NEW ARRIVALS

BEYOND THE CALICO WALL V/A LAST PRESSING of classic 60s psych on VOXX We thought this one was out of print, but found a few jackets at the pressing plan!
Excellent acid-punk sampler put together by New England collector Erik L. Issued fairly late in the game but recycling lots of weird psych numbers for the first time. A few tracks fall into the pointless-noise/novelty category but overall this was one of the best comps of the early 90s. All of the pieces are unbridled master strokes of the proto-punk D.I.Y. mentality married to the equally inspired garage rock psych of the mid- to late '60s. In a significant nod to collectors, none of these sides can be found on run-of-the-mill "best-of" anthologies, and there are only a mere handful that are available in any other incarnation. The material ranges from highly infectious pop melodies such as Duffy's spry rocker "Come Back Come Back" or the speed-fueled madness of the Waterproof Tinkertoy's trippy "Continuation." There are also a fair amount of indescribably acidic and downright far-out cuts, including the repetitive "Suzie's Gone" by the Afterglow and the rambling of Ceylib People's "Changes." In addition to the plethora of unearthed gems, Beyond the Calico Wall features a few familiar titles -- such as the faithfully extended 11-plus minute reworking of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" from 6 Feet Under as well as Rasputin & the Mad Monks' jet-propelled rendering of "I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)." Bhagavad Gita includes a mid-tempo distortion-driven electric guitar wailer titled "Long Hair Soulful," which was co-written by Chuck Mangione -- who included his version on his Eyes of the Veiled Temptress (1988). It is unknown if the famed jazz flügelhorn player was once a member of this Ohio-based band. COMP LP $15 SKU:2152

MACARTHUR - ST (1979 U.S basement psych-prog monster)Label:OUT SIDER U.S. basement psych-prog monster released in 1979 as an ultra-rare private pressing of 200 copies. MacArthur were formed when a young guitar player and songwriter named Ben MacArthur met a 17-year old prodigy musician called Bill Heffelfinger in Saginaw, Michigan, in 1978. Bill was not only a gifted guitar player but also a genius arranger and keyboard wizard. When Ben showed him some of the stuff he had written, Bill took the songs and transformed them into classic pieces of music. They soon recruited Jeff Bauer on bass and Scott Stockford on drums. The chemistry of MacArthur was born. The first MacArthur album, known in collector's circles as The Black Forest due to the vinyl bootleg of the same title released in the '80s, was recorded in 1979 using a four-track machine. Produced by Bill Heffelfinger, MacArthur is a progressive/psychedelic concept album highlighted by devastating, ripping fuzz guitar solos and Mini-Moog/synths attacks. CD $17 SKU:17694

HASHISH -A Product of Hashish- LTD ED OF 499 PSYCH -Label:SUBLIMINAL SOUNDS (SWEDEN) LP version in deluxe silver foil sleeve. Limited edition of 499. Includes poster. The long-awaited debut album from Hashish. Top-class psychedelia, taking the genre to a new level with a sophisticated approach to Afro-funk grooves accompanied by dreamy, playful melodies that range through a spectrum of Scandinavian occult psychedelia, minimal synth, surreal electronic soul disco, and rare groove. Some have described Hashish as a project that picks up what Goat started. Welcome to tomorrow. The sounds transport the listener into a forgotten world where the future looks different from what it became. On his soft, subtle island capped with clouds of cool fire, Pan weaves his teachings with the wind and the sun, raining sacred melodies on the hearts and minds of humanity and bestowing desperate loves and yearnings with songs of sainthood and madness. Transient temples of the flesh, laughing at death, clothe our lives in fire. On rippling altars of skin we sensual magicians worship bright burning desire. Upon release the album sky rocketed straight into #1 on the official Swedish vinyl chart. LP $26 SKU:17696

SAND- His First Steps (1977 PSYCH GENIUS)Label:ROTORELIEF (FRANCE) Red & green-colored vinyl version. Limited edition of 777 copies. Previously unreleased album by German trio Sand, recorded in 1972. His First Steps is a forerunner of Golem (ROTOR 006CD/LP/BLU-LP/PIC-LP), the legendary 1974 album from the cosmic and psychedelic genius that is Sand. After the split of P.O.T., the early Sand submerged as a threesome in the basement of Claudiusstrasse and built up an alchemical assembling shop, where they resurrected the archetypical Golem. Sand considered themselves as an exile community in a fascinating area -- full of distinctly bizarre energy. Cover painting by Babs Santini, 2009. LP $28 SKU:17695

With so many styles and so much diversity that makes the Witches sound it is genuinely hard to pinpoint what they sound like or to compare them to other bands is very difficult. They are genuinely unique and never boring the album has many dynamic, fast punk songs, slower paced psychedelic sounds, acoustic medleys and many different vocal ranges as well each song is completely different.

