NEW ARRIVALS

ELECTRIC CITIZEN-HIGHER TIME (60s style heavy psych)-Label:RIDING EASY After bursting to the American heavy rock forefront with their 2014 debut album, Sateen, Cincinnati four-piece Electric Citizen are ready for a Higher Time. Their second album for Riding Easy, it is a breakout moment for the band as a whole and for vocalist Laura Dolan, who stands tall in the spotlight throughout "Evil," "Misery Keeper" and the rest of Higher Time, rising to the occasion of a fuller, bigger sound and meeting the memorable riffing of husband/guitarist Ross Dolan head on with already-stuck-in-your-head hooks and a fiery, passionate delivery. Electric Citizen spread their name far and wide on tours with Fu Manchu, Wolfmother, Budos Band and Pentagram for Sateen. Look for them to support Higher Time on the road in North America and Europe throughout 2016 and beyond.

ELECTRIC CITIZEN-SATEEN (60s style heavy psych)RED VINYL Label:RIDING EASY Dark and esoteric style of haunting and unhallowed '60s West Coast rock, and decidedly British-influenced heavy psychedelia. Like records by similarly late 60s/early '70s-possessed anti-modernists Blood Ceremony, Wolf People and Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, over nine tracks Sateen provides a blueprint for long term appreciation. Recorded and produced by fellow Ohioan and local stalwart Brian Olive (The Greenhornes, Soledad Brothers) the album draws on sounds synonymous with the roots of early '70s proto-metal from groups such as Sir Lord Baltimore, Pentagram, Cream and the daemonic spirit of Amon Düül. Not to mention the comparisons it draws with the rock 'n' roll ceremony of forgotten acts like Frumpy and Shocking Blue when held up against the spellbinding light of high priestess Laura Dolan's enigmatic voice and live presence.

HERE LIES MAN -S/T (PSYCH FUZZ)Label:RIDING EASY What if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat? In short, that's the underlying vibe to the self-titled debut by Here Lies Man. The L.A. based quintet is founded and conceptualized by Marcos Garcia of Antibalas, bringing his erudite experience of West African rhythms and music to the more riff-based foundations of heavy rock. The results are an incredibly catchy and refreshing twist on classic forms, without sounding forced and trite like some sort of mash-up attempt. Here Lies Man merges and expands musical traditions organically, utilizing the talents of drummer Geoff Mann (son of jazz musician Herbie Mann) and a host of skilled musicians to make Garcia's vision a reality. This brilliant, hazy, psychedelic, hook-laden 8-song masterwork

Monolord is for more than just doom-metal fanatics - this is an epic record for all fans of guitar driven rock and roll, stoner rock, and heavy riffs. Check out the title song Empress Rising. The song is a 12 minute long opus that will leave you wanting more. SALEM'S POT-PRONOUNCE THIS- DOUBLE GATEFOLD Label:RIDING EASY “Don’t try to fight it,” the band’s motto implores, “Salem’s Pot has come to destroy your mind.” It’s the same kind of winking tease employed by low budget horror films of the 70s-80s that essentially dared audiences to experience what they knew they wanted, but couldn’t possibly expect.

SALEM’S POT- SWEEDEN(STONER PSYCH)Label:RIDING EASY Hazed-out doomadelic trip through your consciousness LP $20 SKU:18831

SALEM’S POT- LURAR UT DIG (STONER PSYCH)Label:RIDING EASY Mired in drug-derived riffing and classic horror/exploitation ambience, Swedish four-piece Salem’s Pot have plenty of scummer groove in common with Electric Wizard on their debut, …Lurar ut dig på prärien, but if worshiping at the altar of Sabbath and drawn-out fuzz was a crime, we’d all have been put to death years ago. Their reverential depravity comes through in the three extended tracks, “Creep Purple” (14:28), “Dr. Death” (9:52) and “Nothing Hill” (9:12), and the album unfolds in a haze of degenerate psychedelia.

SALEM’S POT- WATCH ME KILL YOU- Label:RIDING EASY Limited reissue of the 2013 two-track 12" from Sweden's doom mongers. LP $20 SKU:18833

WELL, THE -SAMSARA (STONER PSYCH)-Label:RIDING EASY Tnspired by early ‘70s psych and proto-metal, The Well have created a sound that reflects doom, punk and horror all rolled together in a ghostly rock soundtrack. Their full-length debut, ‘Samsara’, is their strongest collection of songs to date. Produced by Mark Deutrom and released through Riding Easy Records, the masterwork is a stripped down, electric blues fuzzfest and begs to be heard live. After a steady touring schedule that’s seen the band share the stage with international acts such as: Kadavar, Orchid, Fu Manchu, High On Fire, NAAM, Orange Goblin, Pentagram and Dead Meadow guarantees The Well are street-tough contenders. “Writing dark, ominous music is how I deal with life,” admits Ian. “When we play live it’s like expelling the demons.” At a time when rock music is fading among the masses, The Well inject an intoxicating dose of raw adrenaline into a fatigued genre. Their nostalgic reverence, simple structure and modern expression put them at the forefront of today’s heavy rock

