It’s an open crack into the unpronounceable dimensions into which tumble important streams of 20th century pop, art and underground culture, to seethe around each other, mingling, festering, sprouting new and unpredictable forms which in turn would ooze out to infest vast sections of what comes after." CYNICS- Blue Train Sessions (60s style garage)Label:GET HIP Reissue of this garage classic from Pittsburgh's legendary CYNICS. Re-engineered and remastered for CD, this classic blast of guitar, rhythm and screaming vocals. Originally released in 1986 by Skyclad, this release shows the genesis of their wall of guitar sound, and was the CYNICS's first full-length LP. Hear why this release has frequently been cited as a classic of the 80's, from one of the seminal garage bands of our time. 5 Extra tracks on CD. CD $10 SKU:10895

CYNICS- Living is the Best Revenge ( 60s style garage )- Label:GET HIP Living Is The Best Revenge CD completes the jumpstart upon my Ray-O-Vac heart. Alongside the two above-referenced originals and the Prunes tune are stellar covers of the Satans and the 13th Floor Els (what would a Cynics album be without the band genuflecting before the sonic teats that have nourished them since their cub scout years?) plus a slew of prime Cyns’ skree. Among my picks to click are the malevolent, iPsycho”-edged “The Tone” and the interstellar hard rock jam “Shine” which sounds like Coltrane crossed with the old Alice Cooper Group. But there ain’t a duff track in the bunch, and all I can close this appreciation with is — boy fuggin’ howdy!-Fred Mills, assoc. ed., MAGNET Magazine CD $10 SKU:10900

THUNDERS, Johnny--Diary of a Gypsy Lover 23 TRAX ALTERNATE STUDIO CUTS,LIVE,RADIO)?Label:SONIC Punk rock guitar hero, earning a cult following for his noisy but epic style a few years before the insouciant new music gained its name. Following in the footsteps of his idol and role model Keith Richards, Johnny Thunders (born John Anthony Genzale, Jr.) lived the ultimate rock & roll life, spending most of his days churning out tough, sloppy three-chord rock & roll and gaining nearly as strong a reputation for his decades-long struggle with addiction as for his music. Thunders made his greatest impact as a member of the New York Dolls, the proto-punk glam rockers of the early '70s. During the late '70s, he was a familiar figure on the New York punk scene, both with his band the Heartbreakers and as a solo artist. Thunders performed and recorded steadily until his death in 1991, turning out a series of records that inadvertently documented the struggles of his life and his art. CD $10 SKU:20428

PAYBACKS - Harder and Harder (real-deal Detroit R&R ) Label:GET HIP The Paybacks are real-deal Detroit R&R with capital letters and still stand as one of the city's best kept secrets. Fueled by the rocker-with-a-heart-of-gold vocals of Wendy Case, on ‘Harder And Harder ’, the Paybacks belt out nearly a dozen honest and passionate songs loaded with hooks. Their’s no denying that Wendy voice sounds like a combination of Wendy O. Williams and Joan Jett as she belts out eleven strong songs of sonic brash pop with blazing hard rock riffs and some firey guitar leads. The Paybacks are equal parts swagger and stagger as they plug away on melodic rockers like "Bright Side" and the glittery blues anthem "Jumpy." The scorching riff rockers like "Superrider" and "Scotch Love" assert how powerful and unrelenting this Motor City quartet can be and the soulfully executed ballad "Can You Drive?" suggests the band can do more than raise hell. ‘Harder And Harder’ sounds like a sonic combustion of The Runayways, the MC5 and the Dirtbombs played with a ton of heart and soul. And by calling this sonic firecracker ‘Harder and Harder’, the Paybacks will never be accused of false advertising. CD $10 SKU:21820

STEMS - Terminal Cool (83-86 gorgeous pop garage)- Label:GET HIP This brilliant retrospective captures a confident, self-assured band recorded during those hallmark years of ‘83 – ’86, and proves that Australia’s Stems were indeed an extremely varied animal. And there’s no denying the riff rocking prowess of the Byrdsian “Love Will Grow” and the psychedelic snarl of “Jumping To Conclusions.” Top notch ressue here with interesting liner notes and this reissue also includes 5 unreleased bonus tracks. CD $15 SKU:21868

