Formed in 1975 by guitarist JACK LEE, bassist PETER CASE, and drummer PAUL COLLINS, the Nerves are one of the most influential garage/punk pop outfits to come out of the mid-70's LA scene, and certainly one of the least documented... until now. Mostly remembered for their classic "Hanging On The Telephone," a Jack Lee composition which has been covered over the years by a myriad of artists from BLONDIE to L7 to CAT POWER, the Nerves were above all a high energy rock'n'roll band with all three members composing and singing. Playing fast, ear-catching garage pop songs, sometimes wearing matching suits, the trio had more than a bit of the stripped down street energy of the Los Angeles's early punk movement. They shared the stage with the Ramones and Mink Deville during their infamous US "Magical Blistering Tour," played the Punk Palace and the legendary Masque in Hollywood, and headlined shows with the Avengers, the Zeros, The Dils, The Screamers and Shock, to name just a few. After the band's break-up in 1978, Peter Case and Paul Collins formed The BREAKAWAYS, and later went on to front the legendary PLIMSOULS and The BEAT, respectively. Following the success of "Hanging On the Telephone," JACK LEE has mostly focused on his songwriting career, releasing an album in 1981. Both Peter and Paul are still recording and touring. PETER CASE's latest album "Let Us Now Praise Sleepy John" (Yeproc 2007) was nominated for a Grammy. This collection, authorized for the first time ever by the three band members, features their 1976 EP (now regarded as a power pop classic), as well as demos and previously unreleased live recordings, REMASTERED and complete with notes and photos. AGNES STRANGE- Strange Flavour (1975 obscure hard rock gem)Label:RADIATION DELUXE SERIES (SPAIN) 180-gram LP. Limited edition of 500. Originally released in 1975 on the BirdsNest label, the sole album by boogie stompers Agnes Strange is an obscure hard rock gem begging to be rediscovered. Formed in Southampton, UK, in the mid-'70s by Alan Green (bass), Dave Rodwell (drums), and John Westwood (guitar, vocals), Agnes Strange failed to reach any glory or fame, but their legacy of heavy rock riffs, raw leads, and tough attitude -- with a spacey Hawkwind-esque touch here and there -- helped them reach cult status among '70s rock fanatics LP $19 SKU:17195

AHBEZ, EDEN- EXOTIC WORLD OF ( EARLY 60S HIPPIE!) - Label:DIONYSUS A compilation of rare Eden Ahbez performed and penned exotica tracks, several never before issued from the late '50s-early '60s! Full annotation, Limited! Eden Ahbez (born George Alexander Aberle) was an American songwriter and recording artist of the 1940s-1960s, whose lifestyle in California was influential on the hippie movement. Ahbez is best known for composing the song 'Nature Boy', which became a #1 hit in 1948 for Nat 'King' Cole and has since become a pop and jazz standard. LP $14 SKU:16172

AHBEZ, EDEN- EDEN’S ISLAND (1960 Psych before the term was even invented!)Label:CAPTAIN HIGH RECORDS (AUSTRIA) It is 1960. Rock 'n' roll has just lost a couple of its protagonists during this and the previous year. The time of the great balladeers has just begun but soon will run out, due to the new and exciting beat invasion. In the US mainstream, the tiki culture has reached a certain peak and is about to collapse, but still goes strong, and with it comes the so-called "exotica" music, a crossover between smooth jazz and swing, Latin grooves, and haunting melodies rooted in global folk traditions, plus weird sound effects that often create a spooky jungle or dreamy island beach atmosphere. See palm trees growing out of your speakers; witness monkeys and parrots having fun in your room. eden ahbez (1908-1995) lived a consistent dropout and hippie lifestyle way before the movement was born in the mid '60s. As a poet and composer, he wrote the hit tune "Nature Boy" that gave Nat King Cole his first big success in 1948. On Eden's Island, originally released in 1960, he approaches the field of exotica music from a different point of view, creating an epic concept album about a utopian society living in peace and harmony on an island far away from the modern western world as we know it. Relaxed grooves; easy-listening swing; Latin patterns; peaceful, dreamy, even transcendent vocal melodies; tinges of folk music from around the world; and a whole color palette of mind-expanding sounds, with narrated lyrics and eden ahbez's wood flute. A truly unique effort; highly recommended to exotica aficionados who, for example, love Frank Hunter's 1959 White Goddess album. Psychedelic music before the term was even invented. LP $19 SKU:16753

