LABEL NEWS & BUZZ

WOW, loving this song! Premiere of Beechwood’s Bigot in My Bedroom here at DESTROY//ESIST. Great sing-along clapper. “On the first song unveiled off the forthcoming album, Beechwood take a more dynamic, political stance, aiming at bigots and Nazis, through a cleaner sound, given through a pure rock 'n' roll filter, which on this new piece leans closer to glam rock than punk. Bigot In My Bedroom is a strongly produced song, bringing to mind the eminence and quality of acts such as the early seventies Stones, Bowie and T.Rex”.

A BOLHA- Um Passo a Frente ( 60s Brazilian Psych ) -Label:LION Brazilian band the Bubbles became the toast of the underground Rio de Janeiro scene, backing Tropicalist singer Gal Costas residence at the Sucata night club in 1970. They won the Best Band of the Festival award at the VII FIC of 1971 (International Festival of Songs), the same year they appeared on Lenos Vida y obra de Johnny McCartney album. After venturing to England to attend the Isle of Wight Festival, they decided to experiment with a heavier sound, more akin to UK bands of that era (Deep Purple, Cream, King Crimson, Humble Pie, with a little Beatles White Album in for good measure) than that of their Brazilian cohorts. A name change to A Bolha later, still loaded with verve and swagger, fueled by drugs, they recorded their first album, which has secured a permanent place as one of the best hard psych rock albums to ever emerge from South America. The LP, Um Passo a frente (A step forward), was released in 1973 by the Continental label, in a gatefold cover which was quite luxurious for the era. This masterpiece, now impossibly hard to find as an original, certainly made a name for A Bolha in the pantheon of 1970s Brazilian rock. But success in the early 1970s was not like it had once been in the old Jovem Guarda or Tropicalist days, when bands had weekly TV shows to help them become well-known nationwide‹and eventually, worldwide. In other words, the meager abilities of Continental to promote the album made it a collectors item, not the fate a band would actively seek for their recordings. Luckily, we at Lion Productions are able to present these recordings to the world all over again, with the additional benefit of a 20-page booklet with band history, photos, and comments on the songs by band leader Renato Ledeira. Includes both sides of the bands infamous hard-rocking 1971 single as bonus tracks. CD $10 SKU:10607

BEAUTIFUL LOSERS - Nobody Knows the Heaven (70s French pop Bolan style ) SALE -Label:LION To set the scene: it’s 1974, it’s Paris, two young guys in their bed-sit (one of whom is French music maven/famous producer Jay Alanski) are dreaming of counter-culture, and their internal versions of California and New York. The result is this album, a child begotten of Marc Bolan, Baudelaire, and Lautréamont; a fascinating record, subtle and engaging as it is scarce; the re-creation of a parallel pop universe which one Michael Moorcock wouldn’t have renounced. Somehow, the duo get their record out into the world on Monde Melody’s one-off “Silk” imprint (a tribute to Marc Bolan). And what twisted songs (in English) they managed to squeeze into a fifty-minute slab of vinyl. The music drips with deep nostalgia for the decadent “beautiful people” who lived and breathed and then found a home in the songs of Lou Reed and Leonard Cohen, pervaded throughout with a kind of psychedelic sadness. All of this is expressed by means of long jagged acid guitar runs (or in acoustic strums) supported by Moroccan percussion (bongos?) and heavy bass lines from Christophe J. A post-quaalude album, as band leader Jay Alanski has said. If the LP had been released in 1971, everyone would point to T-Rex as an influence, and call it “glam folk”; fast forward to today and it’s hard not to think “loner,” and draw comparisons with the music of Devendra Banhart, albeit recorded 35 years ago! We’re now several decades further on in the world’s slow self-destruction, but this sole recording by the Beautiful Losers has lost nothing of its freshness and superb arrogance. Blessed be the listener who is going to discover such a hidden treasure! CD $10 SKU:11172

