PEBBLES - Vol 1 1978- THE VERY FIRST TEST PRESSING!!! Label:MASTERCHARGE On Alshire Records. This is the first test of the FIRST PEBBLES, with the PINK COVER.(The pink cover is from a later pressing however) AS A LITTLE BONUS, the writing on the plastic sleeve with the catalogue number is GREG SHAW'S!!!
PEBBLES VOL. 1 is now a legitimate anthology of rare and vintage garage rock singles from the style's 1960s heyday. The point of the PEBBLES compilations has always been that they take it as given that the listener is familiar with the best-known works in the style, such as the Count Five's "Psychotic Reaction." So these tracks are filled with the more obscure and often downright unhinged, like the Elastik Band's "Spazz," one of the most incoherent and bizarre singles ever released by a major label, or the Outcasts' apocalyptic study of disaffection, "I'm In Pittsburgh (And It's Raining)." This makes PEBBLES VOL. 1 an excellent second step into the garage rock underground. Charity Stafford COMP LP $175 SKU:22362

MANAL-ST -ST(early Argentine rock 1970)Label:SONY/BMG (Argentina) Manal was an early Argentine rock group. Together with Almendra and Los Gatos, they are perceived as the founders of Argentine rock. The band members were Claudio Gabis, Alejandro Medina and Javier Martínez. Manal was the first act to sign to Mandioca, the pioneer label created by producers Jorge Álvarez and Pedro Pujó. First came a string of great singles, and then the first Manal album (1970). The lyrics are thick with references to the streets; the music is imaginative blues rock with sinuous guitar lines. The most remarkable moments are ‘Jugo de Tomate’ (Manal's most popular song), ‘Avenida Rivadavia’ (about the longest avenue in Buenos Aires), ‘Una casa con diez pinos,’ ‘Informe de un día’, and ‘Avellaneda blues’ (a tango-blues about the suburbs). The trio sounds great and Gabis’ performance is brilliant. The second LP, “El León” (RCA Vik LZ 1176, 1971), is a more rock oriented LP, but still well within the basic sound outlined on the first album. It features great songs like ‘Blues de la amenaza nocturna,’ ‘Paula,’ and ‘Si no hablo de mí.’ Shortly after it was released Manal split. Medina and Gabis went on to join La Pesada, and record albums with (and for) Billy Bond, Kubero Diaz, as well as under their own names. These limited edition CDs come in a nice digipacks. MATADORS - GET DOWN FROM THE TREE- rare Czechoslovakian 60s beat psych!) Label:MUNSTER Studio recordings from 1966-1968 for the first time ever appear as a complete collection. From the early twist instrumentals through to solid R&B/soul covers and up to their classic psychedelic freakbeat originals, all tracks have been remastered from the original analogue master tapes. Even 40 years after they disbanded, the legendary Matadors still remain one of the best known "big beat" bands from former Czechoslovakia. Some of the original members would continue with munch-respected groups such as The Blue Effect or Emergency CD $10 SKU:20129

MAYFIELD'S MULE - ST (60s Brit pop psych )Label:NIGHTWINGS Guitarist, vocalist and songwriter CHRIS MAYFIELD began to play at the beginning of the Sixties in local Kent band The MORAL SET, then went on to the usual plethora of bands and sessions, playing with the earliest NIRVANA, JOHN GUSTAFSON, GENE LATTER and IAN HUNTER among the others. In 1968 after a few disappointing musical adventures, Chris joined AMEN CORNER as a roadie/driver, but his girlfriend passed some of his demos to Amen's sax player, MIKE SMITH, who immediately got them to various labels, EMI approved and immediately signed Chris to a recording deal. PETE SAUNDERS (k), STEVE BRADLEY (b) and ex-ELASTIC BAND SEAN JENKINS (d) soon joined and MAYFIELD's MULE was born. Three Parlophone singles were recorded in a few months and the band also began to work on an album at Abbey Road studios. But something went wrong and the LP was apparently shelved, gaining instead an incredible Uruguayan release on local Emi-Odeon label, without any involvement and knowledge from the band. Mayfield's Mule went on for a while longer, recruiting brothers MIKE and ANDY SCOTT, and then called it a day. While Sean Jenkins played a few months with HENRY COW and Andy Scott resurfaced in The SWEET, Chris Mayfield joined forces with JOHN KONGOS to record some demos of his new material. He then met up with an old friend from Kent NOEL REDDING (late of Jimi Hendrix Band and Fat Mattress) and they formed the shortlived BRAIN POLICE, which became (without Chris) ROAD and finally The NOEL REDDING BAND. This CD contains all the best Mayfield's Mule recordings, drawing from both the singles and the album. The music is basically rock but with hints of prog, blues, rural and even a bit of soul thrown in. All tracks have been digitally remastered from the original tapes, licensed by EMI UK. The 12 pages booklet features the band's detailed story, with never-seen-before photos and Mayfield's own anecdotes. CD $10 SKU:9498

