MAD WALLS- It Turns (Floydian sounds drifting within a stream of dreamy psych).
Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE MAD WALLS- It Turns “It Turns” b/w “Eternal Light” Curated to complement each other, the songs on this single are among the trippiest yet from The Mad Walls. “It Turns” arrives like an echo from the past broadcast from the future, with early Floydian sounds and sentiments drifting within a stream of dreamy psych.“Eternal Light” gallops with muted hooves through a fever dream of dense butterscotch brilliance, an Edwardian ghost swirling alongside holding a spliff the size of a torch, illuminating facets of strange, undulating gems along the path. 45 RPM $10 SKU:21479

MAGIC SHOPPE - Doppelganger (60s style Byrds influenced)- Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE Coincidentally yet appropriately labeling their reverb-heavy sound as “hypnotic,” Magic Shoppe’s single for Hypnotic Bridge leads off with A-side “Doppelgänger,” a song originally titled “Salventius” after the Dutch artist known for his “single-line” drawings of faces. Shelved from an earlier project, the name “Doppelgänger” was actually suggested by Salventius, given it’s a sort of “double” for the original concept for the song. Songwriter and lead guitarist Josiah Webb used three fuzz pedals (with a “fully cocked wah” at the end) with tones turned to pure treble for the fuzz. The ending riff is a nod to Roger McGuinn: highly compressed, clean and with maximum treble, creating a tone that evokes The Byrds’ “Eight Miles High.”

PARAGONS ABBA / BETTER MAN THAN I (1967)Label:ALTERCAT Let me hear you say YEAH!!!".We’re proud to bring you the first official reissue of this essential 60s garage classic, after several bootlegs hitting the market in recent times and its appearance in countless compilations in the last 20 years. Done in cooperation with surviving band members Pat Walters and Danny Huntley. It didn’t appear in any national sales charts, but “Abba” by the Paragons is a smash hit record by any other measure. Ebullient, melodic, infectious, and eminently danceable, it’s impossible not to love. For DJs at sixties events worldwide, it’s a surefire crowd pleaser. Bands continue to cover it onstage and on record, including the Satelliters, the Cynics, and most recently the Rosalyns. Record collectors fight tooth and nail to get their hands on the original 45. As an exemplar of pure joyous American teenage garage bliss, it’s pretty much unsurpassed.Mike Stax (Ugly Things magazine)• First official reissue of 60s garage anthem. • 12-page booklet with the band's story by Mike Stax (Ugly Things magazine) and previously unseen pictures. • Sound remastered by Tim Warren (Crypt Records / Back From The Grave) 45 RPM $18 SKU:24018

REVERBERATIONS -Milder High (Beatles style pop psych) Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE Inspired by a fictional psychedelic experience (with all the exciting highs and mellow lows), “Milder Higher” marks a new, more complex direction in The Reverberations’ sound. With interesting time changes, Leslie vocals and a reversed lead fuzz guitar, the song brings to mind bands such as The Beatles and The Peanut Butter Conspiracy.

Like the A-side, “Sunshine” was recorded in early 2019 by the legendary Matt Rendon at Midtown Island Studios in Tucson and recorded to 8-track tape for a classic approach and feeling, with backing vocals done as three-part harmonies around a single microphone. The recent addition of keyboards to The Reverberations’ lineup brings an essential psychedelic element to the song, and the band. 45 RPM $10 SKU:21780

SACRED ORANGE -Mister Opel (60s style psych)-Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE b/w “Away My Love” and “Crystal Sunlight” A psychedelic supergroup composed of members of Electric Looking Glass, Triptides, Dream Phases, Frankie and the Witch Fingers and more, Sacred Orange is the brainchild of former Creation Factory guitarist Neil Soiland. With influences as diverse as One In A Million, The Beatles, Tintern Abbey, Graham Gouldman, The Beach Boys, Tommy Roe and Satanic Majesties-era Rolling Stones, the Sacred Orange project epitomizes not only the mind-blowing music that defined psychedelia’s golden age, but the camaraderie and shared inspiration that brought it to life. 45 RPM $10 SKU:22513

SCRATCH BONGO WAX Pall Bearing Insurance Collecting Widows (So Cal garage punk) Label:BACCHUS/DIONYSUS “I was introduced to this fairly prolific Thousand Oak, CA crew via the crucial, Ben Weasel-curated Punk USA compilation. Though plenty snide and irreverent, Scratch Bongowax's pop and cranky garage-rawk tangents must have made them stick out like out like a sore thumb amongst their purist punk contemporaries. Mudhoney by way of Mr. T Experience? Sort of - and to large extent it actually works.”- Wilfully Obscure 45 RPM $2 SKU:20686

