ROCH, ERNAN- La Onda Pesada (70s west coast style psych)-Label:MARIPOSA (Argentina) Reissues of rare underground albums from Mexico: con las Voces Frescas "La Onda Pesada": first time reissue on CD of this extremely rare Rex label psychedelic classic (1971) from Mexico; West Coast style psych—a little bit folksy, a little bit psychedelic from this a Mexican singer known only for this rare album. Roch sings in English throughout, often in a mode that mixes bluesy phrasings with a raspier folk style, a package made all the more excellent thanks to the mix of acoustic and fuzzed-out electric guitars; these are heavy on dark-edged phrasings, and they really give the record a spooky feel, one that some people have likened to being almost folk/funk at times! Production is simple, but somehow heavenly, floating with a brilliance crafted from a very few simple elements; one of those rare perfect moments of studio magic CD $8 SKU:5964

ROCKET TO MEMPHIS-JUNGLE JUICE- (Female fronted rockabilly ) IMPORTLabel:OFF THE HIP Female fronted rockabilly from perth. Wielding a distinctive, off-kilter take on rockabilly, swamp & garage rock n roll, ROCKET TO MEMPHIS left audiences in a state of dishevelment in cities as far-flung as London and Tokyo. For their 4th album, the band has once again worked with Matt Verta-Ray (Jon Spencer's Heavy Trash) and it buzzes with an intensity that reflects the New York hurricane conditions in which it was mixed! “Do The Crawl” invites you on a hip-dislocating ride through a fresh batch of infectious tunes and wild sounds. From the irresistible “GoGo” - a rock n roll stomper which opens the album, Betty Bombshell and the gang drag you through rockabilly ("Turn It On"), Diddley-esque swamp ("Swamp Guy"), the sexy "In Black and White" and finish up with "Rockin' All Night" - which you surely will be if you follow this simple 11 step programme! CD $6 SKU:19237

ROSS DE CHENE HURRICANES- LOWLIGHTS (GARAGE PUNK) -Label:OFF THE HIP Eddy Current Suppression Ring styled rock from Melbourne” With their tough-as-nails garage rock attack, Ross De Chene Hurricanes proudly celebrate the tradition of garage punk. You can hear the attitude in the Black Lips-ish ‘Sun Don’t Set When You’re Cool’ – what’s youth for if you can’t muscle through the toughest situation with a bulletproof sneer and a casual wink? Then there’s the specious culinary analysis of ‘TV Dinner’, all post-Ramones simplicity and domestic banality; the Digger and The Pussycats-like introverted pop psychology of ‘Personality Disorder’; and the King Khan-inspired career counselling of ‘In A Rut’. CD $5 SKU:19250

SALEM’S POT- LURAR UT DIG (STONER PSYCH)Label:RIDING EASY Mired in drug-derived riffing and classic horror/exploitation ambience, Swedish four-piece Salem’s Pot have plenty of scummer groove in common with Electric Wizard on their debut, …Lurar ut dig på prärien, but if worshiping at the altar of Sabbath and drawn-out fuzz was a crime, we’d all have been put to death years ago. Their reverential depravity comes through in the three extended tracks, “Creep Purple” (14:28), “Dr. Death” (9:52) and “Nothing Hill” (9:12), and the album unfolds in a haze of degenerate psychedelia. CD $12 SKU:18827

SCOTT KEY -This Forest and the Sea ( (rare private press 1976 loner folk/psych6)Label:LION Excellent 1976 private press acoustic album, self-recorded at various places in Colorado, and filled with beautiful fingerstyle acoustic guitar, plus some atonal bottleneck slide, string scrapes and drones (at times, very Ry Cooder/“Paris, Texas” about six years before that soundtrack existed). Although almost completely instrumental, what lyrics there are tend towards the dark and the satiric. The obvious points of comparison are John Fahey and Leo Kottke, although Scott Key certainly has his own presence and style, differences in tone and color and attack, which he attributes to his background in rock bands. Overall, there is a brooding, loner folk/psych feel, most evident on the phenomenal, effects-heavy, almost 11-minute long title track, ‘This Forest and the Sea.’ "I was coming to terms with what it mean to exist… and saw the world in pure black and white—there was no room for grey,” Key said. “I saw an American Culture devoid of any understanding of its place in the universe, how we learn nothing save what we see on television, how our existence is tainted by intellectual laziness, and how our gift of life is defiled by the taking of it." This deluxe 180-gram vinyl LP edition of “This Forest and the Sea” comes with an insert which sports engaging, funny, and insightful notes by Key, photos, plus the text to poem that inspired the title track; as a nod to the forest, the insert is printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. A very rare album that seems to have flown under almost everyone’s radar—although thankfully not Doug McGowan’s (Yoga Records), who sent this our way. One record collector said to us, and we now say to you: “Have a listen because this rates up there with classics by Bob Desper, Perry Leopold, Robbie Basho, and Phil Yost, with dark moods similar to John Fahey and Nick Drake. CD $10 SKU:20017