DANGEROUS RHYTHM- ST (’78 Mexican punk) Label:BEAT GENERATION (Spain) This first vinyl reissue is pressed on 180-gram vinyl and features replica cover art and insert plus a new article written by Piro. Edition of 500.
Dangerous Rhythm formed in Mexico in August 1978 and can claim to be one of the first punk bands in the country. Piro, the band's vocalist, immersed himself in the whole Los Angeles scene, and was in contact with the Chicano side of the city through Tito Larriva from The Plugz and other bands from the area like Circle Jerks, Fear, and Black Flag. The impact of punk classics like the Sex Pistols, The Clash, or the Ramones obviously had an influence on the sound of the group. Dangerous Rhythm never forgot their family tree, absorbing large doses of unconventional rock like the New York Dolls, The Stooges, and Lou Reed. All these elements helped the band forge their own style and sound, starting with songs sung mostly in English and vibrant, direct melodies. After laying the foundations of the non-existent punk scene and recording their debut, Electroshock, they released their first eponymous LP in 1981. It was released by Hip 70, a label run by Armando Blanco, who owned the club of the same name, which was the focal point of the Mexican scene in the '80s. Key figures of '70s counterculture like Ricardo Ochoa (Peace and Love, Nahuatl) and veterans like Max Reese (sound engineer for Tom Petty) collaborated on the recording, which was then mastered by Wally Traugott, who worked on the live album The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl (1977). The end result was mind-blowing and shows a band with nerve that played new wave with a punk rhythm. LP $15 SKU:17205

DICTATORS - Next Big Thing 10”-Label:REAL GONE MUSIC "It's been 40 years since Andy 'Adny' Shernoff, Scott 'Top Ten' Kempner, Ross 'The Boss' Friedman a.k.a. FUNichello, Stu Boy King, and Handsome Dick Manitoba released the Dictators' debut Go Girl Crazy! album and created the loud, fast, and rude template that thousands of punk bands to come slavishly followed. And now the boys are ready to celebrate their anniversary with a little help from a very special friend. Long-time fan, professional party animal and metal/punk singer-songwriter-producer Andrew W.K. took the original album session tapes to three of the songs and, as he puts it ever so modestly, 'remixed, over-produced and totally ruined reimagined' them to create sonically stunning brand new versions of 'The Next Big Thing,' 'Two Tub Man,' and 'Weekend' for this Black Friday exclusive release! But that's only half the treasure that awaits Dictators fans on this 10" EP, which comes on beautiful opaque red vinyl; in the course of reviewing the tapes for this project, Sony Legacy A&R Producer Timothy J. Smith also located a reel of unreleased session outtakes including a completely previously unknown recording that never made it to the album, 'Backseat Boogie,' along with an alternate take of 'The Next Big Thing' and an instrumental take of 'Weekend.' Back cover and label artwork boasting previously unseen photo contact sheets complete the package. LIMITED EDITION OF 2500." LP $19 SKU:17105

EXCITEMENTS- BREAKING THE RULE- (high voltage rhythm and soul floorshakers)Label:PENNIMAN After more than two years on the road and 200 sweat-soaked performances since the release of their second LP "Sometimes Too Much Is Not Enough", this third LP certifies that the big combo from Barcelona can do whatever they please: either caress you or kick you in the stomach-or both. The steamroller rhythm section is one powerful structure pounding under searing guitars, roaring horns and all reigned over by the voice of Koko that claws at their hypnotic gyrations with wild abandon. This new Excitements bag, as expected, is THE satisfier with high voltage rhythm and soul floorshakers and lease breakers-"Everything is Better Since You're Gone","Fire", "Hold On Together"-ripping spear-hurling R & B - "Chicken Picking" "I'd Rather Feel The Pain", "Did I Let You Down", heartbreaking ballads and mid-tempos - "Breaking The Rule", and "Take It Back" and and a pair of rhythmical postcards- a tribute to what once were the noisy streets of New Orleans ("Mojo Train") and restless nights in a Havana boarding house ("Four Loves"). BACK IN STOCK AND DEALS!

