MILT MATTHEWS INC-.For the People (Ultra-collectable 70s psych-soul gem" —Record Collector) Label:FANTASTIC VOYAGE Highly recommended: not just as a curio but something which bears repeated hammering. A stone classic" –Shindig. ”Ultra-collectable 70s psych-soul gem" —Record Collector. 1971 Ember label album that sought to span musical genres and appeal to both soul and rock fans, with powerful vocals in the Otis Redding mould and a lead guitarist who had obviously studied Jimi Hendrix. Milt Matthews sang lead vocals, played rhythm guitar and wrote the original songs. The opening track is an extended workout on B.B. King’s 1970 hit ‘The Thrill Has Gone’ with a menacing string arrangement provided by Bert “Super Charts” DeCoteaux, who had also embellished B.B.’s version. The bluesy ‘Can’t See Myself Doing You Wrong’ is the first of Milt’s compositions and features strong backing vocals, possibly by the Sweet Inspirations. Artists in the seventies frequently included a Beatles cover on their albums, Milt’s choice was to apply some funk to ‘Hard Day’s Night’ supported by outstanding fuzz guitar from Randall. ‘Oh Lord (You Gotta Help Me)’, another Matthews song, is a fine pleading soul ballad with tasteful strings and girl group sweetening. ‘Runaway People’ had been an R&B charter for Dyke & The Blazers the year before and Milt adds some screams that Dyke would have been proud of. Probably Milt’s best love song, ‘That’s The Way I Feel (Like A Burning Fire)’ also has the benefit of Burney’s scorching fuzz interjections. A plea for peace and love, ‘Disaster Area’ was much in the psychedelic soul style of the Dennis Edwards-led Temptations at the time. The closing selection is a sympathetic cover of ‘Presence Of The Lord’, Eric Clapton’s song from his tenure in the short-lived supergroup Blind Faith. If you love rock and you love soul, then you'll adore this. Nice shrink-wrapped slip-case packaging.

MINERS OF MUZO-REALLY.. IS THAT A FACT? (DUTCH 60s inspired garage psych)--Label:DOWN AT THE NIGHTCLUB The official release of 'Really.... Is That A Fact?' on Down At The Nightclub Records. A few copies of this CD were previously released in 2013 by the band as a promo CD. The CD features Lee (vocals and guitars), GJ (drums), Marc (bass), Wannes (guitars), Corn Biekens (lead guitar on #4) and The Salsa Kid (Trumpets on #4, #9 and #12). The CD contains an eight page lyrics booklet. On offer are 13 sparkling guitar songs, sometimes stomping fierce, fuzzing and rocking the garage way, sometimes melodic, or even melancholic, but always with conviction and persuasion and depth. You can hear the influences from the past, you can hear some '60s twang or some '70s hook, but it is definitely a contemporary sound. The Miners are diggin' deep once more. The title refers to an old J.R. Ewing (Dallas) quote. CD $14 SKU:19410

CONJERTI, MORREALE & DIBLEY"-Earth Free (1970’s IYL Neil Young,CSNY-SAALE! Label:VOID An album that has the unfinished feel of a demo record (which is good), a bit like Merrell Fankhauser's “Fapardokly” LP from 5 years earlier—except the main influence here is early Neil Young. The main appeal to present-day listeners will be the minor key acoustic guitar strumming that makes it a folk record, and the minimal but effective lead guitar that fleshes out the songs and gives them an unusual edge. The lyrics wont appeal to modern-day cynics, but the youthful, melancholic delivery gives them a depth beyond the misleading, easy-listening label assigned to this reissue. The title track is a simple but effective paean to natural beauty that closes the record in a satisfying manner. Comparable records in terms of feel would include the likes of Fenner, Leland & O'Brien, Dave Lamb & Gye Whiz, Songs of David Lewis, etc - if any of those appeal, then this record will also. Lysergia review: “Recently discovered Christian hippie 1970s folk/rock LP with a nice, loose vibe. Sound is typical for the style, rooted in a melodic CSNY sensibility, recalling Stills' melancholic moves in particular. I also catch an Eastcoasty "Big Pink" vibe here and there. Opening track is deceptively soft and poppy, after which the LP gradually increases its depth, ending up with some truly great numbers that rate alongside the best of the genre. Vocals are not remarkable but fit the overall reflective mood well, while the band plays loose (sometimes very loose) and laidback, with a bass unusually high in the mix for added groove. Comparisons made to Kansas City Jammers are useful, if you imagine this LP as the dark mirror image of the upbeat KCJ.” LP $16 SKU:23988

