VAINICA DOBLE -ST LAST COPY (Super rare Spanish psych 1971)Label:WAH WAH Probably the rarest and most sought-after LP in the Spanish collector's market, the first album by Gloria Van Aerssen & Carmen Santonja is at last reissued as it deserves. On the twelve songs they wrote for their debut album, originally released on Ópalo in 1971, Vainica Doble blended folk, soft rock, pop and a dose of psychedelia. The fantastic, colorful cover was designed by Ivan Zulueta, artist and film director (he was the mastermind behind the cult movies 1, 2, 3... Al escondite inglés! and Arrebato), and is reproduced here in all its glory, along with extensive liner notes by Àngel Maeztu. Including 2 non-LP single tracks. All their Ópalo recordings collected in a fantastic edition. Made, as always, with love and devotion by the Wah Wah team.” CD $15 SKU:20445

VINICIUS DE MORAES -Modernism and Bossa Nova-Label:ACME Vinicius de Moraes, Rio de Janeiro born poet and diplomat (he worked for the Brazilian Foreign Ministry in North America, France and Uruguay), was a truly singular figure in his nation's rich culture. In 1954 he wrote the play Orfeu da Conceição , which was soon adapted by French director Marcel Camus into the film, Black Orpheus, a controversial, but enormously popular movie which impressed early 1960s audiences with its beautiful soundtrack and panoramic technicolor views of Rio de Janeiro. This él collection begins with seven de Moraes/Jobim songs from the original 1956 Black Orpheus performed by Jobim, Roberto Paiva and Luis Bonfá (including “Someone to Light Up My Life” from that production, later recorded by Frank Sinatra) before presenting an anthology of de Moraes lyrics recorded by artists like Jon Hendricks, Carlos Lyra, Joao Gilberto, Cardoso, Bonfá and de Moraes himself. Future jazz/bossa standards “Agua de Beber (Water to Drink),” “How Insensitive” and “The Girl from Ipanema” can all be sampled here in their original Portuguese. All but five songs here were written by the team of Jobim and de Moraes, making this collection a tribute to the enduring music of both men. CD $5 SKU:20677

BEAU- Creation (Acid psych weirdness 1971) LAST COPIES Label:SOMMER Originally released for John Peel’s Dandelion label in 1971, “Creation” was the second album by underground folk troubadourTrevor “Beau” Midgley, recorded with psych band The Way We Live as backing group. Influenced by Tom Paxton, Leadbelly and Dylan, Beau started to write his own songs in the late 60s. After trying to secure a contract with Elektra Records with no success, he was approached by Clive Selwood (Elektra UK) and John Peel, who were launching a new label, Dandelion Records. Beau signed to them and released his eponymous debut album in 1969. For his second effort, Beau decided to experiment with a more folk-rock sound and add to the mix some avant-garde influences. Jim Milne (lead guitar and bass) and Steve Clayton (drums) from Dandelion stablemates The Way We Live / Tractor were the perfect backing band for him. “Creation” is a brilliant psych-folk / acid-folk offering with superb 12-string guitars, heartfelt vocals, studio effects and occasional acid-fuzz guitar. Beau’s avant-garde influences came to the fore on the title track, which verges into White Noise territory. The album closes with “Silence Returns”, featuring one of the most ear-splitting fuzz assaults ever committed to wax, courtesy of Jim Milne. Master tape sound. Four page insert featuring the first cover design whish was never used plus detailed liner notes by Beau himself and lyrics. Two previously unreleased bonus tracks from 1972 (featuring Tractor as backing band) which were recorded for “High Mass”, an aborted third Beau album which was never released at the time. “It’s a consistent album full of tone, deft playing and thoughtful lyrics that demand and reward attention” – Simon Crisp (Galactic Ramble) LP $14 SKU:20552

BEN-ISRAEL, DANNY- Kathmandu Sessions (Awesome late 60s psychedelic freakouT) - Label:ANAZITISI From Dusty groove “ Here's some pretty awesome late 60s psychedelic freakout gems from a cat we'd never heard of before -- Israeli citizen Danny Ben-Israel -- who only ever recorded a couple of albums worth of material! The massive, free-spiraling tunes that comprise the first 3 tracks on this record combine the kind of way out space trip electric guitar that Hendrix played live but never recorded, and stable bass, drums and Eastern-tinged keyboards that keep it all rock and roll -- no matter how out there Danny's wailing vocals and lyrics go. LP $19 SKU:20818

