FEVERS-Love Always Wins (70s powerpop NErves style ! ) Label:ALIEN SNATCh As powerpop as Teenage Head, Nerves and Knack (without ties & laughing all the way to the bank) while taking their cues from the "odd" bubblegum craze boy groups of the 60's and injecting stunning "nice guy" 60's harmonies. No need for gimmicks here, they just love to rock. They love it loud but they dont wanna be "LOUD" like most of the others out there. The combination of Gavin's undeniably distinguished raspy voice, backed by that foot-tapping juice-driving heart-soaring lead guitar with Who-ish rough punchiness creates a sound that is simple but surprising, intense but subtle and shining, shining bright. CD $17 SKU:24390

SIRENS -ST (70s style SHANGRI LAS/ glam style!)Label:GET HIP The bulk of this debut was recorded in a 48-hour frenzy at Tarbox Studios by Michael Ivins of the Flaming Lips. Taking his cue from a description of their sound as some where between the Shangri-Las and Black Sabbath, Ivins perfectly captures the lethal combination of loud fuzz guitars and serious singing that sets these girls apart from the usual “Detroit Garage Sound.” This record is also graced by 3 glam-basted tunes produced by Jim Diamond, including a cover of the little known pre-NY Dolls British rock kings, The Hollywood Brats. And speaking of covers, the Sirens apologetically mine the endless supply of Rock 'n Roll nuggets that inspire them. The offerings on this record run the full gamut from Roky Erickson to Suzi Quatro, from the Equals to Timi Yuro, while firmly rooted in their ’70s Glam influenced sound. CD $10 SKU:21816
SKELETONS-Nothing to Lose (American roots music) Label:Hightone records Another charmingly ragged slice of American roots music, Nothing to Lose is a typically infectious set of blues, country-rock and rock & roll that proves why the Skeletons have long been considered one of America's best, most underrated bar bands. CD $10 SKU:24325

SMITH, CRAIG - Love is our Existence (1969 psych weirdness)Label:Maitreya Apache Music Craig Smith was an extraordinarily gifted songwriter and musician who seemed poised for a successful career in the 1960s music business until his life was derailed by drugs and schizophrenia. In 1969 clean-cut, charismatic Craig Smith became Maitreya Kali, a dark, disturbed psychedelic Messiah figure with a black widow spider tattooed on his third eye. He laid out his strange vision on a self-released double-album Apache/Inca (1972), which would become a sought-after artifact of the psychedelic era. Success came easily for Craig Smith. In 1963, right out of high school he became a cast member of the popular Andy Williams TV show as one of the Good Time Singers, a wholesome folk ensemble that recorded for Capitol Records. Next he landed one of the lead parts in a new TV show, The Happeners, about a Greenwich Village folk group. But when the TV pilot was not picked up, he set out on his own musical path with the folk-rock duo Chris & Craig and then the more psychedelic Penny Arkade, produced and managed by Mike Nesmith of the Monkees. Throughout this period Smith was constantly writing songs, some of which were recorded by other artists, including the Monkees ("Salesman"), Andy Williams ("Holly", "Christmas Holiday"), the Robbs ("Rapid Transit"), and Glen Campbell ("Country Girl"). But soon afterwards, his life took a dark, terrifying turn. Turning to LSD and Eastern mysticism he journeyed through Asia along the hippie trail where he was brutally attacked, raped, and left for dead. He was never the same again. As Maitreya Kali, he self-released the now legendary Apache and Inca albums in 1972 before disappearing into the shadows. He spent much of the 1970s in prison or in mental institutions before eventually drifting into homelessness on the streets of Hollywood. He died in his sleeping bag in North Hollywood Park in March 2012. Craig's older brother Gary contacted Stax with a trove of unreleased music. The best of those songs are presented on Love Is Our Existence. Professionally recorded in Los Angeles studios between 1966 and 1971, these previously unheard songs reveal a singer and songwriter of breathtaking depth and talent. Remastered from acetate discs and master tapes. CD $19 SKU:20359
