GREG ALLEN;S FRINGE RELIGION - 2 song CD single Label: The Elevator Girl/Queen of Dirt Greg Allen’s Fringe Religion is a Boston-based band that formed in 2013 - but they are hardly beginners when it comes to rock and roll. Singer, guitar player and songwriter Greg Allen was in a band with the late great Jerry Nolan (drummer for the New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers). But Greg Allen is no Johnny Thunders clone. Yes, he’s got that guttersnipe, raw guitar tone but he has a unique song writing style that evokes a dystopic world through a cast of twisted characters. Liquid and full guitars rich of bass run into the sidereal space in a vortex of drugged rock! A mix of 60s/70s hard garage (Blue Cheer, The Stooges, Jimi Hendrix Experience, MC5), 80s indie psych (Mudhoney, Spacemen 3, Loop) and current heavy psych sounds (The Heads, Colour Haze, Dead Meadow). DEVO - Miracle Witness Hour (1977 LIVE!) Label:FUTURISMO 'Spuds rejoice, for the Miracle Witness Hour is at hand! In 1977 DEVO played an intimate show to an eager handful at biker bar turned total dive The Eagle Street Saloon in Cleveland, Ohio. Unbeknown to those canny onlookers, they were to testify to the healing power of DEVO! But what of us now? Beautiful mutants fear not, FUTURISMO are here to rectify your late party syndrome. Televised through the antennas of time we give you DEVO’s most intimate unreleased live record ever - Miracle Witness Hour!Released for the first time on any format, this remastered document of de-evolution is finally given the attention it truly deserves. A rare glimpse into the embryonic stages of the groundbreaking band way before the masses knew how to ‘whip-it good’, the Miracle Witness Hour boasts primal versions of the bands most recalled avant-pop songs, juxtaposed against some of their rarer experimental gems. Seemingly fitting for the kind of off the wall experience that would have DEVO’s dehumanised art house sci-fi set against the backdrop of Eagle Streets dingy and ruptured old world interior, it’s the playful live imperfections in this recording that genuinely make the Miracle Witness Hour an original and intimate experience.CD $15 SKU:16798

FROZEN PLANET-1969 FROM THE CENTRE OF A PARALLEL UNIVERSE(Australian psych-/jam-rockers) SPLATTER Label: HEADSPIN The Australian psych-/jam-rockers follow-up their killer album 'Electric Smokehouse' with a next offering. Compared to the previous release this collection sounds at least as trippy, far-out and exciting, but the material is slightly more accessible. Great stuff! Edition on ORANGE-BLACK SPLATTER VINYL. LP $19 SKU:19071

GIDIANS BIBLE -1969:THE GOLDEN VOICE RECORDINGS(60s PSYCH)10” Label:ALONA'S DREAM The story of Gidians Bible started in Illinois' fertile music scene of the late '60s. This EP, featuring the band's entire recorded legacy, contains two songs from the sought after Golden Voice 45 (from 1969) and three unreleased cuts. Unseen pictures and background info are included. LP $16 SKU:19123

This collection from the hard-hitting, bluesy biker-rock outfit led by legendary front man Nicky Moore (Tiger, Samson, Mammoth) contains the band's earliest recordings, roughly dating from the period 1969-'71, and including the previously unreleased heavy psych classic 'Warrior And The Mermaid'. Hackensack was a killer live band and 'Give It Some' is the first vinyl offering since 1974's LP 'Up The Hard Way'. Many of these gritty tracks were recorded to help secure a deal with Island Records, though back in the day that label only issued one single. LP $24 SKU:19377

HAPPY KIDS - Play Their Own Songs - ltd to 300 copies SAALE -Label:GREY PAST Limited edtition 300 copies. It's a well-reported fact that The Happy Kids sneer at true musicianship. They are neither willing to compose, nor to play their instruments properly. Accordingly, at their live shows, they celebrate mass to plagiarizing whatever primitive ditty captures their attention. Ana Threat and Al Bird Dirt mangle their second-hand, second-rate equipment (a cheap, deranged Italian combo-organ and an off-key German Kaufhaus-guitar) accompanied by an audio cassette player that spits out pre-recorded beats at an inappropriate speed and volume. Yet, here it is: "The Happy Kids Play Their Own Songs"; twelve tunes out of which the duo claims the authorship of nine. The oeuvre perhaps wins through its repetitiveness (to put it mildly), which I presume Ms. Threat and Mr. Dirt understand is "art". Frankly, I do not know how they managed to assemble and record an entire album; let alone to persuade a prestigious record company - or even a third-rate pressing plant - to have it manufactured. Plus, I must admit, I am not exactly sure who on earth the producers expect to buy such a record. Still, I am delighted to file the album in my vast collection of contemporary "Rock music", as I am definite that there won't be any one like it to follow. Ever. For people interested in Suicide, the Seeds, The Cramps, DAF, Trio, Sonics, the Astronauts, Ramones, Throbbing Gristle. LP $10 SKU:13210

