NEW ARRIVALS

SHIVA'S HEADBAND -The Singles Collection- (1966 TEXAS psych ) limited edition Picture Disc LP, with sticker signed by the bandLabel:BLUETHROAT RECORDS "Flash back (literally) to 1966 when Austin was first feeling its oats as musical hotbed. The 13th Floor Elevators were the headliners and Conqueroo the in-crowd favorites; the third member of the Unholy Three was Shiva's HeadBand. Spencer Perskin was their flamboyant frontman, wailing away on electric violin and leading all God's children to the promised land of psychotropic drug-induced bliss. He had a wonderful partner in pianist Shawn Siegel, and a rhythm section second to none. They may have never gotten the absolute adulation of the Elevators, but in many ways Shiva's was the true hometown hero." "Shiva’s Headband are routinely ranked alongside Texan contemporaries 13th Floor Elevators and The Moving Sidewalks. Their raw-boned, sinuous and superb 1968 debut single, 'Kaleidoscoptic/Song For Peace,' fair reeks of head shop joss sticks, but the following year’s 'Take Me To The Mountains' is rather more representative: a country-rock scuffle, topped with Perskin’s scratchy fiddle, in which one can almost discern the approving clang of spittoons." —Record Collector magazine " To this day, the extravagantly-bearded Shiva’s Headband violinist/vocalist Spencer Perskin resides in Austin, Texas and still fronts a version of the band he formed in 1967. The Singles Collection compiles the four 45s they released between 1968 and 1975, appending three live tracks, and comes to you in the form of an agreeably lurid vinyl picture disc in a limited run of 1,000 copies. TREACLE PEOPLE-ST(70s style prog psych Deep Purple/Zep style) Label:WORLD IN SOUND On their analogue-recorded debut album the quintet Treacle People very impressively and with lot of love to the detail revive the spirit, the musicianship and the passion of their British idols from the early 70s. The eight partly epic original compositions have been recorded in 2 sessions "live" in studio and reflect many-faceted, progressive, psychedelic and classical hard rock. Their wide musical spectrum presents .... expressive, emotional and striking vocals (Cruelest Secret - Zero Gravity) .... atmospheric but also aggressive guitarsolos (Neptune's Kiss - Anschlag I) .... a pulsating, excessive-rocking hammond-organ (Anschlag I - Last Song), warm and dynamic hammond/piano melodies (Cruelest Secret - Moonchild) .... driven by a powerful-grooving bass and soulful to hypnotic drums. Biographic information: All members are in their early/mid twenties and the history of Treacle People begins in 1998 in Worms (south-western part of Germany). They are inspired by the roots of the progressive and psychedelic hard rock from 60's and early 70's, the time period in which youth celebrated musical excesses creatively and revolutionary. Classically trained they practiced themselves in the works of Deep Purple, Led zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, E.L.P, King Crimson and Pink Floyd. Thus originated from experimental, endless jam-sessions technically polished rock songs which have "the own appeal". Live on stage they perform excessively own material but also highlights from rock history: In a Gadda da Vida " (Iron Butterfly), "Black Night" (Deep Purple) and Pink Floyds complete CD $12 SKU:21762

PENTAGON -Die Vertreibung der bösen. (70s German blues prog) SAALE! .Label:GARDEN OF DELIGHTS (Germany): "Pentagon was the first group on the small Munich label German Blues and Underground, which later on also released the two Siloah records. The 7” single was supposed to be followed by an LP, but it never got beyond the dubplate/acetate stage, a kind of demo pressing. A music cassette, however, was released, the simple cover of which was used for the LP cover, too. Although very young at the time, the three musicians already played respectable blues rock. The tracks of side 2 of the vinyl album were taken from the master tape, the tracks of side 1 were digitally decrackled by Cedar’s NoNoise system. It’s a first-class find, saved from oblivion in the very last minute. The title means in English “The expulsion of the evil spirits from the Pentagon”. Limited edition of 1000 numbered LPs. Comes with 8-page LP sized booklet. LP $18 SKU:20883

