BLACK WATCH -Crying All The Time (glorious acid pop psych, Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE b/w “One Hundred Million Times Around The Sun” and “Much Of A Muchness”
“Crying All The Time!” transports TBW into the realm of glorious pop psych, launching listeners into its stream of soaring, sonic splendor (and mellotronic majesty, courtesy of ex-BJM keyboardist Rob Campanella). Undoubtedly the first and only song to offer up such sumptuous words as delirious, imperious, mysterious, insidious and perfidious in a single set of lyrics.Originally from Santa Barbara, California and based in Los Angeles, The Black Watch evoke the same fervor from those in the know as do bands such as The Chameleons, The Church and The Stone Roses. 45 RPM $10 SKU:21638

ELECTRIC LOOKING GLASS - Death of a Season ( Bee Gees, Left Banke and Kinks circa '68 influenced) Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE Electric Looking Glass are a baroque pop group from Los Angeles whose shared love of early Bee Gees, Left Banke and Kinks circa '68 informs their phenomenal songs. Fresh on the scene, the four far-out dandies create flash melodies in full harmony with jangly guitars, whirling Hammond and a belting backbeat. Sounds of yesterday, visions of tomorrow, yet fully focused on the perfect here and now.
Death Of A Season With a slow, groovy build riding deep, powerful currents of Hammond organ and buoyed by ethereal vocals, “Death Of A Season” envelops you in its sensuous sea of psychedelia before taking you to the top of a tidal wave of intense, climactic glorySomeday Soon” Filled with heavenly harmonies, harpsichord, and jangly guitars, “Someday Soon” takes you to a place that exists only within the grooves of the song itself. It’s an ode to an unattainable idea, a four-minute fantasy about that “magic other-place” we sometimes find when we cross the Hypnotic Bridge. 45 RPM $10 SKU:21637

ASTRAL SON - Mind’s Eye (Cosmic Dutch neo-psych ) Label:SULATRON The third album by Dutch neo-psych solo-artist Astral Son once again is full of cosmic soundscapes, progressing into psychedelic tracks with plenty of far-out elements. 'Minds Eye' basically sounds like a logical continuation of Astral Son's previous album 'Silver Moon' and is arguably (even) better! If you enjoyed this space cadet's first two excursions, you'll definitely love 'Mind's Eye CD $14 SKU:21564

BATORS, STIV-Disconnected (80s garage pop- Collectors edition w bonus tracks and alt cover)-Label:BOMP In December of 1980, Bomp released this groundbreaking album by Stiv Bators, recently (though never permanently) departed from The Dead Boys. BEACHWOOD SPARKS - Tarnished Gold -Label:SUB POP The world has caught up to Beachwood Sparks since they came out of nowhere in 2000 with their self-titled debut album, bringing new life to what the rootsy, laidback American rock that has since been wholeheartedly embraced by the indie music scene. BLOODY HOLLIES - Yours Until the Bitter End digipack - Label:ALIVE The trio’s hybrid of punk rock and hard blues really, really works. High-energy rock with good songs is pretty rare these days. With stratospheric vocals, take-no-prisoners guitar work and a rhythm section that won’t quit, this crunchingly-produced CD is one of the best hard rock albums I’ve heard in a while. Also they have an awesome name. Bloody Hollies – get it?" – Blogcritics

"Yours Until the Bitter End" is a work that reflects a lengthy career that fully embraces The Bloody Hollies' vast influences while at the same time maintaining the band's unique sound of explosive, over-driven mayhem balanced with intelligently thought-out songwriting. What is most impressive about The Bloody Hollies, however, is the diversity of their strengths, ranging from 70's classic rock, Americana blues, to an even power-pop songwriting style.

Many who are familiar with the band’s sound know them by their trademark murder-themed blues/rock anthems that remind listeners of the 60’s and 70’s golden age of rock & roll. The new album still embraces the dark side of raw garage punk, but comes armed with a more eclectic array of songwriting and musicianship. But don’t let the touches of organ, violin, and xylophone fool you, the band’s hybrid of blues and rock & roll continue to shine more impressively than ever. The Bloody Hollies recorded in San Diego, but enlisted the expertise of Jim Diamond in Detroit, a familiar friend of the band’s that helped bring the sound of this record to its full potential.

