NEW AND RESTOCKS!

Just in on Alive, a repressing of the ultimate punk record, GG Allin, on classic black vinyl and a blue ltd edition, with a new cover.

You collectors might be entertained to know that GG was very nearly on Bomp! Greg Shaw and Kim Fowley went to see him here in Los Angeles and Greg wanted to sign him but told Patrick of Alive Records (part of the Bomp family) that he was scared of GG and sent Patrick to do the deal for Alive. Turns out GG was a sweetheart and not at all scary (appearances can REALLY be deceiving!) and GG was signed to Alive.

Also just in, another shipment from GEAR FAB, check out their catalogue here!

Have fun kiddies!

CRYSTAL SYPHON- FAMILY EVIL/ ELEPHANT BALL (SF 60s)Label:GEAR FAB Comes in an old-style “tip-on” jacket with a digital download. Plying their trade in the fertile San Francisco scene of the late '60s, Crystal Syphon's name was only known to aficionados through viewing copies of old SF gig posters and through the index of bands at the back of Ralph Gleason's book on the rise of Jefferson Airplane. Then both their studio and live 1967-1969 archival recordings were discovered that replaced the imagination with true grooves in 2012 and 2015 with the release of 2 LPs on Roaratorio Records. Trying to find comparison with other Bay area bands from that era has proven a bit fruitless as they don't specifically evoke any of the heavy hitters of the era. They have a bit of a dreamy, stoned vibe with some great harmonies and some have compared their style to Quicksilver Messenger Service (John Cipollina was their idol!!) as well as H.P. Lovecraft. As with so many bands of the era, the draft, time and declining fortunes signaled the end of the band. There is some great guitar work alongside the Farfisa organ in the extended jams, and fans of the west-coast sound should delight in these recordings. CD $14 SKU:23863

FEVERS-Love Always Wins (70s powerpop NErves style ! ) Label:ALIEN SNATCh As powerpop as Teenage Head, Nerves and Knack (without ties & laughing all the way to the bank) while taking their cues from the "odd" bubblegum craze boy groups of the 60's and injecting stunning "nice guy" 60's harmonies. No need for gimmicks here, they just love to rock. They love it loud but they dont wanna be "LOUD" like most of the others out there. The combination of Gavin's undeniably distinguished raspy voice, backed by that foot-tapping juice-driving heart-soaring lead guitar with Who-ish rough punchiness creates a sound that is simple but surprising, intense but subtle and shining, shining bright. Half of Fox's tapes were made at the infamous Glenn Holly Studio, owned and operated by Phil Polemini, where may famous musicians would hide away to record, late into the morning hours. This is the very studio where Phil's friend and legendary guitarist Tommy Bolin jammed endlessly from 1972 through 1976. CD $10 SKU:19649

FRANK,BOB -ST (1972 stoner rock)Label:LITA Originally released in 1972 on Vanguard Records, Bob Frank’s self titled debut album took elements of Dylan, Johnny Cash, and Ian Tyson and filtered it through a pot-smoked haze infused with Frank’s long-time friend, Memphis guru Jim Dickinson. Dickinson and Frank shared a mutual admiration that ran so deep that on Dickinson’s own 1972 debut album Dixie Fried (released on Atlantic Records) he recorded one of Bob’s songs, ‘Wild Bill Jones.’ Despite the Dickinson/Memphis connection, Bob Frank’s only LP for Vanguard has remained a forgotten, hard to find vinyl relic.
Carefully re-mastered from the original tapes, historical maverick (and noted expert on the Memphis scene) Alec Palao recently interviewed Frank in detail and assembled a lengthy essay for the CD and LP liner notes that detail Frank’s personal and musical journey. As Dickinson once deadpanned, “Bob went to Vietnam and Nashville. I don’t know which was worse.” It was also an itinerant period, when Frank spent many a stoned evening staggering alone through the mid-south urban gothic landscape of church steps and sleaze bars, with his guitar glued to his arm, if not an actual extension of it. Songs would emerge from dreams or drunken visions. But this was not artless acid folk, but a series of picaresque, well-sketched vignettes delivered in a clearly-enunciated vernacular, and all very much in Frank’s own style. CD $10 SKU:24165

FREAK SCENE - Psychedelic Psoul ( 60s raga rock ) SALE- Label:LION Fresh from his studio experiences with The Deep and the Third Bardo, Rusty Evans decided to create a psychedelic “happening” which would also function as a recording group. He gathered together a few New York musicians, including three members of the Deep (David Bromberg among them), dubbed them the Freak Scene, and began work on the “Psychedelic Psoul” album, which was released in 1967. The intention was to pursue the Indian-Eastern influence in rock—and this raga rock idea is used to great effect on songs like ‘Grok’ and ‘Rose of Smiling Faces’ (sounds like it could have been the sole inspiration for Damon’s “Song of a Gypsy” album). As the only true psychedelic band on Columbia at the time, the Freak Scene got decent exposure. No doubt this number would have been much greater had the band been a touring ensemble, instead of a one-time psychedelic event. The album is gritty, tense, subversive, brittle, and yes, psychedelic. Perfect in its own way. Included as bonus tracks are nine demos from the summer of 1966, some of which would end up in quite a different musical context on The Deep “Psychedelic Moods” and Freak Scene albums. These songs, with their P. F. Sloan/Dylan (or even Sixto Rodriguez) vibe deepen the legacy of edgy, insightful songs from Rusty Evans/Marcus Uzilevsky. Comes with a 16-page booklet which includes a biographical portrait of Marcus, printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. CD $10 SKU:11550

