Sounding like a blend of Pet Sounds and Odessey & Oracle but with a charming, homemade, lo-fi vibe, The Love Cycle was a concept album masterminded by talented songwriter / arranger John M. Hudson (a kind of Brian Wilson figure), who found in Cambridge band Forever Amber the perfect vehicle for his songwriting ideas. The Love Cycle was Out of print for several years, we’re thrilled to offer a new vinyl reissue of this essential psych album.*Original artwork in backflaps sleeve.*Includes colour insert with rare photos and detailed liner notes by David Wells.RIYL: ZOMBIES, BEATLES, BEACH BOYS, LEFT BANKE, HONEYBUS, BEE GEES…“One of the dozen best British pop albums of the late Sixties” – Mojo“Forever Amber’s The Love Cycle, though, resides in a secret garden all of its own, bursting with unfettered melodic glee and the pop experimentation prevalent in the provinces in 1968.” - Bob Stanley (The Times“…There are more memorable musical hooks per inch on this album than any other record I've heard…” – Stan Denski LP $30 SKU:23701

NEW ARRIVALS

ICE -The Ice Age-Label:RIDING EASY The Ice Age is an exceptional archive of hard edged rock with serious pop hooks akin to something like Grand Funk Railroad meets The Guess Who and The Move. It rocks hard, but is also interlaced with glorious melodic hooks. Had fate been less fickle, this album would’ve long been a classic rock radio staple. CD $10 SKU:19626

HOLDEN, RANDY -Population II Label:RIDING EASY “Godzilla just walked into the room. People just stood there with their eyes and mouths wide open.”
To hear Randy Holden describe the audience’s reaction in 1969 to his solo debut performing with a teeth-rattling phalanx of 16 (sixteen!) 200 watt Sunn amps is about as close as many of us will get to truly experience the moment heavy metal music morphed into existence. However, at last we have unearthed the proper fossil record.Population II, the now legendary, extremely rare album by guitarist/vocalist Holden and drummer/keyboardist Chris Lockheed is considered to be one of the earliest examples of doom metal. Though its original release was a very limited in number and distribution, like all great records, its impact over time has continued to grow. Troubles with the album’s release bankrupted Holden, who subsequently left music for over two decades. It was bootlegged several times over the years, but until now hasn’t seen a proper remaster and has yet to be available on digital platforms. “The original mastering just destroyed the dynamics of it,” Holden says. “They flattened it out. Now we got a really nice remaster that should be the closest thing to the original recording.” CD $10 SKU:19669

CONTENTS ARE - Live Davenport, Iowa 1968 (Iowa legends of psych gem 1969) -Label:ALONA’S DREAM Previously unreleased live recording featuring unheard originals from 1960’s psychedelic legends The Contents Are! •Intense jams for the psychedelic dancehall circa 1968 from these true legends of midwestern rock ’n roll.•Housed in a heavy-duty classic style tip-on jacket including previously unseen pictures and informative liner notes.•Limited editions (respectively) of 500x LPs and 300x Digipak CDsUntil recently, The Contents Are were one of the great forgotten bands of the late 1960’s midwestern psychedelic scene. After their masterpiece LP “Through You” was recorded the band went through their first evolution, switching out bass players Larry Smith for Mick Orton. While honing their new group by hosting a series of live shows in their native Davenport, IA (they were one of the area’s leading draws by this point), Craig was recording the band’s sets using his Ampex two track tape recorder. This album is the result of those recordings. Drawn from his archive of live recordings, they represent the band not only finding their footing after adding a new member but also recording a series of live demos which were then shopped to various producers in the hopes of landing a recording deal and wound up being the catalyst that brought them to Jerry Milam’s Golden Voice Recording Co in South Pekin, IL. It was there they would record their second major album “Four Each Other” which sat unreleased in the band’s archive until it was released via Golden Voice & Alona’s Dream in 2017, to much acclaim! These are more than just a collection of demos; they represent a band in between the early psychedelic folk classic which is their first album and the expansive acid rock evolution of their second album, with many original songs that were only ever played live. The listener can also hear a band who could keep a dancehall moving, a group as capable of being the evening’s entertainers as well as storytellers and poets in the studio. These recordings were restored, carefully mastered and pressed into 160 gram vinyl. Housed in a heavy-duty classic style tip-on jacket including previously unseen pictures and informative liner notes. A rare nine song document of The Contents Are's expansive live sound. Intense jams for the psychedelic dancehall circa 1968 from these true legends of midwestern rock ’n roll. LP $25 SKU:23388

