SOUTAR, RICHARD- SATORI CIRCUS -touches of hard rock, blues, and countyLabel:VOID Richard Soutar was one of the earliest artists on the east coast to write, record, press and publish his own albums. In 1976, he self-released a trippy DIY gem of a record called "Lavender Daydreams,” followed by “Episodes" in 1979. Both albums eventually saw reissue as (long sold out) LP editions on Void Records, who are now going to release Soutar's latest recordings in a band setting, Satori Circus, which has touches of hard rock, blues, and county — as handled in Soutar’s idiosyncratic way. Stated influences on the new album include the Doors and Mississippi John Hurt — and maybe much more accurately, an Adyashanti lecture: “all the crazy scenes you go through like a madman running in circles and suddenly seeing it clearly because you’re in this very quiet sacred moment that descends unexpectedly on you. Some people call it Grace, others samadhi, others Satori,” as Soutar explains."Satori Circus is a collection of songs I wrote over the last fifteen years… and some go back farther,” says Soutar. "It included sounds that aren’t being created anymore but I still love and I feel others might still want to hear. I played with sound effects more. I also had access to a mellotron and a Hammond B3 and anything else I could think of. Satori Circus is my movement into digital. It was very difficult and I struggled with my 8-track digital. It was like working with gloves on for an analogue and tape guy. There were extra steps and a lot of multi-function buttons, but there was economy too.” Limited to a 400x copy pressing on black vinyl.

CLIMAX -Gusano Meca nico (70s Bolivian power trio /psych masters) -Label:Retro Remasters Plus Bolivian rock band of the late 1960's to mid 1970's. They started as a beat, largely covers, band mixing hard rock, blues and psychedelic influences, issuing a few singles. They went through many styles during their history, later reinventing themselves as an experimental progressive rock outfit with the album "Gusano Mecánico".The Climax LP is widely regarded as a pinnacle of Bolivian prog CD $14 SKU:20731

DOUG SNYDER & BOB THOMPSON - Daily Dance (IGGY/MC5 influenced) -Label:LION After meeting at a Stooges/MC5 concert, drummer Bob Thompson and guitarist Doug Snyder met one fine day in October 1972 in Thompson’s kitchen and bashed out this set of fiery improvisations, seemingly influenced as much by Iggy’s proto-punk moves as John Coltrane’s whole "sheets of sound" ethos; the result is a mythical frenzy of distorted guitar and improvised drums, creating walls of psychedelic noise; its sound is unparalleled for its time, preceding its closest kin, New York's no-wave explosion, by a solid five years. And because of it's lack of pretensions (it was done almost innocently), the record comes off as something, dare we say, a little more "spiritual" than is the norm for such excursions. It is a singular recording, one that mainlines the classic high energy pantheon of the Velvet Underground, Stooges, Pharaoh Sanders, Sonny Sharrock, etc. while anticipating the free jazz/noise/no wave synthesis of groups that would follow in their footsteps. Thompson and Snyder get into some abstruse territory, with Snyder tearing industrial gamelan shapes from his six strings while Thompson uses the guts of his kit as the basis for new tonal alphabets. But it’s all rendered with a strong savage ethos that effortlessly equates monochord rock obliteration with the celestial freedom of Cecil Taylor/John Coltrane, et al., while establishing new territory as advanced as that attained by the most far-reaching visionaries of the rock ‘n’ roll blueprint... still hard to believe that this was recorded in 1972. A major historical unearthing, remastered from the original tapes, and beautifully packaged in a Stoughton paste-on mini-LP jacket, with an informative Obi/U-Card, and an extensive 20-page booklet of liner notes and photos. Produced in conjunction with Cantor Records, who recently made Daily Dance available on vinyl for the first time in 35 years. Includes one bonus track (not included on the LP reissue), which was intended for the original release, but left off at the last moment for time considerations. CD $10 SKU:20016