FREDDY AND THE FOREGONE CONCLUSIONS - WIGGED OUT SOUNDS (Detroit garage punk Question Mark style) Label:GET HIP ARCHIVE In the hallowed halls of Detroit's garage punk legacy, only one man remains committed to the original doctrine layed out by bands like Question Mark and the Mysterians and the Unrelated Segments. That man is Freddy Fortune. Blasting off with Detroit-area chord mashers the Covingtons in 1988, the mid '90s found Fortune in an auspicious pairing with friend and collaborator Michael Maltese. Now Fortune returns, once again bearing the torch for of Detroit garage with a new sound and a new ensemble. OUR BRILLIANT CAREERS -Cherry Red Rarities 1981-83-Label:CHERRY RED Cherry Red carved out an odd niche for itself apart from the general post-punk flow, thanks largely to eccentric A&R man Mike Always, whose tastes leaned towards melody, Englishness, and the 1960’s. Cherry red became a home for the dashing, debonair whimsy of he Monochrome Set, the mopy bedsit introspection of Eyeless in Gaza, jazzy-folky singer-songwriters Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt (separately and together as Everything But the Girl), and the Television/Velvets descended, plangent splendor of Felt. Although “Pillows and Prayers” is the best-known sampler of the label, its precursor “Perspectives and Distortions” (1981) includes many non-Cherry Red artists, which makes it very interesting; and “Our Brilliant Careers” (2003) scoops up archival arcane. It includes rare tracks by successful Cherry Red artists like Everything But The Girl (plus solo material from both Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt), The Nightingales and The Monochrome Set, plus many more. Most people probably know Five Or Six from their off-key but charming opener 'Portrait' from “Pillows and Prayers”; here we have six like low-key and absorbing tracks from them, most of which have never been on CD: 'Think' and 'Theme' are instrumentals that will surprise a few. There are also three early songs by Ben Watt described modestly by himself as 'dreary and tuneless'. Beautiful instrumental version of 'The Thousand Guitars of St. Dominiques' by the Fantastic Something ends up as the most surprising track—a high point of the collection.” Impressive and intriguing archive collection of rare recordings. PEBBLES. THE SERIES THAT INSPIRED THE ENTIRE GARAGE ROCK REVIVAL! In his review of the Pebbles series for Allmusic, Richie Unterberger comments: "Though 1972's Nuggets compilation reawakened listeners to the sounds of mid-'60s garage rock, it only focused on the tip of the iceberg. Behind those forgotten hits and semi-hits lurked hundreds, if not thousands, of regional hits and flops from the same era, most even rawer and cruder. . . . More than any other factor, these compilations [in the Pebbles series] were responsible for the resurgence of interest in garage rock, which remains high among collectors to this day."

REDUCERS-Let’s Go (70s w catchy melodies and killer licks) Label:RAVE ON 29 TRACK MUST-HAVE COMP! REDUX compiles the best of The Reducers first 3 LPs in one astounding package.

Formed in late 1978, Connecticut's Reducers wowed thousands of fans with blazing tempos, catchy melodies and killer licks.

"The Reducers deftly execute that timeless musical somersault: they release rage and frustration via barbed guitar lines, growling vocals and pointed wit." - Boston Globe

REDUCERS-Cruise to Nowhere (70s w catchy melodies and killer licks) Label:RAVE ON 1985 followup to Let’s Go. Inner sleeve features unique art and full lyrics100% analog mastering and pressing. "There were absolutely no gimmicks, false pretenses towards stardom, or slick attitude; they were the real deal." - AllMusic, Cruise To Nowhere was the result of two weeks in the studio with a handful of songs, some finished, most unfinished and some unwritten. The resulting LP was surprisingly consistent given the haphazard nature of the recording, and college radio once again picked up on the album's standout track "Fistfight at the Beach." Another regional tour followed, and the wear and tear of the road soon shown its strain on the boys from New London. It would be another 3 years until The Reducer's next release. LP $14 SKU:24472