JOSEFUS-Not Dead YET-Unreleased 1978 Studio Sessions & Live” Ltd 2nd PRESSING Label:ShroomAngel Records After several years out of print, a second pressing of this collection of scorching rarities from these venerable and legendary psychedelic hard rockers. •Black vinyl edition of 300x copies. ShroomAngel says:"Josefus is a name that every self-respecting record collector and 60’s rock enthusiast can appreciate. They were raw, uncompromising rockers that played their own unique brand of psychedelic “amped-up” blues rock. Their story is one of hardship and struggle, having lived the life of true hardcore underground rock musicians fighting the establishment during the tumultuous late 60’s and early 70’s. Their first album, “Dead Man," has firmly etched itself into the consciousness of thousands of people and today an original copy can fetch up to $1,000. Recordings of this band are scarce, especially those of any sonic quality, so when we discovered there were unreleased studio sessions dating from the 70’s, we were very excited and rightly so! These lost gems smoke! Painstakingly restored and mastered with state of the art technology, we can now offer up these historic and priceless recordings on a format that will do them justice. The rest of this excellent release contains amazing professional live recordings capturing the band during more recent outings (2004 and 2012) and show them to be as raw and savage as they were in 1969. A welcome release by this venerable band from Houston, Texas. Long Live Josefus!” LP $25 SKU:23764

SPIRITWOOD -ST original sealed copies of this private press Acid Archives fave!Label:Tanrydoon Private pressing from 1979, first released on the Tanrydoon label out of New Berlin, Pa.Original sealed copies, which contain a lyric insert. *an important note* — pressed on flimsy vinyl! —some copies may have dish warp —

but according to all accounts online (Discogs), they still play fine.

“Hippie-flavored rural folk form this duo, who write good songs and deliver tight male-female vocal harmonies. It sounds almost a decade earlier than the release year, and recurring influences from UK folk (like Clearing) contribute further to the sense of displacement. Occasional use of piano and a strong sense of melody have made for some comparisons with Mellow Candle, and it’s a testimony to Spiritwood’s quality that this doesn’t seem too outlandish. There are a few moves towards CSN domains, and late 1960’s westcoast in general, which should have been explored more. The guitar arrangements (with banjo on two trad-ish numbers) interplay seamlessly with the strong vocals, and the personal commitment makes up for a certain lack of artistic direction.” —Acid Archives

“Quite good hippie folk from a young Pennsylvania male-female duo who sing well and display substantial talent. This genre is certainly crowded with half-assed discs, but even a skeptic like me must admit that Spiritwood do their thing well, with a nice mix of westcoast and UK folk moves. Should appeal to Clearing fans, and more consistently good than either of the Clearing albums. Get this before it disappears and gets expensive like Clearing or Window.” —Patrick Lundborg LP $25 SKU:23691