ROLAND, PAUL-Bates Motel (70s proto steam punk cult rocker)LTD ED 180 gram Label:69 WATT-WATT2 Cult English baroque rocker Paul Roland (who was once described as 'the male Kate Bush' by label mate Robyn Hitchcock) has left the mock gothic grandeur of his past albums such as 'Danse Macabre', the Edwardian proto-steampunk offerings of 'A Cabinet of Curiosities' and the dark woods of folk-themed 'Grimm' to plug his electric guitar in and thrash to death such titles as 'I Was A Teenage Zombie', 'Tortured By The Daughter of Fu Manchu', 'How I Escaped From Devil's Island' and the title track ‘Bates Motel’. Someone has evidently been listening to The Cramps and Johnny Cash! For those who might find the pace rather bracing, there are also a couple of spaced-out psych tracks (including a paean to the dark Indian goddess Kali) and a creepy tale or two with a suitably atmospheric setting - one inspired by a ghost story written by England's master of the macabre M.R. James ('The Wailing Well'). The lighter side of Roland's macabre humour is embodied in a couple of classic Sixties psych-punk tracks with a twist (‘Tortured By The Daughter of Fu Manchu’ and 'Crazy'), plus a sly pastiche of self-righteous evangelical preachers on the gospel tinged 'Promised Land' and a typical Roland offbeat Arabian adventure ‘Khatmandu’. •New remixed sound + alternative cover artwork to the Sireena 2013 CD edition. •Limited to 200 black vinyl copies. Factory sealed album. 180gr vinyl as usual.
oland: "In the late 1980s I interviewed several members of the Velvet Underground for a national English newspaper and at the end of the interviews I asked Nico, Sterling Morrison and Maureen Tucker if they would be interested in recording with me and they seemed genuinely enthusiastic. So I wrote some songs for them and sent the tapes over to the States, but there were technical problems that couldn't be resolved… so the songs were shelved, until now. I had spoken to Sterling several times on the phone and he had written back saying that he was keen to record and he liked the songs, particularly the structures, I remember, but I didn't pursue it, thinking that we had all the time in the world to get together. Then sadly he died and soon after so did Nico. Then my own music went off in a more psych-folk direction and I forgot all about the PR/VU project. But recently after making a number of intimate acoustic albums I was itching to rock again and I thought it was time to dust off the songs I had written for them and complete those which I hadn't finished. 'Bates Motel' is not Paul Roland imitating the Velvet Underground - that would be pointless - it is the album that I would have made with Mo, Sterling and Nico had I been a bit more aggressively ambitious and made sure the opportunity wasn't lost." S TO S -ST (obscure hard-rock/proto-metal beast 1978)Label:SOMMER An obscure hard-rock/proto-metal beast from Belgium, originally released in 1978 as a private edition of 300 LP's. Expect a dangerous and aggressive sound, with wall of fuzz guitars and manic speed drumming. Highly recommended to anyone into 'Raw Power'-era Stooges, 'Back In The USA'-era MC5, Pink Fairies, early Motorhead, Hawkwind, Acid Archives US obscurities like White Boy & The Average Rat Band, early NWOBHM bands and compilations à la 'Bonehead Crunchers'. LP $28 SKU:24433

SCAMPOLO- UNDER THE RAINBOW (1968 Hungarian rock/soul) Label:MOIRAS Limited edition of 330 copies, housed in a nice gatefold sleeve! It's a twist of fate that it took the first rock'n'roll band that reached star status in Hungary 48 years to release their first album. At the beginning of the 1960s the band was the most popular among the few Hungarian rock'n'roll groups, their shows' atmosphere was often quite heated. The band existed until the early '80s except for some short pauses and with a few changes in the lineup. The first Scampolo album represents the period between 1968 and 1970 when they left their rock'n'roll roots behind and played a repertoire that was unique in Hungary. It consisted partly of British and American progressive rock and soul hits, partly of their own compositions. These were collected from studio, rehearsal and concert recordings. LP $22 SKU:24235

