WE THE PEOPLE (CA)/AMERICAN ZOO -- Visions of Time/ Complete Recordings insert/booklet with rare photos and detailed liner notes -Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS (SPAIN) This superb release tells the story of L.A.-based '60s teen band We The People (not to be confused with the better known Florida outfit of the same name). These guys played an amazing blend of garage, folk-rock and psychedelia, resulting in a handful of cool 45s which they recorded for the Reena label in 1967-'68. Two of those 7-inches were released using the moniker The American Zoo. Guitar player Bill Bottrell later became a Grammy award producer, working with Michael Jackson, Madonna and George Harrison among others. Drummer Jason "Jasun" Martz toured with Frank Zappa and recorded with Michael Jackson. Today, he's a well-known avant-garde artist and sculptor. Steve Zaillian, the band's original drummer, became an Academy Award winning director, producer and screenwriter ('Schindlers List' and 'Hannibal' among others). This collection includes all the We The People/American Zoo 45 sides plus two previously unreleased tracks from 1967, taken from the only surviving copy of the band's ultra rare 10-inch demo acetate. Featuring carefully remastered sound, the release also includes an insert/booklet with rare photos and detailed liner notes by Gray Newell (Shindig!, Ugly Things). LP $28 SKU:16513

ZAPPA AND CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, FRANK- TRIPLE LP, 180 gram with photos and liners. Providence College, Rhode Island, April 26th 1975 -Label:KEYHOLE This edition is pressed on 180-gram vinyl, features remastered sound, and includes an insert with background notes and photos. Childhood friends and fellow rock visionaries Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart put aside their differences to tour the US together in the spring of 1975 -- Beefheart's only tour with The Mothers of Invention. The resulting shows found them both in superb form, as evidenced by this legendary 1975 set, preserved in superb fidelity. LP $42 SKU:16499

EXPLOSIVES - Come Clean PLUS 3 -Label:MUNSTER Austin's The Explosives (who would go on to be Roky Erickson's backing band) lived up to their name in the late '70s and early '80s, packing more power than their so-called punk rock peers. That's because they were not actually punk rockers themselves. Like Elvis Costello (saddled with the same inappropriate tag at the time), they played something that had been out of fashion for a while: music of rhythm with a jangly melody; something called "rock and roll." This is a facsimile reissue of their blasting 1979 debut. 45 RPM $10 SKU:16493

BROWNE & DAVID LINDLEY, JACKSON- Live at the Main Point, 15th August 1973 w liners and rare photos - Label:ECHOES (UK) When Jackson Browne released his debut self-titled album in January of 1972, his acutely profound and disarming sincerity won him immediate critical acclaim. The 23-year-old singer/songwriter followed the album with his first promotional tour, stopping on August 15, 1973, at Philadelphia's Main Point. This appearance, alongside David Lindley, was his second headline performance at the coffee house; his first appearance there was in November 1971, opening for Bonnie Raitt, with subsequent shows alongside Chris Smither and Mike d'Abo in 1972. Echoes is delighted to present the entire WBCN-FM radio broadcast of this exquisite 1973 performance from two of America's finest songwriters and instrumentalists. Digitally remastered with detailed liner notes and photos. CD $17 SKU:16525