ASTEROID 4-Under My Umbrella (stellar psych pop)Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE Formed in Philadelphia and now based in Northern California, The Asteroid No. 4 have been melting minds since the late ‘90s, with a prolific discography of reverb-drenched recordings that span the sonic spectrum. Influenced by the finest psychedelic bands of every era, from The Beatles to The Rain Parade to Spacemen 3, the group has a unique sound that expands exponentially under the liquid light projections of their fabled live performances. b/w “House Of The Seventh Moon” A bespoke slice of stellar psych pop crafted especially for Hypnotic Bridge, “Under My Umbrella” finds The Asteroid No. 4 time-tripping back to the heyday of psychedelia’s first wave. With prerequisite ADT vocal recording, Leslie speakers, Mellotron, harpsichord and backward guitars, the band pays homage to revered masters such as Tomorrow, The Beatles, The Bee Gees, Donavon, The Hollies (and many more), embracing the atmosphere of London circa 1967 so succinctly that many listeners assume the song is a long-lost classic of the era. House Of The Seventh Moon” takes a more organic approach, enveloping listeners with echoes of The Moody Blues, Grapefruit, Orange Bicycle, early Hawkwind and legendary Bay Area bands that shaped the soundscape of The Asteroid No. 4’s current home. Which is appropriate, as the rich Victorian vernacular of San Francisco and the idyllic countryside of Northern California inspired not only the songs on this single, but also the complementary artwork by one of the band’s favorite artists, Andrew McGranahan, who employed vintage imagery enhanced with a thoroughly modern color palate 45 RPM $10 SKU:22512

FLOWER MACHINE- Through a London Window-Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE Currently based in San Luis Obispo, California, The Flower Machine recorded the basic tracks for their Hypnotic Bridge single in a cavernous warehouse, on a vintage 8-track machine. The tapes were then taken to a studio in Cambria, where they added sitar, flute, organ, backwards guitars and subtle layers of Mellotron cello to complete the A-side, “Through A London Window,” which was inspired in part by Antonioni’s 1966 cinematic masterpiece “Blow Up.”. 45 RPM $10 SKU:22797

HIGHER STATE - In The Morning (psych-folk spirit of ’66 )Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE “In The Morning I Will Roam” b/w “Winter Is Blue” The psych-folk spirit of ’66 comes jangling through the mists of time with the profound sounds and imagery of “In The Morning I Will Roam”, transporting those who listen intently into the pensive, rustic realm of classic British troubadours, from Donovan Leitch to Vashti Bunyan.“Winter Is Blue” is, in fact, one of Vashti’s own early classics, transformed into a perfect complement to the A-side by The Higher State’s visionary take on her obscure contribution to 1968’s “Tonite Let’s All Make Love In London” soundtrack. 45 RPM $10 SKU:21478

TRIPTIDES-Nirvana Now (sun-drenched psych)-Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE “Nirvana Now” b/w “She Is Dressed In Red” An ecstatic reflection on a dream shared by “all who were there”, the paean to enlightenment encapsulated by “Nirvana Now” takes Triptides’ sun-drenched psychedelia to new glorious new heights. Awash in aural delights emanating from a Wurlitzer electric piano along with Epiphone Casino and fuzz guitars, the song has all a seeker of psyched-out bliss could ask for. Shimmering with dronalicious sitar, Farfisa organ, 12-string guitar and Beatle bass, “She Is Dressed In Red” is the perfect marigold comedown after spinning the A-side at maximum volume. 45 RPM $10 SKU:21476

AVIATION BLONDES - Edge of Forever (POWERPOP) -Label:GET HIP A short and sweet 7-song debut CD by Pittsburgh’s new Power Pop band! COLLINS , PAUL BEAT - KIDS ARE THE SAME (NERVES / BREAKAWAYS )-Label:COLUMBIA Paul Collins Beat’s second album followed in the footsteps of his brilliant debut to rave reviews, an apathetic record company and a clueless public. Despite featuring some of his greatest songs – “The Kids are the Same,” “On The Highway,” “Dreaming,” “I Will Say No” – Columbia Records dropped the band as they toured relentlessly while “On The Highway” poured out of FM radio airwaves across the country and the newly launched MTV channel aired the videos for “The Kids Are The Same” and “On The Highway.” CD $15 SKU:22904

DEEP REDUCTION - 2 W Radio Birdman’s DENIZ TEK)Label:GET HIP Deep Reduction pays tribute to everything from delta blues to Led Zeppelin to ’70s Punk and Pop with Deniz Tek’s signature guitar mastery. Deep Reduction came to be when Radio Birdman’s Deniz Tek was asked to produce the latest Stump Wizards record, “Contains Lead.” The band and the producer hit it off well and the first Deep Reduction single, “Black Tulip” was the result. Recorded during breaks in the action, it was a spontaneous burst of energy that resulted in this follow-up full length. Sure, this record has it’s roots in Tek’s classic Radio Birdman days and the Stump Wizards mutant punk/hard rock sound, but it really is something entirely new and different and something to be reckoned with. CD $10 SKU:22325