SILVERHEAD -16 AND SAVAGED (1972 raunchy 70s glam rock, gatefold slv) SAALE! Label:TRADING PLACES Star-studded Silverhead was glam-rock with a difference. Led by the actor/public schoolboy Michael Des Barres, who appeared in 'To Sir With Love' in his youth, the band had Bowie alumnus Rockin' Rod Davies and Stevie Forest on dual guitars, solid drummer Pete Thompson, and best of all, future Blondie bassist Nigel Harrison, already showing melodic depth in his grooves. This killer second album (1973), from Deep Purple's Purple label, has Robert Plant's mate, Robbie Blunt in place of Forest and benefits from the keyboard skills of Rabbit Bundrick, who played with Paul Kossoff and Bob Marley. This is tasteful, tongue-in-cheek rock on the raunchy side of glam, a welcome reissue for all discerning glam fans. Comes in gatefold sleeve. LP $22 SKU:24521

SIMONES- CORRIDOR OF DREAMS ('70s US private press legends)Label:KRAUTED MIND Pressed on coloured vinyl and presented in a special cardboard cover, this is a limited edition (500 copies) reissue of Al Simones' 1993 album. Long revered as a trade secret amongst record dealers and collectors, Simones' music is among the great secrets of the home recording revolution that took root in the late 1980s. Ohio born Al Simones combined his love of '60s and '70s psychedelic rock music with vintage instruments, and produced four highly collectable handmade albums between 1992 and 2009. All of them are filled with intense psychedelic guitar music that invokes the energy and passion of his influences -including Jimi Hendrix and Phil Keaggy of The Glass Harp- whilst also possessing the mystery and spiritual intensity that surrounds '70s US private press legends such as Jeffrey Liberman and Mystic Siva. LP $22 SKU:24216

TEK,DENIZ-LOST FOR WORDS (RAdio Birdman)Label:CAREER Deniz Tek, guitarist and founding member of legendary Australian proto-punk band Radio Birdman, releases an awesome album of guitar dominated instrumentals CD $19 SKU:22645

TEK,DENIZ- GROUP -EQUINOX (RAdio Birdman)Label:CITADEL The fourth of Deniz's solo albums, Equinox features a complete band change and reversal of his usually minimalist production philosophy. Completely stepping outside of his stereotype, many people have suggested this is his best work to date. Many of his more straight "rock" following haven't really handled the change however. An 11 Track solo album delving into a strange world of surreal vignettes and soundscapes. Bigger production and new band. CD $14 SKU:23300

TELLTALE HEARTS- High Tide (snotty mid-60s style garage punk with R&B and blues influence )LAST COPIES Label:VOXX Anthology '83-'86 - 21 cuts, including 9 previously unreleased, highlight this killer compilation from San Diego's version of the Shadows Of Knight. Back in the days of the mid-80s "garage revival" scene that revolved around the Cavern Club, there was no doubt that the Tell-Tale Hearts led the pack of "paisley underground" bands that were popping up everywhere. They combined primitive and snotty mid-60s garage punk with R&B and blues influences, and had in Ray Brandes a great vocalist. Bill Calhoun played the keys, Eric Bacher was the guitarist, Dave Klowden the powerhouse drummer, and Mike Stax (publisher of the great Ugly Things fanzine) the "bass that ate San Diego." These guys had it all: the "look," the sound, and the carefree attitude. CD $15 SKU:23244

THEE MICHELLE GUN ELEPHANT-RUMBLE (Japanese cult rock and rollers IYL Who, Iggy,Ramones )-Label:TRIAD \. Though little-known in America prior to 2000, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant formed in Japan back in 1991 and began playing raucous garage rock & roll inspired by British punk and blues. For anyone who wants something a la Guitar Wolf, this band will not disappoint. Though the Land Of The Rising Sun's other garage punk bands (e.g. Teengenerate and Guitar Wolf) almost exclusively cut their teeth on the three-chords-and-a-sneer style of artists like Eddie Cochran and the Ramones, Michelle Gun Elephant also fervently worships the cosmic live intensity of The Who and the white soul of the MC5, as well as the destructo rock of lesser-known U.S. bands like the Sonics and the Scientists CD $15 SKU:23807

