NEW ARRIVALS

FARR, GARY- Take Something With You (60s Psych/Folk ) -Label:SUNBEAM This double CD set marks the long-overdue first reissue of Gary Farrs classic 1969 solo debut, one of the best and rarest singer-songwriter albums to emerge from the UK underground. Having torn up innumerable R&B clubs with the T-Bones, by the late 1960s Farr had gone in a more pastoral, progressive direction. A superb set of reflective acid-tinged ballads, the album finds his soulful voice ably backed by his 12-string guitar and supporting musicians including members of Mighty Baby and the Blossom Toes, as well as Meic Stevens. Its presented here together with a plethora of non-LP 45s and previously-unheard demos, as well as a booklet featuring rare photographs, historical liner notes and personal memoirs from Meic Stevens and Farrs long-term partner, Carinthia West. CD $17 SKU:24457

MAINLINER- DUAL MYTHS (Japanese psych rock) Label:RIOT SEASON The follow-up to the superb Japanese psych rock band's 2013 comeback album 'Revelation Space' has been rumoured for many years. And we're back to calling them just Mainliner once again! (F.y.i., 'Revelation Space' was credited to Kawabata Makoto's Mainliner.) CD $19 SKU:24209

NEW CHRISTS-THESE RAGS:PEDESTRAL/WOE BETIDELabel:CITADEL Always lo-fi in the production department, the Pedestal EP and Woe Betide mini-album releases have finally been remixed and given a new spartan packaging to celebrate the occasion. This is as good as it gets and it's pretty good. This 2002 compilation features 2 of their finest moments, the 'Pedestal' EP and the 'Woe Betide' EP, which are long deleted. CD $17 SKU:24388

BLACK PYRAMID-ST (STONER PSYCH)Limited edition of 200 numbered copies on brown vinyl. Label:HEADSPIN Black Pyramid play doom with the rumbling down-tuned tones of stoner metal gods, but with the epic arrangements of old school metal and doom acts. Add to the sonic brew perfectly executed forays into vintage psych and progressive rock, along with the apocalyptic lyrical ravings about war, the occult, and general alienation, and you've got an accurate picture of what the band is all about. Labyrinth Of Thoughts Records are reissuing the band's self-titled album, a true gem of the metal scene which has been out of print and unavailable for many years now. It was originally released via MeteorCity and Electric Earth in 2009 and Headspin in 2012. Limited edition of 200 numbered copies on brown vinyl. Includes vinyl bonus track 'Macedonia'. LP $32 SKU:24371

MANCO,BARIS-DUNDEN BUGUNE (Turkish psych legend) PICTURE DISC ltd to 500-Label:GUERSSEN The 1971 debut-LP by the Turkish psych legend gets reissued as a stunning PICTURE DISC LP in an edition of 500 copies. LP $34 SKU:24402

NIGHT SHADOW-THE SQUARE ROOT OF TWO(1969 Atlanta garage/psych early singles) Label:AUDIO CLARITY Atlanta-based garage rock band Night Shadow endured a shape-shifting evolution. Early singles recorded for independent labels made little impact, but a contract with Baja Records led to recording of 'The Square Roots Of Two', their sole long-player, released in 1968. With sped-up vocals, phased guitar, backwards tape effects and spoken commentary, the album had strong psychedelic leanings applied to their bluesy, hard-edged garage rock; the group's implosion in 1969 ensured the rarity of this overlooked gem. LP $22 SKU:24268

WYLDE TRYFLES -FUZZED AND CONFUSED (ultra-fuzzed '60s garage-punk, full of snotty garage vocals)Label:SOUNDFLAT The Wylde Tryfles sound wild and out of control, playing their modern take on ultra-fuzzed '60s garage-punk, full of snotty garage vocals, screams, back from the grave vibes and hypnotic dangerous beats. The sound of their LP 'Fuzzed And Confused' is a continuous wave of influences from '60s and '80s garage punk era, such as The Shadows Of Knight, Count Five, The Cynics, The Tell-Tale Hearts, The Pandoras and The Sonics. LP $24 SKU:24432

SAALE,REMINDERS AND RESTOCKS

A CID SYMPHONY - VA (108 Minutes of fweirdness! folk-psych, rock, jazz, and more. DBL Label:GEAR FAB Mortgage your house for an original version of the LP, or buy the Gear Fab Double CD The 1967 classic triple LP recorded at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley .108 Minutes of folk-psych, rock, jazz, acoustic mellowness, flamenco guitar, and other improvisational styles which reflected the order of its day and their association with The Free Speech Movement, The Diggers, The Monterey Pop Festival, and The San Francisco Human-Be-ins. Off the Master Tapes and with liners by none other than the Producer himself: Dustin Mark Miller. Includes Three bonus tracks CD $10 SKU:22020

