LP3 and The Tragedy- Southland Hum LTD ED PURPLE VINYL -Label:MAPLEWOOD Louie Perez III and his band the Tragedy emerged from the type of musical lineage and pedigree that produces not just great records, but interesting records. LP3 & the Tragedy’s debut record Southland Hum is just that, a great record that tells an interesting story. Louie shares his father’s name, Louis Perez Jr., who happens to be a founding member of the seminal American rock band Los Lobos. Born in East Los Angeles, Louie III has lived all around the southland culminating in the experiences that make up this record. Louie has always been a talented artist, becoming well-known in the tattoo scene where he works at the venerated Shamrock Social Club in Hollywood.Southland Hum tells the stories of Californians through the lens of its everyday average people. Numbers such as Farm, Uneasy Street, City of Dreams and Southland Hum describe the vivid landscapes of Southern California and the people who live, love and work there. These aren’t the lives of celebrities and the Hoi Polloi. These are the lives of migrants, the working-man, and young people searching for a meaningful existence. Join Louie (Guitar, Vocals), Ruby Rosas (Bass, Vocals), Eric Fuller (Drums, Percussion), Carlos Guzman (Guitars), and Mike Berault (Keys, Accordion) as they take you along for a ride telling a story about Southern California’s rich landscape of rolling hills that are intermixed with miles of concrete, worn art deco buildings, and the aspiring dreams of those looking to get into show business or even just a decent well-paying job. And in the background of it all shines the hazy, skewed faded sunshine of Southern California.Praise For LP3 and The Tragedy:“There are members sprouted from the PanAmerican roots of Los Lobos and tweaked by the dark, swampy blues of The Gun Club. There are members who have refined their chops in punk, ska, and funk but inevitably turned their attention toward the roots of it all. united and propelled by a sense of family through blood, touring, and DIY culture, LP3 and the Tragedy posses a staggering combined mass of musical tastes, talent, and muscle memory” - Martin Wong LP $19 SKU:17629

VAUGN, BEN -Texas Road Trip-Label:MAPLEWOOD Ben Vaughn has had the type of rock n roll career that hasn’t just been successful, but fascinating as well. He has always done things his own way carving a niche and career that is unlike any other. Growing up in Collingswood, New Jersey, out of high school, Ben worked in a knitting mill, as a delivery-truck driver and even a landscaper before he decided that life wasn’t going to be suitable for him. From there, he has gone on to record numerous acclaimed records both with The Ben Vaughn Combo, his band, and as a solo artist as well.Presented now as a Maplewood Records reissue is Ben Vaughn’s excellent 2014 release Texas Road Trip. It is both a tribute to Texas rock n roller legend Doug Sahm of Sir Douglas Quintet fame, (Bob Dylan is a big fan) while also being completely original material written by Ben. Think of it as if Ben Vaughn wrote a bunch of numbers and got some of Sahm’s former band members to record them with him making it sound like it could be a Doug Sahm record. This is exactly what happened when Ben traveled to Austin, Texas to record the tracks with Augie Meyers (Keys, Squeezebox), Alvin Crow (Fiddler, Strings), Speedy Sparks (Bass), John X. Reed (Guitar), and Mike Buck (Drums), respectively.Tracks like Heavy Machinery, Sleepless Nights, and Seven Days Without Love are signature Ben Vaughn numbers but done with a Texas rock n roll ambience. With Ben Vaughn, you can count on having a tight record with tracks that will make you move your feet and lyrics that will make you think.Maplewood Records is proud to release this instant classic in United States and around the world. Texas Road Trip is a must have for any Ben Vaughn fan and a welcome to any music lovers collection. Enjoy! LP $19 SKU:17628

RED KRAYOLA - Coconut Hotel SAALE-Label:DRAG CITY Coconut Hotel hails from 1967, when it was recorded for International Artists in the wake of the international success of The Parable of Arable Land. Too far out for its day (!), Coconut Hotel was eventually issued on Drag City in 1995 and features the original Red Crayola at their most extremely experimental, while still retaining the air of whimsey ('One-Second Pieces') that permeates all their releases." REDONDOS - Full Circle With - ( glossy Inlay w/pic and liners. 300 copies only ) Label:BREAK-A-WAY 10 track collection by pre United Travel Service Band; Painstakingly remastered at KSL; Incl. unreleased originals; Great LP sized full glossy Inlay w/pic and liners. 300 copies only
Limited, vinyl-only release for collectors and connoisseurs of vintage garage music and offers a valuable insight into the history of one of the most exciting Pacific Northwest psychedelic Bands - The United Travel Service. Founded in Portland, Oregon, three members of UTS took their first musical steps in the Redondos. Like their successors, the band left a large number of unreleased recordings dating from 1965. Influenced by early sixties Surf and inspired by the British Invasion, the Redondos created a unique sound belting out an amazing mix of storming Surf tunes, Rock ‘n’ Roll standards, and moody originals, written by lead guitarist Ben Hoff. The innocent charm of their Beau Brummels type edgy folkbeat already reflects the magic and authenticity of the later United Travel Service material and sets The Redondos apart from the typical mid-sixties regional Northwest Sound of the time. The Redondos never released any records, but after a serious run through their musical legacy, we have sorted out and remastered their best tracks to a great blend of enjoyable covers and stand-out originals sounding like a rockin' Bobby Fuller Four is meeting the moody beat of the Beau Brummels. For the group, these recordings reflect a special moment in time after a gap of nearly fifty years. LP $18 SKU:15156

