DEBRIS - STATIC DISPOSAL (70s acid punk ) -Label:ANOPHELES The band were said to be high on acid when they recorded this in Oklahoma in 1975; not surprising then that the result is demented avant-garde proto-punk psychedelia, with modulators and synthesizers, a vibraharp (and more) utilised to good effect; the album is now considered a pivotal mid-70s effort from the American private press underworld, and as such has been hailed in Ugly Things, The Acid Archives, and MOJO (a Jon Savage favorite). And why not? It’s a record which has inspire bands from the Screamers to Nurse With Wound. Debris’ are now seen as one of the most important proto-punk bands of the era, too often snubbed by punk historians who don't want to rewrite their historical templates. This updated second printing features the original album tracks, carefully transferred from the master tapes, plus 40 minutes of unreleased basement recordings from the band's own Subterraneous Static Disposal office in Chickasha, OK in 1975-6. Detailed 28-page booklet has also been updated, and includes extensive notes which detail the band's own first hand experiences. LP edition is a high quality, deluxe, tip-on style heavy jacket sleeve edition of this acid-punk classic, with an additional two sided insert unique to this edition, pressed on black vinyl for the first time since the original pressing in 1976 CD $16 SKU:16775

MADS -En Concierto 1969 ultra ltd mini-LP sleeve CD-Label:LION Limited to only 200x copies!Glossy 20-page bi-lingual booklet with band history and photos. Two bonus tracks come from their sessions at the Stones' studio in London, and are in the same hard-edged vein. The first (and so far only) live recording of a Peruvian rock band from the 1960's, and therefore of incredible importance to lovers of rock from that exciting scene! Those of you who already have our previous Mads/Molesto release might remember the story of the Mads: early television performances in Peru; the chance sea-side encounter with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards that got the Mads the chance to go to England; Stones' manager Marshall Chess giving the Mads recording time in the Rolling Stones' studio and at Jagger's Stargroves castle. They played the Marquee, the Lyceum, the Roundhouse. They jammed with Steve Winwood and Brian Davison (The Nice). They played with Jeff Beck and Carmine Appice. Molesto's guitar player, Alex Ventura, worked in a clothing boutique alongside Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor. But before all the craziness in London, the Mads gave a farewell concert for their fans in Peru, on 18 December 1969, at the Auditorio del Colegio Santa Ursula. The recordings on this disc come from that show. One quick listen makes clear that the Mads demonstrated a lot of Jimi Hendrix Experience influence at this stage of their brief career. Still, it's clear straight away why the Stones were impressed, why Dennis Hopper told them during the intermission of this very concert how great they were (he wanted to hook them up with Phil Spector), and why they are legends of Pervian rock. Heavy, hard, and loud. CD $15 SKU:16782

MICHAEL ANGELO - DBL CD w S/T" (Guinn Sessions) + "Sorcerer's Dream" + "Nuts" -Label:LION Stunning work from Michael Angelo – a little-known singer/songwriter from the Kansas City scene of the late 70s – one with a style that's totally great, but way too off the era's chronological expectations to get much notice at the time! Michael's music has a real late 60s vibe – some of the trippier folk modes of someone like Donovan, but mixed with the more complete songwriting of an artist like Nilsson or some of the hipper LA writers of the late 60s – all recorded in this laidback, understated way – especially for the 70s – with acoustic guitar most strongly in the mix, and a few other light rhythm touches and keyboards. The production's sharper than folk, but not much more so – and the music here is a great reminder that while we can look at the rock and roll timeline, and think that the punk explosion of the mid 70s was changing everything at once – out in the hinterlands there were still folks like Angelo who were dedicated to refining an older craft. The CD features a huge amount of material – the full original self-titled album, more tracks from those sessions, and a full second album recorded around the same time. 32 tracks on 2CDs, with lots of notes too – and titles that include "Field Of Lonely Eyes", "Future", "Journey To Find Who We Are", "Russian Lament", "Nubian Queen", "This Is The Night", "Love Is Too High", "Spirits Of Mercury", and "SOS Titanic CD $15 SKU:16805

