PEBBLES “BOX “ SET - Vol 1-5 COLOR! VINYL

Lenny Kaye letter, and more! -Label:AIP I found a few COLOR VINYL copies of PEBBLES 2,3,4,and 5, and because we only have BLACK on VOl #1, we’re gonna do a repro of the famous PINK INSERT COVER FROM THE original 1978 release and the legendary LENNY KAYE LETTER discussing the series with Greg! Here’s what you get, all in a “BOX” set :

PEBBLES VOL 1 - BLACK VINYL WITH COPY OF ORIG INSERT COVER
PEBBLES VOL 2- RED VINYL
PEBBLES Vol 3- BLUE VINYL
PEBBLES VOL 4- ORANGE VINYL PEBBLES VOL 5- CLEAR VINYL

LENNY KAYE LETTER - PEBBLES. THE SERIES THAT INSPIRED THE ENTIRE GARAGE ROCK REVIVAL! In his review of the Pebbles series for Allmusic, Richie Unterberger comments: "Though 1972's Nuggets compilation reawakened listeners to the sounds of mid-'60s garage rock, it only focused on the tip of the iceberg. Behind those forgotten hits and semi-hits lurked hundreds, if not thousands, of regional hits and flops from the same era, most even rawer and cruder. . . . More than any other factor, these compilations [in the Pebbles series] were responsible for the resurgence of interest in garage rock, which remains high among collectors to this day.

ATLANTIC BLUES-1949-1970-4 CD Box Set with booklet- Label:RHINO HANDMADE UNSEALED PROMO COPY, MARK THRU BARCODE, BUT MINT ARCHIVE COPY BELONGING TO EITHER THE OWNER OF BOMP OR ALIVE. 2009 marks the 60th anniversary of Atlantic Records, one of the most influential independent music companies of all time. Founded by a pair of jazz and blues aficionados -- the late Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson -- Atlantic quickly became the country's preeminent R&B label (in fact, longtime Atlantic producer Jerry Wexler is widely credited with coining the term "Rhythm & Blues"). Rhino Handmade pays tribute to the label's lasting legacy with Atlantic Blues (1949-1970), a 4-CD box set highlighting the wide variety of blues that found a home at Atlantic.

Produced by Billy Vera, Atlantic Blues features 80 tracks culled from the label's first four decades, featuring virtually every style of blues imaginable. From the down-home sounds of Blind Willie McTell to the urban jump of Joe Morris, from male and female shouters like Joe Turner and LaVern Baker, to sophisticated instrumental work from the likes of Jimmy Yancey and T-Bone Walker, it's all here. Among the other artists featured on Atlantic Blues are New Orleans piano great Professor Longhair, Leadbelly, Jimmy Witherspoon, Champion Jack Dupree, Esther Phillips, Freddie King, and Otis Rush. Soul legends Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin also weigh in with several sides that showcase their skills as blues singers. The first of a trio of limited-edition boxed sets honoring genres championed by the label, ATLANTIC BLUES (1949-1970) is presented in a sepia-toned 12'' x 12'' box that includes a booklet filled with extensive liner notes and rare photos. Atlantic's very first hit -- Stick McGhee and His Buddies' "Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee" - was a blues record, and as this new Rhino Handmade collection convincingly demonstrates, both the music and the label built on it were made to last. GRAVEL ROAD- Psychedelta - SEALED (T MODELS backing band Label:KnickKnack With 60,000 road miles under their belts as a result of nine tours in three years backing Delta Blues great T-Model Ford, GravelRoad was itching to get back in the studio. For their third album they knew they had to do something different. From the opening track Devil Eyes to the closing Let Me Hold You, Psychedelta seeps into your ears with darker, grittier, deep blues. Aided and abetted by Detroit producer Jim Diamond (White Stripes, The Dirtbombs, The Pack A.D.) to bring the most out of the band’s "tight looseness”, Stefan Zillioux (guitar and vocals), Jon Kirby Newman (guitar, bass, vocals), and Martin Reinsel (drums) swim in a sea of blues infused with heavier rock but not overpowered by it. The blues is always present; the riffs are always there. There are moments when Jon Spencer Blues Explosion comes to mind, but Psychedelta is a tighter approach. They aren’t attempting to blow up the blues, just explore it, push it where it can be pushed. Hard, if necessary. LP $15 SKU:23970