The Bloody Hollies was one of the last bands to be invited to play on John Peel's "Peel Sessions". Although John Peel passed away a week before the session was scheduled, The Bloody Hollies went on to record three songs and their "Peel Session" was played on BBC Radio 1 at the end of November 2004 by interim DJ Rob Da Bank. BLUES PILLS - one only LADY IN GOLD -digipak LIVE BONUS DVD -60s psych style w Original Radio Moscow member) Label:NUCLEAR BLAST Musically BLUES PILLS contains all the elements to create extraordinary music that sounds original but respects the long-held rules of the blues and rock'n'roll traditions. The psychedelic sounds of the band may hail back to the prosperity of the '60s and '70s and it's true that their distinctive sound includes a few ingredients of the past; a pinch of late '60s Americana, a sprinkling of blues, a heavy serving of rock'n'roll and a big squeeze of soul, but it's all shaken up into a brand-new cocktail of sound. CD $20 SKU:21462

CHILLIWACK - All Over You(Canadian 70s pop) LAST COPIES Label:PACEMAKER Chilliwack rose from the ashes of The Collectors: while spending time in California, the Collectors had been signed to a record deal. After a pair of albums and a string of radio singles between 1967 and 1969, and tours with the likes of The Doors and Jefferson Airplane, The Collectors were dead… and up sprung Chilliwack. The band released an eponymous double album set a year later (1971), featuring the classics ‘Lonesome Mary,’ ‘Music For A Quiet Time,’ and the seventeen-minute long ‘Night-Morning.’ To sort out any confusion, fans refer to the first Chilliwack album as "The Mask Album" and this as "The Double Album" as it was originally... guess what? a double album. From the back of the album: "A few words about the music... Our objective in the studio was to get as much life into the music as we could. Side One contains songs we hope are suitable for AM play. "Changing Reels," on Side Two, is a long sectional composition. The lead vocals in the last section are improvisations, and the song was written around then afterwards. "Music For a Quiet Time" was performed by Bill and Claire sitting in an echo chamber for a couple of hours. "Night-Morning" is the result of a studio full of instruments and microphones set up to record any free-form music we might want to play. Ross sat at the organ and started to play sounds with hands, head and elbows. Bill and Claire joined in with piano, flute and vocals, and the piece grew from there. We hope you find something here for you. CD $10 SKU:19932

HONEYRIDER- SUNSHINE SKYWAY (infectious pop gems) -Label:DIONYSUS Florida's Honeyrider are one of the more widely buzzed about bands in the indie underground. Their first two releases on legendary UK label Damaged Goods Records—All Systems Go! (1998) and Splashdown (2000)—are infectious pop gems that won the group praise in publications such as the NME and Rolling Stone. The group has just completed their third album, Sunshine Skyway, which is their best effort yet. Like its predecessors, the new record is full of buzzin' Jesus and Mary Chain/Primitives guitar sounds, Beach Boys-styled melodies, and soulful psychedelic pop, but the songwriting here is even more potent, the lyrics displaying a personal side that vocalist/guitarist Gary Strickland has only hinted at previously. CD $5 SKU:19816

HORDE - Press Button Firmly (mid sixties rare garage ) w 4 bonus tracks -Label:BREAK-A-WAY Rarest 60s garage album by North Carolina students from early 1967. Painstakingly remastered at KSL. Undoubtedly the most exciting mid sixties garage album to be recently discovered in the genre, is that by The Horde from North Carolina. The existence of this self produced album came to collectors ears and eyes only about a year ago. It was recorded more or less accidently in early 1967, released in a micro quantity of only 25 copies and among the local US garage albums of the decade it is one of the few eclectic examples with all the ingredients that makes it outstanding compared with the usual prep-school albums of the time. It contains a blend of exciting originals and well chosen, inspired covers, played in a raw, crude and frantic style. If ever it were true that the over-used assertion that a band's cover versions measured up to the originals, then it is true of The Horde. Why? These five 19-20 year old students from all over the United States did not only blaze a trail for 60s rock in then conservative North Carolina, they also had a general attitude that finds its origins in the young peoples mindset of the mid-sixties that put them outside of the local mainstream and gained them a sort of regional underground popularity. CD has 4 bonus tracks. CD $12 SKU:15346