CHILDREN - Rebirth (TEXAS PSYCH 1968)Label:GEAR FAB Great psych from Texas band who released only one classic album in ‘68. Starting out as Stoics back in 66, they evolved into Mind's Eye. Inc all their 45's as Stoics, Mind’s Eye and Children lp from ‘68 plus more unre material as Children from 1969-1970. 77 min. 26 tracks. From master tapes CD $10 SKU:18657

CRYSTAL SYPHON- FAMILY EVIL/ ELEPHANT BALL (SF 60s)Label:GEAR FAB Comes in an old-style “tip-on” jacket with a digital download. Plying their trade in the fertile San Francisco scene of the late '60s, Crystal Syphon's name was only known to aficionados through viewing copies of old SF gig posters and through the index of bands at the back of Ralph Gleason's book on the rise of Jefferson Airplane. Then both their studio and live 1967-1969 archival recordings were discovered that replaced the imagination with true grooves in 2012 and 2015 with the release of 2 LPs on Roaratorio Records. Trying to find comparison with other Bay area bands from that era has proven a bit fruitless as they don't specifically evoke any of the heavy hitters of the era. They have a bit of a dreamy, stoned vibe with some great harmonies and some have compared their style to Quicksilver Messenger Service (John Cipollina was their idol!!) as well as H.P. Lovecraft. As with so many bands of the era, the draft, time and declining fortunes signaled the end of the band. There is some great guitar work alongside the Farfisa organ in the extended jams, and fans of the west-coast sound should delight in these recordings. CD $14 SKU:23863

FAPARDOKLY- ST (60s pop, jangly folk-rock, psych)-Label:GEAR FAB Fapardokly is probably regarded as the most important release in Merrell Fankhausers long career, and an absolute collectors item. The band recorded about 30 tracks in a small studio in Palmdale, California, from 1965 to 1967, when the owner of the studio decided to release an album with some of these tracks. With such different recording dates, you find here different sounds..organ-ized 60s pop, jangly folk-rock, psychedelia. CD $10 SKU:18663

KEYES -ST Louisville Music Series #7 (mid 60s psych rock) Label:GEAR FAB The Seventh Installment of our Louisville Music Series. Another great band that exchanged band members with Soul Inc., Elysian Field, The Rugbys, and The Oxfords. Featuring the brother combo of Tom & Jim Owen, these 25 tracks were recorded between 1965-69 and are off the Master tapes from Sambo Studios!! Great mid-60s rock and psych sound. 22 of these tracks have never before been released. CD $10 SKU:21718

NEUTRAL SPIRITS -ST (1972 private press psych jewel)Label:GEAR FAB One of those privately pressed jewels from 1972, with a great weird garagy PSYCHEDELIC sound, we are all hunting after. Doors-inspired music with great fuzz sound and distorted guitars. Their songs range from songs of protest such as 'Speaking Freeley' and Flying' to the 7 minute fuzz-fest 'Flower'. Only 500 originals were pressed 400 of which were destroyed in a fire, so remaining originals are very hard to come by and go for the 4 digits in bucks, and still hardly ever pop up. Featuring nice photos and story of the band. CD $10 SKU:21724

OXFORDS - FLYING UP THROUGH THE SKY PART ONE (Jefferson Airplane style 1970) w ten bonus tracks!-Label:GEAR FAB When this Louisville, Kentucky Band recorded this classic 1970 LP, they also recorded 16 additional tracks between 1967 and 1971. These newly discovered tapes offer us more of their unique Spanky & Our Gang, Jefferson Airplane, and The Mamas & The Papas sound influences. All never before released. Oxfords sole 1970 privately pressed album is one of the best late 60s US psychedelic soft rock albums. Excellent male female vocals and complex original songs. It contains 4 bonus tracks from their pre-LP 45", which were not included in the original album. CD $10 SKU:22028

REASON - Age of Reason(1969 gem of heavy organ-driven rock)Label:GEAR FAB Here we have a real gem of heavy organ-driven rock, dating from 1969! RED TYGER CHURCH - Free Energy (S.F. Glam Dolls style- SALE!) -Label:ALIVE The Velvets, New York Dolls and Bowie clearly figure in the Tyger's musical lexicon, .. there's even an overt 'Hunky Dory' homage closing the album. Put Red Tyger Church on the same bill as the BJM and you'd have a flashback worth its weight in mescaline and Mandrax. - Magnet. CD $10 SKU:23700

