GARDENS - ST DIGIPAK WITH DIGITAL BOOKLET SAALE - Label:ALIVE Formed by Matthew Mueller, Jeffrey Thomas, Julian Spradlin and Vincent Mazzola, they have already released a couple of singles and cassette, and toured the country, sharing the stage with the likes of Brimstone Howl, Thee Oh Sees, Detroit Cobras, Akron Family, and Tyvek, to name just a few. CD $5 SKU:12922

GERMS- Germicide - :Live at the Whiskey 77 SAALE - Label:BOMP Records We are seldom lucky enough to hear one of our favorite bands at the earliest state of development. In the case of the Germs, LA's most radical punk band, someone was fortunately on hand with a remote 8-track studio to record their very first gig. Part of Kim Fowley's 1977 "Punk Rock Weekend" at the Whiskey a Go Go, it's a rough, honest, eye-opening set, showing the Germs as they really were. Originally released in a limited vinyl edition in 1980, Germicide quickly went out of print, then was issued cassette-only by ROIR. With new liner notes by Kim Fowley and former drummer Don Bolles. CD $15 SKU:2052

GNIDROLOG- In Spite of Harry’s Toenail w bonus tracks and booklets ( 70s Brit prog ) SAALE - Label:AUDIO ARCHIVES Newly remastered from the original master tapes and features a previously unreleased bonus track, a booklet that fully restores all original album artwork with a new essay. GOSPEL OAK - St ( w. pop, blues, hippie rock, & country influences. w background notes and images.) - Label:AURORA (UK) First CD reissue of Gospel Oak's 1970 debut self-titled album. Formed in London in 1969, Gospel Oak, a band of American expats (including future Kingfish leader Matthew Kelly), was unable to gig in the UK due to work permit issues, so the group focused instead on rehearsing and writing an album. Gospel Oak appeared in the autumn of 1970, by which time the band had returned to the US. A superb blend of folk, pop, blues, rock, and country influences, it has a growing cult reputation and makes its long-awaited CD debut here, complete with detailed background notes and images. Digitally remastered. CD $17 SKU:16463

GOSPELBEACH- Pacific Surf Line- Digipack Label:ALIVE GospelbeacH is Tom Sanford (drums), Brent Rademaker (vocals, guitar), Jason Soda (vocals, guitar), Neal Casal (vocals, guitar), and Kip Boardman (vocals, bass), with guest appearance by Nelson Bragg (vocal harmonies), and Ben Knight (guitar).
The five members of GospelbeacH possess a prestigious collective resume that includes membership in Beachwood Sparks, Further, The Tyde, the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals, and Everest. But one listen to the quintet’s warmly wonderful debut album Pacific Surf Line will instantly dispel any preconceptions about supergroup self-indulgence or side-project slumming.
The album—which Brent and Jason co-produced with Scott Hackwith, known for his studio work with the likes of Spiritualized and the Ramones—embodies an open-hearted optimism that’s reflected in the band’s sunny, upbeat songcraft, and in the buoyant, organic performances that show off the quintet’s uncanny, instinctive chemistry.A sunny, breezy debut. – NPR A sleepy (stoned?) version of folk-rock structures that’s somewhere between kaleidoscopic alt-country and the times when the Grateful Dead decided to color within the lines. – SPIN