FLEUR --BOUQUET CHAMPETRE Ye ye girl)-Label:SOUNDFLAT Following her great double sider 'La Capharnaüm', yéyé-girl Fleur from the Netherlands is back with her second LP 'Bouquet Champêtre'. After her debut album and three 7" singles, the album is a fresh and charming mix of France Gall, Francoise Hady and Sylvie Vartan. 'Bouquet Champêtre' means `field bouquet': a nonchalant bunch with flowers in different colors, shapes and lengths. It's not tight and monochromatic, but wild, uneven and composed of all kinds of flowers. Written, recorded, performed and produced by Arjan Spies (The Kik, Les Robots, The Kryng) and Paul Zoontjens (The Kik, Simon Keats). The lyrics for the album were written by Lou' Szymanowski (The Psychotic Sidewinders) and Fleur. CD $19 SKU:26134

FOUR LEVELS OF EXISTENCE - ST LTd edition SAALE! ( 70’s Greek psych, 24 page booklet, rare photos best Greek psychedelic album ever recorded?? ) -Label:PACEMAKER A twenty-four page booklet includes historical background on the Greek music scene of the early 1970’s, details of the band’s past written by Alatas, rare photos of the group, as well as lyrics in both Greek and English. This second CD edition is strictly limited to 1,000 copies.Slightly revamped second edition of an album that many people consider to be the best Greek psychedelic album ever recorded, a belief that would mean that the Four Levels of Existence LP would supersede albums by artists like Axis, Aphrodite’s Child, Socrates, and George Romanos. We’ll let you decide the argument, for there is no doubt of one thing—that this is tremendous hard edged psychedelic rock, originally released on LP in a very small quantity by the private Venus label in 1976. CD $10 SKU:19944

FREEDOM HIGHWAY- MADE IN '68(Buffalo SPringfield /Byrds style) Label:RD RECORDS CD version of the unreleased album by US band Freedom Highway made in 1968. FREEDOM'S CHILDREN- Astra (70s South African psych ) Label:FRESH One of the weirdest and most-damaged records ever recorded! long lost reissue of the classic second LP (1970) by Freedom's Children, deemed by many to be their defining moment. Said Nic Martens, one of the engineers for Astra who also played organ on the album: "What many are unaware of, is that Astra was recorded from a Friday night, to the Monday morning… on a four track Studer, eight fader Siemans valve mixer, an echo plate, with some help from a Lesley amp and a modified echo box." Not only did the album capture for posterity the unique sounds, dubbed "astral music" or "acid rock," of arguably South Africa's finest band ever, but it also caught the mood of the drug-infused culture that had taken root on the southern tip of Africa in the post Woodstock love and peace era. From the driving lead of Julian's lead guitar, a perfect match for the amphetamine and speed culture of the day, to the surreal, trippy sound of the band that tuned into the growing use of LSD, Astra captured the mood and the sounds of the early 70s South African music scene. Formed at the height of the hated Apartheid era, Freedom's Children swiftly became South Africa's most innovative sons, incomparable to anyone both musically and politically during those turbulent years. Their explorative, sonic excursions pushed the musical envelope and broke down barriers, culminating in the groundbreaking Astra album, arguably one of the era's most overlooked recordings. A real complex, progressive underground album. Includes both sides of the band’s debut 1967 single (‘The Coffee Song’ b/w ‘Satisfaction) as well as the 1968 single track ‘Little Games’ as exclusive bonus tracks. Excellent liner notes continue the story of a truly important band. with bonus tracks CD $14 SKU:23324

