Taken from previously unreleased acetates and studio tapes, 'Songs From The Family Tree' charts the groups hitherto-undocumented progress from 1967 to 1969 as they slowly evolved from their original, Hollies-inspired psychedelic pop direction to create a more individual identity. NEW CHRISTS-DIVINE RITES (Radio Birdman)Label:CITADEL The New Christs were originally formed by Radio Birdman and New Race vocalist Rob Younger after he was offered the support spot on Iggy Pop's Australian tour of 1984. The other members had played in groups such as Celibate Rifles, Lime Spiders and Hoodoo Gurus. The tour proved a success and the band stayed together, recording the two singles Like A Curse and Born Out Of Time for Sydney independent label Citadel Records.These releases gained acclaim for their tough and uncompromising nature and were soon released in Europe by French based label Sonics. With the prospect of an album deal and European tour possible, the other members however chose to return to their other band interests. Younger was left to pursue a career producing some of the finest upcoming Australian alternative bands.
In 1986 Barracudas bass player Jim Dickson returned to Australia from the UK and together with Younger started a new line-up. Featured were Charlie Owen, a gifted but as yet unknown guitarist and drummer Louis Burdett who soon left and was replaced by Nick Fisher who had previously played with Ed Kuepper and Wet Taxis. Over the next three years, the band released a series of hard hitting singles; Black Hole, Headin' South and the EP Dropping Like Flies. These new tracks were compiled under the title Divine Rites and released in Europe as a mini-album thus allowing the group to tour there for the first time.
The group then went on to record the landmark album Distemper but soon broke up, leaving Younger again with a long period of inactivity. Following the breakup all of the band's early tracks were compiled onto CD for the first time and released in 1990 under the title Divine Rites through Citadel's Germany imprint. CD $17 SKU:23317

Penned by Glenn, the 11 songs on this album are firmly rooted in genuine powerpop/-rock and are characterized by great tunes and exceptional harmonies. The song writing is probably leaning more towards pop than power pop which may be the result of more co-writes than on previous albums. EDWARDS HAND-RAINSHINE (1971baroque pop post-Picadilly) Label:WOODEN HILL The first-ever issue of 'Rainshine', the semi-mythical third and final LP from post-Picadilly Line outfit Edwards Hand, recorded in early 1971 with legendary producer George Martin at the helm. Despite persistent collector-world rumours of a withdrawn or promo-only pressing on the Regal Zonophone label, the album failed to gain any kind of release - until now, that is. As can finally be heard, 'Rainshine' turns out to be a lost early '70s soft rock/baroque pop classic, with a clutch of wonderful songs ably supported by sumptuous vocal harmonies, sympathetic musicianship and some exquisite baroque pop arrangements from George Martin. ALACRAN -ST (1971 powerful West Coast psych/prog)Label:SOMMER Powerful hardrock with West Coast, psychedelic, prog and Latin-rock touches from Spain, released in 1971. The missing link between Los Brincos and Barrabas. 'Alacran' was the only release by this short-lived band, recorded in 1969 as a self-released edition. It was released in Spain and Brazil but despite the good reviews and interest from some record labels in the U.S.A., the band never got to play live and soon after they split. LP $25 SKU:22534

BOLDER DAMN- Mourning (60s psych Blue Cheer, MC5 style ) Label:GUERSSEN Highly recommended if you like Sabbath, Blue Cheer, Pentagram, MC5, Sainte Anthony's Fyre. Reissue of an absolute monster US hard-rock private pressing. Hailing from Florida, Bolder Damn released this beast in 1971, featuring ultra-heavy, "raw-in-your-face" sound with devastating fuzzed-out guitar, solid rhythm section and manic vocals. First discovered and reissued by the legendary Rockadelic label in 1990, the album has gained cult status among new fans of '70s proto-doom and hard-rock sounds since then. After many of years of being out of print, now here's the definitive vinyl reissue of 'Mourning', including original artwork, a fold-out insert with liner notes and an interview with singer John Anderson and rare pictures. CRAMPS-SONGS THE LORD TAUGHT US (DELUXE VERSION) LAST ONES!