PAUL COLLINS gets a nice review in UK Americana: "Out Of My Head" is an unashamedly nostalgic album, hearkening back to a classic ’60s sound with jangly Rickenbacker, stomping drums and songs about music and girls and dreams of the future that should be taken at face value.READ MORE
HANDSOME JACKscores 8 out of 10 from DISTORTED SOUND MAGAZINE: The New York trio have received praise from their fellow travelling rockers such Chris Robinson (CRB, BLACK CROWES), Zachary Gabbard (BUFFALO KILLERS) and Ben McLeod of ALL THEM WITCHES, who produced their new record. During anxiety and uncertainty ridden times, the album Everything’s Gonna Be Alright will be exactly what the doctor ordered. The album begins with Keep On and within the first few seconds of the track, you are already smiling. You may even bob your head along to the beat or rejoicing in the soulful ambience the song gives off. That track alone entices the listener in to see what the rest of the album has to offer.READ MORE

CHILLIWACK - All Over You(Canadian 70s pop) LAST COPIES Label:PACEMAKER Chilliwack rose from the ashes of The Collectors: while spending time in California, the Collectors had been signed to a record deal. After a pair of albums and a string of radio singles between 1967 and 1969, and tours with the likes of The Doors and Jefferson Airplane, The Collectors were dead… and up sprung Chilliwack. The band released an eponymous double album set a year later (1971), featuring the classics ‘Lonesome Mary,’ ‘Music For A Quiet Time,’ and the seventeen-minute long ‘Night-Morning.’ To sort out any confusion, fans refer to the first Chilliwack album as "The Mask Album" and this as "The Double Album" as it was originally... guess what? a double album. From the back of the album: "A few words about the music... Our objective in the studio was to get as much life into the music as we could. Side One contains songs we hope are suitable for AM play. "Changing Reels," on Side Two, is a long sectional composition. The lead vocals in the last section are improvisations, and the song was written around then afterwards. "Music For a Quiet Time" was performed by Bill and Claire sitting in an echo chamber for a couple of hours. "Night-Morning" is the result of a studio full of instruments and microphones set up to record any free-form music we might want to play. Ross sat at the organ and started to play sounds with hands, head and elbows. Bill and Claire joined in with piano, flute and vocals, and the piece grew from there. We hope you find something here for you. CD $15 SKU:19932

COLOR HUMANO -II(Argentine Hendrix-Style Rock) FACING FORWARD IMAGE MINI SLV. - Label:MICROFON Argentinian import. Reissue on Cd of debut album by Argentian power trio strongly influenced by JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE, CREAM aswell as GROUNDHOGS and MAY BLITZ. Featured ex-ALMENDRA members. Contains some excellent guitar work by EDELMIRO MOLINARI. import
After Almendra broke up, three extremely important Argentine groups emerged: Pescado Rabioso, Aquelarre and Color Humano. Color Humano was a power trio influenced by Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, as well as groups like Groundhogs or May Blitz. The name was taken from the song penned by Edelmiro Molinari (leader and author of almost all their repertoire) for the first Almendra LP. Besides Molinari’s extraordinary guitar, the first line-up included Rinaldo Rafanelli on bass and the versatile David Lebón (Polifemo, Pappo’s Blues) on drums. The first LP begins with a nice melody sung by Gabriela (Molinari’s wife), backed up by acoustic guitar and vocals. Some energetic stuff follows (‘Silbame oh cabeza,’ featuring ex-Almendra Rodolfo García on drums, and ‘Introducción polenta’) together with quieter ones (the instrumental ‘El hachazo,’ ‘Larga vida al sol,’ and ‘Humberto’). All themes feature the ever-present guitar. Soon after the album’s release, David Lebón left to join Pescado Rabioso and was replaced by Oscar Moro (ex-Los Gatos and Huinca). The band was much more solid with this new line-up. Between March and June 1973, Color Humano recorded enough songs for a double album. Due to business decisions the album was released as two separate LPs on the newly created Talent label. The cover of the first volume featured a drawing of the members of