New Additions & Lower Prices

Some awesome buys for you this week, new lower prices on a bunch of stuff, some cool DVDS, some more $1 items in your very favorite $5 and under section (you’ll find them mixed in, start hunting!) and a bunch of adds to the $5 and under section too. Plus some nice deals on “crunched corners”. We used to send them back to the plant for repacking, but they never bring them BACK! So I decided it’s better to give you guys a great deal. Also some new warehouse finds.

ALSO new, we’ve got a really nice board going on PINTEREST, all kinds of cool things to read and look at, here's the link: Alive Naturalsound Newsletter. They want you to sign up before you view, but it’s not too much of a pain in the ass, you just have to enter your email and a password, which it then saves, after that you can click on it with our updates without reentering a password or anything, pretty easy... Features news and fan photos, the latest press on our releases, a video of the ALIVE office, and tons more. Check it out!

In label news we’re working on the new RADIO MOSCOW double live Lp titled “LIVE IN CALIFORNIA”, out later this year, and the Bonnevilles, next up on ALIVE are already getting amazing press, that one should be out in a couple of weeks. Keep an eye on our site and PINTEREST.

Thanks for all!

NEW ARRIVALS

TERRIBLE TWOS -Radical Tadpoles SPACE ROCK - Label:X RECORDS X! Records continues it's perfect batting average with the "Radical Tadpoles" EP. Still feeling the Piranhas vibe, but a little more space rock than jazz oriented. "Chinky Glass Eye" and "An Image Break" have some downright pretty synth sounds working against it (for it) that'll speak to the Dr.Who or Wendy Carlos nerd in all of you. Like some shortwave radio transmission interfering with yer stereo. Downright operatic in a garbage can prog-punk sort of way. "Nap Time" starts off with some grossly out of tune guitar squelch and fluttery keys that gives way to some epic grand scale madness akin to say, Human Eye. Well, damn....just buy this thing. Pronto. Oh yeah...that's not a locked groove at the end either. A top five single of the year, guarantee. 45 RPM $3 SKU:17366

The event in the town of Gardner Massachusetts was called ""Down in the Dumps"" perhaps the first in what was proposed as a series of musical events to be held in the city landfill area. Luckily, very luckily, Hooker's performance was captured on a three camera shoot and broadcast on cable television in local cities and towns. DVD $5 SKU:17365

ROLLING STONES- From the Vault: Hampton Coliseum BLUE RAYLabel:EAGLE VISION NOTE: NOT SEALED Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP
From The Vault' is a new series of live concerts from The Rolling Stones archive, which are getting their first official release. 'Hampton Coliseum Live In 1981' is the first title in this series. The Rolling Stones American Tour in 1981 was the most successful tour of that year, taking a then record $50 million dollars in ticket sales. The tour was in support of the critically and commercially successful 'Tattoo You' album. There were fifty dates on the tour, which ran from Philadelphia at the end of September through to Hampton, Virginia on the 18th and 19th of December. The show on December 18th, which was also Keith Richards' birthday, was the first ever music concert to be broadcast on television as a pay-per-view event. The footage has now been carefully restored and the sound has been newly mixed by Bob Clearmountain for this first official release of the show DVD $5 SKU:17368

WHO - Live in Texas 75 -Label:EAGLE VISION NOTE: NOT SEALED Archive copy previously owned by either the owner of ALIVE or BOMP
Filmed at The Summit in Houston, Texas on November 20th 1975, this film captures a typically incendiary live performance by The Who at the start of the US leg of their tour in support of The Who By Numbers album which had been released earlier that year. The original video footage has been cleaned and the sound remixed by longtime Who collaborator Jon Astley but the show still retains a rawness that encapsulates the energy of The Who's performance. The set list stretches across the band's career from classic early singles such as My Generation and Substitute through an extensive Tommy section and up to tracks from the then newly released By Numbers. / Line-up:
Roger Daltrey (vocals, harmonica); Pete Townshend (guitar, vocals); John Entwistle (bass, vocals); Keith Moon (drums, vocals) / Track Listing:

Psychedelic fuzz goddesses The Pandoras were the first, and in many ways the most original, of L.A.'s garage revival bands. They transformed the traditional garage sound of their "Pebbles" favorites into a vehicle for an all-girl band in wild day-glo fashions, openly sexual, assertive and outrageous in a time when girl bands were expected to be more like the demure Bangles. This is their landmark Voxx debut album. LP $5 SKU:17372

WILDE KNIGHTS - Beaver Patrol - UNSEALED BUT MINT 2 copies only Label:VOXX (Voxx ) This is a slice of true Nortwest Rock history, with material from a whole series of bands which reached their peak with the frat-tastic original version of "Just Like Me" and the simply astonishing "Beaver Patrol." Roger Huycke, Rich Brown and Dean Adair Adair all originated from Seattle where they had played in The Caravans, The Fury's and The Pipers IV. They headed for L.A. when founder member Ray Kennedy was drafted. Adding Rick Dey who joined from The Vejtables, lineup 'A' recorded the above two 45s. Paul Revere apparently paid Rick Dey around $5,000 for Just Like Me in 1965 and it became The Raiders' first big hit. The Wilde Knights later reformed in the Northwest in 1967 as Genesis and were later known as King Biscuit Entertainers (1968) and American Cheese (1969). The Rough Diamonds album, compiled with the help of Kennedy and the other and members, is strongly recommended as an excellent source of the careers of The Furys, Pipers IV, Wilde Knights, King Biscuit Entertainers and American Cheese. TILES- 1966 garage never released single W PIC SLV. -Label:UGLY ThINGS In the summer of 1966 four teenage school pals from Saarbrueken, southwest Germany, got together to form their own beat group, THE TILES. Over the next four years the group played gigs throughout Saarland and Rheinland Pfalz performing material derived chiefly from British groups such as the Kinks, the Beatles, the Stones, the Small Faces and the Pretty Things. However, the Tiles also dabbled in original songwriting and at the “Beat Polls” (or Battle Of The Bands) they invariably beat out their rivals in the category for “Best Original Compositions.” At one such Beat Poll in late 1966 their prize was a recording session at the local TV/radio station, Saarlaendischer Rundfunk. The result was the two songs you hear on this single. These unpolished gems lay unreleased for over 30 years, and are presented here for the first time as examples of the raw, pure melodic sound of the fabulous Tiles. –Mike Stax & Anja 45 RPM $5 SKU:15322

On the other side, "Te fuiste" by Pamplona's Los Junior's is a spectacular mid-tempo driven by an imposing rhythm and an undulating organ of clearly lysergic reminiscences. 45 RPM $10 SKU:16675

PSYCHEDELIC ROCK MEXICAN- VA ( Stunning heavy psychedelic rock from 1971 ) Paper mini slv replica - Label:VAM RECORDS Stunning heavy psychedelic rock from 1971 by three virtually unknown Mexican groups! Four tracks from the amazing hard-driving and funky EP by Los Papos (released by Orfeon in 1971); four previously unreleased tracks by Los Free Minds, and the only two extant songs by Polvo, an amazing heavy psychedelic rock group from Nuevo Laredo. Los Free Minds was a Mexican Psychedelic Rock trio, formed in 1970 by Jorge Aguilera (guitar, vocals), Jesús Perez [El Jali] and drummer Ernesto Ontiveros. Although invited, the band could not take part in the legendary rock event the Festival de Avándaro held in September 1971; after that, rock music was banned for many years in Mexico, which killed the careers of many bands. In the same year, shortly before their disbandment, Los Free Minds recorded an LP for Orfeón, but only four tracks from it were released as an EP, leaving tracks in the can which debut here. This limited edition LP comes with an inser COMP CD $14 SKU:15124