THOMAS EDISUNS ELECTRIC LIGHT BULB BAND - ST (1967 garage, psych, & British Invasion sounds) Label:GEAR FAB A truly experimental psych/rock/pop album from 1967. THREE-HEADED DOG-HOUND OF HADES(rare 1973 UK prog rock)Label:AUDIO ARCHIVES An ultra-rare recording from 1973 by this accomplished progressive-rock outfit who were part of the lively Birmingham Underground Rock Scene. Musical influences range from the exquisite dual guitar approach of bands such as Wishbone Ash and Wild Turkey to the heavier, darker mood of early Judas Priest. This CD includes a special synopsis of the thriving Brum Scene between 1965-75 documenting many of the other intriguing, yet little-known bands who were part of it. Fold out poster sleeve with an abundance of illustrations & memorabilia plus 4 mega-rare bonus tracks by several other Midlands bands including Stallion and Khayyam plus a special mystery track. CD $10 SKU:20995

THRILLS- N.A.F.I.T.C - Original Boston Punk 1977-1981 (Blondie style pop/punk)-CDLabel:DIONYSUS The Thrills only released one single during their lifetime, 1979's "Hey! (Not Another Face in the Crowd)"/"I'll Be the Heartbreaker," both sides of which are included here. They've managed to conjure an entire album out of their legacy on this CD, though, by adding six songs recorded on a Boston radio station in October 1978, as well as live tracks from 1978 and 1981. CD $3 SKU:19828

THUNDERS, Johnny--Diary of a Gypsy Lover 23 TRAX ALTERNATE STUDIO CUTS,LIVE,RADIO)?Label:SONIC Punk rock guitar hero, earning a cult following for his noisy but epic style a few years before the insouciant new music gained its name. Following in the footsteps of his idol and role model Keith Richards, Johnny Thunders (born John Anthony Genzale, Jr.) lived the ultimate rock & roll life, spending most of his days churning out tough, sloppy three-chord rock & roll and gaining nearly as strong a reputation for his decades-long struggle with addiction as for his music. Thunders made his greatest impact as a member of the New York Dolls, the proto-punk glam rockers of the early '70s. During the late '70s, he was a familiar figure on the New York punk scene, both with his band the Heartbreakers and as a solo artist. Thunders performed and recorded steadily until his death in 1991, turning out a series of records that inadvertently documented the struggles of his life and his art. CD $10 SKU:20428

THUNDERS, Johnny-Internal Posession AT Last (Live Recordings)Label:SONIC IN COLD BLOOD LIVE SHOW+STUDIO ACOUSTIC CD $10 SKU:20429

TIMOTHY EERIE -Ritual (glimmering psychedelic pop )Label:NOMAD EEL Austin-based Timothy Eerie crafts glimmering psychedelic pop as delectable as a sheet of bubble gum-flavored LSD and as quenching as an ice cold glass of psilocybin mushroom tea. With an ear for that authentic ‘summer of of love’ sound, Mr. Eerie’s grooves run deep with jangly guitar licks, woodwind compositions and sublime vocal harmonies. If you love the likes of Morgan Delt, Jacco Gardener and the decades-rich output from Syd Barrett’s musical offspring, this one is a no-brainer. CD $10 SKU:21654

TIMOTHY LEARY & SIMON STOKES- Right to Fly (1996) Label:PsychoRelic The man who urged a generation to "Tune in, Turn On, and Drop Out" is taking his ironically upbeat message to the masses with his CD, Right to Fly. Prior to his passing on May 31, 1996, Dr. Timothy Leary recorded this collection of rock 'n roll songs with Simon Stokes (Black Whip Thrill Band). Stokes also co-produced the album with partner Bayard Johnson (Mother Nature's Army) and Randall Keith. During his life, Timothy Leary was a professor, an actor, a lecturer, a fugitive, a candidate, a comedian, a software developer and a recording artist. Famous for his research with psychedelic drugs in the 60's, Dr. Leary has since become a cultural icon. CD $10 SKU:24335

