FRANCIS HAROLD AND THE HOLOGRAMS- Who Said These Were Happy Times - WAREHOUSE FIND RED VINYL Label:GOING UNDERGROUND ONE COPY ONLY MINT CONDITION Those with an ear for the extreme will find plenty to love on Who Said These Were Happy Times: whether it's the exhumed garage rock of the ominously named 'Black Boots, Red Shirt, Little Boys' or the stuttering intro to 'I See It All'. But most of all what they'll love is the sheer hellish intensity conjured up by Francis Harold and his anonymous Holograms, the fact that once Who Said These Were Happy Times gets started, it's nigh on impossible to stop. The day Francis Harold & The Holograms stop making records like this highly impressive debut is the day they decide to play a second riff. Based on the evidence displayed here, they shouldn't be in any rush to come to that decision. LP $10 SKU:17054

HOLY SISTERS OF THE GAGA DADA- Gaga At the Go Go RARE 1988 BOMP RELEASE - WAREHOUSE FIND Label:BOMP ONE COPY ONLY SEALED . A little detour for BOMP, into the world of alternate rock! The Holy Sisters of the Gaga Dada were an eclectic band originally from Santa Cruz, California, USA[1] formed in 1981. They were voted "Best Alternative Rock Band of the Year" by L.A. Weekly.[2] The collaboration of keyboardist Mary Jean Shaffer and guitarist Blancah Black, the Holy Sisters reveled in eccentric, quasi-religious imagery and feminist politics. Other original members included Heidi Puckett (bass) and Jeff Grubic (tenor sax). As the band morphed from conceptual entity to frequent club performers, Black left and two new members were added, Jill Fido (bass) and Charles Bingham (drums). Kim Sockit later replaced Puckett, and Zero Jessephski, Jr. replaced Bingham, making the Holy Sisters of the Gaga Dada an all-female band. The group would later move to Hollywood, California[3] where they were featured in "Once Upon Her Time," a TV program about women in the '80s which aired on the Lifetime Cablevision Network. NUMBERS - Anthology '64-'67 VERY RARE VOXX RELEASE -MINT CONDITION but one slight creased corner. 1983 release with prank liner notes by Greg Shaw implying that they were a real 60’s band, a lot of reviewers fell for it. Hilarious! (This review below is one of many where the reviewer believed the joke.) “ Bomp/Voxx head honcho Greg Shaw set for the mid-60s and
produced these superb beat-styled harmony-pop sides for the
Tutor brothers. Surprisingly, he didn't see fit to release them
until nearly twenty years later. Imagine that! Okay, so who
are the Tutor brothers? Perhaps the greatest compliment I can
give them is that they remind me of The Robbs read these on

The latter demonstrates his skill with long-form improvisation, as well as his playful sense of humor. TRACK LIST:

HOLLIES- Lost Recordings and Beat Rarities 10x7" Box Set SALE - Label:SUNDAZED This highly resonant set acts as a guidebook to many of the missing links behind the one British beat group who, more than any other, stayed neck-and-neck with the Beatles throughout the ‘60s. In terms of quality single releases with irresistible chart appeal (15 Top Ten 45s in the UK) and pure musical evolution, there is no doubt the Hollies breathed the same rarified air as the Fab Four . The Hollies Lost Recordings and Beat Rarities collects 20 long-buried tracks and hard-to-find gems, ranging from rare U.S. and British singles to EP rarities and unissued songs, all perfectly ripe for release as an original Hollies 45, whether that happened or not. Follow the group from their first single (released in May of 1963), the savage “Ain’t That Just Like Me” b/w “Hey What’s Wrong With Me,” through their discotheque dance floor raves: “Come On Back,” “What Kind of Love” and “She Said Yeah.” Swoon to their swingin’ ballad “Yes I Will,” groove with their jazzy “Honey and Wine” and float to outer space with “All The World is Love.” Discover an impossible-to-find, spy-style double-sider the Hollies did for a 1967 Italian movie, and groove to unreleased tracks cut while on tour in New York City in 1965, then marvel at an extremely scarce cover of the Beatles’ “If I Needed Someone,” tracked at Abbey Road, revered recording home to both groups. Sundazed has collected a pirate’s ransom of tracks here, nearly all unavailable on any original English or American Hollies album. Delivered now via the supremely cool format of 45 r.p.m. vinyl, each single is loaded with guaranteed Disk Jockey dance-floor magic that only further cements the Hollies’ reputation as the coolest Manchester band, ever!!! 45 RPM $45 SKU:12996