REDUCERS-Guitar Bass, Drums (70s w catchy melodies and killer licks) Label:RAVE ON Triumphant final LP featuring the anthemic "Don't Ya Wanna Rock" and "My Problem" with guest vocals from Mark Mulcahy (Miracle Legion, Polaris). These 11 tunes sizzle, with revved-up guitars cruising along over taut bass and spot-on drums drawn from the garage- and pub-rock traditions. The guitar riffs are tight and loud, and the melodies take unerring aim at that part of your brain that feeds them onto an endless loop for your continued (and continual) listening pleasure. ROLAND, PAUL-Bates Motel (70s proto steam punk cult rocker)LTD ED 180 gram Label:69 WATT-WATT2 Cult English baroque rocker Paul Roland (who was once described as 'the male Kate Bush' by label mate Robyn Hitchcock) has left the mock gothic grandeur of his past albums such as 'Danse Macabre', the Edwardian proto-steampunk offerings of 'A Cabinet of Curiosities' and the dark woods of folk-themed 'Grimm' to plug his electric guitar in and thrash to death such titles as 'I Was A Teenage Zombie', 'Tortured By The Daughter of Fu Manchu', 'How I Escaped From Devil's Island' and the title track ‘Bates Motel’. Someone has evidently been listening to The Cramps and Johnny Cash! For those who might find the pace rather bracing, there are also a couple of spaced-out psych tracks (including a paean to the dark Indian goddess Kali) and a creepy tale or two with a suitably atmospheric setting - one inspired by a ghost story written by England's master of the macabre M.R. James ('The Wailing Well'). The lighter side of Roland's macabre humour is embodied in a couple of classic Sixties psych-punk tracks with a twist (‘Tortured By The Daughter of Fu Manchu’ and 'Crazy'), plus a sly pastiche of self-righteous evangelical preachers on the gospel tinged 'Promised Land' and a typical Roland offbeat Arabian adventure ‘Khatmandu’. •New remixed sound + alternative cover artwork to the Sireena 2013 CD edition. •Limited to 200 black vinyl copies. Factory sealed album. 180gr vinyl as usual.

SAGE AND SEER -ST (1969 U.S. popsike gem)Label:WAH WAH Although this amazing U.S. popsike gem seems to have remained under the radar since it was first released in 1969, copies of an original pressing of this LP fetch several hundreds of dollars among the small circle of collectors that have managed to discover the amazing works of Don Beckmann and David Rea.Their only LP was originally released on their hometown Denver’s Stylist Records label back in 1969. The production is amazing: to the strength of the duo’s compositions and their guitar and vocal talents, a complete band is added, plus impressive orchestrated arrangements with scores provided by Dan Goodman and Mark Schuster and conducted by Ben Kaufman, the result being a deliciously beautiful album that could be a missing link between the works of Simon & Garfunkel and those of soft pop maestros like The Free Design or Harper's Bizarre or baroque pop legends The Left Banke. First ever vinyl reissue. Original artwork, including the original lyrics insert. 4 page full colour booklet with notes by David Rea himself and cool photos. Featuring 2 bonus tracks from their first single from 1968. LP $32 SKU:24398

SCAMPOLO- UNDER THE RAINBOW (1968 Hungarian rock/soul) Label:MOIRAS Limited edition of 330 copies, housed in a nice gatefold sleeve! It's a twist of fate that it took the first rock'n'roll band that reached star status in Hungary 48 years to release their first album. At the beginning of the 1960s the band was the most popular among the few Hungarian rock'n'roll groups, their shows' atmosphere was often quite heated. The band existed until the early '80s except for some short pauses and with a few changes in the lineup. The first Scampolo album represents the period between 1968 and 1970 when they left their rock'n'roll roots behind and played a repertoire that was unique in Hungary. It consisted partly of British and American progressive rock and soul hits, partly of their own compositions. These were collected from studio, rehearsal and concert recordings. LP $22 SKU:24235

SILOAH -ST (STONER TRIPPY psych-Kraut 1970 )Label:GARDEN OF DELIGHTS This is drug influenced psych-Kraut of the highest level. Private press debut from 1970 from mostly acoustic trippy hippie ethnic LSD-dropping folks from a Munich commune; some Hapshash & the Coloured Coat, Amon Duul I, and Incredible String Band action, which puts them in excellent company, although the music of Siloah is more coherent; tracks like ‘Yellow Puppets Hanging in the Sky’, and ‘Krishna’s Golden Dope Shop’ (featuring Ali on guitar) certainly stake their claim to your attention if you like ethno folk psychedelic head trips. Includes a generous 16-page LP-sized booklet. LP $28 SKU:19427

SMOGTOWN - Domesticviolenceland (West Coast catchy SKATEPUNK CLASSIC) COLOR VINYL-Label:DISASTER Records Domesticviolenceland continues Smogtown’s tradition of catchy hooks and a unique songwriting perspective. “Dance Asshole” and “Neutron Blonde” are some of the tracks that stand out. Continuing their bizarre obsession with fascism is the amusing “Straigth Off Adolf”. A tune like “Sneaking Out” is an enigmatic gem that reminds me that I can’t seem to reconcile the average age of the band with some of the content. Whether or not they are intentionally pandering to a younger audience becomes a moot point since older punks can crank these songs without feeling self-conscious. Chalk that up to an honest sounding delivery and the overall burliness of the band’s sound and appearance. Smogtown’s lyrics and vocal delivery is what sets it apart from the hoards of Johnny Rotten-come-latelys and Decendents-lite bands that pass for contemporary punk rock these days. If you can relate to or laugh at Repo Man, than Smogtown is for you. LP $10 SKU:13800