McCann,James & the New Vindictives-Gotta Lotta Move (PISTOLS MOTORHEAD STYLE)-Label:OFF THE HIP McCann’s latest album with the New Vindictives, Gotta LottaMove - Boom!, released on vinyl on French label Beast Records and on CD on Off the Hip, sees McCann return to the punk rock roots that inspired him as a teenager. Featuring a co-write with Penny Ikinger (I Can Control Your Mind) and a cover of Spencer P Jones’ Life in Jail, Gotta Love Move - Boom! is nine doses of punk-spiked rock’n’roll guaranteed to kick you into excitement. This is a record awash with the punk attitude of the Sex Pistols, the rhythmic brutality of Feedtime and the leather-clad rock’n’roll passion of Motörhead. CD $8 SKU:19181

MCCOYS -Hang on Sloopy: Best of the McCoys (65-67 fuzz rock)-Label:RETROWORLD he McCoys had their biggest hit with the simple, infectious crunch of 'Hang On, Sloopy’; The McCoys are also famous for spawning the long career of guitar player Rick Derringer. But that’s not the whole story of the band—between 1965 and 1967 The McCoys had eight Top 100 songs on The Bang Label! Three of those were Top 40 and a fourth song just missed the Top 40. "One aspect of this CD that hasn't been emphasized is how incredibly well it was recorded. The sound is astonishingly life-like; on a few songs, it sounds as if the band is playing right in your living room (aided by the stereo mix from master tapes). Also, the version of 'Beat the Clock' included here is the full-length version, not the abridged radio version. The highlight of this album for me is the snaky fuzz guitar/electric piano riff on "Got to Go Back"--way cool.” CD $12 SKU:21292

TRIP IN TIME- Vol 3 Psychedelic Adventures On Planet Earth Label:WORLD IN SOUND This is the 3rd Chapter of the Trip In Time Psychedelic Series, and at least as interesting as the previous ones, only unreleased material! - It presents 18 of the recent Top-Hard-Psych-Garage-Kraut-Underground Bands (several from Scandinavia and Germany, but also from Spain, France, US, Peru), listening to this Compilation you will NOT believe that all songs are contemporary recordings (most are very well produced but reflect a very intense RETRO-SPIRIT - nearly unbelievable). The music itself ranges from hard&heavy "Doors" Sound, Pink Floyd style, Blues Hard Rock a la Mountain, true 60s Garage Beat but also early Amon D2 or Brainticket flashes. A running time of 78 mins + a 12p booklet will guide the way to the music of TOMORROW. COMP CD $14 SKU:19721

VELVET REVOLUTIONS- VOL. 2:1968-1971 VA (Iron Curtain 60s psych!)- Label:PARTICLES Eastern bloc rock! 'Velvet Revolution Volume Two' celebrates the hugely innovative and unique sound that was engineered behind the infamous Iron Curtain in cold war Eastern Europe. Enigmatic, bizarre and genious are just a few words that could describe this music, yet they only offer brief praise of the overlooked craft created by a generation whose hindered hopes and dreams were recorded in the 1960s and 1970s. These sounds survive as monumental works in their own right and stand as a testament to their art whilst serving a lesson to those in the west who thought they knew it all. COMP CD $10 SKU:20137