CURIOSITY SHOP- VOL 1 ( obscure pop nuggets recorded in the British psychedelic period, 1968 - 1971. -Label:PARTICLES (UK) Particles presents Curiosity Shop Volume One, a colorful variety of obscure pop nuggets recorded in the British psychedelic period, from 1968 through 1971. The psychedelic effects have gone and the lightshows have blown, but their lingering presence in the aftermath of the hallucogenic haze is, though perhaps less defined, strangely evident. The end of the explosive decade that brought us the fab four and gave us the pop star was proving to be a turning point in both musical and political terms. Curiosity Shop provides an insight into the changing times with an illustrious soundtrack to furnish the senses. Good vibrations indeed! DAWN OF PSYCHEDELIA - VA DBL CD - Label:CHERRY RED "'Piper At the Gates of Dawn,' 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,' 'Electric Music for the Mind and Body,' 'The United States of America,' 'Forever Changes,' 'A Child's Guide to Good and Evil,' 'We're Only In It For The Money': just some of the conceptual masterpieces of the psychedelic era. But these monuments didn't suddenly materialise. What of the earlier musical influences that inspired them, what of the art that cleared a path for psychedelia? The Dawn of Psychedelia charts the course of the artistic momentum that had been gathering internationally for decades. Edgard Varèse, the "Father of Electronic Music", the "Matinee Idol of Modernism" and musical guru of Frank Zappa; Aldous Huxley's 'holiday from reality', yearning (as Timothy Leary would) to attain the cosmic conciousness of unity, light and love; the Alice B Toklas Cook Book Recipe for Hashish Fudge; the mysteries of Indian classical music and its introduction in the west (Ravi Shankar, Vilayat Khan, Ali Akbar Khan and his brilliant disciple, Sharan Rani); Sun Ra and the jazz hybrids created by Ken Nordine, Yusef Lateef, Herbie Mann and Gabor Szabo as each sought to break the boundaries of convention; the bewitching, other-worldly music of Sanctus from the Missa Luba, a version of the Latin Mass based on traditional Congolese songs, which establishes the magical atmosphere of Lindsay Anderson's "If...", a film that is a microcosm of the revolutionary 1960s and one of the most important films in cinema history. The culmination of these pure, unadulterated divergent strands created the environment in which psychedelia would so memorably flower. COMP CD $12 SKU:16374

DON'T THINK I’VE FORGOTTEN - VA : Cambodia's Lost Rock and Roll 70s -Label:DUST-TO-DIGITAL On April 17, 1975, Phnom Penh fell to the Khmer Rouge and Cambodian rock and roll was no more. Its star musicians were targeted and killed, record collections were destroyed, clubs were closed, and Western-style music-making, dancing, and clothes were outlawed. The deaths of approximately two million Cambodians and the horrors of the Killing Fields have been well-documented; add to this John Pirozzi's fascinating tale of Cambodia's vibrant pop music scene, beginning in the 1950s and '60s, influenced by France's Johnny Hallyday and Britain's Cliff Richard and the Shadows. The filmmaker has assembled rare archival footage, punctuating it with telling interviews with the few surviving musicians. Cambodian culture has long been synonymous with a love for the arts. Pirozzi's 2014 film Don't Think I've Forgotten pays homage to the country's rock legends who paid for their creativity with their lives. Through the eyes, words, and songs of its popular music stars of the '50s, '60s, and '70s, Don't Think I've Forgotten: Cambodia's Lost Rock and Roll examines and unravels Cambodia's recent tragic past. This soundtrack to Pirozzi's important film, compiled by the director, is very cinematic in nature. The sequencing and newly-remastered audio transport the listener through the rock and roll history of Cambodia in a similar fashion as Pirozzi's documentary film. It is both entertaining and essential to hear so many tracks that are available outside of Cambodia for the very first time. Includes tracks by The Royal University of Fine Arts, Sinn Sisamouth, Chhoun Malay, Huoy Meas, Baksey Cham Krong, Ros Serey Sothea, Pen Ran, Sieng Vannthy, Va Sovy, Drakkar, Pou Vannary, Yol Aularong, and Cheam Chansovannary. THOSE SHOCKING SHAKING DAYS - Indonesian Psych, Prog Rock &Funk: 1970-1978 - Label:Now Again First ever compilation to assess the incredible psychedelic rock, funk & prog scene of 1970s Jakarta! Whilst some collectors fiend for the incredibly rare LPs from the likes of Sharkmove & their later incarnation Giant Step, very little is known about Indonesian rock music - until now. Now-Again Records has teamed up with local musicians and experts to provide a fascinating in-depth look at the flourishing of progressive psychedelic music in early 1970s Indonesia, where fiercely independent musicians criticised the military dictatorship, raised awareness of drug abuse and much more - all to the glorious sound of the fuzz guitar and some of the most ambitious arrangements you'll ever hear. UNRELATED SEGMENTS - The Story Of My Life – Complete Recordings DBL LP insert with photos and liner notes. -Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS (SPAIN) Sixties punk, garage, moody sounds and proto-hard-rock of the highest order! Complete recordings (1966-1975) of this legendary band from Michigan, including their three killer 45s plus unreleased recordings and alternate takes. Master tape sound, insert with photos and liner notes. The Unrelated Segments created some of the most celebrated garage-punk anthems of all time. Tracks like “Cry, Cry, Cry” with its teenage-angst vocals and out of control fuzztone guitar break, “The Story Of My Life” with that bizarre and ultra-punk bass line or the moody-punker “It’s gonna rain” have been included on countless garage comps (Back From The Grave, Acid Dreams, Nuggets, etc) and have been covered by numerous bands who worship them as 60s punk Gods. Sadly, the band never got the chance to record a full album. After three outstanding 45s, they recorded a projected fourth single that never saw the light of day, just when the band had changed its name to U.S and had started playing in a heavier vein, similar to early MC5. Soon after, the band split up and some of their members formed psych-rock band Lost Nation. On this collection, along with their official 45s and alternate takes / rehearsals, you’ll find the unreleased 45 from 1969 plus some demos recorded by an unnamed post-Unrelated Segments / Lost Nation band in 1972. An amazing find which shows the band playing pure Detroit high-energy hard rock! “The Unrelated Segments emerged from the same downriver suburbs that had produced the MC5, and their suburban mutation was almost as unique. Singer Ron Stults had an unforgettable style somewhere between punk snarl and Brit erudition and the songs he wrote with lead guitarist Rory Mack were catchy and substantial” – Ben Edmonds (Creeem, Rolling Stone, Mojo LP $32 SKU:16282

