We’re going to need more storage space in our warehouse next year, with all the new ALIVE titles coming in, so I’ve been working on pruning down our archives a bit, which is good news for you guys! Check below for last copies of titles on the legendary AIP VOXX, and BOMP labels, sure to be highly collectible in years to come. And if that isn’t enough to keep you amused, there are some non-label warehouse finds listed here too, one each on most of them, so shop fast.

ALSO just in, two hot new items, the PICCADILLY SUNSHINE 11 CD BOX SET and the gatefold LP CEASE AND DESIST-DIY! Cult Classics from the Post-Punk Era.

The reviews continue to pour in for the absolutely AMAZING DM3 West of Anywhere record, if you don’t already have it, you really should get yourself a copy. My personal favorite on the turntable this month!

Thanks,
Suzy Shaw

CEASE AND DESIST-DIY! Cult Classics from the Post-Punk Era Label:OPTIMO MUSIC (UK) IY! Cult Classics from the Post-Punk Era (1978-1982) collects 15 UK 7" singles recorded between 1978 and 1982, compiled by JD Twitch to showcase the DIY spirit of those times. "If Punk was the nuclear detonation, the fallout that came after was where a lot of the most interesting music of that era was made. People who would never have thought to release a record before realised it was something they could do, and the end result was a DIY explosion. I've always loved music that doesn't try to fit in a particular genre, that is anti-canonical and doesn't care what else is going on in music at that time, that takes risks and is full of imagination and ideas that may or may not make any logical sense but that resulted in something unique, that ignores conventions about how a record SHOULD be produced and that was created simply because its creators felt the urge to express themselves and share the results with some other people. This compilation compiles 15 tracks that fulfil all those criteria. None of them had any success, most are (unjustly) obscure but every one of them has inspired me and would be in my ultimate 7" singles box" --JD Twitch. This release has been a real labor of love, involving tracing long-lost artists to far-flung corners of the globe, persuading them that the modern world needs to hear the music they made several decades ago, tracking down masters -- lovingly restoring 7"s in place of lost masters in some cases -- and conceiving an elaborate package with detailed sleeve notes to house the double album. Unfortunately, the original choice of title for this release infringed on the copyright of a series of well-known pop compilations released by a certain major label. They sent a cease and desist letter (hence the title of this edition), and did not accept proposed modifications to the original sleeves, so this edition is released in a more conventional package than was intended. Gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves containing sleeve notes and detailed overviews of each individual track by JD Twitch and an introduction by New York's DIY expert Dan Selzer. Includes tracks by Tesco Bombers, Sara Goes Pop, People in Motion, Nancy Sesay & the Melodaires, The Distributors, Dorothy, Thomas Leer, Visitors, The Murphy Federation, The Cro-Tones, Fatal Microbes, Spunky Onions, The Fakes, and The Prats. BOOK OF DAYS 60s- A Look At the Pop Culture Moment That Made History with CD (slight cover wear ) Label:SONY ARCHIVE COPY So many compilation books marking a decade of importance fall into that timeless relic category, "coffee table books". Remember how your eyes glaze over when you receive one? This book isn't one of those. In fact, coauthors Harvey Solomon and Rich Appel have managed to present music, television, and relevant political topics from 1960 through 1969 in a day-by-day fashion, but each day features a different event from a 60s year, e.g., Jan. 3, 1962 "construction begins on The Astrodome in Houston, Texas"; Jan. 4, 1965, David Lean begins filming Doctor Zhivago in Madrid"; Jan. 5, 1960, Cold War jitters roil America...Hollywood gets into the act." The snappy format keeps you moving and grooving through the decade.

ANTOINE RENCONTRE LES PROBLEMES- Les Problems scorching French '60s garage punk UNSEALED - digipack Label:MAGIC scorching French '60s garage punk. Don't be fooled by Antoine's name, this has nothing to do with his latter contributions to French sissy pop. Antoine sings on four of the songs in this album. With Les Problèmes, we're talking garage music at its best here, with fuzz and distortion everywhere, rough sound and haunting fuzz riffs, but each song has its own charm without being repetitive. Our favorite garage French-sung LP (it beats all the Québec-produced albums!) by far, we just can't understand why this hasn't been reissued until now. Included also as bonus tracks are two non-LP tracks from Les Problèmes' rare first EP, with the killer 'Passe Ton Chemin.' Remastered sound, original artwork and strictly limited to 500 copies. THESE TRAILS- ST ( 70s Hawaiian folk-psych ) -Label:SINERGIA Restock of this vaguely available reissue of the lone LP from 1973 by a Hawaiian folk-psych group, that was privately pressed at the time and largely unknown until recently. This CD appears to have been legitimately reissued by the band. Mixing fragile female vocals, guitars of an acoustic, electric and slide variety, dulcimer, tabla, recorder, sitar, and synthesizer, this has a soft, wavery edge that could easily pinch you if it sounds like a desirable cup of exotica. CD $10 SKU:7326