- Professionally remastered original FM recording with background liners and rare archival photos.
- 180-gram vinyl.
180-gram vinyl. Lou Reed's 1976 album Rock and Roll Heart wasn't a showcase for the usual diverse aspects of his musical outpouring; it was a shower of bullets, shot at any given interested targets. Unfortunately for Reed, most of the shots missed, but we can be certain that the gun was loaded. His Boston show from October 1976 at the Orpheum Theatre drew the usual suspects with a snapshot of young punks, and included a performance of "Heroin" that differs remarkably from the more familiar versions rolled out on stage in the early days with Nico et al. and on Transformer (1972). WBCN-FM's presence warranted expectations that Reed may not have wanted or respected, but his vision is rarely blurred. The familiar resolute figure took the stage with the singular demeanor he was authorized to parade, but with the quiet seduction and subdued authority that always set him apart. Echoes proudly presents the entire original WBCN-FM broadcast of Lou Reed's astonishing performance at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 29, 1976. Professionally remastered original FM recording with background liners and rare archival photos LP $32 SKU:17100

RHYTHM CHECKERS, THE- 1966/67 Wild Raw Eurobeat (60’s raw garage blues ) -Label:GROOVIE Exceptional beat group playing a raw mixture of rhythm and blues and rock and roll with a wild garage attitude. Maybe we can call them the European Sonics. Formed by musicians native to France, Germany and Holland with Roland 'Bouboule' Bauer (vocal), the regretted Robby Sterheim (lead guitar), Eddy Van Nelfen (rhythm guitar), Kurth Horbach (bass), later replaced by Dany Gentner and Norbert Holweck (drums), they set the stage on fire during their shows in France between the years 1966 and 1967. It is in Strasbourg where The Rhythm Checkers release their first EP with their powerful composition 'Cause I Need You,' which is a real classic of European garage rock. Their second EP is a unique document of their stage savageness thanks to these recordings captured live when they opened for Chuck Berry in Paris on February 1967. It's amazing how these guys made it live... they make my wig jump listening on record. The eight mythical tracks of their two rare records are present on this LP, and as a bonus, both sides of their single recorded in 1972 during the reformation of the group under the name of Checkers in the prog-pop style of the time. The record comes with an insert with all the history and never-published photos of the band, both in English and French. Limited release of 500 copies only!" LP $18 SKU:8124

ONE OF THE BEST DUTCH MOD, BEAT, PSYCH BANDS AROUND AT THE TIME...
TOP LEVEL 60'S PSYCHPOP SONGS
One of Hollands greatest, unheralded bands, the Ro-d-ys hailed from the small village of Oude Pekela, in the northeast province of Groningen. From this remote rural outpost, carved out of the regions peat bogs, the Ro-d-ys burst forth onto the Dutch music scene in 1967 with a uniquely original sound that was always several steps removed from the rest of the beat music pack. Between 1967 and 1969 they released two albums, along with a string of unerringly inventive and melodic singles, including the Top 10 hits Take Her Home and Just Fancy. Take Here Home: The Philips 45s is a magnificent double-album collection, presenting all of the Ro-d-ys A- and B-sides of their 45rpm releases in their original mono mixes, along with an array of bonus tracks, including choice selections from their Just Fancy and Earnest Vocation LPs, hard-to-find obscurities like Tomorrow and a previously unreleased version of Flowers Everywhere. ROGERS , KENNY - & THE FIRST EDITION "LIVE VEGAS '72-Label:MAPLEWOOD The New Christy Minstrels helped launch the careers of such notables as Gene Clark (The Byrds) and Kim Carnes; it also helped launch the careers of Kenny Rogers and Mike Settle. After a short stint with the Minstrels, Rogers and fellow members Mike Settle, Terry Williams, and Thelma Camacho left the group. They formed The First Edition in 1967 (later renamed "Kenny Rogers and The First Edition"). Yes, that Kenny Rogers. The Gambler. But before he was the Gambler, Kenny was a long hair with an earring and pink sunglasses.Presented here, by Maplewood Records, for the first time ever is a live album that was recorded over three nights at the Las Vegas Hilton in 1972. The lineup for the First Edition during this recording included newcomers Gene Lorenzo on Hammond organ and Jimmy Hassell on guitar/backing vocals replacing the departed Mike Settle. The record was produced by Jim Callon, founding member of the Glass Family, in the year after the concert recordings. It was cut from several nights and meant to showcase the band’s live acumen, which was a tight hard rocking machine. It delivers. Long buried in Jim’s garage, you will hear hot versions of such notable numbers as 'King of Rock n’ Roll,' 'Tell It All', 'Take This Hammer', and the band's biggest hit 'Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In).' When listening to this record, it’s easy to imagine yourself in a smoky nightclub in the Las Vegas Hilton, don’t you think? Maybe having a cocktail with your old lady or old man after an afternoon of hitting the tables? Give it a listen and see where it takes you. Limited to 500 copies.