AURA- Sativa (1974 SF psych funk masterpiece) - Label:LION Official replica vinyl edition of this oft-sampled slab of Bay Area history, a psych funk masterpiece that cannot be denied. Aura formed in 1974 and played extensively throughout Northern California. By 1976, the band recorded their first and only album at Pacific Recording Studio in San Mateo. The original title of the album was meant to be "Sativa", but out of fear that promoting the joys of marijuana would be too controversial, the band omitted the title and just left it as "Aura". Over the ensuing decades, the Aura album has grown in stature to become a major soul/funk collector's item. It features a number of major funk tracks plus funky ballads with female vocals. Standouts include 'Sativa' (replete with water-pipe sound effects and blistering guitar), and the manic fuzz-guitar jam 'Skyrocket.' Old style tip-on jacket and quality limited edition vinyl pressing, mastered from the original tapes. LP $14 SKU:19263

BAINS, LEE - Dereconstructed (w first run color vinyl and MP3 download ) -Label:SUB POP Dereconstructed is a careening, road raging, all night party of a record. Informed by a distinctly southern hoodoo, it is a master class in authentic Gulf Coast choogle. Having cut his teeth in the Dexateens, Lee Bains lll has been properly schooled in how to throw down, so much so that even his hyper literate musings are no match for the blown out distortion that gives this record its blistering urgency. LP $16 SKU:10000

BERMUDA TRIANGLE- ST (RARE 70s folk psych -Label:WINTER SOLSTICE What do you do if you are a married psychedelic folk duo from the 1960’s who had been pals with Greenwich Village coffee house and club stalwarts like, say, Jimi Hendrix, had your one shot at major label glory (a MGM/Heritage label release under the band name Euphoria) ruined by the producer of those sessions, and then had your self-released album from the mid-1970’s (as Bermuda Triangle) bootlegged by the pernicious Radioactive/Fallout/Phoenix/Past & Present/Sunbeam reissue juggernaut? Well, if you’re Roger and Wendy, you dig through your tapes, and not only do you release the original Bermuda Triangle album, with six bonus tracks, but you also release a second, equally enchanting disc of alternate takes and other recordings dating from the same era! The psychedelic folk music of Roger and Wendy is astonishing, beautiful, and enchanting without sounding dated. Truly wonderful music with its own original sound, which to a great extent stems from Roger Penney's electric autoharp, the enchanting voice of Wendy Penney and the unique arrangements that combine the two. Listen, for example, to the unusual way in which the duo interpret a classic like ‘Nights In White Satin’ (on the original Bermuda Triangle album, first released in 1977). Everything that follows is as good, perhaps even better still. All in all, something of a stunner. A few months ago we had never heard of Bermuda Triangle, apart from the occasional entry in record collector’s lists. Now, we cherish these two albums from a band who seemed to be destined to be a footnote in the history of psychedelic folk, but have now been promoted to their proper status as a major chapter in that self-same history. There's often a celebratory feeling to the music, from rock tracks to more pastoral tracks like the album closer, ‘Wind,’ a song which has a trippy psychedelic atmosphere, thanks to ethereal folk vocals, moody electric piano, and bass. We can all be grateful that this music is available from the source, with abundant bonus material, as the resultant album is a joy; any acid folk / rural roots fans should grab it with both hands and rush to the nearest CD player. Weird and beautiful"Transcendental female vocals, elaborate keyboard arrangements, and autoharp which is often treated with phasing, flanging and other effects. Fine originals. This album is kind of a shock on first listen, because at least to these jaded ears it's not often I discover something so original and bizarre."—Acid Archives LP $32 SKU:11823

BIGFOOT - ST (late 60s PSYCH!) PURPLE Label:IT'S A GAS Psychedelic at heart, this self-titled work by Bigfoot brilliantly captures the spirit of the second half of the '60s. Edition on PURPLE VINYL. LP $24 SKU:18734

BIRDS- SAY THOSE MAGIC WORDS - BLUE VINYLLabel:BEAT Say Those Magic Words collects 12 essential tracks by The Birds (UK), a brilliant mid-60s Garage-R&B-Beat band featuring Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood. Repressed on blue vinyl. LP $18 SKU:18292
