GUILLOTINED AT THE HANGAR- Shielded by Death Vol 2(rare and raging punk r 79-84 KBD style) -Label:DIONYSUS In the spirit of the Killed By Death series, about two years ago, a great late 70s, early 80s comp called Shielded by Death appeared on Germany’s Incognito label. Compiler Keith Grave has come up with yet another collection of rare and raging punk rock from ’79 through ’84 from Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. Bacchus Archives presents present 20 tracks of primal American punk, featuring some names you might have heard of (Jack Tragic, Chronic Disorder, 8th Route Army, The Foreign Objects) and, unless you lived in the region we’ve focused on, may not have heard of. This doesn’t matter. The entire comp is a treat to fans of old punk rock and we’ll equate this to some of our regional 60s comps such as The East Side Sound and Legend City. COMP CD $5 SKU:19019

SEEDS TURN TO FLOWERS TURN TO DUST- VA (60s/ 70s garage psych)Label:BACCHUS This heavy dose of psychedelia consists of many obscure garage groups that were still dishing out the goods into the late '60s. Consider these discs the last remnants of the small record labels until punk rock came along in the 70's. This compilation opens up with Their Eminence's brilliant "Mary," giving the "Mary Had A Little Lamb" nursery rhymes a lysergic twist with some ace fuzz guitar. This piece of garage/psych crossover came from acetate of completely unknown origins. The David's brilliant "People Saying, People Seeing" is also featured as well as fuzzy and over-the-top sounds by The Blades Of Grass, The Weathervane, Turquoise, The Movement, The Black Sun, Lazy Nickels, Wicked Truth, Blackrock, Sherman Marshall and others. SOME ITEMS NOT PREVIOUSLY LISTED, LAST COPIES, AND THINGS YOU MAY HAVE MISSED~!

BUFFALO KILLERS- 3 (ltd edition of 500 BLUE vinyl)Label:ALIVE Here is the long awaited third album by Ohio trio The BUFFALO KILLERS. The band, formed by brothers Zachary and Andrew Gabbard, with Joseph Sebaali, released their first “Self-titled” album in October of 2006 on Alive Naturalsound records. They drew the attention of Chris Robinson, who invited the band to open a string of dates for The BLACK CROWES. That road trip spawned the songs for the band’s second long player, “Let It Ride” produced by Dan Auerbach of The BLACK KEYS. Most recently, the Buffalo Killers collaborated with Kelley Deal on the just released “Sing For Your Meat: A Tribute to Guided By Voices.” “What the Jesus and Mary Chain were to the ‘80s, Buffalo Killers may well be to this decade, brilliantly bringing the beloved sounds of yesterday into a new millennium.”– Jo-Ann Greene/All Music Guide “I have been into those guys for a long time. Back when they were in Thee Shams I brought them on the road with The Black Keys. I didn’t hear anything from them for a while after Thee Shams disbanded until the next thing I know the Buffalo Killers first record is coming out. I bought a copy of it and was stunned, like ‘Holy sh*t.’ They transformed from a good garage rock band to light years ahead of what they were doing in terms of songwriting, arrangement, and harmonies.” – Dan Auerbach in JamBase “There’s another band like that I really love, from Cincinnati, the Buffalo Killers. They’re a three-piece Mid-western rock’n’roll band-really f*cking good songs.”Chris Robinson in Mojo LP $16 SKU:13221

BRIMSTONE HOWL- Big Deal What’s He Done Lately ORANGE VINYL LAST copies Label:ALIVE Lincoln, NE's favorite garage sons, and their third LP for Alive records. This time the gang went to Costa Mesa, CA, to record "Big Deal. What's He Done Lately?" (the title references a quote from Johnny Ramone about Phil Spector) at The Distillery under the guidance of engineer/producer Mike McHugh (known to produce some of the most heinous, blown-out sounds this side of the galaxy, including Black Lips, Jon Spencer and Andre Williams). The result is considerably more fuzzed than their previous work with Detroit producer Jim Diamond but still pummels. The main characteristic of this album is its heat. Analog from start to finish. Recorded to tape. Mixed to tape. And from tape the wax was cut. This record sounds hot! LP $16 SKU:10948