GAIETY RECORDS STORY- VOL.2 (Rare 60s garage, punk & psych singles) SALE! Label:PACEMAKER At last, a second collection of rare singles from the label that produced the cream of the mid-sixties crop of Canadian garage, punk, and psychedelic music! The Gaiety roster was rich in talent (the 49th Parallel, Jarvis Street Review, and Souls of Inspyration, not to mention the Checkerlads, White Knights, Dewline, Tomorrow's Keepsake, NRG, Merriday Park, and Portland Street South)—but it was not rich in resources, which is why these singles are so incredibly rare. This second Gaiety Records volume has twenty-four tracks in all, ranging from the ferocious punk psych of Solid Reputation’s ‘Lies’ to the wonderfully druggy (and truly demented) ‘Ode to a Cucumber, A Berry, and A Flower", a song that deserves to be in the pantheon of weird psychedelia right alongside the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band’s ‘Help, I’m a Rock’. NRG’s UK psych-inspired ‘Magic Man,’ much in demand in collector’s circles, is here in all its glory—along with six other tracks by this underrated band, including the psychedelic groover ‘Withcraft’. Other highlights are four more terrific beat/pop songs from the Plague and Lexington Avenue (bands who would become better known later as Jarvis Street Review). Tracks by the Checkerlads, Tomorrow's Keepsake, Flying Colours, Portland Street South, round out the disc, and (we hope) bring pleasure to everyone. COMP CD $10 SKU:16069

SCHNITZELBEAT Vol 2 -You Are The Only One (Raw Teenage Beat & Garage Rock Anthems From Austria 1964-1970) Label:DIGATON Raw Teenage Beat And Garage Rock Anthems From Austria 1964-1970'. The artists compiled on this collection translate the air of unrestrained abandon transported by the newly emerging popular genres into their own, locally flavored idiom: Teenage Beat and Garage Rock made in Austria, 1964-1970. Presenting internationally operating epigones of Austrian underground sound of the 1960s (THE SLAVES, THE GAMBLERS) alongside recently re-discovered trailblazers of independent production (THE LOST GENERATION, THE EARLS), 'Schnitzelbeat Vol. 2' is the first compilation of its kind to pay respect to the wilder side of home-grown Austrian teenage sound of the 1960s in all its diversity. You'll find instro rock smashers, beat ballads, straight-up rhythm'n'blues pieces, jangling, folksy harmonies, savage proto-punk blowouts, and, of course, the off-the-wall appropriations of well-known international beat hits that often provided ambitious amateurs with the jump-start they needed to get their own sound up and running. COMP LP $22 SKU:16877

SICKSVILLE-VOL. 1 (tittyshakers to whip, whop, wobble and grind to) 10”-Label:STAG-O-LEE (GERMANY) First of two 10"s called 'Sicksville', compiled by Stay Sick!, a gruesome twosome of deejays from the nightclubs of Brighton, UK. Greasy battered platters of wax, with honkin' saxes and hammond organs blasting outta the speakers like there's no tomorrow. Hit the go-go cage for some tittyshakers to whip, whop, wobble and grind to. COMP LP $17 SKU:19094

RESTOCKS AND DISCOUNTS!