SMITH, CRAIG - (MAITREYA KALI) APACHE-INCA(1969 psych weirdness)Label:Maitreya Apache Music The first ever official release of Craig Smith's psychedelic folk masterpiece 'Apache-Inca'. In 1972, after changing his name to Maitreya Kali, Craig compiled and custom-pressed two LPs documenting his musical journey from 1967-72, including tracks with the Penny Arkade. Combined into a double album set, 'Apache-Inca' was given away or sold hand to hand on the street before Maitreya... and Craig... disappeared into the shadows. Only a handful of original copies are known to exist. The last time one was offered for sale, it went for over $10,000. Pirate copies routinely sell for over $400. Released by arrangement with the Smith family, comes in digipak with 32-page booklet. CD $19 SKU:22321

SNOWY DUNES-ATLANTIS(70s style heavy psych blues)Label: OZIUM Snowy Dunes have caught a heavy blues. They're far from the only ones. The last couple years have witnessed a nascent surge of soul-driven heavy rock, and whether manifest in the high-order pop hooks of Snowy Dunes' Swedish countryfolk Blues Pills, the grit of New York's Geezer or the dug-in jams of Australia's Child, these worldwide examples are tied together through a blend of sonic fluidity, songcraft, open atmosphere and underlying naturalism that carries across this core sound as a next logical step forward for what in the earlier part of the decade might've been more straight-ahead boogie rock recorded on vintage gear. Snowy Dunes keeps impressing with their psychedelic/blues rock, putting themselves at the top of interesting bands from Sweden! You don't need any recreational drugs to take the journey. Just let the music in and it will do the rest for you. If you like you music spiced with a huge dose of the '70s then you have come to the right band. CD $17 SKU:23662
SONIC DAWN- ECLIPSE (STONER PSYCH)-Label:HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS The rays of The Sonic Dawn are like a reminder that reality is only temporary. Flickering between light and darkness, their sound burns with an intensity that places the Danish trio among the top psychedelic acts of their time. Following their first two album releases, The Sonic Dawn have toured Europe more or less constantly, only returning home to focus on their biggest work to date: Eclipse. Their third full-length, is the product of a full year's labor, with all 13 tracks carefully selected from among over 40 candidates. Inspired by personal tragedies and the current meltdown of the world as we know it, the songs deal with a feeling of despair that many will recognize, but also seem to say that one can heal and come out stronger, if one dares take the leap. The result is a cinematic journey in sonic technicolor. Here, even the catchiest melody casts a mysterious shadow, and every mind-altering solo is torn out of Emil Bureau's guitar as if it owed him money. CD $14 SKU:23062
SONIC DAWN -PERCEPTION (mix between a '68 biker movie soundtrack and Scandinavian psych!)-Label:HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS 'Perception' is the debut album by The Sonic Dawn from Copenhagen. A coherent album full of twangy guitars, dreamy vocals, sitar and groovy rhythms. Several tracks feature the immensely talented organist Erik 'Errka' Petersson of Siena Root and Dean Allen Foyd. HE PUT THE BOMP- - PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED psych/garage tracks by RADIO MOSCOW,/BLACK KEYS /NIKKI CORVETTE/BARRACUDAS -Label:BOMP his is not a tribute album per se, but more of a remembrance of Greg Shaw and his unique perspective. We asked the bands to go into the studio and cut the cover song they felt was most in tune with the idea of the label and the result is a nice brew of garage punk, power pop and psychedelia that we think captures the spirit and sound of Bomp records.
The Plimsouls and Lyres covered the Easybeats and the Outsiders respectively, the Black Keys surprised us with their rendering of the Cramps "I Can't Find My Mind", while the Dwarves and the Briefs sent their versions of punk classics by the Weirdos and the Zeros.
We also got some nice surprises with the teaming up of Captain Sensible (The Damned) and the late Nikki Sudden for an acoustic cover of Iggy's "Kill City", Chris Wilson of the Flamin' Groovies joined the Barracudas to capture Rocky Erickson's "Two Headed Dog," and a Cleveland super group of sorts tabbed The Dukes Of Earls was formed with ex-members of the Dead Boys and the Stiv Bators' band.