-Label:ILL EAGLE A truly amazing release from the same folk who did the 'Rock 'n'Roll Monster Bash' special edition in 2019. This is the ORIGINAL version of 'Songs The Lord Taught Us' that The Crampswanted released. It has been expertly remastered from one of only a handful of test pressing copies known to exist (all the original masters were destroyed in the Universal fire a few years back). In the late '90s, a version of this was released, taken from a second generation cassette recording and while welcome at the time, this edition is head and shoulders above the Alien Records edition in terms of sound quality, artwork and presentation! DAYBREAK-ST-(rare garage psych 1971)-Label:OUT SIDER The first ever vinyl reissue of this elusive US private pressing from 1971, originally released on the legendary RPC custom label. This is a delivery of intense and crude garage-psych with echoing vocals, loud distorted guitar, fuzz bass and organ. The band recorded three killer band originals plus some insane cover versions (of songs by a.o. Steppenwolf and Neil Young) with a basement vibe not unlike Mystic Siva! JOHN THE REVELATOR- WILD BLUES (70s Dutch blues) Label:PSEUDONYM Back in 1970 the Dutch blues band John The Revelator won the prestigious Loosdrecht Jazz Concours. Record label Decca immediately offered them a recording contract, which resulted in the release of the legendary album 'Wild Blues'. It was recorded at the Phonogram studio with producer Tony Vos, who had a great track record with bands like Cuby + Blizzards, Ekseption and the Oscar Benton Blues Band. At that time John The Revelator had grown into a seven-piece band. They had just two days to record the album and one evening to mix it. Most tracks were done in two or three takes, with a bare minimum of overdubs: just vocals and horns. 'Wild Blues' has since become a highly sought-after collectors item. This deluxe 180-gram audiophile vinyl LP set presents the original album in its entirety, plus two extra songs: the instrumental 'Yeah' and the (in 1971) recorded B-side of a never released single, 'One Track Mind', all dynamically mastered from the original tapes. The gatefold sleeve features restored cover art, along with rare archival photos and liner notes. John the Revelator is still alive and kicking and has been on the road now for 45 years. They play all over Europe and toured Australia. OZ KNOZZ -Ruff Mix( US 70s private press hard rock/prog)Label:OZONE First legit reissue of one of the best US private press hard rock/progressive rock albums of the 1970s. Formed in 1969 in Houston, TX, Oz Knozz's original crew included multi-instrumentalists Jack Alford, Bill Massey and Duane Massey. Alford left the group in 1971 and was replaced by drummer Marty Naul, while the next year the trio was joined by guitarist Richard Heath. The band had also a three-man horn section, which was dropped quite fast, although horns remained a part of the band's sound, even on their rare and epochal 1975 private press debut ''Ruff Mix,” released on the band’s own Ozone label.“Ruff Mix” mainly grooves in Hard Rock territory—the second track 'Peanut Butter Yoni' sounds a bit like Judas Priest with a proto-Metal feeling; but the album also has elements of Progressive Rock, Horn Rock and Pomp Rock. Like most bands of the era, the idea was to throw out a few different styles to see if something would stick… the theory being that a major label would hear the private album by chance and sign said band so they could open for Led Zeppelin or Foghat's next US tour… or something like that. What separates Oz Knozz from others is a strong compositional component, the band have plenty of original ideas and muster superb instrumentation. The guitar work ranges from hard and powerful to melodic and bluesy and is supported by some great keyboard, including awe-inspiring organ and synth waves. The three-part 15-minute 'Doodley Squat’ suite features heavy dual keyboard parts, crunchy guitars and expressive vocals; the result is a terrific Hard Prog track with lot of energy. For many, the standout track is the groovy and infectious horn rocker, which sounds as dated as the movement itself and easily could have been from 1969.