the group facing forward, while the second volume, showed a drawing of them facing backwards. The new songs were richer and more elaborate, spanning different rhythms and styles. The first record of this unreleased 2-LP set is great. ‘Sangre del sol’ (featuring female jazz singer Egle Martin on percussion) has an uptempo Latin rhythm; ‘La tierra del gitano’ is a slow song; ‘Humanoides’ (featuring Rinaldo on organ and Edelmiro on piano) is a potent effort; ‘Un blues para Adelina’ is a blues. The second part of the uneleased 2-LP set is just as good: ‘Hombre de las cumbres’ is energetic and complex; ‘Mañana por la noche’ is a simple blues-rock joyful ditty; ‘A través de los inviernos’ is a hard answer to Gabriela’s ‘Haz tu mente al invierno del sur’; ‘Hace casi 2000 años’ begins softly with an angelic vocal interlude, but ends with the power trio at their best; ‘Cosas rústicas’ is reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Little Wing’; ‘Vestidos de agua’ is a beautiful melody (featuring Jorge Cutello on flute) that leaves us repeating the last verse ‘cada vez que te miro/ aumenta mi ilusión "each time I look at you/ my illusion grows). Unfortunately, Color Humano split soon afterwards. Edelmiro and his wife Gabriela moved to Los Angeles. Rinaldo Rafanelli went to play with Sui Generis and Polifemo, among others. Moro later joined La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros and played in many other outfits. CD $12 SKU:4851

CONGREGACION - Viene (one of the pinnacles of Latin American folk/psych)- Label:LION “An undeniably beautiful gem from the early-70s Chilean underground, Congregacion's only album Viene is a rarely heard masterpiece, full of delicate atmospherics and dreamy textures. Congregacion were a group spearheaded by the apparently mythical figure of Antonio Smith, whose progressive and hopeful lyrics (their significant political, philosophical and religious content made them a real "celebration of life"), earned him the enmity of the Chilean military dictatorship; he was forced to flee the country and Viene (plus a rare single), proved to be Congregacion's only releases. Musically, they crafted ballads in an Andean style with ethnic atmospheres—one could say they made a kind of psychedelic folk with progressive leanings. Had things worked out differently, this album might be held in as high regard as comparable masterpieces like say, Milton Nascimento's Clube de Esquina, for example, although Congregacion is far more in a psychedelic vein. The music of Congregacion has an evocative sense of open space, using natural sounds and acoustic textures to foreground Smith's soaring melodies. The results are incredibly beautiful. Like another album, Bulent's Benimle Oynar Misin, it has just the perfect balance plaintively sorrowful acid/folk and gently arranged pop (those Beatles-esque harmonics are impossible to overlook). This is a highly recommended album that is surely one of the pinnacles of Latin American folk/psych CD $12 SKU:9667

DEBRIS - STATIC DISPOSAL (70s acid punk)-Label:ANOPHELES The band were said to be high on acid when they recorded this in Oklahoma in 1975; not surprising then that the result is demented avant-garde proto-punk psychedelia, with modulators and synthesizers, a vibraharp (and more) utilised to good effect; the album is now considered a pivotal mid-70s effort from the American private press underworld, and as such has been hailed in Ugly Things, The Acid Archives, and MOJO (a Jon Savage favorite). And why not? It’s a record which has inspire bands from the Screamers to Nurse With Wound. Debris’ are now seen as one of the most important proto-punk bands of the era, too often snubbed by punk historians who don't want to rewrite their historical templates. This updated second printing features the original album tracks, carefully transferred from the master tapes, plus 40 minutes of unreleased basement recordings from the band's own Subterraneous Static Disposal office in Chickasha, OK in 1975-6. Detailed 28-page booklet has also been updated, and includes extensive notes which detail the band's own first hand experiences. LP edition is a high quality, deluxe, tip-on style heavy jacket sleeve edition of this acid-punk classic, with an additional two sided insert unique to this edition, pressed on black vinyl for the first time since the original pressing in 1976 CD $16 SKU:16775