LIGHTMAN, AARON -ST (HIDDEN pop GEM 1969)-Label:WAH WAH This amazing LP from 1969 is one of the most beautiful hidden gems in the field of pop arranged singer-songwriters. Originally issued on Poppy Records, home of psych heads The Mandrake Memorial among others, Lightman's deserves to be discovered by all the fans of the soft rock, orchestra arranged sounds. Credit for the arrangements and production goes to the great Ron Frangipane and David Christopher, who is also credited as a co-writer of the albums songs. LIVING SACRIFICE BAND-Beauty for ashes (75-82 West Coast Xtian heavy rock) - Label:ANAZITISI From 1975 to 1982 the Living Sacrifice Band would play literally hundreds of concerts from the west coast to the east coast and privately produce 3 albums between 1977 and 1981. "Beauty for ashes" is their second one, from 1979. Side A contains 5 pleasant xian folk-rock ballads, with beautiful female vocals and excellent flute and keyboards work, reminiscent of early 70's UK bands. Side B seems to be different enough, containing three extended rock (you could even call them heavy rock) tracks with female and male vocals as well and lots of fuzzy, distorted guitars, and wild flute leads. 3 tracks of the album are (co-)written by Jim and Vicky Tsapatoris of Last Call Of Shiloh fame. This is an officialy reissue, represented here with the original B/W cover which is much rarer than the second edition from 1980, with the well-known "Flower Girl" cover. Fully laminated cover. Includes extra triptych (6-pages LP-sized) insert with bio, photos, lyrics and memorabilia and a reproduction of the second 1980 edition's ("Flower Girl") front and back cover. MAD TIMOTHy-A Very Snug Joiner (prev. unknown late ‘60s/ early ‘70s acetate heavy blooz-psych- SAALE!Label:OUT-SIDER MUSIC First ever release for this previously unknown late ‘60s/ early ‘70s acetate, rescued from a thrift store in Chicago. Damaged heavy blooz-psych in the vein of Blue Cheer, Majic Ship, Mount Rushmore, Houston Fearless, Apryl Fool, Sweet Slag, Mutzie, Aum, Screw, or a wasted teenage Canned Heat.In these digital and interconnected times, it’s very rare to find an album from the 60s-70s which hasn’t been documented or “discovered” yet. That’s the case with a mysterious demo LP titled “A Very Snug Joiner” by a band called Mad Timothy. In words of Steve Krakow (of Plastic Crimewave / Galactic Zoo): “A friend of mine found this no-jacket LP at a thrift shop, and there is ZERO information on them--no one knows anything and I've spoken to many collectors. Very cool sludgy Blue Cheer/Majic Ship/Mount Rushmore kind of vibe--with a few folkier tracks---it’s all pretty charmingly primitive-- I think people would want to hear this!”Even knowing that our efforts to track down the band were fruitless, we thought that this rarity deserved to be shared with the world, so we at Out-Sider / Guerssen in collaboration with Steve’s Galactic Archive imprint, are doing a vinyl edition of the Mad Timothy demo album, hoping that any of the band members will see it and contact us…*The audio has been lovingly restored for full thudding blastage, with new artwork by underground sculptor Robert Buchholz and Plastic Crimewave (Galactic Zoo Dossier LP $22 SKU:20837

MAZINGA PHASER -Cruising In The Neon Glories Of The New American Night long defunct and o/p SAALE!Label:AETHER RECORDS Psychedelic space rock group from Denton, Texas active during the latter half of the 1990s. Upon their formation in 1994, Jessica Nelson (vocals/keyboards), Cole Wheeler (bass), Wanz Dover (guitar/programming), Eric Hermeyer (guitar), and Mike Throneberry (drums) would be otherwise known as Mazinga Phaser in their native of Denton, TX. Playing out a thick but melodic hybrid of psychedelia and space rock, the band would capture this sound on their first full-length, "Cruising the Neon Glories of the New American Night," through Aether Records in 1996. Not too long after relocating to Fort Worth, TX, Idol Records eventually put out their second album, Abandinallhope, in 1997 and the follow-up EP, Counting Breaths, two years later. But after their third album, Dissatisfied Customers of Hallucination, in 2000, Mazinga Phaser called it a day with Dover moving on with Falcon Project. The band's "Dream of Lost Rivers" was used in David Gordon Green's 2001 film George Washington LP $10 SKU:20563