REDBONE-3 Original Albums(1965 L.A. guitar funk)
DBL Label:FLOATING WORLD Potlach, Message From A Drum, Cycles Redbone was a Los Angeles-based band led by Native American Pat and Lolly Vegas, both lead singers who had previously worked under their own names, appearing in the 1965 film It's a Bikini World prior to forming Redbone, an all-Native band, at the encouragement of Jimi Hendrix. Their first success with Redbone came in 1970 with ‘Maggie' on Epic. 'The Witch Queen of New Orleans' did somewhat better the next year, and 'Come and Get Your Love'—a single that peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and went platinum—gave them their greatest exposure. It would also be the band's last hit, though they continued to record and perform on an intermittent basis. Their first of six Epic releases, “Potlach," is a strong follow-up to the self-titled debut the same year. The album-opener ‘Maggie' is a perfect example of their distinctive sound, a funky, highly rhythmic itch that gets under your skin; ‘Alcatraz' is a touching ballad with a seldom-heard Indian perspective. The segue on 'Chant: 13th Hour' from tribal chanting to Redbone-style funk predates Robbie Robertson's similar experiments by more than twenty years. "Message from a Drum" is the third Redbone album, released in 1971 — released in Europe under the name "The Witch Queen of New Orleans.” Wonderful guitar parts, swirling around, overwhelming, taking you far (‘Emotions'). Listen, relisten and listen again. James Flemming Rasmussen remembers : “It was Pat and Lolly Vegas, who hired me to produce the string session. Pat and Lolly were friends of mine, I had known them, since I first came to Hollywood, in 1965. Pat and Lolly were at that time, playing on a Club in Hollywood, and in the daytime, we went in the studio, trying to make some music together. Later in 1969, I produced a hit record 'Echo Park,' with an artist called Keith Barbour. On that production, I hired the string session from LA symphony orchestra, and that way Pat and Lolly knew my work with strings. So a few years later, they recorded Witch Queen, then Pat they contacted me, to help them work with a string arrangement on that song.” The seventh Redbone album and last studio recording for the century, “Cycles,” came out in 1982. Pat and Lolly are still here but none of the other "classic" Redbone members. Much more disco oriented. It is an underrated record. I think it needs to be rediscovered because it contains some real gems (‘Gamble,' 'Don't say no'). I ask myself if their loss in interest, from the public at that time, came from the fact they were taking positions for Indian Rights (with the single 'Wounded at Wounded Knee'). A special mention to the bass line on 'Dancing Bones.' CD $10 SKU:24002

REDCOATS- Meet The (64-67 POP PSYCH)-Label:DIONYSUS The Redcoats were formed in New Jersey in 1964 and recorded an album's worth of material between 1964 and 1967 that ranges from beat to pop sike. The material sadly never saw the light of day due to a manager who did nothing to advance their career. 35 years later, Bacchus Archives comes to the rescue and releases this 12-song Beatles-inspired gem. CD $5 SKU:18874

ROBBIE AND THE WEREWOLF- Live at the Waleback (Bizarre 1964 monster inspired oddity)-Label:GEAR FAB OK, so here we have one of the weirdest and most bizarre albums ever recorded. Pretty much unsurpassed in its level of incredible strangeness, this ultra-rare album from the early sixties (1964) California coffee- house circuit is like no other. Robbie is a folksinger of the frantic variety with a fetish for monsters. This inspired some of the most bizarre songs ever committed to vinyl. It was at The Wale Back in LA one heady night in 1964, that Robbie's solo act was captured for posterity by engineer Reice Hamel, now renowned as a pioneer of live recording techniques. The patrons lapped up Robbie's act although some of the more faint-hearted may have experienced a frisson of terror as he prowled amongst them, sweat dripping from his beard, laughing maniacally, during his atmospheric 'Dracula' number. With his long red hair and matching beard, Robbie was a striking performer with a manic stage presence, acting out his songs as much as singing them. His set consisted of his original songs and uniquely reworked versions of folk standards, played on a beat-up twelve-string guitar. Robbie would later join The Brain Train in 1967 and his wife Barbara “Sandi” Robison would become the lead vocalist for The Peanut Butter Conspiracy (PBC) . Featuring liner notes from Alan Brackett of The PBC and UK collector extraordinaire Gray Newell. CD $10 SKU:19459