DAWN OF PSYCHEDELIA - VA DBL CD - Label:CHERRY RED "'Piper At the Gates of Dawn,' 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,' 'Electric Music for the Mind and Body,' 'The United States of America,' 'Forever Changes,' 'A Child's Guide to Good and Evil,' 'We're Only In It For The Money': just some of the conceptual masterpieces of the psychedelic era. But these monuments didn't suddenly materialise. What of the earlier musical influences that inspired them, what of the art that cleared a path for psychedelia? The Dawn of Psychedelia charts the course of the artistic momentum that had been gathering internationally for decades. Edgard Varèse, the "Father of Electronic Music", the "Matinee Idol of Modernism" and musical guru of Frank Zappa; Aldous Huxley's 'holiday from reality', yearning (as Timothy Leary would) to attain the cosmic conciousness of unity, light and love; the Alice B Toklas Cook Book Recipe for Hashish Fudge; the mysteries of Indian classical music and its introduction in the west (Ravi Shankar, Vilayat Khan, Ali Akbar Khan and his brilliant disciple, Sharan Rani); Sun Ra and the jazz hybrids created by Ken Nordine, Yusef Lateef, Herbie Mann and Gabor Szabo as each sought to break the boundaries of convention; the bewitching, other-worldly music of Sanctus from the Missa Luba, a version of the Latin Mass based on traditional Congolese songs, which establishes the magical atmosphere of Lindsay Anderson's "If...", a film that is a microcosm of the revolutionary 1960s and one of the most important films in cinema history. The culmination of these pure, unadulterated divergent strands created the environment in which psychedelia would so memorably flower. COMP CD $12 SKU:16374

PSYCHEDELIC UNDERGROUND- VOL 14 ( 70s psych prog ) SAALE -Label:Garden of Delights Still plenty of greatness to unearth in the Psychedelic Underground -- just the sort of tripped-out grooves we've really come to love from this well-priced series! Some of the work here is as heavy on jazzy elements as it is psychedelic ones -- making for a great blend that's a bit more organic at times than you might expect -- a world-ranging approach to the styles that really keeps things interesting, and which nicely breaks past simple cliches of psychedelia. Plus, many of the tracks are of European origin, and from the 70s -- and they've got key proggish elements as well, especially on some of the jazzier numbers. Titles include "Summer 79" by Gravestone, "Arctic Ocean" by Pancake, "Back On My Hill" by Faithful Breath, "Ala Dalona" by Emma Myldenberger, "Question" by Joy Unlimited, "Bolero" by Aqua, and "Where Is Your Home Town COMP CD $6 SKU:8718

FRONT PAGE REVIEW- Mystic Soldiers 180 gram fuzzed-out 1968 psychedelic gem, insert with liner notes -Label:GUERRSEN Here's the definitive vinyl edition of this lost album from the late '60s Bosstown scene. Front Page Review rubbed shoulders with bands like Eden's Children, Beacon Street Union and Strawberry Alarm Clock. With legendary producer Alan Lorber behind the controls, they recorded a whole album for MGM which wasn't released at the time. 'Mystic Soldiers' is a prime example of late '60s US psychedelic rock, featuring a young Steve Cataldo (Saint Steven, Nervous Eaters) on vocals and as the main songwriter. All the right ingredients are featured here, like wah-fuzz guitars, organ, phasing and other psychedelic effects. The sound is taken from the master tapes and you get two bonus tracks, a new cover design featuring an unseen band photo, and an insert with detailed liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Got Kinda Lost/Ugly Things), telling the band's story for the first time. LP $26 SKU:16061

IL BALLETTO DI BRONZO - Sirio 2222 ( ltd ed of 1000, color insert ) - Label:LION Raw-edged heavy rock, fronted by Lino Ajello's powerful electric guitars, channeling the dark, jagged energy of Jimmy Page, Adrian Gurvitz, and Jeff Beck. Il Balletto di Bronzo absorbed their influences (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds), but moved from there into an inspired, hard-edged musical space; the band's overwhelming power and great melodies make them irresistible. ‘Un posto’ and ‘Neve Calda’ are centered around simple but effective guitar riffs. ‘Eh eh ah ah’ starts like a nice mellow ballad, but gets into a hard blues rock groove. On side two, there's the seven-minute mammoth heavy grind of ‘Incantesimo’ and the colossal ‘Missione Sirio 2222,’ almost ten minutes of droning acid rock with whirling guitars and heavy pounding drums, sandwiched between an acoustic intro and outro. No wonder Nurse With Wound cited Il Balletto di Bronzo as an influence. LP $21 SKU:16074

JULY- Second of July ( 1968 Stunning demos by one of the most important psychedelic bands to ever exist ) - Label:ACME By this time, anyone with an interest in psychedelia that stretches beyond the Beatles or maybe Strawberry Alarm Clock (at a pinch), knows who July is. Well, at least they know that a band called July put out a super rare album that is considered by many to be one of the pinnacles of the psychedelic era. There's no way to overstate the excellence of the album, with its eerie sound, Indian-influenced chord sequences, studio trickery (tape loops/phasing), and heavily reverb-laden vocals. But that’s not the story we’re here to tell. Even before that quintessential psychedelic album was made, band leader Tom Newman was experimenting with home recording equipment. In 1967, he installed basic recording facilities in the bedroom of his flat in an old Victorian house in Ealing. There, he and guitarist Peter Cook tried out ideas, coming up with many of the standout songs from the July album. The demos they recorded display the kind of confidence that Newman feels was lacking in the album proper (yes, the ultra- famous psychedelic classic album!) that they recorded in 1968. Let’s go back to the near-beginning of it all, to a flat in a Victorian house in Ealing, and listen in on demos recorded with DIY alacrity by a studio whiz, tracks which will change the face of psychedelia, eventually, after decades of obscurity. •Stunning demos by one of the most important psychedelic bands to ever exist LP $29 SKU:16427