SECRET COLOURS- OBLIVION :(lysergic country rock t IYL BYRDS) Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE Oblivion” embraces a lysergic country rock tone in the vein of The Byrds and Relatively Clean Rivers while reflecting on the current state of affairs. The instrumental cover of what has long been considered the most psychedelic of disco songs, “I Feel Love,” has been a strong staple of the band’s live set, a trippy tribute to Donna Summer’s classic groover. Tracked to half-inch, 8-track tape using vintage recording equipment and analogue techniques, Secret Colours crafted both “Oblivion” and “I Feel Love” exclusively for their Hypnotic Bridge single. Recorded live in the studio to capture the energy and spontaneity of four musicians interacting, the band then added extra layers of fuzz, Mellotron, string synths, reverse guitar, and a plethora of tape delays to create a swirling, psychedelic haze that propels the music into new realms. 45 RPM $10 SKU:24069

SEEDS -VAMPIRE/ BUTTERFLY CHILD (60s garage psych) Label:HYPNOTIC BRIDGE The Seeds remain amongst the most beloved and iconographic of the original 1960s garage-psych avatars. To many, their edgy dissonant sounds and relentless fuzz-fuelled drive, tinged with flights of psychedelic fancy, makes The Seeds the quintessential exponent of the genre, as heard on such classics-for-the-ages as “Pushin’ Too Hard,” “Can’t Seem To Make You Mine” and “Mr Farmer.” Their eponymous 1966 debut album has long been recognized as a minimalist rock ’n’ roll masterpiece, while its sequels, the pop-art A Web Of Sound and florid Future, have also grown more influential as time goes on. For decades, the name The Seeds was most closely identified with the activities of their eccentric vocalist, the late Sky Saxon, but the first, path-finding line-up was always a collaboration, the musical director of which was, without a doubt, keyboard whiz Daryl Hooper. Now, in the 2020s, as the only surviving original Seed, Daryl has reclaimed his birthright with a new and powerful set of Seeds personnel: band historian Alec Palao on bass, singer/frontman extraordinaire Paul Kopf, and Sky Saxon alumni Mark Bellgraph on guitar and Justin Smith on drums. 45 RPM $10 SKU:24292

BOB DYLAN CHRONICLES - VOL 1 By Bob Dylan Label:SIMON AND SCHUSTER Original unclipped dust jacket , VG condition. From the collection of Greg Shaw. A memoir written by American musician Bob Dylan. The book was published on October 5, 2004, by Simon & Schuster. The 304-page book covers three selected points from Dylan's long career: 1961, 1970, and 1989, while he was writing and recording Bob Dylan, New Morning and Oh Mercy, respectively.
"I'd come from a long ways off and had started a long ways down. But now destiny was about to manifest itself. I felt like it was looking right at me and nobody else." So writes Bob Dylan in Chronicles: Volume One, his remarkable book exploring critical junctures in his life and career. Through Dylan's eyes and open mind, we see Greenwich Village, circa 1961, when he first arrives in Manhattan. Dylan's New York is a magical city of possibilities -- smoky, nightlong parties; literary awakenings; transient loves and unbreakable friendships. Elegiac observations are punctuated by jabs of memories, penetrating and tough. With the book's side trips to New Orleans, Woodstock, Minnesota and points west, Chronicles: Volume One is an intimate and intensely personal recollection of extraordinary times. By turns revealing, poetical, passionate and witty, Chronicles: Volume One is a mesmerizing window on Bob Dylan's thoughts and influences. Dylan's voice is distinctively American: generous of spirit, engaged, fanciful and rhythmic. Utilizing his unparalleled gifts of storytelling and the exquisite expressiveness that are the hallmarks of his music, Bob Dylan turns Chronicles: Volume One into a poignant reflection on life, and the people and places that helped shape the man and the art BOOKS & MAGS $30 SKU:23746

I DON’T FIT IN -My WIld Ride thru the Punk and Powerpop Trenches - By Paul Collins Label:HOZAK After two long years of painstaking research and development, we present to you, the first major memoir covering the birth of DIY Power Pop, from Paul Collins. From it’s initial conception as a film script to it’s re-birth as a full-bore rock & roll revelation, this is one crazy story from beginning to end. Outlining the first National DIY cross-country tour by an unsigned band in 1977, and by default, creating the pathway for the true indie underground network of the 80s to take as a template. It wasn’t even a second thought for Collins and bandmates Peter Case and Jack Lee, but the underground rock & roll world is a better place for it. But until now, the real details of the origins of The Nerves, Breakaways, and The BEAT have eluded most of us, so with this tome of incredible survival stories from the trenches, Paul Collins opens up and reveals all the drama, victories and defeats with such an impassioned voice, you won’t be able to put it down. The coverage of the pre-Punk 1975 landscape of both LA and San Francisco is unmatched, and your mind will be BLOWN.