U.S. BOMBS - WAR BIRTH one copy. -Label:HELLCAT U.S. BOMBS have been a mainstay in the realm of punk rock ever since their thunderous inception. Shrouded in clouds of controversy, rumor, and legend for the entirety of their existence, U.S. BOMBS have kept the crucial element of danger in the punk scene like no other band since the Sex Pistols. Fronted by pro skateboarding legend, Duane Peters, the U.S. BOMBS have always had high visibility in the worlds of punk rock and skateboarding. With their punk rock be-bop approach to Clash-influenced punk rock, U.S. BOMBS have managed to sustain and continually re-ignite public fervor for traditional punk rock. CD $5 SKU:17036

AUTO GLAMOUR SOUND- A HOSPITAL RECORDS COMP ( Cincinnati/Post Punk )SAALE -Label:SHAKE IT Hospital's visibility outside its home state was limited. Though the Cincinnati-based label had releases charted in Sweden, reviewed in Trouser Press, and distributed by Rough Trade, the amount of exposure it received remained miniscule when compared to that of Akron's Devo and Cleveland's Pere Ubu and Dead Boys. At home, Hospital's loose collective of interlocking bands was met with resistance and bafflement, which probably wasn't the least bit unexpected. If concurrent movements in New York and London were provoking contempt and violence, a conservative Midwest city would certainly be no more accommodating. Auto Glamour Sound, originally a double-7" compilation released in 1982, is expanded here to a 23-track CD, with detailed liner notes from label co-founder Uncle Dave Lewis (who was also in all but two of the bands), and it should be a revelation to fetishists of English post-punk labels like Fetish, Fast, Industrial, Ron Johnson, and even the deconstructionist streaks running through early 4AD (Rema Rema, In Camera) and Factory (Crawling Chaos, Blurt). Like their overseas contemporaries, the Hospital bands disdained the bloated rock and slick pop that mainstream culture was continuing to embrace, and they might've also found punk to be too indebted to traditional rock & roll. They favored ideas over musicianship, unsettling noise over pleasant melodies, and raw spirit over calculated craft. COMP CD $5 SKU:4623

IT’S PSYCHEDELIC BABY-#1 w CD A must-have for fans of Shindig!, Flashback or Ugly Things Magazine!-Label:MERLINS NOSE RECORDS (GERMANY) 130 full-color pages, glossy sleeve, plus a bonus space rock/neo-psychedelia compilation CD! A must-have for fans of Shindig!, Flashback or Ugly Things Magazine! Read what Vernon Joynson has to say about it: The first Country Joe And The Fish album Electric Music for the Mind and Body is one of the very finest examples of psychedelia and when Klemen found it as a 12-year-old among a pile of his dad's records and played it, his life changed forever. His curiosity led him to research deeper and deeper into the whole '60s music scene. He started a blog where he discussed private pressings and over the next few years, with the help of a network of like-minded friends, the blog evolved into the fabulous online magazine that is now It's Psychedelic Baby!. The name is perhaps a little misleading because the magazine's scope is much wider than just psychedelia. Its scope encompasses prog-rock, jazz, blues, folk, punk, metal & avant-garde music. Indeed, Klemen is a huge folk and jazz fan. Above all, the web site has a special focus on obscure and rare music. At the last count this stunning site contained over 500 interviews with a very broad range of artists and people connected with the music business, as well as lots of reviews and articles. He has done so much original research, located so many forgotten artists and even helped some to find record labels. What you have in your hand is the first hard copy version of this magazine! This first edition is primarily dedicated to Texas psychedelia. The state has a very rich and diverse musical tradition, but in the '60s it produced countless tough garage-punk bands and some of the most demented acid-punk records to come out of the U.S. in this era, as well as some seminal hippie-rock bands. Many of these were drawn to the attention of wider audiences in the subsequent years by the pioneering works of David Shutt, whose Journey to Tyme was a brilliant interpretative discographical guide to Texas 1960s punk and psychedelia and by Doug Hanners' equally excellent magazine Not Fade Away, focusing on the Texas music scene in that era. It is largely due to them and other Texas collectors that many obscure Texas recordings of the mid to late '60s found their way onto the many various artists' compilations of '60s punk and psychedelia that emerged in subsequent years. Now, in this new hard copy magazine, Klemen, assisted by other music historians like Kevin Rathert, has traced and interviewed many more artists and the magazine contains features about Powell St. John, Zakary Thaks, The Moving Sidewalks, Lemon Fog, Golden Dawn, Homer, Corpus, and many more. Be sure to read the interview with Michael Jensen (who was a member of the 13th Floor Elevators in the '80s) and shares for the very first time many stories about Roky and different meanings of some of the band's songs. In keeping with the sheer scope of Klemen's antenna, this mag includes many other features, too. He has tracked down the Zambian band Witch and has a fascinating feature (probably the first in hard copy) about the whole '70s Zambian music scene. He's also found Vyto (from First Chips) and there are articles on the Mexican Kaleidoscope, Bodo Molitor, Anonymous, and reviews of new reissues and new psych releases. There is also a fascinating non-music-related feature about "music as medicine." Read on... I promise you will not be disappointed. CD features tracks by: White Hills, Uncle Acid & The Dead Beats, White Hills, Les Indiens, The Oscillation, Get Your Gun, Farflung, Strangers Family Band, Jacco Gardner, Earth Mk.II, Amen Dunes, Aalto, David Greenald.

