AMBROSE SLADE-BALLZY (1969 WEst Midlands) Label:AUDIO CLARITY West Midlands rockers Slade started out as The 'N Betweens, a band formed by members of The Vendors and The Mavericks; their earliest recordings were issued in France by Barclay. Signed to Fontana in 1969, they became Ambrose Slade, the name inspired by the shoes and handbag worn by a label secretary. The U.S. edition of their debut album, titled 'Ballzy', shows a range of styles and diverse cover tunes: renditions of the Beatles' track 'Martha My Dear' and Marvin Gaye's 'If This World Were Mine' are contrasted by the slinking, guitar-led instrumental, 'Genesis', and blues-rock creeper, 'Roach Daddy'. Soon after these recordings, they changed their direction and became the well-known glamrock band. LP $24 SKU:24266

BRAINTICKET - PSYCHONAUT (ACID PSYCH 1971) CLEAR VINYL +CD)Label:LILITH While the band's debut album, 1971's 'Cottonwoodhill' was a heavily acid-laden affair dominated by droning organ, disturbing vocals and a collection of cacophonic sound effects (causing it to carry a warning label and be banned in several countries) for their second effort, band-founder Joël Vandroogenbroeck brought in a completely new line-up and changed the band's sound dramatically. While 'Psychonaut' still takes listeners into the realm of altered consciousness - making heavy use of a droning Hammond, sitar, tablas, etc. - this time the vocals are more melodic and the music itself is more song-oriented. This is by far Brainticket's most accessible album, and perhaps their most timeless. Fully remastered from the original master tapes! Comes on clear vinyl. LP $25 SKU:24430

HORDE - Press Button Firmly (mid sixties rare garage ) w 4 bonus tracks -Label:BREAK-A-WAY Rarest 60s garage album by North Carolina students from early 1967. Painstakingly remastered at KSL. Undoubtedly the most exciting mid sixties garage album to be recently discovered in the genre, is that by The Horde from North Carolina. The existence of this self produced album came to collectors ears and eyes only about a year ago. It was recorded more or less accidently in early 1967, released in a micro quantity of only 25 copies and among the local US garage albums of the decade it is one of the few eclectic examples with all the ingredients that makes it outstanding compared with the usual prep-school albums of the time. It contains a blend of exciting originals and well chosen, inspired covers, played in a raw, crude and frantic style. If ever it were true that the over-used assertion that a band's cover versions measured up to the originals, then it is true of The Horde. Why? These five 19-20 year old students from all over the United States did not only blaze a trail for 60s rock in then conservative North Carolina, they also had a general attitude that finds its origins in the young peoples mindset of the mid-sixties that put them outside of the local mainstream and gained them a sort of regional underground popularity. CD has 4 bonus tracks. CD $12 SKU:15346

LATE, THE -SONGS FROM THE FAMILY TREE (1967 HOllies inspired) Label:WOODEN HILL Although harmony-based British soft rock act Unicorn didnt release their superb debut album, 'Uphill All The Way', until mid-1971, the core of the band had been playing together, principally as the Late, for several years. Taken from previously unreleased acetates and studio tapes, 'Songs From The Family Tree' charts the groups hitherto-undocumented progress from 1967 to 1969 as they slowly evolved from their original, Hollies-inspired psychedelic pop direction to create a more individual identity. With comprehensive liner notes, quotes and numerous photographs, 'Songs From The Family Tree' is an essential item for Unicorn fans and admirers of late Sixties British pop alike CD $17 SKU:23320

The attitude is the one you could find back in the days, they play a unique sound of acid rock, fuzz rock, heavy blues, garage psych. They are sons of the magik trinity: Stooges, Blue Cheer and MC5 but also perfect for fans of early Pentagram, Witchfinder General and Black Sabbath. CD $17 SKU:24048

ACROSS THE WATER-ST (1975 prog rock rarity)Remastered, Gatefold-Label:SEELIE COURT Split LP has neo-classical prog rock epic on side one, and “gorgeous” downer folk on side two. "An unknown and precious album recorded in 1975 by two friends who recorded one side each, they made just two acetates and then handmade beautiful covers from two enlargements of a photograph of the Isles of St Kilda. Side one is a neo classical prog rock epic in the style of Renaissance and Continuum, inspired by the wild and pagan isles of St Kilda where, as a 16 yr old, the composer Peter McKerrow was taken by military launch to conduct a census on the rare Soay Sheep that live there. A storm blew away his tent on the first night. The other side is by his Canadian pal who attended the same Uni in england, deeply homesick for Canada and surviving a broken relationship these songs are melancholic and Leonard Cohen-esque. The original Lp is astonishingly gorgeous and one of the most desirable artifacts of the prog era.” Gatefold edition, limited to 500x copies. LP $28 SKU:24143

MAYER, NATHANIEL-GOING BACK TO THE VILLAGE OF LOVE-Label:HONEYPIE Honey Pie Records present a reissue of Nathaniel Mayer's Going Back To The Village Of Love, originally released in 1963. Loudermilk's 'Tobacco Road'. This one-sided LP collects all those five tracks and adds a 4-page info sheet, including rare pix. The two songs from the single, originally issued by Bazaar Records, are the crude garage track 'A Little While Back' b/w the more moody 'I Say You're Wrong'.