MC5- POWERTRIP - WAREHOUSE FIND -Label:TOTAL ENERGY Found a few of these kicking around the warehouse from long ago and far away! "POWER TRIP was the first MC5 release on Alive/Total Energy and it is just superb: Not only are the performances excellent and sound great but also most of these tracks are unique to this disc only. The three instrumental outtakes from late October/early November ‘70—“The Pledge Song”, “Head Sounds (Part Two)” and an early version of “Skunk (Sonicly Speaking)” named “Power Trip”—are all killer 5 moments as is the extended raw, noised-out improv “I’m Mad Like Eldridge Cleaver” and the previously-mentioned tracks from “Dialogue ‘68” which are trudgeworthy, pre-Kick Out the Jams live assaults played at the same ear-splitting volume but at a fraction of the pace. Highly recommended. (Note: although not credited as such, the version of “Black to Comm” on here is from Saginaw.)" Arthur Magazine CD $10 SKU:16757

OH SEES- SMOTE REVERSER (head-destroying psych-epics)Label: CASTLE FACE Oh Sees have spawned another frothy album of head-destroying psych-epics to grok and rock out to. Notice the fresh dollop of organ and keyboard prowess courtesy of Memory Of A Cut Off Head-alum and noted key-stabber Tom Dolas, while the Paul Quattrone/Dan Rincon drum-corps polyrhythmic pulse continues to astound and pound in equal measure, buttressed by the nimble fingered bottom end of Sir Tim Hellman the Brave and the shred-heaven fret frying of John Dwyer, whilst Lady Brigid Dawson again graces the wax with her harmonic gifts. Aside from the familiar psych-scorch familiar to soggy pit denizens the world over, there's a fresh heavy-prog vibe that fits like a worn-in jean jacket comfortably among hairpin metal turns and the familiar but no less horns-worthy guitar fireworks Dwyer's made his calling card CD $14 SKU:20263

RADIO MOSCOW- The Great Escape Of Leslie Magnafuzz digipack - Label:ALIVE “Radio Moscow does for Blue Cheer what The Black Keys do for 21st century blues.”12 - The Austin Chronicle
Radio Moscow’s popularity is growing rapidly as more and more fans tune into their unique brand of American psychedelic blues rock. Their music is rooted in the power-trio sounds from the golden age of rock’n’roll in the late sixties and early seventies.

"The Great Escape Of Leslie Magnafuzz" is the Californian based band’s third album for Alive Natural Sound Records. It’s also a genuinely thrilling follow up to their previous releases, brimming with toe curling Hendrixified guitar soloing and the mariju*na and acid laced caterwauling of Blue Cheer, not to mention some seriously impressive blues guitar work that would make Seasick Stevie green with envy!

The wild card and golden boy of the group Parker Griggs grew up in Story City, Iowa. As a young basement dwelling cave teen obsessed with mid-60s garage-punk he home recorded a slew of songs in that vein which saw fruition as Radio Moscow (the moniker having been lifted from Nikiita The “K”’s ‘Go Go Radio Moscow’ from the garage comp Ya Gotta Have Moxie Vol. 2). However, although never tiring of garage-punk, Parker Grigg’s was excelling at the guitar (and drums - which he plays on all of the albums), progressing musically towards the proto-metal blues of Cream, Hendrix, Sabbath and Blue Cheer. This was apparent on the debut on which Parker played everything bar bass. A demo handed to Dan Auberbach after a Black Keys gig impressed the musician so much he landed Radio Moscow a deal with Alive and produced their startling power-trio infused debut. A further album followed the 2007 debut in 2009. "Brain Cycles" adhered to the old adage of if it ain’t broke don’t mend it and saw the teenage guitar assassins smelt gold from their vintage heavy, psychedelic blues licks.

"The Great Escape Of Leslie Magnafuzz" was recorded, mixed and mastered in analog at the legendary Prairie Sun recording studios in Northern California (artists such as Tom Waits, Commander Cody and Leslie West, among many others have recorded there). In order to achieve the true natural sound they were looking for, the band used vintage Supro, Gibson and Alamo amps, as well as other off-beat gems, while Parker would, at times, run his vocals through a tape echo, a Leslie cabinet or an old Gibson reverb tank. "The Great Escape Of Leslie Magnafuzz" is an amazing album that updates an old-school style with craft, passion and plenty of psychedelics!

