RESTOCKS, DEALS AND REMINDERS

DINO & MONTEVIDEO BLUES - ST (70s Uruguay 32-page booklet is packed with photos, detailed band history, and lyrics) - Label:LION The one and only album by Dino & Montevideo Blues (Macondo GAM 551, 1972) deserves to be a serious contender as one of the most important, and as it happens, most grooving, records ever released in Uruguay. But there is another reason that the album has attained exalted status: the incisive power of the lyrics, which are all the more impressive considering the national turmoil out of which they were created. Montevideo Blues was founded by Uruguayan song-writing legend Gastn "Dino" Ciarlo as a way to fuse the rawness of rock music with obscure native Uruguayan rhythms like malambo, milonga and chamarrita-a logical direction to pursue after Dino had attempted pop/candombe fusions in his solo recordings. "At the time, we were revolutionary and looking for change," said Dino. Montevideo Blues demonstrated an unyielding and combative attitude. During live shows in 1971, Dino often criticized the government-a level of political commitment reflected in the lyrics of the songs, some of the most radical ever set to music. Eduardo Mateo, the sacred monster of modern Uruguayan music, was succinct: "You have decided to prune the tree," he said to Dino. The album opens with one of Dinos most famous songs Milonga de Pelo Largo (Milonga of the Long Hair), a sinuous song transformed by the arrival of the dictatorship into a hymn of Uruguayan popular resistance. The rest of the album tracks have an edgy, atonal quality, with terrific unconventional angular guitar and a kind of ragged glory, all driven along by insistent grooving rhythms, whether from native drums or the clicking of drumsticks. Bonus tracks include beat-rockers Sendero de Rosas and Rubio es el color, from the rare "La Juventud" compilation album, as well as both sides of Dinos two early singles for RCA Vik. A 32-page booklet is packed with photos, detailed band history, and lyrics for this important Uruguayan band. CD $10 SKU:6892

EDEN ROSE - On the Way to Eden (1970 PSYCH SPACE ROCK) Label:PACEMAKER It might be easy to think of Eden Rose as simply a first version of famed French progressive band Sandrose. Both bands had the same musicians; both existed at nearly the same moment in time (c. 1970). But Eden Rose is now seen, quite rightly, as something unique, a chimera from the misty past, a time during which the winds of change were blowing on the fixed universe of music. Rules were blown away, stagnant structures were swept aside, and musical conventions emancipated, this freshness and spontaneity the essence of a style that hadn’t yet been formalised..CD $10 SKU:19929

FALCO TAV LORE AND TESTAMENT Vol 11 Sugar Ditch Revisited/The Shake Rag DBL CDLabel:STAG-O-LEE (GERMANY) The Tav Falco & Panther Burns reissue/remaster series, part two. This one contains the Sugar Ditch Revisited EP (1985) and The Shake Rag EP (1986). Plus a previously-unreleased 11-song/45 minute live show from the Messepalast Vienna from 1989. Pristine recording by the ORF! Sugar Ditch Revisited -- a modest album with a huge cast of the crème of Memphis musicians joining Panther Burns. Jim Dickinson produced the record alongside Roland James, pioneer guitarist on the early Jerry Lee Lewis sides, twirling the knobs at the control board. This record featured two songs Dickinson had found on tapes discarded by Stax during the last days of the studio's existence. Sir Mac Rice an ex-Falcon penned "Tina, The Go Go Queen" and "Money Talks." For these numbers Andrew Love and Ben Cauley were brought in from the Memphis Horns to add that lush and signature lilt of the laid-back "Memphis sound." Alex Chilton played his new guitar -- a rusty Mosrite, the bassist Rene Coman came up from New Orleans for the sessions, Ross Johnson whipped the skins, and a bevy of girlfriends sang backing vocals. Shake Rag -- Panther Burns recorded this dark and lugubrious mini-album at the Sam Phillips Recording Service in Memphis in 1986. While this was the boom period for lavish alternative, new wave, and no wave music productions, there were only three stalwarts responsible for this record: Jim Dickinson producer, keyboardist, guitarist, Ross Johnson on percussion, and Tav Falco on guitar and voice. There is a raw primitivism howling from these tracks and an unbridled intensity not heard from the band in recorded form since their first record Behind the Magnolia Curtain. Live at Messepalast is a collection of songs cut from a wild and wooly two-hour show on Panther Burns' second tour of Europe in 1989. ORF (Austrian National Radio) was there recording the whole mess in ultra high-fidelity, and the result is what you will hear on this record. Two CDs in 12" replica sleeves, the live show is added to the Shake Rag EP. Includes a 32-page booklet featuring extensive liner notes by Tav Falco himself. Packaged in a special deluxe wraparound wallet sleeve. CD $15 SKU:17747

