More raves for our boys are rolling in, here’s the latest!

★★★★ 4 STAR REVIEW OF DATURA4 “BLESSED IS THE BOOGIE” VIA BLURT: Mariani is no macho cock rock shouter – no matter what backdrop he stands in front of, he’ll always have that slightful soulful, melodic power pop voice, backed here, as everywhere, with creamy vocal harmonies. Check the folk rocking “Not For Me” and “The City of Lights” and the overtly psychedelic “Cat On a Roof,” breaths of fresh air that meld Mariani’s pop sensibilities with the period sounds he evokes elsewhere. And LONESOME SHACK gets some love from RUTA 66: Desert Dreams, his second album for Alive Records, is an album that lives between roots and stagnant waters, spreading the arcane spirit of the primitive blues in songs that in their apparent simplicity do more, much more, to keep alive the legacy of such a venerable genre. BIG AUDIO DYNAMITE – This Is Big Audio Dynamite
(MICK JONES/CLASH) DOUBLE CD Label:COLUMBIA NOTE: NOT SEALED Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP 3 PANEL DIGIPACK
Formed by Mick Jones after he was ousted from The Clash, he continued to develop the sound The Clash had experimented with on 'Sandinista' using breaks, dubs and the heavy use of samples.
The debuted with the 1985 release 'This is Big Audio Dynamite', followed in 1986 by 'No. 10, Upping St. (which was co-produced by his former Clash mate Joe Strummer). They supported U2 on their 1987 world tour. In 1988 'Tighten Up, Vol. 88' was released, followed in 1989 by 'Megatop Phoenix'.
The lineup from 1984 until 1990 included Mick Jones (vocals and guitar), film director Don Letts (effects and vocals), Leo Williams (bass and vocals), Greg Roberts (drums and vocals) and Dan Donovan (keyboards).
In 1990 Mick Jones changed the name to Big Audio Dynamite II (later Big Audio) and the lineup was completely changed. Greg Roberts, Leo Williams and Dan Donovan left for Dreadzone.
In 1995 Mick Jones started to use the original name again. 'F-Punk' was recorded with Nick Hawkins, Gary Stonadge, Chris Kavanagh (ex-Sigue Sigue Sputnik), Andre Shapps and Michael Custance. With Darryl Fulstow (who replaced Gary Stonadge), Bob Wond (who replaced Chris Kavanagh) and vocalist Ranking Roger they recorded an album 'Entering A New Ride'. However the record company refused to release it, so they distributed it via download on their website in 1997, making it one of the earliest internet-releases. In 1998 BAD was disbanded but reformed in 2011 for a series of live shows. CD $25 SKU:21313

BLUNSTONE,COLIN -Ennismore /Journey (70s ZOMBIES leader)-Label:VOICEPRINT Much more accessible than Colin's preceding stridently baroque debut titled One Year, these two follow up albums wonderfully skirt the divide between MOR and out of box much the same way that Nilsson did on Pandemonium Shadow Show. It doesn't hurt that Blunstone was greatly aided by old band mates Rod Argent and Chris White and that the band Argent played on many of Ennismore's tracks. Superb. Named after a 'state-of-mind' and a beloved flat in Ennismore Gardens in London - "Ennismore" the album opens with the single and a firm fan fave - "I Don't Believe In Miracles". Epic UK put it out a month before the LP hit the shops in October 1972. The album “Journey” was first issued in 1974. The eight-page booklet has new liner notes from noted writer Alan Robinson, and cool stuff like the Dutch 7" single picture sleeve for 'I Want Some More' which had 'Pay Me Later' on the B (not released in the UK). ‘Andorra' and 'Weak For You' also came out in Euro territories and they're here as well. There are old interview quotes from Blunstone discussing his association with Duncan Browne of Immediate and Rak Records fame (his ‘Journey' single is one of 'the’ 70's sublime moments). CD $12 SKU:21291