HIGHER STATE - In The Morning (psych-folk spirit of ’66 )Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE “In The Morning I Will Roam” b/w “Winter Is Blue” The psych-folk spirit of ’66 comes jangling through the mists of time with the profound sounds and imagery of “In The Morning I Will Roam”, transporting those who listen intently into the pensive, rustic realm of classic British troubadours, from Donovan Leitch to Vashti Bunyan.“Winter Is Blue” is, in fact, one of Vashti’s own early classics, transformed into a perfect complement to the A-side by The Higher State’s visionary take on her obscure contribution to 1968’s “Tonite Let’s All Make Love In London” soundtrack. 45 RPM $10 SKU:21478

LOOSE - Untamed - 4 songs (Italian punk)- Label:ROCKIN HOUSE Italian swagger punks that sound like they like to fight. "Untamed!" is a fitting title, what with the gang-land vox and the psychoactive guitars, and Loose play some seriously muscular sleazepunk here. Of the four tracks, I'm gonna finger "Cool as Fuck" as the highlight, both for it's winning subject matter and it's punchy chorus, but any of 'em ought to get your motor running. 45 RPM $2 SKU:7781

In 1964, they made their first recordings for Discos Peerless, often covering the hits of foreign groups to great success. MANKEY, EARL- - Mau Mau /Crazy orig 1978 pressing! w pic slv.Label:BOMP/Exhibit J (Orig pressing of BOMP spinoff label, Exhibit J) rare by legendary producer “ In this one short song, there is enough pure-pop majesty to fill your week's quota of such grand music. Earle Mankey was a founding member of the odd new-wave 80's band, Sparks. Mankey has some serious production credits to his name too, including Concrete Blonde's first album.
"Mau Mau" begins with a jungle drum beat and a chorus of low voiced fellows singing "Ugachukka, ugachukka" over and over again. The song makes an abrupt left turn when Mankey begins singing about an African "...who can take his love any way he can, by the point of spear, by the point of knife" in his distant pop voice over a tinkley synth sound. Mankey builds layer upon layer in the chorus, with guitars ultimately building to a "Baba O'Rielly" guitar riff. You don't find sublime pop-rock like this everyday, but when you do, it's quite a treat. -- Doug Cornell, 45 RPM $5 SKU:4824

HOMER - ST (70s Texas psych hard rock ) Label:GEAR FAB An historic release in digipak format. Homer was one of the best psychedelic/hard rock bands to come out of Texas.hey had their early beginnings as the Outcasts and some members played on the Stoics/Mind's Eye 45s reissued on The Children Anthology. While their 1970 LP is very highly rated and rated R4 in rarity, their three 45s are even rarer. Newly discovered tapes have uncovered unreleased songs and demos. All are included in this comprehensive collection. A very young Christopher Cross participated on some of the tracks. CD $10 SKU:14119

LEOPOLD, PERRY - Experiments in Metaphysics (70s hippie artifact)Label:GEAR FAB Experiment in Metaphysics is one of the rarest and most sought-after artifacts of the hippie era. Recorded live during a five-hour session in the basement of a shoe-repair shop in June of 1970, most of the 300 original copies of Experiment in Metaphysics were simply given away in one afternoon, yet, inexplicably, bootleg copies of the album later sprang up half-way around the world. The reason for the album's staying power is apparent: the music is gorgeous, first-rate progressive folk. In fact, Side Two of the original LP's label was given the title "Acid-Folk" (the other side was called "Kommercial"), probably one of the very first uses of that term. Perry Leopold creates a proto-gothic ambience full of dark and brooding imagery that is much less cartoonish than most of what passes as "acid," while maintaining that music's visceral punch. Like much of the youth countercultural scene of the times, Leopold can occasionally give into mystical pretentiousness. Experiment in Metaphysics has moments -- namely the spoken-word monologue in the middle of the mostly stellar opening cut, "The Absurd Paranoid" -- of philosophical meandering. Still, even those moments maintain a period charm. Experiment in Metaphysics is exquisitely intelligent and forward-looking. Leopold's mood is much more pious than most music that came out of the psychedelic era, and, indeed, extreme piety tends to be a product of youth, yet there is something aged and wise about Leopold's music. The "Kommercial" side, cryptically subtitled "SMOKE," is conceptually bleak, and after "The Absurd Paranoid," it takes on a much more palpable quality, grounded in experience ("Cold in Philadelphia" and the gorgeous "The 35th of May"). The "Acid-Folk" side (subtitled "DROP") opens with the stark, multi-part title track. Each of the three songs in this section is a virtual mini-suite, with the closing cut, "The U.S.S. Commercial," standing as the album's magnum opus. Experiment in Metaphysics shows some truly progressive and experimental songwriting, even for the time period. Each song, even the instrumental cuts, feels like a story, with beginnings and endings and all kinds of interesting ideas and storylines sandwiched in between. The album is a relic that has not lost one iota of its power. ~ Stanton Swihart CD $10 SKU:22317