This LP presents fourteen early recordings including the 1966 Audio House session, both their 1966/67 singles A´s & B´s for Fairyland Records and alternative versions on side one. Side two features the band‘s 1968 Fairyland summer sessions, which forged a complex psychedelic sound that culminated in a record deal with Roulette Records. This release covers the band’s local years from 1966 – 69 and includes material never before released or unavailable on vinyl for years.LP comes with an in-depth insert with a cache of photos and trivia tracing the genesis of a band that started as an instrumental group in 1963 and ended after their garage days as a now much respected psychedelic band. CALLAHAN, EDDIE - False Ego ( rare 1976 California private press gem w. heavy mini-LP style cover, Japanese woven inner sleeves, and a double-sided insert ) Ltd ed -Label:TIME LAG high quality reissue of very rare 1976 California private press gem, originally issued on the Ocean label. “First ever reissue, deluxe and legit, of this quite rare 1976 southern California private press gem. It's a strange, fantastical, and totally distinct album that will have you sucked in almost instantly. This one is extremely hard to pin down - think something like a loner powerpop rock opus, heavy on the psychedelic production values, studio dreamer vibes, and timeless hooks. The songs are unusual but infectious, the production is breezy and expansive but not polished, and the vocals are constantly morphing yet always effective. In fact, the hazy chameleon-like personality here might be one of the best things going for the album, as not only does Eddie seem to be channeling a handful of different vocalists, but the whole mood and sound shifts around unexpectedly as well. The questioning, self-reflective lyrics add yet another layer of mystique to the trip. Musically the mellowest points hover around gorgeous, airy, rural-tinged, floating psychedelia with beautifully layered acoustic & electric guitars, tinkling keys, and lush mellotron. When things pick up they're truly rocking, with tight punchy rhythms and Eddie firing off big chunky guitar riffs like he's playing to the packed stadium behind his third eye. All the studio tricks at hand are put to full use with sweet Leslie guitar effects, special tones, backwards solos, elaborate multi-tracked sound fields, and some of the most wonderfully bent synthesizer soloing ever laid to tape. The perfectly strange and beautiful cover art seals the deal. False Egos is mastered from the artist's well preserved and great sounding master tapes. LP $31 SKU:16512

IT’S PSYCHEDELIC BABY-#1 w CD A must-have for fans of Shindig!, Flashback or Ugly Things Magazine!-Label:MERLINS NOSE RECORDS (GERMANY) 130 full-color pages, glossy sleeve, plus a bonus space rock/neo-psychedelia compilation CD! A must-have for fans of Shindig!, Flashback or Ugly Things Magazine! Read what Vernon Joynson has to say about it: The first Country Joe And The Fish album Electric Music for the Mind and Body is one of the very finest examples of psychedelia and when Klemen found it as a 12-year-old among a pile of his dad's records and played it, his life changed forever. His curiosity led him to research deeper and deeper into the whole '60s music scene. He started a blog where he discussed private pressings and over the next few years, with the help of a network of like-minded friends, the blog evolved into the fabulous online magazine that is now It's Psychedelic Baby!. The name is perhaps a little misleading because the magazine's scope is much wider than just psychedelia. Its scope encompasses prog-rock, jazz, blues, folk, punk, metal & avant-garde music. Indeed, Klemen is a huge folk and jazz fan. Above all, the web site has a special focus on obscure and rare music. At the last count this stunning site contained over 500 interviews with a very broad range of artists and people connected with the music business, as well as lots of reviews and articles. He has done so much original research, located so many forgotten artists and even helped some to find record labels. What you have in your hand is the first hard copy version of this magazine! This first edition is primarily dedicated to Texas psychedelia. The state has a very rich and diverse musical tradition, but in the '60s it produced countless tough garage-punk bands and some of the most demented acid-punk records to come out of the U.S. in this era, as well as some seminal hippie-rock bands. Many of these were drawn to the attention of wider audiences in the subsequent years by the pioneering works of David Shutt, whose Journey to Tyme was a brilliant interpretative discographical guide to Texas 1960s punk and psychedelia and by Doug Hanners' equally excellent magazine Not Fade Away, focusing on the Texas music scene in that era. It is largely due to them and other Texas collectors that many obscure Texas recordings of the mid to late '60s found their way onto the many various artists' compilations of '60s punk and psychedelia that emerged in subsequent years. Now, in this new hard copy magazine, Klemen, assisted by other music historians like Kevin Rathert, has traced and interviewed many more artists and the magazine contains features about Powell St. John, Zakary Thaks, The Moving Sidewalks, Lemon Fog, Golden Dawn, Homer, Corpus, and many more. Be sure to read the interview with Michael Jensen (who was a member of the 13th Floor Elevators in the '80s) and shares for the very first time many stories about Roky and different meanings of some of the band's songs. In keeping with the sheer scope of Klemen's antenna, this mag includes many other features, too. He has tracked down the Zambian band Witch and has a fascinating feature (probably the first in hard copy) about the whole '70s Zambian music scene. He's also found Vyto (from First Chips) and there are articles on the Mexican Kaleidoscope, Bodo Molitor, Anonymous, and reviews of new reissues and new psych releases. There is also a fascinating non-music-related feature about "music as medicine." Read on... I promise you will not be disappointed. CD features tracks by: White Hills, Uncle Acid & The Dead Beats, White Hills, Les Indiens, The Oscillation, Get Your Gun, Farflung, Strangers Family Band, Jacco Gardner, Earth Mk.II, Amen Dunes, Aalto, David Greenald.

