CHAINS, THE- I Cried-( 60s garage ) Green vinyl -Label:GET HIP Yesterday Today And Tomorrow - By now, you probably know that Swamp Rats screamer Bob Hocko recorded with the Fantastic Dee-Jays before the Rats wreaked havoc. But even before his talents were revealed in those two combos, Hocko was leading another McKeesport trio entitled the Chains. Formed in the early '60s, the band initially played covers of standards like 'Little Star' and 'Under The Boardwalk' before graduating to Rolling Stones and Kinks covers with the onset of the British Invasion in 1964. They also did their own stuff, and two previously unreleased Hocko originals are presented here for the first time." 45 RPM $5 SKU:12818

CHEMISTRY SET -(COLOR # 1) Kiss Me Vibrate and Smile gatefold ltd ed. - -Label:FRUIT DE MER A new 7" single from The Chemistry Set, one of the key bands behind the late 80s neo-psychedelic movement (they were championed by the likes of Tony Wilson and John Peel). After the small matter of a 17 year break, the band re-formed, and this is their second single on Fruits de Mer since they returned to the fray. Combining two new new songs and a cover of a 80s psych classic, this release oozes sheer class through every orifice, as does the band. Give it a listen - and do your part to ensure there are no more 17 year hiatuses (hiati?) You know it makes sense (which is more than than this press release is achieving so far). Limited to 800 copies - two colour vinyl versions (no CDs or downloads). Released on Fruits de Mer Records' Regal Crabomophone label. Gatefold sleeve. 45 RPM $10 SKU:14543

CIRCUS (NL) -Medusa (unreleased 1968 single w orig artwork ) -Label:PSEUDONYM BW MOTHER MOTHA'S GREAT SUNDANCE. From the ashes of Q65 rose Circus, featuring guitarist Frank Nuyens and drummer Jay Baar. This is their unreleased 1968 single that sees the daylight for the first time, including the original artwork. Circus had everything to become the first Dutch super band, along the lines of a.o. Cream and Blind Faith. In January 1968 guitarist and composer Frank Nuyens and drummer/lyricist Jay Baar rose from the ashes of Q65. Mark Klein (James Mean) joined as keyboardist, Frank Verhoef became the bassist/singer. With them, Nuyens and Baar made the first recordings. Later they went into the studio with producer Hans van Hemert, for the complex basis of Mother Motha's Sundance, ment as B-side for the single 'Medusa'. Eventually their recording career never went beyond a test pressing of the single Medusa/Mother Motha's Sundance, as found in the archives of Hitweek. The single was shelved, but a sleeve for the original 45 was apparently printed and recently found in archive. 45 RPM $12 SKU:15567

CRIME - 7X7 BOX SET w booklet plus CD - Label:MUNSTER Despite having independently released the first punk rock single on the US west coast, Crime's legend has never spread beyond a comparatively small but extremely adamant cult. The fact that they only released three singles during their existence is certainly a factor in the lack of recognition afforded them. Probably more significant is the fact that Crime's music and image set them apart from what soon became discernable as the typical punk rock scene. The amphetamine blues lead guitar bursts that responded to the vocal lines in nearly every song, as well as the frequently dispassionate vocals, set them apart from the bandwagon-jumping art-schoolers (who were all too often devoid of rock and roll attitude), as did their carefully cultivated look and their anti-social attitude. Crime compiles the complete recorded legacy of the band fans have come to refer to as San Francisco's first and only rock and roll band. It includes three facsimile reproductions of Crime's original singles and four more 7"s featuring ten tracks recorded from 1977 through '79 and unreleased at the time, among them a "Be Bop a Lula/Peggy Sue" medley unavailable elsewhere until now. The records are accompanied by a 20-page booklet with an extensive band interview by Michael Lucas, photos and memorabilia, plus a special text written by film director and Crime fan Jeff Feuerzeig (The Devil and Daniel Johnston). Includes a CD with all 16 tracks. 45 RPM $65 SKU:16492

DENISE - Boy, What I’ll Do Then (ultimate 60s girl garage nugget)-Label:BIG BEAT BW /CHAOS Highly desirable artefact, one that is not only one of the rarest singles of the 1960s, but the ultimate girl-garage nugget: Boy, What'll You Do Then by DENISE. Denise Kaufman was a founder member of SF hippie mainstays Ace Of Cups but in this 66 stormer, hell hath no fury as the Berkeley wild-child lets loose on her then beau (reputedly future Rolling Stone editor Jann Wenner). The handful of original copies that have turned up, selling for in excess of $8,000, all feature an earlier, weaker take - our reissue utilizes the hyper-rare second mix, which is far more powerful. 45 RPM $12 SKU:15603