CHAINS- On TOp of Things (60s garage style)-Label:GET HIP While the Chains hew closely to the early garage formula -- that is, more jangly than fuzzed-out and tuned down low, and tweaking it enough to make it their own, they breakaway on occasion, as if to prove they're aware it's 2003, not 1966 CD $10 SKU:21926

HEAD & THE HARES- ST(Roman fuzz-punks mid 60s style W BYRDS cover ) - Label:GET HIP The deluxe reissue of these Roman fuzz-punks’ self-titled debut (c. 1992) features a bonus cover of The Byrds classic "Feel a Whole Lot Better." FREDDY AND THE FOREGONE CONCLUSIONS - WIGGED OUT SOUNDS (Detroit garage punk Question Mark style) Label:GET HIP ARCHIVE In the hallowed halls of Detroit's garage punk legacy, only one man remains committed to the original doctrine layed out by bands like Question Mark and the Mysterians and the Unrelated Segments. That man is Freddy Fortune. Blasting off with Detroit-area chord mashers the Covingtons in 1988, the mid '90s found Fortune in an auspicious pairing with friend and collaborator Michael Maltese. The result, Fortune and Maltese and the Phabulous Pallbearers, would burn a trail of garage punk genius across the U.S. and abroad, spreading the gospel of lo-fi love to rock 'n' roll fans everywhere. Well folks 36 years later the mystery is finally laid to rest right here on this platter. Recorded and Produced by Freddy & the boys, and mixed at Detroit's mecca of garage, Ghetto Recorders with ! Jim Diamond. The album is a non stop powerhouse of 60's fueled Michigan Mayhem. CD $10 SKU:22170

A/LPACA- MAKE IT BETTER (psychedelic post punk)Label:SULATRON Debut album of this young psychedelic post punk band from Mantova, Italy. The "beat", the hypnotic and obsessive force that recalls primitive dances, is the concept of 'Make It Better'. A/lpaca's music picks up the signals from sixties London, in particular of bands such as Pink Floyd and Soft Machine (indirectly honored in the song I Am Kevin Ayers), mixes them with the Teutonic drive of Can, take some coolness from Joy Division and finally updates everything with the modern example of Thee Oh Sees and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. The result sounds hieratic and adrenaline, rigorous and wild, absolutely irresistible. Limited to 500 copies. CD $17 SKU:25961

HIGH SPEED & THE AFFLICTED MAN - Get Stoned Ezy (70s acid fried Hawkwind style w insert and rare pictures)Label:GUERSSEN n 1982, the mysterious Steve Hall, a self-proclaimed "hippie-punk" who had previously released a couple of D.I.Y basement-punk albums with his band Afflicted Man, recorded one of the most obscure, underrated and KILLER heavy-psych albums of all time. Credited to High Speed & Afflicted Man, "Get Stoned Ezy" consists of three long tracks of late 60s/early 70s influenced psychedelic hard-rock. A fuzz-wah assault of epic proportions in the style of other guitar-damage Gods like Human Instinct, Wicked Lady, Hendrix, High Rise, Sabbath, Stooges, etc, all played with a real acid-punk attitude. We present the first ever legit reissue of this lost masterpiece, licensed by Steve Hall. Remastered sound, insert with detailed liner notes by Chris Stigliano (Black To Comm) and rare pictures. CD $19 SKU:25799