DIRTY FUSE- ST (frenzied world of Surf, Rock 'n' Roll and Garage)Label:GREEN COOKIE The band Dirty Fuse was formed in mid 2008 by guitarist Duda Victor (Bufalos d'agua) and drummer Chris Kogios in order to explore the frenzied world of Surf, Rock 'n' Roll and Garage. Having as its key composers Duda Victor and Costas F. (bass), the music is based on a solid Dick Dale- Ventures as it unfolds with its garage concerns. CD $10 SKU:20055

DUG DUGS - ST (70s Mexica psych!) mini-LP replica jacket - Label:LION DUG DUGS A heavy, explosive album, a record which captures the fever/dream humidity of flower children running amok on a July afternoon. Essential.! CD $10 SKU:12592

FLIPPERS, LOS - PRONTO VIVEREMOS UN MUNDO MUCHO.(Columbian 60s/70s Psych)-Label:GUERSSEN One of Colombia's better known 60s & 70s groups is Los Flippers. But few people outside Colombia knows about this wonderful 1973 album they did. Its probably because it was self-released by their leader Arturo Astudillos own label rather than the bigger labels they used before, hence low sales. But in any case, its no doubt a great album that must be heard. The music on this album is quite special, as it blends psychedelia with progressive sound and soul as well. With a very good production, here we find Los Flippers at their peak of inspiration and being now a bunch of very experimented musicians. The result is much more mature than any of their previous works of course, and they really achieved a sound that ranges with any supergroup. With all original compositions except a Buddy Miles cover, they used a good dose of psychedelic effects and some tasty horns as well. As an addition, this first ever reissue comes with a killer bonus track from an earlier 45, with a killer sound reminiscent of Iron Butterfly. Remastered sound from tapes (except the bonus track), and insert with liners by Arturo Astudillo. CD $10 SKU:10036

FORD'S IMAGINARY INFERNO - Life Without Ourselves (acid pysch masters!) -Label:CLEAN Exact repro of the second CD by Dutch houseboat-psych-masters Ford's Imaginary Inferno. No less than 19 stunning tracks. CATCHY song writing in a style ranging from PSYCH-POP to ACID-FOLK, and with some truly WEIRD moments. Recommended to fans of Love, early Pink Floyd, etc. Originally released in 1997, now back due to popular demand. CD $10 SKU:16183

GONZALEZ, WALLY -Tunog Pinoy (heavy acid blues psych Pink Floyd style)Label:VICOR ENTERTAINMENT (Philippines) Just listening to the soaring solos of the third track, ‘Pinag-isa’, makes us think how much this sounds like Pink Floyd circa “Dark Side of the Moon”—atmospheric, with breathy vocals, yet thick with that mid-70’s heavy energy at the same time; then you get to ‘Rock & Roll Mama’, and it’s stinging guitar leads and crunching rhythm section all the way; Gonzalez clearly was not a one trick (heavy acid blues rock) pony, which explains why this album has always been held in such high regard among those who had a chance to hear it. CD $10 SKU:18971

GONZALEZ, WALLY -Wally on the Road 70s (heavy acid blues psych)-Label:VICOR ENTERTAINMENT (Philippines) First off, don’t be deceived by the title—this is a studio album all the way; altogether a different sort of album from “Tunog Pinoy”, thudding out of the gate with the monumental ‘Kailan Pa Kaya’, syrupy treated vocals, John Bonham-esque drumming and all; dig too, if you will, the Zeppelin vibe of ‘Screw’ before sailing into the trippy, acoustic ‘Tattong Araw’, or the legendary ‘Wally’s Blues’; more effects than the earlier record, sounding more like newfound recordings from the late 1960’s than a mid-70’s record—this has more psychedelic credentials than most reissues which get that label bestowed upon them; you might say that while “Tunog Pinoy” is classic rock in the best sense, this is classic psychedelia, in the best sense. CD $10 SKU:18972