FALCO'S, TAV - Wild & Exotic World of Musical Obscurities-Label:STAG-O-LEE (GERMANY) Tav Falco, the Memphis legend (of Panther Burns fame) compiled 25 of his favorite tunes from '50s rockabilly to tangos, waltzes & other wonderful obscurities. Songs he loves, songs he covered with Panther Burns, songs that influenced him, thus shedding much light upon the music that incessantly ignites Falco's muse. This is a wild and wonderful ride. A Back to Mine-style compilation that will open your ears. Double vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with extensive liner notes by the maestro himself. CD comes with a 20-page booklet. Artists include: The Johnny Burnette Trio, Don Willis, Bobby Lee, Allen Page, Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, Jimmy Lloyd, Benny Joy, Alexander Princes, Bachicha Bianco, Anton Karas, Los Indios Tacunau, Carlos Di Sarli, Orchestra Juan D'Arienzo, Osvaldo Pugliese, Elmore James, Bobby Blue Bland, Chet Baker, Fred Buscaglione, Martin Denny, Dion & The Belmonts, Shorty Rogers, Charlie Feathers, and Alex Chilton. SUMMER TURNS TO AUTUMN - Ember Rock, Vol. 2 (RARE 60S PSYCH& PROG)-Label:FANTASTIC VOYAGE British indie label Ember released a number of rock albums and singles between 1969 and 1972, which today are much sought after by collectors of psychedelic, progressive and folk rock sounds. Many of the best tracks from these are gathered on “Summer Turns To Autumn”. Foremost among the artists compiled here is progressive rock band Blonde On Blonde, represented by tracks from both of their Ember albums. Fantastic Voyage has salvaged two tracks from Blue Beard s album. An early songwriting/production project for Bob Welch, who next surfaced in Fleetwood Mac, the album was only released in Italy, but the single ‘Sly Willy’ was more widely available and is highly prized by collectors of funky rock. Tyrannosaurus Rex-style acoustic hippy duo Knocker Jungle and progressive folk group 9.30 Fly each managed one now highly collectable long player for the label. The remainder of the material ranges from the fuzzy psychedelic rock of Canadians The Dorians and the melodic folk rock of Paddy Maguire, backed by heavy friends Steve Winwood and Jerry Donahue (of Fotheringay), to the soul-rock fusion of Milt Matthews Inc, here interpreting a Blind Faith song, and a previously unissued folk rock rendition of ‘East Virginia’ by Polly Niles. “Summer Turns To Autumn” complement Fantastic Voyage’s existing, highly popular compilations of Ember Beat and Ember Pop, with no duplication of tracks. Nice shrink-wrapped slip-case packaging. COMP CD $10 SKU:19046

SUNDAY SUNSHINE- The World of SNB Records (60s Pop Psych) -Label:RPM A unique 60s collection. Remastered from original CBS held SNB tapes, includes very rare singles. Essential for pop psych and similar collectors. One of the movers and shakers of the music biz in the modern era has been Simon Napier Bell, and during 1968-1969 he put his talents into A&R-ing his own label. Fresh from managing The Yardbirds, Johns Children and co-authoring for Dusty Springfield, and with backing from CBS, SNB picked up on the hip pop world flowing through London at the time. It is an extraordinary assortment from which we have distilled the most potent exotic, baroque and pop psych elements. All have high production values with the likes of the talented Ian Green as arranger. As you would expect most of the singles are today very rare, and have not been reissued or released on CD. That said there is growing awareness of the music from numerous quarters, with pick up from internet radio stations to magazines, and the label has attained a cult standing. First time reissue, first time on CD. A unique 60s collection. Remastered from original CBS held SNB tapes, includes very rare singles. Essential for pop psych and similar collectors." COMP CD $10 SKU:9137