MARK “PORKCHOP” HOLDER- Let It Slide ( founding member of the seminal Tennessee punk rock blues band The Black Diamond Heavies !) Label:ALIVE Guitarist, singer, harmonica player, and songwriter MARK PORKCHOP HOLDER is a founding member of the seminal Tennessee punk rock blues band The Black Diamond Heavies (with John Wesley Myers aka James Leg, and Van Campbell of the band King Mud).

MARK PORKCHOP HOLDER plays the blues, and his music is the sound of the truth. He has traveled around the world and the US, and played at festivals, clubs, in the streets, at churches, in public toilets, army surplus stores, and in a mental hospital or two. After more than a decade of struggling with depression and addiction, he has finally come back home, in Chattanooga TN, and assembled a first rate power trio.

His debut “Let It Slide” is a blistering blues album that marries both the modern and the traditional. “Let It Slide” has been described by the Chattanooga Pulse as “Boogie, sans bullshit. Dirty roadhouse music. Juke Joint jamming. Swamp rock. Too rock for blues, too blues for rock, the music is hungry, hard and mean." CD $10 SKU:18298

MARLEY, BOB & THE WAILERS- Roots of a Legend CD plus DVD- OVERSTOCK SALE! Label:TROJAN these tracks, drawn from two classic Trojan Records albums (“African Herbsman” and “Soul Rebel”)—recorded before the band signed to Island and modified their sound for rock audiences—are the high water mark for Bob Marley & the Wailers for many fans of Jamaican music, myself included. This excellence is in no small part thanks to producer Lee "Scratch" Perry. The Perry/Marley collaboration resulted in some all-time classics, tracks which many fans consider to be the very best work either of them ever did! A genius band, and a genius producer, finding their way, with simple arrangements, a churning, driving sound largely missing from Marley's more famous efforts, and beautiful high harmonies from Peter Tosh. Not a mere historical footnote, for the music here is highly creative and original—soulful perfection. This collection combines several of the Perry tracks (‘Sun Is Shining,’ ‘Duppy Conqueror,’ ‘African Herbsman,’ ‘Mr. Brown’) with those produced by Leslie Kong (‘Soul Shakedown Party’) and by the Wailers themselves (‘Trench Town Rock,’ ‘Lively Up Yourself,’ both of which were originally released on the group's own Tuff Gong label). There are literally hundreds of editions of this material on the market—some legally licensed, some not—but “Roots of a Legend” is among the best, with excellent slip-case packaging and sound. A bonus DVD featuring footage from Marley's 1980 tour (undertaken just 17 months before his death) in support of the “Survival” album is also included. To recap. twenty-one beautiful tracks, plus a region-free DVD of Bob Marley live in concert from 1980. Amazing! (Trojan CD $5 SKU:20299

MASON-HARBOUR (70s Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Grand Funk) style aCID ARCHIVE FAVE!) Label:GEAR FAB Smokin' heavy rock with an early progressive sound and overtones of folk and blues from Virginia, 1971. Originally released on the Eleventh Hour label, which also released Polyphony's Without Introduction (OSR 024LP, 1971). Powerful vocals, loud guitar, flute, and killer Hammond organ -- think Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Grand Funk... Master tape sound; includes repro of the original multi-page insert plus liner notes. "This is an interesting and diverse hard-rock album. If you can picture slow, organ-rich heavy prog, jazzy sax instrumentals, and snappy riff rockers, you'll have an idea of what you're in store for there. There's an air of professionalism usually absent from this kind of self-made records. 'Tell Me' has a fuzz guitar tone to die for." --Aaron Milenski, The Acid Archives CD $10 SKU:22026

