NEW ARRIVALS

REVERBERATIONS -- GONE WAY/MY THIRD EYE (garage psych)Label:ROGUE RECORDS Following in the long tradition of Pacific Northwest garage-psychedelia, The Reverberations have been spreading the love of fuzz, 12-string jangle, pounding drums, and Vox organ across Portland and far beyond for the last 7 years. After one cassette, two LPs and four singles on US and European labels, this is their first release since 2020. 'Gone Away' is a bouncy rude number straight from the garage, and the psych-pop flip, 'My Third Eye' suggests searching inward, while rockin' outward. 45 RPM $14 SKU:25144

AKA-CRAZY JOE(Indonesian '70s heavy psych rock)Label:GRANADILLA MUSIC A CD-reissue of the third LP from the leading Indonesian '70s rockband. Compared to their previous output this '72 collection there are some new and surprising changes of direction. These are showcased by the powerful funk rock of the opening title track, the dirty garage beat of 'Skip Away' and 'Raja Jalan', and various up tempo soul-pop tunes. And, of course, we also hear moments of Indo balladry and tinges of soft rock. Fans of exotic pop à la Baris Manco, soft rock in the vein of late '60s-mid '70s Hollies and the emotional Eastern German pop/rock of Karat and Die Puhdys will love this utterly beautiful record. CD $10 SKU:20861

It does not necessarily mean that any international audience for heavy rock and psychedelic sounds would have noticed that back then but we change that now. A beautiful reissue with lush epic ballads, powerful heavy rock, a great beat tune with a flowery feel that drags you straight to the dancehall and another epic, yet utterly heavy blues rock and psyche freak out track that makes this a colourful album to spin on your stereo. Fans of 60s US west coast dream pop who may stand heavier tunes and devoted music lovers who go for the classic 60s and early 70s sound will go nuts CD $10 SKU:20863

APOCALYPSE (USA) -THE CASTLE (Chicago 70s prog w fuzz guitars) Label:OUT-SIDER 70s Chicago-area based band Apocalypse used their double-neck guitars to create chamber prog suites about faraway castles. Their lost 1976 LP (used as a demo), with male/female harmonies, violin, mellotron and fuzzed-out guitars/keys has been unearthed by Steve "Plastic Crimewave" Krakow. With their lenghty and tuneful musical odysseys, Apocalypse conjures the golden mid-'70s progressive period of Renaissance, Soft Machine, ELP, Gentle Giant and Genesis. Travel back in time with the Salvatori family. Way back to 1976, when he was in high school, Tom Salvatori teamed up with older brother Michael Salvatori, Michael's wife Gail Salvatori and Tom's classmate Scott Magnesen. As Apocalypse they recorded an album of pure progressive rock magic called 'The Castle.' Although the 5-song, 38-minute demo was an amazing showcase for their collective progressive rock leanings, 'The Castle' remained an unreleased artifact until 2021 when the reel-to-reel master tape of the presumably long-lost relic was rediscovered by Michael in a dusty old basement storage bin. Music fans can be thankful that Michael's rediscovery of the Apocalypse master tape has now led to a vinyl-only reissue of 'The Castle.'Sourced from the original masters. Insert with photos and liner notes by Plastic Crimewave. Artwork by Sara Gossett. LP $32 SKU:25140

LP $34 SKU:24466

SUGAR BEAR -ST (Some people say when describing this album to think of a cross between Jefferson Airplane and the Byrds, with drops of Santana”)Label:VOID A charming chunk of super rare rural rock/swamp psych from the Sunshine state, c. 1972 — released as a private pressing on the Gaff label and later bootlegged by the execrable Radioactive outfit. Sugar Bear were a four-piece from Florida featuring guitarist John McLaughlin — no, not that one (Mahavishnu John McLaughlin), another one! — named after the hip American 1970s singing and guitar playing cartoon character. The album is typically described as a blend of rural rock, and country rock. But hey, the term ''rural rock'' covers quite a lot, from swampy rock ’n' roll to country rock in the style of The Outlaws or Pure Prairie League. In this instance, Sugar Bear produced an album of high originality, defying categorization. This is a record of real depth and intelligence, covering many styles, and with some psychedelic touches to note. There is some slow and some fast material (a blend that is far from unusual), with a few Grateful Dead moves too. Still not sure? Some people say when describing this album to “think of a cross line between Jefferson Airplane and the Byrds, with drops of Santana.” Legitimate 450x copy pressing on black vinyl, with insert. LP $22 SKU:25173