PSYCHEDELIC UNDERGROUND- VOL 14 ( 70s psych prog ) SAALE -Label:Garden of Delights Still plenty of greatness to unearth in the Psychedelic Underground -- just the sort of tripped-out grooves we've really come to love from this well-priced series! Some of the work here is as heavy on jazzy elements as it is psychedelic ones -- making for a great blend that's a bit more organic at times than you might expect -- a world-ranging approach to the styles that really keeps things interesting, and which nicely breaks past simple cliches of psychedelia. Plus, many of the tracks are of European origin, and from the 70s -- and they've got key proggish elements as well, especially on some of the jazzier numbers. Titles include "Summer 79" by Gravestone, "Arctic Ocean" by Pancake, "Back On My Hill" by Faithful Breath, "Ala Dalona" by Emma Myldenberger, "Question" by Joy Unlimited, "Bolero" by Aqua, and "Where Is Your Home Town COMP CD $5 SKU:8718

“Power pop was one of those things that just had to be, somehow--an attempt to recapture the giddy feeling of '60s pop with the energy of punk. So how come it wasn't new wave, anyway? Simply put, to a lot of people, it was. And here, in one place, you can hear some of the early (and a few later) tracks that defined the genre. "Early" often translates as crap ideas and execution, and of the 26 tracks on this compilation, there are more than a few that fit that category--The Romantics, for example. But there are some tidy little things on this release--The Plimsouls (possibly the best power pop band ever), 20/20, and the eternal Shoes. Cheap guitars, three chords, and enough enthusiasm to run a nuclear power plant; funny how the basics of rock & roll never change--only the tunes and the tie widths. --Chris NicksonThis compilation chronicles the style that happened right after punk rock, when some of the bands learned how to play their instruments a little better and started borrowing melodies and harmonies from old '60s pop records. This marriage of melody and energy spawned a couple years' worth of exciting music and a lot of it happened on Bomp during the years 1979-1981. Every one of these 25 songs is a bona-fide classic, including bands like The Romantics, The Real Kids, The Flamin' Groovies, Shoes, 20/20, The Nerves, Pointed Sticks, The Zeros, The Last, and The Plimsouls. These are mostly tracks not otherwise available on CD, and a couple never never been released before in this country. Includes lots of photos and info. (Greg Shaw) COMP CD $10 SKU:2102

