NEW ARRIVALS

13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS - Psychedelic Sounds Of (1966 classic!) - Label:COLLECTABLES If The 13th Floor Elevators didn't invent the psychedelic sound, they were certainly among it's earliest explorers with the original release of this album in the August of 1966. Clever use of instruments and sound effects, along with the ponderous lyrical explorations of an acid trip, The 13th Floor Elevators expanded minds and the music industry. CD $8 SKU:20318

AVE ROCK - ESPACIOS (70s space psych)Label:FONOCOL Ave Rock was a pioneer of symphonic prog in Argentina, their second album "Espacios" being their most accomplished effort. The band's ambitions are evidently high, as it can be inferred from the expansive nature of 'Pausa en Espacios' (21 minutes) and 'Surcos en el Aire' (15 minutes). The band has a lot of strong points: an ability to organize diverse musical motifs with cohesion, a clever management of textures and tempo shifts, robust skills, and solid interplay. While references to Yes are evident in Ave Rock's global sound, Ave Rock's music tends to be more reflective, so their major foreign influences stem from the eerie melancholy of 1973-75 Pink Floyd, Genesis' dramatic sensibility, and some of the special ethereal magic usually associated to Invisible, another compatriot band that was influential in the local rock scene during the early 70s. Keyboardist Alfredo Salomone adds a touch of distinction with his hord progressions, and layers on organ and synthesizer. CD $15 SKU:20330

CONTRALUZ- Americanos (1973 Argentine prog)-Label:FONOCAL There seems to be a tendency in music to label anything that has a flute in it as folk music, and anything that has both flute and keyboards as progressive folk. And of course anything with flute and heavy guitar is automatically branded “Jethro Tull-esque.”That said, in the case of the debut album from Contraluz (1973) there are places where it sounds like folk music, places where it sounds progressive, and places where it sounds like a South American Jethro Tull. Or, as the band said, “We started off as a kind of imitation of Jethro Tull, but throughout the years we evolved towards a symphonic rock influenced by local folk music such as the ‘carnavalito’ (which in fact comes from Bolivia) with a touch of ‘milonga’ or even ‘tango’ every now and then.” CD $17 SKU:20332

ESTRUCTURA - Más alla de tu mente (FIRST Venezuelan prog rock from 1977 ) Label:NOT ON LABEL Estructura has the unique distinction of being the first Venezuelan prog band. Even more amazing is the fact that they came around when progressive rock was on the decline. They were formed in 1977 by David Maman (keyboards, voice, main composer), Antonio Rassi (lead guitar, composer), Agni Mogollón (bass, voice, composer), Domenico Prioretti (drums, vocals), Walton de Jongh (special percussion, effects), Marisela Perez (lead vocals), and Maria Eugene Ciliberto (rhythmic and acoustic guitar). Their first album, "Más Allá De Tu Mente" (Beyond Your Mind), was very much like Rick Wakeman's "Journey to the Center of the Earth." It had two pieces, each taking up an album side. Although like Wakeman’s album it also features a narrator, the structure (no pun intended) of the music is completely different. At 65 minutes, it is one of the longest vinyl recordings to be made in Venezuela. One thing that characterized most bands of the Venezuelan symphonic prog scene is the addition of Latin-American elements to their british prog oriented sound (the best example of this is Vytas Brenner) and Estructura is no exception. CD $17 SKU:20333

HIGH TREASON- ST (1970 spacey, bluesy psych Airplane style) Label:GEAR FAB Yes, that's not a replication of the American Flag on the top left of this picture....it's a packet containing actual American Flag rolling papers, compliments of High Treason!! This 1970 self-titled LP was recorded in Philadelphia and actually featured several musicians that played with Perry Leopold. Featuring the beautiful and haunting female vocals of Marci Rauer, this music is spacey, bluesy, and CD $10 SKU:20321

J.D. BLACKFOOT- Ohio Dream (70s Killer psych guitar)Killer psych guitar, combined a strong British sound with the distinctive song-oriented California sound of Grateful Dead and Neil Young, two of the main inspirations for many an aspiring rock musician of the time. However, despite the laid back rural West Coast sound that the band effortlessly cultivates, shades of UK progsters such as Jethro Tull and the Moody Blues often come to the fore revealing what is, in essence the group's true musical intentions. CD $8 SKU:20349

