WAREHOUSE FINDS BLOWOUT!

It’s taken me a few decades, ha ha but I finally got around to going thru some boxes of weird singles that were languishing in the legendary Bomp warehouse! Lotsa Bomp and Voxx product plus some crazy stuff from Greg Shaw’s collection, like some flexi discs and things like that.

I also got around to tweaking some of the existing listings, I had failed to note the huge importance of what size hole and what color the labels were, silly me. Anyway, we’re doing a big singles blowout this time around, so check the ones listed below AND our singles section here for more more more. Lower prices and extra info added to a lot of them.

Also just in, a nice restock from our friends at GEAR FAB, purveyors of 60s and 70s reissues, most at the $10 price point you love so much.

And don’t forget our BUNDLES and BOX SET section, lots of autographed copies and great deals on all kinds of goodies.

Happy shopping guys, thanks for all,
Suzy Shaw

STIV BATORS AND THE DEAD BOYS-Not That WAy Any MoreLabel:PHANTOM Very rare!
Originally 800 copies were pressed but 500 were lost on the way to Bomp Records in Los Angeles via ship. Only 300 copies remained. Sleeve states "Stiv Bators and the Dead Boys" although Stiv was the only former Dead Boy on this record.
From label owner: "The reason it was released as by Stiv Bators And The Dead Boys, is because an Aussie promoter was going to tour the band here, but he wouldn't take the risk of doing so without the Dead Boys name tagged on - thus Stiv agreed to tour under that name...and we agreed to release this 45 on the back of the tour. On the very SAME day as this was released [20 July 1980] the promoter called us to say he'd decided to pull out of the tour. And thus, the likelihood of us selling a 45 that had already been out here on import, was minimal. I spoke to Greg Shaw (2) about the whole scenario and he agreed to buy 500 of the 800 run we pressed, at cost price admittedly, to alleviate our perceived 'burden'. Those 500 were lost in transit to the U.S., via ship, and have never surfaced. Richard Allen, who a few years later came up with most of the iconic early 100% Mambo surfwear designs - farting dog, etc - designed the cover of this 45 - NOT that he's credited." 45 RPM $75 SKU:25579

MANKEY, EARL- - Mau Mau /Crazy orig 1978 pressing! w pic slv.Label:BOMP/Exhibit J Orig pressing of BOMP spinoff label, Exhibit J) rare by legendary producer “ In this one short song, there is enough pure-pop majesty to fill your week's quota of such grand music. Earle Mankey was a founding member of the odd new-wave 80's band, Sparks. Mankey has some serious production credits to his name too, including Concrete Blonde's first album.
"Mau Mau" begins with a jungle drum beat and a chorus of low voiced fellows singing "Ugachukka, ugachukka" over and over again. The song makes an abrupt left turn when Mankey begins singing about an African "...who can take his love any way he can, by the point of spear, by the point of knife" in his distant pop voice over a tinkley synth sound. Mankey builds layer upon layer in the chorus, with guitars ultimately building to a "Baba O'Rielly" guitar riff. You don't find sublime pop-rock like this everyday, but when you do, it's quite a treat. -- Doug Cornell, 45 RPM $5 SKU:25177

CRYSTAL SYPHON- FAMILY EVIL/ ELEPHANT BALL (SF 60s)Label:GEAR FAB Comes in an old-style “tip-on” jacket with a digital download. Plying their trade in the fertile San Francisco scene of the late '60s, Crystal Syphon's name was only known to aficionados through viewing copies of old SF gig posters and through the index of bands at the back of Ralph Gleason's book on the rise of Jefferson Airplane. Then both their studio and live 1967-1969 archival recordings were discovered that replaced the imagination with true grooves in 2012 and 2015 with the release of 2 LPs on Roaratorio Records. Trying to find comparison with other Bay area bands from that era has proven a bit fruitless as they don't specifically evoke any of the heavy hitters of the era. They have a bit of a dreamy, stoned vibe with some great harmonies and some have compared their style to Quicksilver Messenger Service (John Cipollina was their idol!!) as well as H.P. Lovecraft. As with so many bands of the era, the draft, time and declining fortunes signaled the end of the band. There is some great guitar work alongside the Farfisa organ in the extended jams, and fans of the west-coast sound should delight in these recordings. CD $14 SKU:23863

