MONOCLES/THE HIGHER ELEVATION - The Spider,The Fly and the Boogieman (rare 60s psych)-Label:OUT-SIDER This essential LP includes an insert with detailed liner notes and rare photos. Most people were introduced to the bizarre psychedelic sound of The Monocles (later The Higher Elevation) thanks to the inclusion of the bizarre 'The Spider & The Fly' and 'The Diamond Mine' on the legendary 3rd volume of'Pebbles' Vol. 3 (the "acid-punk" volume). These youngsters from Colorado formed in 1964 and they were famous for driving to gigs in a custom Cadillac hearse. Between 1965 and 1968, they released a bunch of singles for labels s.a. Chicory, Denco, Liberty. This retrospective collection includes the best of their 45 sides, plus some tracks that are previously unreleased on vinyl. MOTHS- ST ( UK underground hippie acid-folk 1970) -Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS (SPAIN) UK underground hippie acid-folk from 1970, originally released as a micro-pressing of less than 30 copies on the collectable Deroy custom label. Mellow atmosphere with acoustic guitars, flute, bongos, bass and refreshing, sincere vocals. A few self-penned tracks plus some amazing & haunting covers of people like Incredible String Band, David Ackles, Dylan, Tim Buckley, Bert Jansch. Rated with the maximum rarity on Hans Pokora’s “3001 Record Collecting Dreams”. Remastered sound, insert with liner notes and photos. New cover design (the original album came in a plain white sleeve). “…Enchanting atmosphere and fragrant mellow vibes. Soft vocals, vivid earthy use of bongoes, and haunting flutes possess the LP in its entirety. The vocals throughout are subdued, laid-back beyond mellow...folk lost in a sleepy haze, for the beach on a warm summer's night...comforting diffused light hazily pulls the listener into dreamscapes where flutes softly cut swathes through mists with doleful but captivating sounds, crystalline clarity of sound...One of the rarest, obscurest UK releases” – Stephen Smith (Progressive Music) LP $27 SKU:16280
PROMISE- ST ( 80s Beatlesque power pop ala Badfinger, Big Star, early Cheap Trick, Emitt Rhodes, The Raspberries, Liverpool Echo, The Scruffs, Shoes, Dwight Twilley Band, etc. ) w liners -Label:GOT KINDA LOST RECORDS (SPAIN) First reissue of the privately pressed 1980 self-titled debut by Colorado power pop band Promise. "An exciting, terrific British Invasion-styled guitar pop album full of catchy, memorable hooks, displaying a tougher, 'rock' edge than most of its ilk and some excellent softer songs. Equally recommended to power pop and '60s rock fans." --Aaron Milenski, The Acid Archives If you're continuously searching the margins for lost artifacts of the pop pantheon, you can find your daily dose in late period exponents of pure, lean, Beatlesque power pop band Promise. Originally issued in 1980 on the Boulder, Colorado, area band's own Cumulus label, their eponymous debut is filled with melodic, beatific blasts of pure pop, replete with ringing, jangly guitars and rollicking crunch. Co-led by singer-songwriters and guitarists Curt Mangan and Danny Mey -- with aid provided by the just-right rhythms of bassist Randy Jones and drummer Gary York -- the group created an album with precious little allying it to the punk-inspired power pop or prescient new wave of the time, instead choosing to hone in on a classicist pop sound highly indebted to those famous moptops from Liverpool. Abetted by the fact that some of the group's members had been playing together since their teenage combos of the mid '60s, the album carries an out-of-time flair across surging rockers and mournful balladry. Got Kinda Lost Records is ecstatic to give this benchmark of privately pressed power pop another chance to shine with this first ever reissue. Includes exhaustive liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Ugly Things Magazine) culled from interviews with Mangan and Mey. RIYL: Badfinger, Big Star, early Cheap Trick, Emitt Rhodes, The Raspberries, Liverpool Echo, The Scruffs, Shoes, Dwight Twilley Band, etc. CD $18 SKU:16561

RAINBOW PRESS- There's a War On (68 psych insert with liners ) -Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) Out-Sider presents the first legit reissue of There's a War On by The Rainbow Press, a cool US '68 psychedelic concept album with all the right moves: solid songwriting, refreshing harmonies, studio effects, organ, fuzz guitar, electric piano, sunshine/baroque touches -- think The Rainy Daze, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Doors. The Rainbow Press evolved from The Continental Divide, a college band from New York containing members from two previous British invasion groups: The Group and The Specs. They were Bill Yergin on drums, Dave Troup on bass, Larry Milton on electric piano and 12-string guitar, Marc Ellis on guitar, Charlie Osborne on organ, and Joe Groff on vocals. All the members sang vocal harmonies and the twin electric piano/organ action gave the band an unusual and cool sound. In 1968, Audio Fidelity approached them and a contract was secured. The band changed their name to the more groovy-sounding The Rainbow Press and sessions for their first album started at Radio City in New York. There's a War On saw the light in 1968 on the Mr. G label (the "hip" branch of Audio Fidelity). It's hard to believe this perfectly recorded psychedelic beauty was made by college students! Remastered sound; includes insert with liner notes telling the band's story for the first time. LP $30 SKU:16564