FREEDOM’S CHILDREN- Galactic Vibes (1971S S AFRICAN HEAVY PSYCH ) W BONUS TRACKS - Label:FRESH Freedom's Children were the most important band South Africa ever produced, famous for their recipe of acid rock mixed with electronic experiments and tribal rhythms; here is the first-ever legitimate reissue of their third and last LP (Parlophone, 1971), which featured a 16-minute live for radio version of 'The Homecoming' (from their equally rare "Astra" LP)—a soaring , intense, wailing masterpiece, as well as the thud power rock of 'That Did It'; the rest of the record is often justifiably compared to Pink Floyd's "Ummagumma", with many "magic box" sounds finding their way into the mix ('Fields and Me' and 'The Crazy World of Pod' in partiular have strong Floyd elements at work); liner notes and photos have complete band history; includes an unreleased extended version of '1999' as a bonus track. The year was 1971, but the song was ‘1999’; the group was Freedom's Children, and the vibes were galactic. A many-layered album, almost to the point of being cluttered, but this is what makes it interesting. Each time you listen you can hear something new, be it a tone in Brian Davidson's wailing vocals, a riff from Julian Laxton's screaming guitar, a sequence of notes from Barry Irwin's booming bass, or the change from sticks to hands on Colin Pratley's awesome drumming. The album features some blistering, fuzz-edged guitars on the thundering ‘That Did It’ as well as the quieter and beautiful ‘Fields And Me.’ There is also the experimental keyboard piece, ‘The Crazy World Of Pod: Electronic Concerto.’ The orchestration on ‘About The Dove And His King’ adds beauty and sheen to what is a rough rock sound, due mainly to the inventive recording methods used. With layers of overdubs and no noise reduction, this method created what the sleeve notes describe as a "musical mystical mist of sound." An album that South Africans can be proud of, even thirty years later. It is a great musical achievement that can be hauled out again and again and simply marveled at. Includes an exclusive unreleased extended version of ‘1999’ as a bonus track. with bonus track CD $14 SKU:23325

FREEDOM’S CHILDREN- Battle Hymn of the Broken-Hearted 1968 (60S S AFRICAN PROG PSYCH) W bonus track Label:FRESH This is Freedom's Children's first album, recorded in 1968 in South Africa for EMI. This album has all the wonderful excesses of early progressive rock; the deep meaningful poetry, spoken words, majestic organ-playing, sound effects, choirs, long guitar solos, etc. Ramsay MacKay's unusual Scottish/South African accent guides us through this album of contrasts. From the country sounds of "Country Boy" to the Traffic-style rock of "Judas Queen," this album does not let up for a moment. It rocks, it soothes, it challenges, it even refreshes (thanks to the inclusion of an old Pepsi advertisement). A great album and a mind-blowing debut. CD $14 SKU:25184

FUSIÓN - TOP SOUL (1975 CHILEAN ROCK)Label:LION Impossible to find jazz/soul/funk monster by Fusion, issued in Chile in 1975 by ALBA (ALD-041)-a fulsome combination of funk, electric jazz, and soul, with Latin roots. Bassist Enrique Luna had lived and studied art in New York, and knew first-hand the last, avant-garde years of John Coltrane, and Miles Davis' mutation from hard bop trendsetter into an electric jazz pioneer; Matias Pizarro had appeared on the scene in the mid-60s as a young pianist of outstanding technical ability and advanced ideas. Together they formed a band around a core of Peruvian musicians, with soloists including David Estanovich (tenor sax) and Lautaro Rosas (guitar), plus a rhythm trio of Mario Lecaros (electric piano, former Village Trio), and Orlando Avendaño (drums), with guest appearances by trumpeter Daniel Lencina, and young percussionist Santiago Salas (Santa y su gente). Censorship during the Chilean military regime meant heavy restrictions on artists. Thus the Fusion album was pressed in a very limited quantity, and never legally re-issued-until now! Comes with a bi-lingual booklet which explores the story of Fusion in the context of the rich Chilean rock music scene. CD $10 SKU:26515

GANDALF THE GREY - The Grey Wizzard Am I (classic folk psych 70s) - Label:GEAR FAB 2003 release, restocked. "The classic 1972 LP from 'The Wizard' himself, Chris Wilson. The 1972 LP is considered a combination of folk and psychedelic music, and is really the culmination of many other studio efforts by Chris between 1966-1973. The bonus tracks are taken off four earlier studio efforts by The Wizard, all of which will be reissued by Gear Fab in the coming years." CD $10 SKU:10780

GANG OF FOUR- Return the Gift (70s UK punk) Label:V2 MArked promo in Card Sleeve (Reg CD, just not sealed) English post-punk group from Leeds. One of the most influential and groundbreaking bands to rise from the British punk scene in the late '70s, Gang of Four took the freedoms and possibilities presented by punk and brought them to wild and unexpected places, both musically and philosophically. (Mark Deming) CD $10 SKU:24334

