FONTANA - "I Feel Like A Jerk" (DIY punk) - Label:X RECORDS Nice three-track EP here from Michigan's Fontana, the first I've heard from these kids who share label-space with other recent area phenoms Tyvek, Terrible Twos and Frustrations. "Dumb Luv" is a quite Brit-sounding aloof and near goofy punker with a very Raw Records vibe and fun-sounding whooping vocals. "(Having A) Fun Time" exhibits some thuggy guitar-rock feel with elements of classic Detroit rock energy. Two ace A-Side cuts. "You're Obscene" fills the flip side with a Frustrations-like busy-ness, with a quiet song-within-a-song guitar interlude/workout bookended by energetic Tyvek-like DIY punkitude. A nice companion to their more "famous" stablemates. 45 RPM $3 SKU:7085

HIGHER STATE -(CONSIDER IT) A DEBT REPAID -Label:13 O'CLOCK BW IN A WORLD THAT JUST DON'T CARE`` The Higher State is back with a new top-notch two-sider! Picking up right where they left off with their last full-length album, the group has dialed back their sound a bit further for an even more stripped-down affair. Both songs, one each written by band members Marty Ratcliffe and Paul Messis, are really shot through the prism of '66 as the group once again amply displays 60's-style garage moves meshed with folk-punk vibes, whilst as usual adding incisive and thought-provoking lyrics to the mix. Mastered by Crypt Records head-honcho Tim Warren, the new single comes housed in a old-school, die-cut company sleeve with an insert and download code included. So continues the journey for the Higher State!“The Higher State are far more than a pudding bowl re-creation. They're a valid voice of the New Bohemia; Time bandits who have shared cokes 'n smokes with Gene Clark and Roky!” - Jon “Mojo” Mills, Shindig! Magazine 45 RPM $6 SKU:16822

HIGHER STATE -EMBROOKS RELATED- I JUST PRETEND / AIN'T IT HARD( 60s Garage/Texas Fuzz Punk ) - Label:13 O’CLOCK RECORDS The Higher State are back with their third single on 13 O' Clock! Special 7” release with UK-style punch-out center holes! Following the path of their last release, the Freakout at the Gallery album, the new single finds the group as usual in excellent, top-notch form. The group pounds out a new moody and broody original, I Just Pretend, on the A side, and peels through a nice rendition of the folk-rock staple Ain't It Hard on the flipside. With lyrically-provocative vocal harmonies dolloped generously onto their blend of jangly folk-punk and 60's-style garage-psychedelia riffage, the Higher State delivers the goods once again in spades! 45 RPM $7 SKU:14640

SAN UL LIM - THE FIRST CD ( 1977 psych power pop garage ) - Label:GRANADILLA MUSIC (GERMANY) - Reissue of South Korean trio San Ul Lim's 1977 debut album, a throwback to the best psychedelic power pop and garage stuff you could get in the UK and USA ten years before its release. Gentle garage-psych with a dreamy west coast flair, tons of awesome fuzzed-out guitars, heartwarming vocal melodies, and Korean-language lyrics, all executed by highly skilled musicians.Heavily reminiscent of The Zombies, though San Ul Lim play in a much more direct fashion; other reference points include The Flies (UK, pre-T2) and The Petards (Germany).Highly recommended for fans of proto-garage beat with psychedelic tinges from 1965 to 1967. Gentle garage-psych with a dreamy west coast flair and tons of awesome fuzzed-out guitars... with Korean-language lyrics. Originally released in 1977, South Korean trio San Ul Lim's debut album sounds like the best psychedelic power pop and garage stuff you could get in the UK and USA ten years before its release. One of the most popular acts on the Korean scene, San Ul Lim had exactly this typical 1966 garage sound, with fuzzy axes and some thin but sympathetic Farfisa organs. These compositions were conceived between 1971 and 1975, and, with their heartwarming vocal melodies and gifted musicianship, are heavily reminiscent of The Zombies, though San Ul Lim play in a much more direct fashion. Their music represents a movement from early beat to heavier and darker garage rock, which finally shifted into psychedelic rock. Fans of proto-garage beat with psychedelic tinges from 1965 to 1967 will go wild for this album. Other reference points include The Flies (UK, pre-T2) and The Petards (Germany). A lovely flashback to the golden age of music. CD $16 SKU:16721