FINCHLEY BOYS- Everlasting Tributes (1972 heavy stoner psych ) DBL CD Label:REACTION For those who don't know, it's a great wasted heavy psych record, featuring cuts like their hard-rocking reinterpretation of the Kinks song ‘I'm Not Like Everybody Else’, the superb ‘It All Ends’, and the best cut for me, the anti-establishment anthem ‘Restrictions’. This is the only album ever released—and it’s a good one—by this band from Champaign, Illinois. Known for their great live shows and theatrical antics, including some stage work with a live boa constrictor five years before Alice Cooper made it famous, the Finchley Boys were ahead of their time. They started recording in the fall of 1968 and throughout 1969, but those songs would not be heard until the release of "Everlasting Tributes." Although the original album has been bootlegged many times over the decades these pirated releases delivered poor sound quality. This, the first official, definitive, band-authorized CD/digital release for the Finchley's material, was carefully restored from the original master tapes. Considerable time was then spent remastering the tracks to bring them up to modern day standards. The deluxe 2xCD package features a second disc of bonus tracks, entitled "Neverending Tributes," which includes a recently rediscovered trove of recordings from 1968-1969. Also includes a 24-page booklet featuring liner notes by Ugly Things Zine scribe Scott Wilkerson as well as a slew of rare/never-before-seen photos. CD $17 SKU:18035
HACKENSACK -THE FINAL SHUNT(LEGENDARY UK PSYCHBLUES)-Label:AUDIO ARCHIVES Repressed CD. Here are 15 previously unreleased tracks, recorded between 1969-1972. SPACEMEN 3-Live at the New Morning, Geneva, Switzerland, 18.05.1989-Label:SPACE AGE (UK) First CD edition of Live at the New Morning, Geneva, Switzerland, 18.05.1989 by Spacemen 3, originally released in 2014 as a limited-edition vinyl-only release on Swiss label Mental Groove Records. Fold-out card wallet featuring liner notes by Sonic Boom and previously unseen photographs. Digitally remastered by John A. Rivers at Woodbine Street studio in 2015. Recorded in Geneva, Switzerland, during Spacemen 3's 1989 European tour, while the band was in sublime form, this release further cements their reputation as one of the most influential and seminal bands of the space rock and drone rock worlds. As Sonic Boom recalls, "I seem to remember this show more distinctly than most, and always did. Spacemen 3 was a band not overly loved in their day. It was tough, or at least uneasy. Musically people thought we were some sort of twisted joke. Which in some ways we were. You needed to be bloody-minded to make this music at that time. The set presented here, is as it was . . . except the show was twice this length. We tuned and smoked for almost as long as we played. And then our disenfranchise moment, installed to filter the wheat from the chaff in our audiences -- the sprawling 'Suicide' wheeled out here in a long mischievous version. We slipped away mid-song amongst much fog and dry ice. With taped down keys and feeding back guitars propped against our speaker cabs keeping the song pulsating and screaming. Disappearing back down to the already too familiar dressing room. We rolled large smokes and cracked fresh drinks. And finally after an extended 'break' re-appeared on stage. Not to wind down as normal at that juncture, but to re-fire up the piece for a further onslaught. Extending the maelstrom as bloody mindedly as we could. We always 'sensed' when we were unwanted . . . which was most of the time we left the cosy confines of our white 'sprinter' van. Never get out of the van . . . fucking tigers! But then again . . . maybe . . . just maybe . . . and it's only a maybe . . . maybe l don't remember a thing." CD $21 SKU:17457
