NEW ARRIVALS

BELLADONNA -Night Shade (Texas metal/hard rock 1990)Label:SHROOMANGEL Obscure Melodic Metal/Hard Rock band from Texas — featuring Robert Hampton from Hooker —with a shelved album forgotten since 1990. The tape with the album songs was rescued recently to digital treatment and added a few bonus tracks from rough demos. All of this material was recorded between 1989 and 1990. Belladonna was formed in January of 1989. By that winter the band had moved to Nashville for a production deal that went sour. The experience inspired the writing of 'Watching You,' 'Power Surge', and 'Once Again.' Upon returning to Houston the band began playing out, getting radio airplay, gaining a strong following, and by the summer of 1990 recorded a live video concert for the TV show Metallurgy. By the fall of 1990 the song 'Once Again' caught the ear of Rick Chavez (producer and leading member of the band Drive (Rampage/Rhino Records) leading the band to be courted for a recording deal. Tensions had been brewing towards the latter part of the year and the band inevitably split up with Mike and Rude leaving for Los Angeles to record 'Once Again' for Drive's "Diablero" album and eventually join forces with Drive. File Under: Melodic Heavy Metal, Glam Metal, Hard Rock. For fans of: Seduce, Odin, St. Elmo's Fire and World War III. (LIMITED TO 300 COPIES - TEXAS ROCK DYAMONDS SERIES) CD $15 SKU:24723

MANDHYLON -Negra ciudad(68-70 Argentine blues psych)Label:LION From the ashes of the mythical Argentine duo Sandhy & Mandhy—who recorded in 1969 the intensely rare and beloved album “Para Castukis” (reissued by Lion Productions on vinyl and CD), a record suffused with beat and psychedelic influences—comes this resurrection by Mandhy of his "Celestial Stories." Alberto Vanasco Jr. (Mandhy) resumes his musical tale with twelve tracks written between 1968 and 1978. Recorded with the analogue essence and sound of the 70s, using vintage instruments like Farfisa and Hammond organ, and fuzz guitar. Features Argentine rock legends Nexus as the backing band. A record which brings together all of the various crucial elements of Argentine rock music: psychedelia, heavy blues, classic rock, and progressive rock. Stunning CD $15 SKU:24763

CHARLEY NO FACE -THE GREEN MAN (psychrock /fuzz masterpiece)Label:FORBIDDEN PLACE Charley No Face 's s/t debut album is a psychrock/fuzz masterpiece. HOOKER- Rock and Roll (Ltd ed Houston 1978 blues guitar) ltd color vinyl - Label:SHROOMANGEL Previously unreleased Houston hard rock band from the late 70’s with that ripping Texas twin guitar sound. This album was taken from sessions recorded in 1978, painstakingly unearthed, edited and remastered for proper release. On multi colored vinyl, limited to 500 copies! Hooker had been around in various configurations since 1972. First recordings began in 1974 at Rampart Studios under the direction of studio engineer Jeff Wells. Those early demos featured Hooker as a three piece hard rock/blues rock band, it wasnt until later that they began to take a decidedly heavier approach in sound and style. With the addition of Robert Hampton in place of Tim Cannon on lead/rhythm guitar, the band began to find their direction and hit the clubs hard. Influenced by bands such as Tin House, Ted Nugent, and Black Oak Arkansas, Hooker had it all on stage - flash, great songs, lots of groupies, and of course all the best drugs! Well, that couldnt last, and the band called it a day in 1983 when the lifestyle finally caught up to David Howland. The other members soldiered on in various reconstructed versions of Hooker, with varying degrees of success. The short lived post Hooker band Stallions was a highlight, with all the same elements of Hooker including three of the four members. Eventually, David would rejoin the band and Stallions became Hooker for all intents and purposes. Unfortunately, the music world had changed too dramatically since the days when a band could play the kind of loud, aggressive, dual guitar riff-rock that Hooker so convincingly played. This record represents the pinnacle of the band, the long lost 1978 Inergi Studios recordings that never saw official release all those years ago. This album is the one that should have come out in 1978. Better late than never. LP $28 SKU:13814

