NEW ALIVE PRESSING

DATURA4- Demon Blues -MARBLE PINK VINYL ltd ed of 150 -Label:ALIVE NOTE - LP does not contain download card, add the cd for a lo price!

Hailing from Fremantle in Western Australia, DATURA4 is the brainchild of Dom Mariani (frontman of legendary Australian garage rockers The Stems and Power Pop favourites DM3) and Greg Hitchcock (former You Am I and one-time New Christs’ guitarist). In 2011 they joined forces combining a shared passion for full-tilt boogie, psychedelic rock and progressive blues.

Along with drummer Warren Hall who previously played with The Drones and bass player Stu Loasby DATURA4 have been steadily building a reputation in their hometown with their live performances. With a healthy nod to Early ’70’s Australian Psych/Blues/Boogie from the likes of Buffalo, Coloured Balls, The Aztecs and latter era Masters Apprentices, “Demon Blues” represents Mariani & Hitchcock’s love of hard hitting bell-bottom blues. Fans of Radio Moscow will love this album!

As psyched-out, louder-than-Sabbath blues goes, this record is out there on its own. – The BLUES Magazine 8/10 review

“Demon Blues” is ‘very 70s rock. There’s also a deftness and pop sensibility in the undertow. It’s a happy marriage of the hard-edged and the hooky. – I-94 BAR 4.5/5 review

Their sound is very much vintage, but for some modern references I can thrown in Swedish acts such as The Nomads and the ace Sewergrooves. If those names mean sh*t to ya, then "Demon Blues" is pretty much satisfaction guaranteed. – VIVE LE ROCK 9/10 review

The LP and the CD have different versions of the cover designed by Joshua Marc Levy/Asheville Art Family (Black Crowes, Grateful Dead, Buffalo Killers).

IMPORT PRESSINGS OF ORIGINAL DANGERHOUSE SINGLES!

ALLEY CATS-Nothing Means Nothing Anymore/Gimme A Little Pain-Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) The Alleycats were from Lomita in South Bay. Michigan emigre Randy Stodola was the songwriter/guitarist and driving force, with a penchant for surreal narrative in his lyrics. His wife, Dianne Chai, on bass, and John McCarthy on drums made for one of the tightest outfits around. Musically they probably most resembled meat 'n' potatoes more than any other Dangerhouse punk act." --David Brown 45 RPM $12 SKU:17603

BAGS, THE - Survive-Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) Suffice it to say that no one who ever saw Alice Bag in action will forget it in this lifetime. With Pat Bag on bass, and the duelin' guitars of the late Rob Ritter and Craig Bag, the Bags generated conflict in their stage shows, and understood the art of arranging like thrash bands never did. . . . I think that's absolutely the best thing we ever put out, I still get shivers down my brainstem when listening to 45 RPM $12 SKU:17607

BLACK RANDY & METROSQUAD-I Slept In An Arcade/Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose-Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) What is the name of the guy who produced the Mamas and the Papas? Lou Adler. He had us flown up to Vancouver and pretend to be punk rock musicians and lipsync to 'I Slept In An Arcade' in this movie he was making about punk rock. Randy actually got this very nifty role where he became the bad guy in the movie, which was totally appropriate because he wanted to be the bad guy." --David Brown 45 RPM $12 SKU:17609

BLACK RANDY & METROSQUAD- Trouble At The Cup--Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) 'Trouble At The Cup' was recorded at what used to be a motel but got turned into sort a recording studio. . . . I don't think anyone could really later believe what came out of those sessions, and while the army of teenage hustlers never materialized to fight the LAPD, 'Trouble At The Cup' still makes for a spunky number." --David Brown 45 RPM $12 SKU:17611

BLACK RANDY & THE ELITE METRO SQUAD-Idi Amin-Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) "I can say anything I want to about Black Randy because he's dead. He was a tragic mixture of genius and self-abuse, writing lyrics in PCP/alcohol/diabetic stupors which mirrored the despair of the human condition in a way that deserved immortality. The Metrosquad, which I had the pleasure to direct musically, revelled in grotesque parody mixed with sophisticated musical texture." --David Brown 45 RPM $12 SKU:17605

