SUNSETS (AUSTRALIA)-ANIMAL/UPTIGHT, OUT OF SIGHT (1967 SURF )-Label:BLANK Two completely unreleased, undiscovered, undocumented Sunsets sides! In May 1967 The Sunsets single 'The Hot Generation' b/w 'This Is What It's All About' was issued to co-incide with the release of the Australian surf film of the same name. Both songs were featured in the movie soundtrack. The film was screened, and scheduled for release was another single from The Sunsets, comprising two more songs from the movie. 'Animal' b/w 'Uptight, Out Of Sight' was prepared to be released in August 1967, but one way or the other, it didn't happen. Since then both sides have sat untouched in the Festival label's tape vaults. UNTIL NOW!!!!! 45 RPM $10 SKU:17469

SUZY & LOS QUATTRO- Play On( Combining the best of 60s pop and 70s punk)-Label:WILD PUNK Hailing from Barcelona, Suzy & Los Quattro have become one of the most active crunchy pop bands of the last 5 years, counting endless tours all over the world and receiving enormous praise from RnR celebrities such as Andy Shernoff, Ben Weasel, Lindsay Hutton, Steve Soto and too many others to mention. Combining the best of 60s pop, 70s punkrock and 80s new wave and being total suckers of the triad Blondie + Beach Boys + Ramones, it was pure logic that San Franciscos The Rubinoos would be one of their favorite bands ever. The Rubinoos have earned a legendary status among the powerpop crowd world-wide, with hits like "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend", "Hurts Too Much" or "Arcade Queen". During early 2009 both bands toured together in Spain and declared each other mutual admiration. Los Angeles pop genius Robbie Rist happened to be playing drums for Suzy & Los Quattro on this tour and being the bands producer , when the tour was over studio time was booked to see what would come out of mixing both bands in the recording booth.
The result, a fantastic 7" with a Raspberries track on the A side (Play On) and The Sweets classic (Fox On The Run) on the B side. Yummy artwork, great performances and arrangements directed by Robbie Rist and two classic songs reinterpreted by the legend and the future of kick ass bubblegum pop music. 45 RPM $8 SKU:18779

HASHISH -A Product of Hashish- LTD ED OF 499 PSYCH -Label:SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN) LP version in deluxe silver foil sleeve. Limited edition of 499. Includes poster. The long-awaited debut album from Hashish. Top-class psychedelia, taking the genre to a new level with a sophisticated approach to Afro-funk grooves accompanied by dreamy, playful melodies that range through a spectrum of Scandinavian occult psychedelia, minimal synth, surreal electronic soul disco, and rare groove. Some have described Hashish as a project that picks up what Goat started. Welcome to tomorrow. The sounds transport the listener into a forgotten world where the future looks different from what it became. On his soft, subtle island capped with clouds of cool fire, Pan weaves his teachings with the wind and the sun, raining sacred melodies on the hearts and minds of humanity and bestowing desperate loves and yearnings with songs of sainthood and madness. Transient temples of the flesh, laughing at death, clothe our lives in fire. On rippling altars of skin we sensual magicians worship bright burning desire. Upon release the album sky rocketed straight into #1 on the official Swedish vinyl chart. LP $22 SKU:17696

HEAT EXCHANGE- Reminiscence(70S HARD ROCK/PSYCH) Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) Remastered sound; Insert with detailed liner notes and photos, including an introduction by Rich Sheppard (After The Sabbath). Formed in Toronto, Canada, in the late '60s, Heat Exchange are known for their three fantastic 45s for the Yorkville label - released in the early '70s - on which they mixed hard rock with psychedelic, heavy progressive and funk-rock sounds. So, it's a major surprise that in 1972, the band recorded more stuff with the intention of releasing an album. But in the end, the album deal fell through and only four of those tracks were released as part of their 45s. Soon after, the band disbanded. Luckily, the band members have kept a copy of the master tape all these years. So, presented here for the first time ever are the complete Heat Exchange studio recordings, including their three 45s plus the previously unreleased recordings they recorded in 1972 for their never-released LP. Fabulous UK-sounding, heavy progressive, and psychedelic hard rock with top-level musicianship, well-constructed songs, powerful vocals, sax, flute, wah-wah, organ, and a solid rhythm section. RIYL: King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Samurai (UK), Web's I Spider (1970), Human Beast, Deep Purple. LP $24 SKU:18453

