REMBRANDT RECORDS STORY:- OPEN UP YOUR MIND 1966-67 - PLUS+ 7 - Label:BREAK-A-WAY REMBRANDT Records, a Chicago based Garage and Psychedelic label of the sixties. After the first release by the Nite-Owls failed to chart, Rembrandt Records’ owner Reggie Weiss moved in a different direction. His next release, “Open Up Your Mind” by the Nuchez, merged pop with psychedelic music. The song was based on an LSD trip and response to the single was positive. Soon other psych and psych-pop singles were issued by The Circus, The Nickel Bag, and Monday’s Children. Cash Box magazine began plugging Rembrandt Records during the fall of 1966. By 1967, Weiss was devoting all of his time to promoting a high-school band called The Lemon Drops. He wrote another LSD inspired song titled “I Live In The Springtime” for the band. Unfortunately, the single was unable to chart, even regionally. Over the ensuing decades though, the reputation of The Lemon Drops, The Nuchez, The Nite-Owls and other Rembrandt artists has grown immeasurably. This compilation contains the most important singles sides issued on Rembrandt Records between 1966-1967, plus a number of essential previously unreleased versions that are appearing for the first time ever on vinyl. The fourteen recordings on this album make it apparent that Rembrandt Records was way ahead of its time when these treasures from the psychedelic 60’s were recorded. First 500 copies with 7" Single incl. two unreleased 1967 first time on vinyl recordings by the Nite-Owls. TRACKLISTINGS ON SITE COMP LP $22 SKU:16555

SEARCHING IN THE WILDERNESS - VA ( raw, rare mid-'60s rock, UK ) -Label:MUZIEK EXPRESS While this compilation might prove mighty hard to track down, it's one of the better anthologies of raw, rare mid-'60s rock, concentrating exclusively on bands from the U.K. and Europe (i.e., this is not a "garage" compilation in the classic sense). Some of these groups enjoy a cult reputation, especially the Dutch ones (the Outsiders, Q65, Cuby & the Blizzards, the Motions); most will draw blanks even on the faces of specialist record store owners. Still, if you like the R&B/mod of the Pretty Things or the Who and are looking for stuff in that mode that's less polished, this is a good place to land. The Red Squares' "You Can Be My Baby" is as good as the best London 1966 mod; the Buzz's "You're Holding Me Down" is one of British producer Joe Meek's hardest-rocking sessions; Jimmy Page plays a raunchy session guitar lead on Sean Buckley's "Everybody Knows"; and the Outsiders' "Won't You Listen" is one of the wildest, most unhinged beat/punk performances of all time. There's also a rare and basic unreleased mid-'60s song by the Kinks (who are identified as the "Muswell Ravens" on the cover), "All Aboard." “Richie UnterbergeR COMP CD $12 SKU:332

HIPSVILLE - VOl 2 (60s garage ) - Label:NORTON The second volume in Kramden Records' (an early forerunner of Norton) Hipsville series scores big rockin' points with this collection of what they refer to on the front cover as "16 more delicious mystery appetizers." Split evenly between a "Friday Night side" (party tunes) and a "Saturday Night side" ("no money, no honey, no nothin'"), this musically follows in the footsteps of the debut entry. On the Friday night side, the highlights are plentiful, but heading the list are the Caravans' "3 Musketeers" (that's right, an ode to a candy bar), the Cardinals' "Hatchet Face," Florian Monday & His Mondos' "Rip It Up," "Go Go Ferarri" by the (no relation to the band of the same name that did "Time Won't Let Me") Outsiders. On the Saturday night loser side (also check entry for Shutdown '66 for more prime mid-'60s self-pitying material), the Fearsome Five's "It's Alright," the Revelles' "You Don't Love Me No More" (complete with a jaw-droppingly lame harmonica solo), and the Hermon Knights' "You're Not Mine" are raw genius, loaded to the gills with '60s teenage angst galore. If '60s garage band records chock full of sizzling fuzz guitars, trebly Farfisa combo organs, simple but noisy drumming, and hyperkinetic tambourines to go with the alternately wimpy and sneering lead vocals is your thing, you can't do without this one for the collection. ~ Cub Koda COMP LP $14 SKU:11716