COSMIC DEAD-PSYCH IS DEAD(STONER PSYCH)-Label:RIOT SEASON Formed in 2010, The Cosmic Dead are a quartet from Glasgow, Scotland who share their music through good vibes and better vibrations. Known for their improv, chaos strewn, Buckfast smashed against the wall take on space music, they have roamed from Roadburn to Las Vegas, Dundee to Bangalore with each album offering a meditative window into a certain time and space. 'Psych Is Dead' is the sixth full length album from the band, the glowing embers of a few days spent recording in a sweaty Sardinian kitchen overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. LP $22 SKU:18802

COSMIC MICHAEL - ST (Ultra-crude basement electric blues acid-fried folk rock.1969) - Label:OUT-SIDER Initially released in 1969, Cosmic Michael proposes a compatible marriage of electric blues and acid-fried folk rock. A carefree attitude, spiced with a sense of humor, is visible throughout the songs. Because the album is so loose, spontaneous and intimate, you feel as if you are right there in the studio, observing every single inch of the recording process.A raw-boned, hippy garage rock stance sits at the forefront on tracks such as “Now That You’ve Found It” and the brash fuzz guitar riffing of “Theme.” An ode to a gig, “People’s Fair” cleverly rhymes Buffy Sainte-Marie with Chuck Berry, while a gutsy female singer struts her stuff on “Mother Earth” and “Heavy Boogie” sounds like a goofy imitation of Canned Heat. LP $17 SKU:19525

COWBOYS & ALIENS-A TRIP TO THE STONEHENGE COLONY(STONER ROCK)CLEAR VINYL-Label:OFF THE RECORD LABEL Limited to 300 copies on clear vinyl. For the first time on vinyl comes this iconic debut album (originally from 2000) by Belgian stonerrock legends Cowboys & Aliens. Often stated as "groove rock" and a superb combination of the old classic bands, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy and some of the more modern pioneers such as QOTSA and Monster Magnet. LP $24 SKU:19374

CREEPXOTICA -Swingin Sounds From Beyond the Nether Regions-Label:DIONYSUS San Diego's Creepxotica combines the more exotic elements of surf music, the more surfy elements of exotica and the creepy elements of both, along with a bit of sea and jungle danger. Add in a shrunken head or two, a refreshing Mai Tai, and a Zombie (not the kind you drink...) as well as numerous scantily clad go-go wahinis and you have a pretty accurate description of the twelve songs on their debut full-length Dionysus album. A favorite of the Tiki Oasis crowd and beloved in their hometown of San Diego, Creepxotica sounds just like what their name implies. Oh, and Creepxotica is the alter-ego of a well-known San Diego aggro surf skater tiki garage band... LP $14 SKU:18804

CYKLE -ST (US garage/psych 69)Label:OUT SIDER Top notch US garage / psychedelic album from 1969: Vox organ, fuzzy guitars, snotty vocals and impressive songwriting / recording quality. Featuring all-time acid-punk classics such as “It’s Her” and “Walkout Of My Mind”. Cykle was formed in 1968, North Carolina, when gifted musician and songwriter Jimmy Sossamon (previously in famous local band The Young Ones) heard a local group, the Glory Cykle. He was so impressed that he approached them about becoming their manager. The band -- guitarists Ralph Stevens and Jeff Hardin, bassist Grady Pope, organist Rick Wilson, and drummer/vocalist Ken Allen -- practiced at the studio Sossamon had built in his parent's garage, and by the end of the year, Sossamon took up the drummer’s seat to free up Allen as lead vocalist. Band’s name was shortened to Cykle and in early 1969 they began recording an album consisting entirely of Sossamon originals. The resultant eponymous LP was released later that year as a private pressing of 500 copies on the band’s own Label Records. But despite the 1969 release date, “Cykle” sounds straight from the 1966-67 garage-punk-psychedelic book. *Insert with detailed liner notes *LP housed in an old- school- style tip- on sleeve. “When the most popular garage bands of the day were moving further and further away from the genre’s “less is more” production ideal, Cykle offered a raw, authentic take on what garage rock was meant to sound like.” - Psychedelized. LP $17 SKU:17886