GREEN - ST plus bonus tracks (Chicago 80s glam power pop) -Label:LION Seven bonus tracks, including the CD debut of the band’s 1984 EP "The Name of This Band is Green." Printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. "Their (first) 45 had two absolute masterpieces: ‘Gotta Getta Record Out,’ which yelps and shouts along like the best of the old Bongos or Jam or Feelies or somebody, and ‘I Don’t Want To Say No,’ which is the sort of white Motown that assholes like the Replacments could never get right. This is not a punk record, except perhaps in spirit, but it isn’t any worse for that."—Steve Albini CD $10 SKU:14882

GURVITZ , PAUL -Sweetheart Land (POWER POP Americana roots)Label:WET WORLD RECORDS (USA) The name may not instantly ring a bell, but you'll find Paul Gurvitz just about everywhere in the course of rock ‘n’ roll music history. He first found success in the British outfit the Londoners, backing band for rock ‘n’ roller Gene Vincent. He rose through the ranks playing in the Knack, and then Gun in 1967. Gun had a massive hit song ‘Race With the Devil’ and two cult albums. Paul then formed a hard rocking super-group called Three Man Army and released a string of influential albums. From there he found international success when he joined forces with former Cream and Blind Faith drummer Ginger Baker in the Baker Gurvitz Army, one of the biggest rock super-groups of the 70's. Now he's back again and fully re-loaded with his new album. "Sweetheart Land" was a long time in the making. Gurvitz spent most of the 1980's and 90's writing and producing hit songs for such artists as Jody Watley, Five Star, Staci Q, Kim Wilde, Melba Moore, Jermaine Jackson, The Fat Boys, JellyBean, and Stacy Lattisaw, among others. While many artists from Paul Gurvitz's generation tread the same ground, he has consistently kept things new. And in fact, Gurvitz's new album will surprise many fans. Not as loud and overproduced as his work from the past, Gurvitz has found a place somewhere between Americana roots rock and driving power pop with a mellow flavor, perfectly tailored for his soulful vocals and guitar playing. Paul Gurvitz is a one man army, a one man band, playing almost all of the instruments on every track—albeit with a little help from a few friends who include drummer Simon Wright (AC/DC, Dio); Jeff Silbar (writer of ‘The Wind Beneath My Wings’) on guitar; Brooke Lizotte, Stafford Floyd (Force MD's & Sister Sledge) both on piano; Adrian Lee (Mike + the Mechanics) programming and tech support. The production is punchy and showcases Gurvitz's multi-instrumental skills as a player against a cohesive wall of sound CD $10 SKU:20191

JARDINE- Look in the Window( lost jewel of late-1960's UK psych)Label:LION Jardine’s album was recorded in three glorious weeks in June 1969, at Sounds Aquarian Studios, a stone’s throw from that justifiably famous fashion hub, Carnaby Street. The sessions were fun. Polydor was supposed to release the album. Musicians dropped in to say "hello" and ended up on the record (uncredited)—among them Peter Frampton, Andrew "Andy" Bown (Herd and Status Quo), and Brian Appleyard (drummer from East of Eden). Singer Mickey Cox had been in Robert Plant’s pre-Led Zeppelin group The Band of Joy—it was Cox, in fact, who became their singer when Plant left the band. But suddenly, thanks to band management problems, the LP was shelved. Keith Law, who had written all of the songs, joined Velvett Fogg for their only album, and Jardine was forgotten. Now, forty years later, you can be among the first to discover the brooding excellence of these tracks, music both strange and sinister, with moments of fragile beauty. There are some very pretty songs here (haunting melodies abound), but there is no escaping the dark side of life (‘Masochists of Strangulation,’ ‘Execution of the Child,’ and monumental dirge ‘Blackbirds of Jardine’, which tells of self-same birds, and the fact that they will “destroy you, and leave you pain, pain, pain”), songs perhaps more akin to the band Comus than to anything else we have encountered from the psychedelic era. There are also heavy guitar solos, churning organ, flute, and flowing sitar, for good measure. A 16-page booklet includes a band history lyrics, and comments on the songs by Keith Law. A lost jewel of late-1960's UK psychedelia, from a short-lived but charismatic band! CD $10 SKU:10134