DESTROY ALL MONSTERS - Hot Box 1974-1994 2CD w booklet, photos, and unseen artwork - Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) Includes a generously-illustrated booklet featuring photos and artwork never seen before. All tracks have been remastered from recently discovered tapes. Destroy All Monsters are known by some for their role as a bastion of resistance of Detroit's rock; for being, during their second period, the band in which Ron Asheton would reappear. For others, they are a pivotal reference point in the copious but relatively unknown avant-garde underground from the same city, after Thurston Moore and Byron Coley dug up their first recordings in 1996 and the original line-up reunited. Destroy All Monsters comprises two complementary and interconnected poles throughout the saga of the Motor City's music scene, from the University of Michigan's Cooperative Studio for Electronic Music to The Stooges, through to the White Panther Party. In its two incarnations, the experimental -- led by Cary Loren, Jim Shaw and Mike Kelley -- and the high energy one -- with Asheton and Michael Davis from MC5, both featuring the phantasmagorical Niagara in the role of doped-up priestess, Destroy All Monsters are the object of one of the most devotional cults of America's cultural underground, as testified by their abundant artistic and record production. Hot Box 1974-1994 is the first anthology to bring together the best outcome of those two hemispheres, including much unreleased material. CD $24 SKU:16096

In just under five years, the Pleasure Seekers toured extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, and the Far East, as a headliner, as well as being support for acts like the Yardbirds, Eric Burdon and the Animals, Joe Cocker, Alice Cooper, Procol Harem, Badfinger, MC5, Bob Seger, Iggy Stooge, and many others. The historic recordings (many previously unreleased by the Quatro sisters) capture the beginning of their rock-n-roll revolution. The Pleasure Seekers were a forerunner, changing the myth of female musicians. Rockin it raw, with edge and attitude, they took over the garage, and unleashed their “Detroit Rock City” music on an unsuspecting world, starting a revolution for women to rock their music hard. To this day, these multi talented sisters are known as the teenagers who dared to go where women had not gone before, against all odds, stomping their way into a male-dominated heavy rock scene. TERRY & THE PIRATES- Comanche Boots ( 70s rare tracks and demos ) - Label:ACADIA Probably only remembered today as one of the many bands graced by the guitarwork of John Cipollina following his departure from Quicksilver Messenger Service, and as a footnote in the career of Nicky Hopkins, Terry and the Pirates deserve much greater recognition. Featured on “Comanche Boots" are a few of the last studio recordings of Terry & The Pirates in existence, including never before released tracks, rare demos, rehearsals and exciting live performances, spanning 1973-1980. This disc is also in many ways a celebration of 35 years of rocking with Terry & The Pirates. The standout cut, to me, is ‘All In Your Mind,’ a dreamy song about mental stress. ‘Comanche Boots’ is a nice thumping tune with a Native American vibe powered by harmonics (guitar); ‘Cuckoo’ is a nice tight rocker; ‘Truer Than Blue’ (with Nicky Hopkins) and ‘The Light Thru The Willows’ are satisfying classic, mid-tempo Terry Dolan tunes. Also contains a live version of ‘Jungle Love’, later to become a huge hit for the Steve Miller Band. CD $6 SKU:14057

