RAMONES- IT’S ALIVE- 2 LPS ON ONE CD - PROMO COPY Label:WARNER ARCHIVES NOTE: UNSEALED but mint disc , Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP Never released in the United States, this 1979 live recording captures the Ramones in their Gabba-Gabba Hey-day. When the Ramones left the confines of CBGB's in 1976--where they had developed their earmark three-chord speed delivery--and took the show on the road to England, they set the punk-rock juggernaut rolling. It can't be stressed enough how influential these boys from Forest Hills, Queens, were on Britain's emerging punk-rock scene, but a few seconds into It's Alive and it's easy to tell why. It's Alive captures the phenomena of the Ramones at their peak and in their element: live and sweaty.

ULTRA CHICKS - VOL 2 lolita (60s French pop)Label:MATRIX French-language, female-sung '60s pop and rock on this 24-track collection, subtitled "Lolita Ya-Ya!" Not a name here that'll be familiar to anyone except the French and hard-bitten collectors of the ye-ye style, although there's a novelty song by actress Anna Karina (Serge Gainsbourg's knowingly ludicrous "Roller Girl," which despite the title is in French). You might also recognize the name Gillian Hills, the British actress who starred in Beat Girl, and who offers one of the best songs, a pretty bluesy, menacing item called "Maintenant Il Telephone." Much of this sounds caught between lightweight early-'60s twist music, continental European pop, and mid-'60s mod rock (there's some pretty scorching guitar and organ), performed by one-named singers such as Dani, Ariane, Aline, Elsa, Clothilde, Cleo, Eileen, and Joanna. COOL AID BENEFIT ALBUM - DBL LP (gatefold/hand-numbered to 1,000) PLUS DVD Label:REGENERATOR Limited deluxe double-LP (gatefold/hand-numbered to 1,000) release on Light In The Attic /At the end of the 1960’s, there was a house in Vancouver that was a home solely for Hippies and homeless youth; it was known to locals as “the Cool Aid House.” When the Canadian government withdrew funding in 1970, the house was in danger of closing. All of the top bands in the Vancouver area offered to record songs for a benefit album—and since the local music scene produced some of the best bands in Canada, the album that resulted was stunning; it has long been a much sought-after collector’s item. What no one knew until recently was that the original “Cool Aid Benefit Album” was intended as a two-record set: contractual problems with Capitol Records forced Cool Aid House founder John Walsch to drop tracks by Mother Tucker’s Yellow Duck—tracks that are now restored to this package. Other cuts include the strange proto-electronic burbles of Mock Duck (quite unlike almost everything else they ever recorded) on ‘As the Bullet Enters Anton’ and ‘Pointillistic Scherzo’; the vicious snarl of Black Snake’s ‘Carousel,’ and the strange Spalding Grey-ish acoustic song/poem ‘The Planet Man.’ Hydro Electric Street Car have left little behind them, but their lovely ‘High Memory’ sounds like a lost Grateful Dead track from their early, dreamy period. A terrific discovery! The end result of the joint efforts of Light in the Attic and Lion Productions is this deluxe 2xLP package, jam-packed with stand-out music by Vancouver’s top bands of the day: Mother Tucker’s Yellow Duck, Papa Bear’s Medicine Show, Mock Duck, Hydro Electric Streetcar, Route Nine, Blacksnake Blues Band, Nancy, Spring, and Greydon Moore and Leo Jung. Obscure cuts available nowhere else, in a wide variety of styles: weird electronic sounds, heavy garage fuzz guitar freakouts, stoner rock, and acoustic folk. COMP LP $15 SKU:14586

The very first recordings by The Bleu Forest took place after the group had played a show at the Hey You Coffeehouse in Ventura, CA. Jimmie Haskell invited the psych/acid-rockers to come to Hollywood and record on the spot at his place. His intention was to capture how the band sounded live, and that is exactly what 'Ichiban' does, thanks to the band members in fine form, two mics, a recording machine, and lots of spontaneity and raw energy with no retakes. It's a time-capsule direct from Jimmie's place in August, 1967. Limited to 500 copies. LP $12 SKU:19491

DASZU-Zone of Swans/Lucid Actual + 1/2 Dativa(underground post-punk 79-83)- SAALE Label:LION with 8 page insert booklet. Unlike earlier Daszu music, Lucid Actual 2000 was digitally constructed and edited from recordings and generated loops for use in live interactive 3D performances: many of them were performed at a Digital Electronics Festival in Montreal in 1999. The introduction of a visual element into the mathematical minimalist world of Daszu composer Mark Rudolph allowed for a more ambient, repetitive, suggestive—and danceable—style.
These pieces were composed by Daszu creative mastermind Mark Rudolph via listening to combinatoric loops with an occasional long melody or vocal line spinning over time. Their style is described by Rudolph as 'hypno'—"an attempt to free the mind from its material neighborhood and make possible a better future based on mutual respect and kindness, despite the fact that our home is not here in life." It is life-affirming, energetic music—particularly the *Enticement sequence of 'Butterfly Close to Me,' 'Kanushnaya Sweet,' 'Oo Eh' and its inverse 'Hey Suni'—music for a joyous club life that may or may not exist or have ever existed—or which perhaps may be encouraged into existence by experiencing this music. LP $18 SKU:22093

FLUX-ST (1973 monsterpiece King Crimson style) GATEFOLD Label:SEELIE COURT Searing art rock monsterpiece dominated by a relentlessly coruscating lead guitar sonic attack as if played by a demonically possessed John McLaughlin. Flux is ex-Babe Ruth, ex-Motiffe, with lead guitar by John Grimaldi before he joined Argent and worked on their prog masterpiece 'Circus'. This LP is taken from a mono mastertape recorded on a BBC Mobile Unit at a live gig in 1973. A shocked Record Mirror journalist witnessed the concert and described it in a published Record Mirror review as 'a new form of music'. Sound quality is great and this is a band in top form playing exactly what they want, in a zone a bit like King Crimson's 'Red', but with insane guitar leads that bludgeon the listener to death. The vocalist later joined Italian prog rockers Flea On The Honey. Play this with a hangover and you will die in screaming agony. One very short track, and four very long ones. The gig ended with an IRA bomb scare. Yes really. LP $22 SKU:24151

FOX- For Fox Sake (1970 UK PSYCH ZOMBIES STYLE)- SAALELabel:SOMMER Originally released in 1970 but sounding more akin to ‘67-68, “For Fox Sake” is a superb example of UK psych, highly recommended if you’re into APPLE, KOOBAS, ZOMBIES, OCTOPUS, SKIP BIFFERTY, SPENCER DAVIS GROUP, RUBBLES. First ever vinyl reissue with original UK artwork. Remastered sound and insert with photos / memorabilia plus liner notes by band member Steve Brayne. Formed in Brighton in 1968 with roots to the mod-soul scene, The Fox consisted of Steve (Stephen) Brayne on lead guitar & vocals, Winston Weatherill (ex-Gary Farr & The T-Bones) on lead guitar & sitar, Alex Lane on keyboards & vocals, Tim Reeves on drums and Dave Windross on bass. During their brief existence they supported The Herd and opened for David Bowie. Their sound was loud and righteous with great vocal harmonies, tight rhythm section and wonderful keyboard /guitar solos. After getting signed to a London management, they recorded their only LP in one session and they had it released in the UK on the Fontana label and on the USA on Crewe, featuring a different cover. Sadly, the band broke up following year and since the inclusion of “Butterfly” in one of the Rubbles comps several decades later, they've become a cult group among psych collectors LP $18 SKU:22891