KIM JUNG MI- ST (S KOREAN 1974 w Janis Joplin cover song) Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA This 1974 album shows a different side of the delectable Korean singer’s personality, as she is called upon to front slinky mid-tempo rockers instead of the folk-inflected tracks of both the “Now” and “Wind” records; this makes for some interesting music, including a break-beat laden cover version (we think) of Janis Joplin’s “Move Over”; CD $10 SKU:20396

LA IRA DE DIOS-Empirea (Peruvian heavy psych power trio) with video -Label:RE-PSYCHLED Second release—six previously unreleased tracks recorded between 2002 to 2005—from heavy Peruvian power trio whose name translates as "The Wrath of God," a record made available by the combined efforts of three labels. New songs, one a cover version of a track by Los Saicos (Peruvian garage band from 1965), plus three alternate versions of songs from the band’s previous album "Hacia el Sol Rojo". A mix of songs which range from space rock to doom rock; powerful heavy rock chords, capped by the long, hypnotic title track. Artwork has photos from every period of the band’s existence. Includes a raw 8 minutes of video footage of the band playing the unreleased song ‘Quemando,’ in concert sometime in December 2005. A total of 55 minutes of pure heavy psych rock 'n roll!! CD $12 SKU:20204

LENO-Vida e Obra de Johnny McCartney (1971 Brazilian Cream/ STeppenwolf style SAALE!-Label:LION Leno’s “Vida e Obra de Johnny McCartney” was intended as the next musical step after Tropicália, it’s full-blooded rock and roll approach intended to link the music that had already been made to the music that would be played a few years later. This record just might have been that bold step had CBS released it in 1971. But censors banned most of the tracks, and Leno was fortunate (thanks perhaps to his string of innocent sounding Jovem Guarda number one chart hits in Brazil as half of duo Leno e Lillian) not to experience the exile or imprisonment of other artists of the time. He was also fortunate that the master tapes survived in the CBS vaults, making them available for this reissue. The album has a sound that has more to do with bands such as Sly & The Family Stone, the Beatles (post 1967), Cream, and Steppenwolf, and features contributions from music legends Marcos Valle, Raul Seixas (anarchic surrealistic icon of Brazilian counterculture), hard psych rockers A Bolha, and members of Los Shakers and Renato e Seus Blue Caps. One of the most singular records of the 1970’s rock era in Brazil, speaking in terms both historic and musical, with a significance in Brazil that makes people who know it well wonder how it has taken so long to be known worldwide, in a time when the efforts of the Brazilian rock and psychedelic underground scene are so well-documented. A 24-page booklet (packed with photos and lyrics) details Leno’s career, as well as the story behind this exceptional record. CD $8 SKU:20090