ABSTRACTS - Hey Let’s Go Now ( 60s Brit invasion style ) SALE - Label:BREAKAWAY They were one of the first bands to utilize a light show and besides their sole 45, their legacy contains a cache of unreleased period recordings, some of them made for Columbia Records in 1964. Finally, over four decades later, this album collects the band’s entire studio material alongside two excellent sounding 1966 live tracks. An in-depth insert with a wealth of never-before-seen-photos traces the history of the band that brought “Abstractmania” to the New York area in the sixties. It’s a pleasure for Break-A-Way Records to celebrate the return of The Abstracts and hear them shout again, “Hey, Let´s Go Now”… TRACKLISTINGS ON SITE LP $14 SKU:13551

GENERATION XLive At Sheffield (1978 recordings) Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) First vinyl release of this live show from December 1978, featuring mainly tracks from Generation X's first two albums and displaying all the angst and attitude of one of the original UK punk bands. 180-gram LP. "It is hard to realize that on December 10th, 2016, it will be 40 years since Generation X first took to the stage. I was the guitarist and Live At Sheffield is a recording from a later show in 1978, but still has the angst and rock'n'roll spirit that Generation X were known for. Always slightly apart from the initial punk movement with the good looks and fantastic playing, Generation X relished the live shows but up to the end of 1979, when I left the band, had only done a few tours of the United Kingdom, a couple of dates in Paris and a week in Japan. So the amount of people who actually saw Generation X live is pretty limited. Live At Sheffield gives you a chance to enjoy the sound of a Generation X gig (along with fake audience) and feel the power of what we did live. The songs are from the first two albums plus a strange medley of '100 Punks' and 'Kleenex' and the cover of 'Shakin' All Over'. Although the band only lasted three years, the music stands the test of time, and with Billy Idol's later success as a solo artist in America this recording has somewhat of an historical aspect. Billy continues to play quite a few of these songs live to this day and it may be interesting to compare, although comparisons are deadly. . . . At the time of this show Generation X had been on Top Of The Pops numerous times, but this was punk and nobody thought about anything but the moment. Playing live every night in a different town has a certain momentum, and like a great photograph, to capture a moment in time of rock'n'roll is just as visual. Play this loud, as Mark Twain once said about Wagner's music, 'It's better than it sounds'." --Bob "Derwood" Andrews LP $24 SKU:17599

GENERATION X-Sweet Revenge- (1979 recordings ) Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) The third LP by Generation X's original line-up, recorded in 1979 and unreleased until 1998. An essential piece in the discography of one of the original UK punk bands. 180-gram LP. "In early 1979 Generation X went to the English countryside to write and 'routine' the band's third album. We felt we had a new sound, simple songs delivered with more space than most rock'n'roll, so we went into Olympic Studios in Barnes, London and began recording with the house engineer, Doug Bennett, as co-producer. Most of the songs were recorded before our tour of Japan in June '79. On our return Billy came into the studio with an outline of a song called 'Dancing With Myself'. We went to work on it and pretty much finished it quickly and we felt it was the song to lead the album, a single I guess. . . . Then I left the band at the end of the year and carried the fuckin' stack of 1/4'' master tapes around the world for many years. A year or so later they changed the band name to Gen X and re-recorded four or five songs for the album Kiss Me Deadly. Billy later released the re-recorded version of 'Dancing With Myself' for his solo career in America and the rest is history. . . . After years in storage my tapes were nearing the end of their life, so I digitized them in order to save this lost treasure. I named the album KMD Sweet Revenge. Some time later the album was released in Germany, Japan, Spain and supposedly the USA, however the release in America was quashed until Capitol Records put out their own version within a 3-CD anthology of the band, using some different mixes of the songs from cassette tapes. The recordings are almost complete minus a few guitar solos and final mixes. Time on Generation X had run out, but this album clearly shows the direction the band were heading and is worth documenting and certainly worth playing. For your pleasure . . . Sweet Revenge." --Bob "Derwood" Andrews LP $24 SKU:17600