KRYNG-GOING NOWHERE(garage punk/power pop)SAALELabel:TEEN SOUND With a mix of garage-punk, echoes of Nederbeat and power pop these three Dutch guys deliver an instant underground garage classic. 'Going Nowhere' is an awesome LP by a trio featuring members of highly regarded combo's s.a. The Keefmen, The Kik, Mark & The Spies and The No-Goods. The songs are firmly rooted in '60s garage-rock, but you may also discover distant echoes of late '70s punk rock and '90s grunge. Limited to 300 copies, so order fast! LP $17 SKU:24535

PRINTS OF DARKNESS - Zindabad (60s Pakistan, reviewed by Mike Stax - Label:RAVI RECORDS Raw, exciting and really quite excellent... fans of fuzz will find a feast of it on this set. The Prints turn in enjoyable readings of ‘Summertime,’ ‘Morning Dew,’ and Country Joe & the Fish’s ‘Rock and Soul Music,’ but it’s their original numbers that really stand out… The band’s bottled-up creative energy comes bursting to a head on the culminating number, ‘Oh Color the Shadowy Distance,’ which starts out as an über-dramatic Doors-in-the-garage exercise atop a ‘Tobacco Road’-type stomp riff, before levitating into a psychedelic instrumental section that sounds a bit like Jorma Kaukonen jamming with the Velvet Underground. Thrilling stuff.” —Mike Stax (Ugly Things)
This is the story of a sixties garage band… only this one was based in Lahore, West Pakistan, where there was a small American community and a funky school in an old British Raj-era bungalow. September 1967: Skip Boyce had a drum kit assembled from various shops in Penang during a family vacation and Danny Carr had a Framus bass and a huge amp. Let’s start a band! New kid Steve Davy provided the missing link. Add his psychedelic Hofner guitar and small amp and the Great Flower Famine was born. “Let’s just play songs with three chords (‘Gloria,’ ‘Louie Louie’ and ‘For Your Love’ were the first three); more followed: Stones, Animals, Kinks, Doors. Old friend Travis “Smokey” Henderson was in the States, but returned to Lahore and joined as lead guitarist. John Sligh was added as lead singer because he liked the same tunes the others did and looked cool. By the end of the school year, the Famine was a tight unit—the best rock band in West Pakistan. September 1968: a year’s worth of new music, and new influences—Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, the San Francisco groups. Meanwhile, Steve bought a Hofner violin bass like Paul McCartney, Skip returned from the States with a full set of Ludwig drums like Ringo, and a new redheaded kid arrived by the name of Richard Woodbury. His addition and a new name for the band (Prints of Darkness) gave the group a new style. Their repertoire expanded. September 1969: One addition to the personnel—Roberta “Bourbon” Kilgore as vocalist. The Prints started writing their own tunes in earnest. On May 22, 1970, they played their last show and for the first time in three years, the instruments went in different directions afterwards. And so did the Prints. In the band’s final year, several of their shows were recorded using a single open mic and a standard quarter-inch reel-to-reel tape recorder. The best tracks have been cleaned up and compiled for this release on Ravi Records, a label set up by music mail order company Metro Music. The release is a true labor of love, with no corners cut, and no expense spared on the sound restoration, mastering and packaging. The heavy-vinyl LP (180 gram) is housed in a super-deluxe gatefold sleeve modeled on the Stones’ “High Tide and Green Grass,” complete with a lavishly illustrated and annotated booklet. LP $15 SKU:14746

PTARMIGAN - ST (1972 hypnotic stoner style w inserts and photos) Label:LION 2018 ltd ed of 300 copies Hypnotic, mystical, largely instrumental tracks, all based on a complex interplay of recorder, hand drums and acoustic guitar—one of those hidden gems that make life better when you discover them all these years later. Ptarmigan recorded the basic tracks for what would eventually become their only album in 1972. It then took the band’s producer and manager, renowned flautist Paul Horn, more than a year to find a label willing to release such unusual music. Finally, in 1974, Columbia Records released Ptarmigan’s album to critical acclaim, and minimal sales. The music of Ptarmigan is deep and authentic and intimate; it's reflective sounds are well suited to meditating on a landscape, an emotion, a bottle of wine, or maybe while staring at a flickering candle. Sometimes it is free-flowing and jazz-oriented; at other times it has the mystical feel of a shamanistic ceremony, fueled by Eastern-tinged harmonies. But in the end, this album is about the sea: Ptarmigan was, after all, from Vancouver Island, and the musicians were well-versed in the contradictory moods of the surrounding ocean. Rated by many as the best "folk/progressive" and/or "folk/psych" album ever made. As one contemporary review said, this is "music from musicians, for musicians, late-at-night, last joint music." Our Lion Productions reissue comes with a massive fold-out insert which includes lyrics, liner notes from the band, and a multitude of photos and historical mementos.•Rated by many as the best "folk/progressive" and/or "folk/psych" album ever made•From the master tapes •Limited second press of 300x copies •Huge insert comes with lyrics, liner notes from the band, and more LP $16 SKU:16108

REAL EYES-ST + A4 size, leatherette, soft cover 90-page book with drawings and lyrics . SAALE Label:WIZARD Rare local US private pressing from 1981. Described thus by one writer: "Dreamy all over, with progressive folk elements; flat out psychedelic rock in some tracks. Interesting and thoughtful songwriting. A great discovery!!!”; described elsewhere as "sounds running the gamut from soft folk, to psych heavy metal,” and also as "tasty and creative stuff throughout,” by a third scribe…. and this way in Acid Archives:"One of the best 1980s discoveries, this is pretty wild stuff, has a crude garage edge, especially when it gets heavy. The songwriting is pretty interesting and thoughtful, and as private press LPs go, this is distinctive and memorable enough to explain why psych dealers jumped on its bandwagon. A lot of the lyrics are pretty stoned. There is a lot going on here, with enough weird hooks and surprising moments to give any listener a fair amount of kicks. I like side two, especially the closing 'Visions of Obscurity V,' better than side one. In the long run, whether this will be a keeper for any individual listener will probably be determined by the insane 12-minute 'Madman’s Game,' an elaborate epic that encapsulates everything distinctive about this record.” —Acid Archives LP $32 SKU:24383

SANDHY & MANDHY - Para Castukis ( Rare 70s psych ) gatefold jacket - Label:LION Here at last is a chance to discover why people have been willing to pay a very steep price to hear Sandhy & Mandhy, the duo who were not a duo, the band who were not a band, creators of perhaps the rarest and most expensive album from Argentina. To tell the story of Sandhy & Mandhy, we have to go back to 1967, when Alberto Infusino (Sandhy) and Alberto Vanasco (Mandhy) began their musical partnership in the beat band The New Free Men. Like many bands of that time, Los Shaker1s and Los Walkers, for example, the New Free Men played covers of songs by the Zombies, Animals, Kinks, Yardbirds, Doors, and so on, in clubs and at parties. Yet at the same time, Infusino and Vanasco started to play their own compositions, with a national touch to the music. Let’s let Vanasco (Mandhy) take up the story: “ In 1969, we went to talk with Billy Bond, chief of La Pesada del Rock Roll, to ask about the chance to make an album. Bond said that he was not looking for a band, but for a duo who sang songs in Spanish... So, we called some friends to play together, and we called the project Sandhy & Mandhy.” They recorded the album in three hours, with a full band (Farfisa organ, congas, drums, bass, and guitars)‹one take of each song. Instead of a demo, they decided to press an LP: the company (Phonalex) pressed 110 LPs in total, which the band gave out at gigs. Sandhy & Mandhy were one of the first bands in South America bring a rebellious attitude to the music scene‹all this in a period of military repression, when forced haircuts in the streets were a common occurrence. Although they broke new ground, success was not their fate. And so thirty-eight years after the burst of improvisation that was Sandhy & Mandhy, the rest of the world can finally take a taste of their dark, groovy, beat-influenced psychedelia (that fuzz guitar on the excellent Lluvia). At times introspective and acoustic, at others manic and ramshackle in the best way, it1s quite a discovery. Now, on to the presentation‹the highest quality mastering and pressing (done at Acoustech Mastering/RTI in California, the same people who master and press every title that audiophile label Classic Records makes); the resulting LP is housed in a poly-lined sleeve, inside an ultra-heavy 1960's style gatefold jacket, which is housed in a loose-fitting plastic sleeve. Inside the sleeve, you will find an insert with full details on Sandhy & Mandhy, including lyrics in Spanish and English, printed on 100% recycled paper. The LP labels are replicas of the originals. A top of the line pressing all the way. Limited edition of 800 copies. LP $15 SKU:19499

