NEW ARRIVALS

H.P. LOVECRAFT-ST (1967 debut, psych hard rock) Label:COSMIC ROCK Originally released in October 1967 by Philips Records, 'H.P. Lovecraft' is the debut album by the American psychedelic rock band H.P. Lovecraft. The album blended psychedelic and folk rock influences and was marked by the haunting, eerie ambiance of the band's music, which itself was often inspired by the literary works of horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, after whom the band had named themselves. This is possibly one of the best second-division psychedelic albums, that shows the immediately identifiable Edwards-Michaels vocal tandem at its best. With deft touches of folk, jazz and sultry horn arrangements the album was a cult behind his own generation. LP $30 SKU:25274

DECASIA-AN ENDLESS FEAST FOR HYENAS (heavy psych Krautrock style)Label:HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS An Endless Feast For Hyenas' is the Decasia debut album. A creative turning point is gradually taken, looking for more heavy psych and krautrock touches. The first trials of this debut album are directly tested on stage to feel their live impact. This album is a complete and deep dive into the Decasia's universe : a wide, eclectic and powerful effort. The trio drags us quickly with a psychedelic rock sound nuanced with stoner and almost narrative instrumental passages. Taking the path of improvisations to write and compose, the album was recorded in the middle of the countryside in Auvergne (France). The house was transformed into a studio with instruments installed in the barn and the control room in the living room. CD $14 SKU:25313

LORD ELEPHANT- COSMIC AWAKENING (acid space rock)-Label:HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS Cosmic Awakening' is the first offering ever released by Lord Elephant in its lifetime. Rather than concentrate themselves on other outputs, they wanted to celebrate the long road made together as musician and human beings, that made as background in the progressive construction of this album, with a proper debut album, long in its creation as the band itself. Through the episodes of this journey, the trio experienced different moods and sounds on the path, sealing through the dreamy waves of space and acid rock towards the perilous reef of heavy blues, stoner and sludge metal, finding strength and inspiration in the solid cohesion that bound the three of them. Steady rooted in the metal, rock and blues tradition, 'Cosmic Awakening' tries to find a personal manner to melt heavy music and psychedelia, shadows and lights, with a focused starting point, but going to nowhere defined... RAINBIRD-MAIDEN FLIGHT (1970 obscure prog CD only)-Label:SEELIE COURT LTD ED OF 300 Obscure prog from 1970. FLUX -ST (1973 monsterpiece King Crimson style)Label:SEELIE COURT 380 copy limited edition first pressings in mini card gatefold sleeves, from Glass Masters (not cdrs) Searing art rock monsterpiece dominated by a relentlessly coruscating lead guitar sonic attack as if played by a demonically possessed John McLaughlin. Flux is ex-Babe Ruth, ex-Motiffe, with lead guitar by John Grimaldi before he joined Argent and worked on their prog masterpiece 'Circus'. This album is taken from a mono mastertape recorded on a BBC Mobile Unit at a live gig in 1973. A shocked Record Mirror journalist witnessed the concert and described it in a published Record Mirror review as 'a new form of music'. Sound quality is great and this is a band in top form playing exactly what they want, in a zone a bit like King Crimson's 'Red', but with insane guitar leads that bludgeon the listener to death. The vocalist later joined Italian prog rockers Flea On The Honey. Play this with a hangover and you will die in screaming agony. One very short track, and four very long ones. The gig ended with an IRA bomb scare. Yes really. CD $19 SKU:24804

This is the first authorised edition with the band's involvement, the band also coloured an original photo for the cover art of the cd. Includes all tracks in correct order, correctly titled, with the full restored track lengths as well as 5 bonus tracks from the same period, including doom psych tracks such as the uplifting 'My Name Is Death'. CD $20 SKU:24934

FAR OUT- NIHONJIN (WHITE) (Rare 1973 gem)Label:EVERLAND Repress. Some albums are certainly a kind of holy grail for music lovers and collectors of a certain genre, style and era. Far Out with their eponymous debut and unfortunately also farewell album from 1973 have created such a sacred gem. Original copies in good condition change hands for up to $2000 and there are certainly a few not so official reprints on vinyl and CD out on the market which do not even come close to do justice to the greatness of the old original black gold. But here we go with the first ever official vinyl reissue taken directly from the original mastertapes supplied by Nippon Columbia. Everland Music did a brilliant job as usual with their reissues. The cover art with a white glove hanging on a washing line to dry comes on an awesome heavy gatefold sleeve. Including 2 inserts with live photos from back in the day when the band was going wild on stage. This is the real thing for those who still miss the melodies and atmosphere of the late '60s and very early '70s when people had a dream of a peaceful world and who enjoy early German cosmic kraut rock like Amon Düül II, Organisation (later to become Kraftwerk), the debut album by Tangerine Dream and more obscure stuff but also international bands like Pink Floyd, Gong, Twink and Hawkwind just as an East Asian version. A real gem and finally available with the real sound and package again. LP $26 SKU:25093