HIGHER STATE - Darker by the Day - (modern psych)- Label:13 O Clock The long-awaited, second full-length album by the UK's The Higher State has finally arrived! A dozen new tracks spanning the group's wide spectrum of sound, from jangly folk punk to fuzzed out, revved up, garage psychedelia. Presented in a nice, 60's-style, tip-on jacket printed by Stoughton Printing, the new album, Darker by the Day, comes well-prepared to move your feet as well as your mind! "Britain has never had it so good when it comes to garage psychedelia; such is the authority of The Higher State." - Lenny Helsing, The Thanes, Shindig Magazine LP $14 SKU:9700

HIGHER STATE - Vol 27 (psych)Label:13 O Clock Their fifth full-length album! In a similar vein to their recent (Consider It) A Debt Repaid single, Volume 27 presents twelve new songs meshing 60's-style garage with jangly folk-punk that timelessly reflect upon the ho-hum world we all face without sounding cliched and trivial. Mastered by Crypt Records head honcho Tim Warren, and with liner notes from Ugly Things Magazine guru Mike Stax, the new album comes pressed on 150 gram vinyl, and housed in nice 60's-style tip-on jackets with lyrics printed inner sleeves along with a digital download code to boot LP $14 SKU:17386

HOLY MACKEREL - ST(1968 trippy west-coast psych/sunshine pop) Label:SHIP TO SHORE At last, here's a vinyl reissue of the sole LP by The Holy Mackerel, originally released by Reprise in 1968. Producer Richard Perry asked frontman Paul Williams to record the album after featuring Williams' song 'Fill Your Heart' (co-written with Biff Rose) on the flip-side of Tiny Tim's hit 'Tip-Toe Thru' The Tulips With Me'. The result was one of the most underrated albums of the era, featuring US west-coast folk-rock, country and sunshine-pop vibes, and flashes of psychedelia as showcased by the trippy, killer cut 'Wildflowers'. LP $22 SKU:19407

HOT KNIVES - ST SPANISH IMPORT (70s pop/power pop, glam, psych)-Label:GOT KINDA LOST Hot Knives were a late period folk-rock / power pop combo from the latter ‘70s San Francisco—and held two ex-Flamin’ Groovies members in their ranks (guitarist Tim Lynch, and drummer Danny Mihm). Led by the hair-rising boy-girl sound from the Houpt siblings (Michael and Debra), and bolstered by the ringing, jangly guitars of Lynch/Houpt, and driving rhythm section of Mihm and bassist Ed Wilson, sparks flew when they united as a whole. This set collects the tracks from their late ‘70s singles, and a further batch of dynamite tracks pressed into wax (seeing vinyl release for the first time). As music journalist Jud Cost (Sundazed Music / Magnet Magazine) says in the extensive liner notes, “…Hot Knives were a little too late for the '60s hippie trip and a little too hippie for the crash'n'burn punk rock brushfire of the mid-'70s,” but their consistent songwriting and way with a hook should appeal to all with a ‘pop heart’ beating in their chest, fans of ’60s SF sounds, and folk-rock.LP $18 SKU:18116

HUBBS, STAN - Crystal (80s stoner rock) Label:COMPANION RECORDS Finally the official vinyl reissue of Stan Hubbs' 1982 Crystal LP is available. 500 faithful repros were made of this confounding slab of stoner rock, each including a replica of the original 16 page booklet. HEAD -ST ( Obscure 60s style psych ) last copies - Label:VOXX Unfairly, this album has always remained obscure, even among Voxx releases. Perhaps this is due to their style, which is freeform and creative, rather than the formulaic approach audiences seem to prefer. With influences ranging from Cream to Led Zep to little-known British bands like July, Head blew a lot of minds in Los Angeles in the early '90s with their light show and extended trip-jams. For their album debut, they chose a different approach: using all the studio tricks at their command to make a finely-crafted collage of sounds designed to flow through a listener's most spaced-out headphone session. But this long album also includes most of their live freakout favorites, and there are frequent moments of sublime ensemble playing. [12/92] Greg Shaw LP $15 SKU:2295