Also included is an amazing rendition of Rockin' Horse's classic "Don't You Ever Think I Cry" by Buffalo Killers (currently on tour with the Black Crowes), a cover of Spacemen 3 by The Warlocks, and much more. The Last even dug up for the occasion their previously unreleased rendering of Jonathan Richman's "Pablo Picasso" recorded back in 1977. There's a lot of cool music on this comp which we hope fans and collectors will enjoy. COMP CD $10 SKU:19890

GRAVEDIGGER V - All Black & Hairy (60 PEBBLES style Classic cave garage) BLUE Label:VOXX 1984 RECORDING. ORIGINAL RAINBO PRESSING. The one proper album the band released in its lifetime, All Black and Hairy is both perfectly named and perfectly performed -- if it's nothing but a re - All Black & Hairy LTD ED of 150 CLEAR BLUE VINYL! (60 style Classic cave garage ) -vivalist approach at heart, it's such a damn entertaining one that there's no cause for complaint. With its title track taken from the appropriately goonball back catalog of Screamin' Lord Sutch and its general snot-mouthed attitude from every last Nuggets and Pebbles selection ever, about the only thing missing are the lava lamps and garage stink. Saying the band uses the right combination of fuzztone guitars and echo and heavy frug rhythms is a bit like saying the sky is blue -- it's just one of those things to be expected -- but the sheer energy and abandon present keep everything from simply retracing the past to no point. Leighton's credit is for "lead screaming," and that about sums it up -- he's not so much singing as pulling off the ultimate teen-wannabe-Mick Jagger performance, only even more aggressively snotty. Ted Friedman's lead guitar solos with the right rave-up spirit and John Hanrattie keeps the core melodies going, while the Tom Ward/David Anderson rhythm section aims to get rears shaking instead of sitting. The album is half split between inspired originals (check out the concluding "Stoneage Stomp") and actual songs from the time, the latter resulting in fun versions of tracks like the Uncalled For's "Do Like Me" and Larry & the Bluenotes' "Night of the Phantom." About the only thing missing is the original studio recording of the band's best number, "It's Spooky," but anyone wanting a quick blast of '60s punk thrills filtered through later years could do much worse than to dig this one up. LP $20 SKU:16261

HACIENDA - Big Red and Barbacoa ( prod by Dan of the Black Keys ) (YELLOW VINYL ltd ed last copies ) Label:ALIVE BIG RED & BARBACOA is the second album by South Texas' HACIENDA, and like its predecessor Loud Is The Night (Alive 2008), it was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. Recorded on the tail-end of a year playing clubs and festivals across North America, Australia and Europe (opening for Dan Auerbach and Dr. Dog, and more recently for Alberta Cross), this new album brings heavier grooves and flavor to the '60s harmonies sound the band is known for. The result is a blend of Tex-Mex roots rock, retro-pop and R&B that can only be described as South Texas Soul. BIG RED & BARBACOA captures the attitude of a band ready to throw pretension to the roadside and play rock'n'roll the way it was intended.

HANDSOME JACK- Do What Comes Naturally- back in print at long last on YELLOW VINYL! - Label:ALIVE Their long out of print 2014 album “Do What Comes Naturally" repressed on clear yellow vinyl. Handsome Jack plays a fusion of boogie soul rock n roll that has earned them the admiration of fellow rock travelers Chris Robinson and Neal Casal (CRB, Black Crowes), Zachary Gabbard (Buffalo Killers), and Ben McLeod (All Them Witches) among many others. "Handsome Jack are so cool it hurts." – CLASSIC ROCK
The only factor that suffers with a band like Handsome Jack is the reality of the fact, that music, of any genre, suffers. There is a lot of music out ‘there’ riding invisible rays and available thru a multitude of formats and accessibilities. You gotta dig deep and find what connects with you before it’s lost in the shuffle of the beast called Right Fucking Now. As listens of “Naturally” tallied, the more and more I appreciated the release as a whole… The sorts of fondness that would not be found in a big-shot music reviewer scanning ten seconds of each track then spit out a few adjectives to coincide with that press release. Fuck that.
