ABUELO , MIGUEL & NADA - ST (70s Argentine psych prog )-Label:CONDOR’S CAVE Recorded in 1974 in France, the album that is the bulk of this reissue has long been regarded as one of the finest recorded by any Argentine artist of the era. With a voice sounding like a cross between Tim Buckley and Peter Hammill, Abuelo became a big star in his native land, recording several rare psyched-out singles in the late sixties, with bells, treated vocals, strange edits, lots of phasing etc., included here as bonus tracks. But thanks to his fickle temper, there was no LP from Abuelo during that time—the album would only emerge years later, after a sojourn in Ibiza, and a bit of wandering throughout Europe. For the actual LP, Abuelo received superb support from Nada, who provided excellent musicianship throughout: the tracks are alternately progressive and very psychedelic (described by some as a cross between Led Zeppelin and Van der Graaf Generator), intense and gloomy. Sadly, Abuelo died of AIDS in 1988, which has diminished the importance of his legacy CD $16 SKU:20203

ALIVE AT THE DEEP BLUES FESTIVAL - BBQ SAUCE RED VINYL LTD. to 400 copies W Radio Moscow, Left Lane Cruiser , John the Conqueror and more. Label:ALIVE Color vinyl is exclusive to Bomp w/ download card (30 minutes of additional music) Alive At The Deep Blues Fest recaptures the loose and -spontaneous feel of live albums produced in the Golden Age of rock’n’roll.
The album was recorded live this summer at the Deep Blues Festival during three glorious (sold-out) days of great music, Southern-style BBQ and camaraderie between musicians, fans and friends alike, far from the corporate sterility of many larger modern music fests. Chris Johnson’s festival successfully revived the communal spirit of late ‘60s and early ‘70s music gatherings, evoking the vibe of a large summer picnic with family, friends, good food and great music.
BUFFALO KILLERS and RADIO MOSCOW turned in super heavy sets soaked in psychedelia and reverb, while LEE BAINS III & The GLORY FIRES fiercely ripped through their show with a blistering set of songs steeped in Southern rock, R&B, soul, gospel and punk. BRIAN OLIVE and his backing band melded soulful R&B with technicolor garage-pop for their early daytime set, while HENRY’S FUNERAL SHOE (the Welsh duo), LEFT LANE CRUISER and newcomers JOHN THE CONQUEROR perhaps kept closest to the Deep Blues curriculum with their respectively raunchy and heavily amplified modern interpretations of rural gutbucket Delta Blues.

Grab a copy of Alive At The Deep Blues Fest, invite a bunch of good friends over for some food & drink, and PLAY IT LOUD!

ALRUNE ROD - TATUBA TAPES (1975 psych Denmark)Label:KARMA MUSIC Alrune Rod's last concert was in 1975 in Club Tatuba, Copenhagen. The hippie era ended, Tatuba closed, the music took another sharp turn towards a more commercial style. Many musicians and record companies became upperclass and so it should be from then on... But Alrune Rod ended with style, and this 8 hours long concert was recorded (but only on 2 tracks it could not be mixed). 35 minutes found its way to this historical record CD $16 SKU:21213