SHIVA'S HEADBAND -The Singles Collection- (1966 TEXAS psych ) limited edition Picture Disc LP, with sticker signed by the bandLabel:BLUETHROAT RECORDS "Flash back (literally) to 1966 when Austin was first feeling its oats as musical hotbed. The 13th Floor Elevators were the headliners and Conqueroo the in-crowd favorites; the third member of the Unholy Three was Shiva's HeadBand. Spencer Perskin was their flamboyant frontman, wailing away on electric violin and leading all God's children to the promised land of psychotropic drug-induced bliss. He had a wonderful partner in pianist Shawn Siegel, and a rhythm section second to none. They may have never gotten the absolute adulation of the Elevators, but in many ways Shiva's was the true hometown hero." "Shiva’s Headband are routinely ranked alongside Texan contemporaries 13th Floor Elevators and The Moving Sidewalks. Their raw-boned, sinuous and superb 1968 debut single, 'Kaleidoscoptic/Song For Peace,' fair reeks of head shop joss sticks, but the following year’s 'Take Me To The Mountains' is rather more representative: a country-rock scuffle, topped with Perskin’s scratchy fiddle, in which one can almost discern the approving clang of spittoons." —Record Collector magazine " To this day, the extravagantly-bearded Shiva’s Headband violinist/vocalist Spencer Perskin resides in Austin, Texas and still fronts a version of the band he formed in 1967. The Singles Collection compiles the four 45s they released between 1968 and 1975, appending three live tracks, and comes to you in the form of an agreeably lurid vinyl picture disc in a limited run of 1,000 copies. (limited edition Picture Disc LP, with sticker signed by the band) LP $24 SKU:20961

SHOTGUN-Dallasian Rock(70s blues rock Prev. unrel vintage studio tracks) - Label:SHROOMANGEL (USA) A blend of hard hitting riff rock á la early Led Zeppelin and James Gang, with a guitar attack reminiscent of bands like Leafhound or Edgar Broughton Band. Tight, muscular, lean and mean urban blues rock riffage and soaring, soulful vocals, punchy bass and solid drumming make for a memorable set of songs that you won't soon forget. Shotgun had a successful career in and around Dallas, TX between 1974 and 1977, playing the club circuit and recording at the cities best studios. Sadly, nothing ever came of the recording sessions and Shotgun eventually morphed into VIZION, which released an album in 1980 that featured the vocals of Jan Houston. Finally after more than 38 years, Shotgun's long lost studio sessions are presented for the first time ever on LP as they were meant to be heard. The CD versions includes eleven additional bonus tracks. The most amazing thing about these tracks is how they remained on the shelf all these years! •Tight, muscular, lean and mean urban blues rock riffage. •Previously unreleased vintage studio tracks from the 1970's LP $25 SKU:19500

BLUE CHEER -7 (1979- Rare look at the world’s first Heavy Metal Blues band!) Label:SHROOMANGEL A new limited edition TEXAS ROCK DYAMONDS series of small press-run CD releases Raw, heavy, and straight to the point—a rare and wonderful glimpse of Dickie Petersons Blue Cheer. Produced by Eric Albronda and Jim Keylor. Recorded at Army Street Studios in 1979. "Blue Cheer 7 represents a rare look at the world's first true Heavy Metal Blues Band during a late 70s reincarnation which was closest to the sound of their original great success with "Vincebus Eruptum," their million selling debut. "In 1972, the late Dickie Peterson, walked out of the studio after announcing Blue Cheer was finished, after punching his drummer in the mouth for trying to make him drink carrot juice. Despite a glowing review of their sixth LP, "Oh! Pleasant Hope!" by Lester Bangs in Rolling Stone, the band's demise was swift, and about as loud as one hand clapping. Peterson, by his own admission, struggled for years with drug and alcohol abuse, but wasn’t ready to give up on his band. In 1974, an association with Kim Fowley could not get the revamped Blue Cheer lineup a recording contract, though the demos they made together were quite good. Five years later, Dickie had another go at it, briefly enlisting guitarist, singer and songwriter Tony Rainier (whose older brother had been a Cheer roadie before dying in Vietnam) and drummer Michael Fleck." Packaged in a luxurious 6 panel digipac includes expanded artwork and seven additional bonus tracks not on the LP version! CD $10 SKU:24719