LITTO NEBBIA-Fuera del cielo (1972 ARGENTINE PROG ROCK)Label:Melopea Discos This CD includes all tracks from the first Litto Nebbia LP, "Fuera del Cielo", and three bonus tracks representing the very first recordings of the band done in 1972 and previously unreleased. “This album represents the beginning of the most creative phase of a trio featuring Nebbia (leader of Argentine rock band Los Gatos), together with Jorge González and Néstor Astarita. Here they add music to lyrics culled from the poetry of Mirta Defilpo. A work of definite progressive caliber which continues along the familiar song structured path, although in no way conforming to normal limitations. All tracks feature harmonic arrangements, counterpoints and instrumental sequences that blend with the sung passages. The music is remarkably original, and is probably the most striking example of romanticism in progressive rock. I can't remember any other album from that era, the contents of which are as bright and completely free of dramatics as those of "Fuera del Cielo". It is an amazingly strong effort, which is on par with most of the best albums released in 1975. There is no doubt that the original LP would have an immediate international success if it would've been released somewhere in Europe or the USA or had a proper distribution. CD $12 SKU:20338

LOS JAIVAS -Alturas de Macchu Picchu en conciert (Live 1998 Chilean Prog) Label:AROMA Complete original album live, recorded at Teatro Providencia november 1998, plus 5 live bonus tracks (Teatro Monumental, May 2000). Direct from the master tapes. Complete 16-page booklet with lyrics, discography, history of the band, photos. 80 minutes! Bonus tracks : Tarka y Ocarina (instrumental master progressive song from 1976) + Takirari del puerto + Cancion del sur + Mamalluca (with orchestra) + Presentacion. A masterpiece, never before on CD!" Seeing Los Jaivas playing live is an experience not to be missed, especially for those who are natives of Chile. In case you have not had the opportunity to do so, this live album captures to the full extent possible, the energy and mysticism that is a hallmark of the band, probably the most important in the history of Chilean music. CD $15 SKU:20339

MAGIC - Enclosed -RARE GUITAR ACID PSYCH 60s )- Label: GEAR FAB An original sound by an uncommon band. Very rare music by this band from psychedelic era. Guitar acid sound on the trails of sixty California Heroes such us Quicksilver Messenger Service and Dead. CD $10 SKU:20337

MATERIA GRIS -Ohperra Vida De Beto (1972 Argentine psych rock Pretty Things style!) -Label:MARDEL X A very nice official reissue of this Argentinian rock album from 1972; with some excellent psychedelic touches, this is one of the finest South American albums we've heard. Some have said that it sounds a bit like a South American version of the Pretty Things’ “S.F. Sorrow”, in part because it's a concept record about some poor bastard’s life and death. It's mainly instrumental (minimal vocals); overall an excellent psych album, loaded with melodic orchestration, effects and searing guitar work. The A-side, sub-titled “Sweet Opera,” is more calm, and the B-side “Bitter Opera,” more intense, although the whole disc is rich in stylistic shifts. Litto Nebbia (ex-Los Gatos and Huinca) played piano as guest, along with (allegedly) Bernardo Baraj (Alma y Vida) on saxophone, backed by an anonymous orchestra. Although released in 1972, it certainly sounds like late 1960's psych—very good indeed. CD $15 SKU:20340

NOSY PARKER - ST (!975 Brit folk prog) Label:GEAR FAB Nosy Parker, their classic 1975 self-titled LP. Nosy Parker's one and only album is a collection of original folk songs and ballads. The music was influenced by British folk-rock and progressive styles, combining acoustic 6 and 12-string guitar with the dramatic effects of synthesized guitar, sustained distortion, and background keyboard support.CD $10 SKU:20322

OPA-Back Home: The Lost 1975 SessionsLabel:LION Rhythm-laden tracks that range from the heavily funkified to chilled out, shimmering, and trance-inducing. A 16-page booklet includes band history and photos. CD $12 SKU:20343