BLISS Return to Bliss (Excellent 1969 HARD PSYCH) Label:VOID Arizona power-trio Bliss' second album, previously unreleased. How can that be, you ask? During the making of the classic eponymous Bliss LP (released on Canyon in 1968/69), the band recorded two LP's at once—the second was never released, until now. Raw, heavy power trio action from Arizona (Brad Reed, Rusty Martin and Corky Aldred), very powerful indeed; producer, as on the Canyon LP, was Hadely Murrell. Some feel that ‘Hippies, Cops And A Bunch Of Rocks’ and ‘Music Train’ are destined to become classics of the psychedelic genre. LP $16 SKU:19257

FOX- For Fox Sake (1970 UK PSYCH ZOMBIES STYLE)- Label:SOMMER Originally released in 1970 but sounding more akin to ‘67-68, “For Fox Sake” is a superb example of UK psych, highly recommended if you’re into APPLE, KOOBAS, ZOMBIES, OCTOPUS, SKIP BIFFERTY, SPENCER DAVIS GROUP, RUBBLES. First ever vinyl reissue with original UK artwork. Remastered sound and insert with photos / memorabilia plus liner notes by band member Steve Brayne. Formed in Brighton in 1968 with roots to the mod-soul scene, The Fox consisted of Steve (Stephen) Brayne on lead guitar & vocals, Winston Weatherill (ex-Gary Farr & The T-Bones) on lead guitar & sitar, Alex Lane on keyboards & vocals, Tim Reeves on drums and Dave Windross on bass. During their brief existence they supported The Herd and opened for David Bowie. Their sound was loud and righteous with great vocal harmonies, tight rhythm section and wonderful keyboard /guitar solos. After getting signed to a London management, they recorded their only LP in one session and they had it released in the UK on the Fontana label and on the USA on Crewe, featuring a different cover. Sadly, the band broke up following year and since the inclusion of “Butterfly” in one of the Rubbles comps several decades later, they've become a cult group among psych collectors LP $25 SKU:22891

JOINT EFFORT -Final Effort (intriguing folk/rock/psych 1974) SAALE! -Label:VOID/HALLUCINATIONS RECORDS (USA) With its immediately recognizable M C Escher cover, this intriguing folk/rock/psych release from 1974 is another incredibly rare album enjoying its first legitimate reissue. A Joint Effort's Final Effort was originally recorded and released by Canada's University Of New Brunswick on its Little Records label (Little Records 101); despite its lack of wider recognition, this is generally regarded by those who know as a diverse and eclectic album with a number of outstanding tracks. One pundit described it as 'a weird mix of early CSNY, with shades of Perth County Conspiracy and a dash of early Eagles thrown in.' The first side, with the superb 'Winter' is particularly impressive—largely acoustic hippy folk rock with the occasional electric guitar thrown in for good measure. Side two, however, is an altogether rockier affair with standout tracks 'Greed For Goldand,' an up-tempo fuzzed-out cover of ‘A Horse With No Name’ combining effectively to elevate Final Effort to a different musical plane. Original cover has been reproduced as well as rare original insert. LP $15 SKU:19256

BORN LOSERS- CYCLE GUITARS (Davie Allen style)SAALE!-Label:MEAN DISPOSITION In these times of copious record releases, it was sort of strange that the Born Losers -a popular and already veteran band, with three excellent and successful singles under their belt- had still not waxed an album. It was not a matter of indolence, since their members were involved in all sorts of side projects, and their first LP confirms that the Losers were getting ripe for top-rank R'n'R. The results are exceptional indeed. Far from their early influences -namely, the sound of Davie Allan & The Arrows-, the band retains its peculiar sixties flavour, but their references have increased. The clear Arrows influence from their beginnings has now been replaced by ideas from the Challengers or the sound of the Ventures in their late Dolton records/early Liberty waxings: raw R'n'R, allied with pop melodies, jazzy touches and film music, without ever falling into corniness. The Born Losers are emerging as clear winners with this latest offering. CD $8 SKU:20655

BUMP - ST (70s guitar psych monster)-Label:GEAR FAB This is a fantastic prog/psychedelic monster, a mixture of dreamy organ psych with heavy fuzz bluster, very much like CA Quintet. Ghostly, swirly organs, burning rough guitars, sound effects, fuzz/wah-wah guitars, trippy, lysergic vocals and great melodies. A killer album from start to finish CD $10 SKU:13437

BUTTERSPRITES- ST (JAPANESE GIRL GARAGE)-Label:Dionysus Pan-Asian in a volcanic, Pacific Rim kinda way, the Buttersprites draw energy from downtown Tokyo, mossy Seattle pubs, cartoon monsters, and some glamorous parallel universe of glitter, cherry blossoms, and ersatz nurse uniforms. They are fierce, fun, fabulous, and now-y. Their simple and charming sound is like a soundtrack from eighties independent flick, sometimes sweet and sometimes punky, in Japanese and English lyrics. CD $5 SKU:18956