HAUNTED - Blow my Little Mind to Bits -LAST COPIES of great 60s garage-Label:VOXX LAST COPIES One of Canada's most popular homegrown rock groups in the '60s, though they made no inroads to the rest of North America. From the English-speaking community of Montreal, the group was very explicit in their desire to emulate the Rolling Stones, and most of their 1966-1968 singles (as well as their sole LP, from 1967) were in a raunchy R&B/blues-rock style. Their most successful single, "1-2-5," gained fame when it was reissued on one of the first Pebbles compilations of garage singles in the '70s. All of their material was reissued in the '80s. LP $15 SKU:8001

HENRY’S FUNERAL SHOE- Donkey Jacket Ltd ed clear vinyl,Label:Alive A raw, fuzzed-out, garage-boogie attitude and a riff-o-rama sensibility. Their sound can be heavy as a 2000 lb. budgie, menacing as a back-alley swaying drunk, and when they crank up the riffing or let rip with some high-octane slide, it’s as transporting as anything by post-Mississippi Fred McDowell” – PopMatters LP $20 SKU:13352

In the morass of indulgent singer/songwriters and post hippie platitudes, Kim Fowley had a dream: A re-invention of mid '60s energy and ethics adapted for hard rock kids in a way little girls could understand. The Hollywood Stars were born. The great white hope of Rock'n'Roll and the ultimate Teen Band infused with Powerpop hooks, killer Proto Punk riffs with a sprinkling of Glitter and the right attitude. HONEST JOHN - SAILOR (Unreleased underground Texas hard rock from 1975)-Label:SHROOMANGEL (USA) Unreleased underground Texas hard rock from 1975! First release anywhere, anytime! Heavy grooves with dense, layered guitars and Deep Purple/Black Sabbath style vocals from bassist T.J. Sanders. Honest John was a band that meant business at a time when most bands were softening their sound for radio. Not these guys! Honest John did release an extremely rare 7" on the Baron label (BRN45006): slinky track 'Brighter Day' b/w the chunky and hard driving 'Face the Crowd'); but that was all that ever emerged from the sessions until now. It was in fact all the world knew of Honest John, aside from folks blown away by hearing them on tour in Texas playing frat parties, bars, military bases, and sleazy rock clubs in the early 1970's. Honest John's "Sailor" is a living, breathing tribute to Ottis Coleman, who should have long ago been celebrated as a true Texas guitar great. Features Coleman's stellar guitar and engineered by future Mojave Audio honcho and key figure in 1970's rock in Houston, Dusty Wakeman. Coleman and Wakeman both later joined Houston blues rockers Buzz Bone, which featured Dan Mitchell and Tom Moore post-Moving Sidewalks. But it has always been the Honest John sessions that they longed to have released. We at Lion Productions are proud to present the album Honest John wanted to release, at long long last. A small press run of 500x copies, housed in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket, sourced from original master tapes. A definitive statement of heaviness. •Underground Texas hard rock from 1975 •First release anywhere, anytime! •Sourced from original master tapes •Small press run of 500x copies, housed in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket. a link to an mp3 sampler, which has a little taste of every track on the record: LP $22 SKU:19272

JIMSONWEED- INVISIBLEPLAN(HEAVY STONER PSYCH) GREEN DOUBLE Label:SVART Limitededition on DOUBLE GREEN VINYL, presented in a gatefold sleeve. Jimsonweed created a brand of organic heavy stoner metal, with Indian flavoured psychedelic elements, that was original enough to attract local followers, but too unusual to make it internationally. The D-Side features three previously unissued bonus tracks. The album was originally released on CD in 1996. LP $28 SKU:18908