RESTOCKS

BLACK KEYS - Rubber Factory 180 gram -Label:FAT POSSUM 2004 release, the third album from the acclaimed Alt-Rock/Blues duo. Rubber Factory continues the Black Keys' tradition of raw, heavily blues-influenced indie rock. Rubber Factory was recorded in an abandoned coal burning power plant in the Black Keys' hometown of Akron, Ohio, and like Thickfreakness, was recorded and produced by Patrick Carney. LP $16 SKU:16536

BLACK PYRAMID- II(STONER PSYCH) DOUBLE CLEAR/GREENLabel:HEADSPIN Limited edition 200 copies 2x180 gram translucent dark green swirl vinyl, housed in majestic gatefold sleeve. Known for its dynamic sound that blends towering riff cosmos with magnetic psychedelic rock, BLACK PYRAMID has been turning heads in the underground music world since its formation in late 2007; the response to its initial demo and debut 7" was such that the band's name spread even faster than its music. The group's instantly agreeable bang and spectacular live shows has garnered the trio an army of loyal enthusiasts. BLACK PYRAMID's thunderous tone, fire-eating licks, lyrical bent and single-minded devotion to music has enabled the trio to share the stage with a variety of like-minded heavy rock acts - from Electric Wizard to Black Mountain - and have pegged the unit as a "band to watch". Heavier and more atmospheric than the band's debut, Black Pyramid II contains BLACK PYRAMID's most ambitious material to date; a fact especially underlined by the epic, 15 minute long closing track "Into The Dawn." When writing the album, the band drew inspiration from "Lovecraft, Robert E Howard, Edison's second book "Mistress Of Mistresses" and both Norse and Indian mythology", while a big influence as far as source material was Grant Morrison's "The Invisibles", the popular comic book series with a plot that follows (more or less) a single cell of "The Invisible College", a secret organization "battling against physical and psychic oppression using time travel, magic, meditation and violence." LP $28 SKU:18746

BLUE ASH - HEARTS & ARROWS + 7 2xLP (GATEFOLD)-Label:YOU ARE THE COSMOS Includes a bonus acoustic 7" EP This two-disc compilation brings together the cream of 1970s Ohio garage rockers Blue Ash's extensive recordings. Features 24 tracks, including "Baby I Just Want You" and "Smash My Guitar. LP $28 SKU:16778

BLUE ASH - No More, No LESS 150 GRAM (1973)Label:URANUS Blue Ash's stunning debut album, pressed for the first time since 1973
Contains 12 Power Pop classics, including "Abracadabra (Have You Seen Her?)" and "Smash My Guitar" Pressed on 150-gram black vinyl and housed inside a full-color sleeve Limited to 500 copies Hailing from Youngstown, Ohio, Blue Ash are the great, forgotten power pop band of the early '70s. Actually, "forgotten" may be too strong a word, for any power pop fan worth their salt knows of Blue Ash even if they've never been able to score either of their two LPs. Blue Ash were a rock band first and foremost, placing the sheer rush of sound over hooks, something that a lot of their progeny never did. That's what gives their debut No More No Less…such a punch: they are one of the few groups that truly put some power in their pop. This much is evident by the raucous album-opener "Abracadabra (Have You Seen Her)," a song with all the melodic rush of "Go All the Way" but leaner and meaner.“The LP is without a doubt one of the finest debut albums of the rock era.” - Dave Goeller, Family Magazine “A masterclass in combining a hard-rocking rhythmic punch to crisp three-part harmony vocals and soaring melodic lines” - Alan Brown, Pop Matters LP $18 SKU:17781

BOKAJ RETSIEM - Psychedelic Underground (enthusiastic psych-kr*ut trip for fans of Vanilla Fudge, Hendrix, and Iron Butterfly) SAALE -Label:HIMALAYA Credited as one of the best late 60's German psych-rock albums, Bokaj Retsiem's ("meister Jakob" with reversed letters!) "Psychedelic Underground" is an eccentric, soulful, acid and fuzzy rockin' essay that clearly prefigures a part of the Krautrock movement. Featuring Rainer Deigner, former guitar for the sixties beat German group Former Bonds, as the only credited musician and composer on this album (although other musicians assisted him on bass, keyboards, and that B3 Hammond and Leslie sound), this is basically Rainer's freaked-out tribute to his favorite children's song, "Meister Jakob", consisting in trippy instrumental sections, furiously savage e-guitar crescendos, amazing psych-rock improvisation, with just a hint of 60's US psych-garage. A real enthusiastic psych-kraut trip for fans of Vanilla Fudge, Hendrix, and Iron Butterfly.
LP $19 SKU:15254