TERRY & THE PIRATES- Too Close For Comfort ( 70s ) -Label:ACADIA Twenty nine years after the release of the original Too Close For Comfort comes the third issue of this priceless and timeless music from San Francisco's own Terry & The Pirates.” Another view: “Probably only remembered today as one of the many bands graced by the guitarwork of John Cipollina following his departure from Quicksilver Messenger Service, and as a footnote in the career of Nicky Hopkins, Terry and the Pirates deserve much greater recognition. Although Cipollina’s feral guitar is undoubtedly essential to their charms, the work of Terry Dolan himself should not be underestimated. His voice is an acquired taste, a strange mixture of David Crosby and Captain Beefheart, but as such, it’s impressively distinctive. Meanwhile, his songwriting mines that same rich vein of American folk which yielded ‘Pride Of Man’ (so memorably covered by Quicksilver). The best songs on this collection of various live and studio recordings are certainly Dolan’s own. Whilst a version of Jackie Wilson’s ‘Higher & Higher’ might be entertainingly audacious, covers of ‘Mystery Train’ and ‘Don’t Do It’ aren’t going to make anybody forget those by The Band, despite some impressive sparring between Cipollina and second guitarist Greg Douglass on the latter. In this context, tracks like ‘Inside and Out’ and ‘Inlaws and Outlaws’ distinguish themselves as fine examples of original Californian rock n’ roll. Even if none of this is especially ground-breaking or epoch-defining music, it’s played with spirit and any fans of West Coast music who might have easily overlooked it should be sure to rectify their mistake. The label hit paydirt in early 1966 when it scored a coast-to-coast hit with The Knickerbockers outstandingly energetic rave up 'Lies.' This riff on The Beatles sound could actually have been The Beatles. Its inclusion on Lenny Kaye's Nuggets set 'Lies' in stone as a all-time classic. Allergic To Flowers: Garage Beat & Popsike celebrates this and the other nuggets that Challenge issued from 1965 to 1968. There's The Brogues paint-peeling punk rocker 'Don t Shoot Me Down' -- the band featured future members of San Francisco legends Quicksilver Messenger Service. Also heard are more irresistible, rockin' and melodic high-energy gems by The Knickerbockers, the absolutely incredible psychedelic punk of Florida band We The People, the tough-as-nails Lindy Blaskey and the Lavells and the superb psychedelic harmonies of Fenwyck's 'Mindrocker.' FITZGERALD, PATRIK-Safety Pin Stuck in My Heart ( 70s punk rarity )-Label:MUNSTER RECORDS (SPAIN) RSD Black Friday release. Patrik Fitzgerald was one of the oddities that punk rock threw up in 1977. A lone singer with an acoustic guitar, regaling punk audiences with lyrical songs and interspersing them with chats, stories and poems. Is this what people died in the Punk Wars for? The answer is an emphatic yes. There's no better example of the punk DIY attitude than the lone, slight figure of Patrik Fitzgerald making it happen and expressing himself on stage, singing songs of alienation, observation and imagined situations and often braving hostile receptions to communicate with an audience. While bands had the safety net of each other and the bombast of volume and wattage, he stood alone. Patrik had realism, pathos and incisive, sometimes uncomfortable, lyrics. Those early songs like "Safety Pin in My Heart" and "All Sewn Up" have amazingly stood the test of time and sound as relevant today as then. Patrik Fitzgerald was the "Punk Poet." He is the great forgotten songwriter from the Class of '77. Patrik Fitzgerald never became a household name or punk icon like Rotten, Strummer or Weller, but to his loyal followers he is just as important and as inspirational. Same goes for Mark Perry, Vic Godard and Robert Lloyd. Like them, he is one of punk's idiosyncratic, singular voices: artistically successful, but too uncompromising for mainstream and commercial rewards. Fitzgerald's sincere attitude and eccentric appearance -- commonly, a badge-cluttered blazer, red drainpipe trousers and sandals -- set him squarely apart from his new wave brethren. He was always called a poet rather than a singer, as it was all about the words. Words full of tragedy, comedy, cynicism, realism, bitterness, pathos and just occasionally, hope. Tagged the "new Dylan" in '77, he was maybe more the new Leonard Cohen with a touch of social realism, although Bowie was his hero. "The recordings remain true to me, even when I don't. This is what they are; the voice of a small, insecure, somewhat lost person, living in a small, insecure, somewhat lost country." LP $28 SKU:16363