SHAKERS, LOS- CONFERENCIA/OTRA VEZ 68/71 Uruguayan Rock/-Label:CIRCOLO DEL DIS Two lp's on 1 CD. In 1967, "Los Shakers" begin to write what would be considered the "Sergeant Pepper's" by "Los Shakers", "La conferencia secreta del Toto's bar" (Toto's bar secret conference) and in 1968 they finish the arrangements and decide the album concept. The name of the LP is a satire of the American presidents conference that was held in Punta del Este in april 1967, and Toto was the owner of a bar where the Uruguayan musicians met. "La Conferencia" is a complex LP and "Los Shakers" anticipated the fusion of rock with candombe, bossa nova and tango. Subsequently, Hugo and Osvaldo recorded a bossa-jazz LP called "La bossa nova de Hugo y Osvaldo" (Hugo and Osvaldo's bossa-nova), where all of them play the instruments and put an end to the pending contract with the record company, also considered a "must" by bossa-jazz lovers. In 1971, Caio and Peln attempt to take once again the rock style and record an LP called "Otra vez en estudio" (Once again at the studio), inviting for this project three Uruguayan musicians from the "old times" of the 60s, three members of "Los Inocentes" (The Innocents), the twins Hctor and Carlos Capobianco (brothers of Peln) and Rubm Viera (Lorenzo). This LP intends to continue the Shakers' melodic line but without the Fattoruso brothers, and it is a different thing, although it presents some compositions with good harmonies and the album is very well considered by collectors CD $12 SKU:8884

SNEETCHES & CHRIS WILSON -Flaming Groovies related - ST ( Flamin Groovies related power pop ) SAALE - Label:MARILYN Chris Wilson & the Sneetches is more of a necessity for diehard Flamin Groovies fans than for diehard Sneetches fans, as the San Francisco power pop quartet are simply the backing band here. SPEAKEASY- ST (great British R&B style ) - Label:PAISLEY ARCHIVE UK If ever the term ‘Super Group’ applied to a band on the Mod scene, it applies to Speakeasy. Featuring Brett “Buddy” Ascott (The Chords/The Rage/Pope), Simon Stebbing (Purple Hearts/RT3), Mark le Gallez (The Risk/Thee Jenerators), Fay Hallam (Makin Time/Prime Movers/Fay Hallam Trinity) and the late, great, Mike Evans (The Action/Mighty Baby), the band came together as the ‘House Band’ for the Mod Aid 20 single in January 2005. They subsequently recorded a glorious EP at Toe Rag for Biff Bang Pow Records later that same year featuring one song each from Simon, Mark & Fay (included on this CD). Sadly Mike is no longer with us, but with Mic Stonier taking up bass duties (and Fay busy on other projects) the nucleus reassembled to record a heartfelt cover of The Actions’ “Shadows and Reflections” in tribute to Mike, and carried on to record enough material for Speakeasy to release this full length CD on the Paisley Archive imprint of Detour Records. So what is it like? There’s a real British R&B feel on some of the tracks (‘Let’s Roll’) and some great musicianship too (‘Your Precious Ways’), with a number of songs that could be contenders for A-sides of singles (‘The Blues Have Got Me’, ‘Red Wine Song’, ‘Soul Searching’, ‘Love and Understanding’) and Fay’s Hammond masterpiece, ‘Seeds’. A great album of quality songs. CD $14 SKU:15752

SPEAKERS, LOS - 7” SIZE SLEEVE W 20 PAGE BOOKLET. Ltd edition IN SAALE LTD ED -Label:SALGAELSO EN EL MARAVILLOSSSO MUNDO INGESON - Limited 1000 copies DELUXE CD-reissue of classic psychedelic album from Comlumbia. As wonderful as can be. Yoursurely know this legendary psychedelic album, recorded in 1968 and never yet officially reissued until now. The album was recorded in the Ingeson studios, who had just bought the newest equipment and thought Speakers were the perfect band to work with it and try to get the best results from the equipment. The Ingeson guys offered the studios to the band for no money, only asking them to mention in the album that it was recorded there, so to make a publicity for the studios. Hence the title of the album "In the marvelous world of Ingeson"!!! Musically, the album is as psychedelic as you may dream from a South American '68 album. With acid guitar, sound effects, playing with repetitive sounds and incisive lyrics in Spanish language. A total masterpiece of weird psychedelia that went nearly unnoticed in Columbia even being the Speakers the bigger name in that country's rock scene of the 60's. What makes this release even better is the deluxe treatment it had. Fantastic remastered sound, a 7x 7 CD cover including a 20 page full colour booklet (20x20 too!), and even a replica of the supposed LSD bubblegum that was included in the original album. STEVE AND THE BOARD - Complete - with 21 page booklet Label:PLAYBACK The Australian band Steve & the Board made some British Invasion-style records in the mid-'60s, getting some success in Australia with the singles "The Giggle Eyed Goo" and "I Call My Woman Hinges 'Cause She's Something to Adore." All the members were in their late teens when they recorded for the Spin label, and their progress was no doubt eased by having a lead singer, Steve Kipner, whose dad Nat Kipner was the head of Spin Records. The group wasn't a mere manufactured boy band, though, as in fact much of their material was original, contributed by several members (though most often guitarist Carl Keats). In their blend of British R&B and pop/rock influences, their recordings were fairly solid straight-ahead rock that criss-crossed attributes of the Beatles, the Byrds, Merseybeat, and raunchier groups like the Pretty Things. They issued just one album, though, and a couple of non-LP singles CD $14 SKU:17912