LITTLE FREE ROCK- Nirvanating Nervesounds w insert and liners(classic 60s heavy PSYCH rock) - Label:SOMMOR Psychedelic hard-rock featuring the explosive fuzz-wah guitar of Peter Illingworth. Little Free Rock were an underground British power-trio which evolved from heavy-mod-psych band Purple Haze. In 1969, the band released their only album for the Transatlantic label. “Nirvanating Nervesounds” collects previously unreleased sessions for an aborted Little Free Rock second album from 1971, produced by Robert Stigwood, plus tracks from their early incarnation as Purple Haze, taken from an ultra-rare demo acetate from 1969. The ’71 tracks were recorded when the band had just incorporated an African percussionist to their line-up, “Lord” Eric Carboo; also, ex-Killing Floor bass player John Taylor had replaced original member Frank Newbold. This new line-up shines on tracks like the terrific psych-funk sounding “Money On Your Mind”, full of drum breaks and frenzied wah-wah guitar. The 1969 recordings are taken from the only known copy of a demo acetate recorded in 1969, when the band had just changed their name from Purple Haze to Little Free Rock. Featuring some songs which were later re-recorded and included on the Little Free Rock Transatlantic album but appearing here in a superior, raw-sounding form. For many people, the recordings included here are the best thing Little Free Rock ever did and show how their first album should’ve really sounded. Most of these tracks were previously released on CD under the “Time is of no consequence” name but they appear here in a newly remastered, superior sounding form, most noticeable on the acetate tracks (no surface noise here this time!). Remastered sound. Four-page insert with detailed liner notes by Nigel Cross (Shagrat Records) and Klemen Breznikar (It’s Psychedelic Baby) plus rare photos LP $28 SKU:16713

MISSING MONUMENTS- Painted White ( power pop ) w download coupon SAALE - Label:DOUCHEMASTER Starting off with the riffy power-pop jam “Girl of the Nite”, the equation for most of the disc is set: rapid rock rhythms, familiar song structures, huge hooks, and even bigger guitar solos. For a dude that’s been in the game since the very beginning of Goner records, Bankston still sounds like a young punk. His lyrics are about staying out all night, picking up chicks, and rocking hard. MISTY HUSH REVIVAL - Your Heart Is Broken (obscure 60s ) SAALE insert with rare pictures, liners, 180 gram - Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS (SPAIN) First time ever reissue, remastered from 24-bit files, original artwork, insert with rare pictures and liner notes by Jack D. Fleischer.”One of the most obscure US private pressings from the late 60s / early 70s.For many years, The Misty Hush Revival name was only a rumor whispered in collector's circles, with only a handful copies known of the original album. Like The Bach’s or The Index, this is one of those hard to describe albums which seem to live in a world of their own. Despite the late '72 release date, the music here sounds more late 60s than early 70s and the whole album has a cool, lost-in-time atmosphere. The group were in fact a club band from New Jersey but surprisingly all the tracks are originals, no cover versions, and they range from fragile, dreamy pop-psych numbers to raw garage, fuzzed-out jams and teen-beat sounds. As Patrick Lundborg says in Acid Archives: "A cool, atmospheric trip for fans of the tri-state late '60s club sound" First time ever reissue, remastered from 24-bit files, original artwork, insert with rare pictures and liner notes by Jack D. Fleischer.” LP $24 SKU:13922