GENESIS (COLUMBIA)- S/T (70s rock/psych)-Label:SONDOR This Genesis comes from Columbia, and its a shame they used such a common name, as their music is absolutely unique! Founded by Humberto Monroy (ex-Speakers) in the very early 70s, they released a bunch of lps, of which this is the second one. This same titled album, their second, was recorded in March 1974 and released by Famoso (a Codiscos sub-label). Unusual and charming sound in the folk, rock & psychedelic veins, but always with a wonderful Andinean folk feel. Most of the tracks are written by Humberto but the more famous number included on the album, which received a lot of radio airplay in Columbia at the time, was a chilling cover of "Como decirte cuanto te amo" by Cat Stevens. Also, the psychedelic sounding "Don Simon" was probably their major success.. This is the first ever reissue , and comes with a nice booklet w/linernotes and pictures, and great remastered sound. CD $14 SKU:25673

GEORGE THOROGOOD AND THE DESTROYERS-JEWEL CASE 2013- Label:ROUNDER NOTE: NOT SEALED Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP. "high-energy boogie-blues" sound CD $10 SKU:26253

GREEN - ST plus bonus tracks (Chicago 80s glam power pop) -Label:LION Seven bonus tracks, including the CD debut of the band’s 1984 EP "The Name of This Band is Green." Printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. "Their (first) 45 had two absolute masterpieces: ‘Gotta Getta Record Out,’ which yelps and shouts along like the best of the old Bongos or Jam or Feelies or somebody, and ‘I Don’t Want To Say No,’ which is the sort of white Motown that assholes like the Replacments could never get right. This is not a punk record, except perhaps in spirit, but it isn’t any worse for that."—Steve Albini CD $10 SKU:14882

HOJAS-MIS SUENOS PIDEN ( Uruguayan 60s Psych/Powerpop Beatles style ) SAALE!-Label:LION Hojas (meaning The Leaves), like Limonada, emerged from the late 60’s-early 70’s Uruguayan rock scene.A melodic rock/powerpop outfit who wrote excellent psychy songs influenced by The Beatles and Badfinger. CD $10 SKU:23499

IMPI-ST (Rare sole 1971 album by African influenced prog rock band)Label:FRESH Not much information out there about this rare one-off 1971 album (released by CBS back in the day); African influenced progressive rock, by some or all of the members of the South African band the Bats. There are the occasional flashes of pastoral flute/pennywhistle tinged folk mixed with psych guitar, jazz rock brass, soulful vocals and thundering percussion. Comparisons with Vertigo bands Jade Warrior, early Gravy Train and Assegai and bands like Chicago and Greatest Show on Earth. As for the Bats: It all started in 1964 when Eddie Eckstein, Paul Ditchfield, Pete Clifford and the late Barry Jarman, burst onto the local scene and became, to many ardent followers, South Africa's answer to the Beatles. They toured for more than a year (1966) in the UK, sharing the stage with the Kinks, the Troggs, the Zombies, etc. They had a string of successful singles and LPs on CBS, before going through the temporary identity crisis that resulted in the Impi album CD $14 SKU:20404

ITHACA- Game For All Who Know ( Uruguayan 70s rare home recordings folk psych ) Label:LION 16 page booklet and bonus tracks. Incredibly good and extremely rare home recordings from psychedelic-folk masters Peter Howell and John Ferdinando, that had made the AGINCOURT album two years earlier. For the first time from the original master tapes! The addition of three previously unreleased bonus tracks is cause for much rejoicing! The sixteen-page booklet has lengthy band history, lyrics, and rare photos CD $10 SKU:23500