DEADBEATS, THE-Kill The Hippies-Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) The musicianship of the young men who comprised the Deadbeats was a joy to behold. Scott Guerin and his brother Shaun played as extensions of the same self, and the band also served to unleash Geza X and Pat Delaney on the world. Their stage act musically and visually confounded every cliche and preconception about what 'punk rock' meant. Their unique, driving sound consisted of treated sax and fuzz guitar layered over flawlessly executed intricate rhythm patterns." --David Brown
45 RPM $12 SKU:17606

EYES, THE -TAQN Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) "About this time, maybe late 1978, I joined this band called the Eyes. Charlotte Caffey had been playing bass and I think keyboards and stuff. She left to go form the Go-Go's. As a matter of fact, Belinda Carlisle and Jane Wiedlin got their first actual stage experience as members of Randy's Blackettes . . . I know this, I remember this, I have photos to prove it. . . . Joe Ramirez, the leader of the Eyes, was a cerebral master of the unexpected lyric in front of the musical conventions of punk rock. His musical concept fit into the Wire keep-'em-coming-too-fast-to-know groove, and the lyrics he wrote with John Richey were way over most people's heads." --David Brown 45 RPM $12 SKU:17608

RANDOMS -ABCD/Let's Get Rid Of New York-Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) Individual replica reissues of the 14 7"s released on Dangerhouse between 1977 and 1979, including classic tracks by The Weirdos, Avengers, The Alley Cats, X, Black Randy, The Dils, The Bags. . . . Dangerhouse was one of the first independent labels to document the burgeoning West Coast punk rock scene of the late '70s. Although short-lived, its work provided a vital outlet for the bands and other participants and set a template for many to follow. All singles have facsimile sleeves and labels and come inside a clear plastic outer sleeve like the original releases. "Once upon a time (197?) in a magical kingdom called LA, there was a defect in the space/time continuum known as 'punk rock'. Only in such a depraved environment could Dangerhouse have existed. Dangerhouse, created by the triumvirate of yours truly, Pat "Rand" Garrett, and Black Randy, was a highly naive attempt to create a politically and artistically correct playground for the unique, nihilistic talents of the LA punk 'scene'. It was clear something needed to be done. In the beginning there was a lot of musical talent that was going to unrecorded waste. Whereas the English musicians had been set upon by some of the top producers in the business, the very lack of commercialism implicit in LA punk seemed to drive away potential resources. Those were culturally weird times, Saturday Night Fever and burned-out super group remnants filled the airwaves. Clearly SOMETHING was better than nothing. The early groups (like the Screamers, Germs, Weirdos, Black Randy) were very good at manipulating the local venue owners and press, and were able to almost immediately fill clubs and halls with folks who were just plain bored and curious. The Masque, KROQ, Farrah Fawcett-Minor's apartment behind the dirty bookstore, the Starwood, Whisky . . . I refer the reader to the insane, speedenhanced ravings of Claude Bessy in the early Slash magazine as there just isn't enough room for that kind of background. Suffice it to say that the scene had everything: every kind of self-abuse imaginable, negative social patterns, infighting, gender-fucking, etc. What needs to be talked about here are the musicians and other creative forces at work behind the scenes on the Dangerhouse product. Starting out, the studio was anywhere we could plug in; later, our home was the Kitchen Synch with the extremely copasetic Mike Hamilton as engineer. Here was a man who watched us accidentally pour a dark Heineken over a 16-track mixing console (installed that very day) without crying or punching out the culprit. Over the years, Mike patiently sat while irate punks insulted his intelligence, and offered great 8- and 16-track advice to Pat and me, refugees from a 4-track world. To Dangerhouse, and the fans, the sound quality was paramount. (Even KROQ demigod Rodney Bingenheimer stated in a period interview that Dangerhouse put out real records on real plastic!) The do-it-yourself aspect of the production and packaging spoke for itself. We created ideas for affordable products which set the pace for imitators, like the clear plastic-bag 45 sleeves (because traditional sleeves cost more than the records to be pressed) and the multi-color silkscreened picture disc used for 'YES LA'. Sad to say, the downturn of the record business in 1979 due to the soidistant 'oil embargo' hurt everyone in the record industry and made it too rough a row to hoe for Dangerhouse. Tough titty. These recordings still sound as powerful and relevant as the day they were cut. If you, Mr or Ms Consumer, care about creativity as opposed to the number of units shipped, it was a victory. And if there was ever a label that released cool shit, over which I'd rather have been A&R man/Prexy, it sure as hell doesn't come to mind." --David Brown 45 RPM $12 SKU:17601

