ELECTRIC FLAG --Best of the Electric Flag (1967 POST PAUL BUTTERFIELD-Label:FLOATING WORLD he short-lived but successful Electric Flag was formed in 1967 by guitarist Mike Bloomfield after he'd left The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, ostensibly to give original guitarist Elvin Bishop, in Mike's words, "A little space." Undoubtedly he had also become uncomfortable with Paul Butterfield's position as bandleader and was anxious to lead his own band. When Bloomfield left, he brought vocalist Nick Gravenites with him. The rest of the original group was a collection of seasoned professionals from some of America's most successful bands. Drummer Buddy Miles had done session work with Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett, bassist Harvey Brooks had been with Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs and Judy Collins. Keyboard player Barry Goldberg had previously played with Steve Miller and Mitch Ryder, Peter Strazza on tenor saxophone had also played for Miller. Trumpeter Marcus Doubleday had backed The Drifters, Jan And Dean as well as Bobby Vinton. Herbie Rich, a well seasoned session man, completed the ensemble on baritone sax . CD $10 SKU:26514

FALCO , TAV - Life Sentence in the Cathouse-Label:TRIPLE X Tav, that Memphis musicologist, mixes up another batch of spooky almost-had-it hits and echo-chambered obscurities whose titles tell the story. "What's Wrong," "My Mind Was Messed Up At the Time," "Torture," "I'm Gonna Dig Myself a Hole." But the real star is Tav's own alter ego, Eugene Baffle, whose four songs here (including "Vampire From Havana" and "Autosapien" --"you can't tell the man/from his car") describe some other dimension of weirdness. This collection isn't as consistently satisfying as "The World We Knew," his 1987 five-star collaboration with Alex Chilton, but it's a great companion piece. CD $5 SKU:17172

FALCO , TAV & THE PANTHER BURNS - The World We Knew- Label:TRIPLE X Chilton’s revitalized production and playing on The World We Knew helps make it one of Falco’s all-time best showings. Using a rotating collection of sidemen, the carefully annotated songs — a scholarly combination of R&B, Sun rockabilly, blues and other wondrous musical inventions (“desert skulk fugue; decorticated cycle tune; the Stuttgart, Arkansas sound,” to quote the liner notes) — get a thorough and affectionate workout that remains surehanded without ever slipping down off the rustic funk meter. (There are no originals on this non-didactic history course.) All concerned sound as though they’re having a blast, and that feeling comes right through the speakers. The CD adds Shake Rag. Hole punch on bar code CD $5 SKU:21242

FALLEN ANGELS-The Great Society Sucks: Halloween 1968 (60s psych) Label:CICADELIC Since Washington DC was the home for the Fallen Angels, the band did not miss out on radicalizing the 1968 presidential elections by letting their disparaging views on the LBJ and his 'Great Society' be aired. Amidst all the politics is a great live performance by the Fallen Angels, combining original songs from their two psychedelic albums ('No Way Out' and 'Poor Old Man') with a previously unreleased song ('Everything Would Be Fine'), along with covers of Dylan (done acid-rock style), Donovan (raga-rock style), and Love (the highlight of the show, 'Signed DC' is a nine minute tour de force interrupted by a fist fight in the audience. The Fallen Angels broke up a year later in 1969, but not before blowing many a mind on the east coast during their glorious reign in Washington DC. CD $10 SKU:19760

DESTROY ALL MONSTERSBORED (FR) 1979 TRACKS PROTO PUNK-SAALE
Label:
Detroit-based cult band Destroy All Monsters played an anti-conformist style of music that, in the core, was a noisy and arty mixture of psychedelic rock and proto punk. The band is also legendary due to the involvement of members of MC5 and The Stooges. This vinyl release compiles seven tracks involving Stooges-guitarist Ron Asheton. Dating back to 1978 and 1979, these are among the catchiest, rockiest tunes the band ever did! LP $30 SKU:25963

DEUTER - D (German cosmic psych 1970) Label:MISSING VINYL We say: ““A wonderfully entertaining exploration of drones, swells, rhythms, and melodies. Deuter was clearly a student of Indian ragas, but he took that influence and mixed it with drug-tinged psychedelia and synthesizers to create a vibrant new hybrid. If you're into kraut-rock, world music, ambient, and/or psychedelia, you need to get this album. Also highly recommended to fans of Acid Mothers Temple and the new psychedelia...” Deuter was a product of both East and West. Eckart Rahn, a young record producer at that time, recognized Deuter's talents, and in 1971 released his first recording, “D,” on the then fledgling Kuckuck label (not, we hasten to mention, in any way a “new age” album). Deuter began to go into the mountains to record birds, water and wind to accompany his music; he also began spending much of his time at an ashram in Poona, India. Deuter was also one of the first artists to blend that Eastern influence into his music. Yet he did that blending in such a gentle fashion that it never jarred Western ears, unaccustomed to Eastern rhythms and tonalities. The terrific “D” album is an all solo affair recorded via multi-tracked guitars, electronics, percussion, flutes, and so on, in what looks to be Deuter’s bed-room; very psychedelic processing, at times an almost ADII-like heaviness mixing with more Popol Vuh-ish mystical spaciousness. Perfectly crafted headspace and always a pleasure to absorb, this is one of the finest and most unheralded albums of the early 1970s German scene. An all-time favorite.” label says: “Deuter was one of the earliest multi-instrumental soloists in Germany. He is considered to be one of the pioneers of New Age music and is still active, having released more than 40 albums. D, his first album, was released on the legendary Kuckuck label in 1971 and is considered to be a classic. With guitars, sitar, organ, harmonium, Asian and Oriental percussives, etc., it is a mixture of psychedelic underground rock, cosmic music and ethnic fusion, at places similar to Amon Düül 2, Between and Popol Vuh. Limited edition, deluxe 180g vinyl, exact reproduction of the original first pressing LP $22 SKU:21068