CAVALIERS-ST ( French instro-surf band 50s and 60s style)Label:BORN BAD Debut album by young French instro-surf band inspired by all the late 50's and early 60's surf/instro heros like Link Wray, Dick Dale, Trashmen (to name a few) and their stylistic methods of handling the surf guitar. CENTURY EXPANDED CONCERT-Concerto For Wah Wah- (Prev unknown early 70s psych gem)Label:GEAR FAB Wow!! What a find!! A previously unknown Gem from early 1970. CHAINO - Eye of the Spectre (50s African percussion genius )-Label:DIONYSUS n the '50s Kirby Allen recorded a stack of albums and 45s with African percussion genius CHAINO. All this stuff is now very collectable amongst Incredibly Strange Music-lovers. An unbelievably eye-catching cover (especially when you know it was originally released in 1957) houses Chaino's most savage percussive outing. "Eye" contains a generous serving of sensual rhythms and gut wrenching screams as recorded at the world famous Gold Star Studios in the late 1950s, with producer Kirby Allan doing his best to make a seduction album that would have couples in a humping frenzy by the end of the first side! CD $5 SKU:19840

CHAINS- On TOp of Things (60s garage style)-Label:GET HIP While the Chains hew closely to the early garage formula -- that is, more jangly than fuzzed-out and tuned down low, and tweaking it enough to make it their own, they breakaway on occasion, as if to prove they're aware it's 2003, not 1966 CD $10 SKU:21926

CHAPLIN HARNESS-II(60s psych)Label:GEAR FAB Off the master tapes, their follow-up lp to their self-titled album in 1969 recoded at Mod Sound Studios. TWO TIMING BABY -Ember Sixties Pop: Volume 2, 1961-1962Label:FANTASTIC EMBER In 1960, Jeffrey Kruger launched Ember Records as an independent, one of very few in the UK, where the majors held sway. Straight away, the label set about trying to break into the charts with many fine pop releases. The Ember Sixties Pop series compiles the best of those records. “Two Timing Baby” picks up the story from where Say When: Ember Sixties Pop Volume 1 (FVCD044) left off. Carter, Lewis & The Southerners first Ember single ‘Two Timing Baby’/’Will It Happen To Me’ features Joe Meek engineering, Geoff Goddard on piano, Albert Lee on guitar, Chas Hodges on bass and Bobby Graham on drums. The Meek connection continues with Mark Douglas only single: Joe produced ‘It Matters Not’/’Upside Down’ and Tornado Clem Cattini confirms he drums on both tracks. American songwriters Buddy Kaye and Phil Springer penned many hits, including ‘The Next Time’ for Cliff Richard. They brought several songs to Ember and Grant Tracy was the adaptable vocalist on ‘The Great Matchmaker’/’The Tears Came Rolling Down’ and the follow-up flip ‘Taming Tigers.’ Other beneficiaries of the prolific Kaye and Springer were Johnny Carson (‘Are You Anyone s Girl’/’Teenage Bachelor’ and, again, ‘The Tears Came Rolling Down’) and Sandra Gale (‘Hello Heartache’/’If She s Right For You’) who had been girl singer with the Ray Ellington Quartet, joining Ember when Ellington did. Kruger chose the songs for Lita Roza’s single with the aim of moving her sound towards pop and rock n roll, and she turns in fine performances on ‘Mama (He Treats Your Daughter Mean)’/’(He s My) Dreamboat,’ aided by a driving band led by Tony Crombie. Brooklyn-born Kerry Adams recorded her single in New York, conducted by future soul giant Jerry Ragovoy. The Dale Sisters cute harmonies are evident on their second Ember single, ‘Road To Love’/’Secrets.’ Tommy Sanderson’s second Ember 45 combined trad-jazz ‘Ding Dong Rag’ with groovy ‘Piano A Go Go,’ which would have made a great theme for a TV detective show. Many of these original singles are highly collectable (mint copies of Mark Douglas are valued at £75, Carter, Lewis & The Southerners at £50 and Lita Roza at £30). Subsequent volumes will carry the story through to the end of the sixties, with further sought after tracks included. The series is complemented by compilations devoted to beat and rock from the Ember vaults. Recordings are mastered from tape, where available, and booklets illustrated with sleeve and label shots. Nice shrink-wrapped slip-case packaging. COMP CD $8 SKU:19205