SWEET SURRENDER - EMBER POP (OBSCURE 70S) Label:FANTASTIC VOYAGE Collectors will cherish the recordings of the more obscure artists. From Record Collector: “As a follow-up to Rainy Day Mind, Fantastic Voyage’s second trawl through the Ember label’s pop archives proves that bantamweights can sometimes conjure forth a more evocative picture of a given era than the big hitters. Sweet Surrender comes across like a Tony Blackburn radio show circa 1970: untainted by heaviosity, cheerfully free of social comment and aimed simply at urging the Radio 1 Roadshow faithful to shuffle gamely onto the dancefloor in their knee boots and hot pants. The Rusty Harness version of 'Take Me For A Little While' packs an ecstatic Northern soul thump and is a definite highlight, alongside girl group Mother Trucker’s chunky contributions ('Explosion In My Soul,' 'Wrap It Up'), 'Simone' by Mamas & Papas escapee Denny Doherty, Polly Niles’ sprightly take on 'For What It’s Worth' and Blue Beard’s endearingly rustic 'Country Man', on which the vocalist sounds as though he’s been smoking an exhaust pipe in the Appalachians since boyhood.” Nice shrink-wrapped slip-case packaging. COMP CD $8 SKU:19047

THREE O CLOCK MERRIAN WEBSTER TIME - 22 Psych Sounds from Texas. 66-68Label:CICADELIC RECORDS (USA) By the time 1966 ended, many of the groups in Texas that started out playing British Invasion and folk-rock music, were now immersing themselves in the newly emerging psychedelic music. The five groups that comprise this album reflect the changes that occurred during this period and four of them even changed their names to sound more psychedelic. The Nomads became Smoke, Carrols Mood became The Sights And Sounds, The New Imperials became The Front Page News, and The Boys became The Remaining Few. Represented by twelve tracks on this album, The Nomads/Smoke, started out playing folk-rock music, but by 1967 went psychedelic-as witnessed by their “freak-out” version of “My Little Red Book” replete with backwards tapes. “Carrols Mood” went from singing ballads to surreal songs such as “Mystical Bells”. The Front Page News went from the soul of “Baby Let Me Bang Your Box” to the fuzz drenched “Thoughts and Afterthoughts”. If the 13th Floor Elevators were the epitome of what a Texas psychedelic band was, then the groups on this album were not far behind in trying to emulate that state of existence. Here then are twenty-two tracks compiling the changes that occurred from late 1966 to 1968, when the Texas bands went metaphorically speaking from “Kool-Aid” to “Electric Kool-Aid Acid” COMP CD $10 SKU:13278

TWO TIMING BABY -Ember Sixties Pop: Volume 2, 1961-1962Label:FANTASTIC EMBER In 1960, Jeffrey Kruger launched Ember Records as an independent, one of very few in the UK, where the majors held sway. Straight away, the label set about trying to break into the charts with many fine pop releases. The Ember Sixties Pop series compiles the best of those records. “Two Timing Baby” picks up the story from where Say When: Ember Sixties Pop Volume 1 (FVCD044) left off. Carter, Lewis & The Southerners first Ember single ‘Two Timing Baby’/’Will It Happen To Me’ features Joe Meek engineering, Geoff Goddard on piano, Albert Lee on guitar, Chas Hodges on bass and Bobby Graham on drums. The Meek connection continues with Mark Douglas only single: Joe produced ‘It Matters Not’/’Upside Down’ and Tornado Clem Cattini confirms he drums on both tracks. American songwriters Buddy Kaye and Phil Springer penned many hits, including ‘The Next Time’ for Cliff Richard. They brought several songs to Ember and Grant Tracy was the adaptable vocalist on ‘The Great Matchmaker’/’The Tears Came Rolling Down’ and the follow-up flip ‘Taming Tigers.’ Other beneficiaries of the prolific Kaye and Springer were Johnny Carson (‘Are You Anyone s Girl’/’Teenage Bachelor’ and, again, ‘The Tears Came Rolling Down’) and Sandra Gale (‘Hello Heartache’/’If She s Right For You’) who had been girl singer with the Ray Ellington Quartet, joining Ember when Ellington did. Kruger chose the songs for Lita Roza’s single with the aim of moving her sound towards pop and rock n roll, and she turns in fine performances on ‘Mama (He Treats Your Daughter Mean)’/’(He s My) Dreamboat,’ aided by a driving band led by Tony Crombie. Brooklyn-born Kerry Adams recorded her single in New York, conducted by future soul giant Jerry Ragovoy. The Dale Sisters cute harmonies are evident on their second Ember single, ‘Road To Love’/’Secrets.’ Tommy Sanderson’s second Ember 45 combined trad-jazz ‘Ding Dong Rag’ with groovy ‘Piano A Go Go,’ which would have made a great theme for a TV detective show. Many of these original singles are highly collectable (mint copies of Mark Douglas are valued at £75, Carter, Lewis & The Southerners at £50 and Lita Roza at £30). Subsequent volumes will carry the story through to the end of the sixties, with further sought after tracks included. The series is complemented by compilations devoted to beat and rock from the Ember vaults. Recordings are mastered from tape, where available, and booklets illustrated with sleeve and label shots. Nice shrink-wrapped slip-case packaging. COMP CD $8 SKU:19205