RAUNCH - Total Raunch ( classic '60s garagepunk. )- -Label:BREAK A WAY The Raunch from Ossining, N.Y. were one of the countless mid-'60s groups born into a healthy local garage scene, living the classic story of local bands for two years and then almost forgotten for the last five decades. In the short time of their existence, the Raunch released a legendary 7-inch, made it with one track onto the collectable "Battle Of The Bands" LP on the regionally active Ren-Vell Label and in 1967 recorded another until now unreleased pair of tracks. Both sides of their sole single on Bazaar Records, are good examples of classic '60s garagepunk. 'A Little While Back' is a crude heavy fuzz punker with a blistering guitar solo perfectly backed with 'I Say You're Wrong', a tough n moody song with the classic garage girl-treats-boy-bad lyrics on the flip. While both sides of the 7-inch were group originals written by Sandy Katz, their LP contribution for Ren-Vell was a cover of Paul Revere & The Raiders' 'Hungry', played by the group in their unique "raunchy style" of course. Even more unique is the treatment the boys gave to their unreleased recordings of 'Hey Joe' and 'Tobacco Road'. Again recorded at Ren-Vell in 1967, both covers are unbelievable ultra heavy fuzz killers with a wild brand of slashing and uncompromising guitar playing. Despite losing several battle of the bands contests, their ultimate victory comes in the shape of this one-sided Break-A-Way release. Five tracks with enough excitement and power for two LP sides, all of which are '60s savage garage punk and, once heard, unforgettable. LP $19 SKU:16485

ALGO SALVAJE - Untamed 60's Beat and Garage Nuggets from Spain Vol. 1 DBL LP -Label:MUNSTER Double LP version. Internationally labeled as "nuggets" (after the original compilation of the same name concocted by Jac Holzman and Lenny Kaye in 1972 for the Elektra label), the more common garage rock label has been used to place and describe one of the most fertile chapters of rock & roll history during its most creative years. An underground story which has luckily become known, with participants from all around the globe, which included anonymous musicians, independent record labels with impossible names, and ridiculously limited pressings, often not more than a few hundred copies. Much more important and influential than its level of exposure would suggest, this nuggets-type of music was insolent, proud and self-taught. The trigger of the phenomenon was, without a doubt, the concluding British Invasion to the U.S., which started in 1964: that collective youthful glare provoked by an unprecedented music event in which a number of English bands took up American music and regenerated it in their own personal way. All of them managed to open a big crack in the comfortable status of early '60s rock through which garage rock, in an incredible game of fascination and rage, started to pour freely. This new music, drawing from beat, rhythm & blues and the new psychedelic nuances that already flew over the rock scene, emerged gloriously as a coarse creature. Question Mark, The 13th Floor Elevators, The Remains, The Chocolate Watchband, Electric Prunes, The Seeds, The Standells, Kenny & The Casuals, The Sonics, Music Machine -- and hundreds more bands. They led the American answer to the British bands and they all reached truly fantastic heights, although any list of great names will be insufficient and unfair. Dazzled by that blinding light, thousands of bands appeared from all over the world, including Spain, of course. Few of the expected obstacles derived from the political and social situation in Spain under Franco seemed to matter to these bands. At their own pace and in their own way, and almost at the same time that it was happening on the other side of the Atlantic, the Spanish nuggets got into action and moved from the village music band to the yeh-yeh group. The cleverest teenagers noticed that there was something new in the air, and realized that such intoxicating music enabled them to display attitudes and words which didn't have any other way out in that anomalous society. The breeding ground was usually small labels and sometimes, not often, the bigger imprints would dare take a chance. In both cases, the nuggets-type tracks were always on the B-side of singles and EPs. It's worth it to note the unusual case of Los Brincos and their Beatlesque and thunderous debut "Dance the Pulga," a visionary piece which started the genre