UNSETTLED SOCIETY - 17 Diamond Studded Cadillacs ( Complete recordings (1969-1974) of legendary US Acid-Punk band, ) - -Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS (SPAIN) Complete recordings (1969-1974) of legendary US Acid-Punk band, famous for appearing on the seminal psych compilation “Endless Journey” back in the 80s. But Unsettled Society were a total mystery until now. The band came from the New York suburbs and were famous locally for their powerful stage shows, full of strobe and psychedelic flashing lights. In 1969 they released their first 45 for the Charm Label: “17 Diamond Studded Cadillacs”, which is pure acid-psych, lo-fi basement insanity. It was coupled with “Passion Seeds”, a killer moody, atmospheric psych ballad. Between 1972 and 1974 they released two more 45s in a fantastic heavy psychvein, the last one recorded under the Thunder Head name. All of them are included here with sound taken from the original tapes. Fold-out insert with lot of amazing unseen photos and detailed liner notes by Charm Records boss Pete Huntley." “Every known recording by Unsettled Society -- the Iron Butterfly of Upstate New York. Amazing photos and the full story behind “17 Diamond Studded Cadillacs” -- one of the most blazing raunch/psych anthems of all time.” I HAVE TO LIVE MY LIFE IN THE WORLD OF THE UNDERGROUND”. Classic.” —Byron Coley LP $22 SKU:16283

WEST COAST NATURAL GAS- Two's A Pair A pinnacle of the West Coast psychedelic acid scene.- Label:RD RECORDS "An album full of vintage 1966-1968 music by the band that brought you the incredible 'Hashish' on the legendary San Francisco Sampler Fifth Pipe Dream. First ever release of this killer Westcoast psychedelic monster that took many years to complete!!! West Coast Natural Gas started in 1965 in Seattle. In early 1967 they went to San Francisco to work for a local music manager named Matthew Katz. Katz was the original manager for Jefferson Airplane, Moby Grape and later also It's a Beautiful Day. He talked West Coast Natural Gas into signing a contract with him but being young and stupid, they didn't realize at the time that they had basically signed everything over to him. They went into the studio and recorded some original tunes: 'A Favor,' 'Go Run and Play,' 'The Jumping Frog,' 'Hashish,' 'Water or Wine,' 'Beyond This Place,' and 'Two's A Pair.' In early 1968 the band broke up and went back to Seattle. Katz released a single -- Go Run and Play / A Favor on his S.F. Sound label under the name West Coast Natural Gas. Later he released a compilation album -- the first San Francisco Sound sampler -- called Fifth Pipe Dream. The four songs mentioned before, 'Water or Wine,' 'Hashish,' 'Beyond This Place' and 'Twos A Pair' were the ones recorded by WCNG and relabeled by Katz as Indian Puddin and Pipe. This superb release includes all the above mentioned songs, plus others from acetates. As a big surprise we found another four never before heard songs. All recorded 1966 in a local Seattle Recording Studio before they even went to San Francisco, all of which are included in this great release. Apinnacle of the West Coast psychedelic acid scene." WHITE BOY AND THE AVERAGE RAT BAND- ST(post punk)SAALE - Label:ROACH From Acid Archives: (Baltimore, MD) This is stretching the limits of the Archives here -- it's an 80s album and sounds much closer to the kind of post-punk hard rock that got college airplay in the late 80s than it does like anything else reviewed on this website. That said, it's speedy not-quite-metal hard rock with a pulverizing distortion sound (to call it "fuzz guitar" is to understate it by a mile). One song is acoustic, but mostly this is just an in-your-face blitzkrieg, and it's really great." LP $14 SKU:13267