BISCUIT -TIME FOR ANSWERS (60s style psych freakbeat) LAST ONE! Label:NO TOMORROW Biscuit is one of those (rare) bands than take their inspiration mainly from 60s sounds (beat, garage, psychedelia, freakbeat, hard-rock, folk-rock, soul, rocknroll) but do not sound like just another 60s band. Their sound is uniquely their own, and trying to compare them to another band is so silly that lazy reviewers come out with comparisons as diverse as Urge Overkill, Soundtracks of Our Lives, the Byrds or The Prisoners in the same line. Which of course are all wrong. What is sure right is that these guys have a good thing going when it comes to combine meaty, solid guitar riffs with beautiful melodies. They know the secret of how to make well-crafted, passionate songs, the kind that grow with every listen. They can rock as fuck one minute and melt your heart the next. You can feel the anger, rage and desperation in their songs, but also the gratefulness, love and tenderness. You can feel the people behind the music. In a phrase, they've got soul. In my book, a truely classic record". LP $14 SKU:19899

BIXBY, DAVE - ODE TO QUETZALCOATL (legendary 60s Michigan private press loner folk-Label:GUERSSEN Since its discovery in the late 90s, Dave Bixby's legendary $2000 private press album from 1969 is considered by all serious record collectors as the king in the loner/downer folk genre. After being involved in 60s Michigan folk and garage-rock bands such as The Shillelaghs and Peter & The Prophets, Bixby started playing acoustic guitar and experimenting with LSD. After a year of drug abuse he felt broken. Starting a soul-searching, spiritual journey, he wrote "Ode to Quetzalcoatl" and most of the material for his second album, Harbinger's "Second Coming" in just one month and a half. Assisted by fellow musician Brian MacInness, who played some guitar parts on the album, Dave recorded "Quetzalcoatl" using a echo-laden four track machine in a flats living room. The sound is lo-fi and sparse: just acoustic guitars and some occasional harmonica & flute, added to Bixbys haunting, emotional vocals, spiritual lyrics and solid songwriting. The opening cut, the eerie and painful "Drug Song" sets the mood perfectly for the rest of the album which contains more tormented titles like "666", "Lonely faces", Open Doors", "Secret forest". Never an acoustic folk album sounded so intense as this. Reissued for the first time under license from Dave Bixby. Carefully remastered sound from vinyl (no master tapes exists) done at Shadoks Music Studios, insert with extensive and detailed liner notes by Matvei Procak - the guy who found Bixby in 2006 - plus some rare pictures. LP $19 SKU:10010

BLEU FOREST-ICHIBAN Live At Jimmies(1969 Unreleased US West Coast psychedelic)Label:GOLDEN PAVILION The very first recordings by The Bleu Forest took place after the group had played a show at the Hey You Coffeehouse in Ventura, CA. Jimmie Haskell invited the psych/acid-rockers to come to Hollywood and record on the spot at his place. His intention was to capture how the band sounded live, and that is exactly what 'Ichiban' does, thanks to the band members in fine form, two mics, a recording machine, and lots of spontaneity and raw energy with no retakes. It's a time-capsule direct from Jimmie's place in August, 1967. Limited to 500 copies. LP $18 SKU:19491

BLUE ASH - No More, No LESS 150 GRAM (1973)Label:URANUS Blue Ash's stunning debut album, pressed for the first time since 1973 Contains 12 Power Pop classics, including "Abracadabra (Have You Seen Her?)" and "Smash My Guitar" Pressed on 150-gram black vinyl and housed inside a full-color sleeve Limited to 500 copies Hailing from Youngstown, Ohio, Blue Ash are the great, forgotten power pop band of the early '70s. TRAFFIC SOUND - Virgin (1969 Peruvian hard rock/ psych) Label:MUNSTER The second LP by Traffic Sound, released in 1969, is one of the masterpieces of Latin rock. On their first album with self-written songs, the band from Lima combined psychedelia, hard rock, a hint of progressive rock and a Latin tinge to create a personal, mighty sound full of details. The best example is Meshkalina, a track with references to Incan culture which became an anthem of the period and was heard all over Peru. The LP was a great success and even saw a US release. CD $10 SKU:20131