FLIED EGG - DR. SIEGEL'S FRIED EGG SHOOTING MACHINE (1972 psych prog) - SAALELabel:COSMIC ROCK 1972 debut album by cultish Japanese combo! This unbelievable psychedelic/progressive rock band came together the same year after Shigeru Narumo and Hiro Tsunoda shelved their project Strawberry Path (they had a sole album release in 1971 and eventually a 7 inch). Their sound is pure adrenaline, a stormy hard blues kinda thing, with heavy Hammond organ riffs and more than a freakbeat influence. Partially informed by contemporaries, British bands like Deep Purple or Uriah Heep, they opened to more gentle and sophisticated arrangements in the soulful ballad 'I Love You' with an epic string section. The hypothetical single 'Plastic Fantasy' could have been an alternative dancefloor classic with that Traffic/Brian Auger feel in the end. LP $25 SKU:25791

FOLKLORDS -Release the Sunshine -return of a revered Canadian psychedelic rarity in a hand-numbered limited edition LP on sun yellow vinyl! SAALE Label:LION A new edition of this Canadian folk/psych classic — perfect dreamy, sunshine-infused-yet-with-clouds-passing-by pop psychedelia with a folk bent, originally released by independent Canadian label Allied Records in 1968. When we first issued this terrific album many many years ago, our booklet featured the few scraps of information on the band we could find. We challenged “anyone out there” to find some information on this elusive and intriguing band. Well, we’re pleased that someone took us up on that offer, and that the specific someone was band leader Tom Waschkowski (credited on the album as Tom Martin). He graciously offered us a band history, lyrics, and some terrific photos. This allows us to offer up as perfect a reissue of this album as humanly possible.

The Folklords “Release the Sunshine” is a captivating album, a notion shared by the many collectors world-wide who fight for original copies, which are few and far between. Strange thing is, if someone were to say to us that the Folklords album was released by Creation Records in 1987, it would be difficult to argue. You may well ask, why? Our answer: the chiming guitars, the rattle of tambourine, the dreaminess, the sometimes dark lyrics, and the harmony vocals of Martha Johnson place the Folklords closer to Biff Bang Pow, the Jesus and Mary Chain, the Revolving Paint Dream, or even My Bloody Valentine’s debut, “Ecstasy and Wine” (granted, at a much slower speed, and without the rampant fuzz guitar) than it does to sunny 1960’s poppiness. Glorious newly remastered sound — sourced directly from the master tapes. •Glorious new remaster sourced directly from the master tape•Dreamy sunshine-infused-yet-with-clouds-passing-by pop psychedelia with a folk bent and a futuristic sound LP $28 SKU:26335

FOX- For Fox Sake (1970 UK PSYCH ZOMBIES STYLE)- SAALELabel:SOMMER Originally released in 1970 but sounding more akin to ‘67-68, “For Fox Sake” is a superb example of UK psych, highly recommended if you’re into APPLE, KOOBAS, ZOMBIES, OCTOPUS, SKIP BIFFERTY, SPENCER DAVIS GROUP, RUBBLES. First ever vinyl reissue with original UK artwork. Remastered sound and insert with photos / memorabilia plus liner notes by band member Steve Brayne. Formed in Brighton in 1968 with roots to the mod-soul scene, The Fox consisted of Steve (Stephen) Brayne on lead guitar & vocals, Winston Weatherill (ex-Gary Farr & The T-Bones) on lead guitar & sitar, Alex Lane on keyboards & vocals, Tim Reeves on drums and Dave Windross on bass. During their brief existence they supported The Herd and opened for David Bowie. Their sound was loud and righteous with great vocal harmonies, tight rhythm section and wonderful keyboard /guitar solos. After getting signed to a London management, they recorded their only LP in one session and they had it released in the UK on the Fontana label and on the USA on Crewe, featuring a different cover. Sadly, the band broke up following year and since the inclusion of “Butterfly” in one of the Rubbles comps several decades later, they've become a cult group among psych collectors LP $22 SKU:22891