MANDHYLON -Negra ciudad(68-70 Argentine blues psych)Label:LION From the ashes of the mythical Argentine duo Sandhy & Mandhy—who recorded in 1969 the intensely rare and beloved album “Para Castukis” (reissued by Lion Productions on vinyl and CD), a record suffused with beat and psychedelic influences—comes this resurrection by Mandhy of his "Celestial Stories." Alberto Vanasco Jr. (Mandhy) resumes his musical tale with twelve tracks written between 1968 and 1978. Recorded with the analogue essence and sound of the 70s, using vintage instruments like Farfisa and Hammond organ, and fuzz guitar. Features Argentine rock legends Nexus as the backing band. A record which brings together all of the various crucial elements of Argentine rock music: psychedelia, heavy blues, classic rock, and progressive rock. Stunning CD $15 SKU:24763

MANGROVE -Endless Skies (70s style heavy rock trio IYL Sabbath /Zep )Label:TRANSUBSTANS Mangrove is a heavy and powerful classic rock trio with their roots in the late 60's and the early 70's hard rock and psychedelic scene. Groovy jams and heavy chords is one of Mangrove's trademarks. Mangrove was born in the late fall of 2006 in Stockholm (Sweden) after many late night jams and rehearsals. The first album 'Endless Skies' was released in May 2009 on Transubstans Records, with lots of awesome reviews in both Music Magazines and Web Fanzines as a result. In November 2010 Mangrove releases their second album 'A Distant Dream Of Tomorrow' on Transubstans Records. The album contains ten songs which are energetic, powerful and dynamic. The feeling is that the band has reached a new level. Mangrove has a lot of different influences, but as a listener you can not be mistaken if you can hear some similarity with bands like Black Sabbath, Rush, Led Zeppelin and The Who among others CD $10 SKU:22564

MARK “PORKCHOP” HOLDER- Let It Slide (Blistering slide guitar - ex Black Diamond Heavies - CD Label:ALIVE Guitarist, singer, harmonica player, and songwriter MARK PORKCHOP HOLDER is a founding member of the seminal Tennessee punk rock blues band The Black Diamond Heavies (with John Wesley Myers aka James Leg, and Van Campbell of the band King Mud).

MARK PORKCHOP HOLDER plays the blues, and his music is the sound of the truth. He has traveled around the world and the US, and played at festivals, clubs, in the streets, at churches, in public toilets, army surplus stores, and in a mental hospital or two. After more than a decade of struggling with depression and addiction, he has finally come back home, in Chattanooga TN, and assembled a first rate power trio.

His debut “Let It Slide” is a blistering blues album that marries both the modern and the traditional. “Let It Slide” has been described by the Chattanooga Pulse as “Boogie, sans bullshit. Dirty roadhouse music. Juke Joint jamming. Swamp rock. Too rock for blues, too blues for rock, the music is hungry, hard and mean." CD $10 SKU:18298

MASON-HARBOUR (70s Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Grand Funk) style aCID ARCHIVE FAVE!) Label:GEAR FAB Smokin' heavy rock with an early progressive sound and overtones of folk and blues from Virginia, 1971. Originally released on the Eleventh Hour label, which also released Polyphony's Without Introduction (OSR 024LP, 1971). Powerful vocals, loud guitar, flute, and killer Hammond organ -- think Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Grand Funk... Master tape sound; includes repro of the original multi-page insert plus liner notes. "This is an interesting and diverse hard-rock album. If you can picture slow, organ-rich heavy prog, jazzy sax instrumentals, and snappy riff rockers, you'll have an idea of what you're in store for there. There's an air of professionalism usually absent from this kind of self-made records. 'Tell Me' has a fuzz guitar tone to die for." --Aaron Milenski, The Acid Archives CD $10 SKU:22026

MASTER PLAN-Colossus Of Destiny- New York rock and roll W Andy Shernoff andKeith of Fleshtones ) SAALE -last copies Label:TOTAL ENERGY Devised by ANDY SHERNOFF (bass & vocals), KEITH STRENG (guitar & vocals), PAUL JOHNSON (guitar & vocals) and BILL MILHIZER (drums & vocals), The MASTER PLAN delivers an old school rock'n'roll album the way it was intented to be : rootsy, boozy and fun. “Combine mid-Atlantic son Paul Johnson (once Paul Tiers of the Waxing Poetics) with pillars of the New York garage sound community, namely Andy Shernoff of the Dictators, and Bill Milhizer/Keith Streng of the Fleshtones, and you have just what you might expect. Great guitar work and a straightforward style that pays homage to basement-driven, beer-battered, saxophone-thickened rock n' roll. If you want pensive lyrics, go to Target.” - Bruno Westover/Left of the Dial CD $5 SKU:23947