DION BLADE / ROCKET 69 - She’s the Bomb - PIC SLV RED Vinyl ( obscure garage Stooges style ) -Label:ROCKIN HOUSE Oh yeah! The Rocket 69 guys put me in mind of the Raw Power Stooges having a punch up with Zen Guerilla in a garage. Someone (Time Steele? Vocalist Dan-O?) can play guitar and lays it all over the two-minutes or so of beautiful noise that's in these tracks. From the minimal biographical details on the sleeve they hail from Richmond, Virginia, and they look less than healthy in the photo. Fantastic production with a brash, roaring guitar sound. Seriously good. The Dion Blade song on the flip is equally short and to the point, although Spinal Tap lyrics like "Open up those bomb bay doors/So I can drop my load" make it unclear how serious/silly they are. 45 RPM $2 SKU:7784

FUNERAL- Have You Seen My Leather Jac et? (rare 80s Punk) -Label:GTA Records Forgotten Long Beach punkers who were dragged back into the jaundiced light via the inclusion of their “Waiting For the Bomb Blast to Arrive” cut on the Bloodstains Across California comp. from the early 90s. They plied a sound aligned with SOCIAL DISTORTION (moody, melodic punk) and they did it surprisingly well. Although Long Beach had its fair share of worthy HC punk bands in the early 80s (THE CREWD, SECRET HATE, etc.) it was a scene that was sadly overshadowed by the whole Huntington Beach/Edison High School thing a few miles down the coast. Which is a shame, cause these guys and their town clearly deserved more. Few articulated that baleful, apocalyptic suburban worldview better. Singer/gtrist Mike Martt went on to drunk-rock infamy playing with the likes of TEX & THE HORSEHEADS, THELONIOUS MONSTER, and THE LOW & SWEET ORCHESTRA, and still roams the backstreets of Signal Hill to this day. CD $10 SKU:4171

GABBARD, ANDY - Fluff digipack w bonus tracks. (BUFFALO KILLERS- Modern Grunge Fuzz Pop with 60’s aura ) -Label:ALIVE W four bonus tracks! Brimming with creativity, Fluff by Andy Gabbard, his debut release as a solo artist on Alive Naturalsound, isn't moving beyond what Andy has done, or will continue to do with Buffalo Killers. Sometimes, ultimately, you find yourself with extra moments and more ideas than one band can develop. So naturally, it made perfect sense to give that inward creative need an outlet. Fluff is the end result.
Cut in one 12-hour studio session, Andy took on the full responsibility of doing a solo album literally. He played every instrument and wrote everything you hear. Reviving an established relationship with Alive Records, on Fluff you can hear the deeply-solid effects of the grunge genre and mid-'90s 'alternative music' in a sonic gestalt. Exhibiting characteristics of fairly recent genres, as well as some classics that surrounded him during his youth, Fluff breaks barriers of seemingly comfortable, unthreatening music cultivating a physical embodiment of Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, latter Beatles and even Brian Wilson!Fluff defines Andy's environment, a creative environment... an environment of ultra-dimensional levels. The days of solo albums being released due to further 'artistic development' past a bands catalog of hits, are over. Buffalo Killers continue their successful run and now, it's not running alone. Fluff is the start of something great and fathers the true sonic beauty and the relative nature of one single person and their soundtrack of nearly unending smiles in a sea of tumultuous frowns. - Shawn Abnoxious CD $10 SKU:16539

The bonus tracks are taken off four earlier studio efforts by The Wizard, all of which will be reissued by Gear Fab in the coming years." CD $10 SKU:10780