HARDY FRANCOISE- TOUS LES GARCONS ET LES FILLIES 180 GRAM GATEFOLD - (60s girl pop)Label:FUTURE DAYS Hardy was immortalized in 1964 in a poem by Bob Dylan, she associated with The Stones, and dined with Beatles Paul McCartney and George Harrison. She also soon gained more creative control over her music, and she now distances herself from these early recordings where this was not the case. “Even if I had been able to say something about the production,” she says now, “maybe I would have been listened to, but I didn’t know anything.”
In the album’s title track, Hardy sang about being a soul in torment, and this is the Hardy that emerged–a complicated, pensive outsider, part pop singer, part chanteuse, and utterly unique. And she will forever personify a particularly French brand of cool.LP $16 SKU:17224

HARRIS,TONY -THE TONY HARRIS SONGBOOK 1965-69(Garage pop novelty)-Label: LICORICE SCHTIK 17 songs blending garage, folk, surf, pop and novelty in a delicious energy drink. Anthony "Tony" Harris is the son of Jack H. Harris, the famous movie producer of the original 1958 science fiction horror film 'The Blob'. Tony recorded a pair of fantastic 45s for a Los Angeles-based imprint called Dee Gee Records in the mid-60s. The 'Songbook' LP includes these two superb 45s and explores a brief moment of time in his career for the record industry. Following two records on Triumph in 1965, he became writer-producer for the L.A. based Dee Gee Records till its end in 1966. Harris then started to break into the soundtrack biz. In 1968, he signed with the VMC label and Duke Baxter's 'Everybody Knows Matilda' became his biggest success. The A side of this album is dedicated to the singer and performer and the B side to the producer and arranger. LP $16 SKU:18506

HEAT EXCHANGE- Reminiscence(70S HARD ROCK/PSYCH) Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) Remastered sound; Insert with detailed liner notes and photos, including an introduction by Rich Sheppard (After The Sabbath). Formed in Toronto, Canada, in the late '60s, Heat Exchange are known for their three fantastic 45s for the Yorkville label - released in the early '70s - on which they mixed hard rock with psychedelic, heavy progressive and funk-rock sounds. So, it's a major surprise that in 1972, the band recorded more stuff with the intention of releasing an album. But in the end, the album deal fell through and only four of those tracks were released as part of their 45s. Soon after, the band disbanded. Luckily, the band members have kept a copy of the master tape all these years. So, presented here for the first time ever are the complete Heat Exchange studio recordings, including their three 45s plus the previously unreleased recordings they recorded in 1972 for their never-released LP. Fabulous UK-sounding, heavy progressive, and psychedelic hard rock with top-level musicianship, well-constructed songs, powerful vocals, sax, flute, wah-wah, organ, and a solid rhythm section. RIYL: King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Samurai (UK), Web's I Spider (1970), Human Beast, Deep Purple. LP $20 SKU:18453

HOLY SISTERS OF THE GAGA DADA- Gaga At the Go Go RARE 1988 BOMP RELEASE - WAREHOUSE FIND Label:BOMP ONE COPY ONLY SEALED . A little detour for BOMP, into the world of alternate rock! The Holy Sisters of the Gaga Dada were an eclectic band originally from Santa Cruz, California, USA[1] formed in 1981. They were voted "Best Alternative Rock Band of the Year" by L.A. Weekly.[2] The collaboration of keyboardist Mary Jean Shaffer and guitarist Blancah Black, the Holy Sisters reveled in eccentric, quasi-religious imagery and feminist politics. Other original members included Heidi Puckett (bass) and Jeff Grubic (tenor sax). As the band morphed from conceptual entity to frequent club performers, Black left and two new members were added, Jill Fido (bass) and Charles Bingham (drums). Kim Sockit later replaced Puckett, and Zero Jessephski, Jr. replaced Bingham, making the Holy Sisters of the Gaga Dada an all-female band. The group would later move to Hollywood, California[3] where they were featured in "Once Upon Her Time," a TV program about women in the '80s which aired on the Lifetime Cablevision Network. LP $10 SKU:17055