MAYER. NATHANIEL- Why Won't You Let Me Be Black (with the Black Keys )- Label:ALIVE Nathaniel Mayer (1944-2008) was one of the all-time great soul singers. His 1962 record "Village of Love" made him a star, and he inspired several generations of musicians, especially in his hometown of Detroit. Nathaniel's last sessions took place during two long summer days and nights of intense jamming, writing, and recording. "Why Don't You Give It To Me?" was the first installment of these recordings to be unleashed. Now, here at last, is a second volume of Nathaniel Mayer having a blast with the assistance of members of the BLACK KEYS, SSM, OUTRAGEOUS CHERRY and the DIRTBOMBS. The two acoustic performances are from a 2007 radio interview, Nathaniel's only known "unplugged" performance. CD $10 SKU:10495

MELANIE- The Good Book (1971 reissue)Label:TALKING ELEPHANT The Good Book” is Melanie's 1971 album, and features her Top 40 hit ‘Nickel Song.’ The album also features ‘Birthday of the Sun,’ a track Melanie originally performed at Woodstock in 1969. This album was the last 'official' Melanie release from Buddah Records – she left the company to form her own label. Melanie's cover of Dylan's "Sign on the Window" and her own title track both depict a woman tired of the music business (if not her art) and eager to tend cows and look after kids rather than deal with the trappings of stardom, and if her take on Phil Ochs' "Chords of Fame" and her own composition, "The Nickel Song," lack the agrarian influence of the former tunes, if anything they're even stronger variation on the same theme. However, it's worth noting there's no such thing as a Melanie album without a bit of emotional excess, and she speaks her heart and mind with clarity and gentle force on these numbers, while finding room for the hard-won wisdom of "The Saddest Thing" and Judy Collins' "My Father," and the playful proto-feminism of "Babe Rainbow." If The Good Book was a product of a troubled moment in Melanie's career, there's little arguing that she made the very best of a bad situation.

MELANIE-Candles In The Rain (1970 reissue) Label:TALKING ELEPHANT Melanie Safka's third album, “Candles in the Rain” (1970). While her first two LPs found her trying to make a coherent whole out of her grab bag of influences and ideas, this was where she seemed to truly hit the mark for the first time. CD $10 SKU:24884

MERRELL FANKHAUSER and the HAIKU BAND -Visitor From 2000 AD (west coast surf-psych legend)-Label: This is an obscure CD release from west coast surf-psych legend, Merrell Fankhauser. Released right before the year 2000 hit and barely anyone noticed—it is a sad and beautiful world we live in. To some folks, this is the best thing Fankhauser has released since his Mu days! The track "Under A Maui Moon" is a mind-melter in particular. This recording is a breathtaking mixture of instrumental rock-jazz-surf-psychedelic flights with vocals inserted in the perfect places to complete the circle of musical life. This music speaks of the ancient Hawaiian mysteries that lie asleep waiting to be awoken. A rare and collectible CD. Very limited micro pressing. And more to the point, Fankhauser is very deservedly a legendary figure of the American psychedelic movement.

Merrell Fankhauser (vocals, guitar, bass and keyboards), Tim Fankhauser (vocals and guitar), Divino (guitar, sitar and bass), Art Dougall (Drums), Ed Cassidy (Drums on “Visitor From 2000 AD), Rudy Esquire (sax), Steve Morrisey Sax and Trumpet on “Dolphins Cry” & Ancient Song”, Ralph Lewis (bass), Stephen Be (Vocals, percussion and flute), Chris Olsen (Percussion), Maui Joe (percussion), Mike Murphy Graham (congas).