Great 1991 album by Canadian blues singer, guitarist, and pianist Dutch Mason. MATEO, EDUARDO- Mateo Solo Bien Se Lame (1972 Uruguay Nick Drake style ) - Label:LION From its first moments, the music is lilting, poetic, intimate, in turns life-affirming and melancholic, with pulsating percussion backed by unheard-of guitar chords and tunings (perhaps the reason for the frequent Caetano Veloso and Nick Drake comparisons); it is an album that sounds, simply put, honest. The record was released at the end of 1972 in both Argentina and Uruguay, and was received from that first moment as a classic in those countries, a position it still occupies today." CD $10 SKU:5752

MCKINLEY, WILSON- Message Brought To Us – Anthology (XTian psych ) Label:TANIGNAK (USA) The only legitimate Wilson McKinley release, now available to all! With beginnings firmly in the secular realm and a strong following in the Northwest, the band signed to Alshire Records (home of 101 Strings) and recorded one LP (Honky Tonk Women) under the label's "acid-rock" moniker, The California Poppy Pickers. With the proceeds from the album sessions the band self-released a 7" EP in 1970 and soon met street minister Carl Parks, giving up the rock 'n' roll lifestyle and effectively ending the first incarnation of the group. The minister encouraged the remaining bandmembers to pick up their instruments again to create some music for a street meeting, and the first "Jesus Rock" group was born. This 21-track compilation includes selections from all three of their original LP's (On Stage, Spirit Of Elijah and Heaven's Gonna Be A Blast), their first cassette (Country In The Sky) and one unreleased track from 1973. With the exception of the On Stage material, all tracks are sourced from the original tape reels, which were subject to excessive reverb or careless mastering at the time of original LP manufacture. SHORTCROSS - Arising (1972 Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Grand Funk Railroad style)-Label:GEAR FAB AllMusic Review by Stanton Swihart [-]Opening with song titles such as "Nothin' But a Woman," "Wastin' Time," "Suicide Blues," and "Just Don't Care," Short Cross made no secret on their sole 1972 album, Arising of the fact that they aspired to make hard blues-rock like their idols -- Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Grand Funk Railroad -- were creating. Sure enough, the album is a piece of competently played blues-rock. All the bandmembers are quality musicians: the drums fall into a nice groove, the basslines soar and dip, and there is no shortage of good guitar licks CD $10 SKU:18655

TWO TIMING BABY -Ember Sixties Pop: Volume 2, 1961-1962Label:FANTASTIC EMBER In 1960, Jeffrey Kruger launched Ember Records as an independent, one of very few in the UK, where the majors held sway. Straight away, the label set about trying to break into the charts with many fine pop releases. The Ember Sixties Pop series compiles the best of those records. “Two Timing Baby” picks up the story from where Say When: Ember Sixties Pop Volume 1 (FVCD044) left off. Carter, Lewis & The Southerners first Ember single ‘Two Timing Baby’/’Will It Happen To Me’ features Joe Meek engineering, Geoff Goddard on piano, Albert Lee on guitar, Chas Hodges on bass and Bobby Graham on drums. The Meek connection continues with Mark Douglas only single: Joe produced ‘It Matters Not’/’Upside Down’ and Tornado Clem Cattini confirms he drums on both tracks. American songwriters Buddy Kaye and Phil Springer penned many hits, including ‘The Next Time’ for Cliff Richard. They brought several songs to Ember and Grant Tracy was the adaptable vocalist on ‘The Great Matchmaker’/’The Tears Came Rolling Down’ and the follow-up flip ‘Taming Tigers.’ Other beneficiaries of the prolific Kaye and Springer were Johnny Carson (‘Are You Anyone s Girl’/’Teenage Bachelor’ and, again, ‘The Tears Came Rolling Down’) and Sandra Gale (‘Hello Heartache’/’If She s Right For You’) who had been girl singer with the Ray Ellington Quartet, joining Ember when Ellington did. Kruger chose the songs for Lita Roza’s single with the aim of moving her sound towards pop and rock n roll, and she turns in fine performances on ‘Mama (He Treats Your Daughter Mean)’/’(He s My) Dreamboat,’ aided by a driving band led by Tony Crombie. Brooklyn-born Kerry Adams recorded her single in New York, conducted by future soul giant Jerry Ragovoy. The Dale Sisters cute harmonies are evident on their second Ember single, ‘Road To Love’/’Secrets.’ Tommy Sanderson’s second Ember 45 combined trad-jazz ‘Ding Dong Rag’ with groovy ‘Piano A Go Go,’ which would have made a great theme for a TV detective show. Many of these original singles are highly collectable (mint copies of Mark Douglas are valued at £75, Carter, Lewis & The Southerners at £50 and Lita Roza at £30). Subsequent volumes will carry the story through to the end of the sixties, with further sought after tracks included. The series is complemented by compilations devoted to beat and rock from the Ember vaults. Recordings are mastered from tape, where available, and booklets illustrated with sleeve and label shots. Nice shrink-wrapped slip-case packaging. COMP CD $8 SKU:19205

