NEW ARRIVALS AND SAALE ITEMS!

We have a brand new title in from the legendary 60s and 70s reissue GEAR FAB label, along with a big batch of restocks from them too, check the label here!

Also some more of those bargain archive cds, you guys always love those, they go FAST.

And of course the usual mid week adds to the LAST COPIES section, great deals on those.

And I finally got around to checking each and every BROWN ACID album to see what color they REALLY are, the label doesn’t mark them and I will buy something that is supposed to be yellow and then we check and it’s black, or red, or whatever! Fun! We have them all marked and sorted out now. These are all opened obviously, but mint, and they are what they say that are, for a change, ha ha. Check the label here.

Thanks for all!
Suzy Shaw

STONE HARBOUR- Emerges Label:GEAR FAB From 1974, this ultra-rare private pressing is a wonderfully atmospheric album that veers from folk acoustic through acid and heavy rock and everywhere in between with fluid acidic and often over the top fuzz and manic guitar. CD $10 SKU:25281

YANCY DERRINGER -Openers (1974 ACID ROCK w Weedburner and more) Label:GEAR FAB Yancy Derringer was a four-piece band from Wisconsin that recorded an album titled Openers in 1976. With an original pressing of only 1000 copies, the album reflected the band's live act and creative talents in seven original songs. The sound of Yancy Derringer was similar to that of some of the more hard driven southern U.S. rock acts of the day such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band, Ozark Mountain Daredevils and many more. After selling out the initial thousand pressings very quickly, the band ordered a second pressing, which got caught up management hassles and was delayed. This caused fans to lose interest in the band; by 1976, the group's momentum had passed Yancy Derringer broke up, leaving the world with another limited pressing album. In the late '90s, Gear Fab acquired the rights to the band's original masters and released that long lost album for fans of '70s rock to enjoy. With detailed band history and song information as in all Gear Fab releases, Yancy Derringer can now take its place in the history of American rock music. ~ Keith Pettipas, Rov CD $10 SKU:25314

Pink Anderson (1900–1974) spent most of his life working as a roving entertainer in the small medicine shows that traveled throughout the South. His stage repertoire included blues, comedic songs, country ballads, and minstrel show tunes.Pink’s songs were first recorded in 1950 by the folk singer Paul Clayton. Folklorist Kenneth S. Goldstein heard the material, and asked the music historian Samuel Charters to find Pink and document his song repertoire. Charters subsequently featured Pink in his documentary The Blues. After a film session at his home in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in the summer of 1962, Pink felt like singing, so Charters continued recording. Many of the songs on this album come from those tapes, which include Pink’s friend, blues guitarist Baby CD $20 SKU:25384

This fantastic new album marks their return, more energetic and rocking than ever. This album features a mix of covers (including a tune by the Lyres!), and originals thatíll put a smile on your face! A must for fans of Cynics, Lyres and energetic garage rock. CD $10 SKU:23190

CROOKED OAK -FROM LITTLE ACORNS GROW(reissue of rare 1976 release)-Label:SEELIE COURT 380 copy limited edition first pressings in mini card gatefold sleeves, from Glass Masters (not cdrs)Crooked Oak is one of the very few folk bands who imbued their songs with mystery, power and grandeur. The combination of Steve Evans' sonorous voice and haunting Irish pipes convert the songs into a beautiful mystical experience. So to describe Crooked Oak as 'acid folk' would be misleading, instead it is a deep, profound work of art, lifted by superb vocals and wrapped in a sense of mystery. The band channel the music, tradition, heritage, and the magic that still courses through Sainted Albion's blood soaked lands. Originally released in 1976. CD $19 SKU:24802

CRYSTAL SYPHON- FAMILY EVIL/ ELEPHANT BALL (SF 60s)Label:GEAR FAB Comes in an old-style “tip-on” jacket with a digital download. Plying their trade in the fertile San Francisco scene of the late '60s, Crystal Syphon's name was only known to aficionados through viewing copies of old SF gig posters and through the index of bands at the back of Ralph Gleason's book on the rise of Jefferson Airplane. Then both their studio and live 1967-1969 archival recordings were discovered that replaced the imagination with true grooves in 2012 and 2015 with the release of 2 LPs on Roaratorio Records. Trying to find comparison with other Bay area bands from that era has proven a bit fruitless as they don't specifically evoke any of the heavy hitters of the era. They have a bit of a dreamy, stoned vibe with some great harmonies and some have compared their style to Quicksilver Messenger Service (John Cipollina was their idol!!) as well as H.P. Lovecraft. As with so many bands of the era, the draft, time and declining fortunes signaled the end of the band. There is some great guitar work alongside the Farfisa organ in the extended jams, and fans of the west-coast sound should delight in these recordings. CD $14 SKU:23863