SCHNITZELBEAT,VOL. 2- VA You Are the Only One-Raw Teenage Beat And Garage Rock Anthems From Austria 1964-1970- Label:DIGATON Raw Teenage Beat And Garage Rock Anthems From Austria 1964-1970'. The artists compiled on this collection translate the air of unrestrained abandon transported by the newly emerging popular genres into their own, locally flavored idiom: Teenage Beat and Garage Rock made in Austria, 1964-1970. Presenting internationally operating epigones of Austrian underground sound of the 1960s (THE SLAVES, THE GAMBLERS) alongside recently re-discovered trailblazers of independent production (THE LOST GENERATION, THE EARLS), 'Schnitzelbeat Vol. 2' is the first compilation of its kind to pay respect to the wilder side of home-grown Austrian teenage sound of the 1960s in all its diversity. You'll find instro rock smashers, beat ballads, straight-up rhythm'n'blues pieces, jangling, folksy harmonies, savage proto-punk blowouts, and, of course, the off-the-wall appropriations of well-known international beat hits that often provided ambitious amateurs with the jump-start they needed to get their own sound up and running. GRAVEDIGGER V - All Black & Hairy LTD ED of 150 CLEAR BLUE VINYL! (60 style Classic cave garage ) -Label:VOXX The one proper album the band released in its lifetime, All Black and Hairy is both perfectly named and perfectly performed -- if it's nothing but a re - All Black & Hairy LTD ED of 150 CLEAR BLUE VINYL! (60 style Classic cave garage ) -vivalist approach at heart, it's such a damn entertaining one that there's no cause for complaint. With its title track taken from the appropriately goonball back catalog of Screamin' Lord Sutch and its general snot-mouthed attitude from every last Nuggets and Pebbles selection ever, about the only thing missing are the lava lamps and garage stink. Saying the band uses the right combination of fuzztone guitars and echo and heavy frug rhythms is a bit like saying the sky is blue -- it's just one of those things to be expected -- but the sheer energy and abandon present keep everything from simply retracing the past to no point. Leighton's credit is for "lead screaming," and that about sums it up -- he's not so much singing as pulling off the ultimate teen-wannabe-Mick Jagger performance, only even more aggressively snotty. Ted Friedman's lead guitar solos with the right rave-up spirit and John Hanrattie keeps the core melodies going, while the Tom Ward/David Anderson rhythm section aims to get rears shaking instead of sitting. The album is half split between inspired originals (check out the concluding "Stoneage Stomp") and actual songs from the time, the latter resulting in fun versions of tracks like the Uncalled For's "Do Like Me" and Larry & the Bluenotes' "Night of the Phantom." About the only thing missing is the original studio recording of the band's best number, "It's Spooky," but anyone wanting a quick blast of '60s punk thrills filtered through later years could do much worse than to dig this one up. GREEN - ST ( First time reissue of this vaunted power pop classic! Color insert, lyrics, photos -Label:LION / ROCKADROME RECORDS (USA) Limited edition of 500 copies. Color insert comes with notes, lyrics, and photos from band leader Jeff Lescher.
Green arrived on the alternative rock scene in the mid-80s, amidst a Chicago scene that included bands like Naked Raygun, Big Black, and Ministry. While Green bypassed the major label-express that other bands rode to fame and fortune, they continued to make records their own way, records which were lauded in the pages of Trouser Press, Spin, and The Village Voice, among others. And with each passing year there are those many who are convinced that their debut LP is worthy of those Mojo/VH1/Spin/ lists of the top 50 or 100 rock albums of all time. Green may be the bee’s knees for power poppers, but they deserve much more notice than that. They were an all-embracing band, with a taste for punk, glam rock and soul—and with the twitchy sort of energy that burbled around in the late-80s, pre-grunge underground (a little Feelies anyone?). It remains a mystery why so many other bands are fixed in the collective memory as the era's best; at the very least, Green should make a list of top obscure pop groups of all time! Color insert has band history and lyrics, plus many a fine photo, all courtesy of band leader Jeff Lescher LP $18 SKU:16210

GROUP 1850- PARADISE NOW high quality 180 gram audiophile pressing ( 70s Dutch psych masters! ) SAALE - Label:PSEUDONYM Recorded, edited and mixed over one long Red Lebanon hash-fueled weekend in October 1969, Group 1850s second album, Paradise Now, remains one of the high-water marks of European psychedelia. A wide-eyed, wide-open, synapse-electrifying set of songs, it sounds like the transmissions of a burnt-out satellite spinning through the galaxies of inner space. Group 1850 leader Peter Sjardin skillfully edited the groups free-flowing improvisations into eight cohesive yet distinctly different tracks, part Saucerful Of Secrets, part Electric Ladyland, part Guru Guru, part Can circa Monster Movie. Bypassing the established network of record labels, distributors and stores, the album was released on Discofoon, the label owned by the Dutch department store chain V & D, and carried exclusively in their shops nationwide. It has since become a highly sought-after collectors item. Finally this album sees its first official reissue on 180 gram audiophile vinyl, dynamically remastered from the original master tapes. Packaged in a lavish gatefold sleeve with the original cover artwork supplemented by rare photos and liner notes by Mike Stax of Ugly Things magazine. Music Style: Psychedelia, Progressive Exclusively restored dynamic 24 bit remastering from the original master tapes LP high quality 180 gram audiophile pressing Original restored artwork Deluxe 350 gram carton gatefold sleeve Rare memorabilia & photos included Liner notes Mike Stax / Ugly Things Magazine LP $24 SKU:15094