ANGKOR POP - VA CAMBODIAN TRIBUTE TO IGGY POP-Label:HIGHLY BONGABLE RECORDS (Australia) Angkor Pop!' is an exotic and ambitious compilation project showcasing the very best of Cambodia's new wave of East/West fusion groups_an homage that marks several astonishing milestones in rock'n'roll history: the 50th anniversary of The Stooges, the 40th anniversary of the seminal Iggy Pop/David Bowie albums 'The Idiot' and 'Lust For Life,' and, not least, the occasion of Iggy Pop's 70th birthday!! The best of Cambodia's music scene, acts like The Cambodian Space Project, Doch Chkae, Kampot Playboys, Professor Kinski with Miss Sarawan and Jessica Lisha Srin, Bokor Mountain Magic Band, Phnom Skor just to name a few -each covering selections from Iggy Pop's astonishing back catalogue- with the full blessing of the man himself, who seemed (and seems) rather chuffed with this tribute coming from far flung Cambodia. ASTRAL DAZE- PSYCHEDELIC SOUTH AFRICAN ROCK 1968-1972
-Label:TAKE IT ACID IS '1968-1972' - This collection brings together rarities from well-known artists like Abstract Truth, Suck, Otis Waygood, Freedom's Children, John & Philipa Cooper, McCully Workshop and Hawk, as well as lesser known acts like Buzzard, The Fireflies, The Idiots, Tidal Wave, and The Invaders. Although the South African rock movement of the late sixties and early seventies was not a major commercial success, its participants heralded an exciting new age in South African rock and started a movement aimed at changing the musical tastes of fans in a spectacular way. Stadium concerts became the vehicle for feeding the youth with heavier rock sounds, and behind studio glass were producers like Clive Calder, Billy Forrest, Graham Beggs and Selwyn Miller who acted as change agents to transform conventional pop into heavier 4 to 5 minute songs. The movement's struggle for recognition through airplay remained unanswered and only the true fans of rock knew about their existence. Available on vinyl for the first time, complete with insert and liner notes

BEYOND THE CALICO WALL V/A (Excellent 60s acid-punk sampler) Label:VOXX LAST PRESSING of classic 60s psych! We thought this one was out of print, but found a few jackets at the pressing plant Excellent acid-punk sampler put together by New England collector Erik L. Issued fairly late in the game but recycling lots of weird psych numbers for the first time. A few tracks fall into the pointless-noise/novelty category but overall this was one of the best comps of the early 90s. All of the pieces are unbridled master strokes of the proto-punk D.I.Y. mentality married to the equally inspired garage rock psych of the mid- to late '60s. In a significant nod to collectors, none of these sides can be found on run-of-the-mill "best-of" anthologies, and there are only a mere handful that are available in any other incarnation. The material ranges from highly infectious pop melodies such as Duffy's spry rocker "Come Back Come Back" or the speed-fueled madness of the Waterproof Tinkertoy's trippy "Continuation." There are also a fair amount of indescribably acidic and downright far-out cuts, including the repetitive "Suzie's Gone" by the Afterglow and the rambling of Ceylib People's "Changes." In addition to the plethora of unearthed gems, Beyond the Calico Wall features a few familiar titles -- such as the faithfully extended 11-plus minute reworking of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" from 6 Feet Under as well as Rasputin & the Mad Monks' jet-propelled rendering of "I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)." Bhagavad Gita includes a mid-tempo distortion-driven electric guitar wailer titled "Long Hair Soulful," which was co-written by Chuck Mangione -- who included his version on his Eyes of the Veiled Temptress (1988). It is unknown if the famed jazz flügelhorn player was once a member of this Ohio-based band. COMP LP $15 SKU:2152

SMITH, CRAIG - Love is our Existence (1969 psych weirdness)-Label:Maitreya Apache Music P version. Tip-on gatefold sleeve; Includes liner notes; Edition of 500. Craig Smith was an extraordinarily gifted songwriter and musician who seemed poised for a successful career in the 1960s music business until his life was derailed by drugs and schizophrenia. In 1969 clean-cut, charismatic Craig Smith became Maitreya Kali, a dark, disturbed psychedelic Messiah figure with a black widow spider tattooed on his third eye. He laid out his strange vision on a self-released double-album Apache/Inca (1972), which would become a sought-after artifact of the psychedelic era. Success came easily for Craig Smith. In 1963, right out of high school he became a cast member of the popular Andy Williams TV show as one of the Good Time Singers, a wholesome folk ensemble that recorded for Capitol Records. Next he landed one of the lead parts in a new TV show, The Happeners, about a Greenwich Village folk group. But when the TV pilot was not picked up, he set out on his own musical path with the folk-rock duo Chris & Craig and then the more psychedelic Penny Arkade, produced and managed by Mike Nesmith of the Monkees. Throughout this period Smith was constantly writing songs, some of which were recorded by other artists, including the Monkees ("Salesman"), Andy Williams ("Holly", "Christmas Holiday"), the Robbs ("Rapid Transit"), and Glen Campbell ("Country Girl"). But soon afterwards, his life took a dark, terrifying turn. Turning to LSD and Eastern mysticism he journeyed through Asia along the hippie trail where he was brutally attacked, raped, and left for dead. He was never the same again. As Maitreya Kali, he self-released the now legendary Apache and Inca albums in 1972 before disappearing into the shadows. He spent much of the 1970s in prison or in mental institutions before eventually drifting into homelessness on the streets of Hollywood. He died in his sleeping bag in North Hollywood Park in March 2012. Craig's older brother Gary contacted Stax with a trove of unreleased music. The best of those songs are presented on Love Is Our Existence. Professionally recorded in Los Angeles studios between 1966 and 1971, these previously unheard songs reveal a singer and songwriter of breathtaking depth and talent. Remastered from acetate discs and master tapes. LP $25 SKU:10280