SEX PISTOLS - SPUNK: THE DEMOS 1976-1977-Label:RADIATION In the history of punk, the Sex Pistols reign supreme; the anarchic quartet changed the history of popular culture forever with their caustic rupture of rock, a mixture of shock and awe that gave two fingers to the establishment, kick-starting a musical revolution. Recorded a few months before their 'Never Mind The Bollocks' debut, 'Spunk' is a revelation, raw demos cut in late 76 and early 77 by producer Dave Goodman, with Glen Matlock's bass far more melodic than what Sid Vicious cut on 'Bollocks'; this edition has bonus demos of 'Anarchy' and 'Pretty Vacant' cut at Denmark Street, as well as an unedited 'No Fun.' Absolutely crucial! LP $26 SKU:25290

TRYP - MY BRAIN COLLAPSED!! Label:TRADING PLACES The roots of 80s English psychedelic freak band The Tryp lie in a hoax perpetuated by Steve Lines’ indie mag Mardenbeat, based in the town of Calne in the Marden Delta, which reviewed a gig by a non-existent band; former JP Sunshine main man Rod Goodway and partner Christine Cotter then gave flesh to the beast with Lines and Paul Ricketts of Unhinged mag, cutting My Brain Collapsed! as an exploration of mushroom-fuelled mental instability. First issued on cassette label Marden tapes and later by Acid Tapes (just as Lines took over from Alan Duffy), this edition is the first on vinyl. LP $26 SKU:25294

HANDS -Caviar Bobsled (70s style prog) -Label:SHROOMANGEL "Hands was originally active back in the '70s, but time and circumstances didn't see them acquire a great deal of success back then. They reformed in 2001 however, and have been a going entity ever since. "Caviar Bobsled" is their most recent studio album, released in 2015 via the US label ShroomAngel Records. The music is deceivingly and subtly complex though, so it really needs a few spins before it will settle with you.” —Windhawk, ProgArchives. "For those who have followed the band, their blend of Gentle Giant, Kansas, Camel, and Happy the Man styled prog remains intact, and there's some truly fabulous material here on Caviar Bobsled. There have been a lot of great prog albums released in 2015, and Caviar Bobsled is certainly one of them. Holding back a bit on the bombast, this latest Hands offering combines intricate prog with lush folk and a touch of jazz-fusion for a sound that instantly tickles the senses and keeps you coming back for more. A truly gorgeous album that I can't recommend highly enough!” —Seaoftranquillity.org

HAZLEWOOD, LEE -Something Special-Label:LITA The three years spent on MGM Records between 1966 and 1968 were golden ones for Lee Hazlewood. He spent them working with his muse, Suzi Jane Hokom, writing a still-unreleased book, The Quiet Revenge of Elmo Furback, competing with Phil Spector from their respective studios, and coming up with the formula for the "boy/girl” songs for which he’d become famous. In fact, the unflattering portrait on the cover of Something Special did little to hint at how hip this late-flowering talent (he was in his late 30s when “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’” made him a star songwriter) had become.

The common strand on the MGM trilogy is one of the unexpected happening. They were an ill fit for a major label–experimental, difficult to pigeonhole, and unpredictable. Those descriptors apply nowhere more aptly than Something Special. Where 1966’s The Very Special World Of Lee Hazlewood and 1967’s Lee Hazlewoodism: Its Cause And Cure had employed an arranger, Billy Strange, and a full orchestra, Something Special stripped things back and brought in a flavor of jazz and blues, complete with gravelly-voiced scatting courtesy of collaborator Don Randi. This sat alongside tracks like “Little War” and “Hands,” the kind of late night, acoustic balladeering Hazlewood would later seize for his career-highlight LP, Requiem For An Almost Lady. The sound was that of a stripped-down nightclub jazz/blues/folk combo, fully rejecting the psychedelic music going on all over the world.

The album made clear that forging a career as a serious star was not at the top of Hazlewood’s agenda, and at the third opportunity, he’d let the listener in on the joke. Tellingly, Hokom recalls Hazlewood saying the MGM albums were his “expensive demos. I’m sure that MGM thought that they would be successful.” Little chance of that with Something Special –it was originally released only in Germany. The same year, Hazlewood founded the LHI imprint, and began building his own empire, one we’ve been lovingly archiving for the past few years. We now present this missing link in the story, three albums that generated some of Hazlewood’s best–and most varied–work.