ROBBIE AND THEWEREWOLF- Live at the Waleback (Bizarre 1964 monster inspired oddity)-Label:GEAR FAB OK, so here we have one of the weirdest and most bizarre albums ever recorded. Pretty much unsurpassed in its level of incredible strangeness, this ultra-rare album from the early sixties (1964) California coffee- house circuit is like no other. Robbie is a folksinger of the frantic variety with a fetish for monsters. This inspired some of the most bizarre songs ever committed to vinyl. It was at The Wale Back in LA one heady night in 1964, that Robbie's solo act was captured for posterity by engineer Reice Hamel, now renowned as a pioneer of live recording techniques. The patrons lapped up Robbie's act although some of the more faint-hearted may have experienced a frisson of terror as he prowled amongst them, sweat dripping from his beard, laughing maniacally, during his atmospheric 'Dracula' number. With his long red hair and matching beard, Robbie was a striking performer with a manic stage presence, acting out his songs as much as singing them. His set consisted of his original songs and uniquely reworked versions of folk standards, played on a beat-up twelve-string guitar. Robbie would later join The Brain Train in 1967 and his wife Barbara “Sandi” Robison would become the lead vocalist for The Peanut Butter Conspiracy (PBC) . Featuring liner notes from Alan Brackett of The PBC and UK collector extraordinaire Gray Newell. CD $10 SKU:19459

ROBBS Before, Then & After (3xCD + DVD-four discs total)-Label:WET WORLD RECORDS (USA) This four-disc set contains 55 tracks and five video appearances by the Robbs, covering the bands entire recording career. With so much music on offer, a hearty helping of band history seems to be in order. Musically, the Robbs were noted for their use of harmony vocals, and instrumentation-clearly inspired by folk-rock, bubblegum music, and jangle pop. Great stuff-and a real labor of love for the label. Spotted by Dick Clark, the band was signed to Mercury Records in 1966, and moved to California to appear as regular performers on Where The Action Is during late 1966 and early 1967, replacing Paul Revere and the Raiders. The Robbs had some regional success between 1966 and 1970, at first for Mercury and subsequently for a variety of record labels. The Robbs have the distinction of placing the most singles on Billboard magazine's "Bubbling Under" chart (five as The Robbs, plus a final single as Cherokee) without ever once crossing over into the Billboard Hot 100 (ouch!). The Robbs were never able to garner a true nation-wide hit. Their lone album, from 1967, was compiled from the A-side and B-sides of their 1966 and 1967 singles, along with two new tracks. This self-titled LP made the Billboard 200 chart for one week in January 1968, peaking at #200, and the band was shortly thereafter dropped by Mercury Records. Upon signing to Atlantic in 1968, The Robbs pursued a more country rock orientation. After their two Atlantic singles missed even the "bubbling under" charts, Atlantic let the band go, and they were picked up by ABC/Dunhill in 1969. The Robbs continued to release singles for this label, with the usual regional success and some "bubbling under" appearances, but no national breakthrough. In 1971, the group changed their name to Cherokee, and re-emphazised their country rock influenced sound. They released one self-titled album as Cherokee, as well as the 1971 non-LP single "Girl, I've Got News For You". Both the album and the single featured the participation of Chris Hillman of The Byrds. CD $24 SKU:20194

RODD , KEITH - Saucers in the Sky (obscure 70s pop genius) - Label:ROARATRODD , KEITH ORIO It would be inaccurate to call this a collection of forgotten pop classics. Forgotten implies that they were known in the first place. "Beyond the weird lyrics, many of the songs on Saucers In The Sky are just wonderful pop songs, with great melodies and strange, unexpected chord progressions... whereas most song-poems sound like the rush jobs they usually were, Keith's are surprisingly detailed, with weird production ideas, verses and choruses that actually make sense together, and good performances...a virtuosic songwriter. - Charlie Wilmoth, CD $8 SKU:14222

Rodney and The Blazers- COMPLETE RECORDINGS 1962- 65 surf/frat/pop band - Label:GEAR FAB From Coffeyville, Kansas, this great surf/frat/pop band released over 8 45s on the Kampus label between 1962-1965, including the National charting "Teenage Cinderella". They toured extensively with both Bill Haley & The Comets as well as Jerry Lee Lewis!!! All their 45s, unreleased studio and acetates...the complete collection!! CD $10 SKU:20325

ROGER & WENDY- Love Rog + Wem (60s US psych folk) deluxe mini-LP sleeve - Label:LION The Roger & Wendy Love Rog & Wem album is a alluring collection of shimmering psych-folk gems, and is the rarest of the duo's records (fetching $900+). A superb artifact from the early 1970s underground psych folk scene, taken from the original master tapes, and using the original sleeve artwork for this deluxe mini-LP sleeve reissue. Booklet has photos, great stories, and five bonus tracks, too! CD $10 SKU:12014