Rock N Roll isn’t dead if you don’t want it to be. Let’s try to spend some time with a CD or record or whatever, to connect once again. Yes, it comes naturally to just hit the button to most, but not because we want to, it’s because some have too. Take some time with “Naturally”. Turn it up. Sit a while. Open up your mind and your ears. You just might like something after all without being given permissions by the industry. LP $22 SKU:24410
HANDSOME JACK BLACK - Everything's Gonna Be Alright Label:ALIVE Here's what the media had to say about Handsome Jack's last album Do What Comes Naturally :
This record is probably more fun than the first Black Crowes record—which from an influence/aesthetics standpoint, it oddly evokes—and were it to bear a Harvest Records imprint and a 1970 copyright date, no one would bat an eye. Which must mean it’s really good. – ROLLING STONE
No pretense, no skinny pants, no Swatches to be seen. This is your dad’s rock and roll. And your dad was cooler than you. – GLORIOUS NOISE
This record rules. It’s an album for people who want stanky, swampy, dirty boogie. This one’s a keeper; trust us. You want standout tracks? Try all of ‘em. – PERFORMER MAGAZINE
Handsome Jack are mining a tradition, and Do What Comes Naturally digs solid ore from a deep vein… a celebration of laid-back but serious partying, and it'll make a fine soundtrack for your next celebration of the boogie. – ALL MUSIC
Recalls greasy '70s stoner stuff — Allman Brothers et al. – MILWAUKEE JOURNAL-SENTINEL
The music of this album seamlessly flows through deep dark mid-tempo boogies, smoky upbeat burners and soulful feel-good rockers all with a natural ease… damn catchy. – GLIDE MAGAZINE
Handsome Jack's music resonates with the atmospheres of rock's great ballrooms - the Avalon, Fillmore, Winterland, Agora, Grande - and the bands who rocked them. They call their music ‘boogie soul,’ but the boogie gave birth to rock and their souls are plugged into an extension cord that stretches from Buffalo to the Delta. – NO DEPRESSION LP $25 SKU:20239
HEAD -ST ( 1992-Obscure 60s style psych Creem, Led Zep style ) last copies - Label:VOXX ORIGINAL PRESSING. Unfairly, this album has always remained obscure, even among Voxx releases. Perhaps this is due to their style, which is freeform and creative, rather than the formulaic approach audiences seem to prefer. With influences ranging from Cream to Led Zep to little-known British bands like July, Head blew a lot of minds in Los Angeles in the early '90s with their light show and extended trip-jams. For their album debut, they chose a different approach: using all the studio tricks at their command to make a finely-crafted collage of sounds designed to flow through a listener's most spaced-out headphone session. But this long album also includes most of their live freakout favorites, and there are frequent moments of sublime ensemble playing. [12/92] Greg Shaw LP $15 SKU:22115

HYPSTRZ - Hypstrization (Incendiary '70s punk-era performances of '60s garage classics) BLUE VINYL Label:BOMP Records The 1980 garage/soul gem by this legendary Minneapolis outfit, originally released on Voxx and out of print for decades. Entirely remastered from the original master tapes, restored to its original artwork, and lovingly pressed on clear blue vinyl.
It's ironic that '60s revivalist bands often produce records that are as rare and difficult to find as the records from which their material is sourced. Such is the case for this Midwest band's fantastic 1980 Bomp LP, "Hypstrization!" Despite the backing from Bomp, the album went unnoticed by many ardent garage rock fans, only to attain a level of cult desirability among collectors in later years. The band themselves were an anachronism, reviving mid-60s garage rock in the teeth of late-70s punk, thrilling and confounding audiences in fraternal halls, local ballrooms and bowling alleys throughout the upper Midwest. What made it work, and what comes across so clearly on these live recordings, is that the group was fully committed to the sounds they produced, and the fuel of fellow punk bands (both local like The Suicide Commandos, and god-like, such as The Ramones) made their snarling, thrashing garage rock a lot more than a pose.