JARDINE- Look in the Window( lost jewel of late-1960's UK psych)Label:LION Jardine’s album was recorded in three glorious weeks in June 1969, at Sounds Aquarian Studios, a stone’s throw from that justifiably famous fashion hub, Carnaby Street. The sessions were fun. Polydor was supposed to release the album. Musicians dropped in to say "hello" and ended up on the record (uncredited)—among them Peter Frampton, Andrew "Andy" Bown (Herd and Status Quo), and Brian Appleyard (drummer from East of Eden). Singer Mickey Cox had been in Robert Plant’s pre-Led Zeppelin group The Band of Joy—it was Cox, in fact, who became their singer when Plant left the band. But suddenly, thanks to band management problems, the LP was shelved. Keith Law, who had written all of the songs, joined Velvett Fogg for their only album, and Jardine was forgotten. Now, forty years later, you can be among the first to discover the brooding excellence of these tracks, music both strange and sinister, with moments of fragile beauty. There are some very pretty songs here (haunting melodies abound), but there is no escaping the dark side of life (‘Masochists of Strangulation,’ ‘Execution of the Child,’ and monumental dirge ‘Blackbirds of Jardine’, which tells of self-same birds, and the fact that they will “destroy you, and leave you pain, pain, pain”), songs perhaps more akin to the band Comus than to anything else we have encountered from the psychedelic era. There are also heavy guitar solos, churning organ, flute, and flowing sitar, for good measure. A 16-page booklet includes a band history lyrics, and comments on the songs by Keith Law. A lost jewel of late-1960's UK psychedelia, from a short-lived but charismatic band! CD $10 SKU:10134

NEIL YOUNG AND CRAZY HORSE AT THE FILLMORE 1970 - DIGIPAK- Label:REPRISE NOTE: NOT SEALED, MINT DISC. Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP . The first release of Neil Young's archive performance series.
Amazon.com For years, fans of Neil Young and Crazy Horse have been waiting for an official chance to hear Crazy Horse live with original leader Danny Whitten, the insanely talented guitarist who died of a heroin overdose in late 1972, inspiring Tonight's the Night. Tuned-in fans have been awaiting this very set for at least a dozen years, as it was originally to be tacked onto the end of a Decade-style triple CD of outtakes. Thankfully, this well-recorded live set from the infamous Fillmore East was well worth the wait. Here are scorching, extended takes of "Down by the River," "Winterlong," and "Cowgirl in the Sand," each propelled by guitar interplay so delightful you have to keep rewinding to hear it again. In fact, bits of it seem to prefigure the ways that Richard Lloyd and Tom Verlaine would feed off each other in the band Television, only with less of a sweet edge. But the world doesn't need any more arguments that Young was a proto-punk; what the world does need is at least a dozen more releases from Neil's archives! And hopefully, with this awesome live album, the floodgates have truly been opened and there are many more to come, in the vein of Dylan's Bootleg series. This disc is worth it alone for the version of "Wondering," a tune not officially recorded until many years later in Neil's weird '80s rockabilly phase. --Mike McGonigal CD $10 SKU:26625

ODYSSEY- Live at Levittown Memorial Auditorium: 1974- Label:LION A live recording that was never really meant to be, recorded by Odyssey’s sound engineer on a portable cassette recorder, and recently unearthed! “Live at Levittown” is the only document of Odyssey as they were in their progressive phase, just before Fred Callan and sometime Odyssey keyboardist Tom Doncourt recorded their legendary album as Cathedral. Bonus tracks include three “basement recordings” from the “Setting Forth” era—two untitled originals that never made the album, plus the band’s version of "Whiter Shade of Pale". These three tracks have been salvaged as well as possible from the cassette that is the only recorded evidence of these songs. Important note: this disc is not audiophile quality sound! despite our best efforts, it’s rough sounding, but we think that you’ll find it well worth listening to, despite the source limitations. Twelve-page booklet has a continuation of the Odyssey story by band leader Vinny Kusy, as well as rare photos from his own archive. CD $10 SKU:19980