TRUTH AND JANEY- No Rest for the Wicked - New pressing(70s guitar ) Label:ROCKADROME/LION “This is essential, must-get release for fans of 1970’s hard rock.” —Roadburn
“One of the greatest hard rock albums of all-time.” —The Acid Archives
•Considered by many to be perhaps the best independent U.S. heavy rock release of the 1970’s!
•Includes insert with history of the group, lyrics and rare band photos
•High quality vinyl reissue of this hard rock monster from 1976 by legendary underground power trio led by guitarist BillyLee Janey
A total heavy sonic assault! Since the release of “No Rest for the Wicked’s” in 1976, it's stature among collectors of 60’s and 70’s hard rock and psychedelia has grown steadily over the years, with original copies now fetching large sums. Originally formed as Truth in 1969 in Iowa, USA, Truth & Janey was named after a record by Jeff Beck. Between 1973-75 they played thousands of gigs, many with Leslie West, as well as playing with Blue Öyster Cult at a festival in Davenport, Iowa in front of 20,000 hard rock fans. All the while, Truth & Janey were writing original material, gearing up to record their first full length album. In 1976, they laid down the tracks that would see release on their stunning “No Rest for the Wicked” album later that same year. The record featured six original tunes and two traditional blues covers revved up in true powerhouse Truth and Janey fashion. Only 1,000 copies of the album were pressed on the local Montross records. Just as the ball started rolling, it all ended, as Denis Bunce left the group and quickly thereafter they completely disbanded. In a last ditch effort, guitarist Billy Janey reformed the group with all new members in 1977 and released the “Just a Little Bit of Magic” album, but it was a move in a completely different direction and has little to do with the ferocious hard rock Marshall 100-watt super lead guitar sound that dominates “No Rest for the Wicked.” "Not to be dismissed because of its underground status, Truth and Janey's only LP, No Rest for the Wicked, was another incredible find... Boasting a swaggering, bluesy grit, piercing twin-harmony licks, and the most righteously ferocious rhythm guitar tone this side of Ted Nugent, opener 'Down the Road I Go' instantly establishes the band's '70s hard rock aesthetic whose roots, not surprisingly, lie in English giants like Cream, Jeff Beck, and even more so in Rory Gallagher's Taste." —AllMusic. LP $28 SKU:25152

WEEPING MIST-Lonely Streets-Garage Psych Mood-o-delicaLabel:TIME MACHINE PRO The debut album by Athens-based Weeping Mist! Weeping Mist is the personal vehicle of Spiros Megedisidis, guitar player of Greece's best garage/psychedelic band Yesterday's Thoughts. 16 songs sprayed with a tremendous '66 Texas garage attitude and feeling. You have never (almost) heard garage psych '60s played like this before. And then there's those lyrics... Fragile, sentimental, naively written, expressing Spiros' daylife routine, his thoughts, worries, life experiences, relationships with other people, relationship with the Divine... Place yourself in a lonely street, let the invisible Weeping Mist shroud you, and leave the rest to that magical garage psych mood-o-delica sounds... Limited to 200 copies on black vinyl. LP $30 SKU:24970

RESTOCKS

BERTIE - Algy Lord Gray (1970 Kinks influenced)-Label:SEELIE COURT A mad Kinks-influenced underground progressive masterpiece. It's as if Noel Coward, Hawkwind, The Incredible String Band, Neu, The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band and The Kinks were scrambled together in a disastrous Star Trek teleportation accident. In 1970 the Berties took over a crumbling mansion in the wilds of Wales, made this album, sent it to John Peel, and never left. They remain in Wales to this day. 'Algy Lord Grey' is a deranged subversive and witty concept album about a man's descent into ruin. CD $19 SKU:24801