This set expands on the usual ‘best of’ to include a cornucopia of extra material which goes beneath the surface to explore further the dawning of this wonderful talent. Key tracks from three classic albums + never before on CD 1968 demos; the debut release of three tracks recorded live for French TV; first ever release for interview material and 2009 session recordings (featuring Michael Chapman) exclusive to Cherry Red TV; also includes BBC session highlights, singles and b-sides. MCCOYS -Hang on Sloopy: Best of the McCoys (65-67 fuzz rock)-Label:RETROWORLD he McCoys had their biggest hit with the simple, infectious crunch of 'Hang On, Sloopy’; The McCoys are also famous for spawning the long career of guitar player Rick Derringer. But that’s not the whole story of the band—between 1965 and 1967 The McCoys had eight Top 100 songs on The Bang Label! Three of those were Top 40 and a fourth song just missed the Top 40. "One aspect of this CD that hasn't been emphasized is how incredibly well it was recorded. The sound is astonishingly life-like; on a few songs, it sounds as if the band is playing right in your living room (aided by the stereo mix from master tapes). Also, the version of 'Beat the Clock' included here is the full-length version, not the abridged radio version. The highlight of this album for me is the snaky fuzz guitar/electric piano riff on "Got to Go Back"--way cool.” CD $14 SKU:21292

MIKE STUART SPAN “Children of Tomorrow (60s Brit psych)-Label:GRAPEFRUIT They made precious little impact at the time, but Brighton based quartet the Mike Stuart Span have been lauded by collectors for at least a couple of decades now as one of the finest British psychedelic bands of the era. With their early 1968 single 'Children Of Tomorrow' b/w 'Concerto Of Thoughts' widely acknowledged as one of the best (and rarest: a copy recently sold on eBay for in excess of £700) examples of the genre, their recordings have appeared on numerous illegal releases as well as a limited edition, band-authorised mid-1990s anthology. However, licensing restrictions ensured that a definitive, all-encompassing Mike Stuart Span compilation remained an impossible dream. Until now, that is, because "Children Of Tomorrow" represents the Mike Stuart Span motherlode. Featuring every MSS studio recording known to have survived, it includes their brace of mod-soul singles for EMI and their notorious but little-heard stab at pop stardom with Fontana together with that superlative psych-pop 45 on Jewel, plus a host of demos in a similar vein. As a considerable bonus, we also feature a clutch of previously-unissued treasures: the only recording made by pre-MSS outfit the Mighty Atoms, a far more muscular radio session stab at Fontana A-side 'You Can Understand Me' and two 1966 demos that effectively won the group their EMI deal. With previously unpublished photos and fresh quotes from band members Stuart Hobday and Gary Murphy, "Children Of Tomorrow" is the definitive Mike Stuart Span anthology. CD $14 SKU:21298

MOUNTAIN -Crossroader: An Anthology 1970-1974 - DBL CDLabel:ESOTERIC Formed in 1969 by guitarist Leslie West and bass player and Cream producer Felix Pappalardi, Mountain also initially comprised a line-up that featured Steve Knight (Keyboards) and N.D. Smart (Drums). Prior to securing a recording contract, the band made an impressive impact at the Woodstock Festival in August of that year. Soon after this appearance N.D. Smart was replaced on drums by Corky Laing and Mountain began their recording career with their debut album CLIMBIN , issued in March 1970. Featuring such classic tracks as 'Mississippi Queen,' 'For Yasgur’s Farm' and a cover of Jack Bruce’s 'Theme from an 'Imaginary Western,’ Mountain established their hallmark sound of powerful rock combined witha more subtle side. CD One Mountain In The Studio; CD Two Mountain Live In Concert CD $16 SKU:21293

OUTSIDERS -CQ (1968 Dutch rockers)Label:RPM The American writer Richie Unterberger called them “not just the finest Dutch group of the ’60s, but the finest group from a non-English speaking country, period.” Holland’s Outsiders have a posthumous reputation that grows and grows. Their 1968 album CQ was a benchmark, one of the greatest albums of the late ’60s from anywhere. RPM International is proud to issue the legendary CQ on CD outside the Netherlands for the first time. Staggeringly it apparently sold just 500 copies when it was originally released. Our package carries bonus tracks from a professionally recorded1968 concert of CQ material at The Fanstasio, in Amsterdam, their home town, by radio station VPRO. CQ was made by a band with their own identity. Songs like ‘Daddy Died On Saturday' have the intensity of the Velvet Underground’s ‘White Light White Heat;’ 'Prison Song’ is the atmospheric equal of The Doors’ ‘The End’. Mike Stax, the editor of Ugly Things magazine, long-time Outsiders’ champion and friend of the band has contributed liner notes. With its iconic original cover art, this is the definitive reissue of CQ. CD $14 SKU:21294