GROK - The Anthology 64-2014 digipack Label:OHO MUSIC If OHO is Baltimore's answer to Pink Floyd, then Grok is Baltimore's answer to Jethro Tull. The sixteen songs found on this anthology album date as far back as 1964, which does pre-date Jethro Tull's inception, but not by very much. The earlier songs have a much stronger '60s rock feel along the vein of bands like the Byrds, the Turtles, et al. "Insanity" sports an endorsement of Pepsi Co. much like the Turtles' endorsement of the Chevy Camaro, and there is a not-so-subtle nod to the humor of Baltimore-born Frank Zappa's humorous rock in "C.R.S.", but it's songs like "The Lady & the Serpent"--a fifteen minute prog/space rock trip-fest--and "Gravel in My Shoe" that draw up some pretty strong similarities to Ian Anderson and his work. HANDSOME JACK- Do What Comes Naturally -digipack -Label:ALIVE REVIEW by Shawn Obnoxious “ Naturally” hits with blues fused rock and roll that truly grips you. There’s a certain charm in the mix… A real honesty that you find in those nowadaysands that are sectioned off from the mainstream… Handsome Jack deliver a confidence that only you can accept or deny. The truth isn’t for just anyone these days. The only factor that suffers with a band like Handsome Jack is the reality of the fact, that music, of any genre, suffers. There is a lot of music out ‘there’ riding invisible rays and available thru a multitude of formats and accessibilities. You gotta dig deep and find what connects with you before it’s lost in the shuffle of the beast called Right Fucking Now. As listens of “Naturally” tallied, the more and more I appreciated the release as a whole… The sorts of fondness that would not be found in a big-shot music reviewer scanning ten seconds of each track then spit out a few adjectives to coincide with that press release. Fuck that.Rock N Roll isn’t dead if you don’t want it to be. Let’s try to spend some time with a CD or record or whatever, to connect once again. Yes, it comes naturally to just hit the button to most, but not because we want to, it’s because some have too. Take some time with “Naturally”. Turn it up. Sit a while. Open up your mind and your ears. You just might like something after all without being given permissions by the industry. CD $12 SKU:16201

HARDY FRANCOISE- TOUS LES GARCONS ET LES FILLIES - SALE Label:FUTURE DAYS Hardy was immortalized in 1964 in a poem by Bob Dylan, she associated with The Stones, and dined with Beatles Paul McCartney and George Harrison. She also soon gained more creative control over her music, and she now distances herself from these early recordings where this was not the case. “Even if I had been able to say something about the production,” she says now, “maybe I would have been listened to, but I didn’t know anything.” CD $15 SKU:17222

HERNANDEZ, LUIS VIVI -Napoleon ( Great offbeat garage rock from 1960s Mexico )-Label:VAM RECORDS (MEXICO) Great offbeat garage rock from 1960s Mexico. Luis "Vivi" Hernandez was the vocalist for Los Crazy Boys and, fittingly, the album begins with "Napoleon XIV," where he plays the role of a frantic lunatic who thinks he's Napoleon and is being carried off to the asylum! The album also features great Spanish-language covers of classics like "Tobacco Road" and The Strangeloves' "Night Time." If you enjoy '60s garage rock, you'll like this record! HOLLIS BROWN - CD BUNDLE - LOADED / RIDE ON THE TRAIN - both on digipack - Label:ALIVE CUSTOMER REVIEW - “I have played that song about 20 times since last night . I even had to listen to Lou reed's original, and honestly I like Hollis Brown's cover better. “ Paul Cerio Hollis Brown "Gets Loaded", is a song-for-song recreation of the Velvet's 1970 album "Loaded", which is widely believed to be their most accessible work. Released for Record Store Day as a ltd. edition of 500 copies, pressed on hand-mixed starburst with three different colors. It started out as live tribute last November. Lenny Kaye, Arto Lindsay, Voidoids’ Ivan Julian and others convened at NYC’s Bowery Electric to pay homage to the late, great Lou Reed. HOLLOW POINTS-The Black Spot produced by Duane PetersLAST COPIES - Label:DISASTER Records Produced by Duane Peters. “The young band has matured fast in its four years to become one of Seattle's most well-respected punk bands--locally and nationally. After some lineup adjustments, Early shares the stage with drummer Dan and guitarist Matty, and the combination gives new meaning to the phrase "power trio." In comparison to their Bullet Holes in City Walls debut and Annihilation EP, The Black Spot is just as feral but uncoils their energy with more thought for crafting catchy rock 'n' roll anthems--anthems that easily keep pace with the larger bands with whom they've shared stages: the Distillers, Swingin' Utters, and the Exploited. Nearly every song starts at a 10 and ratchets up the energy level to choruses that would sound jubilant were they not really about the atrocities of violence and dictator nations.” - Jennifer Maerz / The Stranger CD $3 SKU:2259