INVADERS - There’s A Light , There’s A Way (70s African fuzz ) - Label:FRESH South African rock classic from 1971, filled with fuzz psych guitars, funky organ riffs, and great vocals: it sounds like these guys had been listening to Rare Earth, and judging by the guitar solos, maybe some Jimi Hendrix as well!. Errol Gobey (rhythm guitar, vocals) recalls: “It was a lot of hard work and we had very little sleep. In October 1966, we decided to visit Cape Town. The audience loved us, they went crazy, they wouldn’t let us off the stage! Our name spread quickly throughout the Cape. Somehow Trutone Records, which had a branch in the Cape, got to hear about us. One day we were travelling on the N2 in our panel van. We had ‘The Invaders’ painted in huge letters on the side. A white car pulled alongside us and asked us to pull over. We thought we were in trouble and were going to get a fine of some sort. A white guy approached us and asked us if we were interested in a recording contract. We immediately answered, ‘Yes!’” In 1969, the Invaders decided to try to break into the overseas market. They toured in Europe for two months (Germany, Holland, and England); but they had endless hassles and red tape trying to get work permits. The constant hurdles made them decide to go home. In April 1971, shortly after this album was released, The Invaders disbanded “for religious reasons,” (according to Gobey). The CD version has two bonus tracks—covers of ‘Born on the Bayou’ and (strangely) the Creation’s ‘Painter Man.’ CD $14 SKU:12043

LAS ANTORCHAS- ST ( 60s Mexican acid punk w liner notes, and a poster insert ) Paper mini slv replica SAALE!- Label:ORFEON Las Antorchas were formed in 1965 by five college students in Mexico City. They released only one EP on Orfeon, but had recorded enough material for an album. They split around 1968/69, but after a line-up change they continued under the name of Antorcha. Thanks to the persistence of VAM Records and record producer Manuel Alvarez Valdez, we now have all known material of Las Antorchas, including their Orfeon material. Their early sounds are rock/beat influenced, with most relying on organ and vocals. But the excellent ‘Dime’ is a really great acid-punk track. Truly underground Mexican rock, waiting to be discovered. This edition has liner notes, and a poster insert that replicates the Orfeon EP art. The CD features 18 tracks in all – their famous EP, plus a host of great singles – with titles that include "Opus 14 Interior 12", "Dime", "Shake", "Confesion", "El Soldado", "Sabia", "No Lo Hagas", "Canta Conmigo", and "Substitute". CD $10 SKU:15118

LOVE'N'JOY -Half Home (60s /70s, Brit pop and trippy psych influenced)Label:ROBUST FELLOW Taking influence from the golden age of '60s and '70s, British pop and trippy psychedelia, Love'n'joy's music perceive to be the journey of "tribal collective unconsciousness". But they also put an element of hard rock - with Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin among their influences. Their work reflects the spirit of a new, resurgent Ukrainian rock music. CD $17 SKU:25736

LOVE'N'JOY - BENDER ON THE SILK ROAD (60s /70s, Brit pop and trippy psych influenced)Label:ROBUST FELLOW Taking influence from the golden age of '60s and '70s, British pop and trippy psychedelia, Love'n'joy's music perceive to be the journey of "tribal collective unconsciousness". MIGUEL Y EL COMITÉ- Para Hacer Música, Para Hacer (70s acid Fuzz guitar ) Label:LION cover of a Shakers song. El Syndikato made Miguel Livichich a rock star in South America; but it was his sole effort as “Miguel y el Comité” that made him a groove-loving crate-digger’s dream!. Percussion plays a key role in the band’s sound, although the guitar playing is most distinctive: sometimes melodic, at other times carving a path through the mix, with a hard and acid distorted fuzz guitar sound, as on the title track and the fabulous cover of El Kinto's ‘Qué me importa. CD $10 SKU:13532

NOMADDS- ST ( 60's pop POKORA FAVE!) digipack -Label:WAYBACK RECORDS Watch out for the spelling of this album rarity by Illinois 60s band "NOMADDS". This is one of the real rare 60s albums, marked with four stars in Pokoras "1001 Rare Record Cover Book" and gets mentioned in Ugly Things "20Little-Known Albums That Need To Be Reissued" Section Amazing in its Beatle-like classiness and talent." (Patrick Lundborg - Author of Acid Archives). REMASTERED TO EXCELLENT SOUND, ORIGINAL COVER, 500 copies only. CD $10 SKU:10909