CYCLE -COSMIC CLOUDS(Early 70s Sabbath/Hawkind style) SAALE! Label:RISE ABOVE RELICS The CD edition comes with a 40-page booklet, outlining the history of the band with tons of photos and flyers from the band member's personal archive. CYNICS- Learn To Lose ( 60s style garage )- Label:GET HIP This is the moody 1993 followup to the critically acclaimed Rock ‘N’ Roll album. With a batch of new material, the band took it’s time in the studio to take the music to the next level. Includes a cool cover of the Lollipop Shoppe’s “You Must Be A Witch CD $10 SKU:10898

CYNICS- Living is the Best Revenge ( 60s style garage )- Label:GET HIP Living Is The Best Revenge CD completes the jumpstart upon my Ray-O-Vac heart. Alongside the two above-referenced originals and the Prunes tune are stellar covers of the Satans and the 13th Floor Els (what would a Cynics album be without the band genuflecting before the sonic teats that have nourished them since their cub scout years?) plus a slew of prime Cyns’ skree. Among my picks to click are the malevolent, iPsycho”-edged “The Tone” and the interstellar hard rock jam “Shine” which sounds like Coltrane crossed with the old Alice Cooper Group. But there ain’t a duff track in the bunch, and all I can close this appreciation with is — boy fuggin’ howdy!
-Fred Mills, assoc. ed., MAGNET Magazine CD $10 SKU:10900

BROWN ACID- THE SEVENTH TRIP (HEAVY ROCK FROM THE UNDERGROUND COMEDOWN)- Transparant RED VINYL Label:RIDING EASY "Everybody's favorite source for the hard stuff is back in business, with ten more lethal doses of rare hard rock, heavy psych and proto-metal! Hard to believe it's seven Trips in and they haven't lost any steam. As usual, these obscure tracks have all been licensed, the bands have been paid, and the sources are all analog. The quality of tracks seems to increase along with the number of Trips and this cohesive collection comes outta the gate with both guns blazing! Pegasus recorded one single in Baltimore in 1972 and they made it count. 'The Sorcerer' is a throbbing ripper that prior to this was basically unknown. The track title for the Nobody's Children single and start thinking, oh no, Riding Easy given up on bad trips. Fret not, 'Good Times' was originally written as a joke. The song has since been bootlegged numerous times and even covered by the Butthole Surfers, but this is the first time it's been fully licensed. This latest volume continues with many more boneheaded bangers, crunchy jams, and incredibly damaged heavy slabs. The closer on the Seventh Trip is one the label holds very near and dear. Not only is this record the one that's taken the longest to secure the rights to, it's also one of the very best examples of heavy psych ever heard. 'The Darkness' was recorded in a basement studio in Kansas City in 1969 when the lead guitarist was only 16. The band was from a rural Missouri town, played only one impromptu gig in Clinton, and pressed only 125 copies of this, their only single. It should come as no surprise that it sells for hundreds of dollars when it's offered. That's a small price to pay for such greatness.

BROWN ACID- THE SIXTH TRIP -HEAVY ROCK FROM THE UNDERGROUND COMEDOWN- CLEAR BLUE Label:RIDING EASY 018 collection, the sixth installment in this popular series. Six volumes worth of licensed tracks released in just three years: doing the Dark Lord's work isn't an easy job, but somebody's gotta do it, so here is Brown Acid - The Sixth Trip, with more lined up. The heads just can't get enough obscure hard rock, heavy psych, and proto-metal from the late'60s and '70s! This time around Riding Easy present ten deep cuts from across the continental USA and one from the neighbors up North. This trip kicks off with an outrageous number from Gold out of San Francisco circa 1970. The band used to open their sets with this over-the-top frantic jammer which is absolutely mind-blowing! Delving deeper into the depths, Canadians continue to prove that they could bang heads with the best of 'em! Heat Exchange from Toronto released the rollicking ripper "Inferno" on the Yorkville label way back in 1968 and it's still thumping almost fifty years later. Some more examples of the mind-melting tracks on this platter: Missouri isn't a state that brought us a lot of heavy 45s, but there are a handful of outstanding tracks, one of which is the funk-laced anthem "Give Me Time" by Backwood Memory from Kansas City. Youngstown, Ohio, meanwhile, might have been the Hard Rock Mecca back in the day. Travis is yet another Youngstown group that aimed to get asses out of seats and out in the streets. Truth & Janey had their incredible proto-metal masterpiece 1976 album No Rest For The Wicked; released four years earlier, "Midnight Horseman" was a 45-only track, included here! Those are just some of the fruits of months worth of record digging and detective work included on this latest installment. This is the stuff that makes life worth living, at least until the next Trip.