Featuring TONS of previously unseen photos, flyers and ephemera from the earliest days of The Nerves lineup as a FOUR PIECE, to the legal documents challenging The Paul Collins BEAT vs The English Beat, to the ill-fated Nerves reunion, and so much in between. Truly a smorgasbord of juicy details and revelatory discoveries await, balancing the failures with triumphs from the mid 1970s to the mid 2000s, when Paul returned to the touring circuit. From literally renting out a space for the first documented Punk show in Los Angeles in March of 1977, to The Screamers story about buying a copy of The Nerves EP at the Capitol Records swap meet and smashing it to pieces- it’s all in there, along with so many more soon-to-be-legendary tales from the real trenches you don’t usually rise out from unscathed…. 227 PAGES PAPERBACK BOOKS & MAGS $28 SKU:20437

HUNNS /DIE HUNNS /-Long Legs digipack with Duane Peters and Corey Parks -Label:DISASTER Records “Duane Peters and Corey Parks, the rude 'n' tattooed fun couple of punk, finally get to collaborate on the viciously raging Long Legs, the first Hunns album to feature the 6 foot-plus ex-Nashville Pussy vixen. She brings to the table driving basslines and an effective vocal counterpoint to Peters' snotty rasp, but the focus is still the ex-U.S. Bombs frontman and his unceasing font of bad attitude. This is catchy, dirty, ugly-as-hell punk rock” - High Bias. “I gotta tell you, Corey Parks had me from the git-go but her "hey, ho, let's go" chants on the chorus of "Burn In Hell" took it to a whole new level. Warning to the faint of heart, this is a real rock n' roll record. (Yeah, I said record, 'cause when it's this good calling it a real rock n' roll cd just doesn't seem right.) Posers may spontaneously comburst into flames. Cool, huh?” - Ear Candy CD $10 SKU:24507

TERRY & THE PIRATES- Comanche Boots (70s San Francisco Quicksilver Messenger Service )-Label:ACADIA Twenty nine years after the release of the original Too Close For Comfort comes the third issue of this priceless and timeless music from San Francisco's own Terry & The Pirates.” Another view: “Probably only remembered today as one of the many bands graced by the guitarwork of John Cipollina following his departure from Quicksilver Messenger Service, and as a footnote in the career of Nicky Hopkins, Terry and the Pirates deserve much greater recognition. Although Cipollina’s feral guitar is undoubtedly essential to their charms, the work of Terry Dolan himself should not be underestimated. His voice is an acquired taste, a strange mixture of David Crosby and Captain Beefheart, but as such, it’s impressively distinctive. Meanwhile, his songwriting mines that same rich vein of American folk which yielded ‘Pride Of Man’ (so memorably covered by Quicksilver). The best songs on this collection of various live and studio recordings are certainly Dolan’s own. Whilst a version of Jackie Wilson’s ‘Higher & Higher’ might be entertainingly audacious, covers of ‘Mystery Train’ and ‘Don’t Do It’ aren’t going to make anybody forget those by The Band, despite some impressive sparring between Cipollina and second guitarist Greg Douglass on the latter. In this context, tracks like ‘Inside and Out’ and ‘Inlaws and Outlaws’ distinguish themselves as fine examples of original Californian rock n’ roll. Even if none of this is especially ground-breaking or epoch-defining music, it’s played with spirit and any fans of West Coast music who might have easily overlooked it should be sure to rectify their mistake. CD $10 SKU:18999