The album art is a throwback to the psychedelic covers of the late sixties/early seventies, and instead of being minimalist, as is the norm these days, the album is a super-sized, gatefold edition that's a trip in itself! The first pressing is a MAILORDER EXCLUSIVE, on Blue Vinyl, ltd. to 500 copies! CD $12 SKU:13366

SULFUR CITY- Talking Loud (gritty blues Grace Slick, Patti Smith style! -Label:ALIVE The band’s raging but luminescent dynamic, vividly captured by producer Dale Morningstar, gains extra depth through Keith Breit’s keyboards. In the words of an old jazz correspondent, this band “slices so much ass the room is waist-deep in ass”. We say a new star has come among us. – Kris Needs / CLASSIC ROCK CD $5 SKU:17614

TRAFFIC SOUND - Virgin (1969 Peruvian hard rock/ psych ) Label:MUNSTER The second LP by Traffic Sound, released in 1969, is one of the masterpieces of Latin rock. On their first album with self-written songs, the band from Lima combined psychedelia, hard rock, a hint of progressive rock and a Latin tinge to create a personal, mighty sound full of details. The best example is Meshkalina, a track with references to Incan culture which became an anthem of the period and was heard all over Peru. The LP was a great success and even saw a US release. CD $10 SKU:20131

TROYES - Rainbo Chaser-Complete REcordings (67 psych)- Label:CICADELIC RECORDS The Troyes exploded onto the music scene with 'Rainbow Chaser' a regional smash hit that climbed to number 3 on the top 40 in September of 1966. Sensing a new phenomenon, famed bandleader Ray Anthony (who already had smash hits with 'Dragnet' and 'Peter Gunn') signed the group to his new rock label Space Records. His faith in the band was so big that nearly two albums worth of material were recorded at United Sound (Detroit) in 1966 and 1967. Unfortunately, only two singles were issued and the rest of the material was never released. Now for the first time ever, all twenty-four of The Troyes' recordings are compiled on one album. The recordings range from far-out psychedelic to unhinged fuzz and farfisa garage to moody haunting sounds. Included with this album is a detailed booklet of rare photos, radio surveys, newspaper articles, and Troyes memorabilia CD $10 SKU:19761

EMBER POP 69-74- VA Rainy Day Mind ( 60s ) -Label:FANTASTIC VOYAGE Rainy Day Mind” is the first of two volumes surveying Ember’s pop repertoire from 1969 until the label’s demise at the end of the seventies. It comprises 21 tracks by artists ranging from obscure American singer Polly Niles to the internationally famous P J Proby, as well as ill-fated actor Alan Lake, Irish vocalist Lee Lynch, French pop star Black Swan and fuzz guitar-toting soul band Milt Matthews Inc. A clutch of projects including The Good Vibrations, The Good Ship Lollipop and Rusty Harness came to Ember courtesy of producer Mike Berry. The founding of US outlet Paramount-Ember in 1974, headed by music business veteran John Madara, brought albums by Denny Doherty (formerly of The Mamas And The Papas) and British all-girl glam rockers Mother Trucker into the fold. What these disparate sources all offer are fine performances of strong songs. Nor is there any shortage of collectables, topped by Davey Payne & The Medium Wave’s ‘A Walk In The Sunshine,’ which commands £50, and Blue Beard’s eponymous album, which only reached test pressing stage (£200), from which we have salvaged ‘Baby I Need You.’ Nice shrink-wrapped slip-case packaging COMP CD $10 SKU:16376