MOCKERS, LOS - ST (60s Uruguay garage ) 180 gram- Label:VINILISSSIMO (Spain) Maybe if they had come from an English-speaking country, their name would now be among the greats of the '60s. At least, their career would have lasted longer instead of being truncated at their peak. But Los Mockers were from Uruguay and during their short life as a band, they never got beyond Río de la Plata. Their story begins at a high school in Montevideo, where three of the future Mockers were students. Aged 16, they started playing covers of Mexico's Teen Tops, The Shadows and Trini López and soon they were writing their own songs. Their upright bass was borrowed and their Spanish guitar was plugged into a radio they moved from electric guitar and bass, handmade by the guitarist's father, who was a carpenter. The primitive drum kit was finally completed and they even managed to get hold of a rudimentary Hammond organ. At the time they were called Los Encadenados and under that name they recorded their first demos, sung in Spanish. In 1964, the British Invasion shook the world. Los Encadenados also covered some Beatles songs, but they were still searching for their own identity through rougher and less-trodden paths. What really influenced their style were the first Rolling Stones records -- a little more rugged, but with a rebellious energy that electrified the whole band at once. Soon after, they found other sources of inspiration, such as The Animals. It was what they were looking for: the wild force of rhythm and blues. Montevideo got hip in the summer of 1965 and venues like La Cueva opened up, where the band performed often. Most weekends they played at student parties and they also appeared live on TV regularly. The band was growing and writing their first songs in English. It was the moment to take one step forward and choose a new name that reflected the music they were making. The fights between mods and rockers in England gave them the idea: from then on they would be known as Los Mockers. They were 18 and 19 years old. 1966 was the band's most prolific year. Then based in Argentina, after a few months they were playing regularly at venues such as Whisky a Go-Go and on TV. That year they released their first single and only LP, although they didn't achieve major success. They had a good number of loyal fans, but their music was too strange for a wider audience. A planned second LP was never completed as the band, unable to make a living in Argentina, went back to Uruguay, discouraged, in 1967. Although their comeback was welcomed enthusiastically, new tour plans fell through and they split up soon after. Remastered from the original stereo recordings. On 180 gram vinyl. LP $22 SKU:14637

MONDO DRAG - New Rituals - GREEN VINYL! Ltd. to 200 copies ( psych / stoner rock discovered by Parker Griggs of Radio Moscow ) - Label:ALIVE Trip out with Mondo Drag! From deep in the cosmos of Iowa, this psychedelic outfit has created a strange brew of garage, psych, space, sludge and stoner rock. "New Rituals," their debut for Alive, is an incursion into extended psychedelic blues guitar jams and haunting vocals over heavy, steady bass lines and thumping percussion. Mondo Drag has shared the stage with bands such as Witchcraft, Dead Meadow, Pentagram, and Radio Moscow, to name just a few. "They rock. Most songs clock in at over 6 minutes, yet you don't notice the time go by because they seem to take that long just to rev up. Each song stretches, cries, screams, and tears itself apart." - Berkeley Place LP $14 SKU:14388

MOPS- Exit ( 60 Japanese garage / psych quintet ) - Label:PHOENIX RECORDS (UK) One of the inumerable bands to emerge from the post-Beatles Japanese tour of 1966 with Fab Four pretentions. The Mops were a Tokyo quintet led by drummer Mikiharu Suzuki who had cut his musical teeth in a Ventures-style combo in the previous spring. The line-up was augmented by the arrival of Suzuki's older brother, Hiromitu, a lead vocalist with an Eric Burdon obsession who added hugely to the bands fuzzy garage soul sound. Not just a Merseyside homage turn, the Mops were a dedicated family whose love of garage rock and the nascent psychedelia would help them to create some of the most urgently deranged and muscially disruptive music of the entire Group Sounds era. Exit, the a live recording, features in its entirety the bands 1974 last concert at Nakano San Plaza. TRACKLISTINGS ON SITE LP $12 SKU:15263

SEA-DERS - ANTHOLOGY ( 60s Lebanese Rock ) Booklet contains liner notes by Mike Stax -Label:GROOVIE Contains all known grooving and infectious Middle Eastern inflected rock/beat tracks from the Sea-ders (or Cedars, depending on which 45 label you look at), Lebanon's top musical export to the world. Eight dynamic tracks, with driving rhythms, blazing electric bouzouki (or oud?), recorded between 1966-1968. Fantastic! Many groups have used elements of Eastern music to add mystery and exotica to their sound; the Sea-ders didn't flirt with foreign culture—they tapped right into the source. Decca Records contacted the group and offered them a record deal in the UK. Well, that didn't pan out, making the band's EP a very rare item indeed, despite being one of the most exciting releases of the era. Faced with studio bills from Decca, they sold their instruments and equipment and moved back to Beirut, leaving this perfect microcosm of exotic '60s pop in their wake. Liner notes by Mike Stax (Ugly Things Magazine). Limited pressing of only 500 copies. This time around, vinyl is mastered at 45 RPM, for maximum fidelity. The Sea-ders would only record eight tracks, but what amazing tracks they are!“As Record Collector magazine once noted, the Sea-Ders took a decidedly different tack when approaching this thing that is rock & roll. Instead of spiraling into over the top eastern-flavored otherness (like so many of their peers at the time) the Sea-Ders, having landed in London and signed to Decca in 1967, embraced a more primal, early Kinks-esque, approach to their songwriting. Coming from Beirut their take on the genre was already unique with succinct flourishes of psych and freakbeat coupled with their inherent cultural influences. Like so many non-western takes on the genre, the end result is a curious and unexpected gem.” —Aquarium Drinkard“They effortlessly combine hookah-smoked Middle-Eastern guitar lines & hand drum beats with flawless London pop-psych production, and the effect is decidedly heady.” —Weirdo Records LP $13 SKU:8849