IL BALLETTO DI BRONZO - Sirio 2222 ( ltd ed of 1000, color insert ) - Label:LION Raw-edged heavy rock, fronted by Lino Ajello's powerful electric guitars, channeling the dark, jagged energy of Jimmy Page, Adrian Gurvitz, and Jeff Beck. Il Balletto di Bronzo absorbed their influences (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds), but moved from there into an inspired, hard-edged musical space; the band's overwhelming power and great melodies make them irresistible. ‘Un posto’ and ‘Neve Calda’ are centered around simple but effective guitar riffs. ‘Eh eh ah ah’ starts like a nice mellow ballad, but gets into a hard blues rock groove. On side two, there's the seven-minute mammoth heavy grind of ‘Incantesimo’ and the colossal ‘Missione Sirio 2222,’ almost ten minutes of droning acid rock with whirling guitars and heavy pounding drums, sandwiched between an acoustic intro and outro. No wonder Nurse With Wound cited Il Balletto di Bronzo as an influence. LP $22 SKU:16074

JULY- Second of July ( 1968 Stunning demos by one of the most important psychedelic bands to ever exist ) - Label:ACME By this time, anyone with an interest in psychedelia that stretches beyond the Beatles or maybe Strawberry Alarm Clock (at a pinch), knows who July is. Well, at least they know that a band called July put out a super rare album that is considered by many to be one of the pinnacles of the psychedelic era. There's no way to overstate the excellence of the album, with its eerie sound, Indian-influenced chord sequences, studio trickery (tape loops/phasing), and heavily reverb-laden vocals. But that’s not the story we’re here to tell. Even before that quintessential psychedelic album was made, band leader Tom Newman was experimenting with home recording equipment. In 1967, he installed basic recording facilities in the bedroom of his flat in an old Victorian house in Ealing. There, he and guitarist Peter Cook tried out ideas, coming up with many of the standout songs from the July album. The demos they recorded display the kind of confidence that Newman feels was lacking in the album proper (yes, the ultra- famous psychedelic classic album!) that they recorded in 1968. Let’s go back to the near-beginning of it all, to a flat in a Victorian house in Ealing, and listen in on demos recorded with DIY alacrity by a studio whiz, tracks which will change the face of psychedelia, eventually, after decades of obscurity. •Stunning demos by one of the most important psychedelic bands to ever exist LP $29 SKU:16427