MARCUS (Rusty Evans) - Original LP and Outtakes DBL CD ( 60s psych w 32 bonus tracks and 20 PAGE BOOKLET) - Label:LION fter the release of the Freak Scene album, psychedelic guru Rusty Evans made his way from NYC to San Francisco, a geographic shift that resulted in work for the legendary San Francisco Sound label, producing bands such as It’s A Beautiful Day, Tripsichord, and Indian Puddin’ and Pipe; it also led to a drastic shift in style from the psychedelic "happening" of the Deep album for Cameo Parkway and the raga rock of the Freak Scene album for Columbia. And so it came to pass that Evans reclaimed his birth name of Marcus, and recorded a very mellow LP in 1969 for Kinetic Records, a label formed by the Kinetic Playground Ballroom in Chicago. Like much of Marcus’ work, the album is a fascinating relic of a particular time and place, in this instance San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district in the post-Summer of Love era. The Marcus LP is richly orchestrated psychedelic-folk music, with a pronounced Donovan and/or Tim Harden flavor to it, something that did not escape its creator. The mood is dreamy, the songs reflective, the voice vibrato, the album a yin to the yang of the Freak Scene "Psychedelic Psoul" album which precedes it by two years. So we have the hot and aggressive Freak Scene album contrasted—some might say perfectly balanced—by the diffuse and tranquil Marcus album two years later. To our mind, further proof of the excellence of the artistic mind behind both albums. This is the first actual re-issue of the vastly under-rated Marcus album since 1969; the only previous CD edition used alternate takes and not the album versions. Our fulsome edition indulges any completionist fantasies we might harbor, as it also serves up thirty-two bonus tracks, nearly two hours of alternate takes and acoustic demos (plus a few non-album tracks). There are guitar/voice demos recorded several months before Kinetic came along and offered a deal; other home demos have Marcus with acoustic guitar, bass and cello. There are guitar/voice demos were recorded six to eight months before Kinetic came along and offered a deal; other home demos have Marcus with acoustic guitar, bass and cello. There are also abundant demo studio versions, some of tremendous quality. The end result is (apparently) our first "interactive" release, as you can create your own ideal version of the Marcus album. Budget-priced double disc package includes a 20-page booklet, with an introduction by Marcus, his incredible history in music, as well as lyrics. Printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. CD $10 SKU:14223

EMBER POP 69-74- VA Rainy Day Mind ( 60s ) -Label:FANTASTIC VOYAGE Rainy Day Mind” is the first of two volumes surveying Ember’s pop repertoire from 1969 until the label’s demise at the end of the seventies. It comprises 21 tracks by artists ranging from obscure American singer Polly Niles to the internationally famous P J Proby, as well as ill-fated actor Alan Lake, Irish vocalist Lee Lynch, French pop star Black Swan and fuzz guitar-toting soul band Milt Matthews Inc. A clutch of projects including The Good Vibrations, The Good Ship Lollipop and Rusty Harness came to Ember courtesy of producer Mike Berry. The founding of US outlet Paramount-Ember in 1974, headed by music business veteran John Madara, brought albums by Denny Doherty (formerly of The Mamas And The Papas) and British all-girl glam rockers Mother Trucker into the fold. What these disparate sources all offer are fine performances of strong songs. Nor is there any shortage of collectables, topped by Davey Payne & The Medium Wave’s ‘A Walk In The Sunshine,’ which commands £50, and Blue Beard’s eponymous album, which only reached test pressing stage (£200), from which we have salvaged ‘Baby I Need You.’ Nice shrink-wrapped slip-case packaging COMP CD $6 SKU:16376

STRIP-O-RAMA + CD- Vol 3 (Scandalous 50s and 60s strip morsels!) Label:JUKEBOX MUSIC FACTORY Perhaps the densest (and most scandalous) compilation yet by the ever daring El Vidocq. Already a third folding album that opens to teasingly reveal more sumptuous "strip music" morsels. Indeed, the 1950s and '60s represent an inexhaustible source of delicious tunes, most of which just never hit it off with the media or masses. Once again, our indefatigable connoisseur raises the curtain on an arousing series of smooth tunes, with their languid rhythms, well-rounded melodies and cheeky grooves. An exciting mix of styles struts its stuff in various states of undress: rockabilly (Rusty & Doug Kershaw, Clyde Stacy), pop (Betty Reilly, Ella Johnson), crooner (Louis Jordan), rock (Chuck Miller), swing jazz (Joanie Sommers), burlesque (The Ramcocks), r'n'b (Gino Parks)... An eminently naughty selection of musical gems to peel off one by one. COMP LP $19 SKU:20715