SHOTGUN-Dallasian Rock- 70s blues rock Prev. unrel vintage studio tracks)Label:SHROOMANGEL (USA) A blend of hard hitting riff rock á la early Led Zeppelin and James Gang, with a guitar attack reminiscent of bands like Leafhound or Edgar Broughton Band. Tight, muscular, lean and mean urban blues rock riffage and soaring, soulful vocals, punchy bass and solid drumming make for a memorable set of songs that you won't soon forget. Shotgun had a successful career in and around Dallas, TX between 1974 and 1977, playing the club circuit and recording at the cities best studios. Sadly, nothing ever came of the recording sessions and Shotgun eventually morphed into VIZION, which released an album in 1980 that featured the vocals of Jan Houston. Finally after more than 38 years, Shotgun's long lost studio sessions are presented for the first time ever on LP as they were meant to be heard. The CD versions includes eleven additional bonus tracks. The most amazing thing about these tracks is how they remained on the shelf all these years! •Tight, muscular, lean and mean urban blues rock riffage. •Previously unreleased vintage studio tracks from the 1970's LP $18 SKU:19500

SIDEWINDERS-Cuacha (First-time reissue of this 1987 sleeper rural rock classic)- SALE! Label:LION By the time they recorded Cuacha!, the Sidewinders had almost figured out what kind of band they wanted to be. On some cuts here the Hüsker Dü-goes-West mix of acoustic textures and roaring guitar is almost perfect. 'I Guess It Doesn't Matter' and 'Blood on Our Hands' are punk-pop masterpieces driven by Rich Hopkins' snarling guitars and Dave Slutes' country-inflected but brash singing... The album is worth having for the first released version of 'What She Said,' a song that the band released on three different albums, each time rocking a bit harder and at greater length. The version here is a dark, mournful folk-rock piece." —AllMusic" •First-time reissue of this 1987 sleeper rural rock classic•Insert includes band memories•"The Hüsker Dü-goes-West mix of acoustic textures and roaring guitar is almost perfect.” —AllMusic LP $17 SKU:21229

A BOLHA- Um Passo a Frente ( 60s Brazilian Psych) -Label:LION Brazilian band the Bubbles became the toast of the underground Rio de Janeiro scene, backing Tropicalist singer Gal Costas residence at the Sucata night club in 1970. They won the Best Band of the Festival award at the VII FIC of 1971 (International Festival of Songs), the same year they appeared on Lenos Vida y obra de Johnny McCartney album. After venturing to England to attend the Isle of Wight Festival, they decided to experiment with a heavier sound, more akin to UK bands of that era (Deep Purple, Cream, King Crimson, Humble Pie, with a little Beatles White Album in for good measure) than that of their Brazilian cohorts. A name change to A Bolha later, still loaded with verve and swagger, fueled by drugs, they recorded their first album, which has secured a permanent place as one of the best hard psych rock albums to ever emerge from South America. The LP, Um Passo a frente (A step forward), was released in 1973 by the Continental label, in a gatefold cover which was quite luxurious for the era. This masterpiece, now impossibly hard to find as an original, certainly made a name for A Bolha in the pantheon of 1970s Brazilian rock. But success in the early 1970s was not like it had once been in the old Jovem Guarda or Tropicalist days, when bands had weekly TV shows to help them become well-known nationwide‹and eventually, worldwide. In other words, the meager abilities of Continental to promote the album made it a collectors item, not the fate a band would actively seek for their recordings. Luckily, we at Lion Productions are able to present these recordings to the world all over again, with the additional benefit of a 20-page booklet with band history, photos, and comments on the songs by band leader Renato Ledeira. Includes both sides of the bands infamous hard-rocking 1971 single as bonus tracks. CD $12 SKU:10607

AVE ROCK - ST (70s space psych)Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) ExcellOne of the most mysterious and sought after albums ever recorded by an English artist; Why? because it’s a masterpiece of dark and enigmatic orchestral folk/psych beauty redolent of Billy Nichols, Nick Drake or even er...Peter Sarstedt if you please! But who was Nick Garrie-Hamilton? and why was this 1969 album a France-only release? RevOla is in a position to answer all this. The amazing adventures of the Russian/Scottish Euroboy wandering the hip hotspots of Europe, San Tropez from his parental home in Paris, writing songs with the likes of Francis Lai, having megahits in Spain, recording with Cat Stevens and his band, touring and hanging out with Leonard Cohen—it just goes on, and yes, it is impossibly romantic; but the meat of this all is the album itself: it's equal parts UK baroque-downer pop/folk, and French pop music, a place where Dutronc meets Gainsbourg; bonus tracks include solo acoustic versions of the best tracks from the album, plus Garrie’s rare 1968 psych pop single 'Queen Of Spades’ b/w ‘Close Your Eyes', as well as tracks done for a label which planned to take over the European music business by issuing music only on 8-Track Cartridgesent debut album from one of Argentina’s best groups, which included Daddy Antogna from Orion’s Beethoven; very spacey psychedelic progressive from 1974, featuring the sweet ‘Ausencia’, the moody ‘El absurdo y la melodía’, and the great guitars and organ of ‘Gritos’; the best track might well be the long improvised instrumental ‘Viva Bélgica’; a very good effort, full of shifting rhythms and rich melodies. “Ave Rock were Argentina’s version of a progressive Deep Purple; great guitar driven heavy prog/psych drenched in tons of Hammond organ. Songs are very well developed with some nice mood variations and dynamic arrangements. Although there are some vocals they play a minor role as the album is mostly instrumental. The entire album is pretty trippy and spacey, with tons of guitar, bass, drum and Hammond interplay. In many ways this album reminds me of bands from the Ital-prog genre. Clearly one of the classics of Argentinian rock, and a fantastic record. CD $10 SKU:18952