PIEL DE PUEBLO -Rock de las Heridas(heavy psychedelic rock 1972 Argentine)Label:RECORD RUNNER Epochal heavy psychedelic rock album, first issued in 1972; Argentine rock pioneers Pajarito Zaguri and extraordinary guitarist Nacho Smilari (formerly in La Barra de Chocolate and Vox Dei) got together to form this short-lived group. The most remarkable tracks are ‘Silencio para un pueblo dormido’, with a brilliant driven guitar, the long ‘La tierra en 998 pedazos’ featuring a killer hard-rock finale, ‘Jugando a las palabras’ with wah-wah guitar, and ‘Por tener un poco más,’ featuring the electric violin of Héctor López Furst. The lyrics are highly committed to the political and social matters of the era. An album highly recommended to followers of Pappo's Blues. Heavy, heavy, heavy, and very good. CD $14 SKU:20345

RHUBARBS REVENGE - Confessions Of A Big Lankey Dope (1973 classic psych )Label:GEAR FAB Don't let the title of this 1973 album fool you - this New Jersey-based band laid down some great covers of period music, and their original material isn't bad either - fewer than 100 copies of the original LP were pressed CD $10 SKU:20264

SIGMUND SNOPEK III- Virginia Woolf (1973 Sgt Pepper style) Label:GEAR FAB The masterpiece Sgt. Pepperish classic from the former member of the zany and way ahead of its time Bloomsbury People. Sigmund put Milwaukee on the map after the release of this great 1973 LP. Bonus material included!! CD $10 SKU:20316

SWEET MARIE - Stuck in Paradise (1971 hard edged fuzz guitar) Label:GEAR FAB The 1971 classic lp from this Honolulu band. Kind of a hard-edged Steely Dan/Jethro Tull/Santana sound all rolled into one!! Features some great distorted fuzz guitar ! CD $10 SKU:20323

TOMBSTONE VALENTINE - Hidden World (60's/90's West Coast sound) -Label:AETHER Quintet with a 60's/90's West Coast sound. Hidden World was mostly recorded at home on a Tascam 238 8-track and features 4 compositions: the title track and the magnificent "Green Sky Night" are 2 pearls of modern West Coast psych rock with Grace Slick-like female lead vocals, wah wah guitar, Country Joe & The Fish type organ patterns and strange synth noises, while the other 2 numbers are purely instrumental and vaguely sound like one of the space jams of the Grateful Dead with Cork Marcheschi of 50 Foot Hose guesting on weird electronic noises. Especially the side-filling "Elastic Reality" is an impressive, long example of avant-garde psychedelics for the next millenium. Outstanding lp, long time since I heard a release that balances so neatly between tradition and experiment, and creates something new under the sun. (Crohingawell, Belgium) CD $8 SKU:20351

YANCY DERRINGER -Openers (1974 w Weedburner and more) Label:GEAR FAB Yancy Derringer was a four-piece band from Wisconsin that recorded an album titled Openers in 1976. With an original pressing of only 1000 copies, the album reflected the band's live act and creative talents in seven original songs. The sound of Yancy Derringer was similar to that of some of the more hard driven southern U.S. rock acts of the day such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band, Ozark Mountain Daredevils and many more. After selling out the initial thousand pressings very quickly, the band ordered a second pressing, which got caught up management hassles and was delayed. This caused fans to lose interest in the band; by 1976, the group's momentum had passed Yancy Derringer broke up, leaving the world with another limited pressing album. In the late '90s, Gear Fab acquired the rights to the band's original masters and released that long lost album for fans of '70s rock to enjoy. With detailed band history and song information as in all Gear Fab releases, Yancy Derringer can now take its place in the history of American rock music. ~ Keith Pettipas, Rov CD $10 SKU:20314