ROCK ISLAND - ST (Chicago 70s psych ) Label:GEAR FAB Their self-titled debut album from 1970. ROTOMAGUS - The Sky Turns Red: Complete Anthology(1971 protopunk) Label:LION On Julian Cope’s excellent Head Heritage web-site, the Seth Man raves about Rotomagus thus: “The first time I heard this track (‘Fighting C*ck’), I did not freak out. I merely walked into a nearby closet and screamed my head off for a minute solid, beat the floor and ripped my t-shirt... then I cowered when it hit me: this thing came out in 1971? Before “Raw Power”?! I just lost my mind... The only thing that predates this monster in terms of being a full-on amassing of all things heavy are all the many key points on Sir Lord Baltimore’s “Kingdom Come” LP and THAT’S it, brother. Hard to believe this is all pre-1971, as much of the demo is not just proto punk but proto hardc*re—with enough fiery attitude to make you want to scream along. The vocals are wild, while the guitar riffs and grinds and approaches a Stooges via Motorhead apocalyptic grandeur. Amazing! CD $10 SKU:14512

ROTTERS - Wrench to the Nuts Vol 78( Old School CLASSIC PUNK!) Label:DIONYSUS Old school, classic punk rock with all its crude, rude, politically wrong offensiveness and raw energy intact! SEVENTH RING OF SATURN- ORMYTHOLOGY (60s psych Nuggets style)Label:NUSRAT LAST COPIES!!! CD edition housed in a hand-stamped miniature gatefold cardboard sleeve. On Ormythology, Selke and bandmates spin a weird spell combining a deeply groovy brand of '60s psychedelia with, at least sometimes, a 70s songwriting sensibility. There are beautiful tangles of buzzing guitar solo, drums that sounds as if they're being played with sticks the size of tree branches, bubblegum -y vocals. There's even a sitar effect, winding along above a rumbling bass groove. This is space rock at its finest - unapologetically retro freakouts with swirling , fuzz-drowned guitars. The Seventh Ring Of Saturn crafts deep psych rock and pop grooves that could have easily been culled from a long-forgotten cache of outtakes from Lenny Kaye's 'Nuggets' compilation, swimming in tripped-out improvasations and a total freak-out sound. Album includes cover versions of 'Faces"(T.C. Atlantic), 'Spaceman' (HURDY GURDY) and 'Karli Daglar' (ERKIN KORAY) CD $17 SKU:23280

SHEPHERD, ALFIE-THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS (Magnificent, previously unreleased English psych pop concept 1969)Label:WOODEN HILL Re-mastered from the original mastertapes Features ten bonus cuts, also previously unreleased, that were recorded around the same time In 1969, Angel Pavement linchpin Alfie Shepherd took time out from the groups hectic schedule to demo a concept album that hed written around his favourite childhood story, Kenneth Grahames The Wind In The Willows. Sadly Angel Pavement broke up before theyd had a chance to record the work, which was duly left to gather dust. Forty years later, Alfies homemade recording of the proposed album finally gains a long-overdue release. Taken from the original mastertapes, and bolstered by a clutch of similarly unissued home demos from the same timeframe, The Wind In The Willows is now revealed as one of the great lost projects of the late 1960s, a thrilling psychedelic pop song-suite bursting with melodic invention, ambitious vocal arrangements and the boundless spirit of adventure that characterised the era. CONGREGATION FOR ANTI FLIRTS -The McAllen, Texas Teen Scene 1965-1967 -Label:CICADELIC RECORDS \Subtitled: The McAllen, Texas Teen Scene 1965-1967. "From 1965 to 1967, McAllen was the happening scene for some of the wildest music to emanate from Texas in the '60s. The label that played host to these bands was Jimmy Nichol's Pharaoh Records and this album contains the best the label had to offer. Not only were the records superlative, but today they are considered some of the rarest finds for collectors of '60s garage bands. Singles by Pharaoh artists such as The Headstones, The Cavaliers, and Christopher and The Souls go for over a grand apiece, if they can be located. Congregation For Anti-Flirts Inc. also contains in depth coverage on the McAllen bands with rare photos, radio charts, and interviews, making this album a journey to pharaoh's valley that can't be missed. FLUX-ST (1973 monsterpiece King Crimson style) GATEFOLD Label:SEELIE COURT Searing art rock monsterpiece dominated by a relentlessly coruscating lead guitar sonic attack as if played by a demonically possessed John McLaughlin. Flux is ex-Babe Ruth, ex-Motiffe, with lead guitar by John Grimaldi before he joined Argent and worked on their prog masterpiece 'Circus'. This LP is taken from a mono mastertape recorded on a BBC Mobile Unit at a live gig in 1973. A shocked Record Mirror journalist witnessed the concert and described it in a published Record Mirror review as 'a new form of music'. Sound quality is great and this is a band in top form playing exactly what they want, in a zone a bit like King Crimson's 'Red', but with insane guitar leads that bludgeon the listener to death. The vocalist later joined Italian prog rockers Flea On The Honey. Play this with a hangover and you will die in screaming agony. One very short track, and four very long ones. The gig ended with an IRA bomb scare. Yes really. LP $28 SKU:24151