TOMS - 1979 Sessions (POWERPOP)Label:FUTUREMAN "For many years, Tommy Marolda has been a versatile member of the American music industry: a multi-instrumentalist, producer, engineer, composer, Grammy-nominated songwriter...the list goes on. But record nerds like me know Tommy because of a single weekend in 1979. He was scheduled to record demos with the Smithereens in his New Jersey home studio, but their last-minute cancelation gave Tommy a small window to record something of his own. After three days of hitting the record button and dashing back to his instruments, Tommy had more than 30 slabs of pop perfection on tape, 12 of which became his seminal power pop LP 'The Toms'. Other tracks from that weekend session have trickled out via reissues of 'The Toms' over the years, but little did anyone know Tommy recorded enough material to fill up three long players! Presented here are the last of the 1979 Toms sessions. Savor them like the rare commodities that they are."

TONGUE - Keep on Truckin (forgotten classic of late '60s American psych)Label:GEAR FAB Tongue were a blues-based, organ-fueled, country and rural folk-influenced hard rock band that emerged from the copious student population of countercultural Wisconsin. Though Tongue remains a criminally underrated outfit, and never made it big on a national level, their touring reached legendary status, particularly in the mid-west. They were on the road for 10 years and played 250 gigs a year without flying to a single one of them. CD $10 SKU:19455

TOUCH- Street Suite (1968 blues psych) -Label:GEAR FAB AllMusic Review by Stanton Swihart :Coming directly from playing live with some of the finest hard rock bands of the era, Touch entered the studio to record their only album in 1968, released the following year in a limited pressing of 100 LPs. This Gear Fab reissue collects that entire album with the original lineup's two non-LP 45s, three songs recorded by the altered post-LP lineup, and a couple cuts by the Essence, the latter day band of Touch leader Ray Schulte. As such, it is the complete collection of the band's intense, sometimes left-leaning psychedelia grounded in blues.

Zero Hour has uncovered a batch of rare unreleased demos, a live track and put their single releases together onto this fine compilation. 16 tracks of cool power pop. CD $15 SKU:24553

ALIVE AT THE DEEP BLUES FESTIVAL -VA W Radio Moscow,Buffalo Killers,John The Conqueror, Left Lane Cruiser, Porkchop, and more!Label:ALIVE BUFFALO KILLERS and RADIO MOSCOW turned in super heavy sets soaked in psychedelia and reverb, while LEE BAINS III & The GLORY FIRES fiercely ripped through their show with a blistering set of songs steeped in Southern rock, R&B, soul, gospel and punk. BRIAN OLIVE and his backing band melded soulful R&B with technicolor garage-pop for their early daytime set, while HENRY’S FUNERAL SHOE (the Welsh duo), LEFT LANE CRUISER and newcomers JOHN THE CONQUEROR perhaps kept closest to the Deep Blues curriculum with their respectively raunchy and heavily amplified modern interpretations of rural gutbucket Delta Blues.