PLASTIC SECTION - Trouble is Our Business (Raw rockabilly and rhythm ‘n’ blues voodoo)-Label:OFF THE HIP Plastic Section’s latest album “Trouble Is Our Business” is out now through legendary Melbourne label Off the Hip. Recorded live in the studio on one day with Raul Sanchez (Magic Dirt) at the dials, the album captures Plastic Section’s distinctive take on rawrockabilly and rhythm ‘n’ blues voodoo. Album artwork is by legendary artist and rocker Lluis Fuzzhound (Midnight Woolf).
Plastic Section started when Sydney singer-guitarist Ben Edwards moved to Bangkok a few years ago. The Bangkok line-up quickly established themselves as one of the best live acts in Thailand, playing live on TV and radio, at major music festivals and supporting touring bands like Deerhoof and The King Khan & BBQ Show. After some gigs in Taipei and Berlin (including a show supporting Paul Collins Beat), Ben moved to Melbourne and formed a new Plastic Section line-up. “Trouble Is Our Business” is the band’s fourth album and first official Australian release CD $10 SKU:21312

SECRETS featuring CLIFFORD T. WARD- Infatuation: Singles and Demos 1966-68 (pop psych nuggets) Label:CHERRY RED Led by Cliff Ward (subsequently better known as Seventies singer-songwriter Clifford T. Ward), Worcestershire-based band the Secrets (a.k.a. Simon’s Secrets) released a glorious rush of witty, vibrant, hook-laden, sub-three minute pop/psych nuggets between 1966 and 1968. Infatuation gathers all of The Secrets singles, alternative versions and works-in-progress group recordings to provide a fascinating document of an outfit who never quite achieved the commercial success that they deserved. Five singles emerged during this Swinging-London-into-psychedelia timeframe, while a whole host of equally impressive, locally-recorded demos cut at the same juncture remained on the cutting-room floor for several decades. Infatuation gathers all of these singles, alternative versions and works-in-progress group recordings to provide a fascinating document of an outfit who never quite achieved the commercial success that they deserved. The release features half-a-dozen previously unissued recordings, including hitherto unknown-to-exist Ward songs ‘Poor Johnny’ and ‘Looking Down The Glass’. It also includes two versions of his song ‘Path Through The Forest’, subsequently turned into a UK psych classic by the Factory CD $14 SKU:21296

SMYTH,GILLI -Mother (1972 psych weirdness) Label:ESOTERIC Esoteric Recordings are proud to announce the release of a newly re-mastered edition of the classic 1978 album by Gong member GILLI SMYTH, “Mother”. Comprised of recordings dating as far back as 1972 (some featuring Gong), “Mother” is arguably one of the finest albums in the wider Gong family. Described as “A psychedelic, spacey invocation of motherhood, an examination of gender roles and reincarnation”, the album was mostly created in Mallorca by Gilli Smyth’s then-partner and Gong visionary, Daveid Allen, who also played on the album. The album also saw guest appearances from saxophonist Didier Malherbe, bassist Christian Tristch and drummer Pip Pyle among others. Featuring the customary Daevid Allen touch of imaginative edits and sound collages, “Mother” is a joy from beginning to end. This new, official release has been newly re-mastered and includes a booklet with liner notes by Gong archivist and expert Jonny Greene. CD $14 SKU:21297