RHINO 39- Xerox ( 70s punk) -Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) Then we put out a single by Rhino 39, named for a famous virus on the Lysol can. They were a group of high school kids from Long Beach who passed as a powerful and clever punk band. . . . Just really great kids -- demented and fun-loving in a way I admired. Their manic speed of delivery bordered on speed metal, but these kids had taste and talent to burn, and there was never the slightest tinge of hatred in their message." --David Brown 45 RPM $12 SKU:17612

WEIRDOS -We Got The Neutron Bomb/ Solitary Confinement-Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) "Without a doubt, the Weirdos were the most creative and visually overwhelming band on the scene. Perhaps closest to the sounds of mainline English punk, they created the most convincing wall of distortion/sound of any LA band of the period." --David Brown 45 RPM $12 SKU:17602

X-Adult Books/ We're Desperate-Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) "X provided that rare mix of songwriting, personal charisma and musical expertise. More than any other band, their personalities were evident in their music, and were never even slightly conventional or dull. We'd been good friends with X for some time. I'd actually been in an early incarnation of X. We used to play at their house. I played an electric piano that I think Billy Zoom provided. It was just something that was lying around. That didn't last for very long." --David Brown 45 RPM $12 SKU:17604

RAMONES - EATEN ALIVE w. background notes and rare photos- Label:SMOKIN' (GERMANY) But 1976 and 1977, the years of punk in the US and UK, was the group's finest era. And it was towards the end of this era that the show represented on this CD was performed. A live broadcast on FM radio, this recording features perfect sound quality and includes live versions of cuts from the groups first 4 records, all released between 1976 & 1978 - along with a couple of choice covers, with which all fine Ramones gigs were graced." CD $17 SKU:17597

GENERATIONdone a few tours of the United Kingdom, a couple of dates in Paris and a week in Japan. So the amount of people who actually saw Generation X live is pretty limited. Live At Sheffield gives you a chance to enjoy the sound of a Generation X gig (along with fake audience) and feel the power of what we did live. The songs are from the first two albums plus a strange medley of '100 Punks' and 'Kleenex' and the cover of 'Shakin' All Over'. Although the band only lasted three years, the music stands the test of time, and with Billy Idol's later success as a solo artist in America this recording has somewhat of an historical aspect. Billy continues to play quite a few of these songs live to this day and it may be interesting to compare, although comparisons are deadly. .. At the time of this show Generation X had been on Top Of The Pops numerous times, but this was punk and nobody thought about anything but the moment. Playing live every night in a different town has a certain momentum, and like a great photograph, to capture a moment in time of rock'n'roll is just as visual. Play this loud, as Mark Twain once said about Wagner's music, 'It's better than it sounds'." --Bob "Derwood" Andrews LP $24 SKU:17599