INVADERS - There’s A Light , There’s A Way (70s African fuzz ) - Label:FRESH South African rock classic from 1971, filled with fuzz psych guitars, funky organ riffs, and great vocals: it sounds like these guys had been listening to Rare Earth, and judging by the guitar solos, maybe some Jimi Hendrix as well!. Errol Gobey (rhythm guitar, vocals) recalls: “It was a lot of hard work and we had very little sleep. In October 1966, we decided to visit Cape Town. The audience loved us, they went crazy, they wouldn’t let us off the stage! Our name spread quickly throughout the Cape. Somehow Trutone Records, which had a branch in the Cape, got to hear about us. One day we were travelling on the N2 in our panel van. We had ‘The Invaders’ painted in huge letters on the side. A white car pulled alongside us and asked us to pull over. We thought we were in trouble and were going to get a fine of some sort. A white guy approached us and asked us if we were interested in a recording contract. We immediately answered, ‘Yes!’” In 1969, the Invaders decided to try to break into the overseas market. They toured in Europe for two months (Germany, Holland, and England); but they had endless hassles and red tape trying to get work permits. The constant hurdles made them decide to go home. In April 1971, shortly after this album was released, The Invaders disbanded “for religious reasons,” (according to Gobey). The CD version has two bonus tracks—covers of ‘Born on the Bayou’ and (strangely) the Creation’s ‘Painter Man.’CD $14 SKU:12043

MERGERS -THREE APPLES IN THE ORANGE GROVE (Brit rock/freakbeat/psych)-Label:SOUNDFLAT After three singles released digitally, here comes the eagerly awaited third album by The Mergers. POETS - Try Me Again (Scotland's #1 beat/mod/freakpop group from the 60's) Label:DYNOVOX The DVD contains a long lost 1965 acetate of 'Try Me Again,' '60s home movies, live show film of 'Midnight Hour', '60s TV clip of 'Now We're Thru' as well as a few unreleased acetates. CD $17 SKU:12758

PRETTY THINGS- PARACHUTE -digipak-Label:MADFISH If "S.F. Sorrow" is the Pretty Things' "Sgt. Pepper," "Magical Mystery Tour,” and "Yellow Submarine" wrapped in one, then “Parachute" is their more succinct "White Album" and "Abbey Road." It's not just a time line comparison. The Pretties made this fascinating LP in the same studio as the Fab Four, London's Abbey Road, with Beatles engineer Norman Smith producing. 'The Good Mr. Square' replicates the three-part harmony the Beatles were so proud of on ‘Because.' Two songs later, the group assembles a brief, interconnected three-song suite like the famous ones on side two of Abbey Road. Bassist Wally Allen's vocals on tracks such as 'Sickle Clowns' have the same throaty, mad anguish that John Lennon exhibited on 'Yer Blues' and 'Happiness Is a Warm Gun.' If "S.F. Sorrow" is psychedelic rock grandeur, then “Parachute" is its more bitter twist, the dream dying and the witching hour upon us. Yet, if this isn't as much of a triumph, the creative neurons are still firing throughout a multi-varied, cohesive LP. Like "S.F. Sorrow," it's a concept LP. This time the topic is a generation caught between the conflicting calls of (rural) peace, love, and boredom, and (urban) sophistication, sex, and squalor in a harsh world. Somehow the departure of the band's main creative force, Dick Taylor, didn't diminish the writing and inspired variety. Allen stepped up big time into the collaborator role with singer Phil May. The harmonies remain a strong point on an otherwise rock-inclined record, and the nasty edge of perfectly balanced bombast in the best songs have been a lost art ever since. (There are eighteen minutes of good stuff tacked on the Snapper edition, taken from singles.)" CD $14 SKU:23999

BRIGG- ST (collectable psych/folk/hard-rock album from 1973.)Label:GUERSSEN First ever legit vinyl reissue, sanctioned by the band members, of this collectable psych/folk/hard-rock album from 1973. Brigg were a rural Pennsylvania folk-tinged psychedelic band formed by three high school friends: Rob Morse, Jeff Willoughby, and Rusty Foulke. In 1973, they borrowed the money to record their first album together. They called it Brigg after one member saw the name in a dream. It was recorded at a grocery store converted into a 4-track studio. The photos for the cover were taken in a purportedly haunted house in Danville. The band members pressed 1000 copies and sold some to their friends but never played a live show together. They divided the remaining copies between them and went their separate ways. Several decades later, the Brigg album became a collector's item and was bootlegged all over the world. Original artwork in heavy cardboard sleeve; Insert with liner notes and photos.