CYMBELINE- “1965 – 1971 TWEAKED CORNER DISCOUNT! Label:GUERSSEN VERY SMALL DENTED CORNER, got this from a really picky distributor for a great price!
*Insert with photos and liner notes by band member Michael Journath
LP includes digital download cardPreviously unreleased DIY homemade psychedelia, teenbeat and fuzz-psych/prog by this amazing Swedish band, 1965-1971!!
Tracks like “Third Image” or “Look at the stars” are an incredible find for anyone into US garage-psych (they wouldn’t sound out of place on any Pebbles or Psychedelic Unknowns volume!) and others like “Flicka”, “Stolta Vingar” or “Mittuppslag” are top notch ‘70s fuzzed out Scandinavian psych/prog. We can’t believe that such fabulous stuff has remained hidden in a carboard box until now.
Formed in the industrial town of Norrköping in the mid ‘60s, Cymbeline (also known as Motala Ström and W&J) only released a 45 in 1971 before breaking up. But during their existence, the band recorded a lot of stuff, included here for the first time along with their rare 45.Cymbeline was basically two guys, Michael Journath and Anders Weyde, who met in 1965 while they both played in beat bands. They started recording songs at Anders little home studio with help with some friends and that’s how songs like “Imagination” and “Look at the stars”, amazing examples of homemade teen-beat, were born. At the same time, Michael and Anders were feeling a bit tired of playing cover versions with their beat bands so decided to start recording more experimental stuff, using armchairs and furniture as percussion, sounds from seagulls and birds, an electric cocktail mixer, improvising lyrics…these incredible experiments were recorded as “Images”, including the killer garage-psych sounding “Third Image”.

As the years passed by, the home studio improved and new songs were recorded in a more psych-prog vein, some of them included here. They also played a few live gigs with some help from other local musicians. In 1970, Ulf Ryberg joined the group and soon after a 45 was released containing his song “New York”. The flip side was “Sixth Image”, originally one of the “Images” but rearranged and re-recorded. In 1971, demos for an LP where recorded at Europafilm Studios in Stockholm. Two fantastic songs are included here and the sound is different from the earlier recordings – closer to the groups live performances. So, 40 years later, here’s the LP that Cymbeline always dreamed of.*Remastered sound LP $12 SKU:19310

DEAD BOYS - Younger, Louder & Snottier ( Rough mixes from 78 ) LAST ONES! Label:BOMP Records YOUNGER, LOUDER AND SNOTTIER is a collection of rough mixes of the 10 tracks from the Dead Boys' classic 1978 debut, YOUNG, LOUD AND SNOTTY, in the same order as the original release. ...Amazingly, these rough mixes are even louder and snottier than the LP.
"Sonic Reducer" in particular has a corrosive edge to it that makes this dead-on punk classic even more powerful than it had been before. While some of the other tracks are less notably altered, there's a freshness to these sloppier takes that makes YOUNGER, LOUDER AND SNOTTIER not only an impressive complement to the original, but possibly its superior.
Recorded at Electric Lady Studios in March 1977 Includes liner notes by Cheetah Chrome. Dead Boys: Stiv Bators (vocals); Jimmy Zero, Cheetah Chrome (guitar); Jeff Magnum (bass guitar); Johnny Blitz (drums).
Liner Note Authors: Charles M. Young; Stiv Bators; Cheetah Chrome.

DEAD BOYS - 3rd Generation Nation 180 gram pink (rare outtakes and liners by Cheetah Chrome-Label:BAD BOY THESE ARE PRE-MIX RARE OUTTAKES OF “WE HAVE COME FOR YOUR CHILDREN”. RAW AND UNADULTERATED, THESE ARETHE REAL THING FOR TRUE PUNK-ROCK FANS. CHEETAH CHROME’S LINER NOTES:in January of 1978, the Dead Boys, for some ungodly reason, were sent to Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida, to record a follow-up to “Young, Loud & Snotty”. While it was nice hanging out with Andy Gibb & Co, it could have been done cheaper and more happily in New York. Somehow, we felt as comfortable as 5 men sitting in one electric chair, as Disco and Southern Rock ruled the land, and we had spiked hair and dog collars! The result was probably the most disappointed 2nd album in history. Felix Pappalardi, the producer, didn’t understand us, and didn’t want to, as he got paid no matter what, and had plenty of drugs to play with. The songs and performances however, were fine, but you sure couldn’t tell it from the mix, though the cover was nice! Here is a re-EQ’d mix of the pre-EQ’d session, bringing some of the energy and spirit that was the band out front where it belongs. Give it a second chance, it’s been worth the wait! “Big City” still sucks though! LP $16 SKU:16567