YA GOTTA HAVE MOXIE - Vol 2 - WAREHOUSE FIND - Label:AIP Super rare out of print comp. In the late 1970s and '80s, the Moxie label was famous, or infamous, for its Boulders compilations of obscure '60s garage rock. Boulders was to Pebbles what Pebbles was to Nuggets; an even rawer, more obscure approach to unearthing '60s garage music, in both the rarities arena and the fidelity and graphics of the packages. More than a decade after Boulders' demise, AIP (which handles the Pebbles series) is anthologizing its one-time rival, this first volume presenting a whopping 52 songs (including one, the Checklads' "Shake Yourself Down," that did not appear on the original Moxie series) on its two CDs. The pressings of Boulders were notorious for their poor fidelity, and to its credit, AIP (not exactly a bastion of digitized sound itself) has remastered from cleaner copies of these rarities when possible. This is one of the better bulky garage anthologies, as it is more flexible in its scope than many '60s punk comps (such as the later Pebbles volumes, which usually stick to standard snotty rants. There are plenty of those here, actually, but there are also some good folk-rockers, a Sonny & Cher soundalike (Boo Boo & Bunky), a cover of a song from the Mothers' Freak Out (the Basooties' "You Didn't Try to Call Me"), and a single that sounds like a Freak Out wannabe (Communication Aggregation's "Freakout USA"). There are also some touches of pop and soul, as in the Cherry Slush's outstanding "I Cannot Stop You," and the Down 5's "I'm Takin' It Home," produced by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. And there are a surprising number of entries recorded by major labels. For pure '60s punk dementia, it doesn't get much hotter than the Chocolate Moose's "Chocolate Moose Theme." The Avengers' "Open Your Eyes," which affixes some hypnotic psychedelia to the Byrds' jangle-folk-rock, is one of the great, outstanding, obscure mid-'60s singles of all; the Birdwatchers' "I'm Gonna Love You Anyway," with its neat alternation of stomping verse and light British Invasion harmonies on the chorus, had (unlike most of the stuff on Boulders) actual hit potential. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide COMP CD $50 SKU:22396

CAL - Homegrown (60s/70s influenced psych hard-rock) -Label:OUT-SIDER Totally under the radar US private pressing from 1982. 60s/70s influenced psychedelic hard-rock full of distorted guitar and freaky synths with some mellowed-out folky moments. File next to other psych misfits such like T Kail, D.R. Hooker, Marcus, Michael Angelo…

Cal - also known as “Cal Rock&Roll” - was a band formed in the mid-70s in New York by some veteran musicians from the club scene: Larry Calabrese on guitar & vocals, Andy Barone on bass, Jerry Joly on drums / vocals and Jeffrey Gaer on keyboards. Famous for their powerful live shows – one of their stellar moments was opening for Leslie West & Mountain - , Cal secured a faithful fan base, especially among the biker crowd.
“Homegrown” was released in 1982 in a edition of 2000 copies, most of which were discarded due to pressing faults. Also, the album mastered at lower speed. Soon after, Larry met Todd Rundgren at a recording studio and he expressed interest in the band and some of their songs. Famous record label Sugarhill were also interested in adding Cal to their roster but nothing came of it in the end. So “Homegrown” vanished into obscurity until some original copies were discovered by psych dealers and collectors in the 90s.

CEM KARACA -Kardaslar 1974 (TURKISH GUITAR ROCK PIONEER 1960s and 70s) Label:GUERSSEN Sophisticated & passionate, with flamboyant taste in sunglasses, Cem Karaca once led Istanbul’s music fans through a period of violent political turmoil. Karaca reworked traditional folk lyrics with molten electric bass lines that played up both a poet’s broiling righteousness and also his listeners’ common ground with their elders in Turkey’s history. This is the second album from Karaca, released in 1974. It leads the listener through Karaca’s own musical history, skipping across various collaborations and bands up to his then-current project Dervi an. Can throbbing Anatolian guitars take on the assassins of the Grey Wolves? Imagine a hairy pied piper with R Kelly’s flair for drama, wailing into a microphone over an electric ba lama, and you’re ready to enter the bohemian world of Papa Cem. Remastered sound (sounding much better than the original pressing), insert with detailed liner notes. CD $10 SKU:21147

CHARGE - ST (1973 hard rock) Label:WOODEN HILL Recorded in January 1973 as a demo-only pressing to hawk around the major record companies of the era, heavy rock trio Charge's frenzied, guitar-drenched album was counterfeited on both vinyl and CD in the 1990s, and consequently is now firmly established as one of the most legendary rarities to escape from the early Seventies British psychedelic/progressive underground scene. This first-ever authorised reissue adds a previously undocumented LP from twelve months earlier and tells the band's story for the first time. With re-mastered sound and a 12-page booklet with numerous hitherto-unpublished photos, this is the definitive issue of a definitive album! CD $15 SKU:23036