ROMANOS,GEORGE- Two Small Blue Horses (1970 Greek heavy fpsych fuzz guitar) -Label:LYRA (Greece) If you like the thought of songs overrun by heavy fuzz guitars and immersed in studio effects, then this is an album for you! It’s a record (released by Zodiac in 1970) that bears comparison to the first three Erkin Koray albums, in part due to it’s Middle-Eastern psychedelic intensity; really great stuff—exotic melodies coupled with a full-force fuzz assault; a slight nod to the Byrds (‘Eight Miles High’ riff makes a dramatic appearance), but with baroque pop/psych tracks of a Left Banke type (‘Maria’ springs to mind) thrown in for added spice. Infused throughout with Greek-tinged raga fuzz guitar freakouts that float in and out of orchestrated psychy pop, "Two Small Blue Horses" is a gem of an album that should be in any serious European psych collection. To top it all, this is one of the rarest psychedelic records ever pressed, with original copies changing hands from time to time for more than $1,000. Great sounding reissue of a weird and wonderful record. CD $8 SKU:21051

ROOSEVELT SYKES/VICTORIA SPIVEY -- Grind It ( RARE 70s ALIVE RECORDS Detroit blues RELEASE ) SAALE - Label:ALIVE Two legendary giants of the blues captured live at the 1973 Ann Arbor Blues & Jazz Festival. The release includes booklet with comprehensive liner notes plus rare & unreleased photos. CD $5 SKU:2222

ROTOMAGUS - The Sky Turns Red: Complete Anthology(1971 protopunk) Label:LION On Julian Cope’s excellent Head Heritage web-site, the Seth Man raves about Rotomagus thus: “The first time I heard this track (‘Fighting C*ck’), I did not freak out. I merely walked into a nearby closet and screamed my head off for a minute solid, beat the floor and ripped my t-shirt... then I cowered when it hit me: this thing came out in 1971? Before “Raw Power”?! I just lost my mind... The only thing that predates this monster in terms of being a full-on amassing of all things heavy are all the many key points on Sir Lord Baltimore’s “Kingdom Come” LP and THAT’S it, brother. Hard to believe this is all pre-1971, as much of the demo is not just proto punk but proto hardc*re—with enough fiery attitude to make you want to scream along. The vocals are wild, while the guitar riffs and grinds and approaches a Stooges via Motorhead apocalyptic grandeur. Amazing! CD $10 SKU:14512

ROTTERS - Wrench to the Nuts Vol 78( Old School CLASSIC PUNK!) Label:DIONYSUS Old school, classic punk rock with all its crude, rude, politically wrong offensiveness and raw energy intact! This brutal 19 song onslaught is packed with new material and a few retoolings of ROTTERS classics. CD $3 SKU:19741

RUINERS - How's That Grab Ya? This is rock 'n' roll (Cramps/Munsters style! ) Label:DISASTER ave a slice of classicist influenced Garage&B. One part Cramps (and their attendant influence on the non-purist rockabilly/roots hoo-ha in the '80s), one part Munsters/Groovie Ghoulies (the TV shows), one part smeared make-up Ronettes, one part other stuff from their Detroit environs around '66 and it's fallout on the record's co-producer, Mick Collins. Picks to hit, the female sung, "Ghost Pains," and "M'girl Left With You." - Lollipop Magazine CD $5 SKU:2283

RUNAWAYS -JAPANESE SINGLES COLLECTION-Label:CHERRY RED he first CD-collection of The Runaways' Japanese singles. The CD features all of the band's highly collectable Japanese picture cover single sleeves, lyrics, discography and sleeve notes. The CD also offers two bonus tracks, the UK single 'Right Now' and its B-side 'Black Leather'. This was the band's final single release. CD $15 SKU:19673

SAMMY MASTERS- EVERYBODY DIGS (50s Rockabilly legend,)-Label:DIONYSUS The groundbreaking return of '50s Rockabilly legend, responsible for songs like "Pink Cadillac" and "Some Like It Hot!" This new recording has Sammy returning to his roots with an all-star line up featuring Skip Heller, Ray Campi, and Deke Dickerson. CD $3 SKU:19813