SPACEMEN 3-TAKING DRUGS TO MAKE MUSIC TO TAKE (1986)-Label:SPACE AGE A remastered and official CD-edition of this bootleg, originally out in 1990 on the legendary/notorious Father Yod imprint. TERRY & THE PIRATES- Too Close For Comfort (70s )-Label:ACADIA Twenty nine years after the release of the original Too Close For Comfort comes the third issue of this priceless and timeless music from San Francisco's own Terry & The Pirates.” Another view: “Probably only remembered today as one of the many bands graced by the guitarwork of John Cipollina following his departure from Quicksilver Messenger Service, and as a footnote in the career of Nicky Hopkins, Terry and the Pirates deserve much greater recognition. Although Cipollina’s feral guitar is undoubtedly essential to their charms, the work of Terry Dolan himself should not be underestimated. His voice is an acquired taste, a strange mixture of David Crosby and Captain Beefheart, but as such, it’s impressively distinctive. Meanwhile, his songwriting mines that same rich vein of American folk which yielded ‘Pride Of Man’ (so memorably covered by Quicksilver). The best songs on this collection of various live and studio recordings are certainly Dolan’s own. Whilst a version of Jackie Wilson’s ‘Higher & Higher’ might be entertainingly audacious, covers of ‘Mystery Train’ and ‘Don’t Do It’ aren’t going to make anybody forget those by The Band, despite some impressive sparring between Cipollina and second guitarist Greg Douglass on the latter. In this context, tracks like ‘Inside and Out’ and ‘Inlaws and Outlaws’ distinguish themselves as fine examples of original Californian rock n’ roll. Even if none of this is especially ground-breaking or epoch-defining music, it’s played with spirit and any fans of West Coast music who might have easily overlooked it should be sure to rectify their mistake. THOMAS, IRMA - In Between Tears digipack Label:ALIVE
Produced by legendary soul singer songwriter/producer Jerry Williams Jr., aka Swamp Dogg, and featuring Duane Allman on two songs, Irma Thomas‘ "In Between Tears" is finally back on vinyl, lovingly remastered, and restored to its original cover for the first time since 1973. The CD digipack version also includes her second single for Canyon records, as well as newly penned liner notes.
"A lost classic that captures deep soul at its most poignant and resonant." -- AMG
"Initially released in 1973 on the homegrown Fungus Records label, it has remained well under the radar for the past 40 years. It is one of the finest examples of early '70s soul I have ever heard." -- Blinded By Sound CD $10 SKU:15260
WILDE FLOWERS- ST ( 60s Brit pop ) booklet is packed with photos, cuttings and extensive sleeve notes - Label:VOICEPRINT Booklet is packed with photos, cuttings and extensive sleeve notes from the band members. It is simplistic to merely say that The Wilde Flowers were a popular music group based in the vicinity of Canterbury, England. Although the band name itself may not ring any bells for too many people (they never released any records during the band’s lifetime, from 1964-1967), it was a pillar of the legendary Canterbury scene of the mid-to-late sixties. The Wilde Flowers have assumed an almost mythical status simply because of the musicians that passed through them. Band members included, at various times, Hugh Hopper (bass), Robert Wyatt (drums, vocals), Kevin Ayers (vocals) (all soon to form the Soft Machine), as well as the basis of influential Canterbury band, Caravan: Richard Sinclair (rhythm guitar, vocals), Pye Hastings (guitar, vocals), David Sinclair (keyboards), Richard Coughlan (drums) and Brian Hopper (lead guitar, alto saxophone, vocals). This CD is the very first commercially available record of the Wilde Flowers sessions. A number of tracks on this disc were recorded at a session at Regent Sound Studios on the 6 August 1969, though by this time, the careers of Soft Machine and Caravan were already underway; these tracks are of interest as they feature tracks recorded by Wyatt, Hugh Hopper and Pye Hastings: ‘Impotence’ (Hopper/Wyatt), ‘She Loves To Hurt ‘(Hopper), and ‘Memories’ (Hopper). A fourth track, ‘The Big Show’ (Brian Hopper), also sees Brian Hopper joining in. Thus one of progressive rock's most important bands came to an end with the formation of the Canterbury scene's most popular groups, Soft Machine and Caravan. Not all the members that passed through the ranks of The Wilde Flowers ended up in these two bands. Brian Hopper also formed the short-lived band Zobe, some of whose recordings also appear on this disc. CD $10 SKU:14884
ZZ HILL - Brand New ZZ HILL - digipack w 8 bonus tracks and liners Swamp Dogg Series # 10Label:ALIVE The CD DIGIPAK comes with 8 bonus tracks and NEW LINER NOTES by producer Swamp Dogg.