TEA & SYMPHONY-Jo Sago (70s underground classic) Label:ESOTERIC Newly remastered edition of the underground classic album by Tea & Symphony. “Jo Sago” was the band’s second (and final) album and originally appeared in November 1970 on the now legendary HARVEST label. The band began life as a Progressive Folk band comprising of the core members JEFF DAW (Vocals, Guitar, Flute), JAMES LANGSTON (Vocals, Guitar) & NIGEL PHILLIPS (Drums, Recorder, Keyboards) and were part of Jim Simpson’s Birmingham-based Big Bear Management stable of artists (who also included BAKERLOO, BLACK SABBATH and LOCOMOTIVE). By the time of the “Jo Sago” album, Jeff Daw and James Langston were joined by BOB WILSON on Keyboards, Guitar and Bass and had moved further into the area of Progressive Rock. Produced by Tony Cox at Sound Techniques studios, “Jo Sago” was a conceptual work that touched on subjects such as race relations in 1970s Britain and more. The album is now regarded as a classic of the era, with original HARVEST vinyl copies changing hands for significant sums. This official Esoteric Recordings reissue has been newly re-mastered from the original tapes and features a booklet with restored artwork and an essay." CD $14 SKU:21299

TOMCATS-Running at Shadows: The Spanish Recordings 1965-66 ( Spanish answer to the Rolling Stones) Label:RPM This compilation boasts all The Tomcats’ EP tracks plus rarities, unissued material and pre-Tomcats tracks by The Second Thoughts. British R&B/Mod band The Tomcats were formed in Ealing in 1965 but spent their career wowing audiences in Spain as an imported answer to The Rolling Stones. Between 1965 and 1966, the Tomcats issued four EPs for Philips, which have never been reissued on CD. This compilation boasts all their EP tracks plus rarities, unissued material and pre-Tomcats tracks by The Second Thoughts. On their return to the UK, The Tomcats evolved into cult Psychedelic favourites July."Running At Shadows" boasts authoritative sleeve-notes, featuring quotes from original band members (including Tom Newman, who would later engineer Tubular Bells!) TROGGS -From Nowhere /Trogglodynamite-Label:BGO The first two British Troggs LPs combined onto one disc on this 26-track CD, with the addition of historical liner notes. Four of the cuts on "From Nowhere” —and more than half of “Trogglodynamite” — never came out in the U.S., and collectors have sometimes wondered why “Trogglodynamite" in particular was not more heavily represented on compilations or reissues. VENTURES -Beach Party (COLLECTION)-Label:ACME Founded in Tacoma, Washington in 1958, the Ventures made a significant contribution to the surf music scene which unfolded between 1961-63. They were a revelation then, their style and humour continues to speak to us today. The song that started the Ventures phenomenon was their arrangement of ‘Walk, Don’t Run.’ The group were in awe of Chet Atkins and were inspired to adapt his slightly baroque interpretation of the Johnny Smith composition. The hit brought the Ventures to national prominence and began a career of five decades and more, which has seen the release of over 250 albums worldwide. The 1962 long-player, "Beach Party" is undoubtedly one of the finest and most coherent of all original 1960s Ventures concept albums and is the centerpiece of this anthology of their early years. Our edition comprises selections from each of their first nine albums and some rare single-only releases (including Part One of Mel Taylor’s '2,000 Pound Bee' on which a fuzz tone / distortion box was used for the first time), all complimented by the addition of the historic Johnny Smith and Chet Atkins recordings of the seminal ‘Walk, Don’t Run. CD $10 SKU:21302

AFRICA AIRWAYS One & Two-Funk Connecion 1973-80 /Funk Departurures 1973-1982Label:CHERRY RED First released in 2015 as two separate vinyl compilations, “Africa Airways” is a deep exploration into the furthest parts of 1970’s and early 1980’s African Funk and Cherry Red are proud to join forces with the ace London/Paris label Africa Seven to collect the two volumes together on CD for the first time. The last decade has seen the un-tapping of an apparent endless well of music from the mother continent and this compilation (in our not so biased opinion) uncovers some of the cream of the crop and stands as one of the finest exponents of the African take on the music that it directly influenced, that being the funk and disco from the USA.Featuring music from Cameroon, Nigeria, South Africa and the international African diaspora with artists including Manu Dibango, Jo Tongo and Jake Sollo this a truly pan-African affair, full of analogue synths, polyrhythms, rich vocals, jangling guitars and production slicker than oil. For lovers of music to get down to, this will make your rubber soled shoes burn. The original pressing of the vinyl compilations sold out so quickly that another two represses had to be made to keep up with demand. For those not to latch on to the vinyl resurgence and prefer the old school CD format, this compilation is the one for you!!! File under: Funk, Makossa, Highlife, Awesome. COMP CD $15 SKU:21303