GENERATION X-Sweet Revenge- (1979 recordings ) Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) The third LP by Generation X's original line-up, recorded in 1979 and unreleased until 1998. An essential piece in the discography of one of the original UK punk bands. 180-gram LP. "In early 1979 Generation X went to the English countryside to write and 'routine' the band's third album. We felt we had a new sound, simple songs delivered with more space than most rock'n'roll, so we went into Olympic Studios in Barnes, London and began recording with the house engineer, Doug Bennett, as co-producer. Most of the songs were recorded before our tour of Japan in June '79. On our return Billy came into the studio with an outline of a song called 'Dancing With Myself'. We went to work on it and pretty much finished it quickly and we felt it was the song to lead the album, a single I guess. . . . Then I left the band at the end of the year and carried the fuckin' stack of 1/4'' master tapes around the world for many years. A year or so later they changed the band name to Gen X and re-recorded four or five songs for the album Kiss Me Deadly. Billy later released the re-recorded version of 'Dancing With Myself' for his solo career in America and the rest is history. . . . After years in storage my tapes were nearing the end of their life, so I digitized them in order to save this lost treasure. I named the album KMD Sweet Revenge. Some time later the album was released in Germany, Japan, Spain and supposedly the USA, however the release in America was quashed until Capitol Records put out their own version within a 3-CD anthology of the band, using some different mixes of the songs from cassette tapes. The recordings are almost complete minus a few guitar solos and final mixes. Time on Generation X had run out, but this album clearly shows the direction the band were heading and is worth documenting and certainly worth playing. For your pleasure . . . Sweet Revenge." --Bob "Derwood" Andrews LP $24 SKU:17600

OCTOPUS- Restless Night ( 70s guitar psych ) - Label:RADIATION DELUXE SERIES (SPAIN) - Reissue of the sole LP by Octopus, a prime piece of UK psychedelia originally released on the Penny Farthing label in 1971. Produced by Tony Murray of The Troggs, Restless Night bridges the gap between '60s psychedelia and a harder-edged '70s sound with hooks galore, swirling organ, and fuzz-tone guitars. 180-gram LP.Limited edition of 500. ZOOM -Sweet Desperation ( 76 pre punk Bowie/ Velvets WITH B GIRLS! )-Label:UGLY POP (CANADA) "Bored of cover bands and Toronto's stagnant bar scene, Chris Haight and John Hamilton formed Zoom in 1976, inspired by such pre-punk touchstones as the Velvet Underground, Roxy Music, Bowie and Sparks. The band quickly set to gigging locally, but were soon caught up in the punk scene that exploded to life around them. An obscure but seminal 1977 45 -- arguably Toronto's first punk record-- was their sole release before the band dissolved as Haight joined the Viletones and Hamilton began drumming for the Diodes. Despite their duties in two of Canada's leading punk bands, however, the pair didn't want great songs like 'Schoolgirl Hitch Hiker', 'My Baby's Got No Brains' and 'They Only Come Out At Night' to go undocumented, so they entered the studio in 1978 to get this stuff on tape. Produced by Bob Segarini and BB Gabor, and with musical contributions from members of The Ugly, The B-Girls and The Curse, the session captured a pretty special time in Toronto music history. It seems especially poignant that it would then remain unheard for decades. In 2014, Hamilton, who had gone on to an illustrious career of his own but had never entirely forgotten Zoom, located the tapes and had them professionally baked and restored. A trove of photographs, flyers and graphics was similarly uncovered, and now Ugly Pop is very pleased to announce a 13-track LP." LP $24 SKU:17598