"The CD was recorded over a three day period in 1997 in Maui, right on the edge of the rainforest at Divino's Celestial Studio. For a jam session, this music has a startling uniformity and constitution. The opener 'The Elders Return', sets the mood with a mystical sitar while 'Beyond The Rainbow' is an exceptional excursion into the heart and soul of a traveler looking for answers. 'Into The Crater' is a tribute to the beloved Randy California, whom Merrell and Cassidy were very close to. Randy lost his life while trying to save his drowning son in the prevailing ocean tides. He is truly missed. This recording is a breathtaking mixture of instrumental rock-jazz-surf-psychedelic flights with vocals inserted in the perfect places to complete the circle of musical life." CD $10 SKU:21223

MOBBS -GARAGE PUNK FOR BOYS (British garage punk) SAALE!Label:CRAVAT 'Garage Punk For Boys' has taken its impetus from the title track itself. A "do it yourself" mentality has spurred these three lads to commit the songs to tape. The infectious feeling of jocular silliness, ferocity, calamity and fun will draw you in. With an arsenal of influences, each song is an homage to a variety of current and historic punk rock pioneers - from the mono-tones of 1960s British Beat to a full on undertone of funked up rhythm & blues. 'Garage Punk For Boys' lifts its hat to a Wilko Johnson infused Billy Childish explosion, with a rocket full of ideas inspired by contemporary cult English bands such as The Masonics, and a massive dose of live energy derived from the likes of King Salami & The Cumberland 3! These are the last few copies , about to be out of print forever and ever! Unlike the Pebbles series – which has been released over an extended period of time by several record labels and in a variety of formats – the 23 albums in the Highs in the Mid-Sixties series were released only as LPs and in a short time span of 1983 to 1986 (in fact, the 23rd album is the only 1986 release). This is one of the fastest series of releases among garage rock compilation albums. By way of example, the 28 LPs in the Pebbles series were released between 1978 and 1988, and the 20 LPs in the Rubble series were released between 1984 and 2002. Even the first 23 albums in the original Now That's What I Call Music series (i.e., the United Kingdom albums) – the most massive group of compilation albums ever created – were released between 1983 and 1992.
These tracks include several covers, The Moonrakers were originally known as the Surfin' Classics and, like many 1960s garage rock bands, have a website and had a 2006 reunion concert. The title of the psychedelic instrumental "Music to Smoke Bananas By" refers to the urban legend prevalent in the late 1960s that banana peel scrapings have an LSD-like effect if dried and then smoked like marijuana

PUNKS IN PEORIA -MAKING A SCENE IN THE AMERICAN HEARTLAND- SAALE! Label:ALONA'S DREAM 14 song document of the DIY punk/alternative scene in Peoria, Illinois, from its hardcore roots in the early 1980s through the late '90s. The album highlights out-of-print punk rock anthems, unreleased demos and rare studio tracks alongside extensive liner notes, photos and a scene poster. This compilation is the companion soundtrack to the book 'Punks In Peoria: Making A Scene In The American Heartland' by Jonathan Wright and Dawson Barrett, published by University of Illinois Press. 'Punks In Peoria' documents the evolution of the DIY punk scene in Peoria, Illinois from its primal beginnings in the early 1980s to the dawn of the digital era. A lovingly curated collection of long-lost gems and hometown favorites from "Anytown U.S.A.," it connects the varied work of disaffected youth across nearly two decades and multiple "generations" of Peoria punks, performers and scenesters. From Midwest hardcore legends Constant Vomit and Caustic Defiance to the inimitable shock rocker Bloody Mess, the Peoria punk scene was built on the DIY spirit from the very beginning. As it grew beyond the rudiments of hardcore, the Peoria scene mirrored the larger slicing and dicing of post-punk into ever-narrower sub-genres-embracing goth, synth, pop, psychedelia, metal, and more. Amidst the post-Nirvana haze of the early '90s, the gritty melodies of Dollface paved the way for a new generation of Peoria youth, some of whom would go on to tour the world in bands like Minsk and Planes Mistaken for Stars. This record is a document of that musical journey. Limited edition 160-gram color vinyl LP in 20pt board jacket with full-color printed inner sleeve featuring band photos and detailed liner notes and an 18"x24" poster featuring an extensive collection of flyers from the 1980s to the 2000s. CEPTIC FROG-YELLOW GREEN LTD ED! legendary deep underground South African heavy acid rock / proto-doom recordings from 1969! SAALE! Label:LION Ultra-rare rehearsal sessions from 1969 by this South African heavy psych / acid rock band, mastered from a tape transfer — and yet still doom-laden, dark, heavy, and as messy as can be, in all the right ways. Influences from heavy bands of the time, such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Steppenwolf are noticeable, with proto-doom and psych/funk undercurrents. Do you like fuzz guitar? You’re going to hear it screaming and wailing and building to epic tidal waves and crashes, the kinds of astonishing guitar cascades not heard since you cued up the best of all available live Jimi Hendrix recordings.