PLASTIC CLOUD ST- (Essential psychedelia!) 180 GRAMLabel:LION "What remains so remarkable about the band's album is that... the performances retain an energy, but also a naivety, that somehow evokes both the Jefferson Airplane and the Velvet Underground — often within the same song." —Shindig! MagazinePlastic Cloud recorded, quite simply, one of the greatest underground psychedelic albums ever made: a swirl of gossamer vocals and Tolkien references, swathed in the some of the most relentless fuzz guitar you will ever hear. A record with few equals, full of foreboding melodies and lovely hippie harmonies, as well as some of the trippiest fuzz guitar ever recorded. There is no need to single out a specific track, they are all excellent—one is equally as good as the next. Take for example the album centerpiece, the ten-and-a-half-minute ‘You Don't Care,’ an insane piece of social commentary that features terrific back-of-the-mix fuzz guitar as an elusive focal point to its extended pounding-drum laden instrumental breaks; a ten-minute swath of lysergic fuzz guitar that closes out the first side, it doesn't overstay its welcome, winding its way to a final freak out. Essential psychedelia!

Chicago's Plastic Crimewave Syndicate is led by Plastic Crimewave aka Steve Krakow on guitar and vocals, creator of the beloved psychedelic magazine Galactic Zoo Dossier (published by Drag City) and former head of Plastic Crimewave Sound, who toured with Comets on Fire, Acid Mothers Temple, and Oneida, and released several LPs which were acclaimed in the Wire magazine, Mojo, and even by head-druid Julian Cope. The new Syndicate configuration is filled out by bassist Anjru Kettering, formerly of windy city acid-rawk gods the Great Society Mind Destroyers; Dawn Aquarius on synth, who was part of Herbcraft and Cursillistas, Brainshadows and Oracle Offering; and Jose Bernal, who has pounded the skins for Bionic Cavemen and Dead Feathers as well. POPPEES -Pop Goes The Anthology (Great 70s power pop!) CLASSIC BLACK VINYL -Label:BOMP The Poppees were one of the creators and the embodiment of what soon came to be known as the "Power Pop" sound of the late 70s. This long overdue anthology finally gives this notable and highly underrated band its due, elegantly chronicling the Poppees short but influential role in the history of the New York New Wave scene of the late 70's. While anchored around their two classic Bomp singles, "If She Cries/Love of The Loved" (the latter track produced by Craig Leon of the Ramones fame), and "Jealousy/She's Got It" (produced by Cyril Jordan of the Flamin' Groovies), "Pop Goes The Anthology" features never before released recordings, including demos, early live recordings, and culminating with a rip-roaring live performance at CBGB. It is complete with liner notes and unpublished photos. "After all, what would be more punk at that time than being in the Poppees - a band that emulated the early Beatles, from their moptops to their Cuban heels?" - WFMUFormed in In the mid-'70s in New York by Bob Waxman, Arthur Alexander, Paddy Lorenzo, and Donny Jackrel, later replaced by Jet Harris. PREVOST, GREG "STACKHOUSE”-UNIVERSAL VAGRANT-((Stones,Yardbirds ,NY Dolls style).)Label:MEAN DISPOSITION After a career lasting close to four decades, it was only two years ago when Greg decided to launch his first solo record: the celebrated "Mississippi Murderer”, an album where Delta blues and hi-energy R&R were combined in a masterful mix heavily influenced by the likes of the Stones, the Yardbirds and NY Dolls. This recording has become a cult classic, but the ever adventurous Prevost is now back with a brand new artifact: "Universal Vagrant". This second album goes one step further than his previous waxing and can be safely described as the best recording in his long and illustrious career. It also confirms what those in the know already knew: the fact that Prevost is a top-notch songwriter, one of the coolest R&R singers ever, and that he has a deep understanding of the roots of his music...be them the original blues greats ("Moanin' The Blues", "Mean Red Spider"); the personal idols inscribed in his DNA, Keith Richards and Johnny Thunders ("Gin Soaked Time Warp", "Shot of Rock and Roll", or the superb, gospel-oriented "Lord Shine a Light on Me"), as well as the dark, dangerous Stooges-infused sounds ("Evil On My Mind" or his killer version of "Codine"). Here you have the results: a perfect production, an explosive sound, a recording cooked with ease and among friends, but with edge, attitude and sheer class. This is a first rate R&R album where all pieces fit neatly. No mean feat. LP $14 SKU:18291

