WILSON, BLIND OWL-ST ( Canned Heat -psych blues )Label:MISSISSIPPI/SUT Second press. Blind Owl Wilson was a truly great guitarist and vocalist whose deep well of psychedelic blues songs were buried amongst the catalog of major label rockin' blues band Canned Heat. Blind Owl served as Canned Heat's guitarist and would chip in a song here and there as a front man. A couple of those songs became huge hits in the '60s - 'Going Up The Country' and 'On The Road Again'. Blind Owl's songs for Canned Heat stood in stark contrast to the bands blustery blues rock - his was a gentle and nuanced voice and the themes of his song were all about personal heartbreak, grasping for cosmic understanding, and ecological justice. Here we have an LP of Blind Owl's songs from Canned Heat's records - left to sit alone and take you somewhere unexpected. Blind Owl's personal vision quest can be heard throughout these songs. 'Poor Moon' tells the tale
of Alan's heartbreak as he watches the moon being misguidedly bombed by man, 'My Time Ain't Long' confronts death, 'Parthenogen In 3 Blind Owls' and 'Parthenogen Childs End' take you to the psychedelic limits, and oh yes, we have the hit tunes on here too. Co-release with Sutro Park records.A true psychedelic masterpiece! Black vinyl LP in black and white jacket with miniature two color booklet. Limited second pressing! LP $25 SKU:25048

TINTERN ABBEY- BEESIDE: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS (2CD) unreleased Brit psychLabel:GRAPEFRUIT The greatest, most important cache of unreleased vintage British psychedelia to have surfaced for decades, 'Beeside: The Complete Recordings' gathers together everything ever recorded by the iconic Tintern Abbey. A legendary name from the British psychedelic scene, Tintern Abbey's enduring reputation rests on one of the definitive forty-fives to emerge from the genre, the November 1967 coupling of 'Beeside' backed with 'Vacuum Cleaner' which originally appeared on Deram. Since its release, just a small handful of skeletal demo recordings have trickled out, all of which were essentially minor addenda to the band's little-documented but legendary career. Now, Grapefruit has finally unearthed the full, definitive story. After two decades of planning, research, tape transfer and sound restoration, 'Beeside: The Complete Recordings' features over two hours of music recorded by Tintern Abbey between the summer of 1967 (when they spent a month in a Cornwall cottage, rehearsing and taping their performances prior to their London launch) and the end of 1968. Featuring more than 90 minutes of previously unreleased and unheard material, indeed, everything on the 68-minute disc two is now receiving its first-ever public airing. Alongside that genre-defining Deram single and those previously-leaked demos are some astonishing treasures. Included are two finished masters of the intended late 1967 follow-up 45 'Snowman' (a disorientating melange of sinister Mellotron, disembodied voices and backward tapes that was abandoned when original guitarist Don Smith left the group); the Arabic-sounding 'My Prayer' and the 'SF Sorrow'- anticipating 'Let The Wind Blow', along with late 1968 creations like 'Raspberry Ripple', 'Life Goes By' and 'My House' suggesting that, even at the point of their collapse, Tintern Abbey remained a vital, vibrant unit. Featuring a 6000 word essay with band quotes and previously unpublished photos and memorabilia, this lovingly-assembled 2CD set is the final word on a group that turned out to be as mysterious and elusive as the Wordsworth poem that inspired their name. CD $24 SKU:24829

WELDERS- OUR OWN ODDITIES 1977-81 (all-female punk pop )Label:BACHELOR The Welders were an all-female punk pop band from St. Louis, MO. Formed by four young, teenage women in 1975; they started playing shows in 1976, in one of the toughest climates to get booked for bands playing original material. The Welders bonded over their love of The Monkees, The Beatles and early glam rock. The comedy of the National Lampoon Radio Hour and the Marx Brothers were just as big of an influence. The Welders played several shows in the St. Louis metro area and eventually caught the attention of a local photographer and newspaper owner. He financed a recording session in 1979, with plans to release a four song EP. The newspaper folded before the release could happen, and all that survived was a cassette copy of the recordings. The Welders continued for a couple more years after recording the EP. They had brief line up changes, and added an organ which shifted their sound more towards a '60s garage pop sound. They were ahead of their time again, pre-dating most of the neo-garage explosion of the '80s. By 1981, the band had moved on to other interests. In 2010 BDR Records (a sub-label of Rerun, designated for St. Louis area artists) issued that previously unreleased EP. The EP was well received worldwide and has been sold out for several years. This collection includes a newly remastered and improved version of the 1979 EP tracks, along with other studio, rehearsal and live recordings. The fold-out digipack is filled with amazing photos of the band. LP $24 SKU:24971