SOUL EXPLOSIVES-Tryin' To Get Down-(rare 70s Texas funk)Label:BIG CROWN "Big Crown Records is proud to present a reissue of the highly sought-after, very rare, and only release by Texas funk band, The Soul Explosives. Active in 1971 and 72, The Soul Explosives were a high school group from Kingsville, TX led by high school senior Skip Frazier. Their main goal was to play a neighborhood known as the 'The Cut' in nearby Corpus Christi, where there were a number of Soul & R&B clubs. They paid for the recording and pressing of the 45 which was done by a tiny local Tejano studio/label, Bormeh. Copies of the record were given to friends and sold at shows. In '72 Skip decided to leave the group to pursue his college studies and they disbanded not long after. The A Side 'Tryin To Get Down' is a lo-fi funk gem with all the makings of an underground classic. Driving drums and blown out vocals somewhere between encouraging and liberating are sure to peak funk fans ears. The B Side, an absolutely smashing cover of 'Ain't No Sunshine', is nothing short of a must have. The Soul Explosives nearly instrumental cover might just be the toughest version on a 45. Another Big Crown sureshot." 45 RPM $12 SKU:17825

ANDERSON,THOMAS - Moon Goin' Down(great melodic pop)PRE ALIVE LABEL - LAST COPIES Label:MARILYN "Thomas Anderson is clearly the greatest unknown songwriter on the planet." -- The Village Voice. Hailing from Oklahoma and raised on a diet of Jimmy Webb and Woody Guthrie music, Thomas Anderson's records have been described as fitting with the likes of Elliott Smith or Mary Lou Lord. "Moon Going Down" was released in 1998 and unfortunately fell through the rock'n'roll cracks. Anderson's music writings have also been published in such magazines as Trouser Press, the Bob, Musician, Rolling Stone and Creem. "When I started doing this, I wanted to establish up front that my allegiance was with rock 'n' roll and not singer/songwriters. God love 'em, but a lot of them are telling the same stories about dusty roads, country back porches, and missing you. Here I am singing about Martians. That's my thing. There are other stories to tell, and I want to be the one to tell them." - Thomas Anderson CD $5 SKU:2363

BEST ARIZONA GARAGE BANDS 1967- 1970- VA W 20 page booklet -Label:HDM RECORDS In addition to music that captures a moment in time, the release features a 20 page booklet filled with the story of each of the groups included here along with period photography, show flyers and more. The Arizona music scene during the sixties can easily be likened to its desert surroundings: The monotony of average and sometimes even good bands writing less than good and even average songs. Then one day you hear a band that knocks you out. Those are the kinds of bands that I had the opportunity to discover and produce that suddenly emerged out of garages and other little holes in walls ? wherever they could find a place to converge and create their music. I now have the honor and the privilege to present to you the bands that I think are Arizona's best garage bands from 1967 to 1970.' -- Hadley Murrell. "At an age when most of us were just listening to music, Hadley Murrell got involved. At 14 he started playing drums with The Carnations, and went on to work in radio, as well promoting shows and other live events. Much of what he made went towards studio time to produce the music heard in this collection. Often garage rock is under produced to its detriment. That's not the case here, Murrell recorded at Phoenix's Audio Records, other clients included Dwayne Eddy, Dyke & The Blazers and Waylon Jennings (among many others). And unlike many garage rock sides ? Hadley took his performers into the studio prepared and ready to lay down tracks as hot as the Arizona desert. In addition to music that captures a moment in time, the release features a 20 page booklet filled with the story of each of the groups included here along with period photography, show flyers and more." CEASE AND DESIST-DIY! Cult Classics from the Post-Punk Era SALE Label:OPTIMO MUSIC (UK) IY! Cult Classics from the Post-Punk Era (1978-1982) collects 15 UK 7" singles recorded between 1978 and 1982, compiled by JD Twitch to showcase the DIY spirit of those times. "If Punk was the nuclear detonation, the fallout that came after was where a lot of the most interesting music of that era was made. People who would never have thought to release a record before realised it was something they could do, and the end result was a DIY explosion. I've always loved music that doesn't try to fit in a particular genre, that is anti-canonical and doesn't care what else is going on in music at that time, that takes risks and is full of imagination and ideas that may or may not make any logical sense but that resulted in something unique, that ignores conventions about how a record SHOULD be produced and that was created simply because its creators felt the urge to express themselves and share the results with some other people. This compilation compiles 15 tracks that fulfil all those criteria. None of them had any success, most are (unjustly) obscure but every one of them has inspired me and would be in my ultimate 7" singles box" --JD Twitch. This release has been a real labor of love, involving tracing long-lost artists to far-flung corners of the globe, persuading them that the modern world needs to hear the music they made several decades ago, tracking down masters -- lovingly restoring 7"s in place of lost masters in some cases -- and conceiving an elaborate package with detailed sleeve notes to house the double album. Unfortunately, the original choice of title for this release infringed on the copyright of a series of well-known pop compilations released by a certain major label. They sent a cease and desist letter (hence the title of this edition), and did not accept proposed modifications to the original sleeves, so this edition is released in a more conventional package than was intended. Gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves containing sleeve notes and detailed overviews of each individual track by JD Twitch and an introduction by New York's DIY expert Dan Selzer. Includes tracks by Tesco Bombers, Sara Goes Pop, People in Motion, Nancy Sesay & the Melodaires, The Distributors, Dorothy, Thomas Leer, Visitors, The Murphy Federation, The Cro-Tones, Fatal Microbes, Spunky Onions, The Fakes, and The Prats. SONICS- Boom (60’s garage)GATEFOLD Label:NORTON The Sonics' second album is every bit as explosive and influential as their debut outing, loaded with gritty Northwest rock & roll. Sandwiched in between the abrasive classics of "Cinderella" and "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" (with the Wailers on backing vocals), the funk sass of "The Hustler" and "Shot Down," the demonic "He's Waitin'," and the sledgehammer, inside-out version of "Louie, Louie" (only three chords to play and they don't even play 'em) are the band's straight-ahead takes on old R&B chestnuts like "Skinny Minnie," "Let the Good Times Roll," "Don't You Just Know It," "Since I Fell for You," "Hitch Hike," and a nice barn-burning version of "Jenny Jenny." Where the Wailers cut down the trees and paved the highway, the Sonics were the first group from their neck of the woods to take that music somewhere wilder than their original inspirations. The second chapter of Northwest rock & roll after you absorb the Wailers' Golden Crest sides. -allmusic.com LP $17 SKU:18365