GARRIE, NICK - NIGHTMARE OF J.B. STANISLAS ( 70s folk psych ) SAALE -Label:ACIDRAY Despite the fact that the copies of this magical album were scarce and the high cost for collectors (more than 1,200 euros), it was admired for decades. Leonard Cohen himself personally praised Nick on their joint tour in Spain in the eighties. Nick took part in luxurious collaborations, such as those in infamous soundtracks, along with Francis Lai (Oscar winner for “Love Story” and in charge of “Un homme et a femme”, “Vivir por Vivir”, “Bilitis”, “Dark Eyes” and “Emmanuelle”). GOLDEN DAWN - Power Plant ( 67 Elevators style ) -Label:INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS/SNAPPER (England) With 16 page booklet and rare photos.
Taking their name from the esoteric teachings and philosophy of the Hermetic Tradition, Golden Dawn hailed from Austin, Texas, forming in 1967. The group's primary musical influence, The 13th Floor Elevators, were instrumental in getting them their recording contract with International Artists. Indeed, George Kinney and Roky Erickson had grown up together in South Austin, attending the same school and playing together in The Fugitives, a garage band from the mid-60's. "Power Plant" features fine, acid-spiked folk rock guitars and intelligent psychedelic-inspired lyrics. The emotional range is remarkable for a debut album - from the searing acid punk of Evolution, through the classic pop-inflected psych of My Time into the brooding introspection of Reaching Out To You. Indeed, this highly-regarded Texan-Psych classic is essential listening for any fan of The 13th Elevators. Sadly, International Artists failed to promote the album effectively on its release and the band eventually fell apart when Kinney decided he was having nothing more to do with the group and took off for California. The group's Bill Hallmark went on to sing and play guitar for The Rubayyat, in company with 13th Floor Elevators member Danny Galindo. CD $12 SKU:15697

HANDSOME JACK- Do What Comes Naturally -digipack -Label:ALIVE REVIEW by Shawn Obnoxious Naturally” hits with blues fused rock and roll that truly grips you. There’s a certain charm in the mix… A real honesty that you find in those nowadaysands that are sectioned off from the mainstream… Handsome Jack deliver a confidence that only you can accept or deny. The truth isn’t for just anyone these days. The only factor that suffers with a band like Handsome Jack is the reality of the fact, that music, of any genre, suffers. There is a lot of music out ‘there’ riding invisible rays and available thru a multitude of formats and accessibilities. You gotta dig deep and find what connects with you before it’s lost in the shuffle of the beast called Right Fucking Now. As listens of “Naturally” tallied, the more and more I appreciated the release as a whole… The sorts of fondness that would not be found in a big-shot music reviewer scanning ten seconds of each track then spit out a few adjectives to coincide with that press release. Fuck that.Rock N Roll isn’t dead if you don’t want it to be. Let’s try to spend some time with a CD or record or whatever, to connect once again. Yes, it comes naturally to just hit the button to most, but not because we want to, it’s because some have too. Take some time with “Naturally”. Turn it up. Sit a while. Open up your mind and your ears. You just might like something after all without being given permissions by the industry. CD $12 SKU:16201

D- MEN - I Wanna Shout 4 page insert - Label:BREAKAWAY Take the 14 tunes of this platter, add a band named The D-Men, and you've got a driving, shaking demonstration of US mid 1960's british invasion influenced Garage Rock and Roll. The D-Men are best remembered today for their minor hit success with 45’s such as “I Just Don’t Care” or “So Little Time”. Their biggest success and recognition though, came in 1967 under their new name “The Fifth Estate” when they charted nationwide with their baroque rock adaptation “Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead”. But it’s the 1964 – 66 recorded tracks on this platter which were first played to the neighbourhood kids and then to wild fans which often brought the house down. Included are “Boom Boom," "Hi Heel Sneakers," and their unreleased demo recording of The Stones "Empty Heart". This punctuates its garage rock beat, with a fuzz ing deep guitar riff and sing ing with the sinister resentment that certifies the track as Nuggets ready. But the band had much more to provide than just cover material. With a gift for writing hooks and catchy melodies a string of excellent originals exposes the hidden side of The D-Men perfectly. "Like I Love You" recaptures the Anglopop charms of the British Invasion, even self-consciously sprinkling Fab Four-isms. "Don't You Know," is a song laced with the organ and guitar interplay ideally suited to take on The Animals, The Searchers, and The Dave Clark Five. More Beatlesque notions are provided in "Love Could Show Me", "I Just Don’t Care" and "Don't You Know," tracks that typify the group's early Merseybeat style. A long lost punk rock gem such as "When I'm Gone" explodes with all the subtlety of The Kingsmen's "Long Green" mugging The Kinks' "Till The End Of The Day," as Paul Revere and The Raiders' "Just Like Me" gets ready to pounce. The outstanding “So Little Time”, earned meager attention beyond the regional market. In truth, it deserves a place among the great, if overlooked, slices of hard-edged East Coast folk rock. All these tracks make up a significant part of the group's legacy. A legacy that will only be complete with such recordings as "It's Cruel," the psychedelic "Night On Fire," and the explosive live recording of "I Wanna Shout". This collection has the flamable stuff of the mid 60s beat generation – it’s something the kids could shake it up to. If you didn’t do then, do it now! The disc features painstakingly remastered sound and a 4-page insert with rare photos from the band’s scrapbook and a detailed band history written by Joseph Tortelli LP $19 SKU:16045