D.R. HOOKER-The Truth (1972 psych Doors style)Label:VEALS & GEEKS (Belgium) Genuine reissue of D.R. Hooker's The Truth (1972) from the original audio sources; new analog transfer with improved mastering. "It's a miracle any copies of this privately pressed album survived -- but be thankful it did, for here is an individual vision. Some people worry about when we'll run out of oil. A rather smaller proportion of us worry about when we'll run out of discoverable, deep-end thrills like this. There is just no way in the world items like Donald Hooker's 40-year-old privately pressed LP should even exist as a thing -- it more than likely only ran to about 99 copies in its original format, so how the hell did even one of those survive to create these new digital and analogue versions decades later? Connecticut-based Hooker -- a tall, slim hippy with a history of substance abuse -- was much given to wearing the sort of austere robe he sports on the sleeve, a fairly outré move even then. In early 1972 he hired a gang of local scene musicians to flesh out his wonderful songs and after a few brief rehearsals the band began recording. As soon as they were done they split -- some never even heard the finished album, and what a treat they missed. Hooker's arrangements are truly beautiful; a simple, swinging pop song like Weather Girl exists somewhere betweenthe Doors and Curtis Mayfield, whereas The Bible ('If they're knocking the Bible, be sure they are bent/ Just see and you'll understand the book is heaven sent') has the propulsive drive of a pained George Harrisonballad crushed up against some of Neil Young's freeform, string-banging joy. Then there's The Sea, with its rolling religious allegories and the remarkable Free which marries a growling hard rock throb to a vampirically groovy synth line. Hooker's masterpiece is Forge Your Own Chains, which is part conga-led, lounge-funk soul and part, questing psychedelic dream. To think this entirely individual worldview would have once languished, unloved, in a series of under-the-racks cutout bins. And how much more magic like this is there out there?" --Rob Fitzpatrick, "The 101 strangest records on Spotify: DR Hooker -- The Truth," The Guardian, April 24, 2013 CD $14 SKU:17925

All the right ingredients are featured here, like wah-fuzz guitars, organ, phasing and other psychedelic effects. Sometimes, ultimately, you find yourself with extra moments and more ideas than one band can develop. So naturally, it made perfect sense to give that inward creative need an outlet. Fluff is the end result.Cut in one 12-hour studio session, Andy took on the full responsibility of doing a solo album literally. He played every instrument and wrote everything you hear. Reviving an established relationship with Alive Records, on Fluff you can hear the deeply-solid effects of the grunge genre and mid-'90s 'alternative music' in a sonic gestalt. Exhibiting characteristics of fairly recent genres, as well as some classics that surrounded him during his youth, Fluff breaks barriers of seemingly comfortable, unthreatening music cultivating a physical embodiment of Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, latter Beatles and even Brian Wilson!
Fluff defines Andy's environment, a creative environment... an environment of ultra-dimensional levels. The days of solo albums being released due to further 'artistic development' past a bands catalog of hits, are over. Buffalo Killers continue their successful run and now, it's not running alone. Fluff is the start of something great and fathers the true sonic beauty and the relative nature of one single person and their soundtrack of nearly unending smiles in a sea of tumultuous frowns. - Shawn Abnoxious LP $10 SKU:16540

GIGYMEN- ST( obscure 70s private press)-Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS (Spain) the first ever reissue of this lost treasure, originally an obscure private pressing of just 100 copies. Stunning folk-rock / folk-pop with pro-recorded sound, superb musicianship and strong songwriting. With influences ranging from Fairport Convention to The Beatles, here you'll find some superb folk-rock adaptations of traditional songs such like "As I roved out", "Gypsy Laddie" and "Rocky Road to Dublin" along with fab folk-pop with Beatlesque vocals on tracks like "Plain Jane" or "Gone are the days". HACIENDA - Big Red and Barbacoa ( prod by Dan of the Black Keys ) (YELLOW VINYL ltd ed last copies ) Label:ALIVE BIG RED & BARBACOA is the second album by South Texas' HACIENDA, and like its predecessor Loud Is The Night (Alive 2008), it was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. Recorded on the tail-end of a year playing clubs and festivals across North America, Australia and Europe (opening for Dan Auerbach and Dr. Dog, and more recently for Alberta Cross), this new album brings heavier grooves and flavor to the '60s harmonies sound the band is known for. The result is a blend of Tex-Mex roots rock, retro-pop and R&B that can only be described as South Texas Soul. BIG RED & BARBACOA captures the attitude of a band ready to throw pretension to the roadside and play rock'n'roll the way it was intended.[BEST OF WHAT'S NEXT - FEB. 2010] ...a mix of Beach Boys-esque harmonies, classic Stax Records grooves and a guitar sound that recalls the rootsier side of '60s pop-rock with its swirling melodies and irresistible swagger. - PASTE MAGAZINE LP $16 SKU:11391