Blues singer ZZ Hill first made records for Atlantic, Kent, and in 1971 scored his first big hit for United Artists, followed by others on Columbia. In the 80 s he single-handedly started a blues revival in the USA with the smash-it "Down Home Blues". "The Brand New ZZ Hill" was originally marketed as a Blues Opera, an oddity back in the early seventies, and was written by Swamp Dogg and Gary U.S. Bonds. When released it hit both the Billboard Top 200 and the R&B charts and sold over a million singles via six releases. The album has been REMASTERED for this release and is presented here with its ORIGINAL ALBUM GATEFOLD COVER. CD $10 SKU:15590
#043-CDR (Cambodian Rocks artists) Label:KHMER ROCKS Several volumes—all CDR’s, as that is the way most music is sold amongst the Cambodian communities worldwide. These discs contain music from artists featured on the “Cambodian Rocks” series of compilations... although in this case, all the text is in Khmer, so good luck finding out what the tracks are called, or who is singing them. The music on these CDR’s demonstrates a much wider variety of styles than you hear on the “Cambodian Rocks” volumes, ranging far beyond the rock idiom into the land of what one might call an Ethiopiques sound, with Latin music, orchestra, and rough folkloric recordings all on display. A treat for the true cultural crate digger... you can’t get more down and dirty—or cheaper—than this. Very limited quantities.COMP CD $10 SKU:20501

FILE UNDER MALE VOCAL- VA - 60s British Last copies- -Label:PSYCHIC CIRCLE (UK) The Golden Age of the Beat Balladeer. After enjoying countless compilation albums of psych, beat, garage, girl groups, instrumentals, soul, exotica etc., the Psychic Circle label now releases a compilation which concentrates on that most popular of '60s phenomena, the British male vocalist. These are great tracks and performances that can't really be considered beat, soul or psych, but at the same time conjure a similar sort of mental image. Solid, classy songs performed by great singers which readily evoke the sense of excitement and freshness prevalent in that decade. As legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond) expounds, "What I was trying to assemble for this album was a selection of quality male vocal, with a kind of pop/beat feel. The kind of thing you might have heard in any London discotheque alongside the beat groups, the Stateside soul-sounds, the groovy girls and burgeoning psych riffs. Nothing too MOR or fey, just cool guys doing what they did best. I reckon it's a long overdue examination of a hitherto overlooked genre. It doesn't really need a label, but if you want to give it one, just file under - male vocal." Artists include: Mickey Clarke, Jason Cord, Gerry Deville, Dominic Grant, Nicholas Hammond, Christian Ward, Graham Bell, Jerry Page, Dane Hunter, Brian Keith, Keith Powell, Don Adams, Neil Landon, Greg Hunter, Dave Walton, Danny Street, Dorian Gray, Rudi Bennett, Ronnie Jones, and James Royal. PSYCHEDELIC ROCK MEXICAN- VA LAST COPIES (Stunning heavy psychedelic rock from 1971 ) Paper mini slv replica - Label:VAM RECORDS Stunning heavy psychedelic rock from 1971 by three virtually unknown Mexican groups! Four tracks from the amazing hard-driving and funky EP by Los Papos (released by Orfeon in 1971); four previously unreleased tracks by Los Free Minds, and the only two extant songs by Polvo, an amazing heavy psychedelic rock group from Nuevo Laredo. Los Free Minds was a Mexican Psychedelic Rock trio, formed in 1970 by Jorge Aguilera (guitar, vocals), Jesús Perez [El Jali] and drummer Ernesto Ontiveros. Although invited, the band could not take part in the legendary rock event the Festival de Avándaro held in September 1971; after that, rock music was banned for many years in Mexico, which killed the careers of many bands. In the same year, shortly before their disbandment, Los Free Minds recorded an LP for Orfeón, but only four tracks from it were released as an EP, leaving tracks in