ANACRUSA-El Sacrificio/Fuerza (Early 70s S American RARITY)Label:RAYHUELA Born in the beginning of the 70's, this Latin fusion folk formation has delivered impressively original items in a rather discreet commercial success. The albums feature enchanting, warm female vocals, some prog arrangements and acoustic, classical guitar. I cannot exactly say when Anacrusa moved to France, but a new album on Phillips, a long gap between the third and fourth album and an entirely revamped line-up with many French musicians point to the band's immigration sometime around 1976/77.Actually the only stable members appearing on the album ''El Sacrificio'' (1978) were Anacrusa's founders Susana Lago and José Luis Castiñeira de Dios along with oboist Bruno Pizzamiglio, but these recordings include a huge core of 10 more musicians, mostly of French and Argentinian descent and a few of them were pretty experiened, keyboardist Phillip Pages had worked with Richard Vimal, violinist Patrice Mondon with Laurent Petitgerard and guitarist Daniel Alberto Sbarra was a member of Miguel Abuelo & Nada.On new lands Anacrusa still played a delicate Prog Folk, which has transformed into something different via the strong symphonic elements and the elegant orchestrations, while the use of electric guitar is definitely more pronounced.Again some Premiata Forneria Marconi inspirations are present, especially during the piano and violin parts, while the overall mood has moved away from the Andean Folk traditions and comes as a Symphonic/Folk Rock collage with soft interplays and instrumental depth. The music was conducted by de Dios, while Lagos provides the ultra-dramatic vocal lines, the smooth flute parts and some keyboard themes. The strong string section offers the Classical-spiced movements throughout and what actually this album reminds me is a bit of French band Wurtemberg.A change of scenery, which led to a change of sound with more progressive vibes and a pretty amazing, electroacoustic instrumental arsenal. (Ediciones Rayuela)CD $15 SKU:20266

ASTRAL PROJECTION- The Astral Scene (1968 Pop/Psych-get out the lava lamps! )-Label:GEAR FAB This 1968 Pop/Psychedelic Rock album is just chock full spacey instrumentation and utilizes horns, woodwind, and string sections very much like those used in Sgt. Peppers. The theme of this release is based upon the thoughts and feelings experienced if one were to leave the physical body (Astral Projection) and become the spiritual embodiment (Astral Body). The Astral Body begins to go back into the physical body and causes one to think about The Astral Scene…..There are some very nice male and female vocals which are backed up by the great orchestration and this LP is one to set the lights down low on and turn on the Lava Lamps!!! CD $10 SKU:19613

CRUCIS-En Vivo Enero 1977 (Blistering live material) -Label:RETRO REMASTERS A total of fifty-nine minutes of blistering live material from perhaps the most popular and vital progressive rock band to emerge from South America during the 1970's. We know this because we've sold literally hundreds of copies of their sole album on CD over the years. Not only does this disc feature a live show from Bueno Aires from 14 January 1977, it also has as bonus tracks two unreleased live cuts, one from 1976 and the other from 1974. CD $17 SKU:20268

HEATHCLIFF, JUSTIN- ST (70s paisley pop psych) - Label:WORLD PSYCHEDELIA "Long before attaining fame as a soundtrack composer and new age artist, Osamu Kitajima adopted a sufficiently Anglo pseudonym and released this amazing homage to British pop-psychedelia in 1971. Issued by Warner Bros. in Japan only, the LP has unsurprisingly climbed skywards in price ever since, and only a cave dweller could miss the faithful nods to Syd, Marc, John, Paul, George and Ringo in the original compositions and English lyrics. Osamu's ability around a studio was evident even then and the choice of genre to lovingly imitate predated the whole retro/'paisley' psych movement by about ten or fifteen years." CD $10 SKU:5970

INFINITY- Collected Works 1969-70 (UK psych legends) Label:ACME Legendary UK psych outfit Infinity formed in 1969 from the ashes of “Chocolate Soup” psych faves the Flies and Cymbaline. The mission: to develop a heavy psychedelic/pop sound, and express it through complex original songs. Thanks to some funky Hammond organ, punchy guitars, and the band’s unique harmonies, Infinity were no run of the mill outfit. Upon their return to mainland England from a residency in Jersey, they joined the high-profile NEMS agency, alongside heavy hitters like Pink Floyd, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Soft Machine, and Pretty Things. In late 1969 and early 1970, following support slots with The Searchers and Marmalade, Infinity recorded original material for a proposed album, which was meant to explore “time, space, matter, energy and chicken phal, said in some circles to be so hot in a culinary sense that it's temperature approached infinity,” or so they have said, with tongue-in-cheek, we have to believe. Sadly, they broke up soon after the sessions. The good news is that the band left behind the recordings presented on this disc, which can now be enjoyed in the digital format after the passage of more than four decades! Comes with a 24-page booklet which includes band history, photos, and more, printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. CD $10 SKU:11333