JOINT EFFORT -Final Effort (intriguing folk/rock/psych 1974)-Label:VOID/HALLUCINATIONS RECORDS (USA) With its immediately recognizable M C Escher cover, this intriguing folk/rock/psych release from 1974 is another incredibly rare album enjoying its first legitimate reissue. A Joint Effort's Final Effort was originally recorded and released by Canada's University Of New Brunswick on its Little Records label (Little Records 101); despite its lack of wider recognition, this is generally regarded by those who know as a diverse and eclectic album with a number of outstanding tracks. One pundit described it as 'a weird mix of early CSNY, with shades of Perth County Conspiracy and a dash of early Eagles thrown in.' The first side, with the superb 'Winter' is particularly impressive—largely acoustic hippy folk rock with the occasional electric guitar thrown in for good measure. Side two, however, is an altogether rockier affair with standout tracks 'Greed For Goldand,' an up-tempo fuzzed-out cover of ‘A Horse With No Name’ combining effectively to elevate Final Effort to a different musical plane. Original cover has been reproduced as well as rare original insert. LP $14 SKU:19256

JONNY CHAN AND THE NEW DYNASTY 6- So you WAnt (60s British Invasion style!)Label:DIONYSUS AllMusic Review by Stewart Mason The debut album by Manhattan-based garage rockers Jonny Chan & the New Dynasty 6 is an entertaining blend of British Invasion and garage rock influences. Considerably less noisy and Nuggets-obsessed than most bands on the Dionysus Records roster, Chan and his band (a trio, naturally) take most of their stylistic cues from Beatles, Dave Clark Five, Searchers, Merseybeats, Kinks and Hollies singles. The guitars jangle instead of snarl, and there are occasional attempts at harmonies. The songs are largely about as derivative as the early tracks by their obvious heroes, but originality is not what this style of music is about. (However, the one truly original idea, a cover of the garage rock standard "Little Black Egg" sung in Mandarin, is absolutely inspired.) Anyone who liked the Sire-era Flamin' Groovies albums will find much to enjoy here; Now You Want Action is derivative and insubstantial, but it's undeniably a load of unselfconscious fun. LP $5 SKU:18764

STREET BRATS -YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE( 77 STYLE Glam pop ) pic slv. Label:FULL BREACH KICKS LAST COPIES.The latest from hard-charging Chicago punk favorites the STREET BRATS. TEENAGERS- COMPLICATION/ TAPS (1967 rare beat/garage gem)-Label:FEATHERED APPLE Here's a limited edition 50th anniversary collectors reissue of a rare beat/garage gem from Switzerland, originally datin g back to 1967! The A-side is a killer cut featuring Marco Zappa on lead guitar and with a cool (Vox Continental) organ sound, while the flip contains a fantastic instrumental. Original copies are more or less impossible to find, as only some 300 copies were pressed back in the day! This official reissue comes with superb sound quality (that sounds even slightly better than the original) and with a photo packed 8-page booklet including detailed liner notes. 45 RPM $12 SKU:19281

TERRIBLE TWOS -Radical Tadpoles SPACE ROCK - Label:X RECORDS X! Records continues it's perfect batting average with the "Radical Tadpoles" EP. Still feeling the Piranhas vibe, but a little more space rock than jazz oriented. "Chinky Glass Eye" and "An Image Break" have some downright pretty synth sounds working against it (for it) that'll speak to the Dr.Who or Wendy Carlos nerd in all of you. Like some shortwave radio transmission interfering with yer stereo. Downright operatic in a garbage can prog-punk sort of way. "Nap Time" starts off with some grossly out of tune guitar squelch and fluttery keys that gives way to some epic grand scale madness akin to say, Human Eye. Well, damn....just buy this thing. Pronto. Oh yeah...that's not a locked groove at the end either. A top five single of the year, guarantee. 45 RPM $3 SKU:17366

TWILIGHTERS -NOTHING CAN BRING ME DOWN (60s Texas garage psych monster) -Label:MILKCOW This wonderful reissue comes with a '60s styled company-sleeve and a postcard. Back on 7-inch, here's a brain melting Texas garage psych monster from 1968. 'Nothing Can Bring Me Down' became an instant cult hit when it started appearing on garage punk comps, and Pussy Galore and others bashed out their cover versions. The Twilighters recorded this sole 45 at a club named Mark VII, also the name of the record label. When the guys entered the recording space they only had one original song, the moody garage ballad 'I Need You'. Front man Jay White wrote 'Nothing...' on the spot, since the single also needed a flip. However, the result, a fuzzed up mixture of psych à la Hendrix and Cream, and '60s punk, was so exciting that it became the A-side. 45 RPM $10 SKU:18372