DELMONAS - Do The Uncle Willy ( 150 on Color Wax! All-girl British Garage classic! ) -Label:GET HIP Limited Edition 150 on Color Wax! All-girl British Garage classic! A must-have Pre-Headcoatees release from the Billy Childish saga! The musical influences in Do the Uncle Willy cover a wide span between psychedelia and rockabilly, running from Lesley Gore to Link Wray, with nods to more obscure sources like Ennio Morricone's spaghetti-Western themes, the Zombies, Seeds and the Easybeats (and a very close listen will disclose what might be Cramps and Dead Boys riffs). However, what most characterizes Uncle Willy is that it's a clean synthesis, not a pastiche. Thus, "Jealousy" isn't a Monkees rip-off, though the Monkees might have done a rather fair job with it. "Lie Detector," which the Milkshakes turned into a Lennon anti-tribute, is here played for straight blooze-crunge. Out of print for several years, this Delmonas collection was originally released by Skyclad Records in the mid-80’s and preceeds Thee Headcoatees et al in bringing to the USA the unique and always brilliant raw garage of the Billy Childish saga. Get Hip has rescued this Garage Pop gem and re-releases it with brand new artwork and mastering right at the peak of the new garage movement so the masses of White Stripes fans can get a peak at one of the albums that influenced them in the first place. FLAMIN' GROOVIES - Shake Some Action- 180-GRAM Label:4 MEN WITH BEARDS PRODUCED BY GREG SHAW! Shake Some Action was the fifth released in 1976 by the San Francisco band Flamin’ Groovies. Recorded in Great Britain and produced by Dave Edmunds, Shake Some Action marked a departure for the group from the blues based / garage rock sound of the earlier records to a more power pop / British invasion direction. This was due to the departure of lead singer Roy Loney, the ascendance of guitarist Cyril Jordan, and the fact that the band moved to England in 1972 and was building a large following there. A certified power pop classic brought to you by 4 Men With Beards on 180 gram vinyl. LP $21 SKU:15519

JADE- Faces of (Ltd ed reissue of 1971 power pop sought after collectors item ) -Label:SHAKE IT Reissue of Jades' (Cincinnati, OH) tough-to-find nugget from 1971 - one of the most highly sought-after "Beatles-Impact" records among psych, power-pop and Beatles collectors. Pressed on green wax. Limited to 500. Jade's Faces of Jade album is a tough-to-find Cincinnati-area nugget from 1971. Since being "barely" released on the original Cincinnati-based GAR Label, it has become one of the most highly sought-after "Beatles-Impact" records among psych, power-pop and, of course, Beatles collectors. After a bit of sleuthing, Shake It tracked down the members and are proud to give it a proper and awesome-sounding vinyl reissue of their sole pop-psych / Revolver/Revoler-esque classic. Highly touted on/in Acid Archives, Tyme Machine & more.“This came to me with an 'underrated' tag attached, and I'm inclined to agree. It's late '60s Brit-psych/pop of the McCartney/Roy Wood variety, transplanted to 1970s Cincinnati, serving up plenty of innovation, fun and a fair amount of label money on hand. Opens with a dreamy psych mini-epic that recalls the second Fallen Angels album, the rest holds a middle ground between London '68 and the clever pop that Ohio would become famous for, leaving the listener to decide if this is a late '60s lyte-psych LP or in fact an Anglo-retro '70s trip. Lots of piano, 'Penny Lane' fanfares, high-pitched teen harmonies and unexpected studio tricks. One of the best in the style.” -- Acid Archives LP $18 SKU:16422

LORDS OF THE NEW CHURCH - ST -GOLD VINYL ltd to 500- Label:DRASTIC PLASTIC In 1982, punk legends Stiv Bator (Dead Boys), Brian James (The Damned), Dave Tregunna (Sham 69), and Nick Turner (The Barracudas) formed the supergroup The Lords of the New Church. Their debut, self-titled LP incorporated their punk roots while transitioning into a more polished gothic style with catchy hooks. Along with it came their new image of leather-vested vigilantes with dark lyrics musing from religion to politics. This album helped to usher in a new era of post-punk rock in the early ‘80s and Drastic Plastic Records is thrilled to present it sounding better than ever. LP $29 SKU:16207

Like the insect that gave them their name, the Dutch group Mayfly existed for just a short while before disappearing. In their brief lifespan, though, they recorded one truly magical and timeless album, along with a handful of singles, all beautifully crafted and imbued with beguiling atmospheres and melodies. Formed in the late 60s in the northern coastal town of Bergen, Mayfly recorded their self-titled album for Ariola in 1973, working with Wally Taxs producer Martin Duiser. This reissue features two bonus tracks, the non-LP single Skew-eyed Jimmy and the alternate 45 version of the groups first single, that jaunty, Ray Davies-inspired Blue Sofa. 4 LP $26 SKU:15561

Fred and Toody Cole of Dead Moon, Pierced Arrows, The Range Rats, The Weeds, The Lollipop Shop and a million other bands along with Rod Rat present a punk rock masterpiece. Stripped down and lo fi. The record has a slight psychedelic edge and some definite roots in early rock and roll. The record that started to define the aesthetic that would later inform what Fred and Toody accomplished with Dead Moon. Nuts and bolts great songwriting on songs such as Teenagers, World war 3, Social Indigestion and more. LP $17 SKU:9259

THOR'S HAMMER - If You Knew -( Icelandic garage legends! 65-67 ) W. printed inner sleeve-Label:UGLY POP Best known to garage enthusiasts for "My Life", their stellar contribution to the second Nuggets box, Thor's Hammer was also responsible for an incredibly scarce 1966 EP that is easily among the toughest records of the era.