WARFARING STRANGERS-:ACID NIGHTMARES-PURPLE VINYL GATEFOLD DOUBLE Label:NUMERO UNO On neon purple vinyl. As the hippie movement hurtled towards its imminent demise, bad vibes infiltrated the rock world. Tainted LSD, loud motorcycles, and a series of brutal deaths spawned inspiration for guitar-wielding teenagers across the globe. Implementing deafening fuzz and satanic screams to create their proto-metal monstrosities, short-lived stoner bands pressed their lysergic experiments in microscopic quantities before blacking out entirely. Lifted from the ashes of the acid rock hell fire are 18 distorted tales of dope fiends, pill poppers, and the baddest of trips. This deluxe 2LP comes housed in a blacklight poster-style jacket illustrated by Benjamin Marra, replete with flocking and lysergic neon. 24 pages documenting the creeping existential dread of the hard rock underground are tucked into the gatefold pocket alongside two dead dinosaur-heavy LPs. HEAT EXCHANGE- Reminiscence(70S HARD ROCK/PSYCH) Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) "Formed in Toronto, Canada, in the late 60s, Heat Exchange are known for their three fantastic 45s for the Yorkville label - released in the early 70s - on which they mixed hard rock with psychedelic, heavy progressive andfunk-rock sounds. So it was a major surprise to discover that in 1972, the band recorded more stuff with the intention of releasing an album. But in the end, the deal fell through and only four of those tracks were released as part of their 45s. Soon after, the band disbanded. Luckily, the band members have kept a copy of the master tape all these years. So, here’s for the first time ever the complete Heat Exchange studio recordings, including their three 45s plus the previously unreleased recordings they did for their never released LP in 1972. Fabulous UK sounding heavy progressive and psychedelic hard rock. JOHN THE REVELATOR- WILD BLUES (70s Dutch blues) Label:PSEUDONYM Back in 1970 the Dutch blues band John The Revelator won the prestigious Loosdrecht Jazz Concours. Record label Decca immediately offered them a recording contract, which resulted in the release of the legendary album 'Wild Blues'. It was recorded at the Phonogram studio with producer Tony Vos, who had a great track record with bands like Cuby + Blizzards, Ekseption and the Oscar Benton Blues Band. At that time John The Revelator had grown into a seven-piece band. They had just two days to record the album and one evening to mix it. Most tracks were done in two or three takes, with a bare minimum of overdubs: just vocals and horns. 'Wild Blues' has since become a highly sought-after collectors item. This deluxe 180-gram audiophile vinyl LP set presents the original album in its entirety, plus two extra songs: the instrumental 'Yeah' and the (in 1971) recorded B-side of a never released single, 'One Track Mind', all dynamically mastered from the original tapes. The gatefold sleeve features restored cover art, along with rare archival photos and liner notes. John the Revelator is still alive and kicking and has been on the road now for 45 years. They play all over Europe and toured Australia. MEDIA- BRIGHT NEW FUTURE (YELLOW) (1978 UK punk style) Label:LOVE CHILD The Media were a Portsmouth band formed in 1978, influenced by the UK punk explosion of 1977. The Media played loads of shows, honed their '60s beat meets '70s street/seminal suburban songs, got a bit good, built a large following, released two singles and by 1980 were featured in a youth TV series called 'Going Out'. What could possibly go wrong? Their debut EP 'No Darling I Love The Media' appeared in 1978 on their own Tearaway Records (Cherry Red Records distributed it). A second single, 'Southcoast City Rockers' and 'Back On The Beach' came out the following year on the Portsmouth collective Brain Booster Records. The single showed the band moving on musically, taking in elements of the UK's emerging ska scene (led by The Specials' Two Tone label) and the Mod revival inspired by The Jam. On the back of the money they were paid for the 'Going Out' TV series, the band went in the studio with the aim of recording songs for an album - 9 songs were completed. But, trouble at one of their support slots led to the cancellation of a series of gigs, including a prominent London show, and the band split in 1981. Fast forward 37 years and the master tapes from that album session were found by a band member in their loft. On the advice of Acid Attack's Dave Clarke the tape is sent to Paul Orwell at Love Child Records, who in turn played it to Adam Cooper of parent company Heavy Soul Records, both of these uber music fans gave it a massive thumbs up. So now 40 years after release of first Media EP the album 'Bright New Future' is now available LP $26 SKU:23200