LENO - Vida e Obra de Johnny McCartney (1971 Brazilian Cream/ STeppenwolf style -Label:LION Leno’s “Vida e Obra de Johnny McCartney” was intended as the next musical step after Tropicália, it’s full-blooded rock and roll approach intended to link the music that had already been made to the music that would be played a few years later. This record just might have been that bold step had CBS released it in 1971. But censors banned most of the tracks, and Leno was fortunate (thanks perhaps to his string of innocent sounding Jovem Guarda number one chart hits in Brazil as half of duo Leno e Lillian) not to experience the exile or imprisonment of other artists of the time. He was also fortunate that the master tapes survived in the CBS vaults, making them available for this reissue. The album has a sound that has more to do with bands such as Sly & The Family Stone, the Beatles (post 1967), Cream, and Steppenwolf, and features contributions from music legends Marcos Valle, Raul Seixas (anarchic surrealistic icon of Brazilian counterculture), hard psych rockers A Bolha, and members of Los Shakers and Renato e Seus Blue Caps. One of the most singular records of the 1970’s rock era in Brazil, speaking in terms both historic and musical, with a significance in Brazil that makes people who know it well wonder how it has taken so long to be known worldwide, in a time when the efforts of the Brazilian rock and psychedelic underground scene are so well-documented. A 24-page booklet (packed with photos and lyrics) details Leno’s career, as well as the story behind this exceptional record. CD $12 SKU:20090

LULA CORTES -Rosa de Sangue (Brazilian 1973 private press monster rarity)-Label:TIME LAG deluxe reissue of this Brazilian private press monster rarity, the closing chapter of the amazing Recife psychedelic movement that flourished briefly in the Brazilian sun, centered around the singular talents of Lula Cortes. The Recife story began in 1973 with the creation of “Abracadabra,” Lula’s loose art/music/design collective. By the time of “Rosa,” Lula had produced and privately released Satwa, as well as Marconi Notaro’s “No sub reino dos metazoarios” LP (both in 1973). Cortes then started the legendary but incredibly short lived Solar label, releasing only two albums: 1975’s “Paebiru” double album under his own name, and a year later the lone album by Flaviola eo bando sol. As if that wasn’t enough, he was also heavily involved in other productions, and performed on seminal albums coming out of the region, including collaborations with Alceu Valença. By the end of the 1970’s, the Rozemblit recording studio/pressing plant had been destroyed by repeated floods, Abracadabra had run its course, and along with Lula’s marriage, the Solar label was no more. So, “Rosa de sangue” was conceived as a final tribute to the dying era. As Lula himself said, “I want to close all of this with a golden key”. Lula created an album overflowing with ideas. Along with the backing of his power trio, he was assisted by old friends, including Alceu Valença, Flaviola, Ze Ramalho de Flauta and Paulo Rafael. With hints of the past era and also of things to come, it is a truly wild audio experience, covering many styles and moods, from crazed ethno folk-rock, to magical, gentle, jungle folk/psych zones, to hard hitting, coke dusted fuzz rock, to insane mutant disco dance floor groove, to acid vocal raga trance, and way beyond. Compact disc version in a heavy mini LP style cover with exact reproduction original artwork, and a full color foldout mini poster insert with new liner notes by Lula Cortes. CD $14 SKU:20302

OM -ST (1976 Argentine rare prog) TWO ONLY!-Label:FONOCAL Originally only released in 1976—on cassette! OM was one of the bands that established progressive rock in Argentina. Unfortunately the career of OM only lasted about five years, with an intense number of concerts as revealed by the chronicles of the time; and why not, OM were known for the power of their live shows. This CD contains a live and unpublished live bonus track—an eighteen minute suite that lay forgotten for forty years. The legend of this album has transcended the borders of our country. OM has been a major figure in the books of Progressive Rock: some call this album The Holy Grail of Rock." Recordings compared to legendary sets by Crucis, Bubu, Aquelarre and Invisible. As one person who saw OM put it, "I saw them live around 1973/74 - I believe in the Regio - and they blew my head off. I had brought a tape recorder to the theater where it was absolutely distorted, but I listened to it a thousand times. CD $16 SKU:20274