SAN UL LIM THE FIRST CD (1977 psych power pop garage ) - Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (Korea) Gentle garage psych with a dreamy west coast flair and tons of awesome fuzzed out guitars with lyrics in Korean language. It clearly sounds like the best psychedelic power pop and garage stuff you could get in the UK and USA ten years earlier, a typical 1966 garage sound with fuzzy axes and some thin but sympathetic Farfisa organs. They released this debut album back in 1977 while the compositions actually have been conceived from 1971 to 1975. They heavily remind of The Zombies. Even though San Ul Lim play in a way more direct fashion, they do have these heartwarming vocal melodies and are all in all gifted players. Other acts we could take as references are The Flies (UK, Pre-T2) or The Petards (Germany). A lovely flashback to the golden age of music.. CD $10 SKU:16721

SANDHY & MANDHY - Para Castukis (70s psych w Zombie's like vocals and fuzz guitar) Label:LION Alberto Infusino (Sandhy) and Alberto Vanasco (Mandhy) began their musical partnership in beat bands The New Free Men and La Máquina de Música. In 1969, Billy Bond, chief of La Pesada del Rock Roll and legendary major domo of Argentine rock, asked them to prepare a demo as a duo. Instead, they recorded an album (in three hours!) with a full band (Farfisa organ, congas, drums, bass, and guitars): one take of each song. They decided to press the record—only 110 LPs were made, making this album the ultimate Argentine rock rarity. Sandhy & Mandhy were among the first in South America to bring a rebellious attitude to their music—all this in a period of military repression, when forced haircuts (and brutality) in the streets were a common occurrence. The simmering, intense ‘La indeferencia los pone mal’ (Indifference Upsets Them), was an important protest song, possibly the first from South America. Every word demonstrates the strong concern that Sandhy & Mandhy felt about the repressions they experienced every day: "Like little birds, we will have to fight/against all who want to change us with stones/why do they have to be so cruel/or is that indifference upsets them/I do not know what they want, to teach us morals/they should clean first their consciences/and then we will talk." In the end, Bond said that Sandhy & Mandhy sounded too much like a band (not a duo), so success was not their fate. But now through the magic of reissues, you can check out their groovy, organ-driven melancholy psych, with Zombies-ish harmony vocals, a little touch of bossa, and other treats (that fuzz guitar on the excellent Os Mutantes-esque 'Lluvia'!). There are artistic ambitions too, with tape edits/inserts very unusual in an album of the era. At times introspective and acoustic, at others manic and ramshackle in the best way, it's quite a discovery. This CD companion to our deluxe LP edition (LION LP-105) has an additional five tracks. The 28-page booklet has the full Sandhy & Mandhy story, plenty of photos, and lyrics in Spanish and English; i CD $10 SKU:13276

SATWA-Lailson, Lula Côrtes (1973 Brazilian Folk trance gems)Label:TIME LAG Written, recorded and released just as Brazil's military dictatorship reached the climax of its long black arc, the one and only album by Satwa is a divinely subtle protest. Now reissued for the first time, Satwa, often cited as Brazil's first independent record, is a mellow starburst of acoustic jangle. Formed after the return of Lula Côrtes and Lailson from their respective foreign excursions (the former home after the requisite Moroccan sojourn, the latter a young long-hair back from the States), Satwa lasted only a year, perhaps due to their differing stripes. But for 11 days in January 1973 the pair jammed cross-legged and produced the folk trance gems that adorn this self-titled debut. At a time when censors caused newspapers to run cake recipes on their front pages in place of rejected news stories, Lailson only lets the occasional throat drone slip through his lips. Largely void of voice and word, the songs (Côrtes plucking steely leads from his sitar while Lailson's 12-string thrums crystalline chords) are loose and lovely. The sole interference in these glistening arabesques is the hoary electric fretwork Robertinho on ‘Blues do Cachorro Muito Louco,’ the most explicitly fried track. Otherwise, Côrtes and Lailson are left to experiment in musty silence. Seemingly taped live, each track is a dry documentation of the duo's gently rambling improvisations. Far from the recombinant psychedelia of tropicalismo that reigned over the pre-hippie underground in Brazil's bustling metropolises five years earlier, Satwa play bed peace bards. In double-mono, or fake stereo, Satwa is raw, untreated mentalism translated into pure songflow. At times exhausted and dusty – ‘Atom,’ or archaically splendorous (‘Valse Dos Cogumelos’), the duo's spiraling scrolls etched in rustic timbres unfurl gracefully. Satwa is a quiet triumph.” —Bernardo Rondeau, Dusted. The CD version is identical to the out of print LP version, only smaller—it comes in a mini LP style sleeve, with folded insert. SAWYER, PHIL - CHILDHOOD'S END (70S PSYCH) - Label:GUERRSON A magical discovery from the downunder 70s psychedelic scene. Phil Sawyer's 1971 album "Childhood's end", originally released in Australia on the Sweet Peach label, remains pretty unknown yet to most of collectors around. No justice. This is a wonderful album that will please anyone into psychedelia, rock and folk. Totally electric, great production, great songwriting, warm uneducated voice by Phil himself that gives a slight looser feel to it at times. The album contains some fantastic mid-tempo psychedelic folk-rock ballads, and the song that gives name to the album is an incredible slice of pure psychedelia with lots of tasty psychedelic sound effects. This is a very rare and collectable item in original (Hans Pokora gives 5 discs to it in his books). This first ever reissue is licensed from the original label and the sound was taken from the mastertapes. CD comes in a slipcase. CD $12 SKU:20279