DAVID - ST (1969 psych pop Airplane style)- Label:GEAR FAB Canadian band David released this self-titled psychedelic pop album in 1969. Half of Fox's tapes were made at the infamous Glenn Holly Studio, owned and operated by Phil Polemini, where may famous musicians would hide away to record, late into the morning hours. This is the very studio where Phil's friend and legendary guitarist Tommy Bolin jammed endlessly from 1972 through 1976. CD $10 SKU:19649

GABBARD, ANDY - Fluff - LTD ed of 150 PINK VINYL (BUFFALO KILLERS- Modern Grunge Fuzz Pop with 60’s aura ) -Label:ALIVE Brimming with creativity, Fluff by Andy Gabbard, his debut release as a solo artist on Alive Naturalsound, isn't moving beyond what Andy has done, or will continue to do with Buffalo Killers. Sometimes, ultimately, you find yourself with extra moments and more ideas than one band can develop. So naturally, it made perfect sense to give that inward creative need an outlet. Fluff is the end result.

Cut in one 12-hour studio session, Andy took on the full responsibility of doing a solo album literally. He played every instrument and wrote everything you hear. Reviving an established relationship with Alive Records, on Fluff you can hear the deeply-solid effects of the grunge genre and mid-'90s 'alternative music' in a sonic gestalt. Exhibiting characteristics of fairly recent genres, as well as some classics that surrounded him during his youth, Fluff breaks barriers of seemingly comfortable, unthreatening music cultivating a physical embodiment of Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, latter Beatles and even Brian Wilson!

Fluff defines Andy's environment, a creative environment... an environment of ultra-dimensional levels. The days of solo albums being released due to further 'artistic development' past a bands catalog of hits, are over. Buffalo Killers continue their successful run and now, it's not running alone. Fluff is the start of something great and fathers the true sonic beauty and the relative nature of one single person and their soundtrack of nearly unending smiles in a sea of tumultuous frowns. - Shawn Abnoxious LP $10 SKU:16540

GILA - Free Electric Sound (1971 psych rock masterpiece) w 20 page deluxe booklet lp size , NUMBERED, GATEFOLD COVER Label:GARDEN OF DELIGHTS (Germany): Gila is probably the GOD label's best or second-best known artist. And deservedly so... their eponymous 1971 debut album (known as 'Free Electric Sound') is a psychedelic rock masterpiece. The same foursome (fronted by guitarist/vocalist Conny Veit, who later had a stint with Guru Guru) then recorded a concert for radio, broadcast on 26 Feb 1972. This was subsequently edited down to 43 minutes—adly that is all that still exists of the show. Released here as "Night Works," it captures a different dimension of the band in a live setting. On tracks like ‘Braintwist’ and the wonderfully cosmic ‘Gila Symphony,’ the group comes across much like the Doors doing their own “Space Ritual.” However, the overall mix of textures ends up sounding very Germanic in the end; for example, the outstanding ‘Trampelpfad’ simply couldn't have been created by an American group. The source tape isn't perfect (a few noticeable dropouts now and again) but we’re glad that the magnificence of this single performance is still preserved. All of the tracks included here are unique to “Night Works,” making it a true second album by the band’s original lineup. Cover artwork was painted by Gila guitarist Conny Veit himself. The 12-page LP-sized booklet contains an extremely elaborate history of the band in German, English and Swedish, a very meticulous discography, numerous cover and label repros, many so far unseen Gila photographs, leaving nothing left to be desired. Limited edition of 1000 numbered LPs. LP $30 SKU:20882