GAME FOR ALL WHO KNOW -The H & F Recordings 5 Box SET! (includes: Agincourt, Ithaca, Alive Through the Looking Glass, Tomorrow Come Someday, Friends)Label:GRAPEFRUIT Between 1968 and 1974, amateur songwriters, musicians and home taping enthusiasts Peter Howell and John Ferdinando – aka H & F Recordings – retreated to their makeshift home studio in East Sussex to mastermind a series of privately-issued albums that were attributed to semi-fictitious groups such as Ithaca and Agincourt. Only pressed in double-digit quantities, those albums are now amongst the most valuable vinyl artefacts of the era, with copies selling for upwards of £2,000 on the extremely rare occasions that they surface. "A Game For All Who Know: The H & F Recordings Box" gathers together all four albums and adds an unreleased-at-the-time fifth, the Friends LP “Fragile," which was abandoned at acetate stage after Howell accepted an invitation in 1974 to join the BBC Radiophonic Workshop on a full-time basis. The first four albums are presented in miniature card sleeve replicas of the original vinyl artwork, while the Friends album recreates the duo’s original plans for the artwork had the LP reached pressing stage. Taken from the original master tapes, and with a lavish booklet that features a new 7000-word essay on their activities, fresh interview quotes and previously unpublished photos, "A Game For All Who Know" collects a fascinating and body of work.” COMP CD $35 SKU:21304

CHURLS-SEND ME NO FLOWERS PLUS ST cd (Canadian'60's psychedelic)- Label:PACEMAKER he chord-crunching blues-rock on the Churls self-titled debut was hardly a million-seller for A&M. Still, that didn't stop Herb Alpert from issuing a second set of songs for the lads later that very same year. And for an obscure Toronto quintet churning out a mix of Claptonesque power chords and proto-boogie in the coffee houses of Yorkville, the trip out to A&M's studios must have seemed like the chance of a lifetime. But as their manager Bill Riley recalls in the blogosphere, it turned out to be a silly move in hindsight. "We all wrote, arranged and practised 24/7 on creating definite British converted American blues sounds, which unfortunately due to a lousy agreement with A&M were not able to be recorded. Old Herbie Alpert wanted a sort of rocky yet not too harsh sound from a Canadian band... (but) in order to get the studio time and hope for some exposure, we took the deal." The Churls may have fancied themselves contemporaries of Cream or the Rolling Stones, but Alpert probably had his sights set more on a radio world about to fill up with the rock-lite of Norman Greenbaum, the Jaggerz and Sugarloaf. On the resulting follow-up “Send Me No Flowers” the late-sixties blues-rock dots are all connected. Those creamy Hammond organs and searing guitars are everywhere, propping up Robert O'Neil's heady vocal, especially on the buoyant title cut and the equally hard-hitting 'See My Way'. Even so, Alpert sent pink slips instead of roses, and it wasn't long before the Churls' brief moment on rock's stage had ended. Two LPs on one CD CD $10 SKU:15406

CD $10 SKU:19180

HEARTBROKERS - VOL 10 (Original aussie rocknroll, plus the Don Nix classic Goin Down) Label:OFF THE HIP Remember The Lazy Cowgirls or have you heard Pat Todd’s subsequent work with The Rank Outsiders? The Heartbrokers are coming from a similar musical place without the former’s amped-up abrasiveness, plus a good deal more boogie. Coincidentally considering its name, The Heartbrokers’ song “Rank Outsider” is a reflective moment for pause that’s worth bottling. Van Walker’s knowing vocal really nails it. The languid but warm "Have No Fear" follows and the sequencing makes for a nice pigeon-pairing.
Fact: There's not a bad cut among the 10. It might have been rawly recorded but Van Walker, Lang and co-producer/mixer Colin Wynne have done a bang-up job, sonically speaking. God bless the Melbourne music scene and all who sail in her. 194 CD $10 SKU:19700