REVOLUTION -Teen Time In Corpus Christi (1966 Texas garage) -Label:CICADELIC In 1966, famed lead guitarist Rod Prince (later of Bubble Puppy) re-wrote the 13th Floor Elevators' song 'Tried To Hide' as 'All Night Long' and released it with the Bad Seeds as their third single. They were the number one band at the time in Corpus Christi. Although 'All Night Long' would beat the Elevators' 'Tried To Hide' (on International Artists) to the market, the Bad Seeds disbanded in the summer of 1966 and other renowned Corpus bands would follow in their footsteps, most scoring top ten hits on the way: Four more with the ultra-rare single 'Problem Child' b/w 'Don't Give Up Hope'. The Zakary Thaks with 'Bad Girl' and 'Face To Face'. The Liberty Bell with 'The Nazz Are Blue' and 'For What You Lack'. The Buckle with 'Baroque Rock' on 'I've Got Something On My Mind'. Folk-rock singer Michael backed by The Zakary Thaks on all three of his singles, sounding more like a 1966 era Bob Lind than Bob Lind. And Kubla Khan singing about changin' times in 'Revolution' and pondering whether 'the brown grass will be legalized'. Memorabilia such as top 30 radio surveys, rare photos, news articles from the era, interviews with band members, sixteen page booklet, and twenty-eight tracks (including previously unreleased recordings) combine to make this a trip back to the '60s, when a revolution in sound was happening in Corpus Christi, Texas." DEUTER - D (German cosmic psych 1970) Label:MISSING VINYL We say: ““A wonderfully entertaining exploration of drones, swells, rhythms, and melodies. Deuter was clearly a student of Indian ragas, but he took that influence and mixed it with drug-tinged psychedelia and synthesizers to create a vibrant new hybrid. If you're into kraut-rock, world music, ambient, and/or psychedelia, you need to get this album. Also highly recommended to fans of Acid Mothers Temple and the new psychedelia...” Deuter was a product of both East and West. Eckart Rahn, a young record producer at that time, recognized Deuter's talents, and in 1971 released his first recording, “D,” on the then fledgling Kuckuck label (not, we hasten to mention, in any way a “new age” album). Deuter began to go into the mountains to record birds, water and wind to accompany his music; he also began spending much of his time at an ashram in Poona, India. Deuter was also one of the first artists to blend that Eastern influence into his music. Yet he did that blending in such a gentle fashion that it never jarred Western ears, unaccustomed to Eastern rhythms and tonalities. The terrific “D” album is an all solo affair recorded via multi-tracked guitars, electronics, percussion, flutes, and so on, in what looks to be Deuter’s bed-room; very psychedelic processing, at times an almost ADII-like heaviness mixing with more Popol Vuh-ish mystical spaciousness. Perfectly crafted headspace and always a pleasure to absorb, this is one of the finest and most unheralded albums of the early 1970s German scene. An all-time favorite.” label says: “Deuter was one of the earliest multi-instrumental soloists in Germany. He is considered to be one of the pioneers of New Age music and is still active, having released more than 40 albums. D, his first album, was released on the legendary Kuckuck label in 1971 and is considered to be a classic. With guitars, sitar, organ, harmonium, Asian and Oriental percussives, etc., it is a mixture of psychedelic underground rock, cosmic music and ethnic fusion, at places similar to Amon Düül 2, Between and Popol Vuh. Limited edition, deluxe 180g vinyl, exact reproduction of the original first pressing LP $26 SKU:21068

“ Retro rock is undergoing something of a revival of late with bands such as Rival Sons chasing the coat tails of giants like Led Zeppelin and The Dirty Streets do share some common ground with that band but also infuse it with elements of Humble Pie, Free, The Black Crowes and The Rolling Stones as well as classic 60’s soul and R&B. “ LP $20 SKU:15332

METAPHYSICAL ANIMATION-ST SAALE! (ultra obscure Floridan psych/prog 1973
) DBL Label:BLACK WIDOW Reissue of an ultra obscure Floridan psych/prog album from 1973. Less than 50 copies were pressed at the time, housed in a plain white demo sleeve with the band name hand-written in pen on the cover. Classic '70s prog, with significant elements of fusion and psychedelic rock. Sometimes it sounds like a take on 'Close To The Edge'. Other times it sounds like Rick Wakeman briefly joined Pink Floyd during the 'Wish You Were Here' sessions. And then there are the tracks that sound like a looser, more electrified Graham Bond Organization. LP $25 SKU:21510

PENTHOUSE 5-IT'S ALL MY OWN BIZARRE DREAM + 7"( rare mid sixties TEXAS garage psych) -Label:BREAK-A-WAY Hailing from the Dallas suburb Oak Cliff, The Penthouse 5 had its heyday in 1966-'67, when the band recorded a number of self-penned tunes and released two 45s. Several recordings from 1967 and other, more psychedelic influenced tracks remained unreleased, but demonstrate the musical versatility of the band. In 1966 the group underwent a substantial line-up change when three of the original band members, among them vocalist Rob Graham, left the group. He was replaced by Jon Williams, who had previously been with the By Fives and WordD. Alongside the Penthouse 5 recordings, the rare 7-inches of these closely linked bands are all collected for this release. Additionally an until now completely unknown 5-track '65 acetate rounds up this collection of rare and lost recordings by one of the greatest local '60s bands from the Lone Star State.