FREAK SCENE - Psychedelic Psoul ( 60s raga rock ) Label:LION Fresh from his studio experiences with The Deep and the Third Bardo, Rusty Evans decided to create a psychedelic “happening” which would also function as a recording group. He gathered together a few New York musicians, including three members of the Deep (David Bromberg among them), dubbed them the Freak Scene, and began work on the “Psychedelic Psoul” album, which was released in 1967. The intention was to pursue the Indian-Eastern influence in rock—and this raga rock idea is used to great effect on songs like ‘Grok’ and ‘Rose of Smiling Faces’ (sounds like it could have been the sole inspiration for Damon’s “Song of a Gypsy” album). As the only true psychedelic band on Columbia at the time, the Freak Scene got decent exposure. No doubt this number would have been much greater had the band been a touring ensemble, instead of a one-time psychedelic event. The album is gritty, tense, subversive, brittle, and yes, psychedelic. Perfect in its own way. Included as bonus tracks are nine demos from the summer of 1966, some of which would end up in quite a different musical context on The Deep “Psychedelic Moods” and Freak Scene albums. These songs, with their P. F. Sloan/Dylan (or even Sixto Rodriguez) vibe deepen the legacy of edgy, insightful songs from Rusty Evans/Marcus Uzilevsky. Comes with a 16-page booklet which includes a biographical portrait of Marcus, printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. GOLEM - Orion Awakes (70s Kraut psych space rock)Label:ACME/ LION Epic early to mid-1970's instrumental psychedelic space-rock from the Pyramid Records archive, said to be pseudonymous after-hours studio sessions featuring the biggest names on the Krautrock scene at the time; heavy drums, jamming guitars and Hammond organ: in short, and amazing improvised free-form trip of impressive magnitude, on par with the music of Krautrock heavyweights like Neu! and Gila. An adventurous atmosphere throughout, whether the result is hallucinogenic and jazzy ('Jupiter'), the heavy freak and roll of 'The Returning,' with crushing guitars and massive, repetitive almost funky rhythm, or the Jimi Hendrix-inspired 'Godhead Dance.' Booklet essay examines the controversy surrounding this and other recordings first made known to the world via Virgin Records' three disc "Unknown Deutschland" series of compilations from the 19901s, including the fact that one "Genius P Orridge" is named as producer of the Golem album. It1s clear enough to all that Genius P Orridge is strangely similar to the name Genesis P Orridge, he of Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV fame. The fact that the other names on the Golem album jacket lead nowhere only adds to the confusion. In any case, a deep and fascinating record, still fresh despite the years... and meant to be played loud. 3A space-rockin' hybrid of Gila and instrumental Hendrix type moves, Golem were another band from the lost Pyramid Records archive. Totally instrumental, and a feast for guitar fans... On first listen Golem comes across as a lost classic of Krautrock without a doubt, with a music that blends everything from Neu! to Novalis, and all crammed full of solos.2 ‹Crack in the Cosmic Egg CD $10 SKU:11999

ICECROSS - ST (73 ICELANDIC PROTO METAL!) SAALE! Label:ROCKADROME This 1973 Icelandic hard rock underground monster has been the target of collectors for at least two decades! Carefully remastered for pristine sound that lays waste to all the bootlegs that have come before. 12-page booklet with liner notes, clippings and photographs. Icecross possess a unique dark sound which reveals influences ranging from Sabbath to Crimson to Blue Oyster Cult and beyond all melded together in such a way to form their distinct Icecross style. Considered proto-metal by many, though they don’t achieve this with a typical smash your face approach. Instead, Icecross unleash some killer inventive guitar sounds by way of Leslie speakers combined with ominous effected bass lines and splendid use of bow to create a perfect dark heavy guitar album. One of the few, if not the only, Icelandic band inspired by Sabbath at that time. Press: "Their album has been legendary among collectors for years. All in all this is an album of overwhelming power with an underlying, uncomfortably penetrating coldness. Obviously one for guitar lovers or those willing to delve into the more obscure history of heavy metal" - Scented Gardens of the Mind CD $14 SKU:17329

IL BALLETTO DI BRONZO - Serio 2222 - W 12 PAGE BOOKLET ( Raw-edged heavy rock JIMMY PAGE STYLE ) -Label:LION Raw-edged heavy rock, fronted by Lino Ajello's powerful electric guitars, channeling the dark, jagged energy of Jimmy Page, Adrian Gurvitz, and Jeff Beck.

Il Balletto di Bronzo absorbed their influences (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds), but moved from there into an inspired, hard-edged musical space; the band's overwhelming power and great melodies make them irresistible.

‘Un posto’ and ‘Neve Calda’ are centered around simple but effective guitar riffs. ‘Eh eh ah ah’ starts like a nice mellow ballad, but gets into a hard blues rock groove. On side two, there's the seven-minute mammoth heavy grind of ‘Incantesimo’ and the colossal ‘Missione Sirio 2222,’ almost ten minutes of droning acid rock with whirling guitars and heavy pounding drums, sandwiched between an acoustic intro and outro. No wonder Nurse With Wound cited Il Balletto di Bronzo as an influence. CD $10 SKU:16072

INFINITY- Collected Works 1969-70 (UK psych legends) Label:lion Legendary UK psych outfit Infinity formed in 1969 from the ashes of “Chocolate Soup” psych faves the Flies and Cymbaline. The mission: to develop a heavy psychedelic/pop sound, and express it through complex original songs. Thanks to some funky Hammond organ, punchy guitars, and the band’s unique harmonies, Infinity were no run of the mill outfit. Upon their return to mainland England from a residency in Jersey, they joined the high-profile NEMS agency, alongside heavy hitters like Pink Floyd, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Soft Machine, and Pretty Things. In late 1969 and early 1970, following support slots with The Searchers and Marmalade, Infinity recorded original material for a proposed album, which was meant to explore “time, space, matter, energy and chicken phal, said in some circles to be so hot in a culinary sense that it's temperature approached infinity,” or so they have said, with tongue-in-cheek, we have to believe. Sadly, they broke up soon after the sessions. The good news is that the band left behind the recordings presented on this disc, which can now be enjoyed in the digital format after the passage of more than four decades! Comes with a 24-page booklet which includes band history, photos, and more, printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. CD $10 SKU:11333

JEM TARGAL-Luckey Guy (1978 SOLO SESSIONS)Label:OBSCURE OXIDE 1978 MEGA RARE PRIVATE PRESS PSYCH ORIG Jem Targal first made his mark as vocalist/bassist/main songwriter for Detroit power-trio legends Third Power (their lone Vanguard album from 1969 still rightfully well-regarded today). After the band split in 1972, a despondent Jem took up home recording, laying down hours of tape on a Teac 4-track machine. Jem selected the best cuts from these solo sessions in 1978 and released “Luckey Guy”—pasting the gatefold covers and handling all sales himself in true DIY fashion. The album never stays still with one style for too long, but rather drifts along with spaced-out guitar (‘Bumble Bee Drive’), tortured, dissonant piano (‘Ring Out The Bells’), culminating in a sparse, apocalyptic tale (‘The Bomb Tune’), with bits of childlike whimsy and Jem’s eerie harmonies woven throughout, not to mention a few musical touches that indicate its mid-1970's vintage. Were we to shamelessly namedrop, we might mention Syd Barrett, Skip Spence, Brian Wilson and Gary Wilson as starting points... But we're above that, for its the first ever appearance on compact disc of this odd and eclectic bit of loner folk/psych. The label tracked down the master-tapes, miraculously still in storage at the original pressing plant, and created a mini-LP sleeve replica of the original album jacket, that includes an insert booklet with liner notes and newly-transcribed lyrics handwritten by Jem himself. Audio digitally transferred, with no added compression or equalisation, from the 1/4" analogue two-track master reels.” CD $12 SKU:26197