REVEREND BEAT-MAN & THE UNDERGROUND -IT'S A MATTER OF TIME-Label:VOODOO RHYTHM Reverend Beat-Man & the Underground locked themselves up in a chalet in the Swiss mountains for a week and wrote this album. Doom blues and nasty no-future-wave with synth folk trash. These are all first take recordings... no overdubs... everything is recorded live... and mixed a few weeks later by Matteo Bordin at Outside Inside Studio. This is doom blues or no-wave rock'n'roll from the Swiss mountains. CD $17 SKU:25415

ROCKADROME - Royal American 20th Century Blues (rare 60s pop psych) - Label:PACEMAKER Recorded in a time when creativity counted for more than commercial appeal, the album was recorded for the eclectic Sound Canada label. It sold poorly, but was rediscovered as part of the revival in interest in psychedelia; the only problem—copies of the original album were incredibly rare (and incredibly expensive!). The album is a mixture of rock, psych (some of the tracks are definitely Beatles influenced), and a touch of blues. The album opens with 'R.A.T.C.B. Teaser', which is used as a theme throughout the album, with a reprise at the end and the main song later on the disc. The first proper song is 'Very Strange,' a nice taste of psych with some fetching guitar-work, followed by the more bluesy 'Thirteen Miles Down' which includes the requisite blues guitar solo. The title track is split in two and done as a rock version and a psyche/pop version, both of which are very good, and 'There You Go Again' has a Byrdsian chime to it coupled with a Dylan-influenced vocal. 'Inside Out, Inside In' is one of the Beatles-y songs, but there is nothing wrong with that if it is done well, which this is. The intro to 'T.O. Town' has evinced comparisons with the Monkees as it is very similar to 'Last Train To Clarksville', but the song itself is a great garage rocker. 'Ain't It A Shame' is a little too close to goodtime pop for my liking, but put against the high quality of the rest of the album this can be forgiven.Studio owner and executive producer Art Snider (who had discovered and first recorded a young Gordon Lightfoot years earlier) was inspired enough by Rockadrome's first sessions to basically give engineer/producer Ray Lawrence free reign to carry the project in whatever direction it might go. Fortunately, it was an era of experimentation, studio clocks could mostly be ignored, (there was a belief that the best stuff was done after dark) and so Rockadrome was given an after-hours slot. All through that fall and winter, the songs were refined, recorded, tossed and replaced. Contemplated. Even the physical process became a strange routine. The guys would need to phone the studio by 5 pm to check that the evening schedule was open, then scramble into their cars east of Toronto & head down the 401. The results show that the band deserve their reputation. Extensively remastered, this is the first legitimate reissue. CD $10 SKU:12227

BEYOND THE CALICO WALL V/A (Excellent 60s acid-punk sampler) Label:VOXX LAST PRESSING of classic 60s psych! We thought this one was out of print, but found a few jackets at the pressing plant Excellent acid-punk sampler put together by New England collector Erik L. Issued fairly late in the game but recycling lots of weird psych numbers for the first time. A few tracks fall into the pointless-noise/novelty category but overall this was one of the best comps of the early 90s. All of the pieces are unbridled master strokes of the proto-punk D.I.Y. mentality married to the equally inspired garage rock psych of the mid- to late '60s. In a significant nod to collectors, none of these sides can be found on run-of-the-mill "best-of" anthologies, and there are only a mere handful that are available in any other incarnation. The material ranges from highly infectious pop melodies such as Duffy's spry rocker "Come Back Come Back" or the speed-fueled madness of the Waterproof Tinkertoy's trippy "Continuation." There are also a fair amount of indescribably acidic and downright far-out cuts, including the repetitive "Suzie's Gone" by the Afterglow and the rambling of Ceylib People's "Changes." In addition to the plethora of unearthed gems, Beyond the Calico Wall features a few familiar titles -- such as the faithfully extended 11-plus minute reworking of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" from 6 Feet Under as well as Rasputin & the Mad Monks' jet-propelled rendering of "I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)." Bhagavad Gita includes a mid-tempo distortion-driven electric guitar wailer titled "Long Hair Soulful," which was co-written by Chuck Mangione -- who included his version on his Eyes of the Veiled Temptress (1988). It is unknown if the famed jazz flügelhorn player was once a member of this Ohio-based band. COMP LP $20 SKU:21917

KILLED BY DEATH- Vol.5 ( rare U.S. punk )- Label:REDRUM The concept that started it all. KILLED BY DEATH- Vol. 1 ( EXCELLENT RARE 70S U.S. PUNK. - Label:REDRUM The first volume of Killed by Death appeared around 1988, the brainchild of (according to legend) a New York-based Swedish record collector who gathered up 15 of his all-time favorite new wave-ish rarities and unleashed them on what was then very much a fledgling punk collectors' market.