LONESOME SHACK - City Man(Great boogie blues groove)Label:KNICK KNACK On the surface, it's easy to burrow into City Man and imagine it was recorded in some Mississippi juke joint a long, long time ago (accentuated by the fact that Todd pushes both his guitar and the vocal through the same little amp). But when you put an ear to what's really going on, you start hearing all the subtle-but-wild-ass stuff Garrard's doing - or the cool how-did-he-do-that riffs Todd pulls, tugs, and flecks out of his Tiesco's strings or Bergman's not-what-you-would've-expected-was-going-to-happen approach to blues bass. And therein lies the secret to Lonesome Shack: you can have a happy, casual hangout with City Man and have a good time or you can dig into the thing as deeply as you like and find a treasure trove of mind-blowing grooves that go somewhere beyond the traditional. --Brian Robbins,, January 1, LP $16 SKU:21850

Led by local legend Bootsey X, a.k.a. Robert Mulrooney (ex Ramrods), the Detroit band cranks it up, puts it into drive and rocks - hard.” - L. Anderson / CMJ LP $10 SKU:4491

This was his last attempt at doing so with an album before turning to a travel television show to visit faraway places and talk to the young and old, one on one. Every production trick of the glorious 1970s was deployed to push Barı up the European charts, and now they can push him right into your brain instead LP $17 SKU:20788

METABOLISME -Tempus Fugit (1977 French prog )SAALE!-Label:REPLICA (France): First inspired by hard-rock as played by Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, the band then discovered the works of Uriah Heep. With the help of keyboards player Thierry Scaduto, a symphonic touch added a nice aspect to the music. Under the influence of Genesis, Yes and Premiata Forneria Marconi, Metabolisme changed its musical style to play Progressive rock. Signed to RCA's Crypto sub-label, Metabolisme were great at dark atmospheres, processed fuzzy guitars and lost vocals. When they burst out of a slow number and rip into a tight ensemble piece you might hear touches of Arachnoid. The spacey Pink Floyd atmosphere recalls Pulsar, especially at the time of "Pollen" . The album opens with the longest track, nearly 16 minutes of pure delight, featuring two lush keybords passages and great guitar chops. One instrumental track, 'Tempus,' shows that they were capable to creat great prog rock, with captivating guitar keyboard parts. Released as late as 1977, the album didn't stand a chance of making it to a larger audience in a time in which punk rock started its devastating heyday. The music offered on the album was far to fine- drawn for the period in which it was released. Still, Metabolisme's "Tempus Fugit," their one and only album, is a treasure for those who love lush organs in the style of Yes, sophisticated guitars Uriah Heep and French vocals a la Mona Lisa. Is that you? then you need to buy this record. LP $24 SKU:21016

METAPHYSICAL ANIMATION-ST SAALE! (ultra obscure Floridan psych/prog 1973
) DBL Label:BLACK WIDOW Reissue of an ultra obscure Floridan psych/prog album from 1973. Less than 50 copies were pressed at the time, housed in a plain white demo sleeve with the band name hand-written in pen on the cover. Classic '70s prog, with significant elements of fusion and psychedelic rock. Sometimes it sounds like a take on 'Close To The Edge'. Other times it sounds like Rick Wakeman briefly joined Pink Floyd during the 'Wish You Were Here' sessions. And then there are the tracks that sound like a looser, more electrified Graham Bond Organization. LP $25 SKU:21510