GOLIATH - ST (1970First album by US hard-rock band )Label:GUERSSEN First album by US hard-rock band GOLIATH (of Hot Rock & Thunder fame), recorded in 1970 but never released at the time. Goliath was formed in 1969 when the Sons of Sound, Kicks and the XL’s dissolved. They were: Steve Peters (drums), Bill Peters (bass), Paul “Doug” (the Golden Throat) Mason (Hammond B3 Organ), George “Charlie” Egy, (lead vocals), and George Phelps (guitar). In 1970 they entered Allen-Martin Studios in Louisville, KY and registered what should have been their first album. The tapes remained unreleased until the Gear Fab label recovered them and did a CD edition in 2009. This is classic hard-rock with psych & prog touches, prominent Hammond organ, hard guitar, melodic vocals… *First ever vinyl edition. *Master tape sound and insert with liner notes & photos. GOOD MISSIONARIES-Pylons (long lost 80s post punk classic)Label:LION /COLOR TAPES Limited edition of 500 copies . Includes poster insert with archive band photos and slee• The hipness and success of London punk-explosion photocopy fanzine Sniffin’ Glue was almost entirely due to the irreverent, pugnacious sincerity of its founder/spark-plug Mark Perry. That Perry should form a band (Alternative TV) seemed a natural progression; that it was any good at all a surprise; that it maintained a stance utterly disdainful of compromise a small miracle.”The Good Missionaries emerged, phoenix-like, from the ashes of Alternative TV (ATV). They released one live album “Fire From Heaven,” before ATV founder Mark Perry left. Ex-ATV guitarist/vocalist Dave George and bassist Keith Rodway continued the band, with several line-up changes during those days. The Good Missionaries toured and gigged with such bands as The Fall, The Pop Group, Crass, Scritti Politti, Delta Five, Poison Girls, Nik Turner’s Inner City Unit and The Transmitters. Which in retrospect makes sense, as their post-punk/dub/experimental inclinations dovetails perfectly with the music those more storied bands (more successful bands) were making at the time. The Good Missionaries released several singles on their own Unnormality label, before splitting in 1982. LP $21 SKU:25096

GRAVEDIGGER V - All Black & Hairy (60 PEBBLES style Classic cave garage) BLUE Label:VOXX 1984 RECORDING. ORIGINAL RAINBO PRESSING. The one proper album the band released in its lifetime, All Black and Hairy is both perfectly named and perfectly performed -- if it's nothing but a re - All Black & Hairy LTD ED of 150 CLEAR BLUE VINYL! (60 style Classic cave garage ) -vivalist approach at heart, it's such a damn entertaining one that there's no cause for complaint. With its title track taken from the appropriately goonball back catalog of Screamin' Lord Sutch and its general snot-mouthed attitude from every last Nuggets and Pebbles selection ever, about the only thing missing are the lava lamps and garage stink. Saying the band uses the right combination of fuzztone guitars and echo and heavy frug rhythms is a bit like saying the sky is blue -- it's just one of those things to be expected -- but the sheer energy and abandon present keep everything from simply retracing the past to no point. Leighton's credit is for "lead screaming," and that about sums it up -- he's not so much singing as pulling off the ultimate teen-wannabe-Mick Jagger performance, only even more aggressively snotty. Ted Friedman's lead guitar solos with the right rave-up spirit and John Hanrattie keeps the core melodies going, while the Tom Ward/David Anderson rhythm section aims to get rears shaking instead of sitting. The album is half split between inspired originals (check out the concluding "Stoneage Stomp") and actual songs from the time, the latter resulting in fun versions of tracks like the Uncalled For's "Do Like Me" and Larry & the Bluenotes' "Night of the Phantom." About the only thing missing is the original studio recording of the band's best number, "It's Spooky," but anyone wanting a quick blast of '60s punk thrills filtered through later years could do much worse than to dig this one up. HEAD -ST ( 1992-Obscure 60s style psych Creem, Led Zep style ) last copies - Label:VOXX ORIGINAL PRESSING. Unfairly, this album has always remained obscure, even among Voxx releases. Perhaps this is due to their style, which is freeform and creative, rather than the formulaic approach audiences seem to prefer. With influences ranging from Cream to Led Zep to little-known British bands like July, Head blew a lot of minds in Los Angeles in the early '90s with their light show and extended trip-jams. For their album debut, they chose a different approach: using all the studio tricks at their command to make a finely-crafted collage of sounds designed to flow through a listener's most spaced-out headphone session. But this long album also includes most of their live freakout favorites, and there are frequent moments of sublime ensemble playing. [12/92] Greg Shaw LP $15 SKU:22115