Songwriter/vocalist Patrick McKanna and guitarist Matt Swaney have created a landmark LP which encapsulates rock, country and power-pop influences, combined with solid, insightful lyrics. Patrick McKanna has followed his own muse throughout his entire music career and has steadfastly refused to bow to current styles and influences. His work relies on classic songwriting skills. Matt Swaney’s hookful, melodic guitar ensures that the songs stick in your memory after the album is over. Palace of Sin delivers on the promise of 1986’s Locomotion Vs. Hittin’ The Brake, a seminal record in the development of the Dallas, Texas 1980’s Deep Ellum music scene. The band also appeared on the Island Records 1987 release The Sound of Deep Ellum, a musical snapshot of the fertile mix of styles and influences existing on the Dallas music scene. [Their musical pedigree goes back to the dawn of punk/new wave — Patrick appeared on a local 45 rarity by the U.S. Mods, and Matt was a member of Dallas punk band The Assassins.Proving that stellar songwriting and classic production values never go out of style, Palace of Sin will be an album that is destined to remain on ‘repeat’ on your playlist” Released August 2018, but being made available for distribution for the first time. UMBRA -ST ((heavy, heavy music from the start of the 'American Comedown Era) Label:LION Lion ltd ed of 300 LP edition comes with an 8-page LP-sized color booklet, with lyrics, photos, plus interesting and funny things that can only happen to musicians, and did to Umbra.

What was available to unknown hard rocking dreamers like Umbra in Denver in 1971-72? Weekend gigs. Nothing but weekend gigs. But there was an upside to that: bands like Umbra could mix original material in with covers, and make enough money to survive. Or in the case of Umbra, to make enough money to build a home studio, where they recorded ads to promote their upcoming shows -- and eventually, laid down the eight tracks on this disc. Everything was recorded by bouncing tracks back and forth between two-track and four-track reel-to-reel tape recorders. Spacey intros and weird effects were created by recording guitar licks, then re-recording them played backwards at double speed. What sounds like a flute was the result of blowing over the top of a 14" goose neck (believe it or not). The resulting tracks are hard edged and heavy, verging on acid rock at times. Makes sense, as Umbra was a power trio most of their too-brief existence. Yet the songs (heavy though they are) have a deft touch. There are weird effects, space rock elements, plenty of melody, and a refreshing category-free approach to writing songs that makes Umbra's music exciting to hear.

We know that band bios can be sterile and boring or can move to the opposite spectrum, rife with grandiose embellishment. Umbra's story is neither. Instead, it is the story is the story of a band from the early 1970's who recorded what they wanted to record: heavy, heavy music from the start of the 'American Comedown Era' (as we've seen it described by friends for their Brown Acid series of compilations). Umbra's story is also that of a band whose music, terrific though it is, has never to this point been released out into the wide world. Prepare yourselves to be surprised -- and we hope as impressed as we are -- by what Umbra had to offer. First ever release of any recordings by this fascinating heavy rock group from Colorado. Label:BACK TO BEAT My Problem Is You' is the debut long player from Norway's The Wednesday Knights, containing 12 songs recorded live in the studio over a weekend. The music is on the punky side of garage rock, taking inspiration from sixties garage rock, seventies punk and pub rock, eighties garage revival, Medway garage and rhythm & blues. The Wednesday Knights play garage rock without aping current trends in garage and without trying to sound like an exact copy of a 1966 band (you'll never see them in matching suits). WEEED - GREEN ROSES PT. 1 EP Cosmic jam (OLIVE)-SAALE!Label:SIX TONNES Opaque pale olive coloured vinyl version. "The sound is a logical progression from 2021's 'Do You Fall?' album, which featured the band shifting over from heavy acid rock to more acoustic-based tracks. On this album, the band dips into trance-inducing wooden drone pieces ('Harmonium'), spiritual Popol Vuh-esque folk rock ('Song For The Homies') and even some violin-heavy cosmic jams ('What Was Lost'), the latter of which brings to mind heady Swedish prog bands like Kebnekajse. The release even ends with an uncharacteristically pastoral nylon string guitar and harmonium duet that sounds like something that might appear on a Tara Jane O'Neil record." ~Record Crates United, May 2022 LP $25 SKU:25228