TREE PEOPLE - ST (privately released acid folk gem from 1979)Label:TILIQUA RECORDS (Japan) digipack . incredible Japanese-based label Tiliqua records presents the lysergic beauty of the Tree People's sole recorded artifact, a privately released acid folk gem from 1979, to a whole new generation. The Tree People were an Oregon based acoustic group centered around guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Stephen Cohen (who had recently been transplanted, hobo style coffee house to coffee house, from Rhode Island). This is a meditative, deeply introspective work, with stunningly clear production, that really does make one feel they are amongst natural surroundings. The best tracks feature recorder and flute, such as ‘Opus,’ ‘Pot of Gold’, ‘Morning Song’ and ‘The Pineapple Song’. Cohen has a slight rural twang in his voice, one that seems confident yet vulnerable. For progressive folk fans, the comparisons go northwards towards some similarly minded Canadians—most obviously, Vancouver based band Ptarmigan (see our Lion Productions reissue of their only album)—the acoustic guitar, fragile vocals and ample use of recorder are a touchstone for both groups. The CD reissue on Tiliqua Records is stunning. It comes in a beautiful Japanese mini-LP (extra thick cardboard), with a full history, photos, etc. It’s obvious that this reissue was a labor of love, and that the label owner is a huge fan of the album. Limited pressing. For good measure, here is the label description: “In times when people are getting excited about media-created scenes like “new weird america” and “freak folk”, they seem to overlook the fact that such music was being created decades ago. The Tree People album is evidence of such creativity, but was sadly doomed to obscurity... until now. Upon listening today this hushed and intimate feeling still resonates through the music – the record possesses an extraordinarily potent atmosphere that still intoxicates the senses after so many years. over a combustible backing dominated by shimmering strings, bone-shaking hand percussion rhythms, and quivering sensuous threads of eastern-toned flute playing, the group succeeded in concocting up a syncretic combination of meditative Indian raga, western folk stylings and idiosyncratic melodic ideas. the music breathes out intimacy and communicates with a rare directness—hooking you instantly with sheer aural bliss derived from the melody, from the flowing beat, from the sound of the words and syllables and of all those separate elements interacting with each other, rendered into a concentrated, gracious flow of lunar notes. the album's compositions have so many hidden qualities, all breathing out deep and affectionate sentiments that reveal, just like a lotus flower centered on the axis with its petals unfolding towards the circumference, a streamlined adhesion towards the group's' own singular creed. listen to it and you may feel like awakening from a deep slumber, your unconsciousness leaking away as aspects of reality slowly mix in with the rest of your already blurred mindset.” CD $12 SKU:5234

TROGGS -From Nowhere /Trogglodynamite-Label:BGO The first two British Troggs LPs combined onto one disc on this 26-track CD, with the addition of historical liner notes. Four of the cuts on "From Nowhere” —and more than half of “Trogglodynamite” — never came out in the U.S., and collectors have sometimes wondered why “Trogglodynamite" in particular was not more heavily represented on compilations or reissues. CD $12 SKU:21301

UNDEAD - First Worst and Cursed w DEE DEE RAMONE Label:DIONYSUS If late ’70s and early ’80s horror punk was a high school, and The Misfits were the angry goth kids, then The Undead would be the beer-swilling, joker-stoners of said institution. Their frolic through the seedy underbelly of horror punk is collected on First, Worst and Cursed. While other punks may have been bigger (and maybe better), no one beats The Undead’s uncanny ability to make disjointed rock songs with an edge so sharp you’d cut yourself. CD $5 SKU:19829

VENTURES -Beach Party (COLLECTION)-Label:ACME Founded in Tacoma, Washington in 1958, the Ventures made a significant contribution to the surf music scene which unfolded between 1961-63. They were a revelation then, their style and humour continues to speak to us today. The song that started the Ventures phenomenon was their arrangement of ‘Walk, Don’t Run.’ The group were in awe of Chet Atkins and were inspired to adapt his slightly baroque interpretation of the Johnny Smith composition. The hit brought the Ventures to national prominence and began a career of five decades and more, which has seen the release of over 250 albums worldwide. The 1962 long-player, "Beach Party" is undoubtedly one of the finest and most coherent of all original 1960s Ventures concept albums and is the centerpiece of this anthology of their early years. Our edition comprises selections from each of their first nine albums and some rare single-only releases (including Part One of Mel Taylor’s '2,000 Pound Bee' on which a fuzz tone / distortion box was used for the first time), all complimented by the addition of the historic Johnny Smith and Chet Atkins recordings of the seminal ‘Walk, Don’t Run. CD $8 SKU:21302

BLAIR 1523 (Spacemen 3 related )Beautiful Debris (brought to us by Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3 -Psych/Drone ) LAST COPIES! -Label:VOXX LAST COPIES (Voxx 060) Brought to us by Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3, this remarkable band from the bucolic shire of Cornwall had a variety of strengths, from strong pop songwriting to a penchant for extended freakout jams, all of which is captured on this, the only record they made before sadly breaking up. To those few fortunate enough to have heard it, it remains an esoteric favorite.. Dripping with glassy pastels of brilliant greens, pinks, purples, yellows and blues, the art work complements a round of houka hits supremely. The music picks up where Syd Barrett and early Pink Floyd left off in the '60s.” - American Music Press This album is worth buying for the LP cover alone. This album is the embodiment of the no frills, off the cuff, blues punk rock that The BLOODY HOLLIES are admired for. They do what they do with skill, perfection, and flat out better than anyone else. "The Bloody Hollies are a bass-less, blues-drenched riff monster fronted by a powerfully hoarse singer-guitarist, and they will turn your ears and limbs to jelly if you let them, which you should." - Pop Matters. "The Bloody Hollies' new record is so dirty, it makes me want to grow a mustache and start wearing v-neck T-shirts. With gritty guitars, stabbing vocal and, oh yes, harmonica, it's like garage rock did a shot of punk and chased it with a glass of blues. - Alternative Press LP $16 SKU:11938