The release features their LP 'Hypsterization!', originally released on Voxx in 1980, as well as the band's first EP, plus an array of previously unreleased material; a total of 37 tracks on brilliant high-energy garage. Along with the Chesterfield Kings on the East Coast and the Crawdaddys in San Diego, the Hypstrz were the first to mine a fogotten motherlode of hopeless obsucre 45s dropped worldwide by hapless teen combos" - City Pages CD $5 SKU:4324

IL BALLETTO DI BRONZO - Serio 2222 - W 12 PAGE BOOKLET ( Raw-edged heavy rock ) -Label:LION Raw-edged heavy rock, fronted by Lino Ajello's powerful electric guitars, channeling the dark, jagged energy of Jimmy Page, Adrian Gurvitz, and Jeff Beck. Il Balletto di Bronzo absorbed their influences (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds), but moved from there into an inspired, hard-edged musical space; the band's overwhelming power and great melodies make them irresistible. ‘Un posto’ and ‘Neve Calda’ are centered around simple but effective guitar riffs. ‘Eh eh ah ah’ starts like a nice mellow ballad, but gets into a hard blues rock groove. On side two, there's the seven-minute mammoth heavy grind of ‘Incantesimo’ and the colossal ‘Missione Sirio 2222,’ almost ten minutes of droning acid rock with whirling guitars and heavy pounding drums, sandwiched between an acoustic intro and outro. No wonder Nurse With Wound cited Il Balletto di Bronzo as an influence. Digipack comes with 12-page color booklet discussing Il Balletto Di Bronzo's strange legacy. CD $14 SKU:16072