Concentrating almost wholly on '80s Americana, but with the odd early import to shake things up, the end result is an eclectic but nevertheless exciting package, its contents ranging from the Slugs, featuring former New York Doll Rick Rivets, to suitably macabre odes to L.A.'s Hillside Strangler by both the Hollywood Squares and the Child Molestors; a live Nuns cut, and a brace of anti-social stomps by the Authorities. There's also some neatly gratuitous nastiness from Britain's Users, a 1977-era punk band that sounds positively old fashioned compared to some of the young blades switching around elsewhere. PUNK AND DISORDERLY - Vol 1 (80 punk) Label:SPITTLE At last! A new vinyl edition of the three legendary 'Punk And Disorderly' compilations, originally released between 1982 and 1983. At the dawn of the eighties the first volume arrived as a fiery statement from the heart of the British punk scene. Back in the day, the glorious early punk energy was still alive and in the meantime transforming through a wave of new bands coming up with fresh ideas and attitudes. Thanks to a great selection of both originators and newcomers, the whole explosive energy that was at the core of punk movement is perfectly captured throughout these three landmark compilations. An incredible roster of bands such as Vice Squad, Blitz, Chaos UK, Anti-Nowhere League, Vibrators, Angelic Upstarts... all original British punk acts except the San Francisco based Dead Kennedys represented on volume 1 with their seminal hit 'Kill The Poor.' This is fierce, loud and raw music caught in the midst of transition between punk rock and its next "hardcore" evolution. All three volumes feature brand new tracklists including bonus tracks not available in the first editions. COMP LP $28 SKU:25320

AFFINITY-ST (1970 cult Brit prog blues) Label:BONFIRE Fully licensed, limited to 500 copies in gatefold sleeve. The sole album by cultish British prog-blues combo. Originally released in 1970 on influential label Vertigo, their self-titled album is still one of the most original effort of the England jazz-rock scene. Fronted by Linda Hoyle, a powerful vocalist who sounds like a cross between Carol King and Julie Driscoll, the line up was completed by Mo Foster (bass), Mike Jupp (electric and 12-string guitars), Lynton Naiff (keyboards) and Grant Serpell (drums and percussion). Their eclectic mixture was truly compelling moving over a certain psychedelic feel, thanks also to the ubiquitous Hammond organ. A singular effort that made definitely history. LP $34 SKU:25781

DANDO SHAFT - AN EVENING WITH DANDO SHAFT (1968 PSYCH FOLK)Label:TRADING PLACES Formed in the West Midlands manufacturing town of Coventry in 1968, esteemed psychedelic folk group Dando Shaft are revered as key influencers of the progressive strand of the 1960s folk revival, and the interplay of melodies on guitar, mandolin and violin made their sound distinctive, thanks to frontman Martin Jenkins, whose expressive vocals compliment his intricate lines, while Roger Bullen's melodious bass helps to lubricate the proceedings. Recorded before Polly Bolton's harmonic presence shifted the emphasis of their output, this 1970 masterwork is required listening for all progressive folk devotees. LP $34 SKU:25962

DEAD NITTELS- ANTI NEW WAVE LIGA (legendary "green tape" of one of the first Aussie punk bands 1982)Label:BACHELOR Yes, this is the legendary "green tape" of one of the first Austrian punk bands Dead Nittels. Triggered by their gig with the UK Subs on September 26, 1982 in Ampermoching/Dachau/Germany at the "Gasthaus zur Post", the Dead Nittels booked some studio time to lay down no less than 16 tracks in only three days, on a four track recorder - but the only used two of them - one track for the instruments and one for the vocals, they bought the cheapest tapes available - which happened to be ugly green, and dubbed 300 copies with the studio tracks plus seven live tracks from their UK Subs show. Good luck if you want to track down one of the tapes... For all others, here's the remastered greatness of this early Austrian punk album! LP $24 SKU:25731