in 1964 with all the honors, and whose second 7", Flamenco, introduced one of the key contributions of Spanish garage: noisy approximations or versions of copla and flamenco songs. It was an obligatory and respectable settling of scores with genres of music that were tied to the past and to a model of authoritarian family whose foundations were starting to crack. And although the dotted map of the most prolific areas points towards the tourist sites of the Mediterranean coast, it was actually a global phenomenon which took place in any part of Spain. Coming, most of them, from a middle class background which was starting to consolidate, Spanish teenagers from the '60s employed the same musical models as their foreign colleagues, but their contribution was not only exemplary in many cases, but also specifically genuine. These Spanish Nuggets, an eternal unfinished business of our musical heritage waiting to be reissued, are finally celebrated here on this first volume of Algo Salvaje. Includes extensive notes by Vicente Fabuel, featuring all the original record sleeves and artist photos. COMP LP $29 SKU:16187
BLOPS- ST ( 1970s highly sought after killer South American psych/progressive rarity -180 gram ltd to 300 )-Label:ACME First official reissue of this early 1970s highly sought after killer South American psych/progressive rarity under licence from Arci in Chile! Pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Shrink-rapped. Limited edition of just 300 copies. The monumental fiasco Los Blops experienced at the Vine Festival of 1972 gave rise to an abrupt reaction on behalf of the group. It was something like "if they do not want subtle songs, poetic and loving, then try this: ‘Locomotive.’ The group even momentarily changed their name to Paraffin. The acoustic guitars were still there, at least for the performances, but now with an openness for the electric and the progressive thing. Julio Villalobos had already left the group by this time, and he was replaced by the classic pianist Juan Vile Carlos, who made a significant contribution in keyboards. With this, Los Blops, after an anarchical stage of pure improvisation, returned now to another serious tryout—in the 'Manchufelá de Peñalolén'(?), this time with a more aggressive, progressive, quite unclassifiable style which once again was absolutely pioneering for Chile. Under the name of Paraffin, they returned to the public in February of 1973, and performed at the mythical festival Los Caminos que se Abren (Ways being opened), next to Los Jaivas and the El Polen from Peru, and other groups. The delivery of Paraffin/Los Blops was total, overwhelming, and left a memory difficult to erase, for many until today. The group played only seven tracks, among them five of them were recorded on the album. LP $24 SKU:13525
CARGO - Front Side, Back Side ( Canadian 60s psych , One bonus track. * two-page LP-sized insert with short bio, photos and lyrics 180 gram -Label:PSEUDONYM This is the first ever reissue. Toronto, Canada based psychedelic quartet began as the Prophets in the mid-60's. Then they renamed The City Suite and finally came the Cargo name. As Cargo they released two LPs and two 7" singles before they split up in 1971. Dreamy psychrock with some mild-jazzy atmospheric improvisations and a couple of spoken mayhem freak-out passages coming between the tracks. Very rare LP, originally released in 1969 on the Merv Buchanan's Trend label, also responsible for the Bent Wind LP. Original basement recording was not a hi-fi one (think of the Bent Wind LP) but also was impossible for Merv to locate the original master-tapes. This reissue has been remastered from two unearthed vinyl copies, so forgive us for any sound imperfections although we spend many months in the studio. Nevertheless this is so rare and this reissue would be a keeper for sure. We have boosted the reissue with one extra track from their first (also on Trend) single. Licensed by Buchanan and made with the help of the original Cargo members. Includes: * Fully laminated cover. * One bonus track. * two-page LP-sized insert with short bio, photos and lyrics. CITY BLUES - Blues For Lawrence Street ( Ultra-rare private garage blues 67 )-Label:VOID RECORDS (USA Ultra-rare private garage blues LP from the Los Angeles area (released on Nouveau Records in 1967); reminds many of early Quicksilver Messenger Service, specifically the 1966 pre-Cipollina lineup as heard on the Groucho releases. Trebly guitars, wailing harmonica, etc. One of the rarest California private LPs with originals virtually non-existent and fetching large sums. Limited to 500 copies." As Bob Lescher recalled, "I got mad at Dick and threw a harmonica at him. My patience was pretty short in those days. Lucky that he ducked. It left a hole in the acoustics on the wall of the studio. The final track, 'Smokestack Lightning,' is about twelve minutes long with all sorts of noddling going on. It was our take on Butterfield's East-West." LP $19 SKU:16353