BEST ARIZONA GARAGE BANDS 19670 1970- VA- w 20 page booklet-Label:HDM RECORDS In addition to music that captures a moment in time, the release features a 20 page booklet filled with the story of each of the groups included here along with period photography, show flyers and more. The Arizona music scene during the sixties can easily be likened to its desert surroundings: The monotony of average and sometimes even good bands writing less than good and even average songs. Then one day you hear a band that knocks you out. Those are the kinds of bands that I had the opportunity to discover and produce that suddenly emerged out of garages and other little holes in walls ? wherever they could find a place to converge and create their music. I now have the honor and the privilege to present to you the bands that I think are Arizona's best garage bands from 1967 to 1970.' -- Hadley Murrell. "At an age when most of us were just listening to music, Hadley Murrell got involved. At 14 he started playing drums with The Carnations, and went on to work in radio, as well promoting shows and other live events. Much of what he made went towards studio time to produce the music heard in this collection. Often garage rock is under produced to its detriment. That's not the case here, Murrell recorded at Phoenix's Audio Records, other clients included Dwayne Eddy, Dyke & The Blazers and Waylon Jennings (among many others). And unlike many garage rock sides ? Hadley took his performers into the studio prepared and ready to lay down tracks as hot as the Arizona desert. In addition to music that captures a moment in time, the release features a 20 page booklet filled with the story of each of the groups included here along with period photography, show flyers and more." HILLOW HAMMET Hammer ( ultimate hard rock obscuritie of the hippie era ) SAALE - Label:HIMALAYA Originally released in 1969, Hillow Hammet's lone LP is one of the ultimate hard rock obscurities of the hippie era, an album so under-the-radar that its players remain unknown. Of course - as the fine folks at Himalaya know - obscurity is not always deserved, and this is one of the finest examples of that; shredding guitars and hyperactive drumming underscore heavy, throaty vocals inspired by Led Zeppelin and Steppenwolf. This D.C. area band really knew their way around a hard rock riff and Himalaya is pleased to present this classic underground hard psych monster again on the format it was meant for, vinyl LP! WITCH- Introduction ( 70s Zambia's premier garage /psych masterpiece) - Label:NOW-AGAIN 2015 repress. Comprehensive overview of Zambia's premier garage-, psych-, prog-, funk-,Afro-rock ensemble Witch, We Intend To Cause Havoc!, is now sold out in its 6LP box set form, so NOW AGAIN is making the first four Witch albums available in archival reissue form. As with the box set, the audio is nigh-perfect -- restored and remastered from the original master tapes. The entirety of Witch's first album, restored and remastered from master tapes, and presented as an archival reissue. Witch's musical arc is contained to a five year span and, in retrospect, is a logical one. The band's first two, self-produced albums - released in unison with the birth of the commercial Zambian recording industry -- are exuberant experiments in garage rock, and are as influenced by the Rolling Stones as they are James Brown. Thus Introduction, their first, is the perfect starting point for anyone interested in delving into the Witch band, or Zamrock in general. LP $24 SKU:14961