SCHIBBINZ - Livin Free (rare 1967 Argentine garage ) - Label:GUERSSEN Previously released on vinyl, now available in a CD version. In 1967, a bunch of U.S. and Argentinean kids recorded a magical album which has remained unknown for many years due to its extreme rarity, with less than a handful of copies known to exist. Released in 1968 in Argentina by Phonexa, the Schibbinz album could be regarded as the ultimate teen garage folk-rock album, ever. An album of fragile beauty, full of teen charm, innocent vocals, jangly guitars, charming, lo-fi sound and a lost-in-time atmosphere. Guerssen Records is proud to present this mega-rare album to the world, with the production fully benefitting from the band's involvement and assistance. The original master tapes were lost, but the sound has been carefully-remastered from an original near-mint copy. Extensive, detailed liner-notes and lots of cool pictures from the band's archives are all included in a 4-page insert. Also includes 3 unreleased bonus tracks not available on the vinyl version. SEASONS & LOS WALKERS- Liverpool at Buenos Aires (1966 rarest of Argentine rock) Label:Circolo Del Disco "The Seasons" arrived in 1965, when they recorded a single for the Microfon label. Then in 1966 they recorded an LP with their own compositions, sung in English. The founder members of The Seasons were Carlos Mellino (later in Alma y Vida) and Alejandro Medina (from Manal). The band’s sound was very much influenced by the three biggest bands in South America—Los Shakers, Los Mockers, and Los Walkers—in other words, Seasons had a real 1960’s South American beat band sound. This production includes the band’s only single as a bonus, and includes extended text about that era. Collectors from around the globe search for the original single and LP by Los Seasons. In the "Record Collectors Dreams 1001" book, the Seasons LP is included among the rarest of Argentine rock. Never before on CD. CD $16 SKU:20347

EASTERN PA ROCK - PART l - 61-66 ( 60s garage ) w 40 page booklet! -Label:ARF ARF During the first half of the '60s, a young entrepreneur by the name of Clay Barclay had the foresight and vision to capture Hamburg to Pottsville's prolific and bustling music scene. All 32 tracks on Eastern PA Rock--Part One were recorded in his "Mr Wizard" approved recording studio (also doubling as his parents' living room and basement) centrally located in Orwigsburg. Later he teamed up with established music industry types and relocated his facility to Reading, where he experienced a second wind of activity which has been resurrected on Part Two [1966-'69] of this reissue series. No overproduced pop schlock here--this stuff is RAW, CRUDE and BARE TO THE BONE. Absolutely essential if you loathe Fabian and the Four Seasons but go frantic over Link and "Louie Louie." All this and more documented on one 78+ minute CD wrapped in an archival fact-filled 40-page bookletKickin' off this 32-track retrospective are six songs from legend Chuck Barr, the region's undisputed grandpappy of R'n'R. (His "Joe Botch" is an ode to exploited teenage coal laborers everywhere.) Highlights abound with the Ramrods "War Party" (a Billy Miller Top 10 personal fave), five cuts by the Triumphs (including their rompin' unissued "Triumphs Theme"), hot rockabilly from Richie & The Rebels, plus brutally honest tracks from the Starlites, Wayne & The Impressions, Jaguars and Joey & The Prophets. Five WKBA radio promos (Barclay's clandestine confederate ten-watt station that broadcast from the bowels of his folk's house) by the Mistics, bring you back to an era when AM was more than a compliment to PM. EMBER POP 69-74- VA Rainy Day Mind (60s) -Label:FANTASTIC VOYAGE Rainy Day Mind” is the first of two volumes surveying Ember’s pop repertoire from 1969 until the label’s demise at the end of the seventies. It comprises 21 tracks by artists ranging from obscure American singer Polly Niles to the internationally famous P J Proby, as well as ill-fated actor Alan Lake, Irish vocalist Lee Lynch, French pop star Black Swan and fuzz guitar-toting soul band Milt Matthews Inc. A clutch of projects including The Good Vibrations, The Good Ship Lollipop and Rusty Harness came to Ember courtesy of producer Mike Berry. The founding of US outlet Paramount-Ember in 1974, headed by music business veteran John Madara, brought albums by Denny Doherty (formerly of The Mamas And The Papas) and British all-girl glam rockers Mother Trucker into the fold. What these disparate sources all offer are fine performances of strong songs. Nor is there any shortage of collectables, topped by Davey Payne & The Medium Wave’s ‘A Walk In The Sunshine,’ which commands £50, and Blue Beard’s eponymous album, which only reached test pressing stage (£200), from which we have salvaged ‘Baby I Need You.’ Nice shrink-wrapped slip-case packaging COMP CD $6 SKU:16376