GROUP 1850- Agemo’s Trip To Mother Earth ( 60s psych masterpiece on 180 gram w 3d cover and glasses! ) Label:MISSING VINYL (Greece) First ever audiophile edition, taken from the original vinyl masters for this psychedelic masterwork, originally released on Philips in 1968. Official, deluxe 180g vinyl pressing from the original analogue masters, exact reproduction of the original 3D cover (3D glasses included). Audiophile edition pressed by Music On Vinyl Records (Netherlands)." There is little doubt that "Agemo's Trip to Mother Earth" is cut from the same cloth as Pink Floyd's "Saucerful of Secrets.” In retrospect, Group 1850's work is more imaginative—which one may expect from a Continental band without any commercial restraints. There are many pure psychedelic moments to be had - but just hearing the title track (technically titled 'I Put My Hands on Your Shoulder') should inspire awe who in people for whom this classic of psychedelia is a new discovery. The fuzz guitar, the trippy voices, the acid induced phased effects, and the drumming—there just flat out wasn't anything else like this in 1968. It's a true masterpiece of psychedelic music. MIJ - YODELING ASTROLOGER ( 68 HIPPIE PSYCH ) -Label:JACKPOT RECORDS (USA) An album which “could be considered an anomaly, a one-off or a miracle of circumstance in the history of psychedelic pop music. Mij, a.k.a. Jim Holmberg was discovered by ESP owners while playing in Washington Square Park in the summer of 1968. His style and persona mesmerized the label heads, and he explained to them a recent auto accident had fractured his skull but left him changed. He perceived sound, color and vision differently and he had funneled this new world of perception directly into his music. All this was enough to warrant getting Mij into the studio to lay down a record of his rambly, cosmic folk songs. The entire album was recorded in three hours, first-takes and impromptu production intact, then pressed up and introduced to the world shortly thereafter. To focus on the yodeling aspect of the Yodeling Astrologer would miss some of the depth of this album. Not just a hippie novelty act of the time, this is a truly thoughtful and somewhat frenzied document. Like Buffy St. Marie’s “Meditations”, Linda Perhacs’ “Parallelograms” or “Cold Fact” by Rodriguez, this is an album of sincere folk songs colored with subtle psychedelic touches. Uneasy reverberations and soft echoes glide over Holmberg’s breezy songs, creating a consistent sonic environment as spontaneous as it is intriguing. Available on vinyl for the first time since an incredibly limited original pressing in 1969 on ESP Disk. Sales Points: • Remastered from the original master tapes; • First ever reissue since original pressing in 1969; • Limited Edition Vinyl Pressing. • Audiophile vinyl press at RTI. • Sturdy old-style tip on jackeT LP $16 SKU:16389

PLEASURE SEEKERS- What a Way To Die w the Quatro Sisters (60s ) - Label:CRADLE ROCKS Digitally remastered with many never before released recordings! the original 60’s all girl rock and rollers who started a revolution.
The Pleasure Seekers lived, played, partied, and rocked the music scene in the Renaissance era of the 60’s, when female musicians were looked upon as “novelty acts”. The Pleasure Seekers and the music they played gained the attention and respect of Detroit “male rockers”, as well as the legends of the era. In just under five years, the Pleasure Seekers toured extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, and the Far East, as a headliner, as well as being support for acts like the Yardbirds, Eric Burdon and the Animals, Joe Cocker, Alice Cooper, Procol Harem, Badfinger, MC5, Bob Seger, Iggy Stooge, and many others. The historic recordings (many previously unreleased by the Quatro sisters) capture the beginning of their rock-n-roll revolution. The Pleasure Seekers were a forerunner, changing the myth of female musicians. Rockin it raw, with edge and attitude, they took over the garage, and unleashed their “Detroit Rock City” music on an unsuspecting world, starting a revolution for women to rock their music hard. To this day, these multi talented sisters are known as the teenagers who dared to go where women had not gone before, against all odds, stomping their way into a male-dominated heavy rock scene. PSYCHEDELIC UNDERGROUND- VOL 14 ( 70s psych prog ) SAALE -Label:Garden of Delights Still plenty of greatness to unearth in the Psychedelic Underground -- just the sort of tripped-out grooves we've really come to love from this well-priced series! Some of the work here is as heavy on jazzy elements as it is psychedelic ones -- making for a great blend that's a bit more organic at times than you might expect -- a world-ranging approach to the styles that really keeps things interesting, and which nicely breaks past simple cliches of psychedelia. Plus, many of the tracks are of European origin, and from the 70s -- and they've got key proggish elements as well, especially on some of the jazzier numbers. Titles include "Summer 79" by Gravestone, "Arctic Ocean" by Pancake, "Back On My Hill" by Faithful Breath, "Ala Dalona" by Emma Myldenberger, "Question" by Joy Unlimited, "Bolero" by Aqua, and "Where Is Your Home Town COMP CD $6 SKU:8718