GROUP 1850- Agemo’s Trip To Mother Earth ( 60s psych masterpiece on 180 gram w 3d cover and glasses! ) Label:MISSING VINYL (Greece) First ever audiophile edition, taken from the original vinyl masters for this psychedelic masterwork, originally released on Philips in 1968. Official, deluxe 180g vinyl pressing from the original analogue masters, exact reproduction of the original 3D cover (3D glasses included). Audiophile edition pressed by Music On Vinyl Records (Netherlands)." There is little doubt that "Agemo's Trip to Mother Earth" is cut from the same cloth as Pink Floyd's "Saucerful of Secrets.” In retrospect, Group 1850's work is more imaginative—which one may expect from a Continental band without any commercial restraints. There are many pure psychedelic moments to be had - but just hearing the title track (technically titled 'I Put My Hands on Your Shoulder') should inspire awe who in people for whom this classic of psychedelia is a new discovery. The fuzz guitar, the trippy voices, the acid induced phased effects, and the drumming—there just flat out wasn't anything else like this in 1968. It's a true masterpiece of psychedelic music. GROUP DOUEH- Treeg Salaam (Visionary modern blues) SALE - Label:SUBLIME FREQUENCIES: WAREHOUSE FIND ONE COPY! Compiled from Group Doueh's personal cassette archives. Photos from Group Doueh archiveGroup Doueh's follow-up to their now-legendary debut LP is here. While most would think it damn near impossible to top the former release, in terms of sheer "shock and awe," Treeg Salaam (trans. "Streets Of Peace"), blows hot and dusty from the infernal sand-swept dunes of the Western Sahara. Compiled from Group Doueh's personal archives, these five tracks (note: sidelong piece on the flip), are as brain-shifting in their ecstatic brilliance as any music ever heard. From the wah-stroked lead-off track to the blazing dexterity of "Ragsa Jaguar," the whole of the first side is an entrance to the lip-puckering tea den of Saharan trance heaven. Salmou Baamar's (Doueh) guitar/tinidit runs explode in cosmic shrapnel, raining down on the temporal nodes of the listener's brain. On side 2, we have a 20-minute, smoky, slow-burning, psychedelic excursion into the great unknown. A meditation on the arid and inhospitable landscape that inspires this music and its people. This is a one-time pressing of 1,500 copies. Pressed on 180 gram vinyl and comes in a gatefold full-color jacket with great photos of the musicians. LP $19 SKU:9979

GRUBERGER BROTHERS- Greetings From Reading PA - ( ltd ed of 500 w. full color cover and insert with liner notes (Afrika Corps proto punk ) SAALE -Label:RERUN Mastered from the original tapes, and we even got Kenne Highland to give us his reactions to these recordings! Pressed in an edition of 500 on black vinyl, with full color cover and insert with liner notes. Jay and Solomon Gruberger were born to play music. They formed the legendary proto-punk/living room band O.Rex in 1973, when younger brother Jay was a mere 12 years old. Future Gizmos’ lead singer Kenne Highland joined the band for sporadic jam sessions in the Gruberger's Brooklyn home. Beating most punks to the punch, O.Rex managed to release a three song maxi-single on their own Oral Records in late 1976. By that time, Kenne was a member of the Gizmos as well as a full time Marine! Within a few months, Kenne and the Grubergers would meet Kim Kane of the Slickee Boys, and it was this meeting of the minds that would form the Afrika Korps. They immediately set about recording what would become their monster, 22 song debut LP. Music To Kill By was released to great critical acclaim in late 1977, but the Grubergers would soon part ways with the rest of the Korps. LP $10 SKU:15188

HACIENDA - Big Red and Barbacoa ( prod by Dan of the Black Keys ) (YELLOW VINYL ltd ed last copies ) Label:ALIVE BIG RED & BARBACOA is the second album by South Texas' HACIENDA, and like its predecessor Loud Is The Night (Alive 2008), it was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. Recorded on the tail-end of a year playing clubs and festivals across North America, Australia and Europe (opening for Dan Auerbach and Dr. Dog, and more recently for Alberta Cross), this new album brings heavier grooves and flavor to the '60s harmonies sound the band is known for. The result is a blend of Tex-Mex roots rock, retro-pop and R&B that can only be described as South Texas Soul. BIG RED & BARBACOA captures the attitude of a band ready to throw pretension to the roadside and play rock'n'roll the way it was intended. LP $16 SKU:11391