JEREMY DORMOUSE - The Toad Recordings (Legendary Canadian hippie psych rarity from 1967-68 w liners & original cover art) -Label:VOID/HALLUCINATIONS (USA) Legendary Canadian psych rarity from 1967-68 — one of the hardest to find collectable albums there is. Dormouse (aka Cris Cuddy) had previously been with a late sixties folk outfit, The Rejects, who also put out an ultra-rare privately-pressed album. He is supported by a range of backing musicians on this incredibly rare privately-pressed album, which was housed in a beautiful silk-screen sleeve. There are interesting interpretations of Dylan's 'Baby Blue' and Bo Diddley's 'Who Do You Love', but the highlights of this superb album are the vocals of Reign Ghosts' Linda Squires on 'High Flying Bird' and Leonard Cohen's ‘Suzanne.’ "While playing with Gullison, vocalist Lynda Squires and bassists David McKay and Nick Corneal, the concept of the Jeremy Dormouse LP arose and led to the living room sessions with Mike Clancy from another rare band, Hyde, engineering while the Waddington/Cragg/Tapscott songs were recorded at the university language lab by Peter Northrop." JULY- Second of July ( Stunning demos by one of the most important psychedelic bands to ever exist ) -Label:ACME/LION •Digipack with 12-page booklet detailing the history of July and their recordings
•Available again on CD after more than a decade By this time, anyone with an interest in psychedelia that stretches beyond the Beatles or maybe Strawberry Alarm Clock (at a pinch), knows who July is. Well, at least they know that a band called July put out a super rare album that is considered by many to be one of the pinnacles of the psychedelic era. There's no way to overstate the excellence of the album, with its eerie sound, Indian-influenced chord sequences, studio trickery (tape loops/phasing), and heavily reverb-laden vocals. But that’s not the story we’re here to tell. Even before that quintessential psychedelic album was made, band leader Tom Newman was experimenting with home recording equipment. In 1967, he installed basic recording facilities in the bedroom of his flat in an old Victorian house in Ealing. There, he and guitarist Peter Cook tried out ideas, coming up with many of the standout songs from the July album. The demos they recorded display the kind of confidence that Newman feels was lacking in the album proper (yes, the ultra- famous psychedelic classic album!) that they recorded in 1968. Let’s go back to the near-beginning of it all, to a flat in a Victorian house in Ealing, and listen in on demos recorded with DIY alacrity by a studio whiz, tracks which will change the face of psychedelia, eventually, after decades of obscurity. LEGENDS, THE- High Towers DBL CD ( 60's psych ) - Label:ARF ARF Featuring their four locally released singles and a promotional-onlyflexi from 1970, the first CD documents the Legends from 1967 to 1973, their most renowned era. But the listening pleasure doesn't end with rare 45 sides like the stompin' freakbeat cover of "Baby Get Your Head Screwed On" from '67 and the quirky wah-wah piano of "High Towers" from '69. CD number one is rounded out by a bevy of previously unreleased material, including seven more power-trio psych-outs from 1969, three pounding hard rockers from 1973 that should have the stoner rock crowd in air-guitar heaven, and even a CD-ROM of a video made by band ally Jerry King Musser in 1972 to promote "Rock and Roll Woman," a regional smash (later licensed to Epic Records) that almost got the Legends on American Bandstand. Some people know 'em as the spawning ground for Dan Hartman of Edgar Winter Free Ride/I Can Dream About You fame. Other people know 'em for their four excellent singles. But until you've heard Arf! Arf! Records' new double-CD High Towers compilation retrospective, you haven't gotten the full perspective on the Legends. From '64 to '73, the Legends were as synonymous with Central Pennsylvania as a Hershey Bar with almonds, and every bit as tasty. They got the audiences dancing with their mix of pop, rock and soul in the mid-'60s, freaked 'em out with heavy psychedelia in the late '60s, then rocked 'em back outta their shells with even harder rock in the early '70s. All phases are documented on High Towers, which traces the rise of the Legends from their garage band roots playing teen hops and fire halls into seasoned rockers blowing the doors off larger venues. Featuring their four locally released singles and a promotional-only flexi from 1970, the first CD documents the Legends from 1967 to 1973, their most renowned era. But the listening pleasure doesn't end with rare 45 sides like the stompin' freakbeat cover of Baby Get Your Head Screwed On from '67 and the quirky wah-wah piano of High Towers from '69. And then there's the second CD, which throws a life preserver to those '60s fanatics who abandon ship when the captain's into psychedelia or hard rock. Fear not, garage fiends, as CD number two completes the Legends' voyage with 26 previously unissued cuts from 1965 and 1966, including a few band originals and teen-fueled renditions of Shakin' All Over, You Really Got Me I Need You, Don't Bring Me Down and even the Shadows of Knight's fuzz ripper, I'm Gonna Make You Mine. Perhaps the coolest garage vault find of all, however, is a pair of cuts by the Donshires (featuring future Legend Joe Caloiero) from 1965, Sad and Blue and Tripeline, which would be lighting up eBay if the songs had ever been pressed on a single. The musical experience is only enhanced by a 24-page booklet lined with pictures, memorabilia and a detailed band history (including interviews with six former members) by Doug Sheppard of Discoveries/Ugly Things. Whether you're into garage, psych, hard rock or even Dan Hartman himself, High Towers is guaranteed to scale the rock and roll heights for you. CD $14 SKU:27010

LEWALLEN BROTHERS- Hitch-Hike! (1964-1968) Byrds, the Beau Brummels, and the ZombiesLabel:COLLECTABLES "The '60s were filled with garage bands that could play up a storm covering other peoples' material, but the Lewallen Brothers made a sound that had the immediacy of those bands and the kind of polish that one associated more with the Byrds, the Beau Brummels, and the Zombies. The fourteen songs on this CD come from sessions dating between November of 1964 and April 1967, and it's like listening to good outtakes by the Beatles or the Roulettes. Some of it was a bit retro in its time ('What More Can I Say,' with its soaring harmonies, chiming rhythm guitars, hot drumming, and memorable hooks, could have competed with the Beatles if only it had been cut in 1964 or 1965, not the spring of 1967), but it all sounds sweet today, and, in terms of the pleasure that it will elicit, is nearly as essential to any collection of '60s rock & roll as any album ever cut by the Byrds or the Zombies. By the mid-1960s, the Lewallen Brothers were opening for musical acts such as the Turtles, the Beau Brummels, and Paul Revere and the Raiders. Ironically, the heavy live schedule impeded them from recording consistently. Music critic Bruce Eder explains "Their impeccable harmony singing, coupled with their considerable instrumental prowess and their tight sound, made them highly desirable both as a warm-up act as well as a backing band.” This collection includes their classic songs from 1964-1968, including ‘Only a Dream,’ a song which led to the band ’s numerous performances on Dick Clark's famed TV show, Happening ’68. Typical Collectables label packaging, including the omnipresent small drill-hole, for this long out of print disc. CD $10 SKU:27049

LITTLE BOY BLUES- In The Woodland Of Weir (60s acid rock)Label:KISMET Their sole album -- made with a revised line-up and originally released in October 1968 -- incorporates jazz, classical and acid-rock influences, and makes its long-overdue return to CD here, complete with all their non-album singles sides. Includes liner notes. Formed in Chicago in 1964, The Little Boy Blues soon became local heroes, opening for The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, Paul Revere & The Raiders, and many others. Having played innumerable live dates and appeared on top TV shows, their sound took a psychedelic turn in 1967. CD $10 SKU:13424

MCKENNA MENDELSON BLUES- ST (bluesy psych demo tapes from 1968) -Label:PACEMAKER Another great album from Canada's legendary Paragon label, a set of super bluesy psych demo tapes from 1968; the band’s album “Stink” was received not just as a great album of electric blues, but as some sort of revelation when it appeared in the second half of 1969. Lead guitarist Mike McKenna spent time ('67-'68) in the Ugly Ducklings, but he had already developed a 'local hero' tag by playing hard electric blues as a member of the legendary Luke and the Apostles. Together, he and Joe Mendelson made arrestingly earthy music, which soon attracted another of Toronto's rock gods of the day, bassist Denny Gerrard from the Paupers, whose legendary talents had served him well on the stage of the Monterey Pop Festival, where his work with the Paupers was (and still is) considered a highlight. The material included on this disc, which was demo material that now the band claim was “bootegged” by the legitimate Paragon label (a little revisionist history, perhaps?), is arguably even more rare and interesting than that on their classic McKenna Mendelson Mainline "Stink" album. CD $10 SKU:16071