SEA-DERS - ANTHOLOGY ( 60s Lebanese Rock ) Booklet contains liner notes by Mike Stax -Label:GROOVIE Contains all known grooving and infectious Middle Eastern inflected rock/beat tracks from the Sea-ders (or Cedars, depending on which 45 label you look at), Lebanon's top musical export to the world. Eight dynamic tracks, with driving rhythms, blazing electric bouzouki (or oud?), recorded between 1966-1968. Fantastic! Many groups have used elements of Eastern music to add mystery and exotica to their sound; the Sea-ders didn't flirt with foreign culture—they tapped right into the source. Decca Records contacted the group and offered them a record deal in the UK. Well, that didn't pan out, making the band's EP a very rare item indeed, despite being one of the most exciting releases of the era. Faced with studio bills from Decca, they sold their instruments and equipment and moved back to Beirut, leaving this perfect microcosm of exotic '60s pop in their wake. Liner notes by Mike Stax (Ugly Things Magazine). Limited pressing of only 500 copies. This time around, vinyl is mastered at 45 RPM, for maximum fidelity. The Sea-ders would only record eight tracks, but what amazing tracks they are!“As Record Collector magazine once noted, the Sea-Ders took a decidedly different tack when approaching this thing that is rock & roll. Instead of spiraling into over the top eastern-flavored otherness (like so many of their peers at the time) the Sea-Ders, having landed in London and signed to Decca in 1967, embraced a more primal, early Kinks-esque, approach to their songwriting. Coming from Beirut their take on the genre was already unique with succinct flourishes of psych and freakbeat coupled with their inherent cultural influences. Like so many non-western takes on the genre, the end result is a curious and unexpected gem.” —Aquarium Drinkard They effortlessly combine hookah-smoked Middle-Eastern guitar lines & hand drum beats with flawless London pop-psych production, and the effect is decidedly heady.” —Weirdo Records LP $13 SKU:8849
SEARCH PARTY- Montgomery Chapel A psychedelic masterpiece ! -180 gram w insert- photos, old-style tip-on jacket - Label:LION The only authorized reissue of this psychedelic masterpiece180 gram vinyl edition comes in an old-style tip-on jacket A holy grail for collectors of psychedelia Insert is packed with info and band history by band leader Nick Freund, plus photos from his personal archiveSearch Party was the brainchild of (then Reverend) Nicholas Freund. Having left Wisconsin to join a burgeoning West Coast religious scene, Freund made his way to San Francisco in 1968 to lay down this sole effort with some of his students. The result is a spooky trip that’s equal parts acid-soaked mind expansion and God. Laced with haunting vocals and dreamlike passages, sinister farfisa, blasts of fuzz guitar and downer lyrics, Montgomery Chapel is psychedelic music at its most evocative and thanks to its depth and sense of anxiety, most truly spiritual. The ominous nine-minute drifter 'So Many Things Have Got Me Down,' for example, tackles the difficulties of an unfulfilled married life, depression and spiritual apathy, all while riding a stripped down, grooving beat. If you can imagine a lo-fi United States of America/Jefferson Airplane hybrid, you have an idea of how cool this band sounds. Only 600 copies were pressed and issued on the custom Century label; they've become holy grails of collectors. Artists as disparate as Current 93's David Tibet and Sonic Boom have heaped praise on it. We're thrilled to give this lost classic a proper reissue. Audio restoration by Anders Peterson. Insert is packed with info thanks to Nick Freund, who was gracious enough to delve into his memory, scrapbook, and photo albums to help us flesh out the portrait of one of the most potent—and perhaps most unlikely—psychedelic groups to ever record an album TRACKLISTINGS ON SITE LP $23 SKU:16224
SHAG- 1969 Acid psych with insert with liner notes and photos -Label:OUT-SIDER SHAG was born from the ashes of garage band The Shags (of “Stop and Listen” fame). In the late 60s, they moved from Milwaukee to California, where they played at all the major venues and ballrooms, supporting famous bands like Jefferson Airplane and The Who. In 1969, the band recorded a demo at Pacific High Recordings in San Francisco, at the same time as the Grateful Dead were recording their classic “Working Man’s Dead” album there. The demo was in fact a fully finished album of bombastic psychedelia, acid-rock and proto-prog with loud fuzz-wah guitars, long tracks, crazy percussion and killer flute. Here’s the first ever vinyl reissue of these lost recordings. Master tape sound, insert with liner notes and photos LP $27 SKU:16281