FREAK SCENE - Psychedelic Psoul ( 60s raga rock ) SALE- Label:LION Fresh from his studio experiences with The Deep and the Third Bardo, Rusty Evans decided to create a psychedelic “happening” which would also function as a recording group. He gathered together a few New York musicians, including three members of the Deep (David Bromberg among them), dubbed them the Freak Scene, and began work on the “Psychedelic Psoul” album, which was released in 1967. The intention was to pursue the Indian-Eastern influence in rock—and this raga rock idea is used to great effect on songs like ‘Grok’ and ‘Rose of Smiling Faces’ (sounds like it could have been the sole inspiration for Damon’s “Song of a Gypsy” album). As the only true psychedelic band on Columbia at the time, the Freak Scene got decent exposure. No doubt this number would have been much greater had the band been a touring ensemble, instead of a one-time psychedelic event. The album is gritty, tense, subversive, brittle, and yes, psychedelic. Perfect in its own way. Included as bonus tracks are nine demos from the summer of 1966, some of which would end up in quite a different musical context on The Deep “Psychedelic Moods” and Freak Scene albums. These songs, with their P. F. Sloan/Dylan (or even Sixto Rodriguez) vibe deepen the legacy of edgy, insightful songs from Rusty Evans/Marcus Uzilevsky. Comes with a 16-page booklet which includes a biographical portrait of Marcus, printed on FSC recycled, chlorine-free, 100% post-consumer fiber paper manufactured using biogas energy. CD $10 SKU:11550

HELLMET-Judgement Day !! (legendary 1970 proto metal)Label:SEELIE COURT Thought to be lost forever, Hellmet's legendary 1970 LP is the proto-metal find of the century. Long rumoured to exist amongst hardcore prog collectors, it used to be considered as the missing VO5 Vertigo cata!ogue number. In 1970, two acetates were cut at Oak studios (a 12” and a 7”) and then promptly lost, and those who knew of its rumoured existence decided it was mere myth or permanently lost or destroyed. But in 2021, this doom-laden metal psych masterpiece finally emerges from the Stygian depths of prog legend. Hellmet's sole lp is the ultimate incarnation of Leviathan and the Mike Stuart Span, and on this record, they hit a peak — almost like a raw undergound Led Zep 1 with elements of Cream. Hellmet's sound is characterised by a howling lead guitar tonally similar to High Tide but played in a heavy blues psych style; at times Steve Day appears to be wrestling a demonically possessed lead into submission. Three tracks are classic heavy prog proto-metal, then ‘Trust' gets into 'Dazed and Confused’ territory with its violent tale of resisting torture under the Inquisition; the dark epic 'Judgement Day' closes side one, a tale of heroin addiction and facing one's maker in an inevitable slide towards alienation and death. The LP benefits from repeat playing: it is heavy, but also deep, and has a vibe that combines anger with melancholia. A significant and historic find, if you ache for more true vintage Heavy Prog.