EMBER BEAT 60S POP Vol 1 - VA Say When SALE! - Label:FANTASTIC VOYAGE In 1959, Jeffrey Kruger launched Ember Records as an independent, one of very few in the UK, where the majors held sway in that era. Straight away, the label set about trying to break into the charts with many fine pop releases. This CD series The Ember Sixties Pop series will collect the best of those records on to several volumes, starting with this compilation, which covers up to 1961. Michael Cox had appeared on Jack Good s television show Boy Meets Girl . Jack introduced him to Joe Meek who produced Angela Jones . Initially released on Meek s own Triumph label, and then on Ember. Grant Tracy & The Sunsets were signed up in early 1961. The Sunsets tried their luck first with Cry Of The Wild Goose , flipped by Manhunt , written by their guitarist, the young Pete Honeybus Dello. Their debut vocal sides Say When and Please Baby Please were written by Pomus-Shuman. Grant sounds a little like Elvis on the follow-up, Pretend backed with the King s own Love Me . The songs on Ray Merrell s Ember release were written by Ray together with Don Black and Cyril Stapleton under various pseudonyms. Why Did You Leave Me and Teenage Love are infectious teen items with pizzicato strings and strong lead guitar. Roy Young was on another Jack Good television show Oh Boy! . Roy recorded the storming Four An Twenty Thousand Kisses before going to Hamburg to appear with The Beatles when they were still called The Beat Brothers. Cuddly Duddly was probably the best known black British singer in 1961 thanks to many TV appearances, also on Oh Boy! . He is backed on the rocking Sitting On A Train and One That I Like by The Redcaps. The Larry Lawrence tracks have a strong Bill Black Combo influence, especially on the chugging Jug-A-Roo . Ray Ellington had the benefit of backing by Tony Crombie s band, and everybody was swinging nicely on Jump Over and The Madison . Julie, Hazel and Betty Dunderdale shortened their name to The Dale Sisters for their Ember debut, the bright and breezy My Sunday Baby . Pianist Tommy Sanderson was amongst the elite of London session players, frequently joined on dates by Bert Weedon on guitar and Ronnie Verrell on drums, who may have been The Sandmen on Deadline . Many of these original singles are highly collectable (mint copies of Michael Cox are valued at £45 and both the Grant Tracy & The Sunsets releases at £20). Subsequent volumes will carry the story through to the end of the sixties, with sought after tracks by Carter, Lewis & The Southerners and Mark Douglas amongst those included. The series is complemented by compilations devoted to Beat and rock from the Ember vaults. Recordings are mastered from tape, where available, and booklets illustrated with sleeve and label shots. EMBER BEAT 60S POP VOL 3 - VA Hello My Angel SALE - Label:FANTASTIC VOYAGE In 1960, Jeffrey Kruger launched Ember Records as an independent, one of very few in the UK, where the majors held sway. Straight away, the label set about trying to break into the charts with many fine pop releases. The Ember Sixties Pop series will collate the best of those records. “Hello My Angel” is the third installment. For his debut single, Ray Singer was backed by the arranging and producing talents of ace session pianist Arthur Greenslade and drummer Bobby Graham. Ray wrote the lively ‘Tell Me Now’ himself, while the bluesy flip ‘I’m Comin’ Home’ was provided by future Beach Boy Bruce Johnston. Norman Fowler from York acquired the stage name Steve Cassidy for his 1963 John Barry-produced Ember 45; ‘Ecstasy’ was penned by the unusual combination of Marty Wilde and Mike Pratt, the latter a future star in the TV series Randall & Hopkirk. Count Downe & The Zeros were signed at the beginning of 1964 and cut their solitary single at Olympic. The plug side ‘Hello My Angel’ is included here. Checking the original tapes for this compilation has turned up a tremendous trove of tracks that were unissued at the time. They will be of considerable interest to Sixties collectors. Mark Wirtz masterminded Marcus Tro’s only 45, writing, arranging and producing b-side ‘What’s The Matter Little Girl.’ Another strong Wirtz production is Sheila & Jenny’s cover of ‘When The Boy’s Happy’ (a fine Jeff Barry-Ellie Greenwich number originally a US hit for The Four Pennies aka The Chiffons). Chad Stuart & Jeremy Clyde were Ember’s most successful artists in the States. ‘Lemon Tree’ had previously been a hit for Peter, Paul & Mary, while ‘Early In The Morning’ was actually composed by Paul. Russ Hamilton re-recorded 1957 hit ‘We Will Make Love’ for Ember with a more Sixties sound from the Greenslade-Graham team at Olympic. Ray Ellington’s fourth single for the company combined Lionel Bart’s ‘Rhythm Of The World’ with Roy Orbison’s ‘If You Can’t Say Anything Nice.’ Lynn Holland’s only Ember 45 featured energetic versions of the standards ‘And The Angels Sing’ and ‘I Can’t Read Your Writing (For My Tears).’ Pete Dello of The Sunsets’ melodic ‘Little Kelly’ first appeared on their 1964 LP Teenbeat. FILE UNDER MALE VOCAL- VA - Last copies- SAALE -Label:PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK) The Golden Age of the Beat Balladeer. After enjoying countless compilation albums of psych, beat, garage, girl groups, instrumentals, soul, exotica etc., the Psychic Circle label now releases a compilation which concentrates on that most popular of '60s phenomena, the British male vocalist. These are great tracks and performances that can't really be considered beat, soul or psych, but at the same time conjure a similar sort of mental image. Solid, classy songs performed by great singers which readily evoke the sense of excitement and freshness prevalent in that decade. As legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond) expounds, "What I was trying to assemble for this album was a selection of quality male vocal, with a kind of pop/beat feel. The kind of thing you might have heard in any London discotheque alongside the beat groups, the Stateside soul-sounds, the groovy girls and burgeoning psych riffs. Nothing too MOR or fey, just cool guys doing what they did best. I reckon it's a long overdue examination of a hitherto overlooked genre. It doesn't really need a label, but if you want to give it one, just file under - male vocal." Artists include: Mickey Clarke, Jason Cord, Gerry Deville, Dominic Grant, Nicholas Hammond, Christian Ward, Graham Bell, Jerry Page, Dane Hunter, Brian Keith, Keith Powell, Don Adams, Neil Landon, Greg Hunter, Dave Walton, Danny Street, Dorian Gray, Rudi Bennett, Ronnie Jones, and James Royal. GAIETY RECORDS STORY- VOL.2 (Rare 60s garage, punk & psych singles) SALE! Label:PACEMAKER At last, a second collection of rare singles from the label that produced the cream of the mid-sixties crop of Canadian garage, punk, and psychedelic music! The Gaiety roster was rich in talent (the 49th Parallel, Jarvis Street Review, and Souls of Inspyration, not to mention the Checkerlads, White Knights, Dewline, Tomorrow's Keepsake, NRG, Merriday Park, and Portland Street South)—but it was not rich in resources, which is why these singles are so incredibly rare. This second Gaiety Records volume has twenty-four tracks in all, ranging from the ferocious punk psych of Solid Reputation’s ‘Lies’ to the wonderfully druggy (and truly demented) ‘Ode to a Cucumber, A Berry, and A Flower", a song that deserves to be in the pantheon of weird psychedelia right alongside the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band’s ‘Help, I’m a Rock’. NRG’s UK psych-inspired ‘Magic Man,’ much in demand in collector’s circles, is here in all its glory—along with six other tracks by this underrated band, including the psychedelic groover ‘Withcraft’. Other highlights are four more terrific beat/pop songs from the Plague and Lexington Avenue (bands who would become better known later as Jarvis Street Review). Tracks by the Checkerlads, Tomorrow's Keepsake, Flying Colours, Portland Street South, round out the disc, and (we hope) bring pleasure to everyone. COMP CD $12 SKU:16069