STUD- ST ( Texas ‘75 private hard rock rarity ) -Label:OUT-SIDER (SPAIN) - Remastered reissue of Texas band Stud's 1975 self-titled album, a private hard rock ultra-rarity originally released in an edition of 200.
- Formed in 1974 in Houston, Stud featured the killer lead guitar of 17-year-old genius Tim Williams, the brutal Rickenbacker bass attacks of Paul Eakin, and the solid-as-a-rock drumming of George Lasher.
- Includes color insert with lots of previously unseen photos and liner notes by Paul Eakin telling the band's story for the first time.
- "A three-piece progressive hardrock band that play so well together that it allow them to maneuver through long passages with fresh imagination and not become a stereotypical mid-seventies trio. Guitar wizard delivers unceasing solos with a rhythm section poised in the background acting as a two-man metronome. Only a few copies of this album are known to exist." --Scott "Loopden" Bubrig, The Acid Archives
Private hard rock ultra-rarity from Texas exhumed for the first time. With only 200 copies released in 1975, the Stud album has become a holy grail for collectors. A mystery for many years (all the band members used pseudonyms on the album credits), the band seemed impossible to track down... until now. Formed in 1974 in Houston, Stud featured the killer lead guitar of 17-year-old genius Tim Williams, the brutal Rickenbacker bass attacks of Paul Eakin, and the solid-as-a-rock drumming of George Lasher. The chemistry was born when they first starting played together, and after many rehearsals they decided they were ready to record their first album. So they entered the Barons Studios in Rosenberg, and Stud was the result. Powerful hard rock ("A Woman Like You" and "Jim/Blues"), killer boogie-rock ("Captain Boogie"), hard psychedelic jams (the 13 minutes of "Stud"), and progressive hard rock on the impressive "The War Song." File next to Morly Grey and Incredible Hog. Remastered sound. Color insert with lots of previously unseen photos and liner notes by Paul Eakin telling the band's story for the first time. Bators' first solo album, Disconnected was recorded in Los Angeles following the breakup of the Dead Boys. It's got more of a garage pop/Nuggets vibe than the work of the Dead Boys-he even covers the great Electric Prunes track 'I Had Too Much Too Dream Last Night.' But even though he professes to be an evil boy, he does it with a charm that's pretty irresistible." - Creem. LP $16 SKU:16312

BATORS, STIV - Do you Believe in Magyk- IMPORT Label:EASY ACTION Comes with black inners leeve and 2-sided insert with liner notes "Magyck In Theory & Practice" written by Nina Antonia
Recorded in May 1990, Do You Believe In Magyk? features the last ever recordings made by Stiv Bator (The Dead Boys, The Lords of the New Church), issued briefly in France as The Last Race. The album finds Stiv covering songs by The Ramones, The Young Rascals and The Lollipopp Shoppe, plus a song written especially for the proceedings by Tony James (Generation X, Sigue Sigue Sputnik). He also tackles his own old Lords of the New Church rehearsal song "Two Hearts." Do You Believe In Magyk? boasts contributions from Godfathers guitarist Kris Dollimore and Monte Cristos and ex-Sigue Sigue Sputnik guitarist Neal Whitmore. Both Johnny Thunders and Dee Dee Ramone were originally present for the recordings but due to a disagreement both departed without contributing to the album despite urban myths of the contrary. BBQ - Tie Your Noose Black VINYL -Label:BOMP Records One of Greg Shaw's last signings on BOMP records, and the the latest project from Mark Sultan (from the KING KAHN & BBQ Show, and Les Sexareenos), a man who has slept in the garage all his life. BBQ is not a group, it's the best one-man band since Wilbert Harrison (and no, we're not forgetting the Legendary Stardust Cowboy), doing a raw, soul-shaking style of pre-frat '50s/ early '60s party music--pre-frat frat rock. Take our word for it: with this crazy sound he's puttin' down, you can't sit down! A superb album. LP $14 SKU:12850

BEAT OF THE EARTH- This Record Is an Artistic Statement (U.S. private press psych ) -Label:RADICH Two foundational documents of American private-press psychedelic rock emerge from decades-long shadows, deeply illuminated chapters authored by prototypical "terminally unique" Southern California artist/seeker Phil Pearlman and two of his early, briefly extant bands. From 1967, Phil Pearlman (The Electronic Hole (RAD 002LP) and the majestic Relatively Clean Rivers (ASH 3007CD)) leads a free assemblage of local Southern California acid-heads through loping Velvetica tribal incantations. The Beat of the Earth earns its name in two side-length jams brimming with eastern-tinged luminosity. It is the sun-dappled mirror of The Velvet Underground's "Sister Ray." Instead of the urban decay and black and white pop art of the Warhol scene, The Beat of the Earth represents the same idea, looking west across the Pacific. This comes from the same yet intrinsically polar opposite frame of mind from the VU noise marathons of their epic live shows. Mind-expanding psychedelia done by sun-gobbed hippies that were totally out of step with everything else happening in Southern California of the pop-psych '60s. This record stands as much an outsider statement as ESP-Disk's Cromagnon record (ESPDISK 2001CD/LP), or any of the Swedish bands of the Silence stable. It is a truly zonked masterpiece of tribal hippy culture dosed to the gills! Limited edition of 300.