Bomp's original LP is included in full as this CD's opening 15 tracks. It's a sweaty evening of garage rock classics - whether or not they were garage rock in the first place. In addition to mid-60s punk anthems like "Riot on Sunset Strip," "Talk Talk" and "96 Tears," the band revs up the soul side "In the Midnight Hour" and "I Go Crazy," and takes The Small Faces' "All or Nothing" out for a heartfelt spin. The non-stop assault, punctuated by occasional song count-offs, follows the performance template the band picked up from The Ramones, as does their combination of hammering guitars topped with melodic vocals.
This reissue expands upon the original LP with 18 additional live selections from the same pair of nights at Jay's Longhorn. These extra tracks include more garage-ified soul/funk tunes ("Hold on I'm Coming" "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag"), Nuggets/Pebbles standards ("Action Woman" "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White"), well-picked British Invasion winners ("Come See Me" "66-5-4-3-2-1" and "I'm Not Talking"), rockabilly rave-ups (Eddie Cochran's "C'mon Everybody"), and some '60s chart oddities (Sgt. Barry Sandler's "Ballad of the Green Berets" and The Shangri-Las "Remember (Walking in the Sand"). Closing out the collection is a trio of live tracks waxed in 2004 (including a stomping of The Sonics' "The Witch"), proving that the band rocks just as frenetically now as they did twenty-five years ago. This is a must have for garage rock fans, original or neo.- hyperbolium LP $18 SKU:11922

JOHN THE REVELATOR- WILD BLUES (70s Dutch blues) SAALE!Label:PSEUDONYM Back in 1970 the Dutch blues band John The Revelator won the prestigious Loosdrecht Jazz Concours. Record label Decca immediately offered them a recording contract, which resulted in the release of the legendary album 'Wild Blues'. It was recorded at the Phonogram studio with producer Tony Vos, who had a great track record with bands like Cuby + Blizzards, Ekseption and the Oscar Benton Blues Band. At that time John The Revelator had grown into a seven-piece band. They had just two days to record the album and one evening to mix it. Most tracks were done in two or three takes, with a bare minimum of overdubs: just vocals and horns. 'Wild Blues' has since become a highly sought-after collectors item. This deluxe 180-gram audiophile vinyl LP set presents the original album in its entirety, plus two extra songs: the instrumental 'Yeah' and the (in 1971) recorded B-side of a never released single, 'One Track Mind', all dynamically mastered from the original tapes. The gatefold sleeve features restored cover art, along with rare archival photos and liner notes. John the Revelator is still alive and kicking and has been on the road now for 45 years. They play all over Europe and toured Australia. Exclusively restored dynamic 24 bit remastering from the original master tapes - LP high quality 180 gram audiophile pressing - Original restored artwork - Deluxe 350 gram carton gatefold sleeve - Rare photos & liner notes included LP $22 SKU:23209
JOINT EFFORT -Final Effort (intriguing folk/rock/psych 1974) SAALE! -Label:VOID/HALLUCINATIONS RECORDS (USA) With its immediately recognizable M C Escher cover, this intriguing folk/rock/psych release from 1974 is another incredibly rare album enjoying its first legitimate reissue. A Joint Effort's Final Effort was originally recorded and released by Canada's University Of New Brunswick on its Little Records label (Little Records 101); despite its lack of wider recognition, this is generally regarded by those who know as a diverse and eclectic album with a number of outstanding tracks. One pundit described it as 'a weird mix of early CSNY, with shades of Perth County Conspiracy and a dash of early Eagles thrown in.' The first side, with the superb 'Winter' is particularly impressive—largely acoustic hippy folk rock with the occasional electric guitar thrown in for good measure. Side two, however, is an altogether rockier affair with standout tracks 'Greed For Goldand,' an up-tempo fuzzed-out cover of ‘A Horse With No Name’ combining effectively to elevate Final Effort to a different musical plane. Original cover has been reproduced as well as rare original insert. LP $15 SKU:19256