STONEWALL - ST (The ultimate hard rock holy grail!) Label:PERMANENT So you're addicted to hard rock from 1972 and getting tired of LPs that don't take you for the full ride. You check out tons of 'em. Stonewall? Hmmm... only the most potent and rare stuff can get you off nowadays. Kicks intense enough to remind you why you got into it in the first place. Jams you can't wait to lay on your friends so uncontrollably alive you know it's gonna wipe 'em out. Yeah... you really need Stonewall. It's ritual time.

I hear people all over the world saying Stonewall is a 'Holy Grail'. I agree. 'Holy Grail' status for an LP requires the most extreme and exciting combination of quality and rarity. That's not all. It has to have mystery. It has to reek of humanity. There can be no other LP that beats it at its game. Top dog. It has to be a mindfuck capable of destroying anybody who hears it, including those who have previously only experienced the usual killer classics. Finding a copy must come as close to impossible as possible and remain that way even after everybody knows about it. As an original pressing, Stonewall fulfills all of the 'Holy Grail' requirements and I am jacked that a legitimate reissue finally happens some 30 odd years after it first blew me away!" - Paul Major LP $22 SKU:21265

Tony Mitchell, reviewing for Sounds in their 25 September 1976 issue: "Strawbs have a distinctive style, accreditable to founder member Dave Cousins... Cousins' presence is as powerful as it has ever been; he dominates both the writing ... and the singing, drawing on the other members of the band for back up vocals only. ... Deep Cuts is characterised by a sense of drama; many of the songs have strong story lines... with a moralistic or allegorical content reminiscent of contemporary folk music, or perhaps more accurately of the mid-to-late Sixties era when songsmiths like Dylan and Baez dominated... This is none too surprising since the roots of the original Strawbs lay very much in that era and that kind of music. But this is definitely rock music... undoubtedly enhanced by the guitar work of that other old Strawbs Dave Lambert and the rhythmic patterns generated by Chas Cronk and percussionist Rod Coombes. Indeed the choice of ''I Only Want My Love To Grow' as first track... seems to say 'Here we are, we're a rock band' but the following track 'Turn Me Round' has Cousins in more classical form with Dylanesque vocals and slurred phrasing, saying, if you like, 'but we're still the Strawbs'" All in all, concludes Mitchell, "an album which will not disappoint Strawbs fans and probably get them a good few more. It has power and it has magic. CD $8 SKU:19076