the can which debut here. SWITCHED ON BOB-A Tribute to Boob Moog-Label:BELLA CASA Bob Moog and his glorious, poetic instruments are the historic foundation of electronic music. "Switched on Bob" is a tribute to the late Bob Moog. The concept started with the enthusiasm of Maurizio Er Man Mansueti (Transistors), Luca Luke Cirillo (Transistors), and Paolo Bruno Margoni (Margoo) in September 2005 at the Transistors’ Lab. The idea was to collect materials for a multimedia-CD with the participation of a selected group of artists who were each to contribute a piece inspired by Moog’s huge influences on music, design, graphic illustration, or simply inspired by the beautiful sounds of Moog’s own instruments. Since Bob Moog was neither composer nor recording artist, this tribute relies on artists performing relatively short synthesizer pieces Sometimes the results are clever and touching: the Transistors’ track, 'Switched on Bob,' which has neat sound effects and chant-like unison singing supporting a soft lead, is pretty terrific. And Funki Porcini’s take on Henry Mancini’s 'Moon River' (called 'Moog River') is a natural for synth. Timeless Sonic Factory’s rockin’ 'The Day the Moog Stood Still' samples dialogue from the great 1950s sci-fi film The Day the Earth Stood Still. This is not a conventional compilation, but instead an authentic project dedicated to the father of modern synthesizers. COMP CD $8 SKU:19078

ALIVE AT THE DEEP BLUES FESTIVAL - BBQ SAUCE RED VINYL LTD. to 400 copies W Radio Moscow, Left Lane Cruiser , John the Conqueror and more. Label:ALIVE Color vinyl is exclusive to Bomp w/ download card (30 minutes of additional music) Alive At The Deep Blues Fest recaptures the loose and -spontaneous feel of live albums produced in the Golden Age of rock’n’roll.
The album was recorded live this summer at the Deep Blues Festival during three glorious (sold-out) days of great music, Southern-style BBQ and camaraderie between musicians, fans and friends alike, far from the corporate sterility of many larger modern music fests. Chris Johnson’s festival successfully revived the communal spirit of late ‘60s and early ‘70s music gatherings, evoking the vibe of a large summer picnic with family, friends, good food and great music.
BUFFALO KILLERS and RADIO MOSCOW turned in super heavy sets soaked in psychedelia and reverb, while LEE BAINS III & The GLORY FIRES fiercely ripped through their show with a blistering set of songs steeped in Southern rock, R&B, soul, gospel and punk. BRIAN OLIVE and his backing band melded soulful R&B with technicolor garage-pop for their early daytime set, while HENRY’S FUNERAL SHOE (the Welsh duo), LEFT LANE CRUISER and newcomers JOHN THE CONQUEROR perhaps kept closest to the Deep Blues curriculum with their respectively raunchy and heavily amplified modern interpretations of rural gutbucket Delta Blues.
Grab a copy of Alive At The Deep Blues Fest, invite a bunch of good friends over for some food & drink, and PLAY IT LOUD!

EL PASO ROCK - Vol 6 - Label:NORTON Raw rock from the El Paso scene of the early 60s – most of it material produced by local music hound Calvin Boles – a force as important to that scene as Lee Hazlewood was to Phoenix! Boles has a great ear for a sharp guitar line – and really manages to bring the best out of all the players here, giving the tunes an echoey feel that's mighty nice – and which really serves to fan the sparks of genius into a much longer-burning flame! Norton's done a great job with this volume – and have managed to unearth some rare Bobby Fuller tracks, along with gems from contemporaries on the Yucca and Exeter labels. Titles include "Black Out" and "Tickler" by The Sherwoods, "Hot Rod Ford" by DY & The Motivaters, "Lonely" by David Hayes & The Pawns, "Pawn" by The Pawns, "You Hold My Letters" by Bill Taylor & The Sherwoods, "Judy" by The Chancellers, "Dance To The Palisades" by Frank Gonzales & The Palisades, and "You're In Love" and "Say Honey" by Bobby Fulle COMP LP $13 SKU:15231