OUTCASTS/S.J. & THE CROSSROADS-Route 1966 (60s Texas rock and roll)Label:CICADELIC "The Outcasts (of San Antonio) whose signature song 'I'm In Pittsburgh (And It's Raining)' has been covered by numerous neo-60s bands and is just one of their 12 great recordings on Route 1966, and all of them have been re-mixed from the original four track masters for the first time. These recordings reflect the short-lived era, when the Farfisa or Vox Continental was a mainstay for a rock and roll band from Texas, just before the psychedelic music craze got underway, led by The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators. Also included on this album is S.J & The Crossroads (of Beaumont) with six of their best and rarest tracks from 1966, issued together for the first time on CD." CD $10 SKU:26021

OZ KNOZZ -Ruff Mix+ bonus (PRIVATE PRESS 70S HARD ROCK )Label:PROGAOR 15 First legit reissue of one of the best US private press hard rock/progressive rock albums of the 1970s. Formed in 1969 in Houston, TX, Oz Knozz's original crew included multi-instrumentalists Jack Alford, Bill Massey and Duane Massey. Alford left the group in 1971 and was replaced by drummer Marty Naul, while the next year the trio was joined by guitarist Richard Heath. The band had also a three-man horn section, which was dropped quite fast, although horns remained a part of the band's sound, even on their rare and epochal 1975 private press debut ''Ruff Mix,” released on the band’s own Ozone label.“Ruff Mix” mainly grooves in Hard Rock territory—the second track 'Peanut Butter Yoni' sounds a bit like Judas Priest with a proto-Metal feeling; but the album also has elements of Progressive Rock, Horn Rock and Pomp Rock. Like most bands of the era, the idea was to throw out a few different styles to see if something would stick… the theory being that a major label would hear the private album by chance and sign said band so they could open for Led Zeppelin or Foghat's next US tour… or something like that. What separates Oz Knozz from others is a strong compositional component, the band have plenty of original ideas and muster superb instrumentation. The guitar work ranges from hard and powerful to melodic and bluesy and is supported by some great keyboard, including awe-inspiring organ and synth waves. The three-part 15-minute 'Doodley Squat’ suite features heavy dual keyboard parts, crunchy guitars and expressive vocals; the result is a terrific Hard Prog track with lot of energy. For many, the standout track is the groovy and infectious horn rocker, which sounds as dated as the movement itself and easily could have been from 1969. High energy and impressive songwriting CD $12 SKU:26416

PANDORA -Space Amazon (1970s glam proto punk) -Label:ARF ARF Erik Lindgren's Arf! Arf! Records is known for gathering the most obscure unreleased vintage tapes for historical purposes. (They're also known to have a giggle now and again; a couple of the label's supposedly vintage unreleased tapes are at least suspected to be by modern-day groups recording in note perfect re-creations of period styles.) Though most of the label's vintage tapes are from '60s era New England bands, given Lindgren's proximity and tastes, the 1997 release Space Amazon is actually a bunch of circa 1974 recordings by Pandora, a Cleveland, OH, band. The tapes were produced by Joe Battaglia, drummer for Cleveland metallurgists Granicus, and only the first two, the thumping "Space Amazon" and "Daze of Madness," were ever released, and even then only on a flexi-disc given away by a local magazine. The glammy songs have a heavy, proto-punk edge, as if the group were heavily into the Stooges and the first New York Dolls album, and the theatrical vocals and self-consciously "decadent" lyrics suggest a strong Bowie/T. Rex fixation as well. Fun stuff, no matter when it was recorded. (MUSIC EMPORIUM)proto punk) CD $10 SKU:19193

PSYCHEDELIC MOODS PART 2 - Sunset Love & Inner Sanctum Journey Thru Inner Space)Label:CICADELIC After releasing the “Psychedelic Moods” album, in October of 1966, Mark Barkan envisioned another psychedelic album for his next release. It was to be performed by a Greenwich Village band called “Inner Sanctum”. The theme of the album was to be a psychedelic journey into the various psyches of the mind. The trip started with a journey into the past (The House Of Yesterday) then covered the inner workings of the mind (ID) then the descent into madness (Hydro Pyro) hallucination (Purple Floating) and finally culminating in nirvana (Snow Petals). Unfortunately, Barkan was unable to find a record company willing to lease the masters and so they languished for decades unreleased. Now, at long last the masters for this aborted album are mixed from the original four track tapes and forty plus years later the psychedelic sounds of “Inner Sanctum” are now ready, willing, and able to blow your mind. Sunset Love” was comprised of band members from New Mexico and Texas. In the fall of 1968, thirteen original songs and two covers were recorded for a potential album, but nothing was ever released. “Sunset Love’s” lush harmonies, soaring vocals, superior song writing, and flower power consciousness pervaded their songs with a depth and quality unheard of from most 60s’ bands. While their sound can be compared to such bands as “The Mamas and The Papas”, “The Peanut Butter Conspiracy”, “Spanky and Our Gang”, and “The Love Exchange”, “Sunset Love” had their own inimitable style that transcended a generic stereo-type. Had Sunset Love released their album in the 60’s, there is no doubt it would have been an instant rarity of excellence. The “Sunset Love” tapes are sourced from the original stereo versions and reveal the great harmonies and surrealistic lyrics of an undeservedly overlooked and forgotten band from the late 60’ CD $10 SKU:12399

ROCKADROME - Royal American 20th Century Blues (rare 60s pop psych) - Label:PACEMAKER Recorded in a time when creativity counted for more than commercial appeal, the album was recorded for the eclectic Sound Canada label. It sold poorly, but was rediscovered as part of the revival in interest in psychedelia; the only problem—copies of the original album were incredibly rare (and incredibly expensive!). The album is a mixture of rock, psych (some of the tracks are definitely Beatles influenced), and a touch of blues. The album opens with 'R.A.T.C.B. Teaser', which is used as a theme throughout the album, with a reprise at the end and the main song later on the disc. The first proper song is 'Very Strange,' a nice taste of psych with some fetching guitar-work, followed by the more bluesy 'Thirteen Miles Down' which includes the requisite blues guitar solo. The title track is split in two and done as a rock version and a psyche/pop version, both of which are very good, and 'There You Go Again' has a Byrdsian chime to it coupled with a Dylan-influenced vocal. 'Inside Out, Inside In' is one of the Beatles-y songs, but there is nothing wrong with that if it is done well, which this is. The intro to 'T.O. Town' has evinced comparisons with the Monkees as it is very similar to 'Last Train To Clarksville', but the song itself is a great garage rocker. 'Ain't It A Shame' is a little too close to goodtime pop for my liking, but put against the high quality of the rest of the album this can be forgiven.Studio owner and executive producer Art Snider (who had discovered and first recorded a young Gordon Lightfoot years earlier) was inspired enough by Rockadrome's first sessions to basically give engineer/producer Ray Lawrence free reign to carry the project in whatever direction it might go. Fortunately, it was an era of experimentation, studio clocks could mostly be ignored, (there was a belief that the best stuff was done after dark) and so Rockadrome was given an after-hours slot. All through that fall and winter, the songs were refined, recorded, tossed and replaced. Contemplated. Even the physical process became a strange routine. The guys would need to phone the studio by 5 pm to check that the evening schedule was open, then scramble into their cars east of Toronto & head down the 401. The results show that the band deserve their reputation. Extensively remastered, this is the first legitimate reissue. CD $10 SKU:12227

ROGER & WENDY- Love Rog + Wem (60s US psych folk) deluxe mini-LP sleeve - Label:LION The Roger & Wendy Love Rog & Wem album is a alluring collection of shimmering psych-folk gems, and is the rarest of the duo's records (fetching $900+). A superb artifact from the early 1970s underground psych folk scene, taken from the original master tapes, and using the original sleeve artwork for this deluxe mini-LP sleeve reissue. Booklet has photos, great stories, and five bonus tracks, too! CD $10 SKU:12014