TETRAGON- Nature ( TRIPPY 70s Krautrock ) -Label:LION An ecology-inspired Krautrock album (1971) from a short-lived group comprised of German school-chums, some of whom had recorded an LP as Trikolon. Tetragon did not conform to any predetermined musical style: they played whatever they pleased, as long as it included groovy Hammond organ and very trippy, flanged wah-wah guitar, in various taut jamming modes that favored jazz/rock fusion à la Miles Davis with a small dose of classical music (adapting a Bach fugue along the way). The result is a bouquet of lush instrumentals, with elements of Egg or the Nice, and quite a bit of T2 to boot. The album was recorded in a converted barn, using a Revox A77 two-track tape recorder and seven microphones placed judiciously to best capture the sound of each instrument. Re-recording wasn1t possible, as the record was mixed live. Yet these challenging conditions inspired the band to great heights: Hendrik Schaper played organ and clavinet simultaneously, with one hand on each keyboard; meanwhile, Jürgen Jaehner unleashed rampaging electric guitar solos, then, in an instant, switched to acoustic guitar for the next musical passage; Schaper didn't own a piano, so he used a pre-amp with a wah-wah pedal to imitate that instruments sound. A virtuoso effort, from start to finish! Tetragon didn't bother contacting any record labels; they didn't their music would interest anyone. A mere 400 copies of the album were released on a private label, named Soma after the drug-induced effect described in Alduous Huxleys Brave New World. Our edition includes all of the original pro-environment, anti-industrial pollution gatefold album art, a detailed band history, band photos, and a nearly fifteen-minute bonus track, recorded live in Georgsmarienhütte in 1972. THUNDERS, Johnny--Diary of a Gypsy Lover 23 TRAX ALTERNATE STUDIO CUTS,LIVE,RADIO)?Label:SONIC Punk rock guitar hero, earning a cult following for his noisy but epic style a few years before the insouciant new music gained its name. Following in the footsteps of his idol and role model Keith Richards, Johnny Thunders (born John Anthony Genzale, Jr.) lived the ultimate rock & roll life, spending most of his days churning out tough, sloppy three-chord rock & roll and gaining nearly as strong a reputation for his decades-long struggle with addiction as for his music. Thunders made his greatest impact as a member of the New York Dolls, the proto-punk glam rockers of the early '70s. During the late '70s, he was a familiar figure on the New York punk scene, both with his band the Heartbreakers and as a solo artist. Thunders performed and recorded steadily until his death in 1991, turning out a series of records that inadvertently documented the struggles of his life and his art. CD $10 SKU:20428

Stokes also co-produced the album with partner Bayard Johnson (Mother Nature's Army) and Randall Keith. THEE MICHELLE GUN ELEPHANT-Film Stars Not Dead -RARE DVD (Japanese cult rock and rollers IYL Who, Iggy,Ramones )-Label:TRIAD Unofficial Release, Dolby Digital ARCHIVE COPY. NOT SEALED BUT MINT Though little-known in America prior to 2000, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant formed in Japan back in 1991 and began playing raucous garage rock & roll inspired by British punk and blues. For anyone who wants something a la Guitar Wolf, this band will not disappoint. Though the Land Of The Rising Sun's other garage punk bands (e.g. Teengenerate and Guitar Wolf) almost exclusively cut their teeth on the three-chords-and-a-sneer style of artists like Eddie Cochran and the Ramones, Michelle Gun Elephant also fervently worships the cosmic live intensity of The Who and the white soul of the MC5, as well as the destructo rock of lesser-known U.S. bands like the Sonics and the Scientists. LAZY SMOKE- Corridor Of Faces (ORIG copies of 1993 reissue IN PLAIN WHITE JACKET!) SAALE -Label:ONYX Copies with jacket going for $2500.00!~ . Original copies in a plain white jacket of the very highly regarded Onyx label reissue from 1993. "In a genre built on obscured and unsung genius, “Corridor Of Faces” transcends and stands out as a true psyche masterpiece. Rising above any number of recently unearthed late-60s anglo-pop platters, the sole offering from small town Massachusetts phenomenon Lazy Smoke is a cohesive, solid, classic album in every sense. Ten songs that weave into one-another, painting some beautifully drifty sonic picture as they go. The first remarkable trait of Lazy Smoke's sound is the lead vocals' uncanny similarity to John Lennon. If that likeness was the whole story, we would have a Beatles sound-alike on our hands, and that would be that. Upon digging just a little deeper below the surface, we instead find a darker tone and a patient, eerie and almost shut-in feeling resonating through the songs. While bands like The Beatles and The Left Banke were singing about love, lament and hallucinated travel experiences, the songs on Corridor Of Faces get sincerely dark right away. Even the seemingly-light teenage love-themed 'Sarah Saturday' shares an undercurrent of on-the-edge uncertainty and dread. It's this undercurrent that calls to mind comparisons to Forever Changes-era Love and the more damaged end of the pop spectrum. Originally privately pressed in MA in an edition of only 500 copies in 1968 LP $14 SKU:21224

LONESOME SHACK - More Primitive ST (EArly Black Keys style) Black vinyl! - Label:ALIVE
“More Primitive” finds Seattle’s Lonesome Shack exploring the depths of boogie and country blues. The trio’s sound is raw and immediate with finger-picked guitar lines, soulful crooning and big danceable grooves. Ben Todd’s introspective lyrics take the American blues tradition to a new level, examining personal history, loss of friends, and a burning desire to get to the primitive core of life.

