TRIZO 50 -50th Anniversary Collection (3xCD deluxe edition IN 7" SIZE package) “… full-on Nuggets ‘60s garage".CD
DEPUGHIn 1973, the legendary Missouri folk-psych band Phantasia changed both its name and musical direction. With an expanded line-up, Trizo 50 careened madly between power pop, glam, psychedelia, proto-metal, pre-punk, hard rock, soft rock and garage. (Hah — yes, there certainly are a lot of different genre categories touched on by Trizo 50 — and all worth hearing!). Recorded in a small rural town of just 900 people, the 100x copies of their demo album quickly sank into obscurity, only re-emerging decades later on the collector’s market, now fetching well more than $1,000 per copy.
Fifty years later, Trizo 50 band member Bob DePugh has re-mixed and re-mastered the original demo album from the original 4-track tapes for a private press, limited edition run of just 200x copies — as well as an equally limited 3xCD set that includes virtually all of the band’s recorded output. Recent reviews of the soon-to-be collectible release reference bands as diverse as T. Rex, Raspberries, Zombies, Big Star, The Beach Boys & Nazz. And we have to say, all of those references make sense.
Straddling the 1960 and 1970s, these Trizo 50 releases are a testament both to how small town boys can absorb and reflect music from far beyond their world, and the hard reality behind the promise of rock and roll in America.
For those of you with long memories, these editions are TOTALLY DIFFERENT from earlier releases on the World In Sound label.
REVIEWS:
Glowing reviews in "Ugly Things" and "Shindig!" magazine attest to the collectibility and excellence of the recordings, which range from garage rock to Power Pop to hard rock to Psychedelia to Proto Punk to neo metal.
“A lot of love and labor went into this release, and it shows… heartfelt, meticulously detailed liner notes enhance the experience… but it’s the music that makes this release special. Don’t miss out.” – Mike Stax, Ugly Things magazine
“… the great lost American band.” – Stu Shea, co-author of “Fab Four FAQ”
“… full-on Nuggets ‘60s garage with gorgeous background vocals. “Graveyard” is a kind of wistful soft psych epic that transcends their earlier Phantasia style… a beautifully orchestrated thing.” – Terry Ellison, Blastitude
4-Stars – Peter Gallagher, Shindig magazine
"For the uniformed, Trizo 50 is a chemical injected into pigs when they get X-rays. A teenaged Bob DePugh, who grew up in the family business making veterinary pharmaceuticals, picked this band name when glancing at a vial of the stuff on the lab shelf. The band never really got off the ground outside of the small farming community of Norborne, Missouri about an hour east of Kansas City, but what a story DePugh weaves... DePugh writes, “It took three bands to make this record. First off, there was the J Walkers. That was 1965. In 1969, it was Phantasia, and in 1973 it was Trizo 50.” —noearplugs.com