SANDHY & MANDHY - Para Castukis (70s psych w Zombie's like vocals and fuzz guitar) Label:LION The ultimate Argentine rock rarity. Sandhy & Mandhy were among the first in South America to bring a rebellious attitude to their music—all this in a period of military repression, when forced haircuts (and brutality) in the streets were a common occurrence. The simmering, intense ‘La indeferencia los pone mal’ (Indifference Upsets Them), was an important protest song, possibly the first from South America. Every word demonstrates the strong concern that Sandhy & Mandhy felt about the repressions they experienced every day: "Like little birds, we will have to fight/against all who want to change us with stones/why do they have to be so cruel/or is that indifference upsets them/I do not know what they want, to teach us morals/they should clean first their consciences/and then we will talk." In the end, Bond said that Sandhy & Mandhy sounded too much like a band (not a duo), so success was not their fate. But now through the magic of reissues, you can check out their groovy, organ-driven melancholy psych, with Zombies-ish harmony vocals, a little touch of bossa, and other treats (that fuzz guitar on the excellent Os Mutantes-esque 'Lluvia'!). There are artistic ambitions too, with tape edits/inserts very unusual in an album of the era. At times introspective and acoustic, at others manic and ramshackle in the best way, it's quite a discovery. This CD companion to our deluxe LP edition (LION LP-105) has an additional five tracks. The 28-page booklet has the full Sandhy & Mandhy story, plenty of photos, and lyrics in Spanish and English; i CD $10 SKU:13276

SKORNIK,GUY -Pour Pauwels ( 70s psych ) - Label:LION Skornik was a mystic explorer, psychonaut, and gifted musician, who was immersed in the metaphysical revolutions of his time. ST. THOMAS PEPPER SMELTER - Soul & Pepper mini slv replica (Peruvian 60s psych freakbeat )- Label:LION PRODUCTIONS (USA) & REPSYCHLED RECORDS (Peru) The first official reissue of this much-bootlegged classic South American psychedelic freakbeat album, recorded in 1969 by Peruvian band The (St. Thomas) Pepper Smelter. Perhaps the story of the band is not well known, but their achievements were great—and international: editions of their sole LP were produced in Peru, Mexico, Brazil and Ecuador, and 45rpm singles were published in Mexico and Greece. St. Thomas Pepper Smelter was formed by Gerardo Manuel Rojas on vocals and tambourine, Beto Tataje on rhythm guitar and lead guitar, Juan Carlos Barreda on bass and vocals, Carlos Manuel Barreda on drums and backing vocals (all from the famous group Los Shains), and Freddy Macedo on keyboards. Their first single was a cover of ‘Purple Haze’ b/w one of their own compositions, ‘A New Summer.’ The band then began to record their only LP. That album contains twelve tracks—six written by the band, and the other half cover versions. The band's music could be described as freak beat; in many ways, it is a preview of the garage /surf style of Los Shain's, heading towards the heavy psychedelic rock of Gerardo Manuel & El Humo. At the time, St. Thomas Pepper Smelter simply called it “underground music.” Gerardo’s voice is soft in the band’s own songs, and aggressive on the cover tunes; his guitar style oozes fuzz. The foundation of bass and drums by the brothers Barreda is very powerful and strong; and the songs benefit from the layers of keyboard played by Freddy Macedo. This fully licensed, hand-numbered, limited edition CD release comes in a mini-LP sleeve replica of the original album art; it also comes with a replica of an original poster; a replica of an original color photo of the band. More importantly, it includes three previously unreleased bonus tracks exclusive to this edition. Carefully remastered from the original master tapes and released in this limited edition of 400 copies, available exclusively worldwide from Lion Productions. CD $10 SKU:14479

SUN ALSO RISES - ST (Superb 70s Brit acid psych folk) Label:LION Superb sought-after 1970 British acid folk rarity from the Village Thing label. The Sun Also Rises is another case of a folk/psych duo (we’re thinking of Emtidi, whose “Saat” album we have also reissued) who virtually disappeared in the flesh, once they had left behind a small but fascinating recorded legacy. The sole Sun Also Rises album has been reissued (legally and illegally) on several occasions, a testament to continuing interest in the music contained therein. Who were they? They were Graham and Anne Hemingway from Cardiff, described everywhere as a mystical, magical hippie female and male folk duo, who played guitars, dulcimer, glockenspiel, vibes, bells, kazoo, percussion—joined throughout by label-mate John Turner (bowed and finger-picked string bass), and Andy Leggett. Their one and only album is very much in the creative style and delivery of the Incredible String Band, with similarities to the work of their contemporaries Dr. Strangely Strange, COB, Comus, Forest and Tir Na Nog, as well as others of the original freak-folk brigade. The results of their efforts were tripped-out, spellbinding, esoteric folk collages—songs of wizards and dragons, dreams and intentions, love, flickering candlelight, the sweet scent of half-remembered summers, death, jasmine, and suicide. We hope that this album will come as a wonderful surprise for lovers of the Incredible String Band and their ilk, as there were few bands that were able to stray into this much loved and much loathed world of fantasy and folk music, and live to tell the tale. Our Lion Productions edition comes with a 16-page booklet printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy, which contains a small dose of band info, album lyrics, histories of the Village Thing and Saydisc labels by co-founder Gef Lucena, as well as a Village Thing label discography. TIN HOUSE- ST (70s powerhouse rock) w liners, rare photos, insert plus pic slv EP -Label:LION There's a vibe within the grooves of Tin House, which makes it sound fresh even 46 years after its initial release. This relatively obscure power trio from Orlando, Florida were admired and approved of by Johnny and Edgar Winter, and Leslie West was also a fan. Comprising ten juicy tracks and clocking in at 34 minutes, Tin House is a roller-coaster ride through hard and heavy blues rock blasters and gentler twists and turns, all executed with individuality and excellent musicianship. High testosterone levels fuel the frenzy of pile-driving opener 'I Want Your Body,' with its naff lyrics taking a back seat to the full on proto-metal assault. It's a killer track, and not the only one. 'Silver Star,' with the opening line "Ride a crimson horse through the depths of hell," exudes more class than all-out bombast, with hints of Cream and Mountain shining through the darkness. 'Be Good and Be Kind' is another belter, as is ‘Jezebel,' while the semi-acoustic ‘Tomorrow' shows a mellower side, as does the lush string section on majestic closer 'Lady of the Silent Opera. Early-70s American hard rock albums don't get much better than Tin House. Floyd Radford is the star of the show with his tasteful playing, soloing, riffs, textures, and overall tone. Had he not been poached by the Winter brothers, who knows what kind of future Tin House would have had? LD — Classic Rock magazine, March 2017 CD $10 SKU:17823

COME BACK BIRD- ABILINE Texas Teen Scene 1965-67-Label:CICADELIC RECORDS There were vigorous garage band scenes all over the U.S. in the mid-'60s as young musicians, inspired by the British Invasion sounds of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, the Who, and the Kinks, picked up electric guitars and had at it, usually resulting in music that was more about attitude and approximation than it was about originality or skill. Abilene, TX had such a scene, and this fun set collects four of the region’s most popular garage outfits, the Chevelle V, the Livin' End, the Continentals, and the Coachmen. Of course, being Texas, there was also a lot of Buddy Holly bubbling under these bands’ singles, too. Highlights here include the Chevelle V’s 'Come Back Bird' (there are three versions of it collected here, of which the original single version is the best) and their version of the surf classic 'Koko Joe'; the Livin' End's sizzling takes on ‘Roadrunner,' 'All Alone' (essentially 'I’m a Man' with different lyrics), 'My Destination' (a fuzzed out near-cousin to the Beatles' 'Day Tripper'), and the Who-like 'Makin’ Time'; and the Coachmen's reverb-soaked 'Hush Broken Heart'. Nothing here is much different than the garage sounds happening elsewhere in the country at the time, and nothing here rewrote the history of pop and rock, but it’s fun all the same.” —AllMusic review by Steve Leggett COMP CD $10 SKU:24534