JOHN’S GREEN- ST (L.A. 60s psych GREEK pressing ) w liners -Label:ACID SYMPOSIUM Strange Kim Fowley produced psychedelic opus—'canyon music' as this Los Angeles area group might have described it; strange songs about the fires of hell and spacemen from Venus with some anti 'flower power' songs and stoned sounding jams that show why they were touted by Fowley as the next 'in-thing'—they weren't, of course, but a strong album all the same CD $10 SKU:18973

STEVE AND THE BOARD - Complete - with 21 page booklet Label:OFF THE HIP The Australian band Steve & the Board made some British Invasion-style records in the mid-'60s, getting some success in Australia with the singles "The Giggle Eyed Goo" and "I Call My Woman Hinges 'Cause She's Something to Adore." All the members were in their late teens when they recorded for the Spin label, and their progress was no doubt eased by having a lead singer, Steve Kipner, whose dad Nat Kipner was the head of Spin Records. The group wasn't a mere manufactured boy band, though, as in fact much of their material was original, contributed by several members (though most often guitarist Carl Keats). In their blend of British R&B and pop/rock influences, their recordings were fairly solid straight-ahead rock that criss-crossed attributes of the Beatles, the Byrds, Merseybeat, and raunchier groups like the Pretty Things. They issued just one album, though, and a couple of non-LP singles CD $10 SKU:17912

TERRY & THE PIRATES- Too Close For Comfort (70s )-Label:ACADIA Twenty nine years after the release of the original Too Close For Comfort comes the third issue of this priceless and timeless music from San Francisco's own Terry & The Pirates.” Another view: “Probably only remembered today as one of the many bands graced by the guitarwork of John Cipollina following his departure from Quicksilver Messenger Service, and as a footnote in the career of Nicky Hopkins, Terry and the Pirates deserve much greater recognition. Although Cipollina’s feral guitar is undoubtedly essential to their charms, the work of Terry Dolan himself should not be underestimated. His voice is an acquired taste, a strange mixture of David Crosby and Captain Beefheart, but as such, it’s impressively distinctive. Meanwhile, his songwriting mines that same rich vein of American folk which yielded ‘Pride Of Man’ (so memorably covered by Quicksilver). The best songs on this collection of various live and studio recordings are certainly Dolan’s own. Whilst a version of Jackie Wilson’s ‘Higher & Higher’ might be entertainingly audacious, covers of ‘Mystery Train’ and ‘Don’t Do It’ aren’t going to make anybody forget those by The Band, despite some impressive sparring between Cipollina and second guitarist Greg Douglass on the latter. In this context, tracks like ‘Inside and Out’ and ‘Inlaws and Outlaws’ distinguish themselves as fine examples of original Californian rock n’ roll. Even if none of this is especially ground-breaking or epoch-defining music, it’s played with spirit and any fans of West Coast music who might have easily overlooked it should be sure to rectify their mistake. APRIL MARCH & STEVE HANFT -Magic Monsters (FRench flower Pop) DINGED CORNER BARGAIN! 180 gram Label:MARTYRS OF POP (France) SMALL DINGED CORNER, BIG SAVINGS! French pop/psych treat for all! Record Collector said of the album: “French pop meets flower pop: April March is a highly talented individual who’s collaborated with Brian Wilson and Quentin Tarantino, illustrated with Spiderman creator Steve Ditko, animated for Ren & Stimpy and here hooks up with film director and musician Hanft, harking back to classic 1960s French pop and West Coast psych. March’s lyrical, melodic tones gently trip over each song, with ‘Attention Cherie’ a study in tippy-toe French pop and ‘Flashback Part II’ supplying more grit with simple March vocal stylings on a romantic bent. When Haft pipes up, even while claiming to be a ‘Killer on the run…,’ the atmosphere retains a sense of period innocence, with flowers a-plenty and sunshine beaming. 4 stars.” the label said: “Tracking April March's movements is a complicated matter. She plays very few shows but packs them in when she does. Her songs, perhaps because of their hyper-originality and cinematic style, appear often in films including in the work of Quentin Tarrentino, Gus Van Sant, and Alexander Payne. She has recorded and collaborated with great artists like Brian Wilson, Ronnie Spector, Bertrand Burgalat, Jonathan Richman and Alain Chamfort. Her early career as an illustrator, assisting Spider Man's creator Steve Ditko, and as animator for such cult favorites as Ren and Stimpy and Pee Wee’s Playhouse betrays her innate gift for both visual and iconoclastic expression.” 180 gram vinyl, limited to 500 copies. DEEP--Psychedelic Moods-A Mind Expanding PhenomenaTRIPLE LP! -Label:LION First legit LP reissue of this much beloved Canadian pop-psych rarity! Insert with rare photos, lyrics and band history•Limited to 500 copies
Rare yet much beloved Canadian pop-psych record from 1968—an album considered by many to be the best to come out of Canada during the late 1960’s! Built around the talents of singer/guitarist Jay Tefler and bassist Fergus Hambleton, A Passing Fancy made their name in Toronto's vibrant Yorkville Village scene. That initial successes playing Toronto's club circuit led to a headlining stint at the 1967 Toronto Expo. The resulting publicity saw them "discovered" by Columbia Records, who subsequently released a string of four outstanding pop/psych singles. Here's where it gets weird. In spite of the four hit singles, Columbia elected not to release an album. Indie label Boo Records was formed to release "A Passing Fancy" on LP (the singles plus four additional tracks). Although the LP received strong reviews, Boo Records couldn't sustain promotion; by the end of the year the band had called it quits. A shame, as it's a terrific album—tough edgy rock (slashing lead track and hit single, ‘I’m Losing Tonight’); pop/psych (singles tracks ‘A Passing Fancy,’ ‘You're Going Out Of Your Mind,’ and ‘She Phoned’); sunshine pop (‘I Believe in Sunshine’); a great acid rock meltdown (‘Your Trip’). Something for everybody! As usual, we went all out to try to produce a top-notch reissue. A few years of searching led us to A Passing Fancy lead singer, rhythm guitarist, primary song-writer, and later, screenwriter (1977's Kid Vengeance, starring Jim Brown, Lee Van Cleef and Leif Garrett is his), the late Jay Telfer. He supplied a band history and lyrics for all the songs to round out this reissue. LP $ SKU:16837