PLEASE - 1968/ 69 180 gram 68 UK psych,w booklet ,liners & unrel demo -Label:ACME GRAMOPHONE UK Superb and historic collection of 1968-1969 UK psych—excellent somber, moody, minor key demo material taken from original master tapes and restored acetates; trying to follow the chronology of Peter Dunton’s projects is difficult—these tracks were recorded soon after the demise of Neon Pearl (a band documented by our own Acme/Lion CD release), around the time the other original members of Please were recording the Bulldog Breed album for Deram (another band documented by an Acme/Lion CD release), and just after Dunton had left Gun to rejoin forces with bass player Bernie Jinks, his co-leader in phase one of Please for the band that would eventually emerge as T2; booklet contains lyrics and notes on the band. This disc features the original killer demo version of 'No More white Horses' (a song that T2 would take into another dimension), as well as 'Folder Man,' written by Peter Dunton, which has been utilized by Gnarls Barkley on "The Odd Couple." 180 gram vinyl, shrink wrapped. PTARMIGAN- ST ( 70s folk psych ltd ed of 500 , insert lyrics and liners ) -Label:LION First official vinyl reissue since it's debut in 1974 . Massive fold-out insert which includes lyrics, liner notes from the band, and a multitude of photos and historical mementos. Rated by many as the best "folk/progressive" and/or "folk/psych" album ever made . From the master tapes Limited edition of 500 copies Huge insert comes with lyrics, liner notes from the band, and more.
Ptarmigan recorded the basic tracks for what would eventually become their only album in 1972. It then took the band’s producer and manager, renowned flautist Paul Horn, more than a year to find a label willing to release such unusual music. Finally, in 1974, Columbia Records released Ptarmigan’s album to critical acclaim, and minimal sales. The music of Ptarmigan is deep and authentic and intimate; it's reflective sounds are well suited to meditating on a landscape, an emotion, a bottle of wine, or maybe while staring at a flickering candle. Sometimes it is free-flowing and jazz-oriented; at other times it has the mystical feel of a shamanistic ceremony, fueled by Eastern-tinged harmonies. But in the end, this album is about the sea: Ptarmigan was, after all, from Vancouver Island, and the musicians were well-versed in the contradictory moods of the surrounding ocean. Hypnotic, mystical, largely instrumental tracks, all based on a complex interplay of recorder, hand drums and acoustic guitar—one of those hidden gems that make life better when you discover them all these years later. Rated by many as the best "folk/progressive" and/or "folk/psych" album ever made. As one contemporary review said, this is "music from musicians, for musicians, late-at-night, last joint music." SHAG- 1969 Acid psych with insert with liner notes and photos -Label:OUT-SIDER SHAG was born from the ashes of garage band The Shags (of “Stop and Listen” fame). In the late 60s, they moved from Milwaukee to California, where they played at all the major venues and ballrooms, supporting famous bands like Jefferson Airplane and The Who. In 1969, the band recorded a demo at Pacific High Recordings in San Francisco, at the same time as the Grateful Dead were recording their classic “Working Man’s Dead” album there. The demo was in fact a fully finished album of bombastic psychedelia, acid-rock and proto-prog with loud fuzz-wah guitars, long tracks, crazy percussion and killer flute. Here’s the first ever vinyl reissue of these lost recordings. Master tape sound, insert with liner notes and photos LP $27 SKU:16281

UNRELATED SEGMENTS - The Story Of My Life – Complete Recordings DBL LP insert with photos and liner notes. -Label:GUERSSEN RECORDS (SPAIN) Sixties punk, garage, moody sounds and proto-hard-rock of the highest order! Complete recordings (1966-1975) of this legendary band from Michigan, including their three killer 45s plus unreleased recordings and alternate takes. Master tape sound, insert with photos and liner notes. The Unrelated Segments created some of the most celebrated garage-punk anthems of all time. Tracks like “Cry, Cry, Cry” with its teenage-angst vocals and out of control fuzztone guitar break, “The Story Of My Life” with that bizarre and ultra-punk bass line or the moody-punker “It’s gonna rain” have been included on countless garage comps (Back From The Grave, Acid Dreams, Nuggets, etc) and have been covered by numerous bands who worship them as 60s punk Gods. Sadly, the band never got the chance to record a full album. After three outstanding 45s, they recorded a projected fourth single that never saw the light of day, just when the band had changed its name to U.S and had started playing in a heavier vein, similar to early MC5. Soon after, the band split up and some of their members formed psych-rock band Lost Nation. On this collection, along with their official 45s and alternate takes / rehearsals, you’ll find the unreleased 45 from 1969 plus some demos recorded by an unnamed post-Unrelated Segments / Lost Nation band in 1972. An amazing find which shows the band playing pure Detroit high-energy hard rock! “The Unrelated Segments emerged from the same downriver suburbs that had produced the MC5, and their suburban mutation was almost as unique. Singer Ron Stults had an unforgettable style somewhere between punk snarl and Brit erudition and the songs he wrote with lead guitarist Rory Mack were catchy and substantial” – Ben Edmonds (Creeem, Rolling Stone, Mojo LP $32 SKU:16282