OXFORDS - FLYING UP THROUGH THE SKY PART 2 (Jefferson Airplane style 1970) -Label:GEAR FAB When this Louisville, Kentucky Band recorded this classic 1970 LP, they also recorded 16 additional tracks between 1967 and 1971. These newly discovered tapes offer us more of their unique Spanky & Our Gang, Jefferson Airplane, and The Mamas & The Papas sound influences. All never before released. IMPORT CD $10 SKU:6200

PLUS-No pisar el infinito (Argentine hard rock legends 1976) 2 ONLY -Label:FONOCAL Debut album by Argentine hard rock legends, first released in 1976. The quartet came into being during a turbulent time, shortly before the coup, through which the country would fall into the hands of the dictatorship. The appearance of Plus' debut album, with the opener 'Noches de Rock 'n' Roll' (Nights of Rock and Roll") put them right up there in Argentina along with Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and other large international groups of the time. Plus represented a rock alternative in a scene abounding in fusion (jazz rock, progressive rock hybrids and tango, etc) and hippies; but the band's career was disrupted by censorship and exile of some of its leading figures. At that time, except for Vox Dei, there was hardly another band of such importance in the nation.CD $16 SKU:20276

SATWA- Lailson, Lula Côrtes (1973 Brazilian Folk trance gems)Label:TIME LAG Written, recorded and released just as Brazil's military dictatorship reached the climax of its long black arc, the one and only album by Satwa is a divinely subtle protest. Now reissued for the first time, Satwa, often cited as Brazil's first independent record, is a mellow starburst of acoustic jangle. Formed after the return of Lula Côrtes and Lailson from their respective foreign excursions (the former home after the requisite Moroccan sojourn, the latter a young long-hair back from the States), Satwa lasted only a year, perhaps due to their differing stripes. But for 11 days in January 1973 the pair jammed cross-legged and produced the folk trance gems that adorn this self-titled debut. At a time when censors caused newspapers to run cake recipes on their front pages in place of rejected news stories, Lailson only lets the occasional throat drone slip through his lips. Largely void of voice and word, the songs (Côrtes plucking steely leads from his sitar while Lailson's 12-string thrums crystalline chords) are loose and lovely. The sole interference in these glistening arabesques is the hoary electric fretwork Robertinho on ‘Blues do Cachorro Muito Louco,’ the most explicitly fried track. Otherwise, Côrtes and Lailson are left to experiment in musty silence. Seemingly taped live, each track is a dry documentation of the duo's gently rambling improvisations. Far from the recombinant psychedelia of tropicalismo that reigned over the pre-hippie underground in Brazil's bustling metropolises five years earlier, Satwa play bed peace bards. In double-mono, or fake stereo, Satwa is raw, untreated mentalism translated into pure songflow. At times exhausted and dusty – ‘Atom,’ or archaically splendorous (‘Valse Dos Cogumelos’), the duo's spiraling scrolls etched in rustic timbres unfurl gracefully. Satwa is a quiet triumph.” —Bernardo Rondeau, Dusted. The CD version is identical to the out of print LP version, only smaller—it comes in a mini LP style sleeve, with folded insert. MCKAY-Into You (STONER ROCK- One of the holy grails of 70s Indianapolis private-pressdom w Updated liner notes and exactly-transcribed lyrics.) -Label:LION One of the "holy grails" of Indianapolis private-pressdom (surpassed only by Zerfas and Anonymous) available again in its original format! Ray "McKay" Pierle and his musically-adept brothers and friends partied, jammed and partied some more on Indy's south side throughout the mid-70's, forming a band (Loos) which managed to garner zero media attention at the time. However, Ray's trusty Teac four-track was always close at hand and countless hours of home recordings were induced onto magnetic tape, as well as a few songs laid down at a local studio. After a brief hiatus, the core members reconvened as McKay, and created their sole document, the 300-press "Into You" album (1978); the LP was given to friends and family and consigned in nearby record shoppes. A mere 15 years had to pass before the collecting world discovered the highly-personal songwriting, tight playing, and not-so-well-hidden West-Coast stylistic touches. A vinyl reissue was locally produced back then but it's long gone, so here's a new all analogue, master tape edition for a new generation to savor. •All-analogue pressing, cut directly from the original master tapes. •Licensed from Ray Pierle with his full cooperation and support. •Updated liner notes and exactly-transcribed lyrics. LP $19 SKU:16350