The band began in New Mexico’s Gila Wilderness where Ben Todd hunkered down in the shack he built and studied the music of the American folk and blues lineage. In 2008 Todd joined up with drummer Kristian Garrard in Seattle, and in 2011 bassist Luke Bergman became the third member.

Lonesome Shack was signed to Alive thanks to Van Campbell of the Black Diamond Heavies who brought them to our attention.
LP $16 SKU:15943

LONESOME SHACK - City Man(Great boogie blues groove)Label:KNICK KNACK On the surface, it's easy to burrow into City Man and imagine it was recorded in some Mississippi juke joint a long, long time ago (accentuated by the fact that Todd pushes both his guitar and the vocal through the same little amp). But when you put an ear to what's really going on, you start hearing all the subtle-but-wild-ass stuff Garrard's doing - or the cool how-did-he-do-that riffs Todd pulls, tugs, and flecks out of his Tiesco's strings or Bergman's not-what-you-would've-expected-was-going-to-happen approach to blues bass. And therein lies the secret to Lonesome Shack: you can have a happy, casual hangout with City Man and have a good time or you can dig into the thing as deeply as you like and find a treasure trove of mind-blowing grooves that go somewhere beyond the traditional. --Brian Robbins, Brian-Robbins.com, January 1, 2013 LP $16 SKU:21850

LEVEE CAMP MOAN-ST (1969 blues based rock) SAALE! -Label:SOMMER This is the first, legitimate vinyl reissue of this extraordinarily rare album. Includes insert with rare photos and full band history by Pete Sarfas. In 1969 Bracknell based blues rock outfit Levee Camp Moan released what was destined to become one of the most sought after UK private pressings of the period. Issued on the County Recording Services label (SVVS 132), a small run of discs was pressed up and sold locally at gigs as well as being handed out to friends. Housed in an obligatory custom built sleeve that had a snapshot of the group pasted onto the front, this LP marked out their status as one of the most exciting bands to emerge out of the thriving local underground scene in the Bracknell Delta. The group had taken their name from the old blues number and the band members, manager and assorted roadies took up residence in a local farmhouse known as Peacock Farm. It was there that LCM would rehearse into the small hours thumping out a mixture of blues standards as well as their own compositions until they had become a tight unit ready to 'take on the world'. Influences ranged from the urban blues of Otis Rush, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells to Muddy Waters, Skip James and beyond. The more or less contemporary white blues of the time, Canned Heat, Savoy Brown and Paul Butterfield also served as a major source of inspiration. From their humble roots LCM quickly built up a following on the British Blues circuit, frequenting the likes of the Marquee, Crawdaddy, Klooks Kleek, Eel Pie Island and Rikki Tik club. On the college circuit they toured extensively with Chickenshack, Canned Heat and Muddy Waters with performances being of a high enough standard to generate record company interest. Unable to secure a record deal, they had no other choice but to do it themselves. And so it was in the winter months of early '69 that LCM entered Virgin Sound in nearby Windsor to lay down eight tracks recorded on a four track machine. At the time of its creation the term private pressing would have had little or no relevance in musical circles and the significant thing to remember is that in such cases there is no record company interference and what the band was able to produce under these conditions was the archetypal private pressing, raw, under produced and thrillingly primitive. The project successfully captured the spirit and aggression of an exciting new band and the original artefact is now a zeitgeist of that remarkable era. After Levee Camp Moan, Ian Campbell went on to carve out a busy musical career performing with, amongst many others, the Nashville Teens, Arthur Brown's band and Mungo Jerry. Bassist Dave Stubbs played with a host of notables including gigs in Eric Clapton's band and lengthy tours with Uli Jon Roth (ex Scorpions). This is the first, legitimate vinyl reissue of this extraordinarily rare album. Includes insert with rare photos and full band histo LP $18 SKU:22686

SHORTCROSS - Arising (1972 Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Grand Funk Railroad style)-Label:GEAR FAB AllMusic Review by Stanton Swihart [-]Opening with song titles such as "Nothin' But a Woman," "Wastin' Time," "Suicide Blues," and "Just Don't Care," Short Cross made no secret on their sole 1972 album, Arising of the fact that they aspired to make hard blues-rock like their idols -- Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Grand Funk Railroad -- were creating. Sure enough, the album is a piece of competently played blues-rock.