BEYOND THE CALICO WALL - VA ( 60s psych ) Label:VOXX The good people who put together this compilation set out to accomplish no less daunting a task than collecting the most bizarre and extreme underground psychedelic music recorded in the 1960's, and, for the most part, the choices seem to be right on the money. The collection starts off with "The Trip" by Park Avenue Playground, a song that bursts out of the gate with an explosion of fuzz guitar, organ, and mad siren-like oscillating effects, coming at you from all directions, seemingly. Next up is "Suzie's gone" by Afterglow, definitely one of the weirdest singles ever. The singer moans "so...my...world...is...messed...up!" in the most detached voice possible over a staccato organ and drum part, leading to a guitar solo that soon collapses into no recognizable conventional song structure. No less amazing is "Mt. Olympus" by The Flower Power, which starts off as an innocuous and somewhat introspective sounding piece until a wild heavily chorused guitar break, which only slightly warns you of the totally anarchic feedback and free-form noise ending -- which goes on for over a minute in a 3:40 single! Then you get a bizarre sci-fi/horror tale in "The pulse" by Burritt Bradley, and an incredible reading of The Electric Prunes' "I had too much to dream last night" by Rasputin and the Mad Monks, with weird proto-techno sound effects, backwards vocals, and production effects making the backing track fade in and out, creating a disturbing sensory assault. Other highlights include "An experiment in terror" by The Greek Fountains, which is a strange polyrhythmic instrumental, and "Up in my mind" by The Spontaneous Generation, which surely has to rank as one of the most aggressive 60's psych records ever made, with waves of vibrato guitar and insistent wah wah riffing. Also worthwhile is "The electronic insides and metal complexion that make up Herr Dr. Krieg," by The Riders of the Mark, which musically isn't quite as strange as its title, but comes close! The weirdness factor decreases somewhat as the c.d. progresses, and a sloppy but straightforward cover of "In a gadda da vida" by Six Feet Under makes for a pretty uninteresting closer, but the good material here makes this an essential purchase. Buy it if you like psychedelia, experimental or Incredibly Strange Music. Robert Schell (Townsville, Texas) COMP CD $10 SKU:22106

COME BACK BIRD- ABILINE Texas Teen Scene 1965-67-Label:CICADELIC RECORDS There were vigorous garage band scenes all over the U.S. in the mid-'60s as young musicians, inspired by the British Invasion sounds of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, the Who, and the Kinks, picked up electric guitars and had at it, usually resulting in music that was more about attitude and approximation than it was about originality or skill. Abilene, TX had such a scene, and this fun set collects four of the region’s most popular garage outfits, the Chevelle V, the Livin' End, the Continentals, and the Coachmen. Of course, being Texas, there was also a lot of Buddy Holly bubbling under these bands’ singles, too. Highlights here include the Chevelle V’s 'Come Back Bird' (there are three versions of it collected here, of which the original single version is the best) and their version of the surf classic 'Koko Joe'; the Livin' End's sizzling takes on ‘Roadrunner,' 'All Alone' (essentially 'I’m a Man' with different lyrics), 'My Destination' (a fuzzed out near-cousin to the Beatles' 'Day Tripper'), and the Who-like 'Makin’ Time'; and the Coachmen's reverb-soaked 'Hush Broken Heart'. Nothing here is much different than the garage sounds happening elsewhere in the country at the time, and nothing here rewrote the history of pop and rock, but it’s fun all the same.” —AllMusic review by Steve Leggett COMP CD $10 SKU:24534

CONGREGATION FOR ANTI FLIRTS -The McAllen, Texas Teen Scene 1965-1967 -Label:CICADELIC RECORDS \Subtitled: The McAllen, Texas Teen Scene 1965-1967. "From 1965 to 1967, McAllen was the happening scene for some of the wildest music to emanate from Texas in the '60s. The label that played host to these bands was Jimmy Nichol's Pharaoh Records and this album contains the best the label had to offer. Not only were the records superlative, but today they are considered some of the rarest finds for collectors of '60s garage bands. Singles by Pharaoh artists such as The Headstones, The Cavaliers, and Christopher and The Souls go for over a grand apiece, if they can be located. Congregation For Anti-Flirts Inc. also contains in depth coverage on the McAllen bands with rare photos, radio charts, and interviews, making this album a journey to pharaoh's valley that can't be missed. The Esquires formed in 1965 and recorded four singles, mixing folk-rock with a hard edged sound. The wild 'Come On Come On' and 'Judgment Day' are what make The Esquires legendary today. DOWNER-ROCK-ASYLUM (extremely rare downer-rock tracks) Label:AUDIO ARCHIVES A special hard-hitting selection of live and extremely rare downer-rock tracks featuring historically important material by very early Judas Priest and UFO plus Bedlam. Also, pre-Judas Priest outfit The Flying Hat Band led by Glenn Tipton. Amazingly, Audio Archives now present unique material from Rob Halford's first ever official Priest concert and even more staggeringly, the last Priest gig with original singer Al Atkins and drummer Chris Congo Campbell from April 1973. The lengthy composition 'Morpheus' is one of Atkins' finest moments. 'Red Light Lady' plus two other songs showcase the impactful, yet nervous arrival of Halford during that crucial crossover period. Truly significant recordings of huge appeal to all Priest fans. Other bands featured are Hackensack who deliver a fierce medley to kick things off plus Welsh heavies Budgie and the primordial Albert Monk with a deranged vocalist and a brutal, bass heavy style of 1970. An 80 minute onslaught of undiluted downer-rock from quarter inch masters of excellent sound quality throughout. COMP CD $16 SKU:21275