- Includes color insert with lots of previously unseen photos and liner notes by Paul Eakin telling the band's story for the first time.
- "A three-piece progressive hardrock band that play so well together that it allow them to maneuver through long passages with fresh imagination and not become a stereotypical mid-seventies trio. Guitar wizard delivers unceasing solos with a rhythm section poised in the background acting as a two-man metronome. Only a few copies of this album are known to exist." --Scott "Loopden" Bubrig, The Acid Archives
Private hard rock ultra-rarity from Texas exhumed for the first time. With only 200 copies released in 1975, the Stud album has become a holy grail for collectors. A mystery for many years (all the band members used pseudonyms on the album credits), the band seemed impossible to track down... until now. Formed in 1974 in Houston, Stud featured the killer lead guitar of 17-year-old genius Tim Williams, the brutal Rickenbacker bass attacks of Paul Eakin, and the solid-as-a-rock drumming of George Lasher. The chemistry was born when they first starting played together, and after many rehearsals they decided they were ready to record their first album. So they entered the Barons Studios in Rosenberg, and Stud was the result. Powerful hard rock ("A Woman Like You" and "Jim/Blues"), killer boogie-rock ("Captain Boogie"), hard psychedelic jams (the 13 minutes of "Stud"), and progressive hard rock on the impressive "The War Song." File next to Morly Grey and Incredible Hog. Remastered sound. Color insert with lots of previously unseen photos and liner notes by Paul Eakin telling the band's story for the first time. BEST ARIZONA GARAGE BANDS 19670 1970- VA- w 20 page booklet-Label:HDM RECORDS In addition to music that captures a moment in time, the release features a 20 page booklet filled with the story of each of the groups included here along with period photography, show flyers and more. The Arizona music scene during the sixties can easily be likened to its desert surroundings: The monotony of average and sometimes even good bands writing less than good and even average songs. Then one day you hear a band that knocks you out. Those are the kinds of bands that I had the opportunity to discover and produce that suddenly emerged out of garages and other little holes in walls ? wherever they could find a place to converge and create their music. I now have the honor and the privilege to present to you the bands that I think are Arizona's best garage bands from 1967 to 1970.' -- Hadley Murrell. "At an age when most of us were just listening to music, Hadley Murrell got involved. At 14 he started playing drums with The Carnations, and went on to work in radio, as well promoting shows and other live events. Much of what he made went towards studio time to produce the music heard in this collection. Often garage rock is under produced to its detriment. That's not the case here, Murrell recorded at Phoenix's Audio Records, other clients included Dwayne Eddy, Dyke & The Blazers and Waylon Jennings (among many others). And unlike many garage rock sides ? Hadley took his performers into the studio prepared and ready to lay down tracks as hot as the Arizona desert. In addition to music that captures a moment in time, the release features a 20 page booklet filled with the story of each of the groups included here along with period photography, show flyers and more." EVERYWHERE - VA ( earliest and rarest '60s US garage psych compilations )-Label:FEED THE MIND Everywhere Interferences is the 1983 follow-up to Everywhere Chainsaw Sound and is rumored to have originated in France. Originally issued as a limited numbered edition of 190 copies, it is one of the earliest and rarest '60s US garage psych compilations produced at the dawn of the compilation LP explosion. This reissue features improved artwork along with the correct running order as well as additional liner notes and photos, filling an important gap in garage psych comp collections across the planet. "In a field full of weeds the earliest garage psych/punk compilations still possess a charm that endears them to collectors. Back in the early 1980s a number of now extremely rare compilations were briefly available via mail order. They almost immediately disappeared onto the shelves of a small but hardcore group of US '60s rock fans. Everywhere Interferences was the second volume of an extremely limited pair of compilations (the first being Everywhere Chainsaw Sound). Both originated in France and were produced microscopic numbered editions of only 100 or so copies. Housed in a plain white card sleeve with primitive artwork these compilations, to this day, remain almost unknown to the majority of '60s US garage psych collectors. Inspired by Elektra's Nuggets LP, 'grey area' compilations such as Pebbles, Boulders, and Acid Dreams (PAPR 1007LP/2094CD/2096CD/2097CD) created a demand for underground compilations that grew into the US garage rock reissue market that has since produced many thousands of records. An unceasing demand for music from probably the most exciting period of rock and roll has turned into a minor industry. Thankfully Everywhere Interferences is once again available with improved sleeve notes and sound. You may have some of these recordings on other compilations but somehow the mystery excitement and sense of discovery that fuelled the first era of the garage rock revival is captured on these iconic records" --Richard Allen, writes for Shindig!, founder of The Freak Emporium in 1991 (now under new management). Includes tracks by Clefs of Lavender Hill, White Lightning, Pied Pipers, The Baskerville Hounds, The Todds, Moonrakers, The Satisfactions, The Cavemen, and The Nomads. - Reissue of the massively rare pioneering '60s US garage punk compilation Everywhere Interferences, originally released in France in 1983 as the follow-up to Everywhere Chainsaw Sound (FTM 001CD/LP).