HOOKER- Rock and Roll (Ltd ed Houston 1978 blues guitar) ltd color vinyl - Label:SHROOMANGEL Previously unreleased Houston hard rock band from the late 70’s with that ripping Texas twin guitar sound. This album was taken from sessions recorded in 1978, painstakingly unearthed, edited and remastered for proper release. On multi colored vinyl, limited to 500 copies! Hooker had been around in various configurations since 1972. First recordings began in 1974 at Rampart Studios under the direction of studio engineer Jeff Wells. Those early demos featured Hooker as a three piece hard rock/blues rock band, it wasnt until later that they began to take a decidedly heavier approach in sound and style. With the addition of Robert Hampton in place of Tim Cannon on lead/rhythm guitar, the band began to find their direction and hit the clubs hard. Influenced by bands such as Tin House, Ted Nugent, and Black Oak Arkansas, Hooker had it all on stage - flash, great songs, lots of groupies, and of course all the best drugs! Well, that couldnt last, and the band called it a day in 1983 when the lifestyle finally caught up to David Howland. The other members soldiered on in various reconstructed versions of Hooker, with varying degrees of success. The short lived post Hooker band Stallions was a highlight, with all the same elements of Hooker including three of the four members. Eventually, David would rejoin the band and Stallions became Hooker for all intents and purposes. Unfortunately, the music world had changed too dramatically since the days when a band could play the kind of loud, aggressive, dual guitar riff-rock that Hooker so convincingly played. This record represents the pinnacle of the band, the long lost 1978 Inergi Studios recordings that never saw official release all those years ago. This album is the one that should have come out in 1978. Better late than never. LP $28 SKU:13814

THEE ESCAPEES- BREAKING OUT (1960s garage-beat-trash inpsired)Label:SPINOUT NUGGETS Thee Escapees are a trio of runaways, re-grouping to make and perform musical happenings, some of which are now laid into two continuous grooves. Inspired by the sounds of 1960s garage-beat-trash, with a mixture of rhythm & blues, and a rock'n'roll beat, that's gonna knock your towelling socks off!! Based in London, England, they've played in some cracking bands over the years, and recently decided to combine their strengths to create this powerhouse garage beat trio. With Alan Walshe on gutsy lead vocals, raucous guitar and organ (at some point also Lancashire Bombers, The Trick Noise Makers, The SD5, The Voyd and others), Dave Prince skilfully manning his vintage Trixon Speedfire drumkit, vocals and screams (at some point The Voo-Dooms, Lancashire Bombers, The Untamed, The Sundowners, and also with The Hi-Fi's and Diamond Daddio's) and Mark 'Fazza' Farrington on bass guitar and vocals (previously in Long Tall Shorty and Joe Public), Thee Escapees found themselves in Jim Riley's Ranscombe Studios in Medway, and this is the result.
Since the recordings, Mark has since 'escaped', and Sean 'Cookie Boy' Pereira has joined Dave and Alan on bass guitar (also of The Spellbinder Project). Their influences are The Vibes, The Yardbirds, Nine Below Zero, The Milkshakes, The Sonics and Bo Diddley. Get the picture? LP $26 SKU:25784

VELVET ATTACK -VISIONS FROM INNER SPACE (60s based popsike)Label:SOUNDFLAT Velvet Attack are a '60s based indie-rock-group from Dortmund, Germany formed in November 2018 to play velvet popsike melodies boosted by prog/kraut educated guitar approach. The five members have been part of different musical projects (Jelly Planet, Damo Suzuki Band, Astra Kid, The Cheeks), which is reflected in their multi-layered, refined sound. On one hand, they stick to the classic combination of jangling Rickenbacker sounds with fine vocal harmonies as presented by groups from the past, let's say from The Byrds to The Bangles but on the other hand their rock attitude is rooted with punk prototypes to psychedelic from the sixties.