RADIO DAYS -RAVE ON! (powerpop Plimsouls/Paul COllins style) SAALE!Label:SOUNDFLAT 'Rave On!' is the fourth album from the Radio Days and features ten powerpop gems. Taking the Paul Collins' Beat and The Plimsouls as references, the songs of the album take a metaphorical trip from the scratching '70s riffs, back to beatlesque vibes, moving across the British pub-rock of the Elvis Costello-era and through the '90s powerpop of Teenage Fanclub and Weezer. LP $19 SKU:24495

RAIN- 1971 The Lost Album -Label:JARGON The Lost Album, a collection of original songs that the band recorded in the summer of 1971, was originally planned to be a follow up to their first record, RAIN-Live Christmas Night, which came out on the band's label, Whazoo Records, in early 1971. LP $24 SKU:22780

RAUNCH - Total Raunch (savage '60s heavy fuzz )-Label:BREAK A WAY Mid-'60s garage-punk from Ossining, NY. In the short time of the band's existence, The Raunch released one scorching 7-inch, contributed a cool Paul Revere cover to the collectable local 'Battle Of The Bands' compilation and recorded notable covers of 'Hey Joe' and John D. Loudermilk's 'Tobacco Road'. This one-sided LP collects all those five tracks and adds a 4-page info sheet, including rare pix. The two songs from the single, originally issued by Bazaar Records, are the crude garage track 'A Little While Back' b/w the more moody 'I Say You're Wrong'. Though we only get five tracks, there's enough energy, sharpness and garage-punk excitmenet to fill a complete album. LP $15 SKU:16485

REAL EYES-ST + A4 size, leatherette, soft cover 90-page book with drawings and lyricsLabel:WIZARD Rare local US private pressing from 1981. Described thus by one writer: "Dreamy all over, with progressive folk elements; flat out psychedelic rock in some tracks. Interesting and thoughtful songwriting. A great discovery!!!”; described elsewhere as "sounds running the gamut from soft folk, to psych heavy metal,” and also as "tasty and creative stuff throughout,” by a third scribe…. and this way in Acid Archives:"One of the best 1980s discoveries, this is pretty wild stuff, has a crude garage edge, especially when it gets heavy. The songwriting is pretty interesting and thoughtful, and as private press LPs go, this is distinctive and memorable enough to explain why psych dealers jumped on its bandwagon. A lot of the lyrics are pretty stoned. There is a lot going on here, with enough weird hooks and surprising moments to give any listener a fair amount of kicks. I like side two, especially the closing 'Visions of Obscurity V,' better than side one. In the long run, whether this will be a keeper for any individual listener will probably be determined by the insane 12-minute 'Madman’s Game,' an elaborate epic that encapsulates everything distinctive about this record.” —Acid Archives LP $40 SKU:24383