PRIMA DONNA- Nine Lives and Forty Fives - YELLOW VINYL - ROCK AND ROLL! Glitter punk Label:ALIVE Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley on a steady diet of punk and glitter rock, Prima Donna are infamous on the LA scene. Their curriculum includes musical road trips with Eddie and the Hot Rods, Adam Ant, Glen Matlock & The Philistines, The Dictators, and even Green Day, who they supported on two arena tours on two continents. Frontman Kevin Preston has also continued participation in Green Day side-project Foxboro Hot Tubs. While touring the US and Europe, Prima Donna was in and out of the studio numerous times, both at home in L.A. and in Milan, Italy. The finished product is “Nine Lives and Forty Fives”, a 11-song variety pack that displays the band’s skills in the studio, and compiles some of their rarest and rawest recordings, including “Rock and Roll is Dead,” available for the first time in US. The song was named one of the Top Ten Songs of 2013 by Little Steven’s Underground Garage. LP $10 SKU:16433

PTARMIGAN - ST (hynotic mystical w inserts and photos) Label:LION Hypnotic, mystical, largely instrumental tracks, all based on a complex interplay of recorder, hand drums and acoustic guitar—one of those hidden gems that make life better when you discover them all these years later. Ptarmigan recorded the basic tracks for what would eventually become their only album in 1972. It then took the band’s producer and manager, renowned flautist Paul Horn, more than a year to find a label willing to release such unusual music. Finally, in 1974, Columbia Records released Ptarmigan’s album to critical acclaim, and minimal sales. The music of Ptarmigan is deep and authentic and intimate; it's reflective sounds are well suited to meditating on a landscape, an emotion, a bottle of wine, or maybe while staring at a flickering candle. Sometimes it is free-flowing and jazz-oriented; at other times it has the mystical feel of a shamanistic ceremony, fueled by Eastern-tinged harmonies. But in the end, this album is about the sea: Ptarmigan was, after all, from Vancouver Island, and the musicians were well-versed in the contradictory moods of the surrounding ocean. Rated by many as the best "folk/progressive" and/or "folk/psych" album ever made. As one contemporary review said, this is "music from musicians, for musicians, late-at-night, last joint music." Our Lion Productions reissue comes with a massive fold-out insert which includes lyrics, liner notes from the band, and a multitude of photos and historical mementos.•Rated by many as the best "folk/progressive" and/or "folk/psych" album ever made

QUICK, BILL - MARAVILLOSA GENTE ( 70s obscure psych gem) -Label:TIME LAG Pressed on 180 gm audiophile grade vinyl, and limited to 1000 copiesDeluxe LP reissue of amazing little know gem (entitled “beautiful people”) from 1972. Born in Miami to an American father and Venezuelan mother, Bill split the USA and went to Madrid, Spain in the early 70s. Once there, he landed a recording deal with famous producer Alain Milhaud for the Explosion label, and set to work on this, his sole album. Sessions included an impressive cast of players in the studio, including Salvador Dominguez & Chema Pellicó (from Cerebrum), Jess Lam (Jess & James), and Frank Rojas (Sangre). One of the album’s real hidden treasures, though, was the assistance of unknown Texan Mark Gottschall, who co-wrote the title track and adds perfect vocal harmonies as well a second acoustic guitar. The album has an air of mystical psychedelia, and there's a real sun-blasted quality to it all that makes you want to crank the volume. The lyrics (all in English) feel deeply sincere; when combined with Quick’s unique voice, unusual accent, and loose delivery, it makes for one hell of a cool record. Reissued here for the first time, with the collaboration of original producer Milhaud. packaged in a heavy weight gloss coated exact reproduction of the original cover, including the original double sided insert, as well as a huge new full color foldout insert which reproduces at nearly full size the Brazilian version of the album art. Extensive notes by Salvador Dominguez, Mark Gottschall, and Alex Carretero (Guerssen Records, Spain). Art includes rare picture sleeves 45s, promotional inserts, lyric sheets; the LP labels reproduce the original psychedelic full color Explosion label art. LP $17 SKU:19296