HANDSOME JACK- Do What Comes Naturally (hard-grooving fusion of blues, R&B, and garage)Label:ALIVE Naturally” hits with blues fused rock and roll that truly grips you. There’s a certain charm in the mix… A real honesty that you find in those nowadaysands that are sectioned off from the mainstream… Handsome Jack deliver a confidence that only you can accept or deny. The truth isn’t for just anyone these days. The only factor that suffers with a band like Handsome Jack is the reality of the fact, that music, of any genre, suffers. There is a lot of music out ‘there’ riding invisible rays and available thru a multitude of formats and accessibilities. You gotta dig deep and find what connects with you before it’s lost in the shuffle of the beast called Right Fucking Now. As listens of “Naturally” tallied, the more and more I appreciated the release as a whole… The sorts of fondness that would not be found in a big-shot music reviewer scanning ten seconds of each track then spit out a few adjectives to coincide with that press release. Fuck that.Rock N Roll isn’t dead if you don’t want it to be. Let’s try to spend some time with a CD or record or whatever, to connect once again. Yes, it comes naturally to just hit the button to most, but not because we want to, it’s because some have too. Take some time with “Naturally”. Turn it up. Sit a while. Open up your mind and your ears. You just might like something after all without being given permissions by the industry. LP $16 SKU:16214

HEAD -ST ( Obscure 60s style psych Creem, Led Zep style ) last copies - Label:VOXX Unfairly, this album has always remained obscure, even among Voxx releases. Perhaps this is due to their style, which is freeform and creative, rather than the formulaic approach audiences seem to prefer. With influences ranging from Cream to Led Zep to little-known British bands like July, Head blew a lot of minds in Los Angeles in the early '90s with their light show and extended trip-jams. For their album debut, they chose a different approach: using all the studio tricks at their command to make a finely-crafted collage of sounds designed to flow through a listener's most spaced-out headphone session. But this long album also includes most of their live freakout favorites, and there are frequent moments of sublime ensemble playing. [12/92] Greg Shaw LP $15 SKU:2295

REVIEW:
It's ironic that '60s revivalist bands often produce records that are as rare and difficult to find as the records from which their material is sourced. Such is the case for this Midwest band's fantastic 1980 Bomp LP, "Hypstrization!" Despite the backing from Bomp, the album went unnoticed by many ardent garage rock fans, only to attain a level of cult desirability among collectors in later years. The band themselves were an anachronism, reviving mid-60s garage rock in the teeth of late-70s punk, thrilling and confounding audiences in fraternal halls, local ballrooms and bowling alleys throughout the upper Midwest. What made it work, and what comes across so clearly on these live recordings, is that the group was fully committed to the sounds they produced, and the fuel of fellow punk bands (both local like The Suicide Commandos, and god-like, such as The Ramones) made their snarling, thrashing garage rock a lot more than a pose. REAL KIDS-Shake Outta Control - 180-GRAM -Label:UGLY POP t's been 38 years since Boston's REAL KIDS debuted with the finest rock'n'roll record ever committed to tape, and now they're back with a long-awaited new full-length on legendary hometown label Ace Of Hearts and Canada's Ugly Pop. Of course, long time fans can always be excused some apprehension when a band of this vintage presents new material so deep into their career, but there's no cause to fret here. “Shake...Outta Control” is a fantastic return to form, a strong set of powerful, memorable and engaging songs that do absolute justice to this band's legacy. While some bands lose track of their own soul in forced attempts at progression, and others risk diminishing returns by simply treading the water of their earlier work, 2014 finds the Real Kids negotiating this path beautifully. Boasting both the raw energy and tough hooks of 1977 and the matured chops and expanded palette of frontman John Felice's “Nothing Pretty” LP, the dozen songs on this disc settle easily among the band's best work. Producer Rick Harte guides with an expert hand, integrating Hammond organ and pedal steel seamlessly into a full yet suitably unpolished whole, and the songs run the gamut from quieter but intense ballads like a definitive new “Common At Noon” and a sublime take on Jonathan Richman's “Fly Into The Mystery” to fast-paced rockers like “All Night Boppin'” (powered along by highly caffeinated barroom piano) and of course the instant classic title track, a high-energy gem anchored by the sort of classic Boston punk rock'n'roll riff that made this band's name. Culminating in an incendiary “Who Needs You?”, this is a genuine Real Kids record that will thrill new fans and old alike. Superbly mastered at New York's renowned Sterling Sound, the “Shake...Outta Control” LP was cut 100% analog direct from tape and pressed at RIP-V on 180G vinyl for an incredible high-quality deluxe package.