SUCK - Time to Suck ( 1970 South African hard rock ) Label:FRESH The loudest, most controversial and obnoxious revolutionary fist-in-your-face rock album not to come out of Detroit! An album (Parlophone, 1970) that is all howling feedback guitars, explosive drumming, and muscular vocal antics‹and why not, as the album includes cover versions of songs by Black Sabbath, Grand Funk, plus a slow-burn 'Season of the Witch' that would spook Donovan, and the most schizoid '21st Century Schizoid Man' imaginable; the band rampaged through conservative South Africa for almost one year, then split; original album plus an EMI compilation track as a bonus; liner notes and photos tell the whole story of Suck. SUNFOREST-The Sound of(UK Acid folk‘69) 20-page booklet with additional insider information on the band, & lyrics-Label:ACME LION There was once a band called Sunforest, who recorded a splendid album in 1969. The record is (as has been said elsewhere) a unique compendium of UK acid folk with a popsike feel, sporting harpsichord and (somewhat) medieval-tinged arrangements integrated into electric and acoustic folk-esque tunes. But one thing must be said straight away: the Sunforest album is not at all twee—the songs are far too clever, and the production (by legendary producer Vic Coppersmith-Heaven) has far too much depth—we say this despite cover art that seems to have misled people since the album was released. Worthy of special mention is the phenomenal folk/funk vibe-fest 'Magician In The Mountain,' which has made this LP the object of desire of many a DJ and a sampler. And, of course, lest we forget, the Sunforest album supplies the answer to the recent burning question (for those of you living in the UK): “What’s that song on the Marks and Spencer TV advert—the one with Twiggy and those other girls in it, singing, "I want to marry a lighthouse keeper.” Why, it’s ‘Lighthouse Keeper,’ of course! The sound of Sunforest was enlivened by contributions from exceptional and experienced studio musicians. On this album, you can hear supple work from bass guitarist par excellance Herbie Flowers (it’s his bass that makes Lou Reed's ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ one of the best late-night songs ever written; he also played bass on the Serge Gainsbourg’s “Histoire de Melody Nelson”). He was joined for the Sunforest sessions by his compatriot in the Jean-Claude Vannier Orchestra, guitarist on an incredible variety of UK number one hit songs (fifty-nine to be exact), including the Kink’s “You Really Got Me,” Thunderclap Newman’s "Something in the Air,’ and Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg’s orgasmic classic ‘Je t'aime... moi non plus’: session-guitarist extraordinaire (and the mastermind behind the Lord Sitar and “Sitar Beat” albums), Big Jim Sullivan. Yes, here on the Sunforest album these two titans of UK rock can be found working with another legend, Vic Smith, on what turned out to be the only release from a trio of unpretentious girls, discovered in a cafe. Ah, the wondrous 1960’s! Includes a 20-page booklet with additional insider information on the band, as well as lyrics. Licensed from Decca/Universal, UK. CD $10 SKU:8390

SURFER JOE-Swell of Dwell (Dick Dale style) -Label:DIONYSUS Very well known as one of the hardest working men in modern surf music, SURFER JOE has gained through the years the highest reputation in the world community for his musical skills and his well proven capacity to gather fans from everywhere. Although instrumental surf music has evolved in any possible directions from its Californian origins - so much that nowadays sometimes we call surf what is not really surf - SURFER JOE rmly remains into the traditional surf style using guitar sounds, melodies and rhythm patterns that are immediate identifiers of the genre. SURFER JOE plays surf music. Period. Going from the most aggressive tunes a-la- DICK DALE, to mellow and sentimental ballads, giving an extraordinary attention to the quality of the melodies. During his live performances he can go really loud and wild, but he is perfectly able to roll back, never scared to put in a slow song, driving the show the way he wants. All of this is, once more, re ected in his latest work: Swell of Dwell. LP $15 SKU:21038

SWAMP DOGG - 4 CD BUNDLE (70s Psychedelic soul genius!)Label:ALIVE Rat On, Gag A Maggot, Total Destruction . White Man made me do it digipacks. -

Swamp Dogg is a national treasure.” - Swamp Dogg
In 1970 the Southern soul music maverick Jerry Williams, Jr. made the most radical move of his career. Frustrated with music business politics Williams reinvented himself as Swamp Dogg, an irreverent anti-hero smashing the conventions of commercial R&B music. Swamp Dogg’s debut release Total Destruction to Your Mind featured a post-apocalyptic take on the Muscle Shoals’ sound, with lyrics inspired by the revolutionary politics and psychedelic drugs of the late ‘60s. The music on Total Destruction to Your Mind stood worlds apart from the formulaic pop tunes Williams started cutting in 1954 under the name Little Jerry, and Swamp Dogg hasn’t looked back since.
But the music business wasn’t ready for Swamp Dogg, nor was the rest of America. His bizarre album titles and wild cover art turned the average consumer off, while his subversive lyrics earned him a spot on Richard Nixon’s infamous enemies list. Swamp Dogg was not deterred. He seemed to relish operating from the margins of the music business, consequently becoming one of the quintessential outsider figures in American music. CD $35 SKU:15203