[7/82]-Greg Shaw LP $15 SKU:2118

DETONATIONS-Static Vision ( Raw Power-era Stooges style!) LAST COPIES Label:DISASTER Color vinyl. A three piece rock-n-roll time bomb from New Orleans with a unique freaked-out sound. “Now THIS is what's been lost in the age of CD: rocking out and then getting out before one's welcome has been royally outstayed. Detonations have the same laudably single minded approach as Raw Power-era Stooges, paring everything down to pure driven riff.” - Shindig. “Sneered vocals, clunky rhythms and buzzsaw guitar riffs, all stripped of any non-essentials like harmony vocals and solos that consist of more than the song's main riff played louder.” – AMG LP $10 SKU:4481

DEVIL'S ANVIL -HARD ROCK FROM THE MIDDLE EAST(ULTRA-RARE PSYCHEDELIC 1967)Label:MUSIC ON VINYL Reissue ULTRA-RARE PSYCHEDELIC 1967 hard-rock album from US studio formation DEVIL'S ANVIL. DEVIL’S KITCHEN- ST(SF 60s psych) Label:LYSERGIC SOUND First ever release by DEVIL’S KITCHEN, perhaps the best of the greatly talented but “forgotten” bands from the legendary San Francisco psychedelic scene of the late 1960’s. This heavy guitar-powered psychedelic four piece band moved from their original Southern Illinois base to the Bay Area during The Summer Of Love. The band came to the attention of Bill Graham and Chet Helms in 1968 and was soon playing on a regular basis at The Fillmore West. A short time later Devil’s Kitchen became the house band at Helms’ Family Dog Ball-room on The Great Highway in San Francisco and remained there in that capacity from the spring of 1968 until the summer of 1970. Devil’s Kitchen played all the major venues in The Bay Area and Los Angeles during this time period, opening for and playing frequently with many very well-known bands, including The Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Santana, Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Allman Brothers, Big Brother And The Holding Company with Janis, The Charlatans and many, many others. The band spurned a recording contract offer from Mercury Records in 1968, displeased with the lack of creative control offered them by the label. Consequently, they never released any recordings. There are eight original unreleased tracks on this album and all were taken from the original master tapes that were recorded in 1969 at The Family Dog Ballroom On The Great Highway in San Francisco and the Sierra Sound Recording Studio in Berkeley. The music has a great and unmistakable late 60’s acid-drenched West Coast guitar-driven blues-psych sound with snakey electric slide and roaring fuzz guitar throughout, provided by the talented Robbie Stokes who later went on to play with Quicksilver Messenger Service and appeared on Mickey Hart’s 1972 “Rolling Thunder” LP, just to mention two of his many musical credits. The discovery of these master tapes and this subsequent release of Devil’s Kitchen’s first full length album, more than forty years after the recordings were made, is an exciting find for the collectors of obscure 60’s psychedelia. How a great band like this remained under the radar and unreleased for all these years is mystifying. Limited pressing of 1,000 hand-numbered copies. Welcome again to the great San Francisco sound of the late 1960’s! LP $21 SKU:12995

DEVOTIONALS - TYSON VOGEL of TWO GALLANTS- with inner sleeve Label:ALIVE Devotionals is the new solo project by Tyson Vogel of Two Gallants. Tyson trades his drum set for a guitar and the result is amazing. Two Gallants debut album "The Throes" was released in 2004 on Alive Naturalsound, two albums on Saddle Creek followed, "What The Toll Tells" in 2006, and "Two Gallants" in 2007. Devotionals music is based around Tyson’s guitar compositions, with Anton Patzner (Judgement Day, Bright Eyes) invigorating the musical space with his violin mastery, and they are joined by various guests and collaborators. The result is a unique combination of simplicity and raw emotion that will delight new and old fans of Two Gallants, a kind of street music with nods to Rachmaninov and John Fahey. The recording is entirely analog. LP $5 SKU:11822