JOSEFUS --Not Dead Yet (Texas hard rock Unreleased 1978 Studio Sessions & Live)-Label:SHROOMANGEL Josefus are part of the first wave of Hard Rock bands formed in the end of the 60s, being the true pioneers of Heavy Rock in Texas. Their Dead Man album is one of the greatest American Hard Rock albums of the early 70s and deserves all the cult status it has been given all these years. The band resurfaced in the late 70s and then again in the late 80s, recording sporadically never abandoning their Bluesy Hard Rock roots. In the new millennium when everyone was thought the band was history, Josefus hits the stages again and keeps to this day active. BERTIE - Algy Lord Gray (1970 Kinks influenced)Label:SEELIE COURT A gloriously mad Kinks-influenced underground Edwardian progressive masterpiece. It’s as if Noel Coward, Hawkwind, The Incredible String Band, Neu, The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band and The Kinks were scrambled together in a disastrous Star Trek teleportation accident. In 1970 the Berties took over a crumbling mansion in the wilds of Wales, made this LP, sent it to John Peel (whose letter of reply is reproduced on the sleeve), and never left. They remain in Wales to this day. Bertie is a deranged subversive and witty concept album about a man’s descent into ruin. ‘Dragonfly Wings’ combines proto-motorik drumming (predating Neu) with Hawkwind and Incredible String Band influences. The surefire future hit ‘Would You Like a Brown Ale?’ is pure Ray Davies filtered through the demented minds of this ex-Etonian band of dissipated aristocratic youths mangling La Bamba into a Kinksian breakdown. ‘Would You Like To Score? says it like it is, without the wishy washy metaphors of the proletarian bands of the time—there is no ‘purple haze’ here, only, ‘where can we buy drugs’. Far better than SF Sorrow, Tommy or Arthur, Bertie is a powerful argument for the return of a feudal system and a new British Empire. To reiterate, Bertie is the greatest LP ever made, and we wish to the gods we could press it on Shellac. Only two or three original LPs are known to exist, with fabulous hand sprayed covers. THE BEST LP IN THE WORLD. Originals valued at over £4,000. "The greatest LP ever made” — Seelie Court LP $35 SKU:24684

CONSTANT SOUND-ST One of the Holy Grails of 1960’s sunshine pop and lyte psych.” — Patrick Lundborg, “The Acid ArchiveLabel:LYSERGIC SOUND Superbly constructed pop psychedelia c. 1968, performed by some of the best musicians in the world! •First commercial release of any kind and in any format of these recordings
•Comes with an 8-page booklet with photos and detailed information of the creation of this rarityFor more than fifty years, vinyl collectors and music archivists from around the world have speculated about this ultra-obscure twelve-song demo-only disc from the 1960’s: When was it pressed? Who were the musicians and the singers? Who produced this gem? What was the purpose of the record, especially considering the high talent level and the fact that it seemingly had never had a commercial release? No less an expert than the late Patrick Lundborg, one of the world’s leading experts on psychedelic culture and music and author of “The Acid Archives”, the ultimate guide to underground sounds from the 1960’s and 1970’s, called The Constant Sound demo disc "one of the Holy Grails of 1960’s sunshine pop and lyte psych," comparable to the the California sunshine style on the very rare Birmingham Sunday record, and added: "this is bound to blow the mind of any genre fan, as it delivers on all the key areas and has no obvious weaknesses." High praise from the psychedelic guru! LP $26 SKU:24006

The song has astonishingly ornate and complex almost baroque guitar playing, with exquisite and beautiful passages, and treads a mournful path with an atmosphere akin to ‘Nothing Else Matters’ by Metallica. The LP benefits from repeat playing: it is heavy, but also deep, and has a vibe that combines anger with melancholia. A significant and historic find, if you ache for more true vintage Heavy Prog. JERUSALEM ST -(1972) Insert with history of the group, lyrics and photos (HEAVY ROCKLabel:LION “Sledgehammer-heavy masterpiece of underground British rock!” —Classic Rock Magazine
“Big fat chords, wailing guitar, punch-drunk bass and straight-ahead solid drums all strutting in your face like some massive guy you just don't want to f**k with.” —Head Heritage

"I made the record because they are bloody good and it seems a shame for their sound not to be recorded... right now there's a rawness and excitement..." Ian Gillan, in Disc & Music Echo, January 29th, 1972

Heavy UK hard rock album from 1972, produced by Deep Purple's legendary frontman, Ian Gillan, originally released on the Decca/Deram label. It was Gillan who said of them: “Not many bands really excite me. But this one’s so raw and completely unpretentious. They make the biggest, bloodiest noise you can imagine, tempered with moments of extreme emotion.” And, of course, he’s right—the music is a menacing combination of over-the-top vocals and screaming lead guitars that could easily pass for something from the early British heavy metal scene—or something from the emotional hard core scene of the mid-1990's ('Primitive Man'). A favorite among vinyl collectors, the album is presented here in its ultimate glory, with all tracks direct from the original master tapes, housed in a high quality old-style gatefold cover; insert has liner notes written by bassist Paul Dean + rare photos. Stickered to indicate that this is the purple vinyl edition. Rough, raw, and doomy!