PSYCHEDELIC MOODS PART 2 - Sunset Love & Inner Sanctum Journey Thru Inner Space)Label:CICADELIC After releasing the “Psychedelic Moods” album, in October of 1966, Mark Barkan envisioned another psychedelic album for his next release. It was to be performed by a Greenwich Village band called “Inner Sanctum”. The theme of the album was to be a psychedelic journey into the various psyches of the mind. The trip started with a journey into the past (The House Of Yesterday) then covered the inner workings of the mind (ID) then the descent into madness (Hydro Pyro) hallucination (Purple Floating) and finally culminating in nirvana (Snow Petals). Unfortunately, Barkan was unable to find a record company willing to lease the masters and so they languished for decades unreleased. Now, at long last the masters for this aborted album are mixed from the original four track tapes and forty plus years later the psychedelic sounds of “Inner Sanctum” are now ready, willing, and able to blow your mind. Sunset Love” was comprised of band members from New Mexico and Texas. In the fall of 1968, thirteen original songs and two covers were recorded for a potential album, but nothing was ever released. “Sunset Love’s” lush harmonies, soaring vocals, superior song writing, and flower power consciousness pervaded their songs with a depth and quality unheard of from most 60s’ bands. While their sound can be compared to such bands as “The Mamas and The Papas”, “The Peanut Butter Conspiracy”, “Spanky and Our Gang”, and “The Love Exchange”, “Sunset Love” had their own inimitable style that transcended a generic stereo-type. Had Sunset Love released their album in the 60’s, there is no doubt it would have been an instant rarity of excellence. The “Sunset Love” tapes are sourced from the original stereo versions and reveal the great harmonies and surrealistic lyrics of an undeservedly overlooked and forgotten band from the late 60’ CD $10 SKU:12399

QUINTAL DE CLOROFILA- O Mistério Dos Quintais (1983 Argentine psych folk )Label:DISCOS MARIPOSA Only album by psychedelic folk duo formed by brothers Dimitri and Negendre Arbo, part of a set of folk groups from Brasil comprised of “gaúchos” (native country people); Quintal de Clorofila is one of the few bands of this sort who got to make a record, which was released by the independent label Bobby Som in 1983. For this LP, Quintal de Clorofila recorded their own compositions, with lyrics by their brother, the poet Antônio Carlos Arbo. According to Dimitri Arbo, the band mixed rock, medieval music, Afro, oriental and Latin rhythms... a blend of music they dubbed "Viking Rock" (not sure why). It’s a complex sound to be sure, with tremendous depth and abundant inspiration evident throughout all of the album’s atmospheric songs. An album much beloved by Hans Pokora—and now by us. Two alternate versions of songs from the album are included as bonus tracks CD $10 SKU:20151

TONE FLOAT - Musik Von Tone Float (Texas psych/Krautrock inspired)-Label:TIMOTHYS BRAIN A sonic portfolio of the Texas psych/Krautrock inspired scene it represents, but also an homage to the heavily lysergic first Kraftwerk album under the name Organisation; as the rave review in Alternative Press rightly pointed out, "words cannot do justice to the utterly outlandish studio experiments Tone Float achieve here." The band hibernated until 1996 when they reunited again for a live concert. The chemistry was still there so they entered a recording studio and recorded in just 18 hours their first ever album, “Underground and Beyond”, featuring songs written in 1971-72. Their line-up included two flute players plus bass, drums and the killer lead guitar of Thore Engen. Originally released in 1997 as a picture disc LP, here’s the first ever standard LP reissue. OZ KNOZZ Live Mix( US 70s private press hard rock/prog)Label:ShroomAngel Records/Ozone •First time release for these official rare professional live recordings•Limited pressing vinyl issue, mixed from the original multi-track reelsPure and original Texas hard rock/progressive rock: red-hot wah-wah blasting guitars, heavy Hammond keyboards accented with Moogs and other synthesizers, with rock-solid bottom end, and furious, slightly jazzy drums. Formed in 1969 in Houston, TX, Oz Knozz's 1975 debut LP, “Ruff Mix," has become a hot property on the collector’s circuit because, quite simply, the album is killer. People have wondered if there was anything more from Oz Knozz? Well, for forty-five years a handful of tapes sat in a warehouse, having survived a fire, the tape boxes even bearing singe marks as their battle scars. It is from these tapes that this live album is now born — and all we can say is that if you love the studio album, you are in for a special treat. The material here spans the years 1974-1979, and apart from the first track on side A, all are mixed from the original multi-track reels. As on “Ruff Mix,” the three-part 'Doodley Squat’ suite features heavy dual keyboard parts and crunchy guitars and expressive vocals; the result is a terrific Hard Prog track with lot of energy. Vocals are expressive and sit nicely atop the progressive (sometimes AOR-tinged) hard rock. We’re thrilled to be a part of the absolute debut of these stellar live recordings. A wild blast of flamethrower rock! LP $24 SKU:24301