BOMBORAS- Savage Island- PRE SURF!Label:DIONYSUS The BOMBORAS started a wave of instrumental/surf/garage music in the mid-'90s that washed over the entire Alt Rock scene as they took over as Los Angeles' most popular local band. It seemed impossible at a time ruled by "grunge" that a band dedicated to the sounds and looks of the '60s would become the toast of the town, receive enough press to rival the thickness of a big-city phone book, fill huge Los Angeles nightclubs and inspire bands to dress and sound like The BOMBORAS (as well as name themselves after BOMBORAS songs, such as the band Knuckle Dragger to name but one.) They even ended up with one album on the Rob Zombie ran Zombie Au Go-Go label through Geffen Records right before Universal ate 'em up. LP $14 SKU:16335

BONE MAN - III (STONER psych) -Label:PINK TANK RECORDS The fifth album by German psychedelic rockers Bone Man. The way they seamlessly move from psych to stoner to punk and back again is a joy to behold. Limited edition of 350 copies on black vinyl. LP $22 SKU:18671

BRACKETT,ALAN LEE-Peanut Butter Conspiracy Theories: Lost Songs 1967-1968-Label:OUT-SIDER Out-Sider present Peanut Butter Conspiracy Theories: Lost Songs 1967-1968, previously unreleased recordings by The Peanut Butter Conspiracy's main-man, Alan Lee Brackett. Mostly written and recorded in 1967, when PBC were at their fame peak, Alan explores a number of different styles, encompassing fuzzed-out garage numbers, sunshine pop, folk rock and full blown psychedelia. Including ahead of its time garage-psychedelic, DIY homemade recordings on which Alan plays all instruments by himself plus pro-sounding studio cuts. Although best known as a member of The Peanut Butter Conspiracy, Alan Brackett enjoyed a long career in the music business that book-ended his time with that legendary group. A multi-talented musician so adept at playing numerous musical instruments, he was a veritable one man band, and a skilled songwriter who penned many of the PBC's best loved songs. Alan's musical pedigree is second to none. From his early days on the folk circuit through his time with one of the West Coast's premier psychedelic groups and on to his solo career in the seventies, he crafted a body of work that many musicians would envy. Most of the tracks included here were recorded by Alan between 1967 and 68 at his home studio, using a Teac A1200 tape deck. His employed an innovative DIY approach: he used improvised drum kits made up from household objects and manipulated amps and guitars to create feedback and distortion effects. The remaining tracks from this collection were laid down during sessions at a pro studio, Hollywood Sound, although such is the quality of Alan's home recordings you would be hard pressed to single out which ones were made in more professional surroundings. There are surprising guests such as Glen Campbell, who plays tasty lead guitar on "Freeways Of Love". Alan also collaborates with his friend Knox Henderson (songwriter of some of the hits for Mouse & The Traps) on a couple of tracks included here. Songs like "Shell Of A Man", or "Blowin' My Mind Over You" could've been easily included on any of the Peanut Butter Conspiracy albums, while others like "Summertime Changes" or "Love's Only Sleeping" are amazing examples of homemade, DIY psych-fuzz. Master tape sound; Insert with detailed liner notes by Gary Newell (Shindig!, Ugly Things), track-by-track comments by Alan Lee Brackett and rare photos. LP $24 SKU:18296

BRAINBOX- Dark Rose - (60s Dutch psych ) - Label:PSEUDONYM It comes packaged in a magnificent gatefold-cover with rare photos and liner-notes including exclusive interview material. Remastered in the 24-bit domain from the original master tapes. Brainbox was something special. The band not only featured some of the Netherlands' most preternaturally talented musicians, but in less than three years they produced a recorded legacy that was truly world class. Much of their best work appeared on their 1969-71 singles, which have been compiled on this definitive 2-LP collection, pressed on 180gm vinyl and dynamically re-mastered from the original tapes. The original lineup with lead-guitarist Jan Akkerman, bassist Andr Reijnen, drummer Pierre van der Linden and vocalist extraordinaire Kaz Lux deliver the goods on pile-driving blues rock songs like 'Down Man' and 'Dark Rose,' and the hard-hitting Hendrix-inspired rocker 'Amsterdam, The First Days' -- all presented in their original mono mixes. After Akkermans departure, Brainbox expanded its musical palette with guitarists Rudy de Queljoe (ex-Dragonfly) and John Schuursma (ex-Rob Hoekes R&B Group), recording memorable tracks like 'Between Alpha And Omega,' 'Doomsday Train,' 'Mobilae' and the blisteringly powerful 'Virgin.' Dark Rose / Their 45s also includes previously unreleased demo-versions of 'Virgin,' 'Dark Rose' and the epic 'Sea Of Delight.' LP $32 SKU:14720