BARE SOLE - Flash ( 1969 for fans of Blue Cheer, Iron Claw, Stack Waddy)-Label:SOMMOR RECORDS (Spain LP version. Previously unreleased UK demo album from 1969. The loudest band from Hull in the '60s, Bare Sole played raw, in-your-face psychedelic hard rock and heavy blues. Bare Sole's brief existence at the tail-end of the 1960s reflected the realistic trappings of their geographical situation. Musical icons such as Mick Ronson and Robert Palmer would eventually rise to fame outside of their native Hull, but Bare Sole sadly only managed a handful of out-of-town gigs and a tour of US air bases in Germany. As it was, their entire existence lasted just over a year, but at least their inspired musical legacy has survived thanks to a 1969 recording session held at Fairview Studios. Assisted by writer and producer Keith Herd and galvanized by an enthusiastic local poultry farmer, Bare Sole captured their primitive garage mannerisms in one fiery recording session. Aside from Decca's rejection of their demo tape, Bare Sole continued playing alongside acts such as Family, Status Quo, The Move, and Small Faces, but the inevitable decision to quit came in 1970 and their story came to an end. Flash represents Bare Sole's entire recorded history, taken from the master tapes of their 1969 recording session. Their seductive garage romp boasts explosive doses of fuzz, wah-wah, and Farfisa organ, a sound that recalls an earlier and more primitive sound, but a sound that also may have unwittingly sealed their fate. Master tape sound. Detailed liner notes. Recommended for fans of Blue Cheer, Iron Claw, Stack Waddy LP $28 SKU:17120

CHILDREN - Rebirth- 60s Texas Psych -Label:OUT-SIDER (Spain) Includes insert with detailed liner notes and photos. The Children were a great psychedelic band from San Antonio, TX, who released only one classic album on Cinema in 1968 (picked up by Atco later that year). Starting out as The Stoics in 1966, they later evolved into The Mind's Eye, then their final incarnation as The Children with the beautiful female vocals of Cassell Webb. Ex-Monkee Davy Jones took them under his wing in 1967, promoting them on the LA Sunset Strip club scene. Rebirth combines soft psych and baroque pop with fuzzed-out psychedelia. Produced by Lelan Rogers (13th Floor Elevators, The Golden Dawn, etc.). Original gatefold artwork faithful to the beautiful original release on Cinema. Newly remastered sound. LP $28 SKU:17404

NEW YORK DOLLS -Live At Radio Luxembourg, Paris 1973-Label:LILITH (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) 2014 release. Before punk rock had a name, its name was the New York Dolls. Recorded for a radio broadcast in Paris in December 1973, this is arguably THE best existing live recording of the Dolls in their prime, complete with stage banter, appalling attempts at fake French accents and a whole lot of drug fuelled attitude. It's almost as if you were there, and for those of us who weren't, this is definitely the next best thing. In addition to thrashing through their "hits," the Dolls revealed their roots in covers of Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters, and New York's original bad girls, the Shangri-Las.

A treasure trove of previously unreleased West Coast guitar psychedelia, 1966-1975. "Uther Pendragon was more than just a band, it was a family. Closer than brothers, they lived together, made music together, worked, played, laughed, cried and dreamed together." --Mike Stax (Ugly Things) - "Really cutting edge music from where teen garage became early raw psych. You can hear the early SF anarchy in the music, much like Oxford Circle. Impressive!" --Patrick Lundbor LP $59 SKU:17267