This definitely is one of Europe's finest heavy rock rarities from the era! SAN UL LIM - THE FIRST LP (Gentle garage-psych with a dreamy west coast flair)-Label:GRANADILLA MUSIC (GERMANY) Gentle garage-psych with a dreamy west coast flair and tons of awesome fuzzed-out guitars... with Korean-language lyrics. Originally released in 1977, South Korean trio San Ul Lim's debut album sounds like the best psychedelic power pop and garage stuff you could get in the UK and USA ten years before its release. One of the most popular acts on the Korean scene, San Ul Lim had exactly this typical 1966 garage sound, with fuzzy axes and some thin but sympathetic Farfisa organs. These compositions were conceived between 1971 and 1975, and, with their heartwarming vocal melodies and gifted musicianship, are heavily reminiscent of The Zombies, though San Ul Lim play in a much more direct fashion. Their music represents a movement from early beat to heavier and darker garage rock, which finally shifted into psychedelic rock. Fans of proto-garage beat with psychedelic tinges from 1965 to 1967 will go wild for this album. Other reference points include The Flies (UK, pre-T2) and The Petards (Germany). A lovely flashback to the golden age of music. LP $22 SKU:16754

Highly recommended! Limited edition, deluxe 180g vinyl, from the original analogue master tapes, exact reproduction of the original first pressing. LP $18 SKU:16715

SANULLIM -The Psychedelic Years, 1977-1979 -Label:DOUNIA RECORDS (FRANCE) Limited edition of 500 copies. At a time when punk is unfolding over England, when guitars are faster and more aggressive, all packed up in protesting slogans against Establishment, in South Korea appears Sanullim, a group formed by three brothers Kim Chang Wan, Kim Chang Hoon and Kim Nan Suk. Instead of wearing studded perfectos and multicolored ridges, the brothers prefer 3 part costumes and psychedelic melodies that were at top of charts around the world, 10 years ago. Sanullim is a well-typed retro 60's band that has nothing to envy to their elders! One has only to listen to Are You Coming In Fall to be convinced! Languid, almost melancholy, with à lot of organ and distortion, this title is a good summary of the potential of Sanullim. Always oscillating between a heavy psychedelic rock like on the title Oh Already, and more pop tunes like It Was Probably Late Summer or Two Of Us, which the organ is not without reminding us of floydians vapors. Sanullim offers us through this compilation, his vision of rock, with a lot of shades. Without just copying, Sanullim have their own sound that will delight lovers of garage and exotic obscurities. The climax of this awesome compilation is the 18 minutes of You Are Already I, where the group leaves free speech to the instruments: guitars filled with a lot of fuzz, weird keyboards and dry bass echoes together to weave a dantesque fresco! A must have for fans of the genre! LP $24 SKU:16529

SEEDS - Fallin’ Off The Edge ( great 66 garage ) - Label:GNP Best known for their rock & roll standard "Pushin' Too Hard," the Seeds combined the raw, Stonesy appeal of garage rock with a fondness for ragged, trashy psychedelia. The title track to this collection of rarities and alternate takes, "Fallin' off the Edge (Of My Mind)," is, improbably enough, a psychedelic hoe-down. It also proves that, contrary to popular belief, the Seeds did have other musical interests beyond psych, garage, and blues. LP $14 SKU:15461

SHAG- 1969 Acid psych with insert with liner notes and photos -Label:OUT-SIDER SHAG was born from the ashes of garage band The Shags (of “Stop and Listen” fame). In 1969, the band recorded a demo at Pacific High Recordings in San Francisco, at the same time as the Grateful Dead were recording their classic “Working Man’s Dead” album there. The demo was in fact a fully finished album of bombastic psychedelia, acid-rock and proto-prog with loud fuzz-wah guitars, long tracks, crazy percussion and killer flute. Here’s the first ever vinyl reissue of these lost recordings. Master tape sound, insert with liner notes and photos LP $27 SKU:16281