WITH LOVE- VA- A POT OF FLOWERS ( 60S PSYCH ) 180 gram Label:MAINSTREAM
With Love - A Pot Of Flowers" was originally issued in 1967 by Mainstream Records ostensibly to cash-in upon the growing fascination with San Francisco. In 1966, label boss Bob Shad had issued several unsuccessful singles by Bay Area groups, and by collecting them together on LP he unwittingly created one of the more satisfying surveys of the scene at the time. The groups included on "A Pot Of Flowers" were the Wildflower, pioneering folk-rockers who were an early fixture at the Fillmore and Avalon; San Jose's popular garage band the Otherside; legendary East Bay punks the Harbinger Complex; and, from southern California, the idiosyncratic Euphoria, whose off-beat take on psychedelia has given the group a cult reputation. Doubling the album's original tracklist, Big Beat adds a swathe of rare material, including folk-rock and proto-psych sides by associated West Coast acts such as the New Dawn, Word, Ariel and Unusuals, and several stellar unissued garage rockers from the Ban and Montells. Detailed liner notes provide context with both the group's individual histories and an overview of Mainstream's activities on the West Coast COMP LP $16 SKU:17230

LP3 and The Tragedy- Southland Hum LTD ED PURPLE VINYL SALE -Label:MAPLEWOOD Louie Perez III and his band the Tragedy emerged from the type of musical lineage and pedigree that produces not just great records, but interesting records. LP3 & the Tragedy’s debut record Southland Hum is just that, a great record that tells an interesting story. Louie shares his father’s name, Louis Perez Jr., who happens to be a founding member of the seminal American rock band Los Lobos. Born in East Los Angeles, Louie III has lived all around the southland culminating in the experiences that make up this record. Louie has always been a talented artist, becoming well-known in the tattoo scene where he works at the venerated Shamrock Social Club in Hollywood.Southland Hum tells the stories of Californians through the lens of its everyday average people. Numbers such as Farm, Uneasy Street, City of Dreams and Southland Hum describe the vivid landscapes of Southern California and the people who live, love and work there. These aren’t the lives of celebrities and the Hoi Polloi. These are the lives of migrants, the working-man, and young people searching for a meaningful existence. Join Louie (Guitar, Vocals), Ruby Rosas (Bass, Vocals), Eric Fuller (Drums, Percussion), Carlos Guzman (Guitars), and Mike Berault (Keys, Accordion) as they take you along for a ride telling a story about Southern California’s rich landscape of rolling hills that are intermixed with miles of concrete, worn art deco buildings, and the aspiring dreams of those looking to get into show business or even just a decent well-paying job. And in the background of it all shines the hazy, skewed faded sunshine of Southern California. LP $5 SKU:17629