MOTT THE HOOPLE - All The Young Dudes - RED VINYL LTD (70s gram ) -Label:DRASTIC PLASTIC Best known for the song “All the Young Dudes” (written for the band by David Bowie), Mott the Hoople scored with their 1972 album of the same name. With a foundation in R&B, they became quite popular in the ’70s glam scene.Their fifth studio album, All the Young Dudes, is considered a pivotal moment in the band’s career. Though Mott the Hoople was heading toward a breakup at the time, Bowie penned the album’s titular song and produced the record, making Mott the Hoople relevant again in the glam rock era. LP $29 SKU:16209

PURE HELL-Noise Addiction (1978 recordings)-Label:BEAT GENERATION (Spain) Beat Generation presents a reissue of Pure Hell sole full-length album, recorded in 1978 but not released until 2006. In 1974, on the streets of Philadelphia, a band unlike any other was formed. They called themselves Pretty Poison. They had a sound so ahead of its time that the music industry was not yet ready for it. They coupled the punk sound of the New York bands of the time with a harder, faster heavy metal edge unheard before. Their unique sound was a result of Kenny Gordon's berserk choreography and Preston Morris's needling guitar riffs, while Steel and Spider added synchronized barrage with no nonsense execution to the arsenal. Inspired by the famous fuel-altered dragster, they changed their name to Pure Hell in 1975. Soon after, they moved to New York City where they played with bands like the New York Dolls, Sid Vicious, Wayne County and the Electric Chairs, The Dead Boys, The Stimulators, Richard Hell,The Germs, The Nuns, The Cramps and more. In 1978 Pure Hell headlined a tour of the UK, with bands like the UK Subs, Wilko Johnson, Vermilion & the Aces and more opening for them. While in the UK, their only original record was released. It was a single released by their manager Curtis Knight on his label, Golden Sphinx Records. The songs on the single were "These Boots Were Made for Walking" and "No Rules." The single charted in the top 40 charts in the UK. During the same year, a full length album was recorded but was never released. It did not surface again for 28 years. Limited edition of 500 copies. LP $24 SKU:17451

RELATIVELY CLEAN RIVERS- ST ( 70s West Coast rural rock ) 180 gram 2014 repress SAALE -Label:PHOENIX RECORDS (UK) 2016 repress; LP version. Former Beat Of The Earth leader Phil Pearlman assembled Relatively Clean Rivers in the early '70s and eventually released this excellent rural rock album in 1975. Although Pearlman's first recorded effort was a surf/hot rod 45 entitled Chrome Reversed Rails which appeared on the Fink label in the mid-'60s, it was with Beat Of The Earth that he began to forge a distinctive musical voice. The band was one of the earliest-known experimental bands with a sound reminiscent of their East Coast counterparts, The Velvet Underground, whose influence is often discernible on Relatively Clean Rivers. That said, RCR is recognized by those fortunate enough to have heard it as one of the very finest albums of the era, with a clearly-defined American sound akin to The Grateful Dead in all their American Beauty pomp or CSNY circa Déjà Vu. An album highly recommended to anyone even remotely interested in '70s West Coast music or simply great music in general. Finally available on 180 gram vinyl once again, and comprehensively remastered using the latest 48-bit technology.
180 gram vinyl LP reissue of this all-time U.S. underground classic, originally released in 1976.
- Formed by Phil Pearlman, who led seminal experimental band Beat Of The Earth.
- "All California sunsets and country living clean, you can feel the wind in this album, in the melodies and in the guitar lines. This is Grateful Dead-esque music for people who hate the Grateful Dead (and also those who love 'em)." --Other Music LP $25 SKU:7931

STORMTROOPER - Im A Mess- 70s punk ) (SAALE )-Label:RAVE UP Stormtrooper formed and disbanded in a fury in 1975 before punk rock arose out of the ashes of glam and pub rock! Their debut single "I'm A Mess" was described by the British music press as "the sound of a commuter being shoved under a tube train in the rush hour, one for howling at the moon and a tale of drunkenness in the wild of Soho" The band formed at the bar in the Marquee Club by British front man Nigel Hutchings and bassist Jeff Piccinini who recruited John Pilka on guitar and Mike Lee on drums. They recorded a demo of 4 songs in August of 1975 and then signed with Corruption Management on the Portobello Road for a couple of pints and some distant promises. The band played only one gig at the Bath Pavilion, then split-up. This, ladies and gentleman, was before the birth of punk rock and the tracks of this anthology are pure "punk" before... punk!!!!