MILLARD & DYCE - ST AKA OPEN (ACID ARCHIVES GEM, 70s folk rock) Label:VOID •Vinyl reissue debut for this Acid Archives gem. "... Impressive, successful mix of electric and acoustic contemporary folk blues, with three guitars and bass. The typical private press weakness in singing and playing is missing; instead we get earthy, convin cing vocals delivering no-bullshit tunes on Native Americans, the environment and society, mixed with more private love songs. A definite Tim Hardin influence can be heard, and as often it’s an advantage, especially since the emotional commitment of Millard & Dyce is so very real. A musical equivalent of those great old 70s movies like “The Scarecrow” or “Five Easy Pieces”; skillfully spun tales from the American underbelly with no desire to compromise. Fenner, Leland & O’Brien is a possible comparison, and this is at least as good." —Patrick Lundborg (RIP), Acid Archives. Millard and Dyce was a folk-rock band formed in the 1970's, and based in Baltimore. They toured on the east coast for several years and released just the one album via custom vinyl purveyors Century/Kaymar in 1973, which has since become a rare collector's item, recently selling in excess of $400. First time reissued on vinyl. LP $17 SKU:19625

STEPSON- Lost Tapes (Bluesy hard rock 1974 Ltd ed with insert , liners and photos )-Label:LION/ VINTAGE Including full size insert with detailed liner notes by Doug Sheppard, plus photos, and lyrics Bluesy hard rock band that rose from the ashes of Touch. Their sole album was released on ABC/Dunhill Records in 1974. Despite the fact that the band never toured in support of their amazing album, over the years the word has gotten out about this incredible album and the band enjoys cult success among collectors. Easily one of the best examples of "cock rock" ever put onto wax.• Long sought after unreleased recordings from this hard-nosed raunchy Detroit-style 70s hard rock band whose 1974 debut album on ABC is highly regarded. • "You can bet your bottom dollar that somewhere at the opposite end of the Time Tunnel, Winterhawk's seven-minute piece de resistance 'Period of Change' is more revered than Kansas's 'Dust in The Wind,' and Macarus is playing in Deep Purple instead of Steve Morse. Seriously, Winterhawk are that good."- Geoff Barton (Classic Rock)• "In my past twenty years as an addict of heavy guitar music, I have never heard anyone who played the electric guitar like Jordan Macarus. The three songs that Macarus wrote on his own in 1979 ('Period of change', 'Revival' and 'Free to Live') I shall take with me into my grave, because I don't think I will ever hear anything like that again even in the afterlife." - Sacred Metal

• "It's unquestionably the regularly dazzling fretwork of guitarist Jordan Macarus that provides the foundation of Winterhawk's every move. Whether harmonizing with himself, Thin Lizzy-like, on most every number, alternating gently picked classical guitar figures with crunchy power chords à la Randy Rhoads on the title track, or peeling off a jazzy, fleet-fingered display while proving quite the capable singer himself on 'Ace in the Hole,' Macarus is in fine form, and even without any of the above, one would only need to hear his beautifully fluid soloing on the stunning album centerpiece 'Period of Change' ... to realize that here was a particularly innate and versatile six-string talent. " - AllMusic (Eduardo Rivadavia)• "Simply one of the greatest guitar oriented hard rock albums of all time.... Jordan Macarus can be really proud of his stunning abilities in guitar playing (and composing as well). " - Just Real Diamonds blog LP $24 SKU:19130