HAPPY KIDS - Play Their Own Songs - ltd to 300 copies SAALE -Label:GREY PAST Limited edtition 300 copies. It's a well-reported fact that The Happy Kids sneer at true musicianship. They are neither willing to compose, nor to play their instruments properly. Accordingly, at their live shows, they celebrate mass to plagiarizing whatever primitive ditty captures their attention. Ana Threat and Al Bird Dirt mangle their second-hand, second-rate equipment (a cheap, deranged Italian combo-organ and an off-key German Kaufhaus-guitar) accompanied by an audio cassette player that spits out pre-recorded beats at an inappropriate speed and volume. Yet, here it is: "The Happy Kids Play Their Own Songs"; twelve tunes out of which the duo claims the authorship of nine. The oeuvre perhaps wins through its repetitiveness (to put it mildly), which I presume Ms. Threat and Mr. Dirt understand is "art". Frankly, I do not know how they managed to assemble and record an entire album; let alone to persuade a prestigious record company - or even a third-rate pressing plant - to have it manufactured. Plus, I must admit, I am not exactly sure who on earth the producers expect to buy such a record. Still, I am delighted to file the album in my vast collection of contemporary "Rock music", as I am definite that there won't be any one like it to follow. Ever. For people interested in Suicide, the Seeds, The Cramps, DAF, Trio, Sonics, the Astronauts, Ramones, Throbbing Gristle. LP $18 SKU:13210

HAUNTED-Blow my Little Mind to Bits -LAST COPIES of great 60s garage-Label:VOXX LAST COPIES One of Canada's most popular homegrown rock groups in the '60s, though they made no inroads to the rest of North America. From the English-speaking community of Montreal, the group was very explicit in their desire to emulate the Rolling Stones, and most of their 1966-1968 singles (as well as their sole LP, from 1967) were in a raunchy R&B/blues-rock style. Their most successful single, "1-2-5," gained fame when it was reissued on one of the first Pebbles compilations of garage singles in the '70s. All of their material was reissued in the '80s. HAWKWIND-Leave No Star Unturned: Cambridge January, 1972 (Colored Vinyl) -Label:DIRTER PROMOTIONS (UK) Deluxe 150 gram dark blue colored vinyl (gloss laminate sleeve). Dirter Promotions presents on double vinyl a previously-unheard and unreleased live Hawkwind show from the Cambridge Corn Exchange in 1972. "Though the tapes were listened to in the weeks after the show, Lucas and Kemp upgraded their recording equipment to half-inch a few months later and the quarter-inch reels disappeared, thought perhaps to be lost forever. Fortunately, that wasn't the case. In 1985, a reel was unearthed at Spaceward Studios, noted to contain the Syd Barrett element of the show plus 'parts of the Hawkwind and Pink Fairies sets,' and in 2005 a second copy of the recordings was unearthed in a collection of tapes stored in Gary Lucas' attic. It's the Lucas tape, via an appearance on the auction lists at Bonhams in Knightsbridge, which has enabled the release of this pivotal show. Dirter Promotions is very pleased to present these recordings, cleaned-up and remastered, enabling Hawkwind's dedicated fan base to experience the band in full flow, poised to fly high and fly far, making the very concept of space-rock their own in perpetuity." --Ian Abrahams (taken from sleeve notes). HEAD -ST ( Obscure 60s style psych ) last copies - Label:VOXX Unfairly, this album has always remained obscure, even among Voxx releases. Perhaps this is due to their style, which is freeform and creative, rather than the formulaic approach audiences seem to prefer. With influences ranging from Cream to Led Zep to little-known British bands like July, Head blew a lot of minds in Los Angeles in the early '90s with their light show and extended trip-jams. For their album debut, they chose a different approach: using all the studio tricks at their command to make a finely-crafted collage of sounds designed to flow through a listener's most spaced-out headphone session. But this long album also includes most of their live freakout favorites, and there are frequent moments of sublime ensemble playing. [12/92] Greg Shaw LP $14 SKU:2295