"In here lies the bones of all heavy metal ancestors. Enter at your own peril.” — a poster on Reddit

And talking about a track known online as 'Bufo Gutturalis,’ another poster’s assessment: “I gotta say this is one of the most shocking songs from 60s, it's impressive how the sound can be heavy and dark — it is also one of the [earliest] released songs most closely to call proto-doom.”

"When you listen to the stuff, well the first thing you might say is 'this stuff is pretty raw' and you are right. But that is what I always dug about it... I was told they would all go to a rehearsal session after smoking lots of “Durban Poison” and I think the result really speaks for itself. I am very happy that this little dirty gem is finally seeing the light of day. I have no idea what the world is going to think of it, but maybe because there’s no names, faces, or information other than my own recollections, maybe that forces the listener to use their imagination. Ceptic Frog, 1969: music created by South African teenagers very high on Durban Poison. Gotta love it." —Rich Patz, ShroomAngel Records

•Highly recommended for fans of psychedelic obscurities and hard rock from the 1960s and early 1970s. LP $28 SKU:24733

CONTENTS ARE - Live Davenport, Iowa 1968 (Iowa legends of psych gem 1969) -Label:ALONA’S DREAM Previously unreleased live recording featuring unheard originals from 1960’s psychedelic legends The Contents Are! •Intense jams for the psychedelic dancehall circa 1968 from these true legends of midwestern rock ’n roll.•Housed in a heavy-duty classic style tip-on jacket including previously unseen pictures and informative liner notes.•Limited editions (respectively) of 500x LPs and 300x Digipak CDsUntil recently, The Contents Are were one of the great forgotten bands of the late 1960’s midwestern psychedelic scene. After their masterpiece LP “Through You” was recorded the band went through their first evolution, switching out bass players Larry Smith for Mick Orton. While honing their new group by hosting a series of live shows in their native Davenport, IA (they were one of the area’s leading draws by this point), Craig was recording the band’s sets using his Ampex two track tape recorder. This album is the result of those recordings. Drawn from his archive of live recordings, they represent the band not only finding their footing after adding a new member but also recording a series of live demos which were then shopped to various producers in the hopes of landing a recording deal and wound up being the catalyst that brought them to Jerry Milam’s Golden Voice Recording Co in South Pekin, IL. It was there they would record their second major album “Four Each Other” which sat unreleased in the band’s archive until it was released via Golden Voice & Alona’s Dream in 2017, to much acclaim! These are more than just a collection of demos; they represent a band in between the early psychedelic folk classic which is their first album and the expansive acid rock evolution of their second album, with many original songs that were only ever played live. The listener can also hear a band who could keep a dancehall moving, a group as capable of being the evening’s entertainers as well as storytellers and poets in the studio. These recordings were restored, carefully mastered and pressed into 160 gram vinyl. Housed in a heavy-duty classic style tip-on jacket including previously unseen pictures and informative liner notes. A rare nine song document of The Contents Are's expansive live sound. Intense jams for the psychedelic dancehall circa 1968 from these true legends of midwestern rock ’n roll. LP $25 SKU:23388

CROMWELL -At the Gallop (1975 proto metal R&R)Label:GUERSSEN Self-released in 1975 by the Drumcondra, Dublin-based Cromwell, At The Gallop is a blistering, heavy, loud n' lascivious ten-track offering (thirteen in this expanded edition) of proto-metal infused street rock n' roll from a time when Ireland was still under the sway of conservative showbands, quasi-religious, sentimental pop pap and traditional Irish music. Despite their cultural struggles, Cromwell crafted a creative and compact catalog - five fuzzed n' ferocious 45s and this foot-long - led by co-vocalist/bassist Michael Kiely's come-hither coo and fey Jagger pose n' preen, the in-the-pocket drumming of Derek Dawson and minor-guitar hero moves of Patrick Brady, exercising taste, talent and towering mountains of fuzz n' fury as comfortably as greasy '70s raunch and rural modes. At The Gallop is a rare, little-heard classic in the pub/fried rock n' roll/proto-punk terrain. RIYL: Teenage Head, Flamingo-era Flamin' Groovies, Mott The Hoople, '70s Rolling Stones, pre-punk American street rock, and the Bonehead Crunchers series. Includes three bonus tracks from the group's rare singles; Includes an insert featuring rare photos and in-depth liner notes .