•A new pressing on transparent purple wax of this massive hard rock monster from 1972

•Housed in deluxe old style tip-on gatefold jacket

•Includes insert with history of the group, lyrics and photos LP $28 SKU:16109

LIFEBLUD- ESSE QUAM VIDERI(1970 folk /prog) -Label:SEELIE COURT Ultra rare £3000+ serene folk inflected progressive rock. Cherry Red used one song from a poor condition acetate on a recent compilation. 3 acetate copies were made in 1970, and Seelie Court used the only surviving near mint LP that's owned by an ex-member as source with great audio. The songs
'Oakenshade' and 'Waxing Of The Moon' are poetic genius, using a guitar with a damaged bridge to create a sitar like drone, the vocals have an air of resigned melancholia, and the lyrics connect with a mystical understanding of and reverence for nature. Issued with the full cooperation of all the band. Lifeblud later explored a heavier sound that sometimes hits the level of High Tide. Housed in a gatefold sleeve with band
history, reproducing the original typed lyric sheets, and repro of the acetate labels. LP $28 SKU:24153

PLUS -ST Belgian jazz-funk-rock LP from 1972. CLEAR VINYL-Label:Golden Pavilion Records Exclusive pressing on clear vinyl of this holy grail of European progressive jazz-funk featuring players from Marc Moulin's Placebo / Sam Suffy, and El Chicles / Nico Gomez crew…. or as someone says on Discogs: "HOLY GRAIL! A Funk Jazzy classic record. Deep groove with a deep bass and powerful horns. Excellent from start to finish. KILLER!!!” LP $25 SKU:24751

SLAVE-The Lover, the Madman and the Poet (70s downer psych)Label:SEELIE COURT Slow, echo-laden and atmospheric, using a psyched out twangy guitar and Doors- esque vocals intoning strange and twisted tales: a depressed Jim Morrison colliding with Hank Marvin and Lord Byron in a sonic suicide pact of downer psych prog mystery. A few sleeve-less copies of Slaves sole Deroy LP exist, but devoid of information — and thus no one has been able to find out anything about the band. Seelie Court believes it to be connected to 9.30 Fly but they deny involvement, although Barbara Wainwright did concede that "it does sound a bit like us.” The Shadows on a bad acid trip? It’s a love or hate LP that leaves some listeners awe-struck and others deeply confused. LP $35 SKU:24687

STEVE BROWN BAND- Soul Full of Sin (70s cool jazz)-Label:SEELIE COURT Steve brown formed this outfit in 1971, and they quickly developed a tight style of cool but potent jazz rock, characterised by lengthy powerful instrumental breaks and sax, and infectious beats. This LP pieces together what should have been a debut record on Transatlantic from remaining studio tapes and acetate sources. The six tracks are pure killer, opening with ‘Hitman’ which is sung first person from the point of view of an assassin for hire; stone cold cool with a fantastic bass-line and rhythm it conjurs up early seventies nihilistic film and tv imagery. The side ends with a genuine lost anthem in ‘Shine A Light,’ epic and melancholic. The lyrics are fab, and have a worldly wise quality about them. One of the greatest bands no one has heard of, hereby rescued from slipping into the ether, despite once being on the verge of a deal with Transatlantic and garnering a massive live following in their native Newcastle area during the early to mid seventies. A completely pro band, with brilliant songs, and a unique style. In 1973, the band hit a bad patch, burnt out by extensive gigging, they crashed their Transit Tour Van on a motorway, miraculously surviving. LP $35 SKU:24688

STRANG, JOHN-THE MASTERPEACE (private press 1968 folk rock rarity) Label:SEELIE COURT A super rare privately pressed folk rock LP from 1968 is now finally available on a bigger scale! The LP was originally pressed in a super limited run of 25 copies, which nowadays are obviously unaffordable! Sir John Graves, who after his musical career became a leading authority on the psychiatry of drug addiction, recorded this delightful, somewhat Donovanesque LP with two friends (Valentine Lewis Lloyd and Martin Farquharson) in Wales when he was only 17 years old.
