BLUES ROCK FESTIVAL/BEAT CLUB INTERNATIONAL(1970 blues psych) Label:GEAR FAB These two - complementary - exploitation albums, originally issued in Germany in 1970, compile tracks from late '60s budget lp's which were credited to (fictional) acts s.a. Brother T. & Family, Automatic Blues Inc. and Ten O'Clock Bubble Gum Train. Despite the variety of band names, all the songs on these albums were recorded by the same group of musicians, featuring (ex-)members of Hamburg-based bands The Tonics and German Bonds. If you fancy a catchy blend of old fashioned hard rock, blues rock, psych and prog, you're likely to enjoy this two-for-one cd-reissue immensely. Teutonic exploito rock at its very best! CD $10 SKU:18841

BLUES TRAIN -ST (1969 Chicago driving hard blues with great vocals)Label:GEAR FAB Ultra rare and hardly ever heard before Canadian blues band that took the hard driving Chicago Blues sound, spicing it up with riving fuzz and wahwah guitars. Pounding hammonds, blowing leslies, screaming harmonica and great vocals on top of it. Perhaps one of the best hard blues sounds you've ever heard. CD $10 SKU:21713

CHRISTOPHERWhat’cha Gonna Do?(70s West Coast ACID PSYCH orig artwork, insert with liner notes ) -Label:LION Back to our roots we go, with this deluxe version of the album which was Lion Productions' very first foray into vinyl, way back in 2005! Official authorized reissue of the legendary psychedelic LP by Christopher from South Carolina. One of the absolute best American psychedelic LPs of the 1960’s, and one of the rarest—a copy went for close to $4,000 the last time an original copy sold online, and nearly double that changed hands off-line for an original! Every song is of the highest quality—they’re all self-penned too—with an accessible sound the suggests that Christopher could have had more widespread success had they ever made it out of their native South Carolina. The “What’cha Gonna Do?” album was pressed in 1969 to use as a demo (which is why as few as 100 copies exist), but you'd never know it based on the overall quality of the production. When you've got blistering acid rock mixed with acid blues, with a couple of thoughtful melodic songs for good measure, you've got a recipe for something special LP $24 SKU:21674

ECSTATIC VISION-FOR THE MASSES(Detroit rock grooves, acid freak-outs)-Label:HEACY PSYCH SOUNDS After bursting onto the scene with their 2015 tribal-psychedelic LP 'Sonic Praise', touring the USA with Yob and Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats, crushing Roadburn, then quickly releasing a for-heads-only, noisy, psychedelic-garage record to weed out the weak ('Raw Rock Fury'), Ecstatic Vision have pulled themselves out of the muck to deliver their finest album to date. Recorded in Philadelphia at Retro City Studios with Joe Boldizar and mixed/mastered by Tim Green (Earthless, The Melvins) at Louder Studios in Grass Valley, CA, Ecstatic Vision's recent fuzzed-out sound has been sculpted it into a HI/FI psychedelic wonderland. This album is the closest the band has gotten to achieving the energy of their untouchable live shows on tape. EV took a simpler approach on the art this time, using the Spanish dream-team of Edko Fuzz and Bangalore Studios. 'For The Masses' blends tripped-out synth, semi-catatonic desert driving tunes, Afro-tribal Funkadelic vibes, troglodyte-Detroit rock grooves, acid freak-outs, ethereal psychedelic hymns and mind-altering krautrock into Ecstatic Vision's outsider take on modern music. It's like if Tangerine Dream jammed with Lemmy and the Asheton Brothers and decided to play some world music and free jazz in 1971. CD $17 SKU:21680

FILET OF SOUL Freedom (60s Chicago blues psych) - Label:GEAR FAB Great Chicago based band that mixed Chicago blues with the prevalent Psychedelic sounds of the late '60s. CD $12 SKU:21677

LOS PACIFICOS - Havana 1967(Beatles/Kinks style)-Label:DAPP Only known recording of late 60s Cuban rock music inspired by The Beatles and the Kinks, of course. The tapes were stashed in a closet and smuggled out decades later. Digipak. An old tape missing for more than 30 years in warm and humid Cuba. Nine rock songs recorded in 1967 in two hurried hours, with borrowed instruments and without previous rehearsal. Four students, each about 17 years old, who filled the Havana student underground with the peace logo and forbidden music for two years: music that sent people to jail, or provoked strong discrimination just by listening to it. An incredible performance with professional standards, recorded in a completely censored environment. A musical program with covers of the Kinks, Beatles, and more, as well as original Cuban rock songs written by Los Pacificos. A unique session stolen from a system that locked doors to rock and peace. The only known recording of a Cuban rock band from the sixties. CD $14 SKU:21639

MILADYS, Les -ST (60s Canadian girl band)Label:GEAR FAB Debut album by French Canadian 60's girl band. French sung with 'jolly' versions of NANCY SINATRA's 'Sugar Town', a SUPREMES song, SIMON & GARFUNKEL's 'Feeling Groovy', and so on. Typical 60's arrangments and female harmony vocals. Nice full color sleeve showing the mademoiselles in full. Most of the tracks performed here would fit perfectly on a 'Swinging Mademoiselles' compilation. (Gearfab Special) CD $60.6 SKU:21721