RABBLE RABBLE- Composure (PSYCH space trip) SWIRL VINYL -Label:EYE VYBE RECORDS (USA) Rabble Rabble spent nearly a decade building a heavy reputation for raucous basement shows where any attendee will inevitably leave the room drenched in beer and twice as drunk as before. The addition of Kieterang See Jru (also of Strychnine, Plastic Crimewave Syndicate) in 2013 effectively spiked the band's punch with a healthy dose of LSD, and soon their live shows became full on psychedelic space trips, infusing the heavy, reckless garage punk they built themselves on with krautrock rhythms, proto metal edge and a dash of Smashing Pumpkin-esque guitar leads. Composure is a great finale to the trip that was Rabble Rabble. Limited to 300 copies, 12 min/side; plays at 45 rpm; includes lyric insert; pressed on random marble swirl vinyl by gotta groove records. LP $14 SKU:19484

DYMON, FRANKIE JR -Let It Out: Poems In Words And Music (PSYCH KRAUTROCK)-Label:GERMANOFON Described in one place as “Psychedelic soul-brother Krautrock,” this is an incredible Kraut/funk meeting (1971) of US expatriate Dymon and the cream of the German Rock scene. Dymon, probably better known in film circles for his role as "Black Power Militant" in Godard's Sympathy For The Devil and as director of the super-obscure Death May Be Your Santa Claus, mellifluously rants on subjects such as past sexual conquests, racial injustice, and pot-smoking etiquette. The album was a kind of 'project' record, led by Frank Dostal and Achim Reichel. Reichel wrote most of the songs and produced the album (engineering was by Konrad “Conny” Plank). Most of Reichel's then backing band also took part in the recordings: Rolf Kohler (bass), Norbert Jacobsen (clarinet), Lemmie Lembrecht (percussion) and Helmut Franke (percussion). Additional musicians were Wolfgang "Zabba" Lindner (drums, ex-Wind), Peter Hecht (piano, from Lucifer's Friend), Elga Blask (vocals) and Olaf Casalich (congas). The LP comprised a great variety of styles—those of you who know the early Achim Reichel albums will know what to expect here! There are certainly many tracks to enjoy, like ‘Aftermyth,’ an 11-minute track with manipulated electric guitar and awkward anti-war and anti-racism lyrics. Many of the tracks had very unusual arrangements. The psychedelic cover art, recalling the Ikarus album on Plus, is also notable. In the same year, Dostal and Reichel also made another complex, but vastly different project album together, this time as Wonderland Band. First-ever reissue, lyric booklet included. CD $10 SKU:19035

EDIP AKBAYRAM NEDIR rare 70’s Turkish hashish psych! Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) A very different take on the Anatolian rock sound (tracks date from 1975-76), with strange keyboard washes leading to arrangements that feature wah-wah fuzz guitar and (I think) wah-wah saz, Akbayram's powerful swirling vocals, all backed by funked-up drums; many of these tracks have a tough hashish rock sound that somehow meshes well with folk instruments, and/or the odd addition of Jethro Tull-esque flute; keyboards and arrangements from "genius" Murat Ses (Mogollar) supplement the Dostlar line-up; probably the most important non-Erkin Koray, 3 Hur El, or Mogollar album from Turkey; among the best that Turkey produced in the seventies—and that's saying something; lyrics and photos in 12-page booklet. CD $10 SKU:18949

PINEAPPLES -Twice On the Pipe (90s Underground Psych-Rock Critic’s Darlings )- Label:WICKED APE Downtown New York City in the early '90s was a magical place and time for rock music, with a burgeoning scene and hip clubs galore. Striding like conquering giants into this fertile milieu came THE PINEAPPLES, whose gigs inspired the reverence of fans and other musicians alike. They took the scene by storm, sharing the stages of CBGBs, Maxwell’s, the Knitting Factory and Brownie’s with the likes of Hole, Helmet, Sonic Youth, Lunachicks, White Zombie – hell, even Juliana Hatfield. They had a single that got raves in NME (single of the week); Melody Maker said of their Kramer-produced 'Cocahuates' EP, "it definitely places The Pineapples in that exclusive but growing category of US underground bands heading overground..." But they didn't. Not yet, anyway. It’s a new century, and The Pineapples have, at long last, returned to save us all. LP $10 SKU:19261