GAME FOR ALL WHO KNOW -The H & F Recordings 5 Box SET! (includes: Agincourt, Ithaca, Alive Through the Looking Glass, Tomorrow Come Someday, Friends)Label:GRAPEFRUIT Between 1968 and 1974, amateur songwriters, musicians and home taping enthusiasts Peter Howell and John Ferdinando – aka H & F Recordings – retreated to their makeshift home studio in East Sussex to mastermind a series of privately-issued albums that were attributed to semi-fictitious groups such as Ithaca and Agincourt. Only pressed in double-digit quantities, those albums are now amongst the most valuable vinyl artefacts of the era, with copies selling for upwards of £2,000 on the extremely rare occasions that they surface. "A Game For All Who Know: The H & F Recordings Box" gathers together all four albums and adds an unreleased-at-the-time fifth, the Friends LP “Fragile," which was abandoned at acetate stage after Howell accepted an invitation in 1974 to join the BBC Radiophonic Workshop on a full-time basis. The first four albums are presented in miniature card sleeve replicas of the original vinyl artwork, while the Friends album recreates the duo’s original plans for the artwork had the LP reached pressing stage. Taken from the original master tapes, and with a lavish booklet that features a new 7000-word essay on their activities, fresh interview quotes and previously unpublished photos, "A Game For All Who Know" collects a fascinating and body of work.” COMP CD $29 SKU:21304