BUHL, J.D. -LITTLE VICTORIES 1978-1985 (CALIFORNIA POP)-Label:MIGHTY MOUTH MUSIC .D. Buhl is Berkeley, California's best-kept pop secret. After fronting an early version of late-70s new wave group the Jars, he led his own band the Believers through the first half of the 1980s. These bands existed during an exciting period of music history, a time when pop-driven rock n' roll had no rules, expectations or boundaries. Little Victories 1978-1985 hand picks twelve songs from the rare and out of print J.D. Buhl catalog (some unreleased) and presents them in a complete, cohesive collection. J.D. says it best, as he describes his songwriting as being "clever and hooky, about drive, feel and guitar riffs and out to capture imaginations." If you're a sucker for passionate vocals and music with a danceable beat, give J.D. Buhl a listen. Recommended for fans of the Nerves, Paul Collins Beat, the Plimsouls, the Go-Gos, the Textones, Joe "King" Carrasco and the Fleshtones. LP $16 SKU:18514

First time official reissue of highly collectable 1970 debut album by this legendary Belgian PSYCHEDELIC BLUES ROCK band. Burning Plagues self-titled 1970 debut album provided a flashpoint for Belgium's burgeoning blues rock scene, ramping up the intensity so far at various points that it verged on heavy. It wasn't quite enough to make the band famous, but their ballsy blues rock played through massive 100-watt Marshall stacks has made the original LP a highly-coveted collectors item that now commands princely sums. After many shoddy bootlegs, Pseudonym Records is proud to present the first legitimate reissue, 24-bit remastered from the original tapes with the full cooperation of the band. LP $22 SKU:16785

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART -Full Moon - Hot Sun Live in Kansas-Label:KEYHOLE (UK) 180-gram LP. Includes insert. Following the collapse of the original Magic Band in early 1974, Captain Beefheart swiftly assembled an all-new line-up to promote his controversial 1974 Unconditionally Guaranteed LP. Comprising Fuzzy Fuscaldo and Dean Smith (guitar), Del Simmons (sax, flute), Michael Smotherman (keyboards), Paul Uhrig (bass), and Ty Grimes (drums), they played in a markedly more straightforward style, in keeping with Beefheart's stated ambition to "hug the world." This fine gig, live from the Cowtown Ballroom, Kansas City, MO, was taped for broadcast on KUDL-FM radio on April 22, 1974, and is presented here in its entirety together with contemporaneous notes and rare photos. CARGO - Front Side, Back Side(Canadian 60s psych,One bonus track.* two-page LP-sized insert with short bio, photos and lyrics 180 gram -Label:ANAZITISI This is the first ever reissue. Toronto, Canada based psychedelic quartet began as the Prophets in the mid-60's. Then they renamed The City Suite and finally came the Cargo name. As Cargo they released two LPs and two 7" singles before they split up in 1971. Dreamy psychrock with some mild-jazzy atmospheric improvisations and a couple of spoken mayhem freak-out passages coming between the tracks. Very rare LP, originally released in 1969 on the Merv Buchanan's Trend label, also responsible for the Bent Wind LP. Original basement recording was not a hi-fi one (think of the Bent Wind LP) but also was impossible for Merv to locate the original master-tapes. This reissue has been remastered from two unearthed vinyl copies, so forgive us for any sound imperfections although we spend many months in the studio. Nevertheless this is so rare and this reissue would be a keeper for sure. We have boosted the reissue with one extra track from their first (also on Trend) single. Licensed by Buchanan and made with the help of the original Cargo members. Includes: * Fully laminated cover. * One bonus track. * two-page LP-sized insert with short bio, photos and lyrics.