AT ON!” (1971), was ranked as having one of the top ten worst album covers of all time, an achievement that Swamp Dogg is rightfully proud of. Vocally, Swamp Dogg sounds like a cross between General Johnson (of Chairmen of the Board) and Van Morrison; as a songwriter, he’s his own man. With the exception of Sly Stone, no other soul men of the period were investigating controversial topics with such infectious musicality and good humor. – AMG LP $20 SKU:14999

SWEET SLAG -Tracking With Close-Ups (1969 heavy dark psych cult rarity )-Label:ACME/LION Formed in 1969, this 4-piece UK outfit went on to record one ultra collectable album in 1971 for president records. originally the album was going to be titled "guerilla jazz rock" but came to be renamed "tracking with close-ups." The band toured extensively supporting the likes of Deep Purple, Stray, Nucleus, Graham Bond, Black Cat Bones and Third Ear Band. Over the years the album has built a cult reputation with collectors. the album is certainly different to many released at that time and has a unique heavy dark psychedelic aspect running through the album, almost borders on proto-metal on several tracks, as well as some darker progressive elements and beefheart and zappa moments, making it such a unique and classic album of the time. the real deal early 70's UK underground!

SYSTEMADDICTS -BROKEN HEARTED ON THE NULLABOR (Aussie 60’s style Garage punk)-Label:OFF THE HIP Systemaddicts are a fun, energetic six piece garage punk group from Adelaide, South Australia. They were formed by original members Liam Convey, guitarist, singer and songwriter and his bass guitarist sister Kaeli when they were still teenagers. They were joined by Jamie Woolaway on organ, Frank Boulden on drums, later replaced by current drummer Elliot Hoskin, their younger brother Rory, on Trombone (who was only 16 at the time), and Tasman Strachan on second guitar. Their style originally was a blend of the hardcore punk that Liam had been doing in his previous teenaged group The Subtitles, with the more sixties influenced keyboard style Jamie was playing with The Molting Vultures.

The Systemaddicts are huge fans of 60s era groups such as The Sonics and The Loved Ones and are also big fans of 70s/80s groups like Magazine, Radio Birdman, The Birthday Party, and The Sunnyboys. Liam Convey draws upon these influences and more when he composes the original tunes the group plays, featuring honest lyrics reflecting the contemporary Australian experience. CD $5 SKU:18017

T2-IT'LL ALL WORK OUT IN BOOMLAND(UK POWER TRIO) - Label:ACME LION The rise of power trio T2 in 1970 was rapid: important open-air festivals; headlining residencies at the Marquee Club; appearances at virtually every major venue in London. Then their debut album was released; they seemed poised for a breakthrough. As the band recalled, they were playing the Marquee club, with John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix hanging out backstage, which was all to the good. But people were coming forward saying, 'we can't find your album anywhere.' In short order, the band fell apart. Still, their sole Decca album has become well established as an all-time classic amongst progressive and psychedelic music collectors—even the techno and DJ crowds. The fact that it has done so without hype is a testament to the innate quality of the music. The album is packed with melodic acoustic passages and frenzied fuzz guitar workouts, not to mention acid-trip induced lyrical and musical content. At the epicenter is the incredibly deft drumming of vocalist Peter Dunton (Neon Pearl, Please, the Flies), who rides the shifting sands of the trio's dense playing with ease and dexterity. By album's end, you’ve been lulled by the band’s soft side, and pummeled by their heavy side. Equal parts amazingly controlled prog, at other times the heaviest damn stuff anyone had heard c. 1970, this is truly a perfect record.•the perfect example of an album that should not be forgotten—an album that must not be forgotten!•40th anniversary edition with insert. LP $16 SKU:12802