RAVEN -Who Do You See(1972 hard rock prog)-Label:GOLDEN PAVILION George Phelps who had joined The Carnations met up with Goliath members in a studio and through a myriad of circumstances, teaming up with drummer Robert Wolff (ex "Micah") these musicians merged into Raven in Louisville KY in late 1972 (even though they were all fro Terra Haute, Indiana). From this moment on, the band toured extensively through 24 states non-stop for the next four years before recording this material in 1976, which remained unreleased until today. Soon after the recording was completed, Raven got a record deal with Capricorn records. Two weeks later, Capricorn went bankrupt. The tapes were subsequently destroyed in a fire. Raven was literally like fish out of water, and slowly but steadily what had felt like the beginning of something unique, was lost. Musically the album relies on a hard driving progressive sound with a very rhythmic approach, filled with virtuoso guitar & keyboard solos as well as pulsating bass lines in a hard-rock backing. Think Primus meets Emerson, Lake & Palmer with a touch of Yes, Deep Purple, Rush and Dream Theater. Features Robert Wolff, previously with Micah and currently with Corvus Stone. Limited to 500 copies LP $22 SKU:21072

THEE PROPHETS- Playgirl (1969 Hendrix style) SEALED ORIGINAL w drill hole-Label:KAPP This band from Wisconsin had a promising pop future, thanks to their minor Bubblegum/sunshine pop hit ‘Playgirl,’ but stopped recording after this 1969 album, and then ditched the bubble-gum sound for Jimi Hendrix and Cream covers in concert. So much for a career. This, from Bubblegum University: “The most common schizophrenic theme, paranoia, combines the self-centeredness of narcissism with the hopelessness of depression to make the sufferer feel as if the entire world is against them. Two songs, "It's Up to You, Petula," and the Rare Breed's "Beg, Borrow, and Steal," make the comparison of being kept on a string as a way to illustrate the mental control that someone has over them. The singer in "Dizzy" makes no such metaphor, but admits to the object of his affections, "Girl, you got control of me." "It's Up to You, Petula" illustrates a different type of paranoia, when the singer complains, "I know you've been seeing someone else." LP $8 SKU:17125