GRAVEYARD TRAMPS EAT THE FORBIDDEN - Vol.1 CITY DOGFOOD obscure rockabilly, surf and R&B tracks)- Label:TUTMAN ..CITY DOGFOOD' - Nearly 30 years ago, a now legendary LP by the name of 'Forbidden City Dogfood' was unleashed on an unsuspecting public. The release on Vip Vop Recs spawned many imitators such as 'Wavy Gravy', '4 Hairy Policemen' et al and paved the way for the equally legendary 'Purple Knif Show'. What few folk knew was that 'Forbidden City Dogfood' was actually less than half of the compilation made by Lux Interior. Now, for the very first time, the entire recording is available, weighing in at well over an hour of crazy, whacky sounds from the Maestro of Mad himself. Remastered from the original source, these obscure rockabilly, surf and R&B tracks are interspersed with B-movie trailer clips and wigged out voice overs. GROOVE CLUB 1- Le Confisierie Magique (60s psych/pop rarities! ) - Label:LION Fabrice, 17 years old, is a minet, or to say it better, a mod from one of the posh neighbourhoods, the 16th district in Paris and such “golden ghettoes” as Auteuil, Neuilly and Passy. Fab’ likes to have his “ronron at the Dugstore”, as Dutronc sang it (an untranslatable wordplay on ronron, “cat food”, and a minet – “a kitten” – purring). Fabrice attends Henri IV prestigious high-school; his father, a businessman who made a fortune selling plastic flowers, and his mother, a former model from Jacques Fath, are never home – a cosy home indeed! With his Weston shoes, a slim-fitting suit by Renoma and his haircut modelled on those of Anglo-Saxons musicians appearing on French Eps, Fabrice dreams of Carnaby Street and the Sunset Strip. GROOVE CLUB 2- VA Cambodia Rock Spectactular 70s rock w 36 page booklet w photos -Label:LION Packaged in a deluxe casebook with a 36-page booklet filled with rare photos and the heart-wrenching stories of the most beloved artists in the Khmer Rock movement . Most of these tracks were recorded live, with traditional instruments finding a place alongside any keyboards or guitars that could be found. And yet, it was these experiments of Khmer rock musicians which transformed the nightlife of the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh—and which many years later have seduced countless listeners around the world with their groovy sound. Alas, in 1975 came an entirely different type of transformation: the rise to power in Cambodia of the fanatical, anti-Western Khmer Rouge, led by Pol Pot. Within roughly four years, implementing their “concept of Year Zero,” Pot and his regime were responsible for the deaths of an estimated two million Cambodians, many in the notorious “killing fields.” Even the most famous and beloved Khmer musicians could not escape. Sinn Sisamouth (“the Emperor of Khmer Music”), Ros Sereysothea (“The Golden Voice of the Royal Capital”), and Pan Ron—all featured on this collection—met their deaths at the hands of the Khmer Rouge. Cambodian rock music is (rightfully) adored in Cambodia. The music is wild and anarchic, rhythmic and undulating (in an “Ethiopiques” way, we’d say), or sweet and lyrical, but always moving, and with that deep soulfulness (regardless of actual musical genre or style) that singles out the best music. We have assembled what we consider to be the most definitive collection of classic Cambodian rock music to appear thus far—without the later overdubs that confuse the mind, without the artificial speeding up of tracks that often has marred compilations over the years; what you’ll find here are crucial Khmer rock tracks, made available in the best possible sound, assembled with love and respect for the artists who made the Khmer rock scene as thrilling as we find it to be. And so, without further ado, welcome to “Cambodia Rock Spectactular!” COMP CD $10 SKU:12985

GUILLOTINED AT THE HANGAR- Shielded by Death Vol 2 (rare and raging punk r 79-84 KBD style) -Label:DIONYSUS In the spirit of the Killed By Death series, about two years ago, a great late 70s, early 80s comp called Shielded by Death appeared on Germany’s Incognito label. Compiler Keith Grave has come up with yet another collection of rare and raging punk rock from ’79 through ’84 from Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. Bacchus Archives presents present 20 tracks of primal American punk, featuring some names you might have heard of (Jack Tragic, Chronic Disorder, 8th Route Army, The Foreign Objects) and, unless you lived in the region we’ve focused on, may not have heard of. This doesn’t matter. The entire comp is a treat to fans of old punk rock and we’ll equate this to some of our regional 60s comps such as The East Side Sound and Legend City. COMP CD $5 SKU:-19019

HERE’S TO OLD ENGLAND-An Artpop Sampler (Great UK ROCK)-Label:ARTPOP "Edward Ball is the second best songwriter in Britain today," Noel Gallagher said with customary humility; "A modernist musical alchemist," said Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine—and no wonder, as several tracks here could have been from early MBV EP releases; "Ed Ball is one of my favorite songwriters in the world,' Alan McGhee (Creation Records). This compilation features the work of Ed (ward) Ball, prolific songwriter who has released nearly twenty albums under various guises over the years (including being co-founder of Television Personalities, and a part time member of the Boo Radleys). This unique compilation contains some of the best loved tracks by the Times, Teenage Filmstars and O Level as well as a version of 'Love Is Blue' which charted in the Top 75 in 1997. IGL ROCK STORY - VA PART 1 ( Iowa 60s garage pop ) - Label:ARF ARF IGL is an acronym for the Iowa Great Lakes Recording Studio, the first one in that state. When the studio/record label scored big with Dee Jay and the Runaways' "Peter Rabbit" (included here along with other early tracks by the group) after leasing it to a major label, the bands came from all over the state and beyond, hoping lightning would strike for them too. On this sumptuous collection of 31 tracks we hear the first fruits of such studio recordings, capturing the more notable bands from 1965 to 1967. The IGL studio had a crude, echoey sound that made drums sound enormous and vocals reverberate all over the place, but as a scrapbook of the studio's early days and Iowa's mid-'60s output, this collection is invaluable.