WEIRDOS - Destroy All Music - 30th Anniv Ed. (70s L.A. punk)) Black vinyl -Label:BOMP The Weirdos were in many ways the greatest of L.A.'s punk bands. In early 1977 their mighty sound and singular style were the big-bang igniting the L.A. punk rock scene, as they proclaimed "we're not punks, we're weirdos from Hollyweird!". This wasn't just goofy sloganeering, this was a stance intended to distinguish them from the burgeoning punk rock scenes in New York and London. The Weirdos were not only bringing a new sound and writing teen punks anthems, they were also responsible for their graphics (posters, covers, flyers) and designed their own clothes! Their 1977 Bomp single "Destroy All Music" was a nihilistic anthem, and is now regarded as a classic, and by the time they made their mini-LP two years later they had turned into a powerful, polished band, without losing any of their outrageous attitude. "Destroy All Music - 30th Anniversary Edition " compiles the now classic 1977 EP Bomp and the 1979 "Who, What, When, Where, Why?" mini-LP in its entirety and includes previously unreleased early demos. WELDERS- OUR OWN ODDITIES 1977-81 (all-female punk pop )Label:BACHELOR The Welders were an all-female punk pop band from St. Louis, MO. Formed by four young, teenage women in 1975; they started playing shows in 1976, in one of the toughest climates to get booked for bands playing original material. The Welders bonded over their love of The Monkees, The Beatles and early glam rock. The comedy of the National Lampoon Radio Hour and the Marx Brothers were just as big of an influence. The Welders played several shows in the St. Louis metro area and eventually caught the attention of a local photographer and newspaper owner. He financed a recording session in 1979, with plans to release a four song EP. The newspaper folded before the release could happen, and all that survived was a cassette copy of the recordings. The Welders continued for a couple more years after recording the EP. They had brief line up changes, and added an organ which shifted their sound more towards a '60s garage pop sound. They were ahead of their time again, pre-dating most of the neo-garage explosion of the '80s. By 1981, the band had moved on to other interests. In 2010 BDR Records (a sub-label of Rerun, designated for St. Louis area artists) issued that previously unreleased EP. The EP was well received worldwide and has been sold out for several years. This collection includes a newly remastered and improved version of the 1979 EP tracks, along with other studio, rehearsal and live recordings. The fold-out digipack is filled with amazing photos of the band. LP $24 SKU:24971

In 1972 the guys were finalists in a talent contest organized by Melody Maker magazine. The band's album includes the side-long title-track which has to be heard to be believed. In Hans Pokora's '7001 Record Collectors Dream' guide 'Parable' has been given the maximum rarity scale rating. This reissue includes an insert with liner notes and photos. LP $25 SKU:23551

ZANTEES- ORIG 1980 ALCO TEST PRESSING Out for Kicks with EX CRAMPS DRUMMER BOMP 4009 Label:BOMP This revivalist unit was formed in October 1977 in New York City, USA. The Zantees (named after an episode of the science fiction television show The Outer Limits) drew on the raw rock ‘n’ roll styles of the 50s, particularly rockabilly music, emphasizing its primitive qualities rather than trying to update the sound. The original quartet comprised Billy Miller (vocals), Billy Statile (guitar), Paul Statile (guitar) and Jimmy Devito (drums). Devito was replaced after only one performance by Miriam Linna, ex-Cramps drummer, who remained throughout the band’s history. Although they originally had no bass player, four musicians eventually occupied that position: Chuck Forssi (whose brother Ken had been in the 60s band Love), Rob Norris (the last bass player of the Velvet Underground and later a founder member of the Bongos), James Stephanik and Mike Lewis (formerly of DMZ and the Lyres). The Zantees’ first record was ‘Francene’, a flexi-disc single released in conjunction with the US record collector magazine Goldmine, in 1979. Other singles followed, as did Out For Kicks, on the Bomp Records label in 1980, and Rhythm Bound, released on the US Midnight label in 1983. They also released a self-titled EP on Midnight in 1983. The Zantees toured the USA, as well as Scandinavian countries in the early 80s, and disbanded in December 1983. Miller, Linna and Lewis subsequently started the A-Bones, a band of similar qualities, in 1984. Miller and Linna also launched the popular independent record label Norton Records, and published their own fanzine, Kicks. LP $20 SKU:22883

THREE-HEADED DOG- Hound of Hades-- SAALE!(underground hard-rock 1973)Label:SOMMER A mysterious three-piece from Birmingham, Three-Headed Dog played underground hard-rock, clearly influenced by early Judas Priest and Wishbone Ash. Before disappearing in the mist of time, they left behind an ultra rare demo tape - recorded in 1973 - which included a couple of cover versions from Wild Turkey and Edgar Broughton Band along with self-penned material. This demo was handled to Norman Hood, manager of other Brum bands such as Necromandus and Flying Hat Band, who was involved in promoting Three-Headed Dog at the time.