SS-20 -- Dream Life. (rare Voxx 60s style psych ) LAST 3 COPIES - Label:VOXX rare early BOMP release nearly out out print,Put together Bruce Wagner, an amazingly nuanced guitarist terminally influenced by '60s psychedelic rock, with Madeline Ridley, a goth queen who prayed to Jim Morrison and Syd Barrett almost as often as she slit her own wrists, throw in ace drummer David Winogrond (Skooshny, Davie Allen, Sylvia Juncosa) and ace producer Gary Stern, add astonishing cover versions of "My Eyes Have Seen You" (Doors), "Penetration" (Stooges) and a brach of vampiric originals, and you have this sleeping gem of an album. Fantastic instrumental improvisation nailed to a mesmerizingly gloomy vocal presence makes for an album that, if you haven't heard it, you really should be asking yourself why... [6/86] Greg Shaw Voxx caught the rebounding Sky on a four-song 1986 7-inch shared with soothing/scathing psych punks SS-20, whom the aging guru had first augmented/sabotaged (according to one's point of view) onstage during his unexpected resurgence in Hollywood in the early '80s, when he would climb up unannounced to join every single band of the then-popular garage contingent spearheaded by Greg Shaw's Voxx label and Cavern Club. Originally a kick, it quickly became a drag to the young Beatle-booted hipsters, and a band called Purple Electricity was cooked up as a stake through Sky's hollow heart. Featuring the McDonald brothers from Redd Kross and Primate Brian Corrigan on drums, the intent was to daze and confuse Mr. Saxon, as well as any sycophants still blindly following. Drawing heavily from familiar '70s metal tunes, the blatantly unrehearsed music of the March '86 show documented on Private Party is matched with a disconnected and distracted Sky, recorded in glorious walkmanorama. Just to cap off this travesty, all of the songs — including indisputable covers — are credited to SS Saxon. LP $18 SKU:2299

STUD-Private 1975 Texas hard rock ultra-rarity Holy Grail )Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) LP version. Private hard rock ultra-rarity from Texas exhumed for the first time. With only 200 copies released in 1975, the Stud album has become a holy grail for collectors. A mystery for many years (all the band members used pseudonyms on the album credits), the band seemed impossible to track down... until now. Formed in 1974 in Houston, Stud featured the killer lead guitar of 17-year-old genius Tim Williams, the brutal Rickenbacker bass attacks of Paul Eakin, and the solid-as-a-rock drumming of George Lasher. The chemistry was born when they first starting played together, and after many rehearsals they decided they were ready to record their first album. So they entered the Barons Studios in Rosenberg, and Stud was the result. Powerful hard rock ("A Woman Like You" and "Jim/Blues"), killer boogie-rock ("Captain Boogie"), hard psychedelic jams (the 13 minutes of "Stud"), and progressive hard rock on the impressive "The War Song." File next to Morly Grey and Incredible Hog. Remastered sound. Color insert with lots of previously unseen photos and liner notes by Paul Eakin telling the band's story for the first time.