MOLASSES -MOURNING HAZE DROPS OF SUNLIGHT (trippy psych rock)-Label:VAN RECORDS Born as a commissioned project from the Roadburn Music festival, Molasses brings back Farida Lemouchi and her old The Devils Blood bandmates to craft a very unique body of music that serves as a way to move on from the death of Selim Lemouchi and TDB days. Opening with the amp fuzziness of 'Mourning Haze', we are quickly transported to the days of psychedelic rock and its trippiness. Featuring a very accommodating pace and beautifully adorned with playful guitar leads and groovy synths, this opening track is pure magic and a very powerful way to open this release. The second and longer piece, 'Drops Of Sunlight', is a bit more experimental and introspective. With mysterious percussions and moody tempo changes, this piece feels bit like TDB in their 'The Thousandfold Epicentre' days, but with an extra layer of atmospheric elements. Farida's vocals are as enchanting as always, and perfectly provide that rigid darkness that music like this deserves. Limited to 500 handnumbered copies. CD $16 SKU:21619

UMBRA - ST(Brown ACid 70s heavy)Label:LION Umbra’s story is that of a band from the early 1970’s who recorded what they wanted to record: heavy, heavy music from the start of the “American Comedown Era” as we’ve seen it described by our friends for their “Brown Acid” series; a band whose music, terrific though it is, has never to this point been released out into the wide world. The tracks are hard-edged and heavy, verging on acid rock at times. Makes sense, as Umbra was a power trio most of their too-brief existence. Yet the songs (heavy though they are) have a deft touch. Spacey intros and weird effects were created by recording guitar licks, then re-recording them played backwards at double speed. There is an utterly refreshing category-free approach to writing songs that makes Umbra’s music exciting to hear. Comes with a 16-page booklet, with lyrics, photos, plus interesting and funny things that can only happen to musicians, and did to Umbra. CD $14 SKU:21740

LEOPOLD, PERRY - Experiments in Metaphysics(70s hippie artifact)Label:GEAR FAB Experiment in Metaphysics is one of the rarest and most sought-after artifacts of the hippie era. Recorded live during a five-hour session in the basement of a shoe-repair shop in June of 1970, most of the 300 original copies of Experiment in Metaphysics were simply given away in one afternoon, yet, inexplicably, bootleg copies of the album later sprang up half-way around the world. The reason for the album's staying power is apparent: the music is gorgeous, first-rate progressive folk. In fact, Side Two of the original LP's label was given the title "Acid-Folk" (the other side was called "Kommercial"), probably one of the very first uses of that term. Perry Leopold creates a proto-gothic ambience full of dark and brooding imagery that is much less cartoonish than most of what passes as "acid," while maintaining that music's visceral punch. Like much of the youth countercultural scene of the times, Leopold can occasionally give into mystical pretentiousness. Experiment in Metaphysics has moments -- namely the spoken-word monologue in the middle of the mostly stellar opening cut, "The Absurd Paranoid" -- of philosophical meandering. Still, even those moments maintain a period charm. Experiment in Metaphysics is exquisitely intelligent and forward-looking. Leopold's mood is much more pious than most music that came out of the psychedelic era, and, indeed, extreme piety tends to be a product of youth, yet there is something aged and wise about Leopold's music. The "Kommercial" side, cryptically subtitled "SMOKE," is conceptually bleak, and after "The Absurd Paranoid," it takes on a much more palpable quality, grounded in experience ("Cold in Philadelphia" and the gorgeous "The 35th of May"). The "Acid-Folk" side (subtitled "DROP") opens with the stark, multi-part title track. Each of the three songs in this section is a virtual mini-suite, with the closing cut, "The U.S.S. Commercial," standing as the album's magnum opus. Experiment in Metaphysics shows some truly progressive and experimental songwriting, even for the time period. Each song, even the instrumental cuts, feels like a story, with beginnings and endings and all kinds of interesting ideas and storylines sandwiched in between. The album is a relic that has not lost one iota of its power. ~ Stanton Swihart CD $10 SKU:7949

SECRETS w. CLIFFORD T. WARD- Infatuation: Singles and Demos 1966-68 (pop psych nuggets) Label:CHERRY RED Led by Cliff Ward (subsequently better known as Seventies singer-songwriter Clifford T. Ward), Worcestershire-based band the Secrets (a.k.a. Simon’s Secrets) released a glorious rush of witty, vibrant, hook-laden, sub-three minute pop/psych nuggets between 1966 and 1968. Infatuation gathers all of The Secrets singles, alternative versions and works-in-progress group recordings to provide a fascinating document of an outfit who never quite achieved the commercial success that they deserved. Five singles emerged during this Swinging-London-into-psychedelia timeframe, while a whole host of equally impressive, locally-recorded demos cut at the same juncture remained on the cutting-room floor for several decades. Infatuation gathers all of these singles, alternative versions and works-in-progress group recordings to provide a fascinating document of an outfit who never quite achieved the commercial success that they deserved. The release features half-a-dozen previously unissued recordings, including hitherto unknown-to-exist Ward songs ‘Poor Johnny’ and ‘Looking Down The Glass’. TOUCH- Street Suite (1968 blues psych) -Label:GEAR FAB AllMusic Review by Stanton Swihart :Coming directly from playing live with some of the finest hard rock bands of the era, Touch entered the studio to record their only album in 1968, released the following year in a limited pressing of 100 LPs. This Gear Fab reissue collects that entire album with the original lineup's two non-LP 45s, three songs recorded by the altered post-LP lineup, and a couple cuts by the Essence, the latter day band of Touch leader Ray Schulte. As such, it is the complete collection of the band's intense, sometimes left-leaning psychedelia grounded in blues.CD $10 SKU:18644