HESTER,CAROLYN COALITION- Magazine ( 70s teen guitar w. candy acid vocals. ) SAALE Label:MISSING VINYL (Greece) “Both Carolyn Hester Coalition albums are fine examples of US west coast style hippie fuzz psychedelic folk rock, like Neighb’rhood Children, Birmingham Sunday and similar outfits. They were recorded in 1969 and 1970 on the METROMEDIA label and are considered to be a must have for US dreamy folk psych music collectors. First ever reissue on vinyl. Limited edition, deluxe 180g vinyl, exact reproduction of the original first pressing. Great US psychedelic folk rock album from 1970.” A little more info: After a handful of traditional folk albums, Carolyn Hester went on a mini trip with The Carolyn Hester Coalition—a completely different beast, which took her in a psychedelic direction. The albums are fine West Coast-style Hippie fuzz Folk Rock/Pop affairs, with Hester singing in a decidedly non-folky Acid Bubblegum style. Solid all the way through, the albums should appeal to any fan of Neighb'rhood Child'n, Birmingham Sunday, Daisy Chain and similar pop/psych trips. The opening of the debut, ‘Magic, Man,’ is well known due to its inclusion on the “Hippie Goddesses” compilation. Since then, the dubious Soundlink people, purveyors of hundreds of foul bootleg reissues under the label names of Radioactive, Fallout, Erebus, Phoenix, and Past & Present have decided that they own these recordings, which is probably the reason (ironically) why anyone has had a chance to hear them. Of course - as the fine folks at Himalaya know - obscurity is not always deserved, and this is one of the finest examples of that; shredding guitars and hyperactive drumming underscore heavy, throaty vocals inspired by Led Zeppelin and Steppenwolf. Extensive story of the Hollywood Stars lost album, in Kim Fowley's own words crammed with rare and unseen photos. Gatefold release. Limited 1000 copies worldwide. Los Angeles 1973. In the morass of indulgent singer/songwriters and post hippie platitudes, Kim Fowley had a dream: A re-invention of mid '60s energy and ethics adapted for hard rock kids in a way little girls could understand. The Hollywood Stars were born. The great white hope of Rock'n'Roll and the ultimate Teen Band infused with Powerpop hooks, killer Proto Punk riffs with a sprinkling of Glitter and the right attitude. With monster tunes by Kim Fowley, Mars Bonfire ('Born To Be Wild') along with band originals ('King Of The Night Time World' and 'Escape' were later covered by Kiss and Alice Cooper respectively), the band was bound to be the Next Big Thing. Amongst all the excitement the band were signed to a major label and the scene was set for world domination. Only it never was. Fast forward to 2013, when a tape containing a rough mix of this legendary record was found. Unexpurgated and untainted by any superfluous effects, but mastered with the right care and attention, the album is finally released for the first time, some 39 years too late, but still, better too late than never at all! HOT KNIVES - ST ( 70s rarity ) - Label:GOT KINDA LOST Hot Knives were a late period folk-rock and power-pop combo from '70s San Francisco. Among the members were ex-Flamin' Groovies guitarist Tim Lynch and drummer Danny Mihm. Led by the hair-rising boy-girl sound from the Houpt siblings (Michael and Debra), and bolstered by the ringing, jangly guitars of Lynch and Houpt as well as the driving rhythm section of Mihm and bassist Ed Wilson, sparks flew when they united as a whole. This set collects the tracks from their late '70s singles, and a further batch of dynamite tracks pressed into wax (seeing vinyl release for the first time). As music journalist Jud Cost says in the extensive liner notes: "Hot Knives were a little too late for the '60s hippie trip and a little too hippie for the crash'n'burn punk rock brushfire of the mid-'70s", but their consistent songwriting and way with a hook should appeal to all with a pop heart beating in their chest, fans of '60s SF sounds and sun flavoured (or sun burnt) folk-rock.