HELLMET -Judgement Day (1970 doom-laden metal psych masterpiece)Label:SEELIE COURT Thought to be lost forever, Hellmet's legendary 1970 LP is the proto-metal find of the century. Long rumoured to exist amongst hardcore prog collectors, it used to be considered as the missing VO5 Vertigo cata!ogue number. In 1970, two acetates were cut at Oak studios (a 12” and a 7”) and then promptly lost, and those who knew of its rumoured existence decided it was mere myth or permanently lost or destroyed. But in 2021, this doom-laden metal psych masterpiece finally emerges from the Stygian depths of prog legend. Hellmet's sole lp is the ultimate incarnation of Leviathan and the Mike Stuart Span, and on this record, they hit a peak — almost like a raw undergound Led Zep 1 with elements of Cream. Hellmet's sound is characterised by a howling lead guitar tonally similar to High Tide but played in a heavy blues psych style; at times Steve Day appears to be wrestling a demonically possessed lead into submission. Three tracks are classic heavy prog proto-metal, then ‘Trust' gets into 'Dazed and Confused’ territory with its violent tale of resisting torture under the Inquisition; the dark epic 'Judgement Day' closes side one, a tale of heroin addiction and facing one's maker in an inevitable slide towards alienation and death. The song has astonishingly ornate and complex almost baroque guitar playing, with exquisite and beautiful passages, and treads a mournful path with an atmosphere akin to ‘Nothing Else Matters’ by Metallica. The LP benefits from repeat playing: it is heavy, but also deep, and has a vibe that combines anger with melancholia. A significant and historic find, if you ache for more true vintage Heavy Prog. HONEST JOHN - SAILOR (Unreleased underground Texas hard rock from 1975)-Label:SHROOMANGEL (USA) Unreleased underground Texas hard rock from 1975! First release anywhere, anytime! Heavy grooves with dense, layered guitars and Deep Purple/Black Sabbath style vocals from bassist T.J. Sanders. Honest John was a band that meant business at a time when most bands were softening their sound for radio. Not these guys! Honest John did release an extremely rare 7" on the Baron label (BRN45006): slinky track 'Brighter Day' b/w the chunky and hard driving 'Face the Crowd'); but that was all that ever emerged from the sessions until now. It was in fact all the world knew of Honest John, aside from folks blown away by hearing them on tour in Texas playing frat parties, bars, military bases, and sleazy rock clubs in the early 1970's. Honest John's "Sailor" is a living, breathing tribute to Ottis Coleman, who should have long ago been celebrated as a true Texas guitar great. Features Coleman's stellar guitar and engineered by future Mojave Audio honcho and key figure in 1970's rock in Houston, Dusty Wakeman. Coleman and Wakeman both later joined Houston blues rockers Buzz Bone, which featured Dan Mitchell and Tom Moore post-Moving Sidewalks. But it has always been the Honest John sessions that they longed to have released., at long long last. A small press run of 500x copies, housed in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket, sourced from original master tapes. HOOKER- Rock and Roll (Ltd ed Houston 1978 blues guitar) ltd color vinyl - Label:SHROOMANGEL Previously unreleased Houston hard rock band from the late 70’s with that ripping Texas twin guitar sound. This album was taken from sessions recorded in 1978, painstakingly unearthed, edited and remastered for proper release. On multi colored vinyl, limited to 500 copies! Hooker had been around in various configurations since 1972. First recordings began in 1974 at Rampart Studios under the direction of studio engineer Jeff Wells. Those early demos featured Hooker as a three piece hard rock/blues rock band, it wasnt until later that they began to take a decidedly heavier approach in sound and style. With the addition of Robert Hampton in place of Tim Cannon on lead/rhythm guitar, the band began to find their direction and hit the clubs hard. Influenced by bands such as Tin House, Ted Nugent, and Black Oak Arkansas, Hooker had it all on stage - flash, great songs, lots of groupies, and of course all the best drugs! Well, that couldnt last, and the band called it a day in 1983 when the lifestyle finally caught up to David Howland. The other members soldiered on in various reconstructed versions of Hooker, with varying degrees of success. The short lived post Hooker band Stallions was a highlight, with all the same elements of Hooker including three of the four members. Eventually, David would rejoin the band and Stallions became Hooker for all intents and purposes. Unfortunately, the music world had changed too dramatically since the days when a band could play the kind of loud, aggressive, dual guitar riff-rock that Hooker so convincingly played. This record represents the pinnacle of the band, the long lost 1978 Inergi Studios recordings that never saw official release all those years ago. This album is the one that should have come out in 1978. Better late than never. LP $28 SKU:13814

HOPKINS,RICH& the Luminarios - Enchanted Rock country covers by the Gosdin Brothers and Patty Smith & a new original song that sounds very Raspberry–esque-)Label:SAN JACINTO Enchanted Rock was recorded live at Halversonics Studio in Austin, Texas in two days and mixed in one day. What makes this album different is there is a mix of country covers by the Gosdin Brothers and Patty Smith to a new original song that sounds very Raspberry-esque (Nobody Told You) to acoustic renditions of some of Hopkins' older songs like Paraguay and Dark Side of the Spoon. This album captures the band in a new light. The CD version of this release contains two additional tracks LP $19 SKU:25326