DALLAS 66 - ESQUIRES & THE EXOTICS Dallas '66 ( psych-pop gems )w rare radio promos and unreleased materialLabel:CICADELIC Subtitled The Now Sound is Here. "In 1966 Dallas was a Mecca for great bands and two of the best, The Exotics and The Esquires, are included on this album. The Exotics began as a rock and roll band in 1959, but by 1966 were recording psych-pop and folk-rock gems. They released three singles, one of them, 'Come With Me,' reaching the top ten. The Esquires formed in 1965 and recorded four singles, mixing folk-rock with a hard edged sound. The wild 'Come On Come On' and 'Judgment Day' are what make The Esquires legendary today. Dallas '66 contains all seven of The Esquires' original songs and seventeen tracks by The Exotics, including rare radio promos and unreleased material." COMP CD $10 SKU:13444

HISTORY OF TEXAS GARAGE BANDS IN THE 60s-Vol 1 - Sea Ell DOUBLE CD Label:COLLECTIBLES "This two-CD set covers the two year history of Houston-based Sea Ell Records, which recorded some of the better and more interesting garage-punk and psychedelic music to come out of Texas during the years 1966-1968. All seven Sea Ell singles are represented, along with additional tracks by most of the bands (George Washington & the Cherry Stompers, Derby Hatville, and the Coachmen) that recorded for the label, and a few (Satyn's Children, the Smokin' Bananas, and the Wolves) that only cut demos for the company. Despite the fact that at least half of this CD was never intended for public consumption, the music holds up startlingly well. The Wolves don't really fit in with the '60s bands here, sounding too much like an early-'70s blues-rock outfit, and some of the later Derby Hatville tracks are too produced and pop-sounding, closer to Gary Puckett & the Union Gap than to the 13th Floor Elevators, but otherwise this could pass for a Pebbles volume. One precious ultra-obscurity — 'Girl Don't Change Your Mind' by Eddie Cunningham & the Lone Rangers — also shows up. The sound varies wildly, from crisp, professionally recorded source tapes to booming, out-of-balance demo tracks. The second disc consists of demos cut in 1967 and 1966, respectively, by the Smokin' Bananas and the Intruders. The former try very hard to sound like the Beatles (especially on their vocals), while the latter have a more brittle, blues-based sound.” —Bruce Eder, allmusic.com. Small drill hole near bar code. MICHIGAN MAYHEM!- Vol 1 (top notch 60S compilation, featuring garage, psych and hard rock entries)Label:MORE FUN 28 forgotten 60’s Michigan garage gems. For fans of riff-driven, raw garage rock, Michigan Mayhem Vol. 1 is a good place to start. Most of the tracks on this are good and it's a fairly eclectic compilation—from the acid rock of Black Rose to the psych-pop of the Pagens to the to the R&B-influenced garage rock of the Rationals to the countrified homage to beer by the Pleasure Seekers. Not all of the tracks on Michigan Mayhem Vol. 1 work but the range of styles represented here makes this compilation an interesting and essential documentation of the time period. Seance by the Ebb Tide provides an example of the low-budget horror film music that a number garage revival bands focused on several years later. I'm not sure why this was the case—music like this too often just plods along. The last track in this collection What a Way to Die by the Pleasure Seekers is notable because they were an all-female band with a young Suzi Quatro on bass. The song asks her boyfriend not to make her choose between him or beer, which she loves above all, apparently. The title comes from the acknowledgement that beer does not lead to a healthy lifestyle, "I may not make it to 21 but what a way to die" (Hey, remember when alcoholism was funny?) The flip side of this single is much better but not included here. Both sides of the Pleasure Seekers' single are available (with much better sound quality) on the compilation Friday at the Hideout, but that's not to say that Friday at the Hideout is a better compilation than this one. The driving, infectious garage rock on Michigan Mayhem Vol. 1 more than compensates for its occasional inconsistency and less-than-perfect audio quality. As indicated in the title, all of the bands on this compilation came from Michigan, which had thriving scenes of all sorts of music, particularly in Detroit. Perhaps what makes Michigan such a good source of garage rock of the sort on this compilation is that it incorporates eclectic influences while still retaining the inspired amateurism of garage rock. Highly recommended! COMP CD $10 SKU:27046

Open Up Your Mind Up Your Mind - The Psych Pop World of Rembrandt Records 1966-1967- Label:CICADELIC RECORDS Open Up Your Mind covers the first two incredible years of Rembrandt Records, a Chicago based label. The first release in March 1966 was a bluesy garage-band novelty record titled "Boots Are Made For Talkin ". It was a parody of Nancy Sinatras, smash hit at the time, "These Boots Are Made For Walking". When the single failed to chart Rembrandt Records owner Reggie Weiss moved in a different direction, merging pop with psychedelic music, for the next single, "Open Up Your Mind". He wrote the song based on a LSD trip and response to the single was positive. Soon other psych-pop singles were issued featuring The Circus, The Nickel Bag, and Mondays Children. Cash Box magazine began plugging Rembrandt Records during the fall of 1966. However, Weiss was unable to secure solid distribution and could not compete with the larger Chicago based record labels such as Dunwich, USA, and Destination. By 1967, Weiss devoted all of his time promoting a high-school band called The Lemon Drops. He wrote another LSD inspired song titled "I Live In The Springtime" for the band. Unfortunately, the single was unable to chart, even regionally. Over the ensuing decades though, the reputation of The Lemon Drops, The Nuchez, The Nite-Owls and other Rembrandt artists has grown immeasurably. This compilation contains all the singles issued on Rembrandt Records from 1966-1967, plus many previously unreleased versions and mixes that are appearing for the first time ever. The twenty-two recordings on this album make it apparent that Rembrandt Records was way ahead of its time when these treasures from the psychedelic 60s were recorded. COMP CD $12 SKU:12121

REVOLUTION -Teen Time In Corpus Christi (1966 Texas garage) -Label:CICADELIC In 1966, famed lead guitarist Rod Prince (later of Bubble Puppy) re-wrote the 13th Floor Elevators' song 'Tried To Hide' as 'All Night Long' and released it with the Bad Seeds as their third single. They were the number one band at the time in Corpus Christi. Although 'All Night Long' would beat the Elevators' 'Tried To Hide' (on International Artists) to the market, the Bad Seeds disbanded in the summer of 1966 and other renowned Corpus bands would follow in their footsteps, most scoring top ten hits on the way: Four more with the ultra-rare single 'Problem Child' b/w 'Don't Give Up Hope'. The Zakary Thaks with 'Bad Girl' and 'Face To Face'. The Liberty Bell with 'The Nazz Are Blue' and 'For What You Lack'. The Buckle with 'Baroque Rock' on 'I've Got Something On My Mind'. Folk-rock singer Michael backed by The Zakary Thaks on all three of his singles, sounding more like a 1966 era Bob Lind than Bob Lind. And Kubla Khan singing about changin' times in 'Revolution' and pondering whether 'the brown grass will be legalized'. Memorabilia such as top 30 radio surveys, rare photos, news articles from the era, interviews with band members, sixteen page booklet, and twenty-eight tracks (including previously unreleased recordings) combine to make this a trip back to the '60s, when a revolution in sound was happening in Corpus Christi, Texas."