T2- ST (obscure 70s psych prog) -Label:ACME LION Even though fame and fortune never came to pass for T2, their Decca album “It’ll All Work out in Boomland” has become an all-time classic amongst collectors of progressive and psychedelic music, and even in the techno and dj scenes. Apart from a 1970 Sound of the 70’s BBC radio session, (included on our Acme/Lion reissue of “It’ll All Work Out in Boomland,” ACLN 1010 CD), fans assumed that “Boomland” was both the beginning and the end of the group’s recorded legacy. But Acme Records unearthed an eponymous second album of material, recorded in 1970 with the original line-up as demo tracks for a planned second album. This was first released way back in the late 1990’s, and is now available again thanks to the new Acme/Lion version which is the subject of this one-sheet. This second T2 album, had it been released in 1970, could have put the band on the same level of fame with the likes of Deep Purple, Free, and King Crimson (bands with whom T2 shared a stage). It’s hard-driving opener ‘Highway,’ ablaze with wailing guitars, gives way to moody introspection, culminating with the LSD induced finale ‘T2.’ It’s music that is dreamy without being sleepy; heavy without danger of suffocation. Those of you who were lucky enough to snap up a copy of the limited Acme Deluxe pressings of this album many years ago now can testify to the importance of these recordings. For those of you who missed out the first time around—or who have only recently discovered the greatness of the mighty T2—all we can say is, enjoy the power and glory of the second T2 album! This is the first time this great psychedelic album is being released in the US, and it comes with 3 bonus tracks. COOL AID BENEFIT ALBUM - DBL LP (gatefold/hand-numbered to 1,000) PLUS DVD Label:REGENERATOR Limited deluxe double-LP (gatefold/hand-numbered to 1,000) release on Light In The Attic /At the end of the 1960’s, there was a house in Vancouver that was a home solely for Hippies and homeless youth; it was known to locals as “the Cool Aid House.” When the Canadian government withdrew funding in 1970, the house was in danger of closing. All of the top bands in the Vancouver area offered to record songs for a benefit album—and since the local music scene produced some of the best bands in Canada, the album that resulted was stunning; it has long been a much sought-after collector’s item. What no one knew until recently was that the original “Cool Aid Benefit Album” was intended as a two-record set: contractual problems with Capitol Records forced Cool Aid House founder John Walsch to drop tracks by Mother Tucker’s Yellow Duck—tracks that are now restored to this package. Other cuts include the strange proto-electronic burbles of Mock Duck (quite unlike almost everything else they ever recorded) on ‘As the Bullet Enters Anton’ and ‘Pointillistic Scherzo’; the vicious snarl of Black Snake’s ‘Carousel,’ and the strange Spalding Grey-ish acoustic song/poem ‘The Planet Man.’ Hydro Electric Street Car have left little behind them, but their lovely ‘High Memory’ sounds like a lost Grateful Dead track from their early, dreamy period. A terrific discovery! The end result of the joint efforts of Light in the Attic and Lion Productions is this deluxe 2xLP package, jam-packed with stand-out music by Vancouver’s top bands of the day: Mother Tucker’s Yellow Duck, Papa Bear’s Medicine Show, Mock Duck, Hydro Electric Streetcar, Route Nine, Blacksnake Blues Band, Nancy, Spring, and Greydon Moore and Leo Jung. Obscure cuts available nowhere else, in a wide variety of styles: weird electronic sounds, heavy garage fuzz guitar freakouts, stoner rock, and acoustic folk. COMP LP $15 SKU:14586

EL PASO ROCK - Vol 6 (60s Texas rarities) - Label:NORTON Raw rock from the El Paso scene of the early 60s – most of it material produced by local music hound Calvin Boles – a force as important to that scene as Lee Hazlewood was to Phoenix! Boles has a great ear for a sharp guitar line – and really manages to bring the best out of all the players here, giving the tunes an echoey feel that's mighty nice – and which really serves to fan the sparks of genius into a much longer-burning flame! Norton's done a great job with this volume – and have managed to unearth some rare Bobby Fuller tracks, along with gems from contemporaries on the Yucca and Exeter labels. Titles include "Black Out" and "Tickler" by The Sherwoods, "Hot Rod Ford" by DY & The Motivaters, "Lonely" by David Hayes & The Pawns, "Pawn" by The Pawns, "You Hold My Letters" by Bill Taylor & The Sherwoods, "Judy" by The Chancellers, "Dance To The Palisades" by Frank Gonzales & The Palisades, and "You're In Love" and "Say Honey" by Bobby Fulle COMP LP $13 SKU:15231