REDUCERS-Cruise to Nowhere (70s w catchy melodies and killer licks) Label:RAVE ON 1985 followup to Let’s Go. Inner sleeve features unique art and full lyrics100% analog mastering and pressing. "There were absolutely no gimmicks, false pretenses towards stardom, or slick attitude; they were the real deal." - AllMusic, Cruise To Nowhere was the result of two weeks in the studio with a handful of songs, some finished, most unfinished and some unwritten. The resulting LP was surprisingly consistent given the haphazard nature of the recording, and college radio once again picked up on the album's standout track "Fistfight at the Beach." Another regional tour followed, and the wear and tear of the road soon shown its strain on the boys from New London. It would be another 3 years until The Reducer's next release. LP $14 SKU:24472

REDUCERS-Guitar Bass, Drums (70s w catchy melodies and killer licks) Label:RAVE ON Triumphant final LP featuring the anthemic "Don't Ya Wanna Rock" and "My Problem" with guest vocals from Mark Mulcahy (Miracle Legion, Polaris). The guitar riffs are tight and loud, and the melodies take unerring aim at that part of your brain that feeds them onto an endless loop for your continued (and continual) listening pleasure. SLAVE-The Lover, the Madman and the Poet (70s downer psych)Label:SEELIE COURT Slow, echo-laden and atmospheric, using a psyched out twangy guitar and Doors- esque vocals intoning strange and twisted tales: a depressed Jim Morrison colliding with Hank Marvin and Lord Byron in a sonic suicide pact of downer psych prog mystery. SPARKLES -THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS Texas 60s garage (+7"/CD)-Label:JUKEBOX MUSIC FACTORY The Sparkles were associated with the garage-band and psychedelic rock scene of 1960s Texas, as epitomized by their classic underground hit 'No Friend Of Mine'. The line-up changed few times before 1962, and Stanley Smith finally recruit Harold "Lucky" Floyd (drums and vocals), Donnie Roberts (guitar) and Bobby Smith (bass). Their first recording was the single 'U.T.' under the small label Caron. This third incarnation proved a great hit among the clubs of West Texas, notably the Music Box and The Village Swinger. Indeed, in 2000, local legend Joe Ely described them as the "city's best rock'n'roll band" in the history of the Lubbock music scene published by Texas Monthly. Interestingly, The Sparkles boasted a pair of drummers, with one, the flamboyant Harold Floyd, also lending his voice to their performances. 1966 would constitute a turning point for The Sparkles. Larry Parks -drummer for Roy Orbison, turned producer in Nashville, Tennessee- invited them to sign with Hickory Records, the historic music label founded by Roy Acuff and Fred Rose in 1954. The band came up with 'The Hip', which proved an immediate hit in Austin and extremely popular within the fraternity scene at the University of Texas. On a roll, The Sparkles then recorded 'Something You Said' followed by 'Jack And The Beanstalk'. In 1967, The Sparkles, already a decade old, recorded their chef-d'oeuvre 'No Friend Of Mine', with Nunn's raging guitar riffs and Floyd's remarkably tense vocals. This fiery tour de force would be consecrated by its inclusion on the first CD set of the legendary compilation 'Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968'. Following their final single, 'Hipsville 29 B.C.', for Hickory Records, The Sparkles once again entered rocky waters, with Nunn and Holt finally deciding to throw in the towel in 1968. Floyd, Smith and Marriot immediately set sail for California, along the way renaming their group The Pearly Gate. This brief interlude would include a handful of appearances on the ABC sitcom 'Judd, For The Defense'. Legend has it, they were also scheduled to perform before Bobby Kennedy the evening of his tragic assassination on June 5th 1968... Returning to Texas, Floyd, Smith and Marriot resurrected The Sparkles, bringing into the fold Steve Weisberg, future guitarist for John Denver. But Floyd's departure in 1975 for California to join Red Wilder Blue spelled the end of this group's 15-year musical odyssey, a tumultuous journey typical of such modest rock'n'roll heroes posthumously crowned by multiple thematic compilations. However, the one you're now holding constitutes the very first anthology dedicated to these incredible Texans LP $32 SKU:21